IB Home Tutor in Downtown Dubai

Hiring an IB home tutor in Downtown Dubai means paying for two things at once, and only one of them is teaching. Published visit rates here run AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, and in a district of towers with security desks, visitor registration and valet-only drop-off, the travel component is larger than almost anywhere in the city. This page prices both products honestly and converts the whole thing into the unit that matters: cost per Diploma point. Lessons are one-to-one online.

  • Both products priced: the in-home visit and one-to-one online, with sources
  • Cost per Diploma point compared across routes, including the core
  • Downtown tower access treated as a real cost rather than a detail
  • No hour count quoted before a diagnostic, because that number would be invented

IB & IGCSE in Downtown Dubai

Two products, one search phrase, very different prices

The phrase you typed describes two things. The first is a person who drives to your tower, parks, registers at a security desk, waits for a lift and teaches in your living room. The Dubai market prices that at AED 180 to 350 an hour according to Bestimate, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200 to 500, travel included, and monthly packages published at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. The second is one-to-one teaching delivered into your home over live video, which published rates put at AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor.

IB Gram sells the second one. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. That is stated in the second paragraph rather than buried, because the alternative is a family discovering it after a phone call. What we provide is the same hour of teaching, reaching the same apartment, with the paper, the criteria and the student's own draft shared on screen between tutor and student.

What makes the price difference unusually stark in Downtown Dubai is the access overhead, which is real and specific rather than a rhetorical device. This is a district of towers rather than villas. A visiting tutor registers with a security desk, some buildings require resident authorisation for each visit, visitor parking is limited or valet-only at several addresses, and the lift journey in a tall tower is not trivial at six in the evening. The exits off Sheikh Zayed Road into the Financial Centre Road and Boulevard approaches are among the slowest in the city at that hour, and during major Downtown events the approach roads are restricted outright.

None of that improves or degrades the teaching. It simply means that a meaningful share of what the in-home premium buys in this particular district is the logistics of arriving, and the premium is being paid every week. For a Diploma family that money has alternative uses inside the same subject, which is what the rest of this page is about: converting tutoring spend into the only unit that counts for a Diploma student, which is points.

That unit is the whole argument here. Six subjects graded 1 to 7 give 42, and the Extended Essay with Theory of Knowledge add up to three more through a published matrix, giving 45. The Diploma requires 24 points plus the core requirements. A family deciding where to spend should know which route to a point is cheapest, and the answer is reliably not the one most families buy. Confirm all structural detail with your school's Diploma coordinator, and note that no International Baccalaureate examination date appears here, because none in this project has been confirmed from the IB's own site.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Diploma spending decision depends on the stage and on which component is costing points. These are the four that matter in Downtown Dubai households.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Programme Year One

The cheapest year to buy help in, because content taught properly now does not need re-teaching later and a mid-market rate covers it. It is also where the Extended Essay research question is chosen, which is the single most consequential decision in the core and the one most often made casually. A DP1 hour is worth more than a DP2 hour and costs less.

Downtown and the central corridor feed campuses in several directions, from Sobha Hartland and Nad Al Sheba to Al Jaddaf and Al Quoz, running both the Diploma and A Level pathways. A DP1 cohort here commonly mixes students arriving from the Middle Years Programme and from IGCSE, with opposite weaknesses.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

Diploma Programme Year Two

Internal Assessment deadlines, the Extended Essay submission, the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition, and then the examinations, with the components colliding in the same weeks. Spending here should be concentrated into blocks timed to those deadlines rather than spread as a weekly retainer, which pays for quiet months and runs short in busy ones.

Internal school deadlines arrive well before anything the International Baccalaureate sets and are what actually binds a term. Your Diploma coordinator publishes them, and a plan built from that list is materially cheaper than one built on a general assumption about when the year gets difficult.

COREAcross DP1 and DP2

The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

Up to three points from a published matrix combining the two grades, each awarded A to E. The Extended Essay is marked out of 34 across five criteria, with critical thinking carrying 12 of them. Theory of Knowledge is assessed through an exhibition and an essay. A grade E in either is a failing condition regardless of the subject total.

This is where the cheapest points in the Diploma sit, and where Downtown families most often spend nothing. The step from a C to a B in the Extended Essay is usually a smaller piece of work than moving a Higher Level subject grade, and it is worth the same or more in the matrix.

CASAcross DP1 and DP2

Creativity, Activity, Service

Not graded and worth no points, but a completion requirement: the Diploma is not awarded without it. Worth naming on a cost page because it consumes time rather than money, and because the time it consumes is the time a Downtown student would otherwise spend on an Internal Assessment. Sequencing it early is free and saves a crowded DP2.

Dubai students often have rich activity portfolios already, through school and community commitments, and the administrative work of recording and reflecting on them is what gets left late. That is a scheduling problem rather than a tutoring one, and no tutoring budget should be spent on it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Diploma student has six subjects and a finite budget. These are the ones Downtown families most often ask about, with a note on whether tutoring them is usually good value.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Usually good value, because the weaknesses are specific and diagnosable. At Higher Level, Paper 3 structured problems are the least-practised component and respond quickly to short deliberate work. At Standard Level, the no-calculator paper exposes algebraic fluency that no amount of content revision addresses.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Good value where the problem is technology use or interpretation rather than content. Marks go on producing a correct figure without saying what was entered or what the statistic means in context. That is a habit, which makes it cheap to fix relative to teaching a new topic.

Physics

HL and SL

Good value in fields and electricity, which are the costliest areas to repair and the ones an under-powered pre-16 route leaves thin. Poor value in mechanics for most students, which they largely met before 16 and can revise from past papers without paying a specialist rate for it.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Good value if the diagnosis finds the earliest broken step rather than the latest topic. Chemistry has the longest chain of dependent calculations of the three sciences, so sessions on buffers for a student with hesitant mole handling are competent and wasted. Organic mechanisms also respond well to short, drawing-led work.

Biology

HL and SL

Often poor value for content and good value for command terms. The subject is high-volume and most students can read more; what they cannot do unaided is tell outline from describe from explain from evaluate, each of which has a different mark allocation and a different expected answer structure.

Economics

HL and SL

Reliably good value, because the marks sit in a template: diagram accuracy, an explained shift, a stated consequence and a judgement. At Higher Level, Paper 3 is quantitative and the most under-prepared component in the subject. A short block on structure usually produces more than a term of content work.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Mixed. Paper 1 guided analysis of an unseen text responds well to a method taught over a few sessions. The comparative essay and the Individual Oral improve more slowly, because they rest on reading habits rather than on a technique, and a family should expect a longer timescale there.

History

HL and SL

Good value on Paper 1, where source evaluation for origin, purpose, value and limitation follows a teachable structure that separates grades. The Higher Level regional option in Paper 3 is content-heavy and expensive to repair late, so it belongs in DP1 spending rather than DP2.

Psychology

HL and SL

Good value in question technique. Students know their named studies and lose marks by describing them without linking to the question's demand, and by omitting the critical-thinking element in extended responses. Both are structural fixes rather than content gaps, which makes them cheap relative to their effect.

The Extended Essay

Compulsory core

The cheapest points in the Diploma and the component Downtown families most often leave unsupported. Marked out of 34, with critical thinking worth 12. Most lost marks trace to a research question too broad to answer in 4,000 words, which is a DP1 decision with DP2 consequences and costs one session to test properly.

Theory of Knowledge

Compulsory core

Assessed through an exhibition of three objects with commentaries and an essay on a prescribed title, each marked out of 10. Good value for a short block, because students write abstractly about knowledge in general where the assessment rewards specific grounded examples and a visible line of argument.

Internal Assessments generally

Every subject

The best value across the whole programme, whichever subject they sit in. A fifth to a third of a subject grade, produced over months with teacher feedback available and no clock running. Every mark lost there was available under near-perfect conditions, which makes it the cheapest place in any subject to buy points.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four purchases, ordered by what each costs per Diploma point rather than by what families usually buy. All are one-to-one over live video.

Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge block

The cheapest points available and the least commonly bought. Up to three points sit in the core matrix, and a step from a C to a B in the Extended Essay is a smaller piece of work than moving a Higher Level subject grade. Four to six sessions, weighted to the research question in DP1 and the critical-thinking criterion afterwards.

  • Research question tested for answerability within 4,000 words before the research starts
  • Criterion C, critical thinking, treated as the 12 marks of 34 that it is
  • Theory of Knowledge grounded in specific examples rather than abstractions
  • The student writes every word; the tutor explains criteria and marks the draft

Internal Assessment coaching, any subject

A fifth to a third of a subject grade, produced over months with feedback available and no clock running. The criteria are published and the student can learn to self-assess against them. This is the best-value block in any Diploma subject and the one most often left to the school alone.

  • Criteria read with the student so they can grade their own draft
  • Research question or topic framing settled before the work begins
  • Weighted to the evaluation criterion, which is thin in nearly every first draft
  • Timed to the school's internal deadlines, not to a general programme timeline

Two-subject technique block

Four to six sessions each in two subjects, chosen by which marks sit nearest a grade boundary rather than by which subject worries the family most. Command terms, explained working, pacing and the specific question types that cost marks. Diagnosed from marked scripts so the money follows the evidence.

  • Two subjects, not five, which is the single commonest overspend in DP2
  • Starts from marked scripts, with lost marks split by cause
  • Full timed sections every session once teaching is complete
  • A recurring-error list that visibly empties before the examinations

Weekly DP1 hour in one subject

The cheapest content hour on the whole programme, at a mid-market rather than specialist rate, in the year when nothing is yet at stake. Mathematical fluency, the costly science areas, and the habit of attempting past-paper questions rather than rereading notes. Families who buy this rarely need the expensive version later.

  • 60 minutes weekly in Gulf Standard Time, at a qualified rather than premium rate
  • Aimed at the areas that are most expensive to repair later
  • Past-paper questions from the first session, marked honestly
  • Ends when the subject is secure, rather than continuing by default

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Downtown Dubai

01

What an IB home tutor in Downtown Dubai actually costs, both versions

  • In-home published at AED 180-350 (Bestimate) and AED 200-500 (independent home tutors)
  • Qualified online published at AED 150-300; specialists at AED 200-450+
  • The in-home band overlaps the specialist online band almost entirely
  • A bounded selection pool is what the travel premium is actually buying

Here is the published market, every figure credited to the provider that published it and read in October 2026, none of it IB Gram's price list. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 350 an hour by Bestimate, and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, with travel inside the figure. Monthly in-home packages in this market are published at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits.

On the online side, budget and university-student tutoring runs roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing International Baccalaureate from AED 200. Specialists across the International Baccalaureate, IGCSE and A Level run AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED publishing AED 650. Published monthly online packages include AED 799 for eight sessions.

Read across those two sets and the structural point becomes visible. The published in-home band substantially overlaps the specialist online band, which means a family paying an in-home rate is frequently paying specialist money for a tutor selected from whoever will travel to their tower. That is not a criticism of any individual; it is what happens when the selection pool is bounded by a drive. For a Higher Level Diploma subject, where the scarce thing is somebody who has taught that specific component, the bounded pool is the expensive part of the arrangement.

The sensible way to use these numbers is not to decide which product is better in general. It is to decide what you are buying. If your child genuinely will not engage with a screen, the in-home premium is buying something real and you should pay it. If the requirement is a Higher Level physics specialist or somebody who has marked an Extended Essay to the criteria, the premium is buying travel, and the same money spent online buys a wider selection plus the ability to add sessions in the weeks before a deadline.

02

Why the access overhead is larger here than in most districts

This is not atmosphere, it is a cost component, and in Downtown Dubai it is unusually large. The district is towers rather than villas. A visiting tutor has to reach the building, find somewhere to leave a vehicle, register at a security desk, in some buildings be authorised by the resident for that specific visit, and then travel up a tall tower at the busiest hour of its day. Each of those steps is small and the sum of them is not.

The approach is the first part. The exits off Sheikh Zayed Road onto the Financial Centre Road and the Boulevard approaches are among the slowest in the city between five and seven, and Dubai Mall traffic runs into them. During major Downtown events the approach roads are restricted outright, which in practice means a cancelled or relocated session rather than a late one. A family with a fixed weekly in-person appointment in this district will lose or move several of them a year for reasons nobody controls.

The second part is the building. Visitor parking in Downtown towers is limited, and at several addresses the practical option is valet, which adds both time and cost. Security registration varies by building and can require the resident to be present or to have pre-authorised the visit. Lift waiting in a fully occupied tower at six in the evening is genuinely several minutes. None of this is exotic; it is simply the ordinary texture of visiting a Downtown apartment on a weekday evening.

The honest conclusion is narrow. These overheads do not make in-home tutoring bad. They make the travel share of an in-home rate larger in this district than in a villa community, which matters because a family paying AED 350 an hour is entitled to know what proportion of it is teaching. An online session has none of these overheads, starts at the stated minute, and can be moved to a different evening without anybody rearranging a route across the city.

03

Cost per Diploma point, by route

This is the table that should govern a Diploma spending decision and that nobody publishes. Six subjects graded 1 to 7 give 42 points, and the Extended Essay with Theory of Knowledge add up to three more through a published matrix, giving 45. The Diploma requires 24 points plus the core requirements, and a grade E in either core component is a failing condition. So a point is a point, whichever component it comes from, and the components cost wildly different amounts to move.

The cheapest routes are the core and the Internal Assessments, and the reason is the same in both cases: the work is produced over months with feedback available and no clock running, and the criteria are published. A student who has never read the Extended Essay criteria is unlikely to be writing to them. Reading them with a tutor for a few sessions, testing the research question and attacking the critical-thinking criterion is a small, cheap, bounded intervention, and the matrix pays up to three points for it.

The most expensive route is moving a Higher Level subject grade late. Grade boundaries at the top of a Higher Level subject are narrow precisely because the cohort is strong, and the work required is specialist, at AED 200 to 450 an hour or more, over a sustained period. It is sometimes the right purchase, particularly when a university offer rests on a specific subject grade. It is rarely the cheapest available point, which is a different question from whether it is necessary.

The table also contains the route families most often buy, which is weekly general support across several subjects. That route produces a reassuring arrangement and the vaguest relationship to points of anything on the list, because the hours are distributed by anxiety rather than by where marks sit. Nothing on this page argues against spending on tutoring. It argues for spending it in the order the table suggests rather than the order worry suggests.

04

Six subjects, one budget: the portfolio decision

A Diploma student has six subjects and a family has one budget, which makes this a portfolio problem rather than a subject problem. The most common and most expensive error in DP2 is tutoring five subjects eight weeks before the examinations, because the hours available per subject fall below the level at which anything changes. A student tutored in five subjects eight weeks out is being tutored in none of them.

Choosing which two takes evidence rather than instinct, and the evidence is in marked scripts. Marks sitting close to a grade boundary are cheap to move; marks a band away are not. A subject where the losses are concentrated in method, command terms and timing is cheap; a subject where whole questions are unanswered is not. Those two tests, applied to two or three marked papers, settle the portfolio question in half an hour at a kitchen table and cost nothing.

The second portfolio insight is that the core belongs in the budget alongside the subjects, not outside it. Three points is the difference between a 38 and a 41, which is frequently the difference between two university offers. Yet the core is treated as administrative, supervised by the school, and funded by nobody. Putting a four-session Extended Essay block into the same budget as a subject block is the single most common improvement we suggest to Downtown families.

The third is that Internal Assessments cut across all six subjects and are all produced in favourable conditions. A family that does nothing else should make sure every Internal Assessment is written against its published criteria, because those marks are available with feedback and no time pressure. The table above ranks this high for exactly that reason, and it is uncomfortable to notice how often the hours go instead into examination revision for a component worth less.

What the in-home premium buys, honestly assessed

It would be easy to write this section as an argument. It is more useful as an inventory, because some of what the premium buys is real and a family deciding between products deserves to see both columns rather than one. The published premium, on Dubai figures read in October 2026, is the gap between AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor and AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit with travel included.

What it genuinely buys: a person in the room, which matters for a student who will not engage with a screen and for a family that wants visible adult presence during a session. A fixed physical appointment, which some households find easier to protect than a video call. No dependence on a connection. And for a younger sibling in the same house, a single visit can sometimes serve two students consecutively, which changes the arithmetic materially.

What it does not buy: a wider selection of tutors, because the pool is bounded by who will drive to your address. Flexible rescheduling, because moving a session means moving a route across the city. The ability to double the hours for the eight weeks before an assessment and then stop, which is the shape most Diploma families actually need. And in Downtown specifically, it does not buy punctuality, because the approach roads and the tower access are outside anybody's control at six in the evening.

Set against that, what the online format buys is specific and short: the whole tutor pool rather than the drivable subset, sessions that start at the stated minute, hours that flex up and down with the deadline calendar, and a shared screen on which a paper, a mark scheme and a draft can sit side by side. For Internal Assessment and Extended Essay work, where the document is the subject of the session, that last point is a practical advantage rather than a consolation.

Tutoring cost in the context of a Downtown household

  • Dubai had 387,441 private school students across 227 schools in 2024-25
  • The International Baccalaureate accounts for 7% of Dubai private enrolment
  • KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase for the 2026-27 academic year
  • A defined block is a number you can decide on; a weekly arrangement is rarely totalled
  • Write down rate times length times weeks times subjects before agreeing anything

A tutoring figure means little in isolation, so here is some context from the emirate's own numbers. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7% of enrolment and the UK curriculum for 37%. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after enrolment rose 6% during 2025-26.

On fees, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. For a Downtown family already committed to private fees, a frozen year is the moment a defined tutoring block becomes affordable without a new conversation about the household budget.

The relevant comparison inside that is between a defined block and an open arrangement. Four to six sessions on an Extended Essay, at published qualified rates of AED 150 to 300 an hour, is a bounded, one-off number that a family can decide on in an evening. A weekly in-home arrangement at AED 350 an hour across a Diploma year is a different order of commitment, and it is usually entered into without the total ever being written down.

So write it down. Multiply the rate by the session length, by the number of weeks, by the number of subjects, and look at the figure. Then compare it to the table earlier on this page, which ranks routes to a Diploma point by cost. Families who do that arithmetic almost always rearrange their spending, usually towards the core and the Internal Assessments and away from broad weekly support. That is the single most useful thing this page can produce.

07

Academic honesty, the permit question and our status

A page about money has to cover the things that should not be bought at any price. Research for this project found a provider selling completed Internal Assessments outright at a published figure. That is not tutoring. It is an academic-integrity breach that triggers malpractice proceedings against the student rather than the seller, and a family buying it is paying for a risk to their child's entire Diploma.

The legitimate boundary is easy to apply. A tutor may teach content, explain assessment criteria, model how a question type is answered, discuss a student's own research question, point out where an argument is missing, mark the student's own draft against published criteria, and coach planning and revision. A workable test is whether your child's own school supervisor could do the same thing openly in a scheduled meeting.

A tutor may not write, draft or complete any part of an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or exhibition commentary, dictate sentences for transcription, or edit text until the words stop being the student's. Nor may anybody legitimately distribute International Baccalaureate subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary documents as downloads, because those are the IB's copyright. We reference them and link to the official source.

On status and on the law: IB Gram is not approved, accredited, certified or licensed by the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge, Pearson, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education, and claims none of those relationships. We run no office, centre or branch in Downtown Dubai or anywhere in the UAE. Private tutoring here is regulated by permit: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published fine schedule.

Booking, and the arithmetic we will do with you

  • Send a marked script, a draft Internal Assessment, or the Extended Essay research question
  • Free trial on that material, with a written note of the smallest effective block
  • We will total the spend with you against the routes-to-a-point table
  • No hour count before the diagnostic, because that number would be invented
  • Coverage limits named with a date rather than discovered after booking

Send the subject, the level, the component, and whichever of these you have: a marked script, a draft Internal Assessment, or the Extended Essay research question. That last one is often the most valuable document in a DP1 household, because a question too broad to answer in 4,000 words caps the whole essay and the fix takes one session.

The first session is free and is spent on that real material with the student working. You then get a short written note: the component, the criterion or the cause of the lost marks, the smallest effective block, and a session count. We do not quote an hour count before that, because a figure produced before anybody has seen the evidence is invented, and it is usually invented upward. If the answer is four sessions on the Extended Essay rather than a term of physics, the note will say that.

We will also, if you want it, do the arithmetic with you: rate times session length times weeks times subjects, set against the routes-to-a-point table on this page. It is a five-minute exercise and it changes most families' plans, usually towards the core and the Internal Assessments. We do it knowing it frequently reduces the size of the booking, because a family that spends well comes back and a family that spends badly does not.

Two practical limits. Higher Level specialists for a specific weekend hour are among the thinner combinations we staff, and we will give you a date rather than take a booking and hope. And if no UAE-based tutor is free for your combination, we will say whether a tutor based elsewhere can cover your hour in Gulf Standard Time, and you may decline. IB Gram runs no home visits in Dubai; every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, and during Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar slots for families who want them there.

In this corridor the relevant variable is access: how long it takes a person to reach a door, which is what the in-home premium is partly buying. These are the communities around Downtown.

Downtown Dubai

Towers around the Burj Khalifa district and the Boulevard. Security registration, limited or valet-only visitor parking and real lift time in tall buildings, with approach roads restricted during major events.

Business Bay

Immediately south, dense and still building out. Canal-side towers with similar access overheads and a notoriously slow single-lane exit onto the main road at the hour a session would start.

DIFC

North-east across Sheikh Zayed Road, largely commercial with residential towers. Visitor access is tighter than in most residential districts because the buildings are managed as offices.

Sobha Hartland

East across the creek extension, holding two of the larger campuses this corridor feeds. Villa and tower mix, and the easiest of these communities for a visitor to reach a door.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Further along the creek, with a large campus nearby and apartment living. Access is simpler than Downtown but the drive in from the centre at six o'clock is not.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

South-east, villa communities with several well-known campuses. Longer drives, easier arrivals, and the point in this corridor where a visit premium starts buying distance rather than access.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Villa and townhouse developments between Meydan and Al Quoz, still filling in, with few local subject specialists at Diploma level and long internal roads.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

West of Downtown, mixed residential and light industrial. Heavy cross-traffic in both directions at pickup and the least predictable arrival times in the corridor.

Zabeel and Al Satwa

North of Downtown towards the old city. Older, denser and closer in, which shortens a drive but does not help with the Sheikh Zayed Road crossing at the wrong hour.

Jumeirah 1 and Al Safa

Along the coast west of Downtown, villa communities feeding several campuses. Easy arrivals and long drives, which is the opposite trade from Downtown itself.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Downtown Dubai

Sobha Hartland and the creek corridor

The nearest cluster of larger campuses to Downtown, running the Diploma alongside other pathways. Diploma cohorts here are substantial, which means school support is generally strong and the sensible purchase is often core support or Internal Assessment coaching rather than subject content teaching.

  • Hartland International School
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Horizon International School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School

Meydan, Nad Al Sheba and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

South-east of Downtown, with several well-established campuses on a mix of curricula. Families here face longer drives and simpler arrivals, which is the reverse of the Downtown trade, and the in-home premium in this direction is mostly buying distance rather than tower access.

  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • Safa British School

The coastal and Festival City campuses

The wider ring this corridor draws on, reached in twenty to forty minutes depending on the hour and the direction. Several run the Diploma, and students transfer between cohorts mid-course, which is manageable in DP1 and a genuine sequencing problem for the core components in DP2.

  • Deira International School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • Clarion School
  • Safa British School

Schools are named to describe the Downtown Dubai and central-corridor education market and the programmes those campuses run. IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or commercial relationship with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the document, not the worry

A marked script, a draft Internal Assessment or an Extended Essay research question answers in two minutes what a conversation takes twenty to establish. The research question in particular is worth sending early, because one too broad to answer in 4,000 words caps the whole essay and the fix is a single session in DP1.

  2. 02

Total the spend before agreeing it

Rate, times session length, times weeks, times number of subjects. Most families have never written that figure down, which is how a weekly in-home arrangement at the top of the published band becomes a commitment nobody decided on. We will do the arithmetic with you even though it usually shrinks the booking.

  3. 03

    Choose subjects from marked scripts

Marks within a few of a boundary are cheap to move; a band is a term of work. Losses concentrated in method and command terms are cheap; whole unanswered questions are not. Two marked papers and half an hour settle the portfolio question, and under deadline pressure the answer is two subjects rather than five.

  4. 04

Put the core in the same budget

Three points sit in the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge matrix, which is the difference between a 38 and a 41 and often between two offers. Yet the core is treated as administrative and funded by nobody. A four-session core block alongside a subject block is the most common improvement we suggest.

  5. 05

Free diagnostic, then a written note

The first session is unpaid and spent on the student's own material with them working rather than watching. The note names the component, the criterion or the cause, the smallest effective block and a session count. You read it before committing anything, and you are welcome to take it to another provider.

  6. 06

    Blocks that end on evidence

Progress is measured on the next thing the school marks. If the component is now secure, we say so and the block finishes rather than renewing. Reviews are written and short, so there is a record rather than a recollection, and an arrangement that never recommends its own conclusion is selling reassurance.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Both products priced, with sources

The in-home visit and one-to-one online are set out side by side with the published Dubai figures and the provider that published each one, dated to October 2026. The bands overlap almost entirely, which means the honest deciding factor is the tutor pool rather than the price, and we say so rather than implying otherwise.

Cost per Diploma point, not per hour

A point is a point whichever component produces it, and the components cost very different amounts to move. The routes table ranks them, from Extended Essay criteria work at the cheap end to moving a Higher Level grade late at the expensive end, so a family can spend in that order rather than in order of worry.

The Downtown access overhead counted

Approach roads off Sheikh Zayed Road, limited or valet-only visitor parking, security registration and real lift time in tall towers. These are a cost component rather than atmosphere, and a family paying AED 350 an hour is entitled to know what share of it is arriving rather than teaching.

The core funded like a subject

Up to three points sit in the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge matrix and most Downtown families spend nothing on either. A step from C to B in the Extended Essay is usually a smaller piece of work than moving a Higher Level grade and is worth the same or more in the matrix.

Two subjects under deadline pressure, not five

Eight weeks out, hours split across five subjects fall below the level at which anything changes. We choose two from marked scripts, on distance to the boundary and cause of the lost marks, and we will say so even when the larger booking was the one you came for.

No unverified dates and no assessed work produced

The International Baccalaureate's site blocks automated access, so no session or results date in this project is confirmed and none appears here. Core and Internal Assessment support is criteria teaching, questioning and marking the student's own draft; writing any part of it is malpractice that falls on your child.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Downtown Dubai: your questions answered

What does an IB home tutor in Downtown Dubai cost?+

The published Dubai in-home band, read in October 2026, is AED 180 to 350 an hour from Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 for independent home tutors, with travel inside the figure, plus monthly in-home packages published at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. Qualified one-to-one online subject tutors are published at AED 150 to 300, and specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more. Those bands overlap heavily, which means price is rarely the honest deciding factor. None of these figures is IB Gram's price.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to apartments in Downtown Dubai?+

No. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video, with the paper, the published criteria and the student's own draft shared on screen between tutor and student. We state this before any booking rather than after a call, because the phrase families search is the phrase families search and you deserve to know what arrives. The exchange is a wider tutor pool and sessions that start at the stated minute.

Why is the travel premium larger in Downtown than elsewhere?+

Because the district is towers rather than villas and the access steps add up. A visiting tutor negotiates the approach off Sheikh Zayed Road, which is among the slowest in the city between five and seven, finds limited or valet-only visitor parking, registers at a security desk that in some buildings requires resident authorisation per visit, and then waits for a lift in a fully occupied tall tower at its busiest hour. During major Downtown events the approach roads are restricted outright, which means a moved session rather than a late one.

What does the in-home premium genuinely buy?+

Four real things. A person in the room, which matters for a student who will not engage with a screen. A fixed physical appointment, which some households protect more easily than a video call. Independence from a connection. And, where two siblings are in the same house, one visit can sometimes serve both consecutively, which changes the arithmetic materially. What it does not buy is a wider tutor pool, flexible rescheduling, or the ability to double hours for eight weeks before a deadline and then stop.

What is the cheapest way to gain a Diploma point?+

Almost always the core. Up to three points sit in the published matrix combining the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge grades, the Extended Essay is marked out of 34 with critical thinking carrying 12 of those marks, and both components are produced over months with feedback available and no clock running. A step from a C to a B in the Extended Essay is usually a smaller piece of work than moving a Higher Level subject grade, and it is worth the same or more. Most families spend nothing here.

Why is an Internal Assessment such good value to support?+

Because it is worth a fifth to a third of a subject grade and is produced under near-perfect conditions: months of time, teacher feedback available, published criteria, and no examination clock. Every mark lost there was available in ideal circumstances and was given away. A student who has never read the criteria for their own Internal Assessment is unlikely to be writing to them, and four to six sessions reading them, testing the framing and strengthening the evaluation is a bounded, cheap, measurable intervention.

Should we tutor all six Diploma subjects before the exams?+

No, and this is the most expensive common error in the second Diploma year. Hours split across five or six subjects fall below the level at which anything changes, so a student tutored in five subjects eight weeks out is effectively tutored in none. Choose two, using marked scripts: fund the subjects where marks sit within a few of a boundary and where losses are concentrated in method, command terms and timing rather than in whole unanswered questions.

How do I decide which two subjects to fund?+

Two tests, applied to two or three marked papers at a kitchen table. First, distance to the boundary: marks within a few of the next grade are cheap to move, a band away is a term of work. Second, cause of the lost marks: concentrated in method, working, command terms and timing means a technique block of four to six sessions, whereas whole unanswered questions mean a content gap and a longer, costlier plan. Half an hour with the scripts settles it and costs nothing.

Is moving a Higher Level grade worth paying specialist rates for?+

Sometimes, and necessity is a different question from efficiency. If a university offer rests on a specific Higher Level subject grade, fund it even at the published specialist band of AED 200 to 450 an hour or more, because no other point substitutes for that one. If the goal is a higher total rather than a named grade, it is rarely the cheapest available point: boundaries near the top of a Higher Level subject are narrow because the cohort is strong, and the work is sustained rather than short.

What should we write down before agreeing to weekly tutoring?+

The total. Rate, times session length, times number of weeks, times number of subjects. Most families never produce that figure, which is how a weekly in-home arrangement at the top of the published band becomes a commitment nobody consciously made. Then compare it against the routes-to-a-point ranking: core work and Internal Assessment coaching at the cheap end, a two-subject technique block next, and moving a Higher Level grade late at the expensive end. Most plans get rearranged after that exercise.

Does the Dubai school fee freeze affect this decision?+

It makes a defined block easier to fund. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. For a household already committed to private fees, a frozen year is a reasonable moment to pay for a bounded Extended Essay or Internal Assessment block, and a poor moment to start an open-ended weekly arrangement.

Which Diploma components do Downtown families most often leave unfunded?+

The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, almost without exception, followed by the Internal Assessments. All three are supervised by the school, produced over months, and treated as administration rather than as marks. Together they represent the cheapest points available anywhere in the programme: three from the core matrix, plus a fifth to a third of each subject grade from the Internal Assessments. Meanwhile the hours go into examination revision for components with less available upside per dirham.

How far can paid help on an Extended Essay legitimately go?+

Yes, within firm limits. A tutor may explain the criteria, test whether the research question can be answered within 4,000 words, discuss the student's own argument, point out where an essay reports rather than evaluates, and mark the student's own draft against the published criteria. A tutor may not write, restructure the prose, or supply the argument that the critical-thinking criterion exists to reward. The school holds the supervisor, the student declares authenticity, and a breach is a malpractice finding against your child.

When should Downtown Diploma sessions run?+

Most families in this corridor settle on 17:30 or 18:00 on a weekday, with Extended Essay and Internal Assessment work moving to weekend mornings, which suits sustained writing better than an evening after a full school day. Students travel outward to campuses in several directions, from the creek corridor to Nad Al Sheba, so arrival times vary more than the distances suggest. During Ramadan, sessions move to post-Iftar slots for families who want them there, with the same tutor keeping the same student.

What happens if you cannot staff the subject and slot we want?+

We tell you, with a date, rather than taking the booking and hoping. Higher Level specialists for a specific weekend hour are among the thinner combinations we staff, and demand concentrates in the second term when Internal Assessment deadlines arrive together across subjects. If no UAE-based tutor is free for your combination, we will say whether a tutor based elsewhere can cover your hour in Gulf Standard Time, and you are free to decline. No competitor researched for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

Convert the spend into points before you commit it

The useful question is not what an hour costs. It is what a Diploma point costs by each available route, and the answer is reliably not the route most families buy. Up to three points sit in the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge matrix, produced over months with the criteria published and feedback available. A fifth to a third of every subject grade sits in an Internal Assessment under the same favourable conditions. Both are cheaper than moving a Higher Level grade in the final term, and both are usually funded by nobody. Send us a marked script, a draft, or just your child's Extended Essay research question, and the free trial will come back with the smallest effective block and a written session count. Lessons are one-to-one online, in Gulf Standard Time.
