IB Maths Tutor in Downtown Dubai

An IB maths tutor in Downtown Dubai is priced less by distance than by route: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level carries a Paper 3 that Applications and Interpretation does not, and that single component is what separates a sixteen-hour booking from a forty-hour one. This page publishes the AED bands families in Downtown Dubai, Business Bay and DIFC are quoted, names what each band includes, and shows where the money is usually wasted. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Downtown Dubai

What the money buys, line by line

Downtown Dubai families are rarely short of maths tutors. They are short of a way to tell one AED 180 hour from another AED 180 hour. The quotes arrive by WhatsApp with no scope attached: no route named, no paper named, no statement about whether the Internal Assessment is included or billed separately. Six weeks later the invoice total is clear and the progress is not. This page starts from the money because that is the part parents can actually audit before committing.

The published market in Dubai splits into five bands. University-student and budget online tutors advertise from AED 45 to AED 150 an hour; EdFlik lists from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits between AED 150 and AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. A tutor who drives to a Downtown address bills AED 180 to AED 500 once travel is priced in, per Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table and the independent home-tutor market. An IB, IGCSE or A-Level specialist runs AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase published at AED 270. Premium named or examiner-badged tutors reach AED 500 to AED 650, where BartyED sits. Those are market figures from the providers named, not an IB Gram price list.

The band matters less than the match. A Higher Level Analysis and Approaches student six weeks from the May session needs someone who can set a Paper 3 investigation, watch the student fail it, and diagnose whether the failure was in the modelling, the notation or the time. A budget tutor can mark Paper 1 answers correctly and still never touch that. The AED 120 difference per hour buys diagnosis, and diagnosis is the only thing that changes a grade.

The route decision is the second place money disappears. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is examined across three papers, with Paper 3 carrying twenty per cent of the grade in two extended problem-solving questions. Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level also sits three papers, but Paper 3 there is data-led and rewards a different skill entirely. Families who book twenty hours of general maths support before anyone has confirmed which route the school entered their child for are paying for coverage they will not use.

The third leak is scheduling. Downtown Dubai, Business Bay and DIFC families commonly finish school between 14:45 and 15:30, then sit in Sheikh Zayed Road traffic until well past 16:30. An in-home tutor billing from the moment they leave Jumeirah is being paid for Al Khail Road. Online delivery removes that line from the invoice entirely, which is a large part of why the same specialist costs less over video than in a car.

What follows is the detail: the rate table with sources, the AA versus AI comparison, the paper weightings, what a tutor may and may not do with a Maths IA under IB academic-honesty rules, the Cambridge and Pearson calendar counted backwards, and the regulatory position on who may legally tutor in Dubai. Read the cost sections first if the budget is the live question.

At a glance

  • Market band for qualified online IB maths support: AED 150-300 per hour, rising to AED 450 for specialists
  • HL Paper 3 is twenty per cent of the Analysis and Approaches grade and is the single most common gap
  • A Downtown school day ending at 15:00 makes a 16:30 or 19:30 online slot realistic; a 16:00 in-home slot is not
  • The Maths IA is twenty per cent of the final grade at both levels and is coached, not written
  • KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai will not rise for 2026-27
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Downtown Dubai sits inside the densest school catchment in the UAE, and the IB continuum runs through it at three levels. Each one prices differently because each one assesses differently.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Two years, six subjects, three at Higher Level. Mathematics is compulsory in Group 5, so every Diploma student in Downtown Dubai sits either Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation. The Internal Assessment, a mathematical exploration, carries twenty per cent at both routes and both levels. Higher Level adds a third paper; Standard Level does not.

Diploma maths is where Downtown spending concentrates, because the route is fixed in Year 11 and cannot be changed cheaply in Year 13. Families in Business Bay and Sobha Hartland typically book from January of Year 12 once mock results land, which is also when the market rate firms up. Booking before the route is confirmed is the most common way to waste a package in this area.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Five years assessed against four criteria: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. MYP maths splits into standard and extended in the final years, and the extended pathway is what feeds Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Criterion B, investigating patterns, is where most marks are lost.

MYP tutoring in Downtown Dubai is cheaper per hour than Diploma work and far cheaper in total, because it is preventative. A student who enters MYP Year 5 on the standard pathway and wants Analysis and Approaches Higher Level has a gap to close, and closing it over two years costs a fraction of a Year 13 rescue at specialist rates.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with mathematics organised across number, pattern and function, data handling, measurement, and shape and space. There is no external examination. Support here is about fluency and confidence rather than assessment technique, and sessions are shorter.

Primary maths support in the Downtown and Meydan corridor is usually booked for one of two reasons: a mid-year arrival from a non-IB system, or a Year 6 student heading into an MYP school with a visible arithmetic gap. Both are short engagements. Neither needs a specialist rate, and paying one is money spent on the wrong band.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller IB route combining Diploma courses with a career-related study and a reflective project. Where mathematics appears it is usually a Diploma Standard Level course, most often Applications and Interpretation, alongside personal and professional skills.

The Career-related Programme is offered by only a handful of Dubai schools, so Downtown families reaching it are usually travelling to a specific campus rather than a neighbourhood one. Maths support here is scoped tightly to the single Standard Level course carried forward, which keeps the booking small.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics is the page, but it does not arrive alone. These are the courses Downtown Dubai and Business Bay families book alongside it, with what each one actually assesses.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebra-and-calculus route. Higher Level sits Papers 1, 2 and 3; Paper 1 is taken without a calculator, and Paper 3 is two extended problem-solving questions worth twenty per cent. Marks are lost most often in proof by induction, complex numbers in Cartesian and polar form, and the unstructured nature of Paper 3 itself.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling-and-statistics route, calculator-permitted throughout. Higher Level adds graph theory, matrices and complex numbers in a modelling context. The common failure is treating statistics questions as arithmetic and omitting the interpretation sentence that carries the final mark.

Mathematics Internal Assessment

HL and SL

A twelve to twenty page mathematical exploration worth twenty per cent of the grade, marked against five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection, and use of mathematics. Criterion E, use of mathematics, is where Higher Level candidates are most often capped by choosing a topic below their level.

Physics

HL and SL

Booked with maths more often than any other subject in this area, because the mechanics and fields topics assume calculus fluency the Physics syllabus does not teach. Students who are weak on differentiation lose marks in Physics Paper 2 before they lose them in maths.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The quantitative chemistry, energetics and equilibrium topics are arithmetic-heavy, and the Higher Level Paper 2 calculation questions punish rounding errors. Students carrying a maths weakness into Chemistry usually present as careless rather than confused.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level Economics adds quantitative questions on elasticity, market failure and the Keynesian multiplier. The maths is not hard but the notation is unfamiliar, and Paper 3 at Higher Level is where the two subjects collide most visibly.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Covers abstract data structures, resource management and the internal assessment solution. Students who find Analysis and Approaches notation difficult often find pseudocode equally difficult, because both reward precision over intuition.

Business Management

HL and SL

The finance and accounts unit requires break-even analysis, investment appraisal and ratio calculation. Downtown and DIFC families commonly book maths and Business Management together once the Year 12 finance papers are returned.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by exhibition and a 1,600-word essay. Mathematics appears regularly as an area of knowledge, and students who can explain why a mathematical proof differs from scientific evidence write stronger essays.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece. Mathematics Extended Essays are fewer in number and are marked hard on the mathematical content criterion, so the topic choice conversation matters more here than in most subjects.

Arabic as an additional language

MoE mandatory

Required in all Dubai private schools regardless of licensed curriculum, under KHDA's mandatory-subject guidelines. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, and combined classes are prohibited. This runs alongside the IB timetable rather than inside it.

UAE Social Studies and Moral Education

MoE mandatory

Mandatory in Dubai private schools, with Arabic as the primary language of instruction for Arab students and the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arabs. KHDA calculates instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit and advises a minimum of 25 minutes per mandatory-subject lesson.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, priced differently because they cost different amounts to deliver. All three run over live video; none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one, 60 minutes

The default for a Diploma student working through the syllabus during term. One hour is long enough to teach a topic and set work, short enough to hold against a Business Bay commute. Bestimate's monthly estimate for weekly one-hour sessions runs AED 600 to AED 1,200 at the mid band and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

  • Set and reviewed against the school's own assessment calendar
  • Written feedback after each session naming the specific gap
  • Scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, typically 16:30 or 19:30
  • Paused rather than cancelled during mock weeks

Twice-weekly intensive, 60 or 90 minutes

Used in the final two terms before the May session, and by students who have switched route late. Two contacts a week means the gap found on Tuesday is retested on Saturday rather than next month. The cost roughly doubles the weekly figure, which is why it is scoped to a fixed number of weeks rather than left open.

  • Fixed block with a stated end date, not a rolling subscription
  • One session teaching, one session timed practice under exam conditions
  • HL Paper 3 given its own slot rather than squeezed into revision
  • Reviewed at the halfway point and stopped if it is not working

Internal Assessment coaching block

A short series of sessions across the exploration's life: topic scoping, mathematical level check against Criterion E, a structural review of the draft, and a reflection pass. The student writes every word. The tutor reads, questions and teaches the mathematics the student has chosen to use.

  • Topic scoped against the five assessment criteria before writing starts
  • Mathematical level checked so an HL candidate is not capped by an SL topic
  • Feedback given as questions and taught content, never as rewritten text
  • School's own internal deadlines used as the schedule, not ours

01

What IB maths tutoring costs in Downtown Dubai, with sources

Qualified one-to-one IB maths support in this part of Dubai is quoted between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour online, and between AED 200 and AED 450 for a specialist working at Higher Level. Those are the published market bands, attributed below. Three of the six best-ranking pages for this query publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, a currency no Dubai family transacts in.

The table splits the market by provider model rather than by brand, because the model is what determines the rate. A university student charging AED 50 and an examiner-badged specialist charging AED 600 are not competing for the same booking; they are solving different problems. What matters is knowing which problem you have before you pay for the other one.

Every figure below carries the provider that published it and is current as of October 2026. IB Gram's own position is deliberately not a number on this table: the first lesson is free, and the rate quoted after it depends on the route, the level and the number of weeks, which is a conversation rather than a price list. Treat any provider who quotes a rate before asking which maths route your child sits as a provider who has not read the question.

One more number belongs here for context. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai will not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. A tutoring budget set last year against an expected fee rise has room in it this year that most families have not noticed.

Where the money goes wrong

  • Confirm Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation in writing before booking anything
  • Match the rate band to the task: consolidation at the mid band, Paper 3 repair at the specialist band
  • Ask any in-home quote what the figure would be without travel, then compare that to the online rate
  • Set an end date and a halfway review on every block, and honour both
  • Ask what happens to unused sessions, and get the answer before the first payment

The expensive mistake in this market is not paying too much per hour. It is paying the right hourly rate for the wrong hours. Four patterns account for most of the waste we see in enquiries from Downtown Dubai, Business Bay and DIFC, and all four are avoidable before any money changes hands.

The first is buying a package before the route is confirmed. A family books twenty hours of Diploma maths in October, then discovers in November that the school entered their child for Applications and Interpretation rather than Analysis and Approaches. Half the content taught does not appear on the papers the student will sit. Confirming the route takes one email to the Diploma coordinator.

The second is paying a specialist rate for consolidation work. A Year 10 MYP student who cannot reliably rearrange a formula does not need a Higher Level examiner at AED 450. That student needs eight patient hours at AED 150 and then a reassessment. Buying the top band early usually means running out of budget in the term where the top band would actually have mattered.

The third is paying for travel. An in-home tutor crossing Al Khail Road at 16:00 is billing for the journey whether the invoice itemises it or not, and Bestimate's own in-home band sits AED 30 to AED 150 above the equivalent online band for precisely that reason. The fourth is the open-ended booking with no end date, no stated target and no halfway review, which drifts until someone notices the total.

03

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the decision that sets the bill

Every Diploma student takes a Group 5 mathematics course, and the two routes are genuinely different subjects rather than two difficulties of the same one. Analysis and Approaches is built on algebraic rigour, proof and calculus, and its Paper 1 is sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation is built on modelling, statistics and technology, with a calculator permitted throughout. A tutor who treats them as interchangeable will teach the wrong half of the syllabus.

The route also sets how many hours a student is likely to need. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level carries proof by induction, complex numbers in both Cartesian and polar form, and a Paper 3 that gives two extended unstructured problems worth twenty per cent of the grade. There is no efficient shortcut through Paper 3; it is practised or it is lost. Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level has its own Paper 3, data-led and equally unstructured, but the preparation is different in kind and students who read well often progress faster on it.

University entry is the part parents most often get wrong. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics programmes expect Analysis and Approaches, frequently at Higher Level, and will say so in their prerequisites. Business, psychology, design and most social sciences accept Applications and Interpretation without comment. Check the specific programme pages for the universities your child is actually applying to rather than relying on a general rule, because the requirement is set by the department and not by the country.

Where a route change is still possible, it is a Year 12 conversation and not a Year 13 one. Switching late means relearning a different Paper 1 discipline with months rather than terms, and that is the single most expensive tutoring scenario in this catchment.

Paper by paper: where the marks actually go

Parents are told their child is weak at maths. The useful version of that statement names a component. An IB Mathematics grade is assembled from external papers plus the Internal Assessment, and the loss pattern differs sharply by paper. A student who scores well on Paper 1 and badly on Paper 2 has a technology problem, not a mathematics problem, and the two need different sessions.

The Internal Assessment is twenty per cent at both routes and both levels, which makes it the single largest component a student fully controls. It is also the component most often left to the last three weeks. A student who submits a rushed exploration has capped their grade before sitting a paper, and no amount of specialist revision afterwards recovers that twenty per cent.

The table below sets out the structure and the characteristic failure for each component. Use it to turn a vague school report into a specific tutoring brief: if the mock showed Paper 2 method marks lost to calculator misuse, say that in the first message rather than asking for general maths help, and the first session will be worth more.

Command terms deserve their own mention because they cost marks invisibly. A question that begins 'hence' is instructing the candidate to use the previous result, and a student who starts again from first principles can reach the right answer and still lose the dependent marks. 'Show that' requires the working to be visible even where the answer is given. 'Justify' requires a reason attached to the statement. These are mechanical habits, teachable in two or three sessions, and they recur in every paper at both levels.

Confirm the current component structure and timings against your child's Diploma coordinator or the official IB subject page before planning around them, since the IB revises course structures between syllabus cycles.

The Maths IA: what a tutor may do, and what would get your child withdrawn

  • May teach mathematics beyond the syllabus that the student's chosen topic requires
  • May question a draft, criterion by criterion, without supplying replacement wording
  • May flag that a topic is below Higher Level and explain what would raise it
  • May not write, finish, restructure or ghost-edit any part of the exploration
  • May not supply a pre-worked topic, dataset or set of graphs for the student to submit

The mathematical exploration must be the student's own work. That is not a house rule, it is an IB academic-honesty requirement, and a breach is a malpractice finding against the student rather than against the tutor. Some providers in this market sell completed Internal Assessments outright. One advertises them at AED 3,750. Buying one risks the whole Diploma.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial. A tutor can teach the mathematics a student has chosen to explore, including content beyond the taught syllabus. A tutor can read a draft and ask why a step follows, where the reflection sits, and whether Criterion E is satisfied at the candidate's level. A tutor can point out that a topic is below Higher Level and explain what raising it would involve. A tutor can set deadlines against the school's own calendar and hold the student to them.

What a tutor may not do is write, rewrite, restructure or edit the text into its final state, supply a topic ready-made with the mathematics already worked, or produce the graphs and calculations the student then presents. The boundary in practice is simple: feedback arrives as questions and taught content, never as replacement prose. If a provider offers to 'handle' the IA, that is the answer to whether to use them.

The same boundary applies to the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay. Both are assessed as independent work, both carry supervisor declarations, and both are checked. A student who has been coached properly can explain every line of their own exploration under questioning, which is also what the viva-style conversations with a supervisor are designed to surface.

06

The exam calendar, counted backwards from the paper

Entry deadlines sit months before the exams, and families who plan from the exam date backwards discover the registration date has already passed. The honest way to present this is as a sequence of milestones with the body that sets each one, so a parent can check the live source rather than trust a date on a tutoring page.

For Cambridge International, UAE centres sit the June and November series. The February and March series is offered to India only and does not apply to candidates in Dubai. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone; Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Ask your school which zone it sits in before reading any timetable PDF.

For Pearson Edexcel, International GCSE exams run in May or June and in November. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always open the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

IB Diploma dates are deliberately not published on this page. The IB revises session windows and results dates, and we will not put a date in front of a parent that we have not read on ibo.org on the day. Dubai schools sit the May session; confirm the exact window and the results date with your child's Diploma coordinator or on the IB's own assessment pages, and plan the tutoring block from that confirmed date.

Who is legally allowed to tutor your child in Dubai

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', which lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any page quoting an amount is quoting something unverified; Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties. The practical point for a parent is that a permit exists, it is free, and a tutor who cannot explain their position on it has told you something.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor: it requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram does not hold a KHDA Educational Services Permit, operates no centre or office in the UAE, and is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Any provider claiming otherwise should be asked for the permit number.

In Abu Dhabi there is an additional restriction worth knowing even from Dubai, since families move between emirates. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it.

08

Tutoring cost in context for a Downtown Dubai family

A per-hour rate is hard to judge in isolation. Set against a Dubai school fee and a two-year Diploma, the same number reads differently. The table below puts the market bands into annual and programme-length context so a budget decision can be made once rather than renegotiated every month.

Two structural facts anchor it. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private-school fees in Dubai for 2026-27, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion out of AED 2.5 billion in total. And Dubai's private sector is growing rather than tightening: 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with enrolment up six per cent during 2025-26 and seven new schools opening for 2026-27.

The monthly figures below come from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates for weekly one-hour sessions and from the monthly packages competitors publish. They are market observations, not an IB Gram quote. Our own first lesson is free, with no card required and no commitment attached, and the rate after it is set against the route, the level and the number of weeks agreed.

Read across the rows rather than down them. A family already paying a Dubai school fee that is not rising this year, adding one mid-band hour a week, is adding something in the order of AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month for a term or two. The same family buying specialist exam-year support from January is adding AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for the final stretch. Those are different decisions with different triggers, and the trigger for the second one should be a diagnosed component failure rather than the approach of an exam date.

What the table deliberately does not include is an exam entry fee for a private candidate, because that varies by centre and series and must be confirmed with the centre directly rather than estimated here.

Why lessons run online to Downtown Dubai, stated plainly

IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition to UAE families over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the UAE. That is the position, stated before any benefit is claimed for it, because a family planning around a tutor arriving in Downtown Dubai should know within the first screen that this is not what is being sold.

The case for video delivery here is specific rather than general. A Downtown or Business Bay family choosing an in-home tutor is choosing from the pool willing to drive to that address at that hour, which in practice means a generalist. Choosing online widens the pool to a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches specialist who has taught Paper 3 repeatedly, and narrows the cost by removing the travel the in-home band exists to cover.

The practical gains are equally specific. A shared screen holds the working, so a student can revisit exactly how a proof was set out rather than relying on a photographed page. Sessions survive a sandstorm, a closed road and a school trip. A 19:30 slot is actually available, because nobody has to drive home afterwards. And a missed week can be rescheduled to a Friday without anyone crossing the city twice.

What video does not do is supervise. A student who needs someone physically present to stay at the desk needs that, and no amount of screen-sharing substitutes for it. If that is the real requirement, an in-home tutor from the local market is the honest answer, and the rate table above shows what that costs.

Where we tutor

Downtown Dubai and the central corridor

These are the communities a Downtown Dubai maths enquiry actually comes from. The relevant difference between them is not distance to a tutor but the time a school day ends and how long the road home takes.

Downtown Dubai

High-rise, no villa stock, and almost no in-building school provision. Students commute out to Al Wasl, Al Quoz or Nad Al Sheba campuses, which makes the return journey the constraint on any session before 16:30.

Business Bay

The densest enquiry source in this cluster. Parents working in the towers want a slot that starts after 19:00, and online delivery is the only format that reliably holds that time without a travel surcharge.

DIFC

Finance-sector households with long and unpredictable evenings. Diploma maths bookings here skew towards two shorter weekly sessions rather than one long one, because a single ninety-minute slot is easier to lose.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Home to several of the campuses Downtown students attend, so the traffic flow runs inbound in the morning and outbound at 15:00. A tutor driving in against that flow at 16:00 arrives late more often than not.

Al Jaddaf

Closer to Dubai Healthcare City and the Creek, with a different school set and an earlier finish at some campuses. Afternoon sessions from 15:45 are realistic here in a way they are not from Business Bay.

Culture Village

Low-rise and quiet, with families typically driving to Al Jaddaf or Deira campuses. Sessions here are commonly booked as a weekend pair, Friday evening and Sunday morning, around a six-day working week.

Meydan

Villa communities with a longer run to the central campuses. Diploma students in exam year frequently drop the mid-week in-person option here and move entirely to video, which removes roughly an hour of car time per session.

Nad Al Sheba

Mixed villa and townhouse stock with several IB and British campuses within reach. Enquiries cluster around MYP Years 4 and 5 rather than Diploma, which changes both the rate band and the session length.

Sobha Hartland

Newer, with a young family profile and a high proportion of mid-year arrivals. Maths enquiries here are often transition work from an American or CBSE system into MYP, which needs diagnosis before any package is sold.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Expanding fast, with school places opening alongside the residential phases. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven private schools across the emirate, four UK curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Downtown Dubai

Downtown Dubai, Business Bay and DIFC

No large campus sits inside Downtown itself, so the cluster is defined by where students travel to rather than where they live. Journey time at 15:00 is the practical limit on an afternoon session, and it is why the evening slots fill first in this catchment.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Al Safa
  • GEMS Wellington Primary School, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • Hartland International School, Sobha Hartland
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai, Sobha Hartland

Al Quoz, Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

The campuses Downtown and Business Bay students most often attend. Several run the IB continuum from Primary Years through to Diploma, which is why MYP maths enquiries from this corridor often become Diploma enquiries two years later with the same family.

  • GEMS Modern Academy, Nad Al Sheba
  • Kent College Dubai, Nad Al Sheba
  • Swiss International Scientific School, Al Jaddaf
  • Dubai Heights Academy, Al Barsha South
  • Safa British School, Al Safa
  • Repton Al Barsha

Schools are named here as context for the catchment Downtown Dubai families actually attend. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school or group is implied, and IB Gram holds none.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

Send the route, the level and what the last mock or report actually said. 'Applications and Interpretation Standard Level, lost method marks on Paper 2' is a brief a specialist can price and plan. 'Needs maths help' is a brief that costs a session to diagnose.

  2. 02

Confirm the route with the school first

One email to the Diploma coordinator confirms whether your child sits Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at which level. Doing this before booking is the single cheapest step on this page, and skipping it is the most common way a package is wasted.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, no card and no commitment

The first lesson costs nothing and requires no payment details. It is a working session on a real topic, not a sales call. You get written feedback naming the specific gap found, and you are free to stop there with nothing owed and no conditions attached.

  4. 04

Agree a block with an end date

We scope a fixed number of weeks against a named target, with a review at the halfway point. If the gap closes early the block ends early. Open-ended arrangements are how tutoring bills drift, and we would rather be measured against a target than retained by default.

  5. 05

Timetable it around the Downtown school run

Sessions are set on Gulf Standard Time around the campus your child actually attends, which for most Downtown and Business Bay families means 16:30 or 19:30 rather than a nominal 16:00. Ramadan timings move to post-Iftar, and mock weeks are paused rather than billed.

  6. 06

Review against the school's own assessment calendar

Progress is judged against the next school assessment, not against our own worksheets. After each session you receive written feedback naming the component worked on and what was set, so the halfway review is a comparison of evidence rather than an exchange of impressions.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate bands are published, with sources

Three of the six best-ranking pages for this query show no price at all, and one publishes a schema price that contradicts its own body copy. Every AED figure on this page carries the provider who published it and the month it was read, so you can check it rather than take it.

Priced by route, because the hours differ

Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level are different jobs taking different numbers of hours. A quote given before the route is known is a guess, and a guess in this market is usually rounded upwards.

The academic-honesty line is stated, not implied

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own exploration. IB Gram will not write, finish or restructure an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. Providers in this market sell completed IAs; that is a malpractice risk carried by your child.

No regulatory claims we cannot evidence

IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed or partnered by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit or UAE office. We explain what each body does and link its own pages instead.

Dates come from the awarding body, not from us

Cambridge and Pearson dates on this page carry their source. IB session dates are left to your Diploma coordinator and ibo.org, because an exam date is something a family acts on and we will not publish one we have not read at the source.

Scheduled for the commute that actually exists

A Downtown or Business Bay school day ending between 14:45 and 15:30 plus Sheikh Zayed Road traffic makes a 16:00 session a fiction. Slots are set at 16:30 and 19:30 because those hold, and online delivery is what makes the later one possible at all.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Downtown Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB maths tutor in Downtown Dubai cost per hour?+

Published market rates in Dubai put qualified one-to-one IB maths support online between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour, and specialist Higher Level support between AED 200 and AED 450 or above. Unitors publishes IB from AED 200, TutorChase AED 270, and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table gives AED 200 to AED 450 and above for specialists. An in-home tutor driving to a Downtown address bills AED 180 to AED 500 because travel sits inside the rate. Those are market figures as read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list. Our first lesson is free, and the rate after it depends on the route, level and number of weeks agreed.

Is Maths Applications and Interpretation cheaper to tutor than Analysis and Approaches?+

Not per hour, but often in total. The hourly band is the same because the tutor's qualification is the same. The difference is the number of hours. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level carries proof by induction, complex numbers in Cartesian and polar form, and a non-calculator Paper 1, all of which take repeated timed practice to secure. Applications and Interpretation is calculator-permitted throughout and rewards interpretation, which many students reach faster. The exception is Applications and Interpretation Higher Level, where graph theory and statistical inference are unfamiliar enough to absorb as many hours as the Analysis route. Confirm your child's route with the Diploma coordinator before estimating anything.

How many maths sessions a week do Downtown Dubai Diploma families usually start with?+

One sixty-minute session a week is the normal starting point during term, which Bestimate's 2026 Dubai estimates put at AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month at the mid band. Families move to two sessions a week in the final two terms, or earlier if a mock has exposed a specific component failure such as Paper 3. We would rather start at one and add a second when the evidence justifies it than sell two from the outset. Business Bay and DIFC households often prefer two shorter sessions over one long one, because a single ninety-minute evening slot is easier to lose to work.

Can a tutor help with the Mathematics Internal Assessment without crossing the line?+

Yes, and the line is worth stating precisely. A tutor may teach the mathematics your child's chosen topic requires, including content beyond the taught syllabus, read a draft and ask why each step follows, check that Criterion E is satisfied at the candidate's level, and hold the student to the school's own deadlines. A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure or edit the exploration into its final state, nor supply a pre-worked topic, dataset or set of graphs. Feedback arrives as questions and taught content, never as replacement prose. Some providers in this market sell completed Internal Assessments outright; that is an IB malpractice risk carried by your child.

Which IB maths paper carries the most risk for a Higher Level student?+

Paper 3. It is twenty per cent of the Higher Level grade and consists of two extended, unstructured investigations rather than the shorter questions students practise all year. Candidates lose marks there by running out of time, by failing to state a conjecture, and by never reaching the generalisation the question is built towards. Nothing in ordinary revision prepares a student for it, which is why it needs its own sessions rather than a mention inside general preparation. Standard Level students do not sit Paper 3, so for them the equivalent risk sits in the Internal Assessment, which is also twenty per cent and equally often left late.

Do tutoring rates in Dubai rise closer to the exam season?+

Specialist availability tightens rather than the advertised rate changing. From January onwards, tutors with Higher Level Paper 3 experience fill their timetables, and what a family actually loses is choice of tutor and choice of slot rather than money. The practical consequence is that a booking made in October gets the specialist at the ordinary band, and the same request in March gets whoever remains. If the budget is the constraint, the cheaper decision is an earlier start at the mid band rather than a later start at the specialist band, because earlier work needs fewer hours.

Why would online maths tutoring cost less than a tutor coming to Downtown Dubai?+

Because travel is inside the in-home rate whether the invoice names it or not. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one in Dubai at AED 180 to AED 350, and independent home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified tutor working online. The gap is the car. For a Downtown or Business Bay address, a tutor arriving after a 15:00 school finish is crossing Sheikh Zayed Road or Al Khail Road in peak traffic, and that hour is paid for by somebody. IB Gram delivers to UAE families over live video and does not offer home visits in Dubai, so that cost is simply absent.

Which schools do Downtown Dubai and Business Bay students actually attend?+

Almost none sit inside Downtown itself, which has no villa stock and very little school provision. Families commute out to campuses in Al Safa, Al Barsha, Al Jaddaf, Nad Al Sheba and Sobha Hartland, including Jumeirah English Speaking School, Dubai International Academy, Swiss International Scientific School, GEMS Modern Academy, Kent College Dubai and Hartland International School. Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25 offering 17 curricula. Named schools here are context for the catchment only; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement with any of them.

Is a cheaper university-student maths tutor a false economy?+

It depends entirely on the task. For arithmetic fluency, homework structure and MYP consolidation, a tutor at the AED 45 to AED 150 band does the job and the money is well spent. For diagnosing why a Higher Level candidate loses method marks on Paper 2, or for Paper 3 technique, it usually is a false economy: the sessions are pleasant, the homework gets done, and the component failure is untouched because nobody identified it. The expensive mistake is the reverse too, paying AED 450 for work a mid-band tutor would have handled. Match the band to the diagnosed task.

Does a private maths tutor in Dubai need a permit, and is it expensive?+

A permit is required and it is free. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include school-registered teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published, so any specific amount you see quoted is unverified.

What does the free trial maths lesson include, and what are the conditions?+

It is a full one-to-one session on a real topic from your child's current syllabus, delivered over live video, with written feedback afterwards naming the specific gap found. No card details are taken and nothing is owed if you stop there. The only condition is that we need the route and level before it starts, so the tutor matched is the right one: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard. One trial per student. If the match is wrong we will say so and offer a different tutor rather than proceed.

Does Higher Level maths matter for UAE university applications?+

It matters for the programme rather than the country. Engineering, physics, mathematics and quantitative economics degrees commonly expect Analysis and Approaches, frequently at Higher Level, and state so in their entry requirements. Business, psychology and design programmes generally accept Applications and Interpretation. Check the named programme's own page at the university your child is applying to, because the requirement is set departmentally. Separately, UAE Ministry of Education equivalency is its own process with its own criteria; we will not publish an IB points threshold for it, because that figure has not been verified on a Ministry source. Confirm it on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority.

What should I send when asking for an IB maths tutoring quote?+

Five things make a quote accurate rather than approximate: the route and level, the school and year group, the most recent mock or report grade with the component breakdown if you have it, the date of the next school assessment, and the days and times that genuinely work after the school run. With those, a specialist can tell you how many hours the gap looks like and which band of tutor it needs. Without them, any figure quoted is a placeholder that will be revised upwards once the real position becomes clear in the first session.

Can sessions move during Ramadan or around school holidays?+

Yes. Ramadan sessions commonly move to post-Iftar timing, and families in Downtown Dubai and Business Bay often reduce to one session a week during that period and add it back afterwards. Summer and half-term work differently: with no school assessments running, the useful work is syllabus consolidation or Internal Assessment scoping rather than exam technique, and sessions can be longer because there is no school day in front of them. We pause rather than bill through mock weeks, and a block paused for travel resumes at the same rate.

What happens if no Higher Level maths specialist is free when we enquire?+

We say so, and we say how long it is likely to be. There is no reason to pretend a scarce match is available, because the free trial would expose it immediately. In practice there are three honest options: wait for the named specialist, start with a mid-band tutor on the consolidation work that is needed anyway and transfer later, or decline and use the rate table on this page to brief someone else. Scarcity is concentrated in Higher Level Analysis and Approaches between January and the May session, which is the argument for booking earlier rather than the argument for booking now.

Start with the route, then the rate

If you are weighing up an IB maths tutor in Downtown Dubai, two steps come before any payment. Confirm with your child's Diploma coordinator whether the route is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at which level. Then match the band on this page to the task you have actually diagnosed rather than to the subject name. The first lesson with us is free, requires no card and comes with written feedback naming the gap we find, so you can judge the match on evidence. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around a Downtown school run that rarely clears before 16:30.
