IB Maths Tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour

Most families looking for an IB maths tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour are asking one question underneath all the others: does anyone actually know this syllabus, or will we be paying for general maths with IB vocabulary sprinkled on top? The honest answer is that the number of people who have taught Analysis and Approaches HL to completion is small, and almost none of them live within a short drive of Ras Al Khor. IB Gram matches them online instead, one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched by route and level: AA or AI, HL or SL, confirmed before the first lesson
  • Lessons are live online one-to-one; IB Gram makes no UAE home visits
  • Exploration support is feedback on the student's own draft, never writing it
  • One free trial lesson per student before any payment or card details

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Creek Harbour

Does anyone near Dubai Creek Harbour actually know this syllabus?

That is the real question, so here is the real answer. IB Mathematics is not one subject. It is four courses: Analysis and Approaches at Higher and Standard Level, and Applications and Interpretation at Higher and Standard Level. They have different content, different calculator rules, different paper structures, and a different kind of Exploration. A tutor who has taught A Level Mathematics for fifteen years and has never marked an IB Exploration against criterion E is a strong mathematician and a weak match. A parent in Dubai Creek Harbour cannot tell the difference from an advertisement, which is why the question gets asked in the first place.

The second part of the answer is about geography. Dubai Creek Harbour has no private school inside its boundary, so the IB students living there attend schools scattered from Dubai Festival City across to Sobha Hartland, Nad Al Sheba and Al Jaddaf. Within a practical driving radius of Ras Al Khor the pool of tutors who have genuinely taught Analysis and Approaches HL to completion is thin. Not absent, but thin enough that a family searching on proximity will usually be offered somebody adjacent rather than somebody exact. Removing travel from the equation is what widens that pool, and it is the only reason IB Gram's delivery model looks the way it does.

So tuition for UAE families is one-to-one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Dubai Creek Harbour or anywhere else in the UAE; home visiting exists only in our India service. Stated plainly rather than buried, because a family deciding between a visiting tutor and an online specialist deserves to know which one they are reading about. The comparison in the cost section below sets out what the visiting premium buys and what it costs in choice.

What a route-correct match looks like in practice is narrow and checkable. Before the first lesson we confirm whether your child sits Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, which Exploration stage they are at, and what their most recent internal assessment mark was out of what. Those four facts determine the work. A Standard Level Applications student struggling with statistical inference needs almost nothing in common with a Higher Level Analysis student stuck on the Maclaurin series, and a tutor who treats them the same is not a specialist.

The third thing worth saying before the detail starts: the Exploration is 20% of the grade in every one of the four courses, and it is the component where tutoring help is most useful and most easily misused. A tutor may read a draft, mark it against the published criteria, explain what criterion D actually rewards, and model reflection on a different investigation. A tutor may not write it, restructure it to a standard, or supply the mathematics. The boundary is not a formality; breaching it is a malpractice matter for the candidate, not for the tutor.

Everything below is specific: the AA against AI decision with its university consequences, the paper weightings and durations at both levels, the Exploration criteria by letter with their mark allocations, where marks actually go missing, what the Dubai market charges, and the schools around Creek Harbour whose timetables we schedule around.

At a glance

  • Four courses, not one: AA HL, AA SL, AI HL, AI SL, each assessed differently
  • The Exploration is 20% of the grade on all four courses
  • Paper 3 exists at Higher Level only and carries 20% of the HL grade
  • Creek Harbour has no school inside it; IB pupils commute to at least three clusters
  • Lessons are online one-to-one; IB Gram does not visit UAE addresses
  • Market rate for an IB specialist tutor in Dubai: roughly AED 200-450 per hour
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Creek Harbour families meet IB mathematics at three points, and the useful tutoring looks different at each. These are the programmes we cover and what the maths actually demands in each one.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Mathematics

Two years, one of four course and level combinations, assessed by written papers plus a mathematical Exploration worth 20%. Standard Level sits two papers of ninety minutes each; Higher Level sits two papers of two hours plus a third paper of one hour. Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is taken without technology; Applications and Interpretation permits a graphic display calculator throughout.

UAE schools sit the main May session, and that is the one Creek Harbour families plan around. No specific IB session or results date is published on this page, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date on a landing page is worse than no date. Confirm every deadline with your school's IB coordinator, who holds the internal timetable for Exploration drafts as well as the external one.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Mathematics

Criterion-referenced assessment across knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. There are no external papers in most MYP years, so the grade comes from internal tasks. The investigating-patterns criterion is the one that prepares a student for the Exploration, and it is the one most often taught lightly.

Several schools serving Creek Harbour run MYP to Year 11 and then move into the Diploma, which means a student arrives in Year 12 having never sat a timed written maths paper. That transition is the single most common reason a Creek Harbour family contacts us in the autumn term of Year 12, and it is a technique problem more than a content problem.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The IGCSE route into Diploma maths

Many Creek Harbour pupils sit Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 or Pearson 4MA1 at sixteen and then enter the Diploma. Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 is the strongest bridge into Analysis and Approaches, because it introduces differentiation, integration and binomial expansion a year early.

A student entering Analysis and Approaches HL from 0580 Extended alone, without 0606, usually has a real gap in algebraic fluency and in function manipulation. It is closable in a term if it is identified in Year 11 rather than in Year 12. Where a family is choosing options now, this is the decision with the longest shadow.

What universities do with the maths grade

Engineering, mathematics, physics, economics and computer science courses commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, and some will not accept Applications and Interpretation as a substitute. Courses in the social sciences, business and design are frequently satisfied by Applications at either level.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency, no IB points threshold is published on this page, because no figure could be read on the Ministry's own site and an unsourced number would be a liability on every page carrying it. Check your own case with the Ministry or the emirate attestation authority. Nothing here implies tutoring is needed for equivalency or admission.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Within IB Mathematics the requests from Creek Harbour families cluster around the same topics, and they cluster for structural reasons rather than random ones. These are the ones we are asked for most, with what each actually demands.

Analysis and Approaches HL — calculus

Higher Level

Differentiation and integration techniques, implicit differentiation, related rates, volumes of revolution, differential equations and the Maclaurin series. This is where the HL grade is decided and where Paper 3 most often draws its extended investigation. Students lose marks on notation and on unjustified steps rather than on the method itself.

Analysis and Approaches HL — proof and complex numbers

Higher Level

Proof by induction, proof by contradiction, counterexamples, and complex numbers in Cartesian, modulus-argument and exponential form including De Moivre's theorem. Induction is a technique question: the structure earns marks, so a student who writes the inductive step as a template scores above one who improvises it.

Analysis and Approaches SL — functions and algebra

Standard Level

Function notation, composite and inverse functions, transformations of graphs, quadratics, exponentials and logarithms, and sequences and series. Paper 1 is sat without technology, so algebraic fluency is not optional. Most lost marks here are sign errors inside a correct method.

Applications and Interpretation HL — statistics and probability

Higher Level

Sampling, correlation and regression, probability distributions, hypothesis testing including chi-squared and t-tests, and the interpretation that follows the calculation. The discriminator is not the test statistic; it is stating the conclusion in context with reference to the significance level.

Applications and Interpretation SL — modelling

Standard Level

Linear, quadratic, exponential and trigonometric models, piecewise functions, and the choice of model to fit a dataset. Technology is permitted throughout, which moves the marks from computation to justification: why this model, what the parameters mean, where it stops being valid.

Trigonometry and geometry, both routes

HL and SL

Radian measure, identities, equations, the ambiguous case of the sine rule, and in Applications the use of Voronoi diagrams and three-dimensional geometry. The reliable failure is a calculator left in degrees for a radian question, which costs a correct method its answer mark.

Vectors

AA HL and AI HL

Vector equations of lines and planes, scalar and vector products, intersections and angles between lines and planes, and distance problems. Students who can sketch the configuration before computing outperform those who go straight to the algebra, because most errors here are geometric misreadings.

The mathematical Exploration

All four courses · 20% of the grade

An individual written investigation, assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. The commonest failure is a topic too large to carry genuine personal engagement, chosen late. Topic choice is where tutoring earns the most and is most clearly legitimate.

Paper 3 technique, Higher Level only

Higher Level

Two extended problem-solving questions over one hour, worth 20% of the HL grade, requiring a student to follow an unfamiliar investigation through guided stages. It cannot be revised by topic. It is practised by doing past Paper 3 questions and learning to read the scaffolding.

Calculator technique and the GDC

HL and SL, both routes

Solving numerically, finding intersections, statistical functions, distributions and regression on the graphic display calculator. On Applications papers and on AA Paper 2 this is marked skill, not a convenience, and a student who navigates menus slowly loses marks to the clock rather than to the mathematics.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Creek Harbour families use IB maths tuition. All are delivered online one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the right one depends mostly on where the student sits in the two-year cycle.

Weekly route-matched sessions

One or two hours a week with a tutor matched to the exact course and level, planned against the school's own scheme of work. This is the format for a student who is coping but inconsistent, and it is the one that leaves the Exploration enough runway to be done properly rather than in a panic.

  • Same weekly slot, chosen for the worst normal weekday
  • Planned against the school's teaching order, not a generic syllabus sequence
  • A written note after each session naming what to practise
  • Exploration milestones built into the term, not bolted on at the end

Paper-technique and Paper 3 work

Short focused blocks for students whose topic knowledge is adequate and whose paper marks are not. At Higher Level this includes Paper 3 specifically, because an extended guided investigation cannot be revised by topic and has to be practised as a format.

  • Minute-per-mark timing on real paper extracts
  • Past Paper 3 questions read for their scaffolding before being attempted
  • Calculator navigation drilled until it stops costing time
  • One previously answered question rewritten to full-mark standard

Exploration coaching, inside the honesty line

Topic selection, scope control, criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft, and reflection taught by modelling it on a different investigation. The tutor never writes, restructures to a standard, or supplies the mathematics. We keep a note of whose work was in front of us at each session.

  • Topic narrowed until personal engagement is genuinely possible
  • Draft marked against the published criteria, criterion by criterion
  • Reflection and communication modelled on unrelated material
  • Referencing taught properly, which prevents most honesty cases

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Creek Harbour

01

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: which one is your child on?

An IB maths tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour is useless until this is settled, and a surprising number of families do not know. The two routes diverge in content and in purpose. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic, proof-oriented course: function manipulation, calculus technique, induction, complex numbers at Higher Level. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics course: regression, hypothesis testing, Voronoi diagrams, financial mathematics, and the interpretation that follows a calculation made with technology.

The calculator rule is the quickest way to tell them apart in practice. Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is sat without technology, which means algebraic fluency is a scored skill rather than a convenience. Applications and Interpretation permits a graphic display calculator in both papers, which moves the marks away from computation and towards justification: why this model, what do the parameters mean, where does the model stop being valid. A student who is strong at arithmetic and weak at explanation often scores better on AA than on AI, which is the opposite of what families assume.

The consequence that matters most is university entry. Engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science and many economics courses commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, and a number of them will not accept Applications as an equivalent. Social science, business, design and health-related courses are frequently satisfied by Applications at either level. A Creek Harbour student in Year 11 choosing between the two is making a decision about which degrees remain open, and the school's own university guidance counsellor is the right person to confirm a specific course requirement.

The table below sets the two routes against each other on the things that change the tutoring, rather than on the things that make a nice brochure.

02

The papers, the durations and the weightings at both levels

Here is the assessment structure a Creek Harbour parent should be able to recite, because every planning decision follows from it. At Standard Level there are two written papers of ninety minutes each, carrying forty per cent of the grade apiece, plus the Exploration at twenty per cent. At Higher Level there are two papers of two hours each at thirty per cent apiece, a third paper of one hour at twenty per cent, and the Exploration at twenty per cent. That is the whole of it, and it is published by the IB.

Two things fall out immediately. First, the Exploration is one fifth of the grade in every version of the course, and it is the only component a student controls entirely. A Standard Level student who leaves the Exploration to the last fortnight has gambled twenty per cent of their grade on a bad week. Second, Higher Level Paper 3 is also twenty per cent, and it is the component least amenable to topic revision, because it presents an unfamiliar extended investigation in guided stages. Those two components together are forty per cent of an HL grade and neither is improved by re-reading notes.

The planning consequence for a Creek Harbour family is a sequencing one. The Exploration work belongs in the quieter part of the two-year cycle, not in the term where mock papers and other subjects' internal assessments are due. Paper 3 practice belongs in the final stretch, after the content is substantially complete, because it draws on all of it. A tutoring plan that treats the whole two years as undifferentiated weekly maths misses both of these.

We do not publish IB session or results dates on this page. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, and an unverified exam date on a landing page is a date a family might act on. UAE schools sit the main May session; for every deadline that matters, including Exploration draft deadlines, your school's IB coordinator holds the authoritative internal calendar.

03

The Exploration, criterion by criterion

Nobody in this market publishes the Exploration criteria with their mark allocations, which is strange, because they are the specification for twenty per cent of the grade and they are the single most actionable thing a family can read. There are five criteria. Presentation carries four marks. Mathematical communication carries four. Personal engagement carries three. Reflection carries three. Use of mathematics carries six, and it is the largest single block. Twenty marks in total.

Read that allocation again and a pattern appears. Use of mathematics is the biggest criterion, but presentation and mathematical communication together carry eight marks, more than any single criterion, and they are awarded for structure, notation, consistent use of symbols, defined variables and a coherent line of reasoning. Those are marks a competent student loses by carelessness rather than by ignorance. Reflection, at three marks, is the criterion most often left as a closing paragraph when it should be present throughout the investigation, commenting on choices as they are made.

Personal engagement, also three marks, is where topic choice decides the outcome before any mathematics is written. A topic that is genuinely the student's own produces engagement naturally; a topic chosen from a list of safe ideas produces a document that reads like a textbook extract. This is why topic coaching is the highest-value legitimate help a tutor can give on the Exploration, and why it should happen early rather than after a first draft exists.

The boundary on all of this is firm. A tutor reads the student's draft and marks it against these criteria. A tutor explains what a criterion rewards. A tutor models reflection on an unrelated investigation. A tutor does not write the Exploration, does not restructure it to a standard, and does not supply the mathematics. There are providers in this market selling completed Internal Assessments outright. That is a malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the candidate.

Where IB maths marks actually go missing

  • Unjustified steps on AA Paper 1 cost method marks on questions the student understood
  • Calculator mode and navigation speed are scored skills, not conveniences
  • Applications conclusions need context and a significance reference, not just a number
  • Diagnose with one timed paper marked to the scheme before planning any teaching

Ask a Creek Harbour parent why their child's maths grade dropped and the answer is usually that the topics got harder. Ask the mark scheme and the answer is often different. A large share of lost marks on IB maths papers are not knowledge failures. They are notation failures, timing failures, calculator-mode failures and failures to claim method marks that were already earned.

The clearest example is the unjustified step. A student arrives at a correct answer in three lines where the mark scheme expects five, and loses two method marks on a question they fully understood. This is epidemic on Analysis and Approaches Paper 1, where no technology is available and the working is the entire evidence of reasoning. The fix is mechanical and fast: write the line you would be tempted to do in your head. It takes a fortnight of enforced practice and it is worth more than a month of new content.

The second is the calculator left in degrees for a radian question, or a graphic display calculator the student can use but not navigate quickly. On Paper 2 and on Applications papers, calculator fluency is assessed, and a student who takes ninety seconds to find a regression function has lost the question to the clock rather than to the mathematics. The third, specific to Applications, is the conclusion stated as a number instead of as a statement in context with reference to the significance level. The statistics were right; the answer mark went elsewhere.

This is why a diagnostic paper comes before any teaching plan. We ask the student to sit a timed paper on their exact course and level, mark it against the published scheme question by question, and let the marking choose the topic list. A list built that way shortens week by week. A list built from the syllabus contents page never does.

What an IB maths tutor costs around Dubai Creek Harbour

Take the cheapest end first, because it is the end most families start at and the one with the widest quality spread. Budget online tutoring in Dubai is advertised from AED 45 to AED 65 by EdFlik and from AED 33 to AED 52 by Tutopiya, which usually means a university student teaching a subject they sat recently. For general homework support in a Standard Level course that can work. For Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, or for Exploration feedback against five published criteria, it generally does not, and the reason is specificity rather than ability.

A qualified subject tutor working online in Dubai is quoted at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. IB specialist rates run from around AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 or more. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650. Those are each provider's own published figures, read in October 2026, and they are the market, not IB Gram's price list.

The in-home comparison is where Creek Harbour geography becomes a line item. Visiting one-to-one rates in Dubai are quoted from AED 180 to AED 350 by Bestimate and from AED 200 to AED 500 by home-tutor providers. A real portion of the gap above the online rate is the tutor's time on Al Khail Road and across Ras Al Khor at the school-run hour. What the premium buys is presence in the room. What it costs is the size of the pool you can select from, and for Analysis and Approaches HL that pool is already narrow.

IB Gram publishes no hourly figure here. The right number depends on route, level, Exploration stage and how close the May session is, and a single printed rate would be wrong for most people reading this. One free trial lesson per student comes first, with the quote given after a tutor has seen the work. No payment and no card details are required to book it.

The MYP to Diploma jump in maths, and why it bites in Year 12

  • MYP maths is criterion-assessed internally; most years have no external timed paper
  • The Year 12 gap is pace, method-writing and no second attempt, not topic knowledge
  • Investigating patterns is the MYP criterion that maps onto the Exploration
  • Timed papers early in Year 12 and one practice investigation close most of the gap

Several schools serving Dubai Creek Harbour run the Middle Years Programme through Year 11 and then move students into the Diploma. MYP mathematics is criterion-assessed through internal tasks: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. There is no external timed paper in most MYP years. A student can therefore reach Year 12 with a strong maths record and no experience of a ninety-minute written examination.

The gap that opens is rarely about content. It is about pace under timed conditions, about writing method for a marker rather than for a teacher who knows the student, and about the absence of a second attempt. MYP tasks are often revisited and resubmitted; Diploma papers are not. The first Year 12 assessment is where this becomes visible, and it is the most common reason a Creek Harbour family contacts us in the autumn term rather than in the spring.

The one piece of MYP that genuinely prepares a student for the Diploma is the investigating-patterns criterion, and it maps almost directly onto the Exploration. A student who learned to generalise a pattern, justify a rule and reflect on its limits in Year 10 has a head start on criterion D and criterion E. A student whose MYP investigations were completed quickly to a template does not, and will meet those criteria for the first time with twenty per cent of a grade attached.

The fix is not more content teaching. It is timed-paper exposure early in Year 12, marked strictly to the published scheme, plus one Exploration-style investigation attempted before the real one is chosen. Both are cheap in hours and both are usually skipped, because they feel like a detour from the syllabus.

07

Schools, KHDA and what a Creek Harbour parent can verify

  • Dubai 2024-25: 227 private schools, 387,441 students, IB at 7% of enrolment
  • KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase for 2026-27 on 22 May 2026
  • KHDA regulates schools; it does not approve tutors or tutoring platforms
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free for two years and applied for through MoHRE directly
  • A teacher should not take paid private work with students enrolled at their own school

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Dubai had 227 private schools serving 387,441 students in 2024-25, offering seventeen curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for seven per cent of enrolment against thirty-seven per cent on UK curricula. Seven more private schools join the market for the 2026-27 intake, three of them IB, creating 16,846 new places. KHDA also confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year.

What a parent should take from that is scale and context, not endorsement. A KHDA inspection rating is a judgement about a school. It says nothing about any tutor, and no tutoring provider inherits it. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation for training institutes with premises and staff, with initial approval first and annual renewal, and we do not hold one. Any provider implying regulator endorsement is making a claim worth checking before you buy.

Tutoring itself is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The application route is MoHRE's own Private Tutor Licensing service, with no fee and a stated two working days. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, no amount appears here.

One further point specific to maths. A Creek Harbour family may be tempted to ask their child's own maths teacher for private lessons. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. The person who teaches the class and moderates the Exploration should not be paid separately by one family in it.

Getting matched from Dubai Creek Harbour, and what we do when nobody is free

  • Send course, level, Exploration stage, latest internal mark and two workable windows
  • One free trial lesson per student, with no payment or card details beforehand
  • If no route specialist is free we say so and give a realistic wait
  • Weekend mornings widen Higher Level tutor choice more than any other change

The sequence is deliberately short. Send the course and level, the Exploration stage, the most recent internal mark out of what, and two or three evening windows that genuinely survive a normal week after the school run. We match a route specialist, run one free trial lesson in the slot you intend to keep, and give you a plan afterwards. Nothing is charged before the trial and no card details are needed to book it.

Then the part other pages omit. Specialists in Analysis and Approaches Higher Level are genuinely scarce, and the scarcity concentrates in the weeks before the May session, which is exactly when demand peaks. If nobody with the right route and level has a slot in your window, we will say so, give a realistic wait, and offer the nearest honest alternative rather than placing a general maths tutor and calling it an IB match. The alternatives are a different time slot, a shorter weekly commitment with a specialist whose availability is limited, or paper-technique work while the subject slot is pending.

There is a scheduling lever worth knowing about. The weekday window between 17:00 and 19:00 Gulf Standard Time is the busiest hour in the UAE tutoring day, and it is also the only window a Creek Harbour family with a Nad Al Sheba commute can realistically use on a school night. Families able to offer a weekend morning have materially more choice of tutor, and for Higher Level routes that often decides whether the match is exact or approximate.

Finally, the limits. Nobody can promise a grade and this page does not. Nothing here implies that tutoring is required for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency, for university admission, or for progression at school; those are regulatory and institutional processes with their own published rules, and the authority rather than a tutoring provider is where to verify them. What a route-correct match can do is turn hours the student is already spending into marks the mark scheme will actually award.

Where we tutor

Where Creek Harbour's IB maths students actually go to school

Scheduling an IB maths session from Dubai Creek Harbour depends on which cluster the student commutes to. These are the neighbourhoods we schedule around and what each one does to the evening.

Apartment and Creek Beach districts with no private school inside the community. IB students commute out daily, so the first workable session is usually 16:45 or later and depends on the Ras Al Khor crossing rather than on distance.

Across the Creek, with Swiss International Scientific School Dubai in the district running IB alongside a bilingual programme. The shortest routine run from Creek Harbour, and the cluster where a 16:30 start is sometimes realistic.

Culture Village

Jaddaf Waterfront, sharing the Creek-side road network and the same school destinations. Families here face the same southbound pinch on Al Khail Road in the late afternoon as Creek Harbour households do.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

North London Collegiate School Dubai and Hartland International School sit here, and both draw IB families from the Creek. The run puts students on Al Khail Road at its worst hour, pushing sessions towards 17:00.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

GEMS Modern Academy runs the IB Diploma in this corridor alongside British-curriculum neighbours. It is the longest routine commute from Creek Harbour and the cluster where weekend morning sessions help most.

Dubai Festival City

Universal American School Dubai and Deira International School are the closest secondary schools to Creek Harbour. Short distance, single crossing, and therefore the cluster most exposed to one traffic incident changing the evening.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

No large private secondary school sits in either district, so pupils commute outward exactly as Creek Harbour pupils do. Parents working here often sit the trial lesson themselves before committing the family calendar.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Creek Harbour

Al Jaddaf, Festival City and the Creek crossing

The closest cluster to Dubai Creek Harbour and the one with the shortest journey home. IB Diploma provision sits alongside other international curricula here, so a Creek Harbour household can easily have one child on the Diploma and another on IGCSE in two different schools across the same bridge.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Dubai English Speaking College

Sobha Hartland, Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

The southern corridor along Al Khail Road, where several schools run the IB Diploma and the Middle Years Programme. This is the cluster that generates most MYP-to-Diploma transition requests from Creek Harbour, because students arrive in Year 12 without timed-paper experience in mathematics.

  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Collegiate American School

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the route and the level

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard Level. A photograph of the subject selection or the latest report settles it. Without this the match is a guess, and the two routes share little enough at Higher Level that a guess is expensive.

  2. 02

    Sit one diagnostic paper

A timed past paper on the exact course and level, marked against the published scheme question by question. The marking chooses the topic list, which is why the list then shortens week by week instead of simply being read through from the syllabus contents page.

  3. 03

Fix a slot the school run survives

Tell us which school, what time the student is genuinely home in Creek Harbour, and which weekday carries the co-curricular fixture. We schedule for the worst normal day, because a slot that works four days in five collapses by the third week of term.

  4. 04

Place the Exploration in the calendar

Twenty per cent of the grade belongs in the quieter part of the two-year cycle, not the term where mocks and other subjects' internal assessments land. Topic choice comes first and early, because personal engagement cannot be added to a topic that was never the student's own.

  5. 05

Run the free trial, then plan

One trial lesson per student, live and one-to-one in the intended slot, so you are testing the real arrangement. The tutor writes a short note on what they found and what they would do first. The quote follows the trial, not the enquiry.

  6. 06

Review at the next school assessment

The school's own mock is the checkpoint. If the marks have not moved where the plan predicted, the plan changes or the tutor does. Replacement within the same week is possible because the match was never bounded by driving distance from Ras Al Khor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to one route and one level

Not to IB maths in general. A tutor who has taught Analysis and Approaches Higher Level to completion and marked Explorations against the five criteria is a different person from a strong general mathematician, and the difference shows in the first lesson rather than in the final grade.

The Exploration treated as twenty per cent

Because it is. Topic coaching early, criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft, reflection modelled on unrelated material, and referencing taught properly. Never writing, never restructuring to a standard, never supplying the mathematics.

Diagnosis before teaching

One timed paper marked to the published scheme, then a topic list built from the marking. It routinely finds that the problem is unjustified steps, calculator mode or timing rather than content, and those are faster to fix than a syllabus gap.

A pool that is not bounded by Ras Al Khor

Online delivery exists here to widen choice, not to cut cost. Within driving distance of Dubai Creek Harbour the number of tutors who have genuinely taught Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is small; nationally it is not. That is the whole argument.

Figures with a source and a date

Every AED number on this page names the organisation that published it and the month it was read. No IB Gram hourly rate is printed, because the correct figure depends on route, level and session proximity, and one landing-page number would be wrong for most readers.

No regulator claims and no date guesses

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval. We also publish no IB exam or results date, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and a wrong date is something a family would act on.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Creek Harbour: your questions answered

Is there really an IB maths tutor near me in Dubai Creek Harbour who knows Analysis and Approaches HL?+

Within a short drive of Ras Al Khor, the pool of tutors who have taught Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level to completion is small. Not empty, but small enough that a proximity search usually returns someone adjacent: a strong A Level mathematician, or an IB tutor whose experience is Standard Level or the Applications route. IB Gram solves it by removing travel. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched to your child's exact route and level. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, which is precisely what makes the national specialist pool available to a Creek Harbour family.

Creek Harbour schools offer two IB maths routes — which one does a parent need to understand first?+

Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and proof-oriented course: function manipulation, calculus technique, and at Higher Level induction, complex numbers and the Maclaurin series. Its Paper 1 is sat without technology. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics course: regression, hypothesis testing, Voronoi diagrams and financial mathematics, with a graphic display calculator permitted throughout. Neither is simply harder. They are differently harder, and the practical difference is university entry: engineering, mathematics, physics and computer science courses commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, often at Higher Level, and some will not accept Applications instead.

Out of the final maths grade, what proportion rests on the Exploration rather than the papers?+

Twenty per cent, in all four course and level combinations. It is assessed on five criteria: presentation at four marks, mathematical communication at four, personal engagement at three, reflection at three, and use of mathematics at six, for twenty marks in total. The practical significance is that one fifth of the grade is the only component a student fully controls, and it rewards planning rather than revision. A student who leaves it to the final fortnight has gambled that proportion of their grade on one difficult week, usually the week other subjects' deadlines also land.

What exactly does Paper 3 test, and can it be revised by topic?+

Paper 3 is sat at Higher Level only, lasts one hour, and carries twenty per cent of the Higher Level grade. It presents two extended problem-solving questions that walk a student through an unfamiliar investigation in guided stages. It cannot be revised by topic, because its content is drawn from across the course and its difficulty lies in reading the scaffolding and following it. It is practised as a format: attempt past Paper 3 questions, read how each one is structured before answering, and learn to use the earlier parts as the route into the later ones.

Can a tutor help write my child's maths Exploration?+

No, and you should decline any offer to do so. A tutor may read the student's own draft and mark it against the five published criteria, explain what a criterion rewards, help narrow a topic until genuine personal engagement is possible, and model reflection on an unrelated investigation. A tutor may not write it, restructure it to a standard, or supply the mathematics. There are providers in this market selling completed Internal Assessments. That is a malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the candidate, not the seller. We record whose work was in front of us at each session.

My child is in Year 12 after MYP and suddenly struggling with timed maths papers. Is that normal?+

It is common and it is usually a technique gap rather than a content gap. Middle Years Programme mathematics is criterion-assessed through internal tasks, often revisited and resubmitted, with no external timed paper in most years. Diploma papers are timed, marked by someone who does not know the student, and offer no second attempt. The fix is exposure: timed papers early in Year 12, marked strictly to the published scheme, plus one practice investigation before the real Exploration topic is chosen. Both are inexpensive in hours and both are routinely skipped as a detour from the syllabus.

What should a Dubai Creek Harbour family expect to pay for IB maths tuition each month?+

Working from the market's own published figures rather than from an hourly rate in isolation: Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run roughly AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle band, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages advertised in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those were read in October 2026 and belong to other providers, not to IB Gram. Our quote follows the free trial lesson, because it depends on route, level and how close the session is.

Is a cheap online tutor at AED 50 an hour good enough for Standard Level maths?+

Sometimes, for a narrow purpose. Budget online tutoring in Dubai is advertised from AED 33 to AED 52 by Tutopiya and from AED 45 to AED 65 by EdFlik, which typically means a university student teaching a subject they sat recently. For unblocking homework in a Standard Level course that can genuinely work. For Exploration feedback against five published criteria, for Paper 3 technique, or for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, it usually does not, and the reason is specificity rather than ability. Match the tier to the job rather than to the budget alone.

Which schools near Dubai Creek Harbour run the IB Diploma?+

No private school sits inside Dubai Creek Harbour, so students commute. Swiss International Scientific School Dubai is immediately across the Creek in Al Jaddaf. Universal American School Dubai sits in Dubai Festival City, the nearest cluster. South along Al Khail Road, North London Collegiate School Dubai in Sobha Hartland and GEMS Modern Academy in Nad Al Sheba both run Diploma programmes. KHDA reported the International Baccalaureate at seven per cent of Dubai private enrolment in 2024-25, and three of the seven new schools for the 2026-27 intake are IB. Schools are named as market context only, with no affiliation implied.

When can an IB maths session start if my child commutes to Nad Al Sheba?+

Later than most families expect. Secondary schools in the Nad Al Sheba and Meydan corridor finish in the mid-afternoon, and the run back to Creek Harbour puts a student on Al Khail Road at the school-run hour, so 17:15 is a realistic first slot on a normal weekday and later on a co-curricular day. Choose the slot for your worst normal weekday rather than your best. If any part of the weekend is available, a Saturday or Sunday morning session is worth more than the same hour at 18:30, and it widens the choice of Higher Level specialist considerably.

Does IB Gram have an IB or KHDA accreditation for maths tutoring?+

No. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson. KHDA is Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority and is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate; it regulates and inspects schools, and a school's inspection rating is a judgement about that school rather than about any tutor. A KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to training institutes with premises and staff. Treat any provider implying regulator endorsement as a reason to check their other claims.

Does the tutor teaching my child need a UAE permit, and can I check it?+

An individual providing private tutoring in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's own Private Tutor Licensing service, listed with no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Ask for the permit category. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

Why does this page not give the IB exam dates for the May session?+

Because they could not be verified from the IB's own site, which blocks automated checking. An unverified exam date on a landing page is a date a family might plan a term of revision around, and getting it wrong is worse than omitting it. UAE schools sit the main May session. For every date that matters, including internal Exploration draft deadlines, your school's IB coordinator holds the authoritative calendar. By contrast, the Cambridge and Pearson dates referenced elsewhere on this site come from those boards' own published timetable pages and are cited accordingly.

How many sessions a week does an IB maths student in Dubai usually need?+

Most Creek Harbour families start with one weekly hour and raise it only for a reason. One hour a week suits a student who follows lessons but makes consistent errors; two suits a Higher Level student carrying both a content gap and an Exploration deadline. Beyond two weekly hours, the limiting factor is usually the student's own practice time rather than tuition. We would rather schedule one well-placed session the school run can survive than two the family cancels by the third week, and the plan is reviewed at the school's next assessment.

Would pairing maths and physics with the same tutor save us an evening on the Creek Harbour schedule?+

Occasionally, and we would not optimise for it. The overlap in content is real, particularly in mechanics and in calculus applications, so a tutor comfortable with both exists. But the Exploration in maths and the Internal Assessment in physics are assessed against different criteria and need different coaching, and Paper 3 at Higher Level maths is a distinct format. If one specialist genuinely covers both at the right level, the scheduling convenience is a real benefit. If not, two exact matches beat one approximate one.

Tell us the route, the level and the Exploration stage

If you are looking for an IB maths tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour, three facts decide the match: Analysis and Approaches or Applications, Higher or Standard Level, and where the Exploration stands. Send those with two evening windows that survive a normal school run, and we will match a route specialist, run one free trial lesson in the slot you intend to keep, and build a plan from a diagnostic paper rather than from a syllabus contents page. Lessons are one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time. No grade promises, no regulator claims, no unverified exam dates, and every AED figure attributed to whoever published it.
