IB MYP French Home Tutor in Dubai

An IB MYP French home tutor in Dubai is quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour, and somewhere inside that figure sits a car. IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE, so this page does the arithmetic instead: what the travel component actually costs, which session patterns are worth paying for, how the phases are priced differently, and the three ways Dubai families routinely overpay for French. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time and the first one is free.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Two French quotes for the same child can differ by AED 300 an hour, and both can be honest

Ring four providers in Dubai about MYP French and you will be given four numbers with no shared basis. One quotes per session and one per hour. One includes marking and one treats it as goodwill. One assumes ninety minutes because they are driving to Mudon and one assumes thirty because they are not. The numbers are not comparable, and almost nobody in this market makes the basis explicit, which is how a family ends up choosing on instinct.

This page separates the parts. The honest components of a French tutoring price in Dubai are the phase being taught, whether written work is set and marked, how long the minimum session is, how often it happens, and whether somebody is travelling. Five variables. Once each one is written down, two quotes that looked incomparable turn out to differ in two specific places, and you can decide whether those two differences are worth what they cost.

The travel component deserves its own line because it is the largest invisible charge in the market. Bestimate's Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour and independent listings reach AED 500, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject teacher working online. The gap is not the teaching. It is a drive across the city at the worst hour of the day, bought at a teacher's hourly rate.

The second invisible charge is minimum session length. Nobody drives to Remraam for thirty minutes, so in-home bookings come as ninety minutes or two hours. That raises the monthly bill even when the hourly rate is identical, and for French specifically it buys the wrong shape: oral fluency improves on frequency, so two short slots a week beat one long session, and the long session is the only one an in-home model can sell profitably.

IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Dubai lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Everything priced below is market data with its source attached, published so that a parent can see which band a quote belongs in. Our own figure is given after a free first session, once the phase and the target are known, with marking inside it rather than bolted on afterwards.

A word on why a tutoring page is publishing other providers' prices at all. Three of the six pages ranking for searches like this one publish no price whatsoever, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a Dubai household transacts in. A parent trying to work out whether AED 250 an hour is reasonable currently has nowhere to check. Putting the whole range on one page, with each band attributed to the provider or table that published it and dated, is more useful than another paragraph about quality, and it lets a family argue with us on the numbers.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

French costs different amounts at different stages, and the increases are not gradual. Two moments raise the price sharply: the move into the upper phases, and the move into the Diploma. Planning around those two is worth more than negotiating an hourly rate.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

French runs across six phases with four criteria, each on a band out of eight. Pricing tracks the phase rather than the year group, because the pool of tutors who can teach Phase 5 register work is far smaller than the pool who can teach a beginner. The cost curve is therefore flat through the early phases and steepens noticeably from Phase 4 upwards.

For a Dubai family the cheap years are MYP 1 to MYP 3, and that is also when work is most effective, because habits are still forming. Buying support in MYP 2 at the lower band is consistently cheaper across five years than buying it in MYP 5 at the specialist band, and the second option also arrives too late to change the Diploma route.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Primary French is cheap to support and rarely needs paying for, because the assessment stakes are nil and the content is widely taught. Where families do spend, it is usually on confidence before a school change rather than on grades, and a handful of short sessions is the sensible shape.

Dubai schools timetable wildly different amounts of primary French, from thirty minutes a week to several lessons. That variation is the real cost driver later, because a child with minimal primary French starts MYP 1 in an early phase and may need two years of support to reach the phase their classmates began in.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

French B at Standard or Higher Level, ab initio for a genuine beginner, or French A as literature. Diploma rates are higher across every subject, with specialist bands of AED 200 to 450 and above becoming standard rather than premium, and two years of support at those rates is a substantial commitment.

The expensive path for a Dubai household is a weak MYP 5 French record followed by two years of Diploma support at specialist rates. The cheaper path is a targeted block in MYP 4 that protects the Higher Level option. The decision point is a year earlier than most families realise, because Year 12 option blocks are built well in advance.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

French requests divide into tasks with genuinely different price points, because each needs a different kind of tutor and a different session length. These are the ones Dubai families ask for, with the band each one sits in.

Phases 1-2 beginner support

MYP 1-3 typically

The widest supply and the lowest rates, from the budget band upwards. Vocabulary, present tense, greetings and gender habits. Genuinely good value at AED 100 to 150 an hour if the person can show you a plan, and specialist rates here are simply waste.

Phases 3-4 writing and tense accuracy

MYP 3-5

The mid band, and where most Dubai spending goes. Perfect against imperfect, agreement, text types. Needs somebody who can band a script rather than correct it, which is the skill that separates AED 150 from AED 300 an hour in practice.

Phases 5-6 register and analysis

MYP 5 and bridging

The specialist band, AED 200 to 450 and above on published market figures. Subjunctive, controlled register, analytical vocabulary, unadapted text. The supply of tutors who can do this in Dubai is thin, and the price reflects scarcity rather than effort.

Oral-only short slots

Phases 2-6

Fifteen to thirty minutes, twice a week, on unprepared turns. Priced per hour at the mid band, so the monthly figure is similar to a weekly hour while the frequency is doubled. Not viable at all as an in-home booking, since nobody drives for twenty minutes.

Listening log block

Phases 2-6

Four to six short sessions tagging failed question types: numbers, negatives, speaker attitude. Cheap, narrow and unusually effective, because it replaces hours of general listening practice with targeted work on the two or three types that actually fail.

MYP 5 ePortfolio text-type block

MYP 5

Four to six sessions on the conventions of the text types a portfolio needs, plus a range audit of what has already been collected. Priced as a block. Teaching and feedback on the student's own work only; nothing in a portfolio may be produced by a tutor.

Phase placement evidence, one-off

All phases

A single session plus a written page banding three tasks against two phases, for a family disputing a placement. One of the few genuinely one-off purchases in this market, and the cheapest thing on this list relative to what it can change.

Holiday intensive before DP1

End of MYP 5

Daily sessions across one or two weeks of a Dubai school holiday, aimed at a specific gap before French B starts. Costs AED 2,000 to 4,500 at specialist rates, and the gains fade without some follow-up in term time, which is worth budgeting for at the same moment.

Paired sessions at the same phase

Phases 1-4

Two students within a phase of each other sharing a session at a reduced rate each. Works for reading, listening and written feedback, works badly for speaking since the talking time halves. Declined where the phases are two or more apart.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Dubai families buy French, priced so the comparison is honest. Each shows what it is good for and what it is not, because the cheapest pattern and the right pattern are only sometimes the same thing.

Weekly hour with marking inside the rate

Sixty minutes a week plus one written task set, banded against the phase descriptor and returned before the next session. The marking is part of the quoted figure. A rate that excludes marking looks cheaper on the phone and costs more per band moved, because written feedback is where Criterion D progress actually comes from.

  • Marking and written feedback inside the hourly figure
  • One banded task every week with the criterion named
  • Rate fixed for the term, not re-quoted before reports
  • Best value for Phases 3 and 4 writing work

Two short slots a week at the same monthly spend

Two sessions of fifteen to thirty minutes rather than one hour, at a similar monthly figure. Built for oral fluency and listening, which respond to frequency rather than to length. This is the pattern an in-home model cannot sell at a sensible price, and it is one of the few places where the online format is cheaper and better at once.

  • Same monthly spend, twice the contact
  • Unprepared turns rather than rehearsed answers
  • Suits Criterion A and Criterion C targets
  • Too short for extended writing work

Fixed-price block with a named target

A text-type block, a listening log block, or a holiday intensive, each sold at an agreed total with a defined end. Blocks cost more per hour than a standing weekly slot and considerably less in total, because they stop. An open-ended weekly hour that nobody measures is the most expensive thing in this market precisely because it never ends.

  • Total price agreed before the first session
  • One named target and a stated end point
  • Missed sessions deferred inside the block
  • Reviewed rather than renewed by default

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What an IB MYP French home tutor costs in Dubai, by phase and task

The direct answer first. A qualified subject teacher working online one-to-one is quoted roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour in Dubai, programme specialists AED 200 to 450 and above, budget and university-student tutors from around AED 45, and in-home visits AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. Those bands come from Bestimate's Dubai 2026 rate table and from prices published by EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase and BartyED.

The table below splits those bands by what a family is actually buying, because the phase and the task move the number more than the format does. Beginner French is the cheapest serious language hour available in the city. Phase 5 and 6 work sits at the specialist end because the supply of people who can teach controlled register and analytical vocabulary in French is small. The monthly column assumes the session pattern most families settle into rather than a maximum.

Two things to hold in mind while reading it. These are market figures with sources attached, not our price list; ours is quoted after a free first session once the phase and the target are known. And a monthly total is a weak comparison on its own, because a cheaper month built from one unmarked ninety-minute session usually buys less movement than a dearer month built from two short marked ones.

One row is worth pointing at. Oral-only short slots are not viable as an in-home purchase at any price, because the economics of driving across Dubai require a long session. That is not a criticism of in-home teaching; it is a structural limit. For a student whose problem is Criterion C speaking, the format decides what can be bought before the rate is even discussed.

What a home visit adds to the bill, component by component

The useful way to compare an in-home quote with an online one is to take the in-home figure apart rather than argue about formats. Four components explain almost all of the difference, and three of them are logistics rather than teaching. None of this makes in-home teaching poor value in general; it makes it expensive for a subject whose marks respond to frequency and to fast marking, which is exactly what a language subject does.

Travel is the biggest single line. Against an online qualified-teacher band of roughly AED 150 to 300, the published in-home range of AED 180 to 500 implies somewhere between AED 50 and 150 an hour of journey, varying with distance and the time of day. A family in Mudon or Remraam pays near the top of that; a family near the Trade Centre pays near the bottom. It is a real cost, honestly incurred, and it buys no teaching.

Minimum session length is the component parents miss. A ninety-minute minimum raises the monthly bill by half against a sixty-minute one even when the hourly rate is identical, and the extra thirty minutes is frequently spent on something other than the fault that needed fixing. For French, concentration on grammar correction and oral work is not linear; the back half of a two-hour session is rarely worth what the front half is.

The last two components, marking turnaround and cancellations, cost nothing to improve online and are almost impossible to improve in-home. A correction returned in two days teaches a rule; the same correction at the next visit a fortnight later reads as a verdict on work the student has forgotten. And a session lost to Dubai evening traffic is money gone, whereas a video session can usually be moved inside the same week.

03

Native-speaker status is not the price driver parents expect

Families assume a native speaker costs more and is worth more, and in the MYP neither half of that is reliably true. Dubai has a large francophone population, so native speakers are plentiful and the budget end of the market is full of them. What is scarce is somebody who can read a piece of writing, name the Criterion D band it sits in against phase descriptors, and say what the next band requires. Those are different skills and the market prices them separately.

Where native fluency genuinely matters is Criterion C and Criterion A. A confident model of spoken French, with natural pace, liaison and idiom, is what a student needs to practise against, and recorded playback is more useful when the model is authentic. For oral-only short slots a native speaker at a mid rate is excellent value. For a student losing marks on written register, the same person may be no help at all.

The practical test costs nothing and settles it in five minutes. Send a piece of your child's writing and ask the tutor to band it and name the next move. A trained non-native teacher will often do this better than a fluent speaker with no assessment training, and the difference is visible immediately in how specific the answer is. Vague praise about the writing being good is an answer to a different question.

The most expensive mistake available here is paying a specialist rate for native fluency alone. The second most expensive is paying a budget rate for assessment expertise you then do not get. Both come from treating the subject as French rather than as MYP French, and the fix is to decide which criterion you are buying for before looking at anybody's rate card.

04

Session length and frequency: what you are actually paying for

Hold the monthly spend constant and the shape of the sessions becomes the only variable, which is the right way to compare options. Four hours a month can be one weekly hour, two short slots a week, or a long session every fortnight, and those three buy very different results in a language subject. The table prices all of them at the same mid-band figure so the comparison is about what works rather than about what costs.

The pattern that loses most often is the long fortnightly session, and it is also the one families default to when weeks are unpredictable. Two weeks is long enough for the previous session to fade, so each lesson spends its first twenty minutes re-establishing ground. For grammar that needs to become automatic, and for oral fluency, the gaps undo much of the work, which is why the cheapest monthly figure on the table is rarely the best value on it.

The pattern that wins for writing is the weekly hour with a marked task, because the task is where the learning happens and the session is where it is corrected. The pattern that wins for speaking and listening is two short slots, which fit between a Dubai school bus and dinner and double the contact at the same monthly cost. Most students need one of those two rather than something in between.

Holiday intensives are a special case worth pricing separately. Daily sessions across one or two weeks of a Dubai school break can close a specific gap quickly, particularly before French B starts, and the published specialist bands put a two-week intensive at AED 2,000 to 4,500. Gains fade without some term-time follow-up, so budget for a few sessions afterwards at the same moment rather than discovering the need in October.

05

Paired and group French: where sharing works and where it does not

Sharing a session is the most common way Dubai families try to reduce the bill, and it works for some of the subject and not for other parts of it. The economics are straightforward: two students at a reduced rate each costs less per family than two separate hours. The teaching question is what gets halved, and in a language subject one of the four criteria gets halved much more severely than the others.

Reading, listening and written feedback share well. A reading passage can be set at a level both students can access, listening tasks are answered individually and discussed together, and written work is marked separately so neither student loses anything at all on Criterion D. For those three criteria a shared session is close to a free saving, provided the two students are genuinely within a phase of each other.

Speaking does not share. Criterion C improves on time spent talking, and a shared hour halves it. Worse, in a pair one student usually dominates and the quieter one practises less than half, so the arithmetic is more punishing than it looks. For a student whose target is speaking, two short individual slots a week at the same monthly cost is a better purchase than a shared hour at a lower rate.

There is one hard limit worth stating. Where two students are two or more phases apart, we decline the pair rather than run it, because the session is then pitched wrongly for at least one of them and both families are paying for something that only half works. A sibling discount is not worth a term of teaching the younger child above their level and the older one below theirs.

06

The francophone demand curve in Dubai, and what it does to prices

French pricing in Dubai behaves differently from most subjects because supply and demand are unevenly matched across the phases. The city holds a substantial francophone professional population and two French-system schools, which means a large supply of fluent speakers available at the budget and mid bands. That keeps beginner and middle-phase French cheaper here than it would be in a city without that population.

At the top of the subject the picture reverses. The teachers who can work on Phase 5 and 6 register, analytical vocabulary and unadapted text are mostly employed by schools, and the private pool is small. So the cost curve across the phases is unusually flat at the bottom and unusually steep at the top, which is the opposite of what parents expect when they assume prices rise smoothly with age.

Demand is seasonal on top of that, and the seasons are set by school calendars rather than by public exams. Requests concentrate in the weeks before internal assessment and reporting windows, and in the run-up to Diploma option choices at the end of MYP 4 and MYP 5. The specialist end books out first in each of those periods, so families arriving late choose from whatever remains rather than from the whole market.

The practical consequence is a timing decision worth more than a negotiation. Starting a block mid-term, when diaries are open, buys a better teacher at a calmer price than starting three weeks before a report. KHDA's confirmation in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27 is a useful reminder that the tutoring line is the part of the education budget nobody caps, which makes the timing discipline yours to impose.

07

Budgeting French across MYP 4 and MYP 5

These are the two years where French spending actually changes an outcome, because the MYP 5 record determines the Diploma route and the route determines two further years of cost. Treating them as a single two-year budget rather than as a term-by-term decision tends to produce both a lower total and a better result, since the work can be placed where it has leverage instead of where the panic happens to be.

A sensible shape for a student aiming to protect French B Higher Level looks like this. A targeted block in MYP 4 on whichever of reading or writing is weaker, since those are the criteria a school examines when allocating Higher Level. A lighter term afterwards, or none at all, with school provision carrying the load. Then a short text-type block in the first half of MYP 5, timed to the school's internal portfolio deadlines rather than to any public window.

At mid-band market rates that comes to roughly a term of weekly sessions plus two short blocks, rather than two continuous years of weekly hours. The saving against an open-ended arrangement across the same period is considerable, and the result is usually better because each block has a target and an end. The money goes where the criterion is rather than where the calendar is.

One final note on the ePortfolio year. MYP 5 Language Acquisition is assessed through a moderated portfolio of the student's own work rather than an on-screen examination, so there is no single date to buy revision for. What is worth paying for is text-type range and the student's own command of the descriptors, since a portfolio that repeats one register caps itself. A tutor may teach and give feedback on the student's work and must not produce any part of it.

08

Hidden extras: marking, materials, cancellations and tax

Four things routinely appear after a rate has been agreed, and all four are avoidable by asking in advance. Marking is the largest. An hour of teaching and an hour that includes setting, banding and returning a written task are different products, and when marking is charged separately the headline rate stops being comparable. Ask whether it is inside the figure and what the turnaround is, then compare quotes on that basis rather than on the hourly number alone.

Materials are the second. For MYP French the honest position is that most of what is needed is the student's own school tasks plus authentic text, so there should be little to buy. Treat a required course pack with some suspicion, and note that official syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes belong to the awarding bodies and should be referenced and linked rather than copied or supplied as downloads by anybody.

Cancellation terms are the third and the most commonly disputed. Dubai evenings produce genuine clashes, so the question is how much notice avoids a charge and whether a missed session can be deferred inside a block. Get the answer before booking rather than during the first argument about it, and prefer a block with a deferral rule over a standing slot that is simply lost when a fixture is rescheduled.

Tax is the fourth, and the only honest thing to say is narrow. We will tell you whether a figure we quote is inclusive of any applicable tax; we will not characterise the UAE VAT treatment of tuition generally, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority source and is not something to take from a tutoring page. Ask any provider to state plainly whether their quoted AED figure is what will leave your account.

09

Three ways Dubai families overpay for French

The first is paying for discovery. A tutor who spends four sessions working out what is wrong is being paid at a teaching rate to do a diagnosis, and the diagnosis is a forty-minute job if somebody asks the right questions. Send a page of written French and the last report before the first session, insist that the first session ends with a phase estimate and a named target, and the four weeks that would have gone on orientation go on teaching instead.

The second is paying for the wrong criterion. Most Dubai French students have an uneven profile, and more conversation practice for a student whose speaking is already their strongest criterion adds very little to a grade however enjoyable the sessions are. Half the marks in the subject sit in reading and writing. Buying against the criterion that is actually losing marks is the single largest saving available, and it costs nothing to work out first.

The third is the arrangement that never ends. An open-ended weekly hour with warm feedback and no measurement will run for as long as a family keeps paying, because stopping feels like giving up on the child rather than on the arrangement. Blocks with named targets and end dates cost more per hour and far less in total. A provider who resists being measured that way has told you something useful about the next two years.

None of the three is about hourly rates, which is why negotiating one is usually the least productive conversation available. Decide the criterion, decide the pattern, agree what marking is included, fix an end date, and the total falls by more than any discount would have delivered. Then judge the spending on a banded script rather than on how the sessions felt.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Where a family lives changes the in-home figure considerably and the online figure not at all, which is the single clearest argument in the comparison. These are the Dubai communities French bookings come from, with the cost or scheduling point that applies in each.

Za'abeel and World Trade Centre

Central, so in-home travel premiums are at their lowest here and local quotes are competitive. The constraint is a quiet room in an apartment rather than a drive, and short sessions work better than long ones.

Al Wasl and Jumeirah 2

A high concentration of francophone households and established schools, which keeps local French supply reasonable at the lower phases and does nothing for Phase 5. That gap is what online booking is used for here.

Mudon and Arabian Ranches 3

Towards the southern edge of the city, where the travel component inside an in-home rate is at its largest and sessions stretch to two hours to justify the journey. The monthly difference against an online pattern is substantial.

Remraam and Dubai Production City

Long drives in both directions, so in-home quotes here sit at the top of the published range. Families tend to buy blocks rather than standing weekly slots, so a missed week is deferred rather than lost.

Dubai Science Park and Al Thanyah

Close to several schools with shorter commutes, which makes a 4.30pm slot realistic and the twice-weekly short pattern genuinely workable without anybody rushing dinner.

Majan and Dubai Residence Complex

Price sensitivity is high here and budget-band quotes are common. The useful test is whether marking is included, because an unmarked hour at AED 90 is rarely the cheaper option across a term.

Jumeirah Islands and Jumeirah Heights

Villa communities with heavy weekend activity schedules. The pattern that survives is a fixed weekday evening slot plus a weekend written task, which also happens to be the cheapest useful shape for Criterion D work.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

The western school corridor

Families in this corridor are typically comparing a local in-home quote against an online specialist, and the phase decides which is better value. Below Phase 4 the local option is often fine; from Phase 5 the supply within driving distance thins out sharply.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the report and a page of written French

Those two things let the first session start on diagnosis instead of orientation, which is the cheapest saving in this whole process. Include the phase and the criterion bands if the school prints them, and say which pattern you are considering, weekly or twice-weekly.

  2. 02

Free first session, then one figure

Sixty minutes ending with a phase estimate, a named target criterion and a band on marked work. Our quote comes after that, as a single hourly figure with setting and marking inside it, and we say which session pattern we would recommend and why. No card is taken for the trial.

Agree the pattern, the end date and the terms

Weekly hour, two short slots, or a fixed-price block. We state the cancellation rule, the deferral rule inside a block, and whether the quoted figure is inclusive of any applicable tax. The rate holds for the term and is not re-quoted because a reporting window is coming.

Review at the end of the block, not by default

A block ends and gets a decision rather than rolling over. A fresh task banded against the same descriptor set shows whether the money moved anything. Buy another block, change the target, change the tutor, or stop; all four are real answers and we will say which we would pick.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One figure, marking included

The quote covers teaching, setting and banding written work, with the turnaround stated. Rates that exclude marking look cheaper and cost more per band moved, which is the most common way a French tutoring bill grows after the price has been agreed.

The travel line, shown rather than buried

Published in-home rates in Dubai imply AED 50 to 150 an hour of journey against online bands. We do not sell home visits in the UAE, and rather than argue about formats we publish the arithmetic so a family can judge what that component buys.

Patterns compared at equal spend

A weekly hour, two short slots and a fortnightly long session cost similar amounts and produce very different results in a language subject. We recommend by criterion rather than by convenience, including when that means selling fewer hours this term.

Blocks that end

Every block carries a named target and a stated end date agreed before it starts. Open-ended weekly arrangements are the most expensive thing in this market, not because the rate is high but because nothing ever triggers the decision to stop.

Scarcity stated plainly

Phase 5 and 6 French is thin across the whole Dubai market, including with us. Where nobody suitable is free for your slot we say so and name the honest alternative at the rate that matches what that person actually does.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an MYP French home tutor cost in Dubai?+

In-home one-to-one across Dubai is published at AED 180 to 350 an hour in Bestimate's 2026 rate table, with independent listings reaching AED 500 and monthly packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 advertised for four two-hour visits. Travel sits inside those figures. Online one-to-one with a qualified subject teacher runs roughly AED 150 to 300, and programme specialists AED 200 to 450 and above. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE, so those in-home figures are market context rather than an offer from us.

What does the travel part of an in-home French rate actually cost?+

Comparing the published ranges gives a usable estimate. Against an online qualified-teacher band of about AED 150 to 300 an hour, in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 imply somewhere between AED 50 and 150 an hour of journey, varying with distance and the time of day. A family in Mudon or Remraam sits near the top of that; one near the Trade Centre sits near the bottom. It is an honest cost honestly charged, and it buys no teaching whatsoever.

Is paying extra for a native French speaker worth it in the MYP?+

For speaking and listening, often yes; for written work, frequently not. Dubai has a large francophone population, so native speakers are plentiful at the budget and mid bands and are good value for oral-only slots where an authentic model matters. What is scarce is somebody who can band a piece of writing against phase descriptors and name the next move. Test it directly: send a script and ask for a band and a next step. Specificity in the answer is worth more than fluency in the speaker.

Is a ninety-minute French session better value than an hour?+

Usually not, and in-home economics rather than teaching is what produces the longer session. Concentration on grammar correction and oral practice is not linear, so the back half of a long session tends to deliver less than the front half. A ninety-minute minimum also raises the monthly bill by half at an identical hourly rate. For most MYP students a weekly hour with a marked task, or two shorter slots, buys more movement at the same or lower monthly spend.

How much should we budget for French across MYP 4 and MYP 5?+

Think in blocks rather than in continuous terms. A sensible shape is a targeted block in MYP 4 on whichever of reading or writing is weaker, a lighter term or none afterwards with school provision carrying the load, then a short text-type block in the first half of MYP 5 timed to the school's internal portfolio deadlines. At mid-band market rates that is roughly a term of weekly sessions plus two short blocks, which costs materially less than two years of weekly hours and usually works better.

Does sharing a French session with a classmate cut the cost?+

It reduces the per-family figure and only works for part of the subject. Reading, listening and written feedback share well, because the material can be pitched for both and writing is still marked individually. Speaking does not share: Criterion C depends on time spent talking, a shared hour halves it, and in practice one student dominates so the quieter one gets less than half. Where the two students are two or more phases apart we decline the pair, since the session is then pitched wrongly for at least one of them.

Why does Phase 5 French cost more than Phase 2 in Dubai?+

Supply. Dubai has a large francophone population and two French-system schools, so fluent speakers who can teach beginner and middle-phase French are plentiful and the lower bands stay competitive. Teachers who can work on Phase 5 and 6 register, analytical vocabulary and unadapted text are mostly employed by schools, and the private pool is small. The cost curve across the phases is therefore flat at the bottom and steep at the top, which is not how parents expect pricing to behave.

Is marking included in a French tutoring rate?+

With us it is, and it is the question worth asking every provider first. An hour of teaching and an hour that includes setting a written task, banding it against the phase descriptor and returning it before the next session are different products often advertised at similar prices. Ask whether marking is inside the figure and what the turnaround is. Once both quotes answer that, they become comparable, and the apparently cheaper one frequently is not cheaper at all.

Do French rates in Dubai go up before report cards?+

Headline rates often stay still while effective prices rise, because the specialist end books out first and what remains is whatever is left. A family looking three weeks before an internal assessment or a reporting window is choosing from a thinner pool at whatever that pool asks. Starting a block mid-term, when diaries are open, is the nearest thing to a free saving in this market. Our rate is fixed for the term in which it is agreed and is not re-quoted as a deadline approaches.

Are the AED figures on this page inclusive of tax?+

The figures on this page are other providers' published market rates, so what they include is a question for each of them. For our own quotes we state plainly whether the figure is inclusive of any applicable tax before anything is agreed. We deliberately do not characterise the UAE tax treatment of tuition in general, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority source and is not something any family should take from a tutoring page. Ask every provider to confirm what will actually leave your account.

What are the hidden extras in a French tutoring package?+

Four recur. Marking charged separately after an hourly rate has been agreed. Required materials, which for MYP French should be minimal because the work is the student's own school tasks plus authentic text. Cancellation terms, where the question is how much notice avoids a charge and whether a missed session can be deferred inside a block. And tax treatment of the quoted figure. All four are avoidable by asking before booking rather than during the first disagreement about an invoice.

Is a holiday intensive cheaper than a term of weekly French?+

Cheaper in total and more expensive per hour, and it suits a narrow purpose. Daily sessions across one or two weeks of a Dubai school break can close a named gap quickly, which makes it a good purchase before French B starts in Year 12. Published specialist bands put a two-week intensive at roughly AED 2,000 to 4,500. The gains fade without some term-time follow-up, so budget a few sessions after it at the same moment rather than finding out in October.

How do we avoid paying a tutor to work out what the problem is?+

Send the evidence before the first session: a page of your child's own written French, the latest report with its criterion bands if the school prints them, and where they were schooled before Dubai. Then insist the first session ends with a written phase estimate, a named target criterion and a band on marked work. That turns a diagnosis into a forty-minute job rather than four paid sessions of orientation, and the note stays useful for a year even if you book nothing else.

Is it cheaper to start French support in MYP 3 or wait until MYP 5?+

MYP 3 is cheaper per hour, cheaper in total and more effective, which is an unusual combination. Early and middle-phase work sits in the lower market bands, habits are still forming, and the same gap takes fewer hours to close. By MYP 5 the work is in the specialist band, the record that decides the Diploma route is already largely written, and the family is buying under time pressure. Waiting almost always costs more and buys a narrower set of options at the end of it.

If we are offered a cheaper French tutor instead, what are we losing?+

Ask what specifically changes, because sometimes the answer is nothing that matters. A budget-band tutor for Phase 1 or 2 vocabulary work is good value and specialist rates there are waste. What a lower rate usually removes is marking, assessment experience against phase descriptors, and the ability to say what the next band requires. For a student losing marks on written register, those three are the entire product. Have them band a script before deciding; the answer makes the trade-off obvious in five minutes.

Decide the criterion, then the price makes sense

Almost every confusing French quote in Dubai becomes clear once five things are written down: the phase, whether marking is included, the minimum session length, the frequency, and whether anybody is travelling. Work those out and two numbers that looked incomparable differ in two specific places you can then judge. Send the last report and a page of your child's written French; the first session is free and ends with a phase estimate, a target criterion and a band on marked work, which you keep whatever you decide. Our quote follows, with marking inside it. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not sell home visits in Dubai.
