IGCSE Maths Tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour

Hiring an IGCSE maths tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour sounds like one decision and is really five: the board, the specification code, the tier, whether Additional Mathematics is also being taken, and which series the school has entered. Most tutors advertising near Ras Al Khor will not be asked any of those questions before the first lesson. We ask them before the match, and lessons then run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Matched by code and tier: 0580, 0606, 4MA1 or 4MB1, confirmed in writing first
  • Lessons are live online one-to-one; IB Gram makes no UAE home visits
  • Past papers worked from the student's own board, never an adjacent one
  • One free trial lesson per student before any payment or card details

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Creek Harbour

Five questions before you hire anyone

A parent in Dubai Creek Harbour asking whether anyone nearby actually knows this syllabus is asking a fair question, and the answer depends entirely on which syllabus is meant. IGCSE mathematics is not one qualification. Cambridge runs Mathematics 0580, divided into Core and Extended, and Additional Mathematics 0606 as a separate award. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE Mathematics Specification A, 4MA1, tiered Foundation and Higher, and Specification B, 4MB1, which is a different paper structure again. Four codes, three tier systems, and no interchangeability between the past-paper sets.

So the five questions are these. Which board? Which code? Which tier? Is 0606 or an equivalent additional award also being taken? And which series is the entry for, June or November? A tutor who cannot answer those after three lessons is teaching mathematics competently in the general direction of your child's examination. That is the specific failure this market produces, and it is invisible until the mock, when marks come back lower than the student's understanding deserves and everyone concludes more hours are needed.

Geography makes it worse here rather than better. Dubai Creek Harbour contains no private school, so its secondary pupils travel out every morning: across the Ras Al Khor crossing to Dubai Festival City, down Al Khail Road into Sobha Hartland and Nad Al Sheba, or over the Creek to Al Jaddaf. Those schools do not share one board. A family selecting a tutor by proximity is therefore selecting from a pool that happens to live near a bridge, not from a pool that has taught their child's code.

IB Gram removes travel from both sides of the arrangement. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Dubai Creek Harbour or anywhere else in the UAE; home visiting is a service that exists only in India. That is stated plainly because a family weighing a visiting tutor against an online specialist should know which one they are reading about, and because the trade is a real one with a cost table attached further down this page.

On the calendar, one correction worth making early. Cambridge's February and March series is offered in India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Any provider quoting a Dubai family a March maths window has the wrong country, and a family that planned revision towards it would lose a term. Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers and are set by the school's own exam office.

What follows is specific to mathematics and specific to this neighbourhood: the two boards compared code by code, what each tier ceiling actually means for a grade, the topics where marks reliably disappear, why Additional Mathematics 0606 matters more than its reputation suggests, what the Dubai market charges, and how a session fits around a Creek Harbour school run.

At a glance

  • Four codes in common use: Cambridge 0580 and 0606, Pearson 4MA1 and 4MB1
  • Cambridge tiers as Core and Extended; Pearson tiers as Foundation and Higher
  • Core and Foundation tiers carry a grade ceiling that cannot be exceeded
  • UAE candidates sit June and November; the February/March series is India-only
  • Creek Harbour has no school inside it, so pupils commute to several boards
  • Lessons are online one-to-one; IB Gram does not visit UAE addresses

Creek Harbour families need IGCSE maths support at three distinct points, and the useful work differs sharply between them. These are the routes we cover.

0580Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

The two-year Cambridge award, entered at Core or Extended. Core is capped below the top grades; Extended carries the full range. Assessment is by written papers at the end of the course with no coursework component. Number, algebra, coordinate geometry, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, vectors and transformations, probability and statistics make up the content, with Extended adding depth in each.

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable per zone, stating that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. That is why two Creek Harbour pupils at different schools can sit the same maths paper at different local times. We plan revision from the school's own issued timetable and check paper durations against the current syllabus on cambridgeinternational.org, because Cambridge revises them.

4MA1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics

Specification A, 4MA1, is tiered Foundation and Higher and assessed by two written papers of two hours each, 100 marks apiece, with a calculator permitted. Specification B, 4MB1, is a different structure and is entered by a smaller number of schools. Foundation tier carries a grade ceiling, so tier choice is a grade decision taken a year before the exam.

Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so we work from the live official PDF rather than restating a date that may be revised.

0606Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Cambridge Additional Mathematics

A separate award taken alongside 0580 Extended by students heading for post-16 mathematics. It introduces functions, quadratics in depth, binomial expansion, differentiation, integration, advanced trigonometry and vectors a year early. There is no Core tier; the whole award sits at Extended level.

Around Dubai Creek Harbour, 0606 is where the local tutor pool thins out fastest. It is taken by a minority of students, so the number of tutors within driving distance of Ras Al Khor who have taught it to completion is small. It is also the single strongest bridge into A Level Mathematics or IB Analysis and Approaches, which makes a thin local pool an expensive constraint rather than a minor one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Within IGCSE mathematics the requests cluster in predictable places. These are the topic areas Creek Harbour families ask about most, and what each one actually requires.

Algebraic manipulation

Extended and Higher tier

Expanding, factorising, algebraic fractions, changing the subject of a formula and solving simultaneous equations including one non-linear. This is the largest single source of lost marks at the top tiers, and almost all of it is sign error inside a correct method rather than a misunderstanding.

Functions and graphs

Extended, Higher tier, and 0606

Sketching quadratics, cubics, reciprocals and exponentials, reading solutions from intersections, and in 0606 composite and inverse functions with domain and range. Marks go to students who label axes and intercepts; sketches without labels are treated as decoration by the scheme.

Trigonometry

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Right-angled triangles, sine and cosine rules, area of a triangle, bearings, and three-dimensional problems at the higher tiers. The reliable failure is the ambiguous case of the sine rule, closely followed by a calculator left in the wrong angle mode for a whole question.

Mensuration and geometry

All tiers

Area, volume, surface area, arcs and sectors, similar shapes with area and volume scale factors, and circle theorems. Scale factors are the discriminator: students who square and cube them correctly gain marks that students who apply the linear factor throughout cannot recover.

Probability and statistics

All tiers

Averages from grouped data, cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal class widths, tree diagrams and conditional probability. Histograms with unequal widths are a standing trap, and tree diagrams are where a drawn diagram earns marks the same reasoning in prose would not.

Number, ratio and percentage

Core and Foundation especially

Standard form, bounds and limits of accuracy, compound interest, reverse percentages and proportional division. Reverse percentage is the single most commonly failed Foundation and Core question type, and bounds questions reward a student who writes the interval before calculating.

Vectors and transformations

Extended and Higher tier

Column vectors, magnitude, vector geometry proofs, and the four transformations with full descriptions. A transformation question requires the complete description, so a rotation without a centre and direction earns part marks at best.

Calculus in 0606

Additional Mathematics only

Differentiation of polynomials, products, quotients and trigonometric functions, stationary points, rates of change, and integration including definite integrals and areas. This is the content that makes 0606 the bridge into post-16 mathematics and the reason specialist availability matters.

Paper technique and timing

All tiers

Minute-per-mark allocation, writing method so that method marks are claimable, and the final-five-minutes checking habit. For most students at a mid grade, technique work moves marks faster than any additional topic coverage does.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Creek Harbour families use IGCSE maths tuition, all delivered online one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Which one fits depends mainly on how many weeks remain before the series.

Weekly specification-matched sessions

One hour a week on the student's exact code and tier, planned against the school's own teaching order rather than a generic syllabus sequence. This is the format for a Year 10 who is following lessons but losing marks, and it leaves room for the school's assessment weeks without the plan collapsing.

  • Same slot weekly, chosen for the worst normal weekday
  • Past papers from the student's own board and tier only
  • A written note after each session naming the practice set
  • Pause a week for school assessments without losing the slot

Pre-series intensive block

A compressed run in the eight to twelve weeks before a June or November series, driven by timed papers marked against the published scheme. The topic list is produced by the marking rather than by the syllabus contents page, which is why it shortens week by week instead of staying the same length.

  • A diagnostic timed paper before any teaching is planned
  • Marking to the official published scheme, question by question
  • Frequency raised in school holidays, not during assessment week
  • A shortening topic list the student can see getting shorter

Additional Mathematics 0606 support

For students taking 0606 alongside 0580 Extended, usually with less teaching time in school than the content warrants. Calculus, advanced trigonometry and binomial expansion arrive quickly and the award has no lower tier, so there is nowhere to retreat to.

  • Calculus taught from first principles rather than as rules to recall
  • Worked past-paper questions with the method written out in full
  • Deliberate links forward to A Level or IB Analysis and Approaches
  • Honest advance notice of match time, since specialists are scarce

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Creek Harbour

01

Cambridge 0580 against Pearson 4MA1, specification by specification

These two codes dominate IGCSE mathematics in Dubai, and a family can reach Year 11 without being told which one applies. It is on the statement of entry and the school exam office will confirm it in one email. Doing so before buying tuition is the highest-value five minutes available in this whole process, because the past-paper sets are not interchangeable and the tier systems are not equivalent.

Pearson Specification A, 4MA1, is tiered Foundation and Higher and assessed through two written papers of two hours each, 100 marks apiece, with a calculator permitted. Specification B, 4MB1, exists and has a different structure; a smaller number of schools enter it. Cambridge 0580 divides into Core and Extended rather than Foundation and Higher, entered as a shorter paper plus a longer structured paper at each tier, with no coursework. Cambridge has revised paper durations and calculator arrangements across syllabus versions, so the current syllabus document on cambridgeinternational.org is the only safe reference for those details, and we check it per cohort rather than relying on memory.

The scheduling difference matters as much as the content one. Cambridge allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a timetable per zone, and it states plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam because the wrong zone timetable was used. Pearson publishes one international timetable, provisional first and then final. A Creek Harbour revision plan built from a timetable found through a general search rather than issued by the school is built on the wrong document.

The table below is the comparison reduced to what changes the tutoring. It is deliberately specific about codes, because codes are what a parent can check against a statement of entry in under a minute.

What a tier choice actually costs, and when it is made

Tier is the most consequential decision in IGCSE mathematics and it is frequently made quietly. Cambridge Core and Pearson Foundation both carry a grade ceiling: a student entered at the lower tier cannot be awarded the top grades regardless of how well they perform. Extended and Higher carry the full range but include harder content and a steeper paper. Schools usually decide on the basis of Year 10 performance, and a parent who does not ask will often learn the decision after it has been made.

The reason to ask early is that the decision is reversible for a while and then is not. A student sitting mid-range marks in Year 10 may be placed at the lower tier for safety, which protects a pass and closes the top grades. If post-16 plans include A Level Mathematics, Physics, Economics or an IB Higher Level science, the ceiling matters, because those courses assume the Extended or Higher content. Closing that door at fifteen to secure a safer grade at sixteen is a trade worth making deliberately rather than by default.

Where tuition genuinely changes the picture is in the window between the provisional tier decision and the final entry. A student who is borderline and gets focused work on the specific Extended topics that scared the department can move the decision. A student who gets generalised extra maths usually does not, because the department is watching particular evidence: algebraic fluency, confidence with the harder geometry, and performance on the longer structured paper under timed conditions.

The table sets out what each tier ceiling means in practice and what the realistic tutoring target is at each position.

Where IGCSE maths marks actually disappear

  • Reverse percentage is the most frequently failed Core and Foundation question type
  • Area and volume scale factors must be squared and cubed, not applied linearly
  • Histograms with unequal class widths need frequency density, not frequency
  • Write every line of method, so a wrong answer can still carry method marks

Parents in Creek Harbour usually report that the topics got harder. The mark schemes usually report something else. A large share of lost marks at both tiers are not knowledge failures at all. They are sign errors inside correct methods, unclaimed method marks, scale factors applied linearly to areas and volumes, calculators left in the wrong angle mode, and the last three questions on the long paper left unattempted because minutes were spent unevenly.

Take reverse percentage, the most reliably failed question type at Core and Foundation. The student knows what a percentage is. The question gives a price after a discount and asks for the price before. The student multiplies instead of dividing. It is a one-line error that recurs across every paper and costs marks every time, and it is fixed in roughly twenty minutes of deliberate practice. Similar shaped errors sit in area and volume scale factors, where the linear factor is applied to a volume, and in histograms with unequal class widths, where frequency is read instead of frequency density.

At Extended and Higher, the dominant loss is unclaimed method. A student reaches a correct answer in three lines where the scheme awards marks across five, then loses two marks on a question they fully understood. In the reverse case, a student makes an arithmetic slip early and writes so little working that no method mark can be rescued from a wrong answer. Both are solved by the same instruction: write the line you were about to do in your head. It takes a fortnight of enforced habit and is worth more than a month of new content.

This is why the first session is a diagnostic rather than a lesson. One timed paper on the exact code and tier, marked against the published scheme question by question, and the topic list is then written by the marking. A list produced that way shortens each week. A list copied from the syllabus contents page stays the same length until the exam.

04

Additional Mathematics 0606: the bridge most families find out about late

  • 0606 has no lower tier; the whole award sits at Extended level
  • It introduces calculus and binomial expansion a year before post-16 courses do
  • Schools often teach it in less time than the content needs, outside the main timetable
  • Specialist availability is thin in any single district and wider nationally

Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 is taken by a minority of IGCSE students and it is the single most useful qualification for anyone heading into post-16 mathematics. It introduces differentiation, integration, binomial expansion, composite and inverse functions, and advanced trigonometric identities a full year before A Level or the IB Diploma would. A student arriving in Year 12 having done 0606 meets almost nothing genuinely new in the first term. A student arriving from 0580 Extended alone meets several things at once.

There is no Core tier in 0606, so there is no safer version to fall back on, and schools often teach it in less curriculum time than the content warrants, sometimes as an additional option outside the main timetable. The result is a cohort of capable students covering calculus quickly, with the department moving on before fluency has settled. That is exactly the shape of problem one-to-one work solves well, because the gap is narrow and specific rather than broad.

The availability problem is the reason this section exists on a Creek Harbour page specifically. Within a practical driving radius of Ras Al Khor, the number of tutors who have taught 0606 through to a June series is small. It is not a reflection on Dubai's teaching market; it is arithmetic about a minority subject in one district. Nationally the pool is considerably larger, and online delivery is what makes it reachable. Where we cannot match a 0606 specialist in the window a family needs, we say so and give a realistic wait rather than placing a general maths tutor against it.

For families still choosing options, the practical advice is simple. If post-16 plans point towards A Level Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or IB Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, 0606 is worth the extra load. If they do not, the same hours spent raising an Extended grade are better spent.

05

What IGCSE maths tuition costs around Dubai Creek Harbour

Lead with the cheapest tier, because it is where most families begin. Budget online tutoring in Dubai is advertised from AED 33 to AED 52 by Tutopiya and from AED 45 to AED 65 by EdFlik. That usually means a tutor who sat the subject recently rather than one who has taught it to a series. For unblocking Core or Foundation homework, that can be genuinely sufficient and buying more would be waste. For Extended algebra, for 0606 calculus, or for paper technique marked against a published scheme, it generally is not.

A qualified subject tutor online in Dubai is quoted at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist rates run from around AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 or more. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the top. Each of those numbers belongs to the provider named, read in October 2026. None of them is IB Gram's price list.

The in-home comparison is the one Creek Harbour geography makes concrete. Visiting rates are quoted from AED 180 to AED 350 by Bestimate and from AED 200 to AED 500 by home-tutor providers. A meaningful share of the premium above the online rate is the tutor sitting in traffic on Al Khail Road or waiting at the Ras Al Khor crossing at the school-run hour. What it buys is presence in the room. What it costs is choice, because a visiting tutor must live within a practical drive, and for 0606 or for Higher tier Pearson that constraint is the binding one.

We print no IB Gram hourly rate here. The right number depends on code, tier, series proximity and session length, and a single figure on a landing page would be wrong for most readers. One free trial lesson per student comes first, and the quote follows it. Nothing is charged beforehand and no card details are taken to book it.

Fitting a maths session into the Creek Harbour evening

  • Maths degrades faster than reading subjects when a session runs late
  • Realistic first slots from Creek Harbour: 16:45 Festival City, 17:00 Hartland, 17:15 Nad Al Sheba
  • Sixty minutes at 17:00 beats ninety at 18:30 for algebra-heavy work
  • Weekend mornings widen tutor choice, which matters most for 0606

Mathematics is the subject most sensitive to session timing, because it is the one that collapses fastest when a student is tired. Reading a history source at 19:00 after a long commute is possible. Holding four steps of an algebraic rearrangement in working memory at the same hour frequently is not. So for maths specifically, an earlier shorter session beats a later longer one, and a weekend morning beats both.

The arithmetic of a Creek Harbour evening runs roughly like this. A secondary pupil at a Dubai Festival City school is generally home by 16:00 if the Ras Al Khor crossing behaves, making 16:45 the first realistic slot. A pupil commuting to Sobha Hartland is better at 17:00, and one travelling to Nad Al Sheba or Downtown at 17:15 or later. A co-curricular day pushes all of those back by an hour or shifts the session to the weekend entirely. Choose the slot for the worst normal weekday rather than the best, because the fixture nobody mentioned is what kills a weekly arrangement in week three.

Two practical consequences follow. First, sixty focused minutes at 17:00 is worth more for maths than ninety minutes at 18:30, and we will say so rather than sell the longer session. Second, families able to offer a weekend morning have materially more choice of tutor, because the weekday window from 17:00 to 19:00 Gulf Standard Time is the busiest hour in the UAE tutoring day. For a scarce specification such as 0606 that often decides whether the match is exact or approximate.

Where two children in one household need maths at different levels, running both sessions back to back on one evening keeps the rest of the week clear and keeps a parent supervising once rather than four times. It is a small logistical point that makes a term-long arrangement survivable.

07

Permits, regulators and the coursework line

  • KHDA regulates Dubai schools; it does not approve tutors or platforms
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free for two years, applied for directly through MoHRE
  • No fine schedule is published, so any quoted fine figure is unverified
  • A teacher should not be paid privately for students enrolled at their own school
  • Board papers and mark schemes are linked from official sites, never supplied

Private schools in Dubai are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Dubai had 227 private schools and 387,441 students in 2024-25, with thirty-seven per cent of pupils on UK curricula, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year. None of that is an endorsement of any tutor. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson, and no claim on this page depends on one.

Tutoring is regulated separately, by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's own Private Tutor Licensing service, listed with no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount is quoted here and none should be quoted to you.

There is a related boundary worth naming. A Creek Harbour parent may be tempted to pay their child's own maths teacher for private lessons. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. The person who teaches the class and sets its assessments should not be separately paid by one family in it.

On materials, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade boundary tables are copyright works. We reference and link them from the boards' own sites; we do not reproduce or supply them as downloads. In lessons we show a student how to find the official source themselves, which is a skill worth more than any file we could hand over.

08

Getting matched, and what happens if the specialist is not free

  • Send board, code, tier, 0606 status, series and two workable evening windows
  • One free trial lesson per student before any payment or card details
  • If no specification specialist is free we say so and give a realistic wait
  • Review at the school's next assessment; replace the tutor the same week if needed

Send five things: board, specification code, tier, whether 0606 is also being taken, and the series the entry is for. Add two evening windows that genuinely survive a normal week after the school run. We match a specification specialist, run one free trial lesson in the slot you intend to keep, and give you a plan afterwards. One trial per student, nothing charged beforehand, no card details required to book it.

Then the honest part. Specialists concentrate unevenly, and the thinnest coverage is for 0606 and for Pearson Specification B, in the weeks immediately before a series when demand is highest. If nobody with the right specification has a slot in your window, we will tell you, give a realistic wait, and offer the nearest genuine alternative: a different time slot, a shorter weekly commitment with a specialist whose availability is limited, or paper-technique work while the subject slot is pending. What we will not do is place a general maths tutor and describe the match as exact.

Review happens at the school's next assessment rather than on a fixed schedule. If marks have not moved where the plan predicted, the plan changes or the tutor does, and replacement inside the same week is possible precisely because the match was never bounded by driving distance from Ras Al Khor. That is the practical benefit of online delivery that nobody advertises, and it matters most in the final term.

Two limits to state plainly. Nobody can promise a grade and this page does not. And nothing here implies that tutoring is needed for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency, for university entry or for school progression; on the British track the published equivalency rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary Levels. Verify your own case with the Ministry.

Where we tutor

Creek Harbour's school clusters and what each does to the maths slot

Where the student goes to school decides when an IGCSE maths session can realistically start from Dubai Creek Harbour. These are the clusters we schedule around.

Dubai Creek Harbour

Towers and the Creek Beach district, with no private school inside the community. Every secondary pupil commutes, so the first workable maths slot is usually 16:45 and depends on the Ras Al Khor crossing rather than on distance.

Al Jaddaf

Directly across the Creek and the shortest routine run from Creek Harbour. Families here sometimes manage a 16:30 start, which matters for maths because an earlier slot means a sharper student on algebra.

Culture Village

Jaddaf Waterfront, on the same Creek-side roads and feeding the same schools. Scheduling behaves like Al Jaddaf rather than like Creek Harbour, despite the two being minutes apart.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai draw heavily from the Creek. The southbound Al Khail Road run at the school-run hour pushes a realistic maths session towards 17:00.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Repton School Dubai, Kent College Dubai and GEMS Modern Academy sit here. The longest routine commute from Creek Harbour, and the cluster where a weekend morning session is worth more than a weekday one.

Dubai Festival City

Deira International School and Universal American School Dubai are the nearest established secondary options. Short distance, one crossing, so a single traffic incident rather than a long journey is what moves the session.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

Neither district has a large private secondary school, so pupils commute outward as Creek Harbour pupils do. Parents working here frequently take the trial lesson themselves before fixing a family slot.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Creek Harbour

The Creek crossing: Al Jaddaf and Dubai Festival City

The nearest secondary cluster to Dubai Creek Harbour and the one with the shortest journey home. British and international curricula run alongside each other here, which means two children in one Creek Harbour household can easily sit two different maths specifications in two schools across the same bridge.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Dubai English Speaking College

Al Khail Road south: Sobha Hartland, Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

The second destination for Creek Harbour pupils and the one with the heaviest school-run load. British-curriculum IGCSE provision is strong across this corridor, and several schools run post-16 routes that make Additional Mathematics worth taking at sixteen.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the code and the tier in writing

Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, Cambridge 0606, Pearson 4MA1 at Foundation or Higher, or Pearson 4MB1. A photograph of the statement of entry settles all of it. This is the step that prevents the commonest failure in this market, which is good teaching aimed at an adjacent paper.

  2. 02

    Sit one diagnostic paper

A timed past paper on the exact code and tier, marked against the published scheme question by question. The marking writes the topic list, which is why it shortens week by week rather than staying as long as the syllabus contents page it would otherwise have come from.

  3. 03

Fix a slot before the student is tired

Tell us the school and the real time the student is home in Creek Harbour, plus which weekday carries the co-curricular fixture. Maths rewards an earlier shorter session over a later longer one, so we will push for 16:45 or 17:00 where the commute allows it.

  4. 04

Run the free trial and plan from it

One trial lesson per student, live and one-to-one in the intended slot, so the real arrangement is what gets tested. The tutor writes a short note on what the diagnostic showed and what they would address first. The quote follows the trial rather than the enquiry.

  5. 05

Count the weeks backwards from the series

Fix how many weeks exist before June or November, then decide what each week has to achieve. Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers and are set by the school exam office, so the series question is settled before the revision plan is written.

  6. 06

Review at the school's next assessment

The mock or internal assessment is the checkpoint. If the marks have not moved where the plan predicted, the plan changes or the tutor does. Replacement inside the same week is possible because the match was never limited to tutors living near Ras Al Khor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the code, not the subject

0580 Extended, 0606, 4MA1 Higher and 4MB1 are four different preparations. We confirm which one applies before the first lesson and work only from that board's past papers, because a term aimed at an adjacent specification shows up at mock time with no runway left.

Diagnosis before any teaching plan

One timed paper marked to the published scheme, then a topic list written by the marking. It regularly finds that the problem is reverse percentages, scale factors or unwritten method rather than a content gap, and those are faster and cheaper to fix than a syllabus review.

Timing chosen for mathematics specifically

Algebra at 18:30 after a Nad Al Sheba commute is a poor use of an hour. We push for the earliest slot the school run allows and recommend weekend mornings where they exist, and we will say so even when it means selling a shorter session.

Honest about scarce specifications

Additional Mathematics 0606 and Pearson Specification B have thin coverage in any one district. Where we cannot match a specialist in your window, we give a realistic wait rather than placing a general maths tutor and calling the match exact.

Figures with a named source and a date

Every AED number here names the provider that published it and the month it was read. We print no IB Gram hourly rate on this page, because the correct figure depends on code, tier and series proximity and a single printed number would be wrong for most readers.

No regulator claims and no India-only exam dates

IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson approval. And UAE candidates sit June and November, never the India-only February or March series, which is a date several pages aimed at Gulf parents get wrong.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Creek Harbour: your questions answered

Can an IGCSE maths tutor come to our apartment in Dubai Creek Harbour?+

Some Dubai agencies do send visiting tutors, at published in-home rates of roughly AED 180 to AED 350 on Bestimate's table and AED 200 to AED 500 from home-tutor providers. IB Gram is not one of them. We deliver one-to-one tuition for UAE families online over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and we do not send tutors to any UAE address; home visiting is an India-only service. The trade for a Creek Harbour family is usually favourable, because it replaces a pool bounded by a drive from Ras Al Khor with one that has actually taught your child's specification.

Which maths specification code will my child's Dubai school have entered them for?+

It will be one of four in common use: Cambridge 0580 Mathematics at Core or Extended, Cambridge 0606 Additional Mathematics, Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 Specification A at Foundation or Higher, or Pearson 4MB1 Specification B. The code appears on the statement of entry and the school exam office will confirm it by email. Ask before buying any tuition. The past-paper sets are not interchangeable, and a term of preparation aimed at the adjacent code looks fine until the mock, when marks come back below what the student's understanding deserves.

What is the real difference between Core and Extended in Cambridge 0580?+

Content and ceiling. Core covers a narrower syllabus and is capped below the top grades, so a Core candidate cannot be awarded them however well they perform. Extended includes algebraic fractions, vectors, circle theorems and harder trigonometry, and carries the full grade range. The decision is normally made by the school on Year 10 evidence. If post-16 plans involve A Level Mathematics, Physics, Economics or an IB Higher Level science, the ceiling matters, so it is worth asking the department which tier they are planning well before entries close.

Is Pearson Foundation tier a safer choice than Higher for a borderline student?+

It is safer for securing a pass and it closes the top grades, which is a real trade rather than a free one. Foundation reduces the algebra and geometry demand, which suits a student who is losing marks through insecurity rather than through gaps. Higher keeps the full range open but presents a steeper paper where written method becomes essential. For a genuinely borderline student, the useful window is between the provisional decision and the final entry, and focused work on the specific Higher topics the department doubts can move the decision when general extra maths will not.

Why does Additional Mathematics 0606 matter if my child is already taking 0580?+

Because it introduces differentiation, integration, binomial expansion, composite and inverse functions and advanced trigonometric identities a year before A Level or the IB Diploma would. A student who has done 0606 meets almost nothing new in the first term of a post-16 maths course. A student arriving from 0580 Extended alone meets several things at once. It has no lower tier, and schools often teach it in less curriculum time than the content warrants, which is why one-to-one support on it is a narrow, specific job rather than a broad one.

Why is it hard to find a 0606 tutor close to Ras Al Khor?+

It is arithmetic rather than a reflection on Dubai's teaching market. Additional Mathematics is taken by a minority of IGCSE students, so the number of tutors in any single district who have taught it through to a June series is small. Nationally the pool is considerably larger, and that is what online delivery reaches. Where we cannot match a 0606 specialist inside the window a family needs, we say so and give a realistic wait rather than placing a general maths tutor against a calculus syllabus and describing the match as exact.

Which maths topics cause Creek Harbour students the most lost marks?+

At Core and Foundation, reverse percentage leads by a distance: the question gives a price after a discount and asks for the price before, and the student multiplies instead of dividing. Close behind are area and volume scale factors applied linearly instead of squared and cubed, and histograms with unequal class widths read as frequency rather than frequency density. At Extended and Higher, the dominant loss is unclaimed method, where a correct answer in three lines forfeits marks a five-line scheme would have awarded on a question the student fully understood.

How much should a Creek Harbour family budget each month for IGCSE maths help?+

Using published market estimates rather than an hourly figure alone, Bestimate's monthly bands for a weekly one-hour session run roughly AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages advertised in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those figures were read in October 2026 and belong to other providers, not to IB Gram. Our own quote follows the free trial lesson, because it depends on code, tier and series proximity.

Is AED 50 an hour enough for Core or Foundation maths support?+

For a narrow purpose, often yes. Budget online tutoring in Dubai is advertised from AED 33 to AED 52 by Tutopiya and AED 45 to AED 65 by EdFlik, which generally means a tutor who sat the subject recently. For unblocking Core or Foundation homework that can be genuinely sufficient, and paying more would be waste. For Extended algebra, 0606 calculus or paper technique marked against a published scheme, it usually is not, and the limit is specificity rather than ability. Match the tier of tutor to the job rather than to the budget alone.

What time should a maths session start if my child commutes to Sobha Hartland?+

Around 17:00 on a normal weekday. Secondary schools in the Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City corridor finish in the mid-afternoon and the run back to Creek Harbour puts the student on southbound Al Khail Road at the school-run hour. Mathematics is the subject most sensitive to fatigue, because holding several steps of a rearrangement in working memory is harder than reading a text at the same hour. Sixty focused minutes at 17:00 is worth more than ninety at 18:30, and a weekend morning is worth more than either.

Can my child retake IGCSE maths in November rather than losing a year?+

Yes. Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November series, and UAE candidates may sit either. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in May/June and November. The November route is the standard retake path. Two practical points: the entry must be made through the school's exam office shortly after the June results, and results arrive in the new year rather than in August, which matters where a sixth-form or university conversation depends on them. Pearson's November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Should we be planning for a February or March maths exam in Dubai?+

No. Cambridge's February and March series is offered in India only, and UAE candidates sit the June and November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. This matters because several pages written for Gulf parents quote a February or March window with an Indian entry deadline, and a family acting on it would plan a term of revision towards an exam their school cannot enter them for. Treat a provider quoting that window to you as a reason to check everything else they have said.

Does my child's Cambridge maths exam start at a different time from a friend's?+

It can, and it depends on the school's administrative zone rather than its district. Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six zones and publishes a separate timetable for each, and it states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. That is why two Creek Harbour pupils at different schools can sit the same maths paper at different local times. Print the timetable the school issues, give the tutor the same copy, and do not work from one found through a general search.

Is IB Gram approved by Cambridge or by KHDA to teach IGCSE maths?+

No. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE. KHDA is Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate; it regulates and inspects schools, and an inspection rating is a judgement about a school rather than about any tutor. A KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to training institutes with premises and staff. Treat any provider implying regulator endorsement as a reason to examine their other claims carefully.

Can you supply past papers and mark schemes for my child to work through?+

We work from them in lessons and we link the official source, but we do not reproduce or supply them as downloads. Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade boundary tables are copyright works, and redistributing them is not something a legitimate provider should offer. What we do instead is show the student how to find the official material on the board's own site, which is a more useful skill: a student who can locate a current syllabus can also check a claim a tutor has made.

Send the code, the tier and the series

If you are looking for an IGCSE maths tutor in Dubai Creek Harbour, the match is decided by five facts: board, specification code, tier, whether Additional Mathematics is being taken, and which series the entry is for. Send those with two evening windows that survive a normal school run and we will match a specification specialist, run one free trial lesson in the slot you intend to keep, and build the topic list from a diagnostic paper rather than from a syllabus contents page. Lessons are one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time. No grade promises, no regulator claims, and every AED figure attributed to whoever published it.
