IGCSE Science Tutor in Downtown Dubai

Searching for an IGCSE Science tutor in Downtown Dubai usually means asking one question: is there anybody who actually knows the syllabus my child is sitting? Dubai schools run Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and Oxford AQA science, as single subjects or as a double award, and the papers differ. IB Gram matches on the syllabus code, not the postcode, and teaches live online in Gulf Standard Time. The first lesson is free.

  • Matched by syllabus code: 0610, 0620, 0625, 0654 or 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1
  • Core and Extended tiers taught separately, not blended

IB & IGCSE in Downtown Dubai

The question behind the search: does anyone here know this exact syllabus?

A Downtown Dubai parent typing "IGCSE science tutor near me" is almost never asking about distance. The real question is sharper and more anxious than that: my child is sitting a specific paper set by a specific board at a specific tier, the mark scheme rewards a particular kind of answer, and the last tutor we tried taught a different syllabus and did not notice. Is there anybody who knows this one?

That anxiety is well founded, because Dubai's science landscape is genuinely fragmented. The emirate's private schools licence seventeen different curricula, and the UK curriculum accounts for 37% of enrolment according to Dubai Media Office figures published in January 2025. Inside that UK share, schools choose independently between Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel and Oxford AQA. They then choose whether science is three separate IGCSEs, a co-ordinated double award worth two grades, or a single combined science award. They then choose, per candidate, between the Core and Extended tiers. And in Cambridge sciences the school decides whether candidates sit the laboratory practical test or the written alternative to practical. That is four independent decisions before a single topic is taught.

A tutor who gets any of those four wrong teaches confidently and uselessly. Cambridge 0620 Chemistry and Pearson 4CH1 Chemistry cover overlapping content with different paper structures, different mark allocations and different command-term conventions. A student on Cambridge Core cannot be awarded above a grade C and should not be spending revision time on Extended-only material. A student sitting the alternative to practical paper needs a very different kind of preparation from one taking a practical test in a lab.

So the honest answer to "is there anyone near me" is that proximity is the wrong screen and specificity is the right one. The screen that matters is whether the tutor can name the paper structure for your child's code without looking it up. Because IB Gram teaches live online, the pool is every tutor who knows that code and is free at your hour, rather than the much smaller set who know it and also happen to live within a short drive of the Boulevard. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we offer only in India, and we say so rather than letting a parent discover it at booking.

This page is built to answer the question honestly. It shows you how to find out which syllabus your child is on, what each board's papers look like, how the tier and practical decisions change the preparation, what coverage we genuinely have and what we do when we have none, and what the Dubai market charges. Where a figure appears, the source is named.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IGCSE science in Dubai is a two-year course sat at 16, and it sits inside different structures depending on the school. These are the routes Downtown families are actually on, and what each one means for the kind of tutor they need.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Separate sciences

Biology, Chemistry and Physics taken as three independent IGCSEs, giving three grades. Cambridge codes are 0610, 0620 and 0625; Pearson Edexcel equivalents are 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. This is the route most academically selective Dubai schools take for students heading towards A Level or IB Diploma sciences, and it carries the heaviest content load of the three options.

In Dubai this route is the standard expectation at British-curriculum schools with strong science departments, and it is the one that produces the most tutoring requests in Year 11. Three separate sciences means three sets of practical skills and three revision timetables, which is why students on this route most often need help with workload sequencing rather than content.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Co-ordinated or double award science

One course covering biology, chemistry and physics, leading to two IGCSE grades. Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences is 0654; Pearson's Science Double Award is 4SD0. Content is reduced relative to three separate sciences but all three disciplines are still examined, which is why students often find it harder than expected: the breadth remains while the teaching time per discipline drops.

A large number of Dubai schools use the double award for students taking nine or ten subjects, because it frees a timetable slot. Finding a tutor who has actually taught 0654 rather than the three separate syllabuses is harder than finding a biology tutor, and that scarcity is exactly where a local search fails a Downtown family.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Combined science, single award

Cambridge Combined Science, 0653, leads to a single IGCSE grade covering all three disciplines. It suits students whose strengths are elsewhere and who need science certificated without three grades' worth of content. The practical and theory structure mirrors the other Cambridge sciences, and the grade still counts towards the subject totals universities and the Ministry look at.

Fewer Dubai schools offer the single award, and parents sometimes discover their child is on it only when option forms come back. If your child is on 0653 and a tutor starts teaching 0620 content, the mismatch will not be obvious for weeks, which is the clearest argument for matching on code rather than subject name.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Where IGCSE science leads next

After IGCSE, Dubai students split between A Level sciences and IB Diploma sciences. The IB route reorganises content into themes and adds a Scientific Investigation worth 20% of the subject grade. A Level goes deeper in a narrower space. Separate-science candidates have the smoothest transition into either; double-award candidates have a real content gap to close in the first term.

This matters while choosing in Year 11, not afterwards. A Dubai student on the double award who wants Chemistry HL should be told in Year 11 that the first DP term will involve catching up, and should plan a short bridging block over the summer rather than discovering the gap in October.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Downtown families book science tuition by discipline and by code. These are the IGCSE science subjects we are asked for most often, with what each one actually examines and where the marks tend to disappear.

Cambridge Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Heavy on precise terminology and named processes. Extended adds depth across transport, coordination and inheritance. Marks are most often lost on command terms, where students describe a graph they were asked to explain, and on labelling that uses everyday words instead of syllabus vocabulary.

Cambridge Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, bonding, the periodic table and organic chemistry. Extended adds quantitative work including electrolysis and rates arithmetic. The commonest avoidable loss is in moles questions, where students can do the sum but set it out so untidily that method marks are not awarded.

Cambridge Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Forces, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism and atomic physics. Extended adds algebraic rearrangement and more multi-step calculation. Electricity is the topic Dubai students most often flag, and it is almost always a circuit-reading problem rather than an equation problem.

Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

Core and Extended, double award

All three disciplines in one course leading to two identical grades. The challenge is breadth against reduced teaching time, so students arrive at revision with thin coverage in whichever discipline their teacher knows least well. Tutors who have taught this specific code are genuinely scarce.

Cambridge Combined Science 0653

Core and Extended, single award

One grade across all three disciplines, with a reduced content scope. Suits a student carrying nine or ten subjects who needs science certificated. Revision has to be guided by the syllabus content list rather than by a separate-science textbook, which over-covers and wastes time.

Pearson Edexcel Biology 4BI1

Grades 9-1

Two written papers with no separate practical examination; practical skills are assessed within the papers. The style rewards extended written explanation more than Cambridge does, and students moving between boards mid-course notice that first.

Pearson Edexcel Chemistry 4CH1

Grades 9-1

Two written papers covering principles of chemistry, inorganic, physical and organic chemistry. Practical skills are examined inside the papers. Calculation questions carry more marks per question than many students expect, which makes layout discipline worth real points.

Pearson Edexcel Physics 4PH1

Grades 9-1

Two written papers, each two hours, with calculators permitted throughout. Content spans forces and motion, electricity, waves, energy, magnetism, radioactivity and astrophysics. The astrophysics content catches students out because it is taught late and revised less.

Pearson Science Double Award 4SD0

Grades 9-1

A single course leading to two IGCSE grades across the three disciplines. As with Cambridge's double award, the content is reduced but the breadth is not, and the main tutoring need is systematic coverage of whichever discipline the school taught thinnest.

Oxford AQA International GCSE sciences

Grades 9-1

Used by a smaller number of Dubai schools. Content and assessment differ from both Cambridge and Pearson, so a tutor needs to confirm which board before planning anything. Check the board name on the statement of entry rather than assuming from the textbook on the shelf.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Downtown families use IGCSE science tuition, all live online. The right choice depends on how many sciences your child is sitting and whether the gap is content, exam technique or practical paper preparation.

Single-subject weekly support

One science, one fixed weekly hour, taught against the exact syllabus code. This is the standard arrangement for a Year 10 or Year 11 student whose other sciences are fine. The tutor follows the school's teaching order so each session consolidates the week rather than running a parallel course.

  • Taught to one code: 0620, 4CH1, 0625 or whichever applies
  • Same hour each week in Gulf Standard Time
  • Tier-appropriate material only, so no Extended work for a Core candidate
  • A short note after each session naming the practice to do

Double-award coverage audit

For students on 0654 or 4SD0, where the common problem is a discipline taught thinly rather than a topic misunderstood. The tutor works through the published content list with the student, marks what has genuinely been covered, and then fills the gaps in priority order. It is diagnostic before it is instructional.

  • Content list checked discipline by discipline against the student's notes
  • Gaps ranked by how many marks they carry in the papers
  • Revision time directed away from over-covered topics
  • Works best started in the first term of Year 11

Practical paper preparation

Short blocks aimed at the practical component, once we know whether your child sits the laboratory practical test or the written alternative to practical. The two need different preparation, and Cambridge leaves the choice to the school, so this is the first thing to establish.

  • School's practical route confirmed before planning anything
  • Variable identification, tables and graph work drilled
  • Error and improvement questions practised to mark-scheme wording
  • Apparatus diagrams and measurement precision covered explicitly

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Downtown Dubai

01

How to find out which syllabus your child is actually sitting

This takes about ten minutes and it is the single most useful thing a parent can do before booking any science tutor. There are three reliable sources and one unreliable one. The reliable sources are the statement of entry the school issues for the exam series, which carries the board name and the syllabus code for every subject; the exams officer, who holds the entry data for every candidate; and the science department's curriculum overview, which most Dubai schools publish on their website. The unreliable source is the textbook on your child's shelf, which is frequently from a different board than the one they are entered for.

What you are looking for is four facts. First, the board: Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel or Oxford AQA. Second, the award structure: three separate sciences, a double award worth two grades, or a single combined award. Third, the tier: Core or Extended for Cambridge, Foundation or Higher for Pearson where tiering applies. Fourth, for Cambridge sciences, whether candidates sit the practical test in a laboratory or the written alternative to practical paper.

Those four facts change what good tuition looks like, not just its label. A Core candidate who spends six weeks on Extended-only content has wasted six weeks and cannot be awarded above a grade C whatever they learn. A student sitting the alternative to practical needs drilled practice on reading apparatus diagrams and spotting the flawed method in a written scenario, which is a different exercise from handling real equipment. A double-award candidate following a separate-science revision guide is studying material that will not appear.

Once you have the four facts, the tutoring conversation changes character entirely. Instead of asking whether someone teaches chemistry, you can ask whether they have taught 0620 Extended with the alternative to practical, and the answer tells you something. That is a question a parent can ask with confidence in a five-minute call, and it filters harder than any claim on a website.

Why "near me" is the wrong filter for a syllabus problem

  • Specialism plus radius plus a fixed hour produces an almost empty set
  • The near-miss sequence costs a term before anyone identifies the cause
  • Online removes the radius without touching the teaching
  • The real advantage of a visit is age-related, and it is for younger children

Proximity filtering made sense when the tutor had to be in the room. Applied to a syllabus-matching problem it does active harm, and the arithmetic is easy to see. Suppose a tutor needs to know Cambridge 0654 Extended with the alternative to practical route. That is a narrow specialism. Now require that the same person lives within a twenty-minute drive of Downtown Dubai and has a free hour at 6pm on a Tuesday. You have taken a small set and made it very nearly empty.

Parents feel the consequence as a sequence of near misses. The first tutor is a biology graduate who teaches 0610 well and has never seen 0654. The second taught Pearson in the UK and keeps referring to papers your child will not sit. The third is excellent and is full until February. By the time a family reaches a tutor who actually knows the code, a term has gone, and the conclusion they draw is that tutoring does not work.

Removing the distance constraint fixes this without changing anything else about the lesson. Your child sits in the apartment they came home to, opens a laptop at the hour that suits the bus, and works with someone whose only qualification for the slot is knowing the syllabus and being free. No parking in a tower basement, no security sign-in, no tutor stuck on Sheikh Zayed Road, and no compromise on the match in order to satisfy a radius.

We should be clear about what is lost rather than pretending nothing is. A tutor in the room can see a page, notice a student disengaging and manage a younger child. For a nine-year-old that matters a great deal. For a Year 11 student working past papers on a shared screen it matters much less than knowing the mark scheme. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE in any case, and home tutoring remains a service we run only in India.

03

Core against Extended, and the decision that caps a grade

Cambridge sciences are tiered, and the tier decision has a consequence that catches Dubai parents late. A Core candidate is assessed on a reduced content set and can be awarded grades C to G. An Extended candidate is assessed on the full content and can be awarded A* to E. The ceiling is structural. No amount of revision moves a Core candidate above a C, because the papers they sit do not contain the questions that award higher grades.

Schools make this decision for sensible reasons, usually based on Year 10 performance and on how many subjects a student is carrying. It is often the right call: a student who would be overwhelmed by Extended across three sciences may do far better with Core grades in hand and a realistic workload. The problem is not the decision; it is that families sometimes learn about it only when a revision guide does not match the class, and by then the entry may already be submitted.

What a tutor can do about it depends entirely on timing. Early in Year 10, a short intensive block aimed at the specific weaknesses behind the Core recommendation can genuinely change the conversation with the school, and some students move tier. Midway through Year 11, the entry is usually set and the honest advice is to stop fighting it and maximise the grade available. A tutor who claims otherwise in February is selling hope.

The table sets out what each tier means in practice, including the Pearson position, which is different because the separate international GCSE sciences are untiered.

The practical component: a laboratory test or a written alternative

  • The practical component is 20% of a Cambridge science grade
  • The school chooses between a practical test and the written alternative
  • The written alternative is desk-trainable and routinely under-prepared
  • Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers instead

This is the Cambridge detail most parents in Dubai have never been told, and it changes a fifth of the grade. For Cambridge sciences, the practical component carries 20% of the final mark, and candidates take either a practical test conducted in a school laboratory or a written alternative-to-practical paper. The school decides which, and different schools in the same district make different choices. Pearson handles this differently again, assessing practical skills inside the written papers rather than in a separate component.

The preparation diverges sharply. A practical test rewards handling apparatus accurately under time pressure: reading a thermometer to the right precision, setting up a circuit that works, recording to consistent decimal places while the clock runs. That is laboratory work and it is done at school. A written alternative-to-practical paper rewards something else entirely: reading a described method and identifying the flaw, completing a results table, plotting and interpreting a graph from supplied data, and suggesting a specific improvement in mark-scheme language. That is desk work, and it can be taught very effectively over a shared screen.

The practical irony is that the component parents assume cannot be tutored remotely is, for most Dubai candidates, precisely the one that can. If your child's school enters candidates for the alternative-to-practical paper, almost everything they need is trainable at a desk with past questions. If the school enters for the practical test, the tutoring value lies in the planning and analysis around the bench work rather than in the handling itself, and that should be stated plainly rather than glossed.

So the first question in a trial lesson for a Cambridge science student is not which topic is hard. It is which practical route the school has entered them for. If a tutor does not ask that in the first session, they do not know the syllabus as well as they said.

05

What we actually cover, and what we do when nobody covers it

No tutoring provider in Dubai publishes its coverage limits, and that silence is why parents end up with the near-miss sequence described above. Here is ours, stated as plainly as we can. Cambridge and Pearson separate sciences are well covered at both tiers, because they are the highest-volume codes in the market and most science tutors have taught them. Cambridge 0654 Co-ordinated Sciences is covered but thinner, because fewer tutors have taught the double award specifically rather than the three subjects separately. Cambridge 0653 Combined Science is thinner still. Oxford AQA sciences are the narrowest coverage we have, and we will tell you that before you book rather than after.

When a request arrives that we cannot match well, the options are a wait with a named date, a tutor strong in the underlying discipline with the code-specific gap stated openly so you can judge it, or a different hour where a better-matched tutor is free. What we will not do is take the booking and hope the discipline knowledge carries the code difference, because with double awards and tier differences it frequently does not.

There is a second disclosure that belongs here. Some of our science tutors are UAE residents; others teach from India, where our in-home service operates, and work with Dubai students over live video in Gulf Standard Time. We do not route UAE families to a non-UAE phone number while implying a local presence, and we do not claim an office in Dubai, because we do not have one. The thing that affects your child's lesson is whether the tutor knows 0620 Extended and is awake at 6pm Gulf time, and both of those are checkable in the free trial.

The table below is the honest version of a coverage chart. Match times are typical rather than promised, and the fallback column is what actually happens rather than what a marketing page would say.

The June and November series, and what a resit really costs

UAE candidates sit two series a year. Cambridge runs International GCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests at other points in the year. The February and March series that circulates in some revision forums is offered to India only and does not apply to a child in Dubai; quoting those dates to a UAE parent is a planning error, not a detail.

Cambridge also divides centres into administrative zones. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong zone timetable. For a Dubai family that means the timetable your child works from must be the one the school issues, not one downloaded from a search result.

Pearson publishes its own pattern openly. Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results reach students in January; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series, which is exactly why any plan should be built from the live official timetable rather than from dates restated on a tutoring page.

The practical point for a Downtown family is the gap between the series. A November resit decision made in late August gives roughly eight weeks of preparation and a January result. A June resit decision gives a longer runway and an August result. Which one suits depends on whether the grade is needed for a sixth-form place in September, and that is a conversation to have with the school's exams officer in the week results arrive, not a month later.

What IGCSE science tuition costs in Dubai, per subject and in total

A parent with a child sitting three separate sciences is not buying one tutor. That is the arithmetic most cost conversations in this market skip, and it is the reason tuition budgets break in Year 11 rather than Year 10. The honest way to price it is per subject per week, then multiplied by how many sciences are genuinely in trouble, which is usually one or two rather than three.

Taking the published rates: Unitors lists IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour, which for one weekly session is roughly AED 600 a month per subject. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table estimates weekly one-hour tutoring at AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. At the cheaper end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52, which buys a university student or generalist. At the premium end, TutorChase quotes AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 for named or examiner-linked tutors. In-home rates sit higher with travel included: Bestimate records AED 180 to AED 350, and independent home tutors AED 200 to AED 500.

Run that across two sciences for a Year 11 student and a mid-market online arrangement comes to roughly AED 1,200 to AED 1,600 a month, while the equivalent in-home arrangement sits closer to AED 2,500 to AED 3,500 once travel is inside the rate. Advertised monthly packages in this market illustrate the same gap: around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Every figure here belongs to the provider named beside it and none of them is an IB Gram price; we quote after the free trial, once we know the code, the tier and the frequency.

A useful piece of context: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. School fees are flat; tuition is the line that is not. That is a reason to spend on the one or two sciences that genuinely need it rather than on a defensive package covering all three.

What a parent can verify in ten minutes before booking anyone

  • Ask for the syllabus code and expect a number in the answer
  • Ask which practical route the school enters candidates for
  • Ask whether the tutor holds the free MoHRE private tuition permit
  • KHDA does not approve or rate individual private tutors in Dubai

Everything on this page reduces to a short list of checkable questions, and they work on any provider, not only on us. Ask which syllabus code the tutor has taught, and listen for whether the answer contains a number. Ask which tier your child is entered for and whether the tutor will teach to it. Ask, for a Cambridge science, whether the school enters candidates for the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper, and whether the tutor has prepared students for that route. Ask whether the first lesson is free and what happens if the match is wrong.

Two further checks are about the provider rather than the teaching. Ask whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit. The permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted amount as unverified.

Then ask about regulatory claims, because this is where the Dubai market is weakest. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects schools annually. It does not inspect or rate individual private tutors. A separate KHDA Educational Services Permit applies to training institutes operating with premises and staff. IB Gram holds no such permit and runs no centre, office or branch in the UAE, which is why no address appears on this page. Any provider implying regulatory endorsement of its individual tutors is describing something that does not exist.

Finally, ask what happens with your child's data. We ask for the school, the year group, the subject code and the time your child is home, because those four things determine the match. We do not need grades, a report card or a photograph, and we do not ask for them. Under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection you can ask what is held and ask for it to be deleted, and a provider that cannot answer that question quickly is telling you something.

Boulevard and Old Town towers served by Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall metro. With no school inside the district, children attend across at least four separate school clusters, which means several different boards within one building.

Business Bay

Immediately south across the Dubai Canal. Families here commute to the same campuses as Downtown and face the same board fragmentation, with slightly later bus returns.

DIFC

A financial free zone with its own court system, though its schools are regulated by KHDA as anywhere in Dubai. Evening slots after 7pm are the norm for working parents here.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Home to several long-established British and Indian-curriculum schools. A high proportion of Cambridge science candidates in the central corridor attend here, which shows in the codes we are asked for.

Sobha Hartland

A school destination for Downtown families, with campuses running IGCSE into A Level and others running the IB continuum. Both boards appear on the same street.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Creek-side communities with a short school run. Families here more often name IB schools than Cambridge ones, so the science questions arrive with different vocabulary.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Villa districts with established British-curriculum schools that draw from Downtown apartments. Pearson Edexcel codes appear here more often than in the older school belt.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Newer villa developments filling in between Meydan and Al Quoz. New schools opening in this part of Dubai means boards and tiers change between cohorts more than parents expect.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Downtown Dubai

British-curriculum campuses the central corridor attends

These are the schools whose science departments generate most of the IGCSE enquiries from Downtown and Business Bay. They do not all use the same board, and several have changed board between cohorts, so the code on this year's statement of entry is the only reliable source.

  • Safa British School
  • Hartland International School
  • Kent College Dubai
  • Safa Community School
  • Horizon English School
  • The English College Dubai
  • GEMS Wellington Primary School

Oud Metha, Al Garhoud and Al Quoz

The older school belt east and west of the centre, holding both Indian-curriculum schools that offer IGCSE streams and British schools running Cambridge science. Roughly twenty minutes from the Boulevard outside peak hours.

  • GEMS Winchester School Dubai
  • St Mary's Catholic High School
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • Credence High School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School

Creek-side and continuum campuses

Schools in Al Jaddaf, Meydan and Hartland that run the IB continuum or offer IGCSE alongside it. Families here sometimes ask for IGCSE science help when their child is actually on MYP Sciences, which is a different assessment model entirely.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Clarion School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Ambassador School Dubai

Schools are named to illustrate the board and curriculum mix in this part of Dubai. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find the code before you call anyone

Get the statement of entry or ask the exams officer for the board, the syllabus code, the tier and the practical route. Four facts, ten minutes, and they make every subsequent conversation sharper. Without them even a good tutor is guessing at which version of chemistry to teach.

  2. 02

Send those four facts with the enquiry

Our form asks for them directly, plus the school, the year group and the hour your child is realistically home from the bus. That combination determines which tutors can take the slot, and it is what lets us tell you quickly whether we have strong coverage or thin coverage for your request.

  3. 03

    Hear an honest coverage answer

If we have a tutor who has taught your child's code, we say so. If the match is a discipline specialist without that specific code, we say that too, with the gap described, so you can decide. A named wait is a legitimate answer and we use it rather than filling the slot badly.

  4. 04

Use the free lesson as a syllabus test

The trial lesson costs nothing. Ask the tutor in that hour which practical route your child sits and what the paper structure is for their code. The answer tells you more than any profile page, and if it is vague, tell us and we match again.

  5. 05

Fix the hour and keep it

Once the match works, the slot stays at the same time each week in Gulf Standard Time, with Ramadan timings agreed in advance. Consistency matters more in Year 11 than intensity does, and a fixed hour is what survives a mock season.

  6. 06

    Review on marked papers only

Progress is read from marked past-paper work at the correct tier, not from how a session felt. If the paper scores have not moved after six weeks, we change the approach or change the tutor rather than asking you to be patient.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the code, not the subject name

Your child is matched to a tutor who has taught their specific syllabus at their specific tier, because 0654 and 0620 are different jobs. Online delivery is what makes that level of specificity available to a family in a Downtown tower rather than whatever the local radius happens to contain.

Coverage limits published, not hidden

We state where our science coverage is strong, where it is moderate and where it is narrow, and what the fallback is in each case. No other provider in this market publishes that, and the absence is why so many families go through three tutors before finding one who fits.

The practical route established first

For Cambridge sciences we establish whether your child sits the laboratory practical test or the written alternative before planning anything, because that decision controls a fifth of the grade and the two need entirely different preparation.

Tier honesty, including the uncomfortable kind

If your child is entered for Core and the entry is set, we will say that the ceiling is a grade C and aim at securing every mark inside it, rather than selling a programme that implies otherwise. Where a tier change is still genuinely possible, we will say that too.

Exam dates from official sources only

We use Cambridge's June and November series for UAE candidates, flag that the February and March series is India-only, and quote Pearson dates with their source. Any plan is built from the live official timetable your school issues, not from dates copied onto a tutoring page.

No UAE office, no home visits, stated plainly

IB Gram runs no centre, branch or address in the UAE and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the country. Home visits are a service we offer only in India. Everything here happens live online, and you know it before you enquire rather than afterwards.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Downtown Dubai: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE science syllabus my child is sitting?+

Three reliable sources. The statement of entry the school issues for the exam series carries the board name and the syllabus code for every subject. The exams officer holds the entry data for every candidate and can confirm it in a short email. The science department's curriculum overview, which most Dubai schools publish, usually names the board. The unreliable source is the textbook on the shelf, which is frequently from a different board than the one your child is entered for. You want four facts: board, award structure, tier, and for Cambridge sciences the practical route.

What is the difference between Cambridge 0654 Co-ordinated Sciences and taking three separate sciences?+

0654 is a double award: one course covering biology, chemistry and physics, leading to two identical IGCSE grades. Three separate sciences are three courses leading to three grades, using codes 0610, 0620 and 0625. The content in the double award is reduced, but the breadth is not, so students often find it harder than expected because teaching time per discipline drops while all three disciplines remain examined. Tutors who have taught 0654 specifically, rather than the three subjects separately, are genuinely scarcer, which is worth asking about directly.

Can a Cambridge Core science candidate in Dubai still get an A?+

No, and it is better to know that early. Cambridge Core candidates are assessed on a reduced content set and can be awarded grades C to G. Extended candidates are assessed on the full content and can be awarded A* to E. The ceiling is structural rather than a matter of effort, because the Core papers do not contain the questions that award higher grades. If your child is early in Year 10 a tier change can sometimes be discussed with the school. By the middle of Year 11 the entry is usually set and the sensible aim is every mark available within Core.

Does my child sit a practical exam for IGCSE science in Dubai, or a written paper instead?+

It depends on the school, and this is the detail most parents are never told. For Cambridge sciences the practical component carries 20% of the grade, and candidates take either a practical test in a school laboratory or a written alternative-to-practical paper. The school chooses, and schools in the same district choose differently. Pearson assesses practical skills inside its written papers instead, with no separate component. Ask your exams officer which route applies, because the preparation for the two is almost entirely different.

Can the alternative-to-practical paper be prepared for online?+

Yes, and unusually well. The paper supplies a described method or a set of results and asks the candidate to identify a flaw, complete a table, plot and interpret a graph, read apparatus to an appropriate precision, and suggest a specific improvement in mark-scheme language. All of that is desk work built on past questions, which is exactly what a shared screen is good for. The component parents assume cannot be tutored remotely is, for candidates on this route, the one that responds fastest to remote practice.

Which IGCSE science topics do Dubai students struggle with most?+

Three come up repeatedly in enquiries from the central corridor. Electricity in physics, which is almost always a circuit-reading problem rather than an equation problem, and responds quickly to drilled diagram practice. Moles and quantitative chemistry, where students can do the arithmetic but set it out so untidily that method marks go unawarded. And command-term discipline across all three sciences, where a student describes a graph they were asked to explain and writes a true answer that scores nothing.

Is Pearson Edexcel IGCSE science easier than Cambridge?+

Neither is easier; they reward different things, and a student who moves between them mid-course feels the difference immediately. Pearson's separate international GCSE sciences are untiered, graded 9 to 1, assessed by two written papers with practical skills examined inside them, and the style leans towards extended written explanation. Cambridge is tiered Core or Extended, has a separate practical component worth 20%, and uses a tighter question style. The right question is not which is easier but which one your child is entered for.

When are IGCSE science exams held for a student in Dubai?+

UAE candidates sit two series a year. Cambridge runs International GCSE examinations in a June series and a November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. The February and March series sometimes mentioned online is offered to India only and does not apply in the UAE. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that using the correct zone timetable is essential, so work from the version your school issues.

Should my child resit IGCSE science in November or wait for June?+

It depends on what the grade is needed for. A November entry decided in late August gives roughly eight weeks of preparation and a result in January; Pearson's November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A June entry gives a much longer runway and an August result, with June 2026 results reaching students on 20 August 2026. If a sixth-form or A Level place in September depends on the grade, November is usually the only option that arrives in time. Book a meeting with the exams officer in the week the original result lands.

How much does an IGCSE science tutor cost in Dubai if my child needs two subjects?+

Price it per subject per week and then multiply. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour, so one weekly session per subject is roughly AED 600 a month each, around AED 1,200 for two. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table estimates AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month mid-market and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, per subject. In-home rates run higher with travel inside them, at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour. Those are published provider figures, not IB Gram prices; we quote after the free trial.

What happens if you do not have a tutor who knows my child's syllabus?+

We tell you. Cambridge and Pearson separate sciences are well covered at both tiers. Cambridge 0654 double award is covered but thinner, 0653 single award thinner still, and Oxford AQA sciences are our narrowest coverage. When we cannot match well the options are a named wait, a different hour where a better-matched tutor is free, or a discipline specialist with the code-specific gap described openly so you can judge it. We do not take the booking and hope the discipline knowledge covers the difference.

Are your science tutors based in the UAE?+

Some are and some are not, and we would rather say so. A number of our science tutors are UAE residents. Others teach from India, where our in-home service operates, and work with Dubai students over live video scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We do not route UAE families to a non-UAE phone number while implying a local presence, and we claim no office, centre or branch in the UAE because we have none. What affects your child's lesson is whether the tutor knows their syllabus code and is available at their hour.

My child is on the science double award but wants IB Chemistry HL. Is that a problem?+

It is a manageable gap if it is identified in Year 11 rather than in October of DP1. A double award covers all three disciplines with reduced content per discipline, so a student moving into a Higher Level single science starts with thinner foundations than a separate-science candidate. The practical answer is a short bridging block over the summer aimed at the specific topics the double award trimmed, particularly quantitative chemistry. Schools will usually tell you which topics those are if asked directly, and that list makes an efficient four-session plan.

Do private science tutors in Dubai need a licence, and how would I check?+

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted rather than unregulated. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its app, website or e-services. Ask any tutor directly whether they hold it. Individuals without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule.

What information do you need about my child, and what do you do with it?+

Four things: the school, the year group, the syllabus code and tier, and the hour your child is realistically home. Those determine which tutors can take the slot. We do not need grades, report cards or photographs and do not ask for them. If you choose to send a marked past paper it helps the tutor diagnose faster and is used only for that. Under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection you can ask what is held about your child and ask for it to be deleted.

Send us the syllabus code and we will tell you honestly what we have

Get the board, the code, the tier and the practical route from your child's statement of entry or exams officer, and send those four facts with the school and the hour your child is home. We will tell you straight away whether we have a tutor who has taught that exact syllabus, where our coverage is thin, or whether you should wait a week for a better match. The first lesson is free and is a real lesson. IB Gram runs no centre in the UAE and sends no tutors to homes here, so nothing needs arranging beyond a quiet room and a laptop.
