IB IGCSE Tutor for Raffles World Academy Students in Dubai

Parents searching for an IB IGCSE tutor for Raffles World Academy students in Dubai are usually asking one of two questions: whether Year 11 is on track for the grades the Diploma needs, or whether a Year 12 subject has already slipped. IB Gram answers both the same way, with one-to-one teaching over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and the school's own assessment calendar in front of the tutor. Lessons are online; no tutor travels to a UAE address.

  • One-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, never a group class
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE codes both covered, including 0580 and 4MA1
  • IA and Extended Essay work is coached and marked, never produced for the student
  • AED figures on this page are market rates with the source named, not our price list

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What a Raffles World Academy family is actually buying when they book a tutor

Raffles World Academy sits in Umm Suqeim 3, and it runs one of the less common routes through a Dubai secondary school: an IB continuum underneath, IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11, and the IB Diploma Programme on top. That combination is why a search for an IB IGCSE tutor for Raffles World Academy students in Dubai is not the same search as one for a straight British school. A student here can move from Middle Years criterion marking to a Cambridge grade scale and then back to Diploma criterion marking inside thirty months. Each of those three systems rewards something different, and a tutor who does not know which one your child is being graded against this term will teach the wrong thing competently.

Confirm the exact subject list with the school before you book anything. Schools in Dubai revise their option blocks every few years, and the number of IGCSE subjects a cohort sits, the boards they sit them with, and which subjects run as Middle Years courses instead, all change. The school's own curriculum page and the head of secondary are the authority on that, not a tutoring site. What does not change is the shape of the problem: Year 11 produces a set of letter grades that the Diploma coordinator reads as a prediction, and Year 12 then asks for a different kind of writing within weeks of those grades arriving.

The gap between those two things is where most of the tutoring demand on this page comes from. An Extended-tier IGCSE paper asks a student to execute a known method under time pressure. A Diploma Higher Level paper asks the same student to choose a method, justify the choice, and comment on its limits. A child who scored a 7 at IGCSE by being fast and accurate can lose two grade points in the first Diploma term without doing anything wrong, because speed and accuracy are now the floor rather than the ceiling. That is a teachable transition, and it is far cheaper to teach in Year 11 than to repair in Year 12.

IB Gram matches one tutor to one student and keeps that pairing. Sessions run over live video with a shared whiteboard, screen-shared past papers and a written note at the end of each hour. We do not send a tutor to a Dubai address; in-home visiting is a service IB Gram offers only in India, and saying so plainly is more useful to you than pretending otherwise. The practical effect for an Umm Suqeim family is that the pool is no longer limited to whoever can reach Umm Suqeim 3 by four in the afternoon.

Everything on this page that carries a number carries its source. The AED bands below are what the Dubai market charges, attributed to the provider who published them. The regulator facts come from u.ae and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority's own documents. The Cambridge and Pearson calendar points come from the boards. Where a figure could not be verified, this page says so instead of filling the gap.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Raffles World Academy student may be sitting any of four different assessment systems depending on their year group. These are the four, with what each one measures and what it means for a Dubai family planning tuition around it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

Two years of linear courses ending in external written papers, graded A*-G on the Cambridge scale or 9-1 on the Pearson scale. Cambridge syllabuses tier into Core and Extended; Pearson Mathematics A tiers into Foundation and Higher while the Pearson sciences are single-tier. Nothing in a Cambridge IGCSE science is coursework any more, so the practical skills are assessed in a written paper.

In Dubai, the IGCSE grade set does double duty. It is the qualification the Ministry of Education equivalency route counts, where five accredited subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3 are required and Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from that count. It is also the evidence a Diploma coordinator uses when deciding whether a Higher Level request is realistic.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an internally assessed component worth roughly a fifth of the grade, marked against named criteria by the teacher and moderated externally. The final score runs to 45 points including up to three bonus points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.

Dubai's Diploma cohort is a small slice of a very large private sector. International Baccalaureate programmes accounted for about seven per cent of private-school enrolment in the 2024-25 figures published by Dubai's media office, against 37 per cent on UK curricula. That minority position is exactly why a specialist Higher Level tutor is harder to find locally than a general maths tutor, and why online matching widens the pool so much.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked out of eight and converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries. There is no final examination in the Cambridge sense. Students are judged on inquiry, communication, critical thinking and reflection, which is a different skill set from executing a known method under timed conditions.

Dubai families moving a child into a continuum school mid-year often arrive from a CBSE or American system where marks come from tests. The adjustment is to criterion language: a Year 9 student who writes a correct answer with no reasoning can score well below a weaker student who shows their thinking. Tutoring here is largely about teaching the student to read the criterion descriptors.

UAEAll year groups

Mandatory UAE subjects

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run alongside the licensed international curriculum in every Dubai private school. Arabic is streamed by first-language and additional-language status, and Islamic Education is streamed for Arab and non-Arab students, with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority requiring that classes for the two groups are organised separately rather than combined.

The authority's guidance calculates mandatory-subject time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises that no mandatory lesson runs shorter than 25 minutes. It also prohibits the use of different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission, which limits how any tutor may describe Arabic or Islamic Education support.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Dubai families most often ask about at Extended tier and at Higher Level. Each line names what the assessment actually rewards, because that is where the grade is won rather than in topic coverage.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Higher Level runs three papers at 30, 30 and 20 per cent with the exploration at 20 per cent. Paper 3 is the one Dubai students under-prepare: two long structured investigations where the first mark depends on reading an unfamiliar context correctly. Proof by induction, complex numbers in polar form and the Maclaurin series are the usual pressure points.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Extended tier sits Papers 2 and 4, each worth half the grade, one short-answer and one structured. The Extended-only content that costs marks is function notation with composite and inverse functions, histograms with unequal class widths, and vectors in column form. Core candidates cannot be awarded above grade C, which makes the tier decision a grade ceiling decision.

Physics

IGCSE 0625 or 4PH1, IB HL and SL

Cambridge 0625 Extended runs a multiple-choice paper at 30 per cent, a theory paper at 50 per cent and a practical or alternative-to-practical paper at 20 per cent. The written practical paper is where Dubai candidates lose the most: it tests graph-plotting discipline, significant figures and the wording of a conclusion, none of which improve by revising content.

Chemistry

IGCSE 0620 or 4CH1, IB HL and SL

Moles arithmetic is the single largest source of lost marks at IGCSE Extended, and it reappears at Diploma level as the quantitative thread through energetics and equilibrium. At Higher Level, organic mechanisms are marked for curly-arrow placement and intermediate charge, so a correct product with a wrong mechanism scores partially and a student rarely knows why.

Biology

IGCSE 0610 or 4BI1, IB HL and SL

The content is accessible and the marking is not. IGCSE Extended rewards precise command-term response, so a student who explains when asked to describe loses marks on knowledge they clearly hold. At Diploma level the scientific investigation carries a fifth of the grade and is marked on research design and evaluation rather than on how clean the data looked.

English Language and Literature

IB HL and SL; IGCSE 0500 and 0510

The Diploma individual oral asks a student to link a global issue to one literary and one non-literary extract in ten minutes. Dubai students who read widely still score poorly here because the oral is a structured argument, not a discussion. IGCSE First Language 0500 rewards directed writing that holds register, which is a drillable skill.

Economics

IB HL and SL

Three commentaries on published news articles form the internal assessment, 800 words each, and the diagram is the mark. Students write good prose around a diagram that does not show the effect they describe. Higher Level Paper 3 is quantitative and heavily templated, which makes it the fastest paper on which to gain points with a tutor.

Business Management

IB HL and SL

The Higher Level internal assessment is a research project on a real organisation, and the most common failure is a question that cannot be answered with the evidence a sixteen-year-old can actually obtain in Dubai. Fixing the research question in the first fortnight is worth more than any amount of later redrafting.

Computer Science

IGCSE 0478, IB HL and SL

IGCSE 0478 splits into computer systems and algorithms, and the algorithm paper is marked on pseudocode discipline rather than on whether the logic would compile. At Diploma level the Higher Level extension covers object-oriented programming and abstract data structures, where tracing a recursive call by hand is the skill that opens up the paper.

Arabic as an Additional Language

Mandatory stream

Non-Arab students in Dubai private schools take Arabic as an additional language throughout their schooling, and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority requires the stream to be taught separately from the first-language stream. Support here is reading fluency and script confidence rather than examination technique, and it benefits from short, frequent sessions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every request that arrives from an Umm Suqeim family. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, with the student sharing their own exercise book or draft on screen.

Weekly one-to-one through the school year

A fixed slot held for the same student each week, following the school's own unit sequence rather than running a parallel syllabus. Used most often in Year 10 and Year 12, where the aim is to stop a gap forming rather than to close one. The tutor writes a short note after each session naming what was covered and what the student should practise.

  • Same tutor, same time, held across the full term
  • Work set from the school's current unit, not a separate scheme
  • A written end-of-session note every week
  • Pause available for mock weeks and family travel

Exploration, Extended Essay and investigation coaching

Structured sessions on the student's own draft, mapped to the named assessment criteria. The tutor reads what the student has written, marks it against the criterion descriptors, and tells them which criterion is costing marks. The tutor does not supply text, and the student's draft remains entirely their own work.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback against the published descriptors
  • Research-question clinic before any writing starts
  • Data and diagram review rather than text supply
  • A record of what the student changed, in their own words

Intensive run-up to a written series

A compressed block in the weeks before a Cambridge or Pearson series, built on timed papers rather than content revision. Each session marks a paper the student sat cold, identifies the two or three repeating error types, and drills those. This format suits a student whose content knowledge is sound and whose paper technique is not.

  • Timed paper sat before the session, marked during it
  • Error log kept across the block so patterns surface
  • Command-term drilling on the subject's own mark scheme language
  • Two or three sessions a week for a short, defined period

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What this search actually means for a Year 11 or Year 12 student here

  • Two mark schemes, one tutor: Cambridge or Pearson in Year 11, criterion marking in Year 12
  • Sessions between 5:30pm and 8pm Gulf Standard Time are the realistic weekday window
  • A trial lesson before any commitment, with the student deciding
  • One tutor held across the term rather than a rotating pool

An IB IGCSE tutor for Raffles World Academy students in Dubai is, in practice, a tutor who can hold two mark schemes in mind at once. Year 11 is being graded by Cambridge or Pearson examiners against a published mark scheme that rewards the right answer by the right method. Year 12 is being graded against criterion descriptors that reward judgement and reflection. A tutor who only knows one of those systems will give advice that is correct for the wrong year group.

The practical test when you speak to a tutor is simple. Ask what the command word describe requires that explain does not, and then ask what criterion A on the mathematics exploration is actually called. A tutor who answers both quickly has taught both systems. A tutor who answers one well and talks around the other has not, and that is worth knowing before a term's fees are committed.

Timing matters as much as subject knowledge. Raffles World Academy students begin early, and the school day ends in the heat of the afternoon. A session that starts at three is a session with a tired student in it. Most families on this page settle on a slot between half past five and eight, which is only possible when the tutor does not have to drive anywhere. That single constraint is why online delivery is not a compromise here but the thing that makes a specialist slot available at all.

The last element is continuity. A student who sees a different tutor each month restates the same problem each month. IB Gram holds the pairing for as long as it works, and changes it on request rather than on rotation. The free trial lesson exists so that the decision about whether the pairing works is made by the student after an hour of real teaching, not by a parent after reading a profile.

02

Core or Extended: the tier decision that sets a grade ceiling

Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses offer two tiers in most subjects, and the choice is made by the school on the school's evidence, usually late in Year 10. It is not a presentational difference. A Core candidate in Mathematics 0580 sits Papers 1 and 3 and cannot be awarded above grade C. An Extended candidate sits Papers 2 and 4 and is in contention for A*. The content overlaps substantially, but the Extended-only material is the part that appears in every Diploma prerequisite conversation afterwards.

Pearson works differently and parents mix the two up constantly. Pearson International GCSE Mathematics A tiers into Foundation and Higher, with Higher covering grades 9 to 4 and a grade 3 allowed below it. The Pearson international sciences are single-tier, so a candidate sits one route to the full 9-1 range. That means a child who moves between a Cambridge school and a Pearson school mid-course is not simply changing syllabus codes; they may be changing whether a tier decision exists at all.

For a student heading into the Diploma, the tier question is really a question about Higher Level. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level assumes the Extended-tier algebra and functions content as a starting point, not as something to be met for the first time in Year 12. A student placed on Core in Year 10 who then wants Higher Level mathematics has roughly a term of algebra to acquire that their classmates already have, and that is the most common piece of catch-up work this page is asked for.

The honest advice is to have the tier conversation with the school in the first term of Year 10, not the last. Schools move students between tiers on evidence, and the evidence is the work produced in that first year. Tuition in Year 10 that secures an Extended placement is cheaper and less stressful than tuition in Year 12 trying to bridge the consequence of a Core placement.

Where Raffles World Academy students lose marks, subject by subject

  • Function notation and composite functions in Extended mathematics
  • Cambridge Paper 6 technique: scales, precision and conclusion wording
  • Personal engagement and reflection criteria on the mathematics exploration
  • Command-term discipline across every subject and both mark schemes

Lost marks cluster, and they cluster in the same places across Dubai cohorts because the causes are structural rather than personal. In IGCSE Extended mathematics, the cluster is function notation. A student who can solve an equation flawlessly will mishandle a composite function written as fg of x, because the notation reads right to left and almost nothing else in school mathematics does. Three sessions on notation alone routinely move a paper mark more than three sessions on new content.

In the Cambridge sciences, the cluster is the practical paper. Paper 6 asks for a conclusion in the mark scheme's own language, a graph drawn with a sensible scale, and readings quoted to a consistent precision. None of that is content, so revising content does not fix it, and a student who has only ever been marked on content will not know it is being assessed. This is the most reliable twenty per cent of a Cambridge science grade to improve with a tutor.

At Diploma level, the cluster moves to reflection. Mathematics exploration criteria allocate marks to personal engagement and reflection, and these are the criteria Dubai students score lowest on, because they read as padding to a student trained on IGCSE efficiency. They are not padding; they are a quarter of the exploration marks. Teaching a student to write a genuine reflective paragraph about a method that did not work is a specific, learnable skill.

The fourth cluster is command terms, and it runs across every subject and both systems. A student who writes an excellent explanation in answer to a question that said state has produced a correct response that scores nothing extra and burned four minutes. Tutors on this page keep a running error log per student precisely so these patterns become visible rather than being rediscovered each term.

04

From IGCSE to the Diploma: the gap Year 11 does not close

The transition into Year 12 is the most expensive moment in this whole page if it goes wrong, and the most avoidable. The reason is that IGCSE finishes in May or June and the Diploma starts in late August, so the handover happens across a summer when nobody is teaching. A student who leaves Year 11 with a specific, named gap arrives in Year 12 with the same gap plus eight weeks of forgetting on top of it.

The gaps are predictable by subject. In mathematics it is algebraic fluency and the habit of working symbolically rather than numerically. In the sciences it is quantitative handling: moles at IGCSE becomes the arithmetic spine of Diploma chemistry, and a student who guessed their way through it will stall in the first unit. In the essay subjects it is the move from a structured answer to a sustained argument with a thesis that survives three paragraphs.

A short summer block is unusually cost-effective here because it is short. Six to eight hours spread across July and August, aimed at one named gap, is a far smaller commitment than a term of remedial work in Year 12 while the new syllabus is also being taught. Families who do this tend to report that the first Diploma unit test stopped being the shock it was for their older child.

Where a student is moving into the Diploma from outside the school's own Middle Years route, the gap list is different again and needs reading individually. A student arriving from a CBSE Class 10 has strong procedural mathematics and little experience of extended writing. A student arriving from an American middle school has the opposite. Neither profile is a problem, but both are badly served by a generic bridging course.

What IGCSE and IB tutoring costs in Dubai, with the source for every figure

Start with the cheapest thing in the market and work up, because that is the order a budget is actually built in. The lowest published rates in Dubai come from online platforms using university-student tutors: EdFlik lists rates from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Those figures are real and they buy real help with homework and content gaps. What they do not usually buy is someone who has marked a Higher Level paper against the criteria.

The next band up is a qualified subject tutor working online, broadly AED 150 to 300 an hour. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200, which is the clearest single data point in this market because almost nobody else publishes a number at all. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this search cluster quote no price whatsoever, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in.

Above that sit IB and IGCSE specialists at roughly AED 200 to 450 and beyond. TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts specialists at AED 200 to 450 and upwards. The premium tier runs from AED 500, with BartyED at AED 650. In-home visiting rates are a separate band because they include travel: Bestimate puts in-home at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors are quoted between AED 200 and 500 an hour.

None of these are IB Gram's prices and this page does not publish a price list. What a Dubai family should take from the table is the shape of the market: the gap between a content-help rate and a specialist rate is roughly threefold, and the gap between an online specialist and an in-home specialist is mostly travel. Set your budget against the band you actually need, then take a free trial lesson before paying for anything.

06

Online or a tutor in the car: what the travel premium actually buys

Set the two options side by side honestly, because an in-home tutor is a genuinely good product for some families and pretending otherwise is not useful. A tutor in the room can see a child's exercise book without being shown it, can read body language that a video call compresses, and removes any question of a student quietly doing something else. For a younger child or a student who needs physical presence to stay on task, that is worth paying for.

The cost is twofold and both parts are hidden. The first is money: the in-home band starts at AED 180 and the online specialist band starts at AED 150, and the difference is travel time the tutor cannot sell to anyone else. The second is supply. A tutor who must physically reach Umm Suqeim 3 by half past five can serve perhaps three or four students a day. That constraint means the pool of people available to your child is whoever is both qualified and geographically close, which for Higher Level mathematics in Dubai is a short list.

Online delivery inverts that. The question becomes whether the right specialist is free at your preferred hour, not whether they happen to live on this side of Sheikh Zayed Road. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home visiting is an India-only service, and the UAE offer is one-to-one live video. That is a real limitation and it is stated here rather than buried.

The practical answer most families on this page reach is a hybrid of their own making: online one-to-one for the specialist subject where the pool matters, and whatever local arrangement works for general homework supervision. That is a sensible split, and no part of it requires paying a travel premium on the subject where expertise is scarcest.

The Cambridge and Pearson calendar, counted backwards from the paper

Almost no competing page in this search names an examination series at all, which is strange, because the calendar is the thing that determines when tutoring is useful. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so a UAE candidate sits June, with November as the resit route. Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable runs to 19 November 2026. For a sense of how long results take, the June 2026 Pearson results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, while the November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are published, checkable dates, which is why they appear here with their years attached.

One Cambridge administrative detail is worth more to a Dubai parent than any revision tip. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and the board states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination because the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask the school's examinations officer which zone the centre sits in and work from that timetable, not from a generic one found online.

Counting backwards is the useful exercise. Final entries close months before the papers. Internal deadlines for Diploma coursework sit earlier still, because the school needs time to mark and moderate. A family that starts tutoring when the examination timetable is published has missed the window where the internal assessment components, which are a fifth of each Diploma grade, could still be improved.

What a tutor may and may not do with an exploration or Extended Essay

This is the section where the search results in front of you divide into two groups, and it is worth being direct about why. At least one site ranking for queries like this one sells completed internal assessments. That is not tutoring. Submitting work a student did not produce is academic misconduct under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the student, who can lose the diploma rather than the subject. No page should be vague about this, so this one is not.

The legitimate boundary is well defined and genuinely useful. A tutor may teach the subject content the student needs, explain what each named criterion rewards, read a draft the student wrote and mark it against the descriptors, ask questions that expose a weak argument, and teach the referencing convention. A tutor may not supply sentences, rewrite paragraphs into the final version, choose the research question outright or handle the data analysis on the student's behalf.

In practice the most valuable hour is the earliest one, before writing starts. A mathematics exploration built on a question that cannot generate enough mathematics will score poorly regardless of how well it is written, and an Extended Essay on a question with no accessible sources will stall at the research stage. Half an hour spent stress-testing the question saves weeks. That conversation is entirely legitimate because the student leaves it having made the decision themselves.

Expect your tutor to keep a record of what they did. Sessions on this page are documented with a note of what was taught and what the student changed afterwards, in the student's own words. If a school ever asks what support a student received, that record is the answer, and a family that can produce it is in a far stronger position than one that cannot.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Raffles World Academy draws from the villa and tower communities along the western spine of Dubai. Where a family lives changes the realistic start time of a weekday session more than anything else, which is the whole argument for an online slot.

Umm Suqeim 3

The school's own neighbourhood. A pick-up here still means a twenty-minute crawl back onto Al Wasl Road at half past two, so the usable weekday window starts at four rather than three.

Al Sufouh

Immediately west, and the densest school cluster on this side of the city. Families here often run two different school calendars at once, which makes a fixed weekly online slot easier to protect than a travelling tutor.

Al Barsha South

A short hop inland but on the wrong side of Sheikh Zayed Road for the afternoon peak. Parents in this community routinely report that a 4pm in-home booking becomes a 4:25pm start.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Apartment-heavy and popular with families on single-school fees. Online sessions remove the travel surcharge that an in-home tutor adds for a journey out to the Circle and back in rush hour.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence

Tower living with lift queues and visitor parking that a travelling tutor prices into the hourly rate. A live-video slot at seven in the evening costs the same as one at four.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills

Villa communities that feed several schools on this side of the city. Journey times from here to Umm Suqeim 3 make an in-home weekday session for a Higher Level specialist unusually expensive to arrange.

Al Quoz and Al Safa

Central and well connected, which keeps in-home rates nearer the bottom of the market band. The constraint is less travel than timetable collision with after-school activities and Arabic support.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh and Al Safa

The cluster immediately around the school, mixing selective British schools with IB continuum schools. Students we support in this area are frequently sitting IGCSE and Diploma components in the same academic year, which is why a single tutor across both levels is the usual request.

Al Barsha South and Al Khail

The inland cluster, reachable from Umm Suqeim 3 but not on a school run. Diploma Programme demand here concentrates on Higher Level sciences and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, the two subjects where local specialist supply is thinnest.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the year group, the board and the two subjects that hurt

The useful detail is specific: Year 11 Cambridge 0620 Extended with moles unresolved, or Year 12 Analysis and Approaches Higher Level with Paper 3 unsat. A subject name alone produces a general tutor. A named paper and a named topic produces the right one.

  2. 02

We match one tutor and hold a trial lesson

The trial is a real teaching hour on real work, not a consultation. The student decides afterwards whether the pairing works, because the student is the one who has to turn up every week. If it does not work, we match again rather than asking you to persist.

  3. 03

Agree the weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time

Most Umm Suqeim families land between half past five and eight on a weekday. We fix the hour and hold it for the term, so it survives the activities timetable. The slot moves for mock weeks and travel if you tell us in advance.

  4. 04

Work from the school's own sequence

The tutor teaches what the class is covering, not a parallel syllabus, and asks for the unit plan or the current topic each half term. That keeps the session useful on Monday rather than in April, and it means the student is never carrying two different versions of a topic.

  5. 05

Read the weekly note and watch the error log

Every session ends with a written note: what was taught, what the student got wrong and what to practise. Over a term, the repeated errors in that log are the real diagnosis, and they are usually narrower and more fixable than the original worry was.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One tutor who knows both mark schemes

A Raffles World Academy student may be criterion-marked and examiner-marked in the same year. Tutors matched from this page teach both, so advice about reflection and advice about command terms come from the same person rather than contradicting each other.

Both IGCSE boards, by syllabus code

Cambridge 0580, 0625, 0620, 0610 and 0478 alongside Pearson 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1. The paper structures differ, the tiering differs and the practical assessment differs, so the tutor is matched to the code the school actually enters.

The travel premium removed, not the teaching

Live video means the specialist does not have to be driveable from Umm Suqeim 3 at half past five. Market in-home rates start at AED 180 an hour partly because of that drive. Removing it widens the pool and takes the travel cost out of the hour.

Internally assessed work handled properly

Coaching and criterion-level feedback on the student's own draft, documented session by session. No text is supplied and no draft is written. If a school asks what support was given, there is a record that answers the question honestly.

Numbers with their sources attached

Every AED band on this page names the provider who published it, and every regulator fact names the document. Where a date could not be verified from the board itself, this page says so rather than publishing it. That is checkable, which is the point.

A trial lesson before any money moves

The first hour is a free trial with the matched tutor, on the student's own work. There is no obligation afterwards and no package to commit to up front. The decision sits with the family after seeing the teaching, not before.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Which exam board does Raffles World Academy use for IGCSE, Cambridge or Pearson?+

Ask the school directly, because schools in Dubai run different boards in different subjects and revise their entries. Some enter Cambridge for sciences and Pearson for mathematics; others use one board throughout. The difference matters: Cambridge Mathematics 0580 tiers into Core and Extended with Papers 2 and 4 at Extended, while Pearson Mathematics A 4MA1 tiers into Foundation and Higher over two two-hour papers. The examinations officer or the head of secondary will confirm the code per subject. Once you have the codes, matching a tutor becomes straightforward, because the paper structure and the practical assessment follow from the code.

My child is in Year 11 at Raffles World Academy and wants Higher Level maths. Is that realistic?+

It depends almost entirely on tier and on algebraic fluency rather than on current grade. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level assumes the Extended-tier algebra and functions content as a starting point. A student sitting Extended with secure function notation and confident symbolic manipulation is in a good position. A student on Core, or one who works numerically rather than symbolically, has roughly a term of algebra to acquire. That is bridgeable, and the cheapest time to bridge it is the spring of Year 11 and the following summer, not the first term of Year 12.

Do you send a tutor to our villa in Umm Suqeim?+

No. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition to UAE families over live video, and in-home visiting is a service we offer only in India. That is a real limitation and it is better stated than discovered later. What you gain is the thing the travel premium was paying for: the tutor does not have to be within driving distance of Umm Suqeim 3 at half past five, so the pool of available specialists is set by who is free at your hour rather than by who lives nearby. For Higher Level sciences in Dubai that difference is substantial.

What does a specialist IGCSE or IB tutor cost per hour in Dubai?+

The market splits into bands. Budget online platforms publish from AED 33 to 65, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit around AED 150 to 300, and Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home visiting is AED 180 to 500 because travel is inside the rate. Those are the market's own published figures, not IB Gram's price list; ask for a trial lesson before committing to anything.

Can a tutor help with the mathematics exploration without crossing an academic-honesty line?+

Yes, and the boundary is clear enough to describe in a sentence. A tutor may teach the mathematics, explain what each criterion rewards, read a draft the student wrote and mark it against the descriptors, and question a weak argument. A tutor may not supply sentences, rewrite a draft into its final form, or choose the research question outright. The most valuable session is the earliest one, stress-testing the student's own question before writing starts, because an exploration built on a thin question scores poorly however well it is written.

Which months do UAE IGCSE candidates actually sit their papers?+

Cambridge International runs a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two. The February and March series exists but Cambridge offers it to India only, so it should never appear in a UAE revision plan. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November; the November 2026 final timetable runs to 19 November 2026. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used, so ask the school's examinations officer which zone your centre sits in.

How many IGCSE subjects does a Raffles World Academy student need for Ministry of Education equivalency?+

The British track requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus either one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five. One competing site publishes a six-subject figure, which does not match the published rule. Verify the current requirement on the Ministry's own channel before acting, and note that IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees any part of the equivalency process.

Is there any point starting tuition six weeks before the June papers?+

Yes, but the work changes shape. Six weeks is too short to acquire missing content across a whole syllabus and long enough to fix paper technique, which is often where the marks are. An intensive block sits a timed paper cold, marks it during the session, and drills the two or three repeating error types that surface. In Cambridge sciences the practical paper is usually the fastest twenty per cent to improve, because scales, precision and conclusion wording are technique rather than knowledge. What six weeks cannot do is change an internally assessed component that is already submitted.

What does the Knowledge and Human Development Authority inspection rating of a school actually tell me?+

Dubai private schools are inspected on a six-band scale running from Outstanding through Very Good, Good and Acceptable to Weak and Very Weak. The band is a judgement about the school as a whole across teaching, outcomes, leadership and provision, not a prediction about one subject or one child. Read the published report rather than the headline band, because the subject-level commentary inside it is far more useful for planning tuition. The reports sit on the authority's own website, which is where you should read them rather than relying on a summary elsewhere.

Does my non-Arab child still have to take Arabic in a Dubai IB school?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in every Dubai private school regardless of the licensed international curriculum. Arabic is streamed by first-language and additional-language status, and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority requires that classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies are organised separately, with combined classes prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit and the authority advises that no mandatory lesson runs shorter than 25 minutes.

Does a tutor working with Raffles World Academy students need a UAE permit?+

Individuals giving private lessons in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, applications are made through the ministry's smart app and e-services, and the published completion time is two working days. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

Can the same tutor cover both my children if one is in Year 10 and one in Year 12?+

Often yes within a subject family, and it is usually a good idea. A chemistry specialist who teaches Cambridge 0620 Extended and Diploma chemistry sees the same quantitative thread running through both, and can tell the younger child exactly which skill the older one wishes they had secured earlier. Separate one-to-one sessions are still held, because the two students are being graded against different schemes and a shared hour serves neither well. Scheduling them back to back on the same evening is the arrangement most families settle on.

What if no specialist is free for a niche Higher Level subject at Raffles World Academy?+

We say so rather than matching a generalist to it. Some Diploma combinations are genuinely thin on specialist supply, and Higher Level sciences and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Paper 3 level are the usual pressure points in this market. If nobody suitable is free at your preferred hour, the options are a different hour, a short wait for a slot to open, or a tutor based outside the UAE teaching on Gulf Standard Time. All three are disclosed up front, with the rate, before anything is booked.

How do sessions work during Ramadan and the Dubai school holidays?+

School days shorten during Ramadan and family routines move later, so most students shift their weekly slot to after Iftar for the month. Because delivery is over live video there is no travel to reschedule around, which makes that shift easy to arrange. Across the long summer break, families either pause entirely or use a short block aimed at one named gap ahead of the new year, which is the pattern we see most from Year 11 students heading into the Diploma. Tell us which you want a fortnight ahead and the slot is held or released accordingly.

Start with one honest hour on the work your child actually has in front of them

The useful first step is not a brochure call. Send the year group, the board and syllabus code, and the two topics or papers that are costing marks, and we will match a tutor who teaches that code and that level. The first session is a free trial on the student's own work, over live video, at a Gulf Standard Time hour that suits a Dubai school day. Afterwards the student says whether the pairing works. If it does, we hold the slot for the term. If it does not, we match again. Nothing on this page is a price list, and no figure here is published without naming where it came from.
