IGCSE Home Tutor in Downtown Dubai

Parents searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Downtown Dubai are usually trying to settle one question first: what does this cost, and what is the money buying. This page answers that with published AED figures and their sources, the travel premium an in-home visit carries in a tower district, and the three places Downtown Dubai families most often lose money. IB Gram delivers IGCSE support as one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the fee pays for teaching hours instead of a drive along Sheikh Zayed Road.

  • Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it
  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 named, not vaguely implied
  • Tutors teach and give feedback; written work stays the student's own

IB & IGCSE in Downtown Dubai

The price of IGCSE tuition in Downtown Dubai, stated plainly

Start with the monthly number rather than the hourly one, because that is the figure that decides whether tutoring lasts a term or a fortnight. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 for a qualified subject tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages advertised in this market run from about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions up to AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. A Downtown household comparing those two lines is mostly comparing travel, not teaching.

The hourly bands behind those monthly totals are easy to find once you look. EdFlik lists tuition from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to 52, both online and both staffed in large part by university-student tutors. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. BartyED sits at AED 650 for its premium named tutors. In-home one-to-one visits across Dubai are quoted between AED 180 and 500 depending on distance and subject. Those are market rates from other providers, not an IB Gram price list.

Downtown Dubai makes the travel line unusually expensive. The district is dense, vertical and surrounded by the busiest road network in the emirate. A tutor living in Al Barsha who agrees to a 5pm session in a Burj Khalifa district tower is committing to perhaps ninety minutes of driving and parking for sixty minutes of teaching, and no honest pricing model absorbs that for free. It is recovered either in the rate, in a minimum two-hour booking, or in a quietly narrower pool of people willing to take the job at all.

That last cost is the one parents notice too late. Hiring on proximity shrinks the candidate list to whoever happens to live within a short drive and happens to be free at the hour your child is home. For a general IGCSE need that may be fine. For Extended-tier Physics 0625, for Pearson Edexcel's modular structure, or for a student who has to lift two grades in Chemistry 0620 before a November entry closes, proximity is the wrong filter. The subject match matters more than the postcode, and once lessons are online the postcode stops mattering at all.

So this page does three things. It publishes the AED bands with their sources, because three of the six pages currently ranking for Dubai tutoring queries quote no price whatsoever and the two that do quote US dollars. It compares formats on the things that actually differ: contact minutes, travel, tutor pool, cancellation risk. And it is explicit about delivery. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. IGCSE tuition in Downtown Dubai reaches your child as live, one-to-one online lessons.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Downtown and the central corridor hold a mix of Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel centres, so a tutoring plan has to name a board before it names a topic. These are the stages an IGCSE student here passes through, and what each one costs in tutoring hours rather than in adjectives.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Key Stage 3

The three years before option choices are made. Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October, and the results are the first external signal a parent gets about whether Extended-tier IGCSE is realistic in two years' time. Support at this stage is cheap in hours and expensive to skip: algebraic fluency and written explanation are both built here.

Families in the Downtown corridor often move school at the end of Year 9, from a through-school in Al Quoz or Sobha Hartland to a different curriculum entirely. A Checkpoint report travels with the student and is the cheapest diagnostic available, because it costs nothing extra and already exists.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years, tiered entry in several subjects, and an exam series in June with November as the resit route for UAE candidates. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 splits into Core and Extended; the sciences 0625, 0620 and 0610 follow the same pattern. Grade 9 to 1 reporting now sits alongside A* to G depending on the subject and the centre.

Cambridge allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam. A Downtown family with children at two different schools may be reading two different zone timetables.

IGCSE-EAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other half of the British-curriculum market in Dubai. Mathematics A carries the code 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, and the structure differs from Cambridge in paper count, tiering and the availability of a January-adjacent results route. Pearson runs International GCSE exams in May/June and November each year, with provisional timetables published ahead of each series.

Pearson's November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and results from a November series reach students in January - November 2025 results landed on 22 January 2026. For a Downtown student retaking one subject, that is a usable second chance inside the same academic year.

POST16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

Post-16: A Level or IB Diploma

IGCSE grades are the gate to both routes, and the two cost different amounts to support. A Level narrows to three or four subjects with deep content; the IB Diploma keeps six plus the core, which spreads tutoring thinner across more subjects. Deciding in Year 11 rather than Year 12 keeps the bill predictable.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. Several sit within reach of the central corridor, which changes the post-16 shortlist for families currently assuming their through-school is the only option.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Downtown and central-corridor families ask about most, with the syllabus code that decides which past papers are worth buying. A tutor who cannot name the code is guessing at the paper structure, and you are paying for the guess.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Edexcel 4MA1)

Core and Extended; Edexcel Foundation and Higher

The single most requested subject in this corridor. Marks are lost in the same four places every series: algebraic manipulation under time pressure, unstructured multi-step problems, trigonometry in non-right-angled triangles, and method marks thrown away by unshown working. Extended tier assumes fluency the Core tier never tests.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading for A Level Mathematics or Maths AA at Higher Level. Calculus arrives here first, and students who have only ever met procedural algebra find the differentiation and integration questions a genuine step up. Useful as a bridge, punishing as an afterthought.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism account for a disproportionate share of lost marks, followed by anything requiring a rearranged equation with units carried through. The practical paper rewards students who can describe a method precisely enough for someone else to repeat it, which is a writing skill as much as a physics one.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles, concentration and reacting-mass calculations separate grades more than any other topic, and organic chemistry rewards pattern recognition over memorisation. Qualitative analysis questions ask for observation plus inference, and students routinely give one and lose the mark for the other.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and deceptively easy to revise badly. The marks sit in command-term discipline: describe, explain and suggest ask for different things, and a correct biological fact written in answer to the wrong command term scores nothing. Data and graph interpretation questions are the fastest place to gain.

Coordinated and Combined Science (Cambridge 0654 / 0653)

Core and Extended

Taken by students who need science breadth without three separate IGCSEs. The syllabus trims each discipline, which makes revision selection critical: using triple-science past papers wastes hours on content that is not assessed. IGCSE Combined Science needs its own paper diet, not a borrowed one.

English as a First Language (Cambridge 0500 / 0990)

Single tier, 9-1 or A*-G reporting

Reading paper marks hinge on selecting evidence and explaining effect rather than summarising plot. Directed writing tasks are lost on register and audience. Students who read widely often still underperform because nobody has shown them how the mark scheme rewards analysis of language choices.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

A common choice in a city where most students speak more than one language at home. Listening and speaking components carry real weight, and the written paper rewards controlled accuracy over ambition. Timed practice with feedback on error patterns moves grades faster than vocabulary lists.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy and definitional precision carry the paper. Students lose marks drawing an unlabelled axis or shifting the wrong curve, then lose more by describing a policy without evaluating it. The UAE context questions reward students who read local business coverage.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

Case-study application is the whole subject. Generic textbook answers score low; answers anchored in the stimulus material score well. Calculation questions on break-even, cash flow and ratios are reliable marks that students skip because they assume the subject is essay-only.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways families in this corridor buy IGCSE support, with the cost logic of each stated rather than hinted at. All of them run as one-to-one online lessons; none of them involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

The default and the cheapest way to make steady progress. Sixty minutes a week on a single subject, same tutor, same slot, with work set between sessions. At market rates for a qualified online subject tutor this is the AED 600 to 1,200 a month band, and it is the format most likely to survive a busy term because it asks little of the family's diary.

  • One subject, one tutor, a fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time
  • Work set between lessons and marked at the start of the next
  • Easiest format to pause for school exam weeks without losing the slot
  • Suits a student one or two grades below target rather than in crisis

Exam-term intensive block

A fixed number of hours bought for the eight to twelve weeks before a June or November series, usually two sessions a week and entirely past-paper driven. Specialist exam-year support is the AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above monthly band in Bestimate's table, and the reason is simply hours rather than a higher skill premium. Blocks end when the series ends.

  • Two sessions a week, built backwards from the published timetable
  • Marked past-paper questions under timed conditions every week
  • Topic selection driven by the student's own mock paper, not a generic list
  • Defined end date, so the spend is bounded before it starts

Paired siblings or two-student session

Two students at the same tier in the same subject share a session at a lower rate per student. Group rates in Dubai sit below one-to-one across every published tier, and for siblings in the same year the saving is real. It stops working the moment the two are at different tiers, because Core and Extended need different past papers.

  • Lower cost per student than two separate one-to-one hours
  • Only workable when both students sit the same tier and board
  • Pace is set by the slower of the two, which is a genuine trade-off
  • Common for twins and for Year 10 and Year 11 siblings taking the same subject

Single diagnostic session

One paid hour whose only output is a written assessment of where the marks are going, built from the student's last school paper. It exists because the most expensive mistake in this market is buying twenty hours of the wrong subject. Families who start here usually buy fewer hours overall and spend them better.

  • One hour, one marked paper, one written list of priorities
  • Tells you whether the problem is content, technique or timing
  • No obligation to continue with the same tutor or at all
  • Often shows the weak subject is not the one the parent suspected

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Downtown Dubai

01

What IGCSE tutoring actually costs in Dubai, with sources

  • Ask whether the quoted figure is per hour or per lesson before comparing anything
  • Ask whether the rate includes VAT, and get the answer in writing
  • Ask what a cancelled session costs and how much notice is required
  • Ask whether the first session is charged, and on what condition any trial is free

A direct answer first. IGCSE tuition in Dubai is advertised between roughly AED 45 and AED 650 an hour as of October 2026, and where a particular tutor sits in that range is decided by qualification, format and travel rather than by subject. The cheapest end is online and largely staffed by university students. The most expensive end is a named premium tutor. In-home one-to-one sits in the middle and carries the travel cost inside the rate.

The individual figures are published by the providers themselves. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour. Tutopiya lists from about AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. BartyED charges AED 650 for premium named tutors. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai cost table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors as high as AED 500, with subject specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above. None of these are IB Gram prices and none should be read as such.

What makes this worth publishing is that most of the cluster does not. Three of the six competitor pages measured in this market quote no price at all, and one of them asks the price question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. The two that do quote figures use US dollars, a currency a Dubai family does not transact in. A table of AED bands with named sources is the most useful thing a page in this market can carry, and it is uncontested.

Read the table below as a market map rather than a quotation. Then ask any provider two questions: is the rate per hour or per lesson, and does it include VAT. Those two answers move the real monthly figure more than any discount negotiation will.

02

The travel premium, and what it buys in a tower district

The gap between an online qualified tutor at AED 150 to 300 and an in-home visit at AED 180 to 500 is not a teaching-quality gap. It is a logistics gap, and in Downtown Dubai it is wider than in a villa community. A tutor driving to a Burj Khalifa district tower at 5pm faces Sheikh Zayed Road, then visitor parking that often requires a resident to meet them at a barrier, then a lift queue in a building with several hundred apartments. Fifteen minutes of that is normal and forty is not unusual.

Somebody pays for those minutes. Usually the family does, through a higher hourly rate, a two-hour minimum, or a package priced at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits. Sometimes the tutor pays, by accepting less per productive hour, and the predictable consequence is that the tutor leaves for easier work and the family starts again with somebody new in the middle of a term. Neither outcome improves a Chemistry grade.

The honest case for in-home tutoring is not cost. It is that a young child concentrates better with an adult physically present, or that a household has no quiet space a laptop can occupy, or that a parent wants to overhear the lesson. Those are real reasons and a Downtown family that holds one of them should hire locally and pay the premium knowingly. What they should not do is pay the premium by accident while believing it buys better teaching.

IB Gram does not sell in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, and nobody from IB Gram will arrive at a Downtown address. Home visiting is a service offered only in India. What a Dubai family gets instead is the whole of a subject-specialist pool rather than the slice of it that lives within a twenty-minute drive, at a rate with no driving inside it.

03

Three ways Downtown families lose money on IGCSE tutoring

  • Buy one diagnostic hour before buying a block of twenty
  • Confirm the syllabus code and tier in writing before the first lesson
  • Match specialist subjects to specialists and breadth work to a strong generalist
  • Re-check the plan after the first school mock rather than at the end of term

The first is buying hours before buying a diagnosis. A parent sees a 5 in Physics, books twenty hours, and discovers in week six that the student understood the content and was losing marks on command terms and unshown working. Twenty hours of content revision cannot fix a technique problem. One marked paper read properly by a subject specialist would have found it in an hour, and the correction would have taken four sessions rather than twenty.

The second is the wrong past papers. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are both heavily used in this corridor, and so are Core and Extended tiers within Cambridge. A student sitting Coordinated Science 0654 who revises from triple-science papers is working on assessed-elsewhere content. A Foundation-tier Edexcel candidate drilling Higher questions is losing confidence on material that will not appear. Both mistakes are invisible to a family and obvious to anyone who has taught the syllabus, and both are pure waste.

The third is paying for a generalist in a subject that needs a specialist. A capable all-rounder can lift a Year 10 student in several subjects at once, and for most families that is good value. In Extended Physics 0625, in Additional Mathematics 0606 and in the moles and organic topics of Chemistry 0620, the gap between a generalist and a specialist is visible in the first session. Paying generalist rates for specialist work is cheap per hour and expensive per grade.

The avoidable version of all three is the same: one diagnostic hour, a named syllabus code, and a tutor chosen for the paper rather than the postcode. That sequence costs less than a week of the wrong tutoring.

04

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and why the board changes the bill

Parents in the central corridor frequently do not know which board their child sits, because schools talk about subjects and not codes. It matters financially. The two boards set different numbers of papers, tier differently, and sit in different series windows, so the number of hours needed before an exam is genuinely different. A tutor who asks for the code in the first message is saving you money; one who does not is about to guess.

Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. For UAE candidates the live series are June and November.

Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE exams in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables well ahead of a series, so the only sensible instruction is to work from the live official timetable rather than from any date restated on a tutoring page.

The practical effect for a Downtown household with two children at two schools is that they may be running two different calendars, two different tiering decisions and two different past-paper libraries. Treating that as one tutoring plan is how a term of effort produces one improved grade instead of two.

What a term of online IGCSE support actually contains

A term is roughly twelve teaching weeks. Bought as one weekly hour, that is twelve hours, and twelve hours is enough to move one subject meaningfully if they are spent in the right order. Spent badly, twelve hours is a tour of the syllabus that ends where it started. The order that works is diagnosis, then the two or three topics carrying the most lost marks, then timed technique, then a full paper under exam conditions with the marking read aloud.

Weeks one and two go on the student's own last paper. Not a new test, the real one, because the errors in it are the errors under the conditions that matter. Weeks three to seven take the topics that paper exposed and teach them properly, with work set between sessions and marked before the next lesson starts. Weeks eight and nine move to question technique: command terms, working shown, units carried, and the discipline of answering what was asked. Weeks ten to twelve are timed papers and their post-mortems.

What that buys at the published mid-market rate of AED 150 to 300 an hour is twelve to thirty-six hundred dirhams for one subject for a term, which sits inside Bestimate's AED 600 to 1,200 monthly band. A family running two subjects doubles it. A family running an exam-term intensive block in the eight weeks before a June series will sit in the higher band simply because the hours are higher, not because the rate is.

Set against the rest of a Dubai education budget, that is a small line. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. A flat fee year is the easiest year in which to fund a term of targeted tutoring without adding to total household spend.

Who is legally allowed to tutor your child in Dubai

This question has a clear answer and almost nobody in this market publishes it. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and the official route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Eligibility is broad. It covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting you a specific amount is quoting something it cannot source.

Two further points a parent can use. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carrying a similar bar.

So the useful question to ask a prospective tutor is simply whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and the useful thing to know is that it costs them nothing to hold. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform; it does not hold and does not claim KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE, IB or Cambridge accreditation of any kind, and no page here should be read as implying otherwise.

What a tutor may do with coursework, and what you must never buy

  • Teaching content, explaining criteria and commenting on the student's own draft: all legitimate
  • Writing, redrafting to completion or supplying a finished piece: never, at any price
  • Official papers and mark schemes are referenced and linked, not copied and sent
  • Any offer of a completed assessment is a reason to walk away, not to negotiate

This matters on a cost page because the most expensive thing available in this market is cheap. One provider in the researched corpus sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. What that buys is an academic-honesty breach, and in the IB system the consequence falls on the student rather than the seller. The same logic applies to IGCSE coursework components and to any assessed piece submitted under the student's name.

The boundary is not vague. A tutor may teach the underlying content, explain what a mark scheme rewards, help a student narrow a research question, ask the questions that expose a weak argument, comment on a draft the student has written, and teach referencing. A tutor must never write the IA, draft the Extended Essay, produce the coursework or edit a piece to the point where the thinking is no longer the student's. No tutor at IB Gram will do any of that, and a tutor who offers it should be refused.

There is a related rule about materials. Published syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB. A tutor should reference and link them from the official site, not hand over copies. A page that offers a downloadable mark scheme is telling you something about how it treats rules in general.

Said plainly: you are paying for teaching hours and feedback, and the written work stays the student's own. That is a differentiator in a market where at least one ranking site sells the opposite, and it is the only version of the service that leaves a student's qualification intact.

08

MoE equivalency, and the money you do not need to spend on it

Families budgeting for IGCSE tutoring often fold in a vague fear about UAE certificate equivalency, and the fear is usually more expensive than the facts. For the British track, the Ministry of Education's published requirements are that a student passes five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and submits proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details save money. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE or IGCSE count, so a family paying for extra tutoring in them on equivalency grounds is paying for something the count does not use. And the threshold is a pass at E or grade 3, not a high grade, which means equivalency and university entry are different problems with different budgets. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a six-subject requirement; the sourced figure is five.

For the American track the same page sets English proficiency at a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics at at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB there is no published points threshold that can be responsibly restated here, so the only honest instruction is to verify it on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority.

IB Gram does not perform equivalency or attestation and cannot influence its outcome. The process belongs to the Ministry of Education and the emirate authority, and tutoring is not a requirement of it. Describing it as one would be a false-urgency claim about a regulatory process, which is precisely the kind of pressure a parent should price at zero.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside IGCSE

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in every Dubai private school
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs are required; combined classes are prohibited
  • Instructional time is built from forty-minute units, with at least twenty-five minutes advised per lesson
  • Additional or different content needs prior MoE permission, so tutoring tracks the school's scheme

Every British-curriculum school in Dubai runs mandatory UAE subjects next to its licensed curriculum, and families regularly discover this only when a report card arrives with an unfamiliar grade on it. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the international curriculum the school is licensed to teach, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The organisational rules are specific enough to be worth knowing. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Instructional time is counted in forty-minute lesson units. Schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory subject lesson should run at least twenty-five minutes. Schools are also required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic have the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a checkable credential rather than a marketing line. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the MoE is strictly prohibited.

For a tutoring budget the consequence is simple. Support in these subjects follows the school's own scheme of work and nothing else, and a tutor who proposes alternative material for them has misunderstood the rule. It is also worth remembering that these grades sit outside the five IGCSE subjects the MoE counts for British-track equivalency, so their place in the plan is school progression rather than attestation.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Downtown Dubai

Downtown sits at the centre of a corridor of apartment districts and inland communities that share schools, traffic and tutoring habits. These notes are about what each one does to the cost and timing of a session, not about its skyline.

Burj Khalifa district and Old Town

Tower living with underground parking a visiting tutor cannot usually access without a resident escort, which adds ten to twenty unpaid minutes to each end of an in-home visit. Online sessions start on the minute instead.

Business Bay

Immediately south across the canal and the nearest comparison point for any rate quoted in Downtown. Same school shortlists, same evening traffic, and the same conclusion once travel is priced into an hourly figure.

DIFC

A smaller residential population with longer working hours in the household, so sessions are often requested after 7pm. That is a time slot in-home tutors price at a premium and online tutors simply have available.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Where several of the schools this corridor actually uses are located, including Safa British School and Citizens School. Close on a map, slow at 3pm, and a frequent reason a 4pm in-home session becomes a 4.40pm one.

Sobha Hartland and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Villa and townhouse stock with Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai on the doorstep. Lower travel friction than the towers, which is exactly why in-home rates quoted here sit at the bottom of the AED 180-500 band.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Served by Swiss International Scientific School Dubai. Crossing the creek at the wrong hour is the single biggest variable in whether a tutor arrives on time, and it is unpredictable rather than merely slow.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Kent College Dubai anchors this side. Distances are longer but roads move, so families here are often quoted a lower in-home rate than a Downtown tower five kilometres closer.

Za'abeel and Dubai Design District

A thin residential strip where families typically commute outward to school and inward to work. Session timing matters more than tutor location, and that is the whole argument for a video lesson.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Downtown Dubai

Central and inland campuses used from Downtown

The Downtown Dubai IGCSE schools most often named on shortlists from these towers, reachable without joining Sheikh Zayed Road northbound in the morning. Boards differ between them, which is why a tutoring plan starts with the syllabus code and not the subject name.

  • Hartland International School, Sobha Hartland
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai, Sobha Hartland
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai, Al Jaddaf
  • Kent College Dubai, Nad Al Sheba
  • Safa British School, Al Quoz
  • Citizens School, Al Quoz

The westward Jumeirah and Al Safa choices

Reached along Al Wasl Road or Jumeirah Beach Road and chosen for a particular curriculum rather than a short run. The morning direction is the busiest available, which is why evening tutoring in these households is scheduled late and why online slots fill first.

  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Jumeira
  • Emirates International School, Jumeirah
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School, Al Quoz

Schools are named here as context for the neighbourhood's education market. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the code, not just the subject

Send the subject, the board, the syllabus code if you have it, the tier and the year group. For a Downtown family that usually means reading it off the last report or asking the school office once. This single step removes the most common cause of wasted hours, which is a tutor preparing for the wrong paper.

  2. 02

One diagnostic hour on the student's own paper

The first session works from the most recent school assessment rather than a new test. A subject specialist marks it, names the topics costing marks, and separates content gaps from technique losses. You get that in writing, and it is useful whether or not you continue.

  3. 03

A written plan with a number of hours attached

Before the second session you receive a plan: which topics, in what order, how many hours, and what the student does between lessons. If the plan needs twelve hours rather than thirty, it says twelve. A plan without an hour count is not a plan, it is an open invoice.

  4. 04

A fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

Sessions are scheduled around the school day and the household's evening, not around a tutor's drive. Lessons run over live video, one-to-one. Because nobody is travelling, a 7.30pm slot is as available as a 4pm one, and a slot missed for a school event moves without renegotiating the rate.

  5. 05

Review after the next school assessment

The plan is re-cut when the next real mark arrives, not at the end of a package. If the named topics have recovered and new ones have not appeared, hours come down. If the student has stalled, the tutor match is reconsidered rather than defended.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices on the page, with sources attached

Three of the six ranking pages measured in this market publish no price at all, and two of those that do quote US dollars. Every AED figure here names the provider that published it and the date it was reviewed, so you can check it rather than take it.

A subject pool instead of a radius

Hiring on proximity narrows the list to whoever lives nearby and is free at the right hour. Online delivery removes the radius, so an Extended Physics 0625 student in a Downtown tower is matched on the paper they sit rather than on the drive from Al Barsha.

Syllabus codes, tiers and papers named

0580, 0606, 0625, 0620, 0610, 0654, 4MA1, 4PH1. Codes decide which past papers are useful and which are a waste of a term. Exactly one syllabus code appeared across the whole area cluster this page competes in, which tells you how rare the habit is.

The regulatory position stated, not implied

KHDA regulates Dubai's private schools, MoHRE issues the free two-year private tuition work permit, and the MoE handles equivalency. IB Gram is independent of all of them and claims no approval from any. Naming a regulator is information; implying its endorsement is a liability.

Coursework help with a hard boundary

Teaching, criteria explanation and feedback on the student's own draft: yes. Producing assessed work: never, at any price, including the AED 3,750 completed assessments one competitor in this market advertises. The qualification only has value if the work behind it is the student's.

A bounded spend rather than an open one

Every plan carries an hour count and an end point, and the review happens when the next real mark lands. A term of one weekly hour sits inside the AED 600 to 1,200 monthly band published for qualified online subject tutors, and you know that before you start.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Downtown Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IGCSE home tutor in Downtown Dubai charge per hour?+

In-home one-to-one tutoring across Dubai is advertised between roughly AED 180 and 500 an hour, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common band at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors going as high as AED 500. In a tower district the figure sits higher in that range because travel, visitor parking and lift time are inside the rate. Qualified online subject tutors are published at AED 150 to 300 for the same teaching minutes. IB Gram delivers IGCSE support online rather than in homes in the UAE, so there is no travel component in the hour you pay for.

What does a month of IGCSE tuition cost for a Downtown Dubai family?+

For one weekly hour, Bestimate's Dubai estimates run about AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 for a qualified subject tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised packages in this market include roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Two subjects roughly doubles the figure. These are market rates published by other providers and reviewed in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

Is it cheaper to hire online or in-home tuition in a Burj Khalifa district tower?+

Online is cheaper on published rates and cheaper again on productive minutes. A qualified online subject tutor is listed at AED 150 to 300 an hour against AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit, and the online hour starts on the minute while the in-home hour absorbs parking, a resident escort to the lift and the building's evening lift traffic. The honest reasons to prefer in-home are a young child who concentrates better with an adult present, or a home with no quiet space for a laptop. Cost is not one of them.

Which syllabus code should I give you when I ask for an IGCSE tutor?+

Whichever one is on your child's report or in the school's curriculum letter. The common ones in this corridor are Cambridge 0580 Mathematics, 0606 Additional Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology and 0654 Coordinated Science, plus Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 Mathematics A and 4PH1 Physics. Add the tier, Core or Extended for Cambridge and Foundation or Higher for Edexcel. Those two pieces of information decide which past papers are worth the student's time, and getting them wrong is the single most common way a term of revision is wasted.

Why would a nearby tutor be the wrong choice for my child?+

Because proximity filters for the wrong thing. Searching within a short drive of Downtown narrows the list to people who live close and happen to be free when your child is home, and that list may contain nobody who has taught Extended Physics 0625 or the moles and organic sections of Chemistry 0620. For broad Year 10 support a strong generalist nearby is good value. For a specific grade gap in a specific paper, the subject match decides the outcome and the postcode decides nothing, because lessons run over video either way.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to an apartment in Downtown Dubai?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is a service provided only in India. IGCSE support for a Downtown Dubai family is delivered as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. The page uses the phrase home tutor because it is what parents search for, and the question deserves a straight answer rather than a quiet redirect. What you gain in exchange is access to the whole subject-specialist pool instead of the part of it within driving distance of your building.

How many hours of tutoring does one IGCSE grade usually take?+

There is no guaranteed conversion and anyone offering one should be treated with scepticism. What can be said is that a term of twelve weekly hours, spent in the right order, is enough to move a single subject for a student who is one or two grades below target. The order matters more than the total: two hours on the student's own marked paper, five on the topics it exposed, two on question technique, three on timed full papers. The same twelve hours spread randomly across a syllabus usually ends where it began.

Do tutors in Dubai need a government permit, and does it cost them anything?+

Yes to the permit and no to the cost. Private tutoring in the UAE runs on the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Applications go through MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, via the smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so ignore any page quoting a figure.

Where exactly is the line on IGCSE coursework help we are paying for?+

Yes, within a boundary that should be stated before the first session. A tutor may teach the content, explain what the mark scheme rewards, help the student narrow a question, challenge a weak argument and comment on a draft the student has written. A tutor must never produce the piece, redraft it to completion, or supply text the student submits as their own. One provider in this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; buying that risks the student's qualification, not the seller's. The work stays the student's own.

When are the IGCSE exams my child will actually sit?+

UAE candidates use the June and November series. Cambridge runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in June and November, with Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones; Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct zone timetable and cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable from late October to 19 November 2026. Always work from the live official timetable.

How quickly do November IGCSE results come back if we need a retake?+

For Pearson Edexcel, November results reach students in January: November 2025 results landed on 22 January 2026. June results come far faster, with June 2026 results going to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. That timing is what makes November useful for a Downtown student who missed a target in June, because the improved grade exists inside the same academic year. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so confirm the exact dates on the official timetable page before planning around them.

How many IGCSE subjects does my child need for UAE certificate equivalency?+

Five. The Ministry of Education requires a pass in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong. Equivalency is handled by the Ministry and the emirate authority, not by a tutoring service, and tutoring is not a requirement of it.

Can we pay for one session to find out whether tutoring is even needed?+

That is the sensible way to start. A single diagnostic hour works from the student's most recent school paper rather than a new test, and produces a written list of the topics costing the most marks and a judgement on whether the problem is content, technique or timing. Families who start here usually buy fewer total hours and spend them better, and a fair number discover the weak subject was not the one they suspected. There is no obligation to continue, with the same tutor or at all.

Does a Downtown Dubai family need tutoring in Arabic and Islamic Education too?+

Those subjects are mandatory in every Dubai private school regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs with combined classes prohibited. Instructional time is built from forty-minute units, with at least twenty-five minutes advised per lesson. Support in them has to follow the school's own scheme, because using different or additional content without prior MoE permission is prohibited. They also sit outside the five subjects counted for British-track equivalency, so budget for them as school progression rather than as an attestation requirement.

What should I ask a tutoring provider before I pay anything?+

Six questions. Is the rate per hour or per lesson. Does it include VAT. What does a cancelled session cost and how much notice is needed. Is the first session charged, and if a trial is free, on what condition. Which syllabus code and tier will the tutor prepare for. And does the tutor hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which costs them nothing and lasts two years. Any provider that cannot answer those in writing is asking you to price a service you cannot see.

Start with one hour and one honest number

You now have the market bands with their sources, the reason a tower visit costs more than the teaching inside it, and the three ways families in this corridor lose money on tutoring they bought in good faith. The next step is small on purpose: tell us the subject, the board, the code and the tier, and book one diagnostic hour against your child's last school paper. You get a written list of what is costing marks and an hour count to fix it. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses.
