IB DP Math AA HL Home Tutor in Dubai

Parents searching for an IB DP Math AA HL home tutor in Dubai usually want one thing that no brochure supplies: proof the work is moving. IB Gram matches your child to a single Analysis and Approaches HL specialist, and lessons run live online, one-to-one, timed to Gulf Standard Time after the Dubai school run. Every fortnight you see what the tutor sees. A marked Paper 1 annotated question by question. The exploration draft with criterion letters written beside the paragraphs. The distance between the mark on the page and the mark your child is aiming at.

  • Paper 1 returned marked question by question, in mark-scheme wording
  • Exploration feedback written against criteria A to E, on the student's own draft
  • Live video sessions of 60 or 90 minutes, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • A free trial lesson first, and a different specialist if the match misfires

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What changes when an AA HL student in Dubai starts being shown the marks

A search for an IB DP Math AA HL home tutor in Dubai almost always starts with a number that arrived without explanation. A mock grade of 4 for a child who left IGCSE with a grade 8. A predicted 5 where the university offer needs a 6. A report comment that says "needs to show more working" and nothing else. The number is real, and the frustration is that nobody has shown the family what produced it. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is examined across three papers and one piece of coursework, and each of those four components fails in a different way. Until someone separates them, every hour of extra study is a guess.

That separation is the whole of our method on this page. In the first week a tutor works through a complete past Paper 1 under timed conditions, marks it against the published mark scheme, and produces a per-question breakdown: marks earned, marks available, and the reason for each gap. Reasons are not vague. A lost mark is either a topic that was never secure, a method mark forfeited because the working stopped early, an accuracy slip in the final line, or a command term misread. Those four causes need four different responses, and a tutor who cannot tell them apart will spend ten weeks reteaching content the student already knows.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video with a shared whiteboard and a document camera on the student's working. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Dubai address; home visits are a service we run only in India. That is a deliberate trade, and the gain is specific. A family in Emirates Hills or Arabian Ranches is no longer choosing from the AA HL teachers who happen to live within a twenty-minute drive at six in the evening. The pool becomes everybody who teaches the course, and on a Higher Level maths page that difference is not cosmetic: Paper 3 is a specialism, and plenty of capable general maths tutors have never taught it.

The second thing that changes is what a parent receives. Most tutoring in this market is invisible from the outside. You pay, the session happens behind a closed door, and you learn how it went in June. Our tutors keep a running file for each student: the marked scripts with dates, the topic log showing which syllabus sub-topics have been tested and retested, the exploration drafts in sequence with feedback attached, and a single line each fortnight that says what the current working mark is and which component it came from. You can read it without being a mathematician, because it is written in marks rather than adjectives.

Dubai gives this work a particular shape. KHDA counted 387,441 pupils across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the IB accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment. That is a large absolute number of Diploma candidates spread thinly across many schools, which is why a child can be the only AA HL student in their year group who needs help with the Maclaurin series. Online delivery is what makes a genuine subject match possible for that child, and the evidence file is what makes the match accountable.

At a glance

  • AA HL is assessed by Paper 1 at 30%, Paper 2 at 30%, Paper 3 at 20% and the exploration at 20%
  • Paper 1 is sat without any calculator; Papers 2 and 3 assume a graphic display calculator
  • Paper 3 is one hour, 55 marks, and only two questions - a different skill from the other papers
  • The exploration is marked out of 20 against five criteria, A to E, and is internally assessed
  • Market rates for specialist IB maths tuition in Dubai run roughly AED 200-450 per hour
  • Lessons are online one-to-one; IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

AA HL does not begin in Year 12. The habits that decide a Higher Level maths grade are formed in MYP mathematics and in the IGCSE or MYP year that precedes the Diploma. Here is how each programme feeds the course, and what a Dubai family should watch for at each stage.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL is one of six Diploma subjects, taken alongside Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. The guide recommends 240 teaching hours, against 150 at Standard Level. The extra ninety hours are not spread evenly: calculus, geometry and trigonometry, and number and algebra absorb most of them, and that is where Higher Level students who were comfortable at IGCSE most often come unstuck.

Dubai Diploma candidates sit the May session, in common with most Northern Hemisphere IB schools, though a small number of UAE schools enter candidates in November. Exact session windows and results dates change and are published by the IB rather than by us, so confirm them with your child's Diploma coordinator before you plan a revision calendar around them.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP mathematics is assessed against four criteria: knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Students who score well on criterion A and poorly on criterion B arrive in AA HL able to execute a method but unable to start an unfamiliar problem. Paper 3 punishes that profile more than any other component in the Diploma.

Several Dubai schools run the full IB continuum, so a child may move from MYP straight into AA HL inside the same building with no external examination in between. The absence of an IGCSE-style terminal paper means the first timed, externally styled mark many of these students ever see is a DP1 mock, which is a hard place to discover a technique problem.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP teaches mathematics through inquiry rather than through a published syllabus of topics, so attainment is reported against transdisciplinary strands rather than against a grade. Number sense and fluency with fractions, indices and algebraic manipulation are what later turn into AA HL Paper 1 marks, because Paper 1 removes the calculator and leaves nothing to hide behind.

Dubai PYP schools are inspected annually by KHDA and the inspection report comments on attainment and progress in mathematics separately. A report showing good attainment but only acceptable progress is the most useful early signal a parent gets, and it is worth reading before a child picks a Higher Level maths route five years later.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Higher Level maths student rarely needs help with maths alone. The subjects below are the ones Dubai Diploma families most often pair with AA HL, with what each actually assesses and where the marks tend to go.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL

Three papers plus the exploration. Paper 1 is 110 marks in two hours with no calculator, so algebraic fluency is examined directly. Proof, complex numbers, Maclaurin series, vectors and the full calculus toolkit sit in the HL-only content. Marks are lost most often in the final accuracy line and in abandoned method.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL

Two papers of 80 marks each plus the exploration, with no Paper 3. SL shares the structure of HL but stops short of proof by induction, implicit differentiation and the harder integration techniques. A student sliding at HL is sometimes better served by a considered move to SL than by more hours.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The other Diploma maths route, with a calculator permitted in every paper and a far heavier statistics load. AI HL carries its own Paper 3, built from two extended data investigations. Students who switch routes mid-course need the modelling and statistics content rebuilt, not revised.

Physics

HL and SL

The most common pairing with AA HL. The 2023 syllabus assesses Paper 1A multiple choice, Paper 1B data analysis and Paper 2, with the scientific investigation at 20 per cent. Students who can do AA HL calculus often still lose physics marks on uncertainties and on graph gradients with units.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Equilibrium, energetics and organic mechanisms carry the HL weight. The overlap with AA HL is in logarithms for pH and in rate equations, so a student strong in maths should not be losing those marks. Where they do, the cause is usually chemical notation rather than algebra.

Economics

HL and SL

HL economics adds a quantitative paper, and AA HL students usually find the calculation questions straightforward while losing marks on definition and diagram labelling. The internal assessment is three commentaries on published news articles, each with its own word limit.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Paper 1 and Paper 2 plus a solution-development internal assessment. AA HL students take to the algorithmic thinking and the pseudocode, and tend to lose marks on the written paper's extended-response questions about system design and ethics rather than on the code.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

A 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title and an exhibition of three objects. Mathematics is one of TOK's areas of knowledge, so an AA HL student has usable material. The grade combines with the Extended Essay to contribute up to three points towards the Diploma total.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece. A mathematics Extended Essay needs a question that can be answered with mathematics the student actually commands, which for an AA HL candidate is a real advantage and also a trap: ambition outruns the available technique more often than the reverse.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, each suited to a different problem. The choice should follow the marked evidence rather than the calendar, and it can change mid-course without starting again.

Weekly one-to-one, 60 or 90 minutes

The default for a student rebuilding technique across two terms. Ninety minutes is the sensible length once Paper 3 work begins, because a single Paper 3 question can take twenty-five minutes before any discussion of it starts. Sessions run live over video with the student's working visible, and the tutor marks between lessons rather than during them.

  • One named specialist for the whole block, not a rota
  • A marked past-paper question set returned before the next session
  • A fortnightly line to the parent naming the current working mark

Exploration supervision block

A short, bounded set of sessions timed around the school's internal deadlines for the mathematical exploration. The work is the student's throughout. A tutor reads what has been submitted, comments against criteria A to E, and asks the questions an examiner would ask. Nothing is added to the document by the tutor.

  • Feedback keyed to criterion letters and their mark allocations
  • Research-question triage before weeks are spent on an unworkable idea
  • A clear written record of what was advised, in case the school asks

Pre-session intensive

A compressed run of sessions in the weeks before the examinations, built entirely from timed components. Each session is one paper or one half-paper under clock, marked, then debriefed. This format is for students whose content is largely in place and whose marks are being lost to timing, accuracy and command-term reading.

  • Full Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3 attempts under timed conditions
  • A per-topic mark ledger that shows what is still leaking marks
  • Scheduling that bends around study leave and family travel

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a search for an AA HL home tutor in Dubai is actually asking for

An IB DP Math AA HL home tutor in Dubai costs roughly AED 200 to AED 450 an hour at the specialist end of this market, and the thing a parent is buying is not proximity. It is a person who has taught Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level often enough to recognise a Paper 3 problem on sight. IB Gram delivers that as one-to-one tuition over live video to any community in Dubai. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address, and we say so before anybody pays.

The phrase "home tutor" carries a specific expectation in this city, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a redirection. In-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai is widely available, generally priced between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour depending on level and on how far the tutor travels, and it solves a genuine problem for younger children who need an adult physically present to keep them at the table. A seventeen-year-old working through implicit differentiation is not that child. What they need is a specialist, and the specialist in this market is a scarcer thing than a car.

There is a second cost to the in-home model that rarely appears in a quote. Travel compresses the available hours into a narrow evening window, which means a tutor can serve perhaps three or four students a night in one geographic cluster. That constraint is what produces the familiar outcome: a competent generalist who teaches everything from Year 7 maths to A Level, covering AA HL as the hardest thing on their list rather than their subject. The scarcity is not of tutors. It is of Higher Level specialists willing to lose ninety minutes a day to Sheikh Zayed Road.

Online changes the arithmetic. A tutor who teaches from 15:00 to 21:00 Gulf Standard Time without moving can hold a timetable deep enough to specialise, which is why our AA HL tutors teach AA HL rather than maths in general. For the student the practical difference shows up in week one, when the marked Paper 1 comes back with the examiner's own wording in the margin instead of a tick and a score out of 110.

02

The AA HL assessment model, component by component

Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is examined through three written papers and one internally assessed piece of coursework. Paper 1 and Paper 2 each carry 110 marks over two hours and each contributes 30 per cent of the final grade. Paper 3 is one hour, 55 marks, and 20 per cent. The mathematical exploration is marked out of 20 and contributes the remaining 20 per cent. That spread is the reason a single mock percentage tells a parent almost nothing: the same overall mark can come from four completely different profiles.

The calculator divide is the structural fact most families miss. Paper 1 is sat with no calculator of any kind, so every mark on it depends on algebraic fluency the student can produce by hand. Papers 2 and 3 assume a graphic display calculator and are written on that assumption, which means they reward a different set of skills: knowing which calculator routine answers the question, reading a graph screen correctly, and recording enough working that method marks survive even when the final value is wrong. A student who revises by doing calculator-permitted questions and then sits Paper 1 is practising the wrong paper.

Paper 3 deserves separate attention because it is unlike anything else in Diploma mathematics. It contains two extended problem-solving questions that develop an unfamiliar idea in stages, each part building on the last. There is no content on Paper 3 that is not elsewhere in the syllabus, and that is precisely why content revision does not raise a Paper 3 mark. What raises it is practice at being led through unfamiliar territory without panicking at part (c), and the discipline of answering part (a) fully enough that part (b) is reachable.

The exploration is the only component where the student controls the timetable, and the only one where a tutor's role is narrow and must be stated plainly. The work must be the student's own throughout. A tutor reads a submitted draft, comments against the published criteria, flags where the mathematics is not yet at Higher Level depth, and asks the questions a moderator would ask. The tutor adds nothing to the document.

Reading a marked Paper 1 script: the diagnosis that starts the work

The first session with a new AA HL student produces a document, not a feeling. The student sits a complete past Paper 1 under timed conditions, with no calculator, and the tutor marks it against the published mark scheme rather than impressionistically. The output is a per-question table: marks earned, marks available, and a single coded reason for each gap. Four codes cover almost everything. Content not secure. Method abandoned before the method mark was earned. Accuracy slip in the final line. Command term misread.

Those four causes have nothing in common as teaching problems. Content gaps need reteaching, which is slow and takes weeks. Abandoned method needs a habit change, which can be fixed inside three sessions because the mathematics is already there. Accuracy slips respond to a checking routine and to writing one more line than feels necessary. Misread command terms are a reading problem, and the fix is a short drill on what "hence", "show that", "find the exact value" and "justify" each require, because each of those carries a different obligation in the mark scheme.

A worked example from this market. A DP1 student arrives with 54 out of 110 on Paper 1 and a school prediction of 4. The breakdown shows 11 marks lost to incomplete working on questions where the final answer was right, 9 to sign errors in integration, 14 to genuinely unlearned HL content in complex numbers, and the remainder spread thinly. That is not a child who needs the course retaught. Twenty of those marks are available within a month, and the complex numbers block is a defined piece of work with an end date. The prediction is wrong in a way that is demonstrable, which is a different conversation to have with a school than a vague appeal.

The marked script also settles the HL-or-SL question honestly. A student losing marks to technique and habit at HL will usually stay at HL and gain. A student whose breakdown is almost entirely unlearned content eighteen months before the examinations is being asked to carry 240 hours of mathematics on a foundation that is not there, and the conversation about Standard Level should happen early, while the school can still act on it, rather than in the term before the papers.

The mathematical exploration, criterion by criterion

The exploration is worth 20 per cent of the AA HL grade and is marked out of 20 against five criteria. The IB recommends a length of twelve to twenty pages. Students lose marks here with remarkable consistency, and almost never for the reason they expect. The mathematics in a weak exploration is often perfectly correct; what is missing is the reflection, the personal engagement and the mathematical communication that three of the five criteria exist to reward.

Criterion E, use of mathematics, carries six of the twenty marks and is where Higher Level candidates are judged against Higher Level expectations. An exploration that applies only material from the Standard Level syllabus cannot reach the top band however neatly it is presented. This is the single most useful thing a specialist can tell a student in week one of the exploration, because it is a decision about topic choice, and topic choice cannot be repaired in the final fortnight.

Criterion D, reflection, is worth three marks and is the cheapest to improve. Reflection means commenting on what the mathematics showed, what its limitations were, and what a different approach would have produced. Students treat it as a concluding paragraph; examiners expect it throughout. Criterion C, personal engagement, also carries three marks and is earned by independent thought rather than by writing that the topic is interesting. The two presentation and communication criteria, A and B, carry four marks each and reward a coherent structure, defined notation and consistent use of symbols.

What a tutor may and may not do here is not a matter of house style. Under IB academic-honesty rules the exploration must be entirely the student's own work. A tutor may discuss the choice of topic, comment on a submitted draft, point out where a claim is unsupported, and explain what a criterion rewards. A tutor may not supply text, rework the student's paragraphs, or hand over mathematics for insertion. Several providers in this market sell finished coursework. That is malpractice for the student and the consequence falls on the candidate, not on the seller.

Twelve weeks of evidence: what progress actually looks like

The brief for this page is evidence, so here is the shape of a first block in practice. Twelve weeks is long enough for content to be rebuilt and short enough that a family can judge whether the arrangement is working before committing to a year. Each fortnight produces one artefact a parent can read, and each artefact triggers a decision rather than a comment.

Weeks one and two establish the baseline: a full timed Paper 1, marked, with the per-question breakdown. Weeks three and four take the largest single cause of lost marks and address only that. If the diagnosis was abandoned method, the work is rewriting old answers to mark-scheme standard, which feels unglamorous and moves marks faster than anything else available. Weeks five and six introduce Paper 2 under timed conditions, because calculator technique is a separate skill and a student can be fluent on paper and clumsy on the screen.

Weeks seven and eight are the first Paper 3 attempt. Almost every student scores badly on their first Paper 3 and the mark is not the point; what the tutor is looking for is where the student stopped, and whether they stopped because they could not do the mathematics or because they did not believe they could. Weeks nine and ten return to the weakest topic for a retest, comparing like with like against the week-one script. Weeks eleven and twelve produce a second full Paper 1 under the same conditions as the first, and the comparison of those two scripts is the only honest measure of whether the block worked.

No tutor can promise a particular grade and no honest provider in this market will. What can be promised is that the evidence will be in front of you, dated, and that a block which is not working will be visible by week six rather than in the summer. If the second Paper 1 has not moved and the topic retests have not moved, the right response is to change something: the tutor, the format, or the level. That decision is easier to make with two marked scripts on the table than with a reassuring message.

What AA HL tuition costs in Dubai, and what moves the number

Three of the six competitor pages we examined for this market publish no price at all, and two of those that do quote in US dollars, a currency Dubai families do not transact in. The table below sets out what the market charges in AED per hour by provider model, with the source of each figure. These are market rates, not an IB Gram price list. Our own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson and a consultation, because the right number depends on the level, the number of components in play and how many weeks remain.

Four things move an AA HL quote upwards. Higher Level rather than Standard Level is the first, and it is justified: the tutor pool that can teach Paper 3 confidently is genuinely smaller. The second is proximity to the examination session, since specialist availability tightens through the spring. The third is in-home delivery, where the travel is embedded in the hourly rate whether or not anybody itemises it. The fourth is exploration supervision, which is marking-heavy work done between sessions rather than inside them.

Two things move it down without reducing quality. Ninety-minute sessions usually cost less per hour than sixty-minute ones, because the tutor's scheduling overhead is spread further, and ninety minutes is the right length for Paper 3 work in any case. Booking a defined block rather than paying week to week also tends to reduce the rate, though no family should commit to a long block before a trial lesson has happened and a first script has been marked.

Context helps. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. Against a school fee that is holding flat, a tutoring decision is easier to size: one weekly session at mid-market specialist rates sits in the same monthly band Bestimate describes for exam-year support, roughly AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and upwards.

Online one-to-one against a tutor in the room, for a Higher Level maths student

This comparison is the reason the page exists, so it is set out with the costs and the trade-offs visible rather than argued. In-home tuition buys presence. A tutor in the room can see a student's body language, intervene before frustration sets in, and remove the option of a quiet refusal to engage. For a nine-year-old that is worth a great deal. For a Diploma candidate working on Paper 3, the deciding variable is whether the adult in the room has taught Paper 3.

Online one-to-one buys match quality and recoverable time. A family in Arabian Ranches or Dubai Hills is no longer constrained to tutors who can reach them by 17:30; the shortlist becomes everyone who teaches AA HL at the hour required. The travel hour disappears from both sides of the arrangement, which in practice means a session can run at 20:00 on a school night without anybody driving home afterwards, and a Ramadan timetable can move to post-Iftar slots without renegotiating anything.

The honest limitations of online delivery are worth naming. A student who will not sit down without an adult physically present will not be rescued by better software. Handwritten mathematics needs either a document camera or a graphics tablet, and a laptop camera pointed at a desk is not enough for marking algebra line by line. Household internet in older Dubai buildings occasionally cannot sustain two video streams at once. Each of those is solvable, and each should be tested in the free trial rather than discovered in week three.

IB Gram's position is settled and consistent with every other country page on this site: tuition for UAE families is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. We do not operate home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the Emirates, and in-home tutoring is something we offer only in India. If a family in the UAE decides a tutor in the room is the right answer, the sensible next step is to verify that the person holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is issued free of charge and can be asked for directly.

KHDA, the mandatory subjects and the timetable a Dubai tutor has to fit into

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually and publishes a judgement on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, with attainment and progress reported separately by subject. For a maths parent the useful reading is not the headline band but the mathematics line, and particularly a report showing acceptable progress alongside good attainment, which describes a cohort coasting.

The emirate's school sector is unusually large and still growing. KHDA recorded 387,441 pupils in 227 private schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, with UK programmes at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the IB at 7. Seven new private schools are opening for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, adding 16,846 places after a year in which enrolment rose six per cent. More Diploma places means more Higher Level maths candidates spread across more schools, each with a thinner subject cohort than the city's size suggests.

The timetable a tutor fits into is also shaped by KHDA's mandatory-subject requirements. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit. Those lessons sit inside the same week as six Diploma subjects, so an AA HL student's free evenings are fewer than a parent assumes.

None of this makes KHDA a party to private tutoring. The authority licenses schools and, separately, issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises. IB Gram holds neither, and no honest page should imply otherwise. Marketing that pairs the regulator's initials with the word "approved" and attaches it to a tutor is common in this market and almost always meaningless; a parent should treat it as a reason to ask harder questions rather than as a credential.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Dubai's Diploma families are not evenly spread, and neither are the schools that offer Higher Level maths. These are the communities our AA HL enquiries come from, with the detail that changes when a session can start.

Emirates Hills and The Meadows

Feeds Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Emirates International School Meadows, both offering the full Diploma. Sessions here commonly start at 17:00 or later because of after-school commitments on the same campus.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The densest cluster of IB continuum schools in the city. A 16:30 start is realistic for students who walk or take a short bus, and these families more often ask for twin sessions covering AA HL and Physics HL in one week.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

Villa communities served by Jumeirah English Speaking School Arabian Ranches. The drive to Al Barsha or Emirates Hills in evening traffic is the single reason most Ranches families we speak to abandoned the idea of a tutor travelling to them.

Dubai Hills Estate

A newer community whose Diploma candidates are often split across several schools in different districts. Online delivery matters more here than almost anywhere, because the nearest AA HL teacher is rarely the right AA HL teacher.

Mirdif and Nad Al Sheba

Uptown School and GEMS Modern Academy both run the IB continuum, so students arrive in DP1 without an external IGCSE benchmark. First marked past paper in week one is particularly valuable for this group.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Served by Raffles World Academy, Jumeira Baccalaureate School and Emirates International School Jumeirah. Sessions often sit late, after 19:00, which rules out most tutors who would otherwise be finishing a day of travel.

Dubai Festival City and Al Garhoud

Deira International School's Diploma cohort sits here. Students crossing the creek for anything after school lose an hour each way in peak traffic, which is an hour that could have been spent on Paper 3 technique.

Downtown Dubai, Business Bay and Al Jaddaf

Apartment living, and Swiss International Scientific School Dubai nearby. Space for a tutor to sit alongside a student is genuinely scarce in these households, and a quiet desk with a laptop is easier to find than a spare room.

These schools between them run PYP, MYP and DP, which means a child can meet Higher Level maths having never sat an external examination. Students we support attend them; IB Gram has no relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the course, not just the subject

Analysis and Approaches HL, the school, the year group and the current mark if there is one. Naming the exact course matters: a request for a maths tutor and a request for an AA HL tutor reach different people. If there is a recent marked paper or a report comment, send it with the enquiry.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson with a named specialist

You see who will teach, and the tutor sees the student work. The trial is a working session rather than a sales call: the student attempts questions and the tutor forms a view on where the marks are going. If the match is wrong, say so and we introduce someone else before any payment is made.

  3. 03

A marked baseline paper in week one

A complete past Paper 1 under timed conditions, marked against the published mark scheme, returned with a per-question breakdown. This is the document everything afterwards is measured against, which is why it is sat properly rather than informally. It also tends to settle the question of whether a prediction is fair.

  4. 04

A dated plan, then fortnightly evidence

The plan names which component is being worked on, in what order, and what will be retested when. Every fortnight you receive the marked work and one line stating the current working mark and where it came from. The plan changes when the evidence says so, not on a schedule.

  5. 05

A review before the next block

At the end of a block the second baseline paper is compared with the first, under the same conditions. If the marks have moved, the next block is built on what worked. If they have not, we change the tutor, the format or the level, and we say which. No family should be asked to extend a block on the strength of encouragement alone.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One specialist, named before you pay

You know who is teaching your child before the first paid session, and that person stays for the block. A rota of interchangeable tutors cannot hold the thread of a diagnosis across twelve weeks, and the per-question breakdown from week one is worthless if the person who wrote it has moved on by week five.

Marking against the published mark scheme

Work comes back with the examiner's wording, not a tick and a score. A student who can see that two marks were available for a line they omitted will write that line next time. This is the slowest part of a tutor's week and the part most providers quietly skip, which is why it is written into the arrangement here.

Paper 3 treated as its own subject

Twenty per cent of the Higher Level grade sits in one hour and two questions, and it rewards a skill the other papers do not examine. Our AA HL tutors work on it as a distinct strand from the first term rather than as a revision afterthought, because confidence with unfamiliar stems is built slowly.

Honest limits on exploration support

The exploration must be the student's own work and our tutors hold that line in writing. Feedback is keyed to criteria A to E, questions are asked, nothing is inserted. Providers in this market sell finished coursework; the consequence of that falls on the candidate, and no family should be exposed to it by a tutor.

Delivery stated plainly, before the money

Lessons are online, one-to-one, over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE and does not keep a Dubai office. Two providers in this market route Emirates enquiries to overseas phone numbers without saying so; stating the model up front is the cheapest form of trust available.

A visible fallback when nobody is free

AA HL Paper 3 specialists are not infinite, and the evening slots either side of 18:00 fill first. If nobody suitable is available at the hour you need, you are told that, with the alternatives: a different slot, a different week, or a tutor outside the UAE time zone whose availability is stated before you decide.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Does an AA HL home tutor in Dubai come to our villa, or is this online?+

This is online. IB Gram matches your child to an Analysis and Approaches HL specialist and the sessions run live over video, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address; in-home visits are a service we run only in India. The phrase "home tutor" is what parents search for in this city, so the page uses it, but the delivery is stated before anybody pays. For a Higher Level maths candidate the trade is usually favourable: the shortlist stops being whoever can reach your community by 17:30 and becomes everybody who teaches the course.

What is in AA HL Paper 3 and why does it cost so many marks?+

Paper 3 is one hour, 55 marks and twenty per cent of the Higher Level grade, and it contains only two questions. Each develops an unfamiliar idea in stages, with later parts depending on earlier ones. No content appears on Paper 3 that is not already in the syllabus, which is why revising topics does not raise the mark. What raises it is practice at being led somewhere unfamiliar without stalling, and answering part (a) completely enough that part (b) remains reachable. Most students score poorly on their first attempt, and the useful information is where they stopped rather than the total.

My son got a grade 8 in IGCSE maths and is on a 4 in AA HL. What happened?+

Usually three things at once. IGCSE rewarded answers; Paper 1 at Higher Level rewards working, and students who skipped lines profitably for two years lose method marks immediately. The calculator was permitted throughout IGCSE, while AA HL Paper 1 removes it entirely, so weak algebraic fluency that was hidden becomes visible. And the HL-only content, including proof, complex numbers and the harder calculus, is genuinely new. A marked Paper 1 separates these causes within a week, and the mix matters: abandoned method can be fixed in three sessions, unlearned content takes a term.

How much should we expect to pay for Analysis and Approaches HL tuition in Dubai?+

Published market rates for specialist IB tuition in Dubai run roughly AED 200 to AED 450 an hour, with Unitors advertising IB from AED 200, TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 rate table reaching AED 450 and above for exam-year specialists. In-home visits are priced higher, generally AED 180 to AED 500, because travel is embedded in the rate. Those are market figures, not ours. IB Gram quotes after a free trial lesson, since the number depends on level, how many components are in play and how many weeks remain before the session.

Can a tutor help with the mathematical exploration without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, within clear limits. The exploration must be entirely the student's own work. A tutor may discuss topic choice, read a submitted draft, comment against criteria A to E, point out where a claim is unsupported, and say plainly when the mathematics sits below Higher Level depth. A tutor may not supply text, rewrite paragraphs or hand over mathematics for insertion. Criterion E carries six of the twenty marks and is where HL expectations bite, so the most valuable advice usually arrives at the topic-choice stage rather than during the final fortnight.

How does a tutor mark my daughter's algebra if the lesson is over video?+

Two ways, and both should be tested in the free trial rather than assumed. During the session the student writes on paper under a document camera or a phone on a stand, or writes directly on a graphics tablet shared to the screen, so the tutor watches the working appear line by line rather than seeing a finished answer. Between sessions the student photographs completed questions and sends them, and the tutor marks them against the mark scheme and returns annotated pages. A laptop camera pointed vaguely at a desk is not sufficient for marking algebra.

Should my child move from AA HL to AA SL, and when is it too late?+

The marked evidence usually answers this better than a conversation does. A student losing marks to technique, pacing and abandoned method at Higher Level will generally stay and gain. A student whose breakdown is mostly unlearned HL content, eighteen months out, is carrying 240 hours of mathematics on a foundation that is not there. Standard Level drops Paper 3 and the harder calculus and proof content while keeping the same exploration. Timing is set by your school and by IB registration rather than by us, so raise it with the Diploma coordinator early, while a change is still administratively possible.

Why is Paper 1 sat without a calculator, and how should revision change for it?+

Paper 1 is written to examine algebraic fluency directly, so no calculator of any kind is permitted. Papers 2 and 3 assume a graphic display calculator and are written on that assumption. The practical consequence is that a student who revises using calculator-permitted questions is rehearsing the wrong paper. Revision needs splitting: non-calculator work for exact values, surds, logarithms and integration by hand, and separate calculator sessions for the screen routines, graph reading and recording enough working that method marks survive a wrong final value.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and how do I check one has it?+

Individuals giving private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ask any in-person tutor to show the permit directly.

What evidence will we actually see, and how often?+

Every fortnight, three things. The marked work from that period, annotated question by question in mark-scheme wording. The topic log, showing which syllabus sub-topics have been tested, retested and closed. And one line naming the current working mark and which component it came from, so you can tell a Paper 1 problem from an exploration problem. At the end of a twelve-week block a second full Paper 1 is sat under the same conditions as the first, and those two scripts side by side are the honest measure of whether the block worked.

We have ten weeks before the examinations. Is it worth starting AA HL tuition now?+

Often yes, but the plan has to change. Ten weeks is not enough to rebuild unlearned Higher Level content across five topics, and pretending otherwise wastes the time. It is enough to recover marks that are already nearly earned: completing working so method marks register, a checking routine for accuracy, command-term reading, and pacing so the last twenty minutes of Paper 1 stop collapsing. A marked baseline paper in week one shows how many of those marks exist. If the answer is twenty or more, the block is worth running. If it is five, we will say so.

Will five IGCSE passes plus AA HL satisfy UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

The British-track rule is published and specific: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. For the IB there is no points threshold we are willing to publish, because we have not read one on the Ministry's own site, and one ranking competitor already states a wrong IGCSE subject count. Check the IB position on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate attestation authority directly. Equivalency is a Ministry process; no tutor performs it.

Can the same tutor take AA HL and Physics HL, or do we need two people?+

Both arrangements exist and the choice should follow the diagnosis. One tutor covering both subjects keeps the scheduling simple and lets the calculus in AA HL be used deliberately in physics, which helps students who treat the two as unrelated. The argument for two specialists is sharper at Higher Level: physics under the 2023 syllabus examines data analysis, uncertainties and a scientific investigation marked against four criteria, and that is a different expertise from Paper 3 problem-solving in mathematics. We will say honestly which of the two a particular tutor can carry.

What happens if no AA HL specialist is free in our evening slot?+

You are told, before you pay. Higher Level maths specialists who are confident with Paper 3 are a smaller group than general maths tutors, and the slots either side of 18:00 Gulf Standard Time fill first. The options are then stated plainly: a different hour in the same week, a wait for a named tutor to free up, or a specialist in another time zone whose availability is given to you before you decide. No competitor page in the research we did discloses a coverage limit at all, which is why this one does.

Can sessions move during Ramadan or while the family is travelling?+

Yes, and this is one of the practical advantages of online delivery. Ramadan timetables in Dubai shorten the school day and shift family routines, so sessions commonly move to post-Iftar slots for that period and then return. Travel is handled the same way: the lesson follows the student rather than the address, so a fortnight in another time zone becomes a scheduling conversation rather than a gap. Study leave and examination weeks are usually the right time to pause, and that pause should be agreed in advance rather than cancelled session by session.

Start with one marked paper

If you are weighing up an IB DP Math AA HL home tutor in Dubai, the cheapest useful step is not a longer shortlist. It is one complete Paper 1, sat under timed conditions and marked against the published mark scheme, so the four causes of lost marks can be separated. Book a free trial lesson with an Analysis and Approaches HL specialist, see who will teach and how they mark, then decide. Lessons run online, one-to-one, in Gulf Standard Time, and the evidence file is yours to read from week one.
