IB IGCSE Tutor for Gems Wellington International School Students in Dubai

Families comparing an IB IGCSE tutor for Gems Wellington International School students in Dubai are often really comparing two post-16 pathways with two different price tags. Six subjects plus a core, or three taken deeper. This page works out what each costs over two years in dirhams and in household hours, with every figure sourced. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, not at your address.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Start at the cheap end and work upwards

Most pricing conversations in this market begin at the premium end, which flatters the seller and tells a parent nothing. So begin at the other end. Published market rates read in October 2026 put budget online platforms and university-student tutors between roughly AED 45 and 150 an hour, with some platform entry rates quoted from AED 33. That is a real option for a student who needs company and accountability rather than specification depth, and for a Year 9 student working on arithmetic fluency it is often sufficient.

Above that sits a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with one agency publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Then a named IB, IGCSE or A Level specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 or more, one agency publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one visits including travel run roughly AED 180 to 500. At the top a single provider publishes AED 650 an hour. Each of those figures belongs to the provider that published it, and quoting one is neither an endorsement nor a judgement.

The reason to lay the ladder out in that order is that families habitually buy one rung above what the problem requires. A student whose marked script shows command-term misreading and unwritten method does not need a premium specialist; those are behaviours and a competent subject tutor fixes them. A student attempting Higher Level mathematics Paper 3 does need somebody who has taught the course. Matching the rung to the diagnosis is the single largest saving available, and it requires a marked script rather than a conversation.

The bigger money question at this school is structural rather than hourly. GEMS Wellington International School runs the British curriculum through IGCSE and offers a sixth form where families choose a post-16 route; confirm the current provision with the school, since offers change. Six Diploma subjects plus an Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS is a different tutoring budget from three or four A Levels, and nobody models that difference before the decision. This page does, in dirhams and in household hours.

IB Gram supports Wellington families with one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time. It does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service that exists only in India. Two things are deliberately absent from this page: any statement about the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and there is none here, and any fine amount for unpermitted tutoring, because the ministry published no schedule and the circulating figure could not be verified. Both gaps are deliberate, and they are the kind of gap worth looking for on any page that quotes money at you, because a provider willing to publish one figure it cannot source will publish others.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three stages and one decision. The decision at sixteen has a price attached that families rarely calculate before taking it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

International GCSE, Years 10 and 11

Eight or nine subjects assessed almost entirely by terminal written paper, with tiering into Core and Extended on Cambridge or Foundation and Higher on Pearson Edexcel, and a board-dependent practical arrangement in the sciences.

The budget question here is how many subjects to support, and the answer is usually one. Two subjects at two sessions a week is four sessions plus four sets of homework on top of nine certificates, which typically produces two half-improvements at double the monthly cost of one completed one.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three Higher and three Standard, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, scored out of 45 with 24 as the diploma minimum and up to three bonus points from the core matrix. Internal assessment carries weight in every subject.

Six subjects means six places a problem can appear, and the core adds deadlines that need process coaching rather than subject teaching. A household budgeting for this pathway should expect a wider spread of small needs rather than one concentrated one, which changes how the money is best deployed.

A LEVELAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level

Three or four subjects taken deeper, with no compulsory core and limited coursework. Entry is gated on IGCSE grades in the same subject, usually at a B or better, which is why Year 10 tier decisions reach forward two years.

Three subjects concentrates both the risk and the tutoring. A weak A Level cannot be carried the way a weak sixth Diploma subject can, so the budget tends to be smaller in total and more likely to be spent intensively on one subject. Confirm the school's current sixth-form provision before planning around either route.

YR 7-9Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

The years before the options form

The cheapest tutoring available in the whole school career, and the stage most households skip. Nothing is being repaired against a deadline and the specialist requirement is lower, which means the budget rung can be lower too.

The Year 9 options form fixes the subject list and usually the tier. A Cambridge Core entry caps the grade at C and closes post-16 routes needing a B. Producing the evidence that reopens it — Extended-only content taught, then a timed Extended paper — costs a handful of sessions in Year 9 and a term in Year 11.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below, the subjects this catchment asks about most, each with the note that determines where it sits on the price ladder rather than only what it assesses.

IGCSE Mathematics (0580; Edexcel 4MA1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

The deepest supply of any subject in Dubai, so the most competitive pricing on the ladder. Most of what a script loses is written method on the final parts of structured questions, which is a behaviour a competent subject tutor fixes without a specialist premium.

IGCSE Sciences (0625, 0620, 0610; Edexcel 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Confirm the syllabus code first: Cambridge carries a practical component worth twenty per cent, sat as a practical test or an alternative paper, while Pearson Edexcel has no separate practical exam. The wrong preparation is invisible until results.

IGCSE English as a First Language (0500; Edexcel 4EA1)

Core and Extended

Reading and writing rather than literature. Directed writing is assessed on register and audience, and the summary question penalises lifted phrasing. Both are teachable without a specialist rate, provided the sessions include a full writing stretch.

A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics

AS and A2

Concentrated risk: with three subjects, a weak one cannot be carried. That argues for engaging earlier rather than for paying more per hour, and for buying a diagnostic before any block of sessions is committed to.

A Level sciences

AS and A2

Practical endorsement arrangements vary by board, so establish what the school entered. Tutoring here is almost entirely paper-based, which makes it the simplest of the pathways to measure and the easiest to leave unmeasured.

IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested Higher Level subject in the Gulf, so autumn booking is materially easier than spring booking. Paper 3 at Higher Level is worth twenty per cent and is the least practised component in the Diploma, which is where a specialist rate earns itself.

IB sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology

HL and SL

Paper 1 at thirty-six per cent, Paper 2 at forty-four, investigation at twenty with a 3,000-word cap. The investigation planning session is the cheapest high-value purchase available, because research design cannot be repaired after data collection.

IB English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral is worth thirty per cent at Standard Level and is rehearsable, which makes it the best value per hour in the subject. Higher Level adds the HL Essay at twenty per cent, which is untimed and criteria-marked.

IB Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Economics portfolios are three commentaries of no more than 800 words each; Business Management has a pre-released case at Higher Level that can be worked months ahead. Both reward short efficient blocks rather than open-ended weekly support.

Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay support

Diploma core

Process coaching rather than subject teaching, and therefore a different match and often a lower rung on the ladder. The caps are 1,600 words for the Theory of Knowledge essay, 950 for the exhibition commentary and 4,000 for the Extended Essay.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements at three price points, all delivered online and one-to-one. The right rung on the ladder depends on the diagnosis rather than on ambition.

A pathway comparison block before the decision

Two or three sessions before the sixth-form choice is made, spent working out which route suits the student and what each would cost the household over two years. The cheapest useful purchase available at sixteen, because it operates on a decision rather than on a topic.

  • Built from marked Year 11 scripts, not from predicted grades
  • Models both the dirham cost and the household hours
  • Finishes before the sixth-form form is returned

One weekly session in one subject

The ordinary arrangement. Market monthly estimates for a mid-range qualified tutor at one weekly hour sit around AED 600 to 1,200, with budget options from roughly AED 240 to 600. Booked in the autumn rather than the spring, which avoids the scarcity premium entirely.

  • A fixed weekday and hour on Gulf Standard Time
  • Work set between sessions and marked before the next one
  • A written risk list reviewed monthly with the scripts attached

A defined block on one component

Four to six sessions aimed at a named component with a published weighting: the investigation plan, the Individual Oral, the pre-released business case, Paper 3 at Higher Level mathematics, or one A Level module. Priced as a block with a visible finish rather than rolling on.

  • A named target with a percentage attached
  • Scoped and priced as a block, not open-ended
  • Ends when the component is covered rather than at a term boundary

01

What each post-16 pathway costs a household over two years

Nobody models this before the decision, and it is modellable. The Diploma is six subjects plus an Extended Essay of up to 4,000 words, a Theory of Knowledge course examined through an essay of up to 1,600 words and an exhibition commentary of up to 950, and CAS, which carries no points but blocks the diploma if incomplete. A Levels are three or four subjects taken deeper, with no core. Those structures produce different tutoring demand patterns, not simply different amounts.

On the Diploma the demand is wide and shallow. Six subjects means six places a problem can emerge, each carrying an internal assessment worth twenty to thirty per cent, plus the core with its own deadlines that need process coaching rather than subject teaching. A household on this pathway typically finds itself buying several short blocks across two years — an investigation planning session here, an oral rehearsal there, a Theory of Knowledge essay structure conversation — rather than one long engagement.

On A Levels the demand is narrow and deep. Three subjects means a weak one cannot be carried, because there is no sixth subject to absorb it, so when tutoring becomes necessary it tends to be sustained weekly support in one subject rather than a scatter of blocks. Totals vary enormously by household, but the pattern holds: the Diploma spreads spending across more items and the A Level route concentrates it in fewer.

The table below models both using the published market monthly bands rather than invented figures: roughly AED 240 to 600 for budget support at one weekly hour, AED 600 to 1,200 for a mid-range qualified tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. It is a shape for planning, not a quote, and the point of it is that a household can see the pattern before choosing rather than discovering it in the second year.

The hours, which are as finite as the money

Dirhams are the visible budget and hours are the one that actually binds. A Dubai school week is longer than its international equivalent, because Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies run alongside the licensed curriculum in every private school in the emirate, and the afternoon commute in this catchment takes what it takes. Against that sits homework in six subjects or three, internal assessment work arriving in bursts, CAS in the evenings, and whatever a tutoring arrangement adds.

The arithmetic is worth doing once. A single weekly tutoring session is not one hour of household time. It is the session, plus the work set between sessions, plus the rescheduling when something collides, plus the parent's attention in reading whatever comes back. Two subjects at two sessions a week is not four hours; it is closer to eight or nine once the work between sessions is counted, and it sits on top of a week that was already full.

That is the real reason two subjects at once usually produces two half-improvements. The money is affordable and the hours are not, and the hours give way first — the work between sessions stops being done, the sessions become revision of unattempted homework, and the arrangement quietly becomes two expensive conversations a week. Sequencing avoids it: the subject with the shortest diagnostic list first, banked, then the hours move.

On the Diploma specifically, the hours constraint is tightest in the autumn of the final year, when internal assessment finals, the Extended Essay submission and mock examinations collide. A household that has agreed in advance what sessions will contain during that cluster — process coaching on the piece that is due, rather than subject teaching that competes with it — keeps the arrangement. One that has not usually cancels and never restarts.

03

Matching the rung to the diagnosis

  • Four of the six causes of a lost mark are behaviours, not knowledge gaps
  • Behaviours are fixed as well at the middle of the band as at the top
  • The specialist rung is justified by a small teaching pool, not by polish
  • Get the script, count the causes, then choose the rung

The largest single saving available in this market is not negotiating a rate. It is buying the right rung on the ladder for the problem you actually have, and that requires a marked script. A lost mark has six possible causes: content not known, content known but not recalled under pressure, question misread, command term misread, method correct but not written out, and time ran out. Four of those six are behaviours or techniques rather than knowledge gaps.

Behaviours and techniques do not require a premium specialist. Command-term misreading is fixed by the command-term list and an hour sorting past questions by it. Unwritten method is fixed by enforcement on every piece of marked work. Misread questions are fixed by slower reading, practised. Pacing is fixed by section timing targets and full papers to time. A competent subject tutor at the middle of the published band does all four as well as anybody charging double.

What does justify the specialist rung is genuine content depth in a course with a small teaching pool: Higher Level mathematics Paper 3, Higher Level chemistry mechanisms, a minority Diploma subject, or an A Level module where the board's approach differs from the textbook's. There the person's experience of the specific course is the product, and the rate reflects scarcity rather than polish.

So the sequence that saves money is: get the marked script, count the causes, then choose the rung. Families who choose the rung first and the diagnosis afterwards routinely pay specialist rates to fix a notation habit, which works and costs twice what it needed to. Nobody in this market will point that out, because the incentive runs the other way.

04

Market bands, read in October 2026

For completeness and in ascending order, because that is the order a family should read them in. Budget online platforms and university-student tutors between roughly AED 45 and 150 an hour, with some entry rates quoted from AED 33. A qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300, with one agency publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. A named IB, IGCSE or A Level specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 or more, one agency publishing AED 270. In-home one-to-one visits including travel at roughly AED 180 to 500. One provider publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

Monthly packages advertised in this market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and roughly AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Convert both to a cost per contact hour before comparing them with anything, because the second buys eight hours of contact and the first buys eight sessions of unstated length. That single conversion resolves most of the confusion in this market and takes thirty seconds.

Why publish any of this: three of the six pages competing for searches like this one publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which no Dubai household budgets in. One agency's own frequently asked questions poses the cost question and declines to answer it. A parent with no reference range cannot compare anything, which is the function of the silence rather than an accident of it.

For context on the household's larger lines, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai also had 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen curricula in 2024-25, with seven new schools adding 16,846 places for the 2026-27 intake. Depth of supply is why Dubai rates sit below those in thin-market emirates.

Siblings and the five-year view

Households in this catchment frequently have two or three children in school at once, which turns tutoring from a purchase into a recurring line. Looked at over five years rather than one term, two conclusions follow that are invisible from inside a single decision.

The first is that early support is cheaper than late support for every child, every time. The Year 9 options form fixes the subject list and usually the tier, and a Cambridge Core entry caps the grade at C, closing post-16 routes that need a B. Producing the evidence that reopens that — Extended-only content taught, then a timed Extended paper marked against the official scheme — costs a handful of sessions in Year 9 and a whole term in Year 11. A household with three children will face that decision three times, and getting it right the first time changes the five-year total more than any rate negotiation.

The second is that the exam-year surge compounds. Published monthly estimates for specialist exam-year support run from roughly AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more, the highest band in the country, and a significant share of it is spring scarcity rather than teaching quality. A household that habitually engages in February rather than the previous autumn pays that premium once per child per examination year, which over three children and two examination stages each is six instances of an avoidable cost.

Set against those, the saving from using a cheaper tutor is small. The rate difference between the middle and the top of the band is real but bounded; the difference between early and late engagement, and between a tier decision taken well and badly, is not. A household budgeting over five years should spend its planning effort on timing and on the Year 9 form, and relatively little on comparing hourly rates.

06

The questions that settle a price, and what free should mean

  • Does the figure include VAT, in writing
  • Per hour or per session, and the session length
  • What happens if we stop after one month
  • Who marks work between sessions, and is that time included
  • Any rating or statistic: ask for the sample size, the date and the method

Five questions, answered in writing, settle almost any price conversation. Does the figure include VAT. Is the rate per hour or per session, and how long is a session. What happens if we stop after one month. Who marks work between sessions, against what, and is that time inside the rate. And what happens if the matched tutor becomes unavailable, including whether the written risk list hands over.

The marking question is the one that separates arrangements which generate evidence from those that generate a pleasant relationship. A piece of work annotated away from the student against the official mark scheme is a document that can be compared with next month's. The same correction made verbally in the room leaves nothing behind, and a household then has no way of knowing whether the hours worked until results arrive.

On anything described as free, the condition belongs on the same screen as the word. A trial lesson should be free without a commitment, a card requirement or a minimum booking appearing later. Ours is one lesson with the matched tutor before anything is paid, with the parent able to listen in, and its purpose is to test whether your child can follow this person's explanation rather than to conduct a sales conversation.

And if any provider states a rating, a satisfaction percentage or a student count, ask for the sample size, the date and the method. Several pages researched in this market publish figures with none of the three; one shows two different ratings and review counts in the same document, and another pairs a five-star figure from twenty reviews with a claim of 2,500 students taught. A figure without an n and a date is not evidence of anything.

07

What this page does not claim

No statement about the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees, because making one responsibly requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and there is none here. No fine amount for unpermitted tutoring, because the ministry published no schedule and the figure circulating online could not be verified against any official source. No IB points threshold for Ministry of Education equivalency, because none could be read on an official source; the British-track figures are published and appear elsewhere on this site, and the IB figure does not. No IB examination or results date, because the organisation's own site could not be checked. No star rating, satisfaction percentage or student count.

On permits, the cost is zero. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's own service with a stated two working days to complete. Eligible applicants include school-registered teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

On assessed work, the cheapest-looking purchase in this market is the most expensive item on any menu. A page in this search result sells completed internal assessment work at a fixed price. Submitting work that is not the candidate's own is malpractice under the board's rules and the consequence lands on the student's qualification. A tutor may teach, explain criteria in the board's wording, read a draft the student has written and name which criterion it misses. A tutor may not write the internal assessment or draft the Extended Essay.

And position. IB Gram is not approved, accredited, licensed or partnered by the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International, Pearson, the Ministry of Education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Sharjah Private Education Authority or the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It holds no such relationship, claims none, operates no premises in the UAE, and has no arrangement with any school named on this page. Every rate quoted belongs to the provider that published it.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Communities in this catchment, noted for the variable that actually changes a quote: how much travel an in-home tutor would be pricing in, and whether a weekday full-length session is realistic.

Al Sufouh

Immediately around the school, with the shortest journey in the catchment. An in-home premium buys the least travel here, which makes it the fairest place to compare the formats on merit rather than on logistics.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

A short run on the Sheikh Zayed and Umm Suqeim approaches. Weekday teaching sessions from 17:00 are workable, and full-length practice is still better placed on a weekend morning.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Close in distance and slow at peak, which is the combination that most inflates an in-home quote relative to the journey on a map. A fixed online slot removes the variable entirely.

The Greens and The Views

Apartment communities with a short but congested run. The constraint is usually a quiet study space rather than travel, which argues for a slot before the household's busiest hour.

Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah

Coastal communities with a moderate peak-sensitive journey. Households here commonly run one weekday teaching session plus a protected weekend morning for drafting and timed work.

Palm Jumeirah

A single access route that concentrates congestion at predictable times. In-home quotes carry real travel time, and the practical argument for a reliable online slot is stronger than the hourly comparison suggests.

Media City and Internet City

Mixed residential and commercial with short distances and heavy local traffic. Reliability rather than speed is the issue, which suits a protected weekly slot.

Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Hills

Outer-ring villa communities with journeys that vary widely day to day. These are the addresses where an in-home premium is mostly a car, and where the saving from online delivery is largest.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the marked script before choosing a rung

Count the causes of lost marks: content, recall, misread question, misread command term, unwritten method, time. Four of the six are behaviours, and behaviours are fixed as well at the middle of the published band as at the top. Choosing the rung first and diagnosing afterwards is how households pay specialist rates for a notation habit.

  2. 02

Model the pathway before the sixth-form choice

Six Diploma subjects plus a core produces wide shallow demand across two years; three A Levels produces narrow deep demand. Two or three sessions comparing the routes on the student's Year 11 evidence costs less than a month of weekly support and acts on a two-year decision.

  3. 03

Count the hours, not just the dirhams

A weekly session is the hour plus one to two hours of work between sessions plus rescheduling plus a parent's reading time. Two subjects is closer to eight or nine household hours a week, which is why the work between sessions is the first thing dropped and the gain goes with it.

  4. 04

Engage in the autumn, not the spring

Exam-year specialist support is the highest published band in the country and much of the spring premium is scarcity rather than quality. Over three children and two examination stages each, habitually engaging late is six instances of an avoidable cost.

  5. 05

Ask the five price questions in writing

VAT inclusion, per hour or per session and the length, cancellation after a month, who marks work between sessions and whether that time is inside the rate, and what happens if the tutor becomes unavailable. The marking answer is the one that determines whether evidence exists.

  6. 06

Protect the Year 9 options form

It fixes the subject list and usually the tier, and a Core entry caps the grade at C and closes post-16 routes that need a B. A handful of sessions in Year 9 producing a timed Extended paper is the cheapest intervention in the entire school career.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The pathway decision costed, not just discussed

Six Diploma subjects plus a core generates wide shallow tutoring demand; three A Levels generates narrow deep demand. Nobody models that before the sixth-form choice, and it is modellable from the published market monthly bands rather than from invented figures.

The ladder presented cheapest first

Budget, qualified, specialist, in-home, premium. Reading it in ascending order makes it obvious that most problems sit on the second rung, and that four of the six causes of a lost mark are behaviours a competent subject tutor fixes as well as anybody.

Household hours counted alongside money

A weekly session costs the hour plus the work between sessions plus rescheduling plus a parent's reading time. Two subjects is eight or nine hours on a week that was already full, which is the real reason two subjects at once underperforms.

The five-year view for households with siblings

Early engagement and a well-handled Year 9 options form change a five-year total far more than any rate negotiation. The exam-year surge compounds across children and stages, and it is the one avoidable cost that recurs.

Dubai context rather than generic context

227 private schools, 387,441 students, seventeen curricula, no fee increase for 2026-27 confirmed in May 2026, and seven new schools adding 16,846 places. Depth of supply is why Dubai rates sit below thin-market emirates, and that is a planning fact.

Nothing asserted that cannot be sourced

No VAT treatment, no fine amount, no IB equivalency threshold, no IB examination date, no star rating, no satisfaction percentage. On a page about money the absences are the most informative part, and they are listed rather than hidden.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Does the IB Diploma cost more in tutoring than A Levels?+

It usually generates a wider pattern of demand rather than simply a larger bill. Six subjects means six places a problem can emerge, each with an internal assessment worth twenty to thirty per cent, plus a core with deadlines needing process coaching. Three A Levels concentrates the risk, because a weak subject cannot be carried, so support tends to be sustained weekly work in one subject. Totals vary by household, but the Diploma spreads spending and the A Level route concentrates it.

Which rung of the market should I actually be buying?+

Whichever the marked script indicates. Four of the six causes of a lost mark — misread question, misread command term, unwritten method, and running out of time — are behaviours or techniques rather than knowledge gaps, and a qualified subject tutor at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour fixes those as well as anybody charging double. The specialist rung at roughly AED 200 to 450 or more is justified by a small teaching pool and genuine content depth.

Does a tutor come to homes in Al Sufouh or the Marina?+

Not through IB Gram. Lessons are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home visits are not offered anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Dubai's in-home market publishes roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour. In this catchment the Marina and Palm Jumeirah are close in distance and slow at peak, which is the combination that most inflates an in-home quote relative to the journey shown on a map.

What does a weekly tutoring session really cost a Dubai household in time?+

More than the hour. The session, plus one to two hours of work set between sessions, plus fifteen to thirty minutes of rescheduling when something collides, plus ten to twenty minutes a month of a parent reading what comes back. Two subjects at two sessions a week is closer to eight or nine household hours, on a school week already lengthened by Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies running alongside the licensed curriculum.

Why do two subjects at once usually disappoint?+

Because the money is affordable and the hours are not, and the hours give way first. The work set between sessions stops being done, sessions become revision of unattempted homework, and the arrangement quietly becomes two expensive conversations a week. Sequencing avoids it: start with the subject whose diagnostic shows the shortest, most specific list of causes, bank the improvement, then move the hours to the second subject.

How much should I budget monthly for one subject in Dubai?+

Published monthly estimates for a single weekly one-hour session put budget support at roughly AED 240 to 600, a mid-range qualified tutor at roughly AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist exam-year support at roughly AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Those are market figures read in October 2026 from published sources rather than IB Gram prices. The mid-range band taken across a full year, started early, is the lowest cost per grade gained.

Is a monthly package cheaper than hourly tutoring?+

Only once converted to a cost per contact hour, which takes thirty seconds and resolves most of the confusion in this market. Advertised packages include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and roughly AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. The second buys eight hours of contact; the first buys eight sessions of unstated length. Ask how long a session runs before comparing either against an hourly figure.

How does the exam-year premium compound across siblings?+

Published monthly estimates for specialist exam-year support are the highest band in the country, and much of the spring premium is scarcity rather than teaching quality. A household that habitually engages in February rather than the previous autumn pays that premium once per child per examination year. Across three children with two examination stages each, that is six instances of a cost that a single planning decision removes.

What is the cheapest intervention in a child's whole school career?+

Work in Year 9 that influences the options form. The form fixes the subject list and usually the tier, and a Cambridge Core entry is capped at grade C, which closes post-16 routes requiring a B before teaching begins. Producing the evidence that reopens it — Extended-only content taught, then a timed Extended paper marked against the official scheme — costs a handful of sessions in Year 9 and a whole term in Year 11.

Should marking between sessions be included in the rate?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing, because it determines whether the arrangement produces evidence. A piece of work annotated away from the student against the official mark scheme is a document that can be compared with next month's. The same correction made verbally in the room leaves nothing behind, and a household then has no way of knowing whether the hours worked until results arrive. It is the most consequential of the five price questions.

What should a free trial lesson include?+

One lesson with the matched tutor before anything is paid, with the parent able to listen in, and no condition that appears later. If any condition attaches to the word free — a card requirement, a minimum booking, a commitment — it belongs on the same screen as the word. Its purpose is to establish whether your child can follow this person's explanation, which is the signal that predicts whether the arrangement lasts a term.

How should I treat a tutoring site's published rating?+

Ask for the sample size, the date and the method before treating it as evidence. Several pages researched in this market publish figures with none of the three: one shows two different ratings and review counts in the same document, and another pairs a five-star figure drawn from twenty reviews with a claim of 2,500 students taught. Review markup not backed by real, dated, attributable reviews is a structured-data violation and a consumer-protection exposure.

Does the Dubai fee freeze change what I should spend on tutoring?+

Indirectly, by making the year plannable. The Knowledge and Human Development Authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in the emirate would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. A flat fee line makes the discretionary lines easier to budget deliberately, which is the argument for setting an annual tutoring figure rather than accumulating one by month.

Why does this page not publish IB Gram's own hourly rate?+

Because a single number would mislead. What we charge depends on the subject, the level, the frequency and whether the engagement is a defined block or an open weekly commitment, and those produce genuinely different figures. Publishing one rate would either overstate a simple arrangement or understate a complex one. The published market bands here give a reference range, the trial lesson is free, and the quote follows it rather than preceding it.

Diagnose first, then choose the rung

For a Wellington household the order saves more than any negotiation. Get the marked script and count the causes of lost marks, because four of the six are behaviours a mid-band subject tutor fixes as well as anybody. Model the post-16 pathway before the form, since six subjects plus a core and three A Levels generate different demand patterns. Count the household hours alongside the dirhams. Engage in the autumn rather than the spring. Then ask the five price questions in writing. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; nobody is sent to a Dubai address.
