IB IGCSE Tutor for Collegiate American School Students in Dubai

An IB IGCSE tutor for Collegiate American School students in Dubai should hand you evidence, not reassurance. Every session here opens on a marked script and closes with the next piece of work named, so a parent in Al Barsha South can read what moved and what did not. Lessons are one-to-one, live online, in Gulf Standard Time, and the marked scripts come to you.

  • Every session opens on the previous week's marked question
  • Written diagnosis names components and topics, never a predicted grade
  • Criterion-letter feedback on drafts the student wrote themselves
  • Lessons delivered live online; no tutor attends a UAE address

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Ask for the script, not the update

Most tutoring in Dubai is sold on reassurance. A parent is told the sessions are going well, the student seems more confident, and the grade should come up. Three months later the grade has not come up, and nobody can say what changed because nothing was ever measured. The alternative is not complicated: a marked script every week, a written diagnosis at the start, and a fresh paper at the end to test whether the diagnosis was right. If a provider cannot produce those three things, there is no evidence that anything happened.

This matters in a specific way for Collegiate American School families. The American curriculum reports through a grade point average built from continuous assessment: quizzes, projects, participation, unit tests, often across a semester. That is a reasonable system and it produces a readable transcript, but it smooths over exactly the information a tutor needs. A grade point average of 3.1 in Chemistry does not tell you whether the student cannot balance redox equations or simply missed two quizzes during a family trip. The number is an average of averages.

IB and IGCSE assessment works the other way round. An IGCSE grade comes almost entirely from terminal papers marked against a published scheme with marks allocated question by question. An IB Internal Assessment is marked against lettered criteria with explicit descriptors. Both produce something a parent can actually inspect: a script with marks lost at identifiable points, or a draft with a criterion score and a descriptor explaining it. That is evidence, and it is the reason this page is organised around documents rather than promises.

So the first thing a family here gets is not a lesson. It is a timed past paper, sat under exam conditions, marked against the published mark scheme, and a written diagnosis naming which of four things has gone wrong: content, method, timing or command-word reading. Those four look identical on any report card, including a transcript, and they need four different remedies. Guessing between them is how a term disappears.

A word on delivery, stated once. Tutoring for families in Dubai is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For an evidence-led plan this turns out to help rather than hinder, because scripts, annotated drafts and marked papers accumulate in one shared place instead of in a folder somebody left at school.

What follows is the paperwork. How to read a marked script. What grade movement is realistic over six, twelve and twenty-four weeks. What criterion feedback on an Internal Assessment draft actually says. Where an American-curriculum transcript and an IGCSE grade do and do not line up. And what the Ministry of Education requires from an American-track leaver, which is the one place where the two systems meet formally.

At a glance

  • A marked script every week, returned to the parent, not summarised
  • A written diagnosis naming components before any teaching plan is written
  • A fresh unseen paper at the end of a block to test the diagnosis
  • Internal Assessment feedback given criterion by criterion against published descriptors
  • No predicted grades, no guaranteed outcomes, from any tutor at any price
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Collegiate American School families approach IB and IGCSE work from three directions: a transfer into an international curriculum, private candidacy alongside the American programme, or Advanced Placement work that overlaps heavily with Diploma Higher Level content.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11 or Grades 9-10

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two years ending in terminal written papers graded 9-1 or A*-G. Because the grade comes from papers rather than continuous assessment, the evidence trail is unusually clean: every mark lost is attached to a question, and a marked script shows exactly where. That makes IGCSE the easiest qualification in which to prove whether tutoring worked.

A Dubai student moving from an American grade structure into Year 10 IGCSE usually finds the content familiar and the assessment alien. Nothing in a semester of unit tests teaches a student to write method out so that method marks are collectable. That single habit is normally the first six sessions of work, and it shows up on a marked paper immediately.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 or Grades 11-12

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Internal Assessments are marked against lettered criteria with published descriptors, which means feedback can be specific in a way that general essay advice never is: a criterion score with the descriptor that justifies it.

UAE schools sit the May session. No IB session or results date appears on this page because ibo.org blocks automated verification and an unverified date is a liability on a page a parent acts on. Work instead from the school's own internal deadlines, which sit ahead of the IB's and are the dates that actually govern a student's term.

APAges 16-18 · Grades 11-12

Advanced Placement alongside the American programme

Single-subject college-level courses assessed by an external examination with a 1 to 5 score. Content overlap with IB Higher Level is substantial in the sciences and mathematics, so a student taking both routes can often be supported by the same subject specialist, provided the tutor teaches the assessment style of each rather than assuming they are interchangeable.

For a Dubai family comparing routes, the practical difference is the evidence. An Advanced Placement score is a single external number; an IB Diploma produces subject grades plus core points plus marked Internal Assessments. Neither is better, but the Diploma gives a parent more to inspect mid-course, which matters if you are paying for support.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What a marked script typically shows in each subject, and therefore what a session works on. These are the subjects families in the Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills corridor most often bring.

Chemistry

HL, SL and IGCSE

Scripts show marks lost on units, significant figures and incomplete mechanism arrows far more often than on concepts. At Higher Level the energetics and organic sections reward a written reasoning chain; a correct final answer with no visible chain collects a fraction of the available marks.

Physics

HL, SL and IGCSE

The diagnostic pattern is that recall questions score well and graph-based or extended-response questions do not. Deriving a relationship from plotted data is a separate skill from knowing the relationship, and it shows up as a cluster of lost marks in the same part of every paper.

Biology

HL, SL and IGCSE

Scripts expose command-word failure clearly: a student asked to explain who has described, or asked to evaluate who has listed. The biology is usually right. The answer shape is wrong, which is a four-session fix and one of the most visible before-and-after changes available.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Marked scripts almost always point to algebraic manipulation inside otherwise understood topics rather than to the topics themselves. Paper 3 at Higher Level is an extended investigation marked on reasoning, so the evidence of progress there is the quality of written justification, not the final answer.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core and Extended

Core entry caps the grade at 5 and Extended reaches 9, so the first piece of evidence a family needs is which tier the student can collect marks at. Two timed papers, one at each tier, answers a question that otherwise gets decided by assumption.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Progress here is read from annotated drafts rather than scripts. The measurable change is usually in the analytical paragraph: whether a quotation is being analysed or merely quoted. Individual Oral preparation is marked on sustained analysis of a global issue, which is coachable and checkable.

English Language

IGCSE First Language

The summary task is marked on selection, so a student who writes fluently and selects poorly plateaus around a grade 6 and stays there regardless of effort. Directed writing is marked on register, audience and form before content. Both are visible on a marked paper in minutes.

Economics

HL, SL and IGCSE

Diagram accuracy is the countable thing. An unlabelled axis or a shift drawn the wrong way loses the mark whatever the prose says, and a marked script shows this as a repeated identical error. Higher Level evaluation is a separate taught skill with its own mark allocation.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study papers reward application to the stimulus material. A script where every paragraph is textbook theory with no reference to the company is a specific and fixable failure, not a knowledge gap. Quantitative tools at Higher Level are marked on method shown.

Arabic as an Additional Language

KHDA mandatory stream

Required in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, so the stream must be confirmed before any plan is written or the material will be wrong.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes, all built to leave a paper trail. Each is one-to-one live video with a named tutor who marks the work personally; none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Diagnostic block with a written report

Four to six sessions that begin and end with a timed paper. The point is the document at the start and the document at the end, so a family can see whether the identified component actually moved rather than inferring it from the student's mood.

  • Opens with a timed paper marked against the published scheme
  • Written diagnosis naming components, topics and command words
  • Closes on a fresh unseen paper under the same conditions
  • The report belongs to the family and can be shown to the school

Weekly one-to-one with returned scripts

One subject, one hour, same slot. Each session opens on the previous week's marked question and the marked script is returned to the parent. Progress is therefore readable at any point without asking anyone how things are going.

  • Same tutor every week, marking the work personally
  • Marked scripts returned rather than described
  • Sessions pause during the school's own mock weeks
  • A short written note each month naming what changed

Internal Assessment draft review, criterion by criterion

For Diploma students, feedback on a draft the student wrote: a score against each lettered criterion, the descriptor that justifies it, and the questions an examiner would ask. No text is supplied and nothing is rewritten.

  • Each criterion addressed separately against the published descriptor
  • Research question narrowed until answerable in the word limit
  • Questions asked about the student's claims, never answers inserted
  • Timed to the school's internal deadlines, which precede the IB's

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

How to read a marked script, and the four things it can tell you

A marked paper is the most underused document in Dubai tutoring. Parents are shown grades constantly and scripts almost never, which is unfortunate, because the script contains the diagnosis and the grade contains nothing. Reading one takes about twenty minutes and does not require subject knowledge. You are looking for patterns in where the marks were lost, not for whether the answers were right.

There are four patterns and they are mutually distinguishable. A content failure looks like whole questions attempted badly or not at all in one topic area, with the rest of the paper sound. A method failure looks like correct final answers with few marks, because the working was not written out and the method marks could not be awarded. A timing failure looks like a strong first half and blank or rushed final questions, which is a fixed loss of marks on every single paper the student sits. A command-word failure looks like good, accurate subject content that answers a different question from the one printed: a description where an explanation was asked for, a list where an evaluation was required.

Each has a different remedy and a different timescale. Content takes the longest and is the only one that genuinely requires re-teaching. Method is usually four to six sessions of enforced habit change. Timing is three or four sessions with a stopwatch and a deliberate question order. Command words are the fastest fix of all and the most frequently misdiagnosed, because a student who writes accurate biology and scores four out of ten is assumed to need more biology.

This is why the first paid hour here is a marked paper rather than a lesson. The diagnosis determines everything after it, and the four remedies are not interchangeable. A parent who has read the script can also challenge a plan that does not match it, which is a useful position to be in.

02

What a transcript tells you and what an IGCSE script tells you

A Collegiate American School family holds a transcript, which is a reliable record of sustained performance across a semester and a genuinely useful thing for a university admissions office. It is also, for diagnostic purposes, nearly opaque. A grade point average is an average of quizzes, projects, participation and tests, weighted by a school policy, and a dip in it can be produced by a missed assessment, a weak project, or a real conceptual gap. From the outside these are indistinguishable.

An IGCSE or Diploma script is the opposite. It is a single performance under fixed conditions, marked against a published scheme question by question, which makes it a poor record of a year's work and an excellent diagnostic instrument. You can see which topic failed, whether method was written, how far the student got before time ran out, and whether the command words were read. The two documents answer different questions and a family holding only the first is missing the second.

This has a practical consequence for any student moving between the systems, which happens often in this part of Dubai. A student with a strong transcript can arrive in Year 10 IGCSE and score poorly on the first mock, not because the content is harder but because nothing in a semester of unit tests requires you to write method out so that method marks are collectable, or to distinguish between describe and explain under time pressure. That is an assessment-literacy gap, it is highly fixable, and it is routinely misread as a drop in ability.

The reverse is also worth knowing. A student with an average transcript can score well on a terminal paper if the content is secure, because continuous assessment punishes a bad fortnight in a way a single examination does not. Neither system is fairer. They measure different things, and a family moving between them should expect the number to move.

Grade movement: what can realistically change in six, twelve and twenty-four weeks

Nobody can promise a grade, and anyone who does is telling you to look elsewhere. What can be described honestly is what kind of change is available over what period, because the four failure patterns move at very different speeds and the timescale is the thing families most often get wrong. A parent starting six weeks before a paper is buying something different from a parent starting two years out, even if the subject and the tutor are identical.

In six weeks, technique moves and content does not. A student can learn to write method out, to allocate time across a paper, and to read command words properly. Those are real, countable marks and they are often the difference between adjacent grades. What cannot happen in six weeks is the secure learning of a topic that was never understood, and a plan claiming otherwise is going to spend the time on a thin pass over too much material.

In twelve weeks, one or two substantial content areas can be rebuilt alongside technique, provided the diagnosis identified them precisely. This is the most productive block length for most students and the one where returned marked work shows the clearest before-and-after. In twenty-four weeks, a genuine subject-wide rebuild is possible, including the algebraic fluency that underpins mathematics and physics and takes months rather than weeks to become automatic.

The honest sixth row of the table below matters as much as the first five. Sometimes a block ends and the component has not moved. That means the diagnosis was wrong, and the correct response is to change the plan rather than to extend it. Families who have been shown marked work throughout can see this coming; families who have been given verbal updates find out at results.

04

What criterion feedback on an Internal Assessment draft actually looks like

  • Indicative score per criterion, with the published descriptor quoted
  • Questions asked about the student's own claims, never answers supplied
  • Research question narrowed early, before data collection, not after
  • Deadlines taken from the school's internal calendar, which precedes the IB's

IB Internal Assessments are marked against lettered criteria, each with a published descriptor and a fixed mark allocation. This is unlike anything in an American grading structure and it is the single most useful thing a Diploma family can learn to read, because it converts vague essay advice into a specific instruction. A student told their Internal Assessment needs more analysis has been given nothing. A student told that criterion C scores at the lower band because the data is presented but its uncertainty is never discussed has been given a task.

Legitimate draft feedback therefore has a fixed shape. The tutor reads the draft the student wrote, assigns an honest indicative score against each criterion, quotes the descriptor that justifies it, and asks the questions an examiner would ask: does this graph show what the sentence claims, is this limitation weighed or merely listed, is the research question answerable within the word limit. The student then does the writing. Nothing is inserted, nothing is rewritten, and no sentence in the submitted work belongs to anyone but the student.

The word limit is itself a criterion issue rather than an administrative one, because an over-long piece usually indicates a question too broad to answer rather than a trimming problem. Narrowing a research question early is the highest-value intervention available in the whole Internal Assessment process and costs an hour. Doing it late means discarding collected data, which is why the research question conversation belongs weeks before the drafting one.

Timing follows the school rather than the board. Collegiate American School and every Diploma school in Dubai set internal deadlines ahead of the IB's, and those are the real dates. This page publishes no IB submission or results date, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unverified deadline on a page a parent plans around is worse than silence. Confirm each one with the school's Diploma coordinator.

05

The exam calendar, counted backwards from the evidence you need

An evidence-led plan needs fixed points to measure against, and the examination calendar supplies them. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only, so a Dubai candidate sits June or November, and a page telling a UAE parent otherwise is handing them a date they cannot use.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are past dates and are cited precisely because a parent can verify them. For a future series, read the live official timetable on the board's own site rather than any restated date, since provisional timetables are revised.

There is one administrative trap worth knowing. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. A parent who downloads a timetable from a search result rather than from the school's exams officer has a real chance of reading someone else's dates.

Counted backwards, the evidence schedule writes itself. A baseline timed paper two terms out. A marked mock, properly diagnosed rather than merely graded, one term out. A re-test six weeks out to confirm the technique work landed. Entry and tier decisions sit months before the papers, so the evidence that informs them has to be generated earlier still.

06

MoE equivalency: the one place the two systems meet formally

A student leaving an American-curriculum school in Dubai for a UAE university needs their certificate equivalated by the Ministry of Education, and the requirements differ by track. For the American track, English proficiency is met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test, to be held before applying. Those are published figures and they are the thresholds a Collegiate American School family should plan against.

For the British track, the published requirement is passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five. That five-subject figure is worth stating plainly, because a page currently ranking in this market says six, and a family acting on the wrong number may add a subject and lose the hours it consumes.

No IB points threshold is published in the source behind these figures, so none appears on this page. A Diploma family needing that number should read it on moe.gov.ae or confirm it with the emirate's attestation authority directly rather than accepting a figure from any tutoring site, including this one. The absence is deliberate.

Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs. IB Gram does not perform it, does not guarantee it and cannot accelerate it, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. What tutoring can do is help a student reach a threshold that is published, which for an American-track student usually means SAT Math and English preparation with a measurable baseline and a measurable re-test, which is exactly the shape of the rest of this page.

KHDA, inspection evidence, and what it does and does not tell a parent

  • KHDA inspects annually on six bands; read the subject commentary, not the headline
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit covers training institutes with premises; IB Gram has none
  • Dubai had 387,441 private school students across 227 schools in 2024-25, with US curriculum at 14 per cent

Dubai private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described by the UAE government as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education.

For a parent reading inspection evidence, the headline band is the least useful part of the report. A school rated Very Good still has a bottom set, and a school rated Acceptable still produces strong individual results. The valuable part is the subject-level and phase-level commentary, which usually names attainment and progress by subject. If the report says attainment in secondary mathematics is below expectations, that is direct evidence about where support is likely to be needed, written by inspectors rather than by a tutoring company.

Two regulatory points sit alongside. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed international curriculum, with separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, and combined classes strictly prohibited. And a tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit, issued to training institutes. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE centre, and no tutor here is described as KHDA-approved.

Dubai's market context is worth one line, because it explains the pressure families feel. The emirate had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen curricula, with UK provision at 37 per cent of students, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7. A fourteen per cent share means American-curriculum families are a substantial minority rather than the default, which is part of why cross-system advice is so thin on the ground.

08

The line between feedback and malpractice

  • Criterion scores, descriptors and examiner-style questions: legitimate feedback
  • Supplied text, chosen research questions or provided data: malpractice exposure
  • Official board material is linked at source, never redistributed as downloads
  • If the feedback could be shown to the school coordinator, it is on the right side

An evidence-led page has to be explicit about this, because the evidence in question is a student's own work and at least one provider competing for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments outright. The transaction looks like a shortcut and functions as a risk transfer: the fee is paid once and the academic-honesty finding, if it comes, attaches to the student's record rather than to the seller's.

The legitimate boundary is specific enough to hold any tutor to it. A tutor may teach the content an assessment rests on, explain what each published criterion rewards, assign an indicative criterion score to a draft, quote the descriptor behind it, help narrow a research question until it fits the word limit, confirm a data collection plan is viable, ask the questions an examiner would ask, and teach referencing conventions properly. All of that is teaching and all of it leaves the student as the author.

A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure or supply any text for submission, choose the research question, provide data the student did not collect, or edit a draft until the sentences are no longer recognisably the student's. A tutor should also not supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; those are linked and cited at source, both because reproducing them is a copyright matter and because unreleased material is a malpractice exposure.

A reasonable test for a parent: if the feedback could be shown to the school's Diploma coordinator without anybody being uncomfortable, it is on the right side of the line. Annotated criterion feedback passes that test easily. A returned draft with new paragraphs in it does not. Ask prospective tutors where their line sits before the first session, and treat a vague answer as the answer.

09

Availability, and the evidence you should get before paying

  • Ask who teaches each session by name, and who marks the work
  • Ask what the first paid hour produces: a lesson or a readable diagnosis
  • Ask what happens if the block ends and the component has not moved
  • The free trial is one session, no card required, with the actual specialist

No provider in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is worth noticing. Specialist supply is finite, and the combinations most often needed urgently are the scarcest: Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level Paper 3, Chemistry Higher Level mechanisms, a less commonly taught Diploma language, IGCSE Computer Science pseudocode to the specification style. A platform that answers every request with an immediate yes is either guessing or sending a generalist.

The position here is that a family is told the realistic timescale and the alternatives instead. Where a UAE-based specialist is not available, the tutor may be based elsewhere and working to Gulf Standard Time, and that is disclosed rather than hidden behind a contact number. It makes no practical difference to an online lesson, but a parent is entitled to know before booking.

Before any money changes hands, there are three documents worth asking any provider for. First, who specifically will teach each session, by name, and whether that person marks the work. Second, what the first session produces: a lesson, or a diagnosis you can read. Third, what happens if the block ends and nothing moved. A provider with good answers to those will have them ready; a provider without them will offer reassurance instead, which is the thing this page started by distrusting.

The free trial lesson exists so that a mismatch costs one hour rather than a term. It is free with no card required and the condition is simply that it is a single session, with the specialist who would actually teach the subject. If the fit is wrong, say so and a different specialist is proposed. If nobody suitable exists for the component, that is said plainly.

Where we tutor

Where the evidence has to travel: Al Barsha South and around

Collegiate American School sits in the Al Barsha South belt, with families drawn from the newer communities along Al Khail Road and the Dubai Hills corridor. The practical reason online delivery suits an evidence-led plan here is that nothing has to be carried anywhere.

Al Barsha South

The school's own catchment, mostly apartments and compact villas. Short school runs mean a 4.30pm session is realistic, and a student can bring that day's returned class test to the lesson while it is still relevant.

Dubai Hills Estate

Large villa plots with a high concentration of Diploma-age students. Families here most often ask for Internal Assessment draft feedback, which is the component where written criterion evidence matters most.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Dense apartment communities with a young demographic and several curricula within one tower. Cross-board comparison questions, especially transcript against IGCSE grade, arrive from here more than anywhere.

Arjan and Dubailand

Newer towers with long drives to most established schools. A long bus journey means homework starts late, so evening sessions after 6.30pm are the norm rather than the exception.

Motor City and Sports City

Settled communities with their own school stock, where families often hold a British-route child and an American-route child simultaneously and need the two reporting systems translated.

Al Quoz

A mixed residential and industrial strip with almost no local tuition supply, which makes the online pool not a preference but the only route to a Higher Level specialist.

Barsha Heights and Tecom

High-density towers close to Sheikh Zayed Road. Afternoon congestion here makes any fixed in-home arrival time unreliable, and a late tutor loses the first part of a session that was meant to review marked work.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills

A cluster where American, British and IB continuum provision sit within a few kilometres of each other. Families move between them more than in most parts of Dubai, which means transcript-to-IGCSE translation is a routine conversation rather than an unusual one.

  • Collegiate American School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS International School Al Khail
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Jumeirah Village and Motor City

Newer residential communities with their own schools and a broad curriculum mix. Students arriving into an international curriculum from an American grade structure usually need the assessment style taught before any content, and that is the same work whichever school they join.

  • GEMS Metropole School
  • Arcadia School
  • Victory Heights Primary School

  • JSS International School

Schools are named as context for the Dubai education market; IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from or partnership with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the most recent marked work

Not the report card and not the grade point average. The actual script, test or returned assignment with the marks on it. If the school has not returned one, ask for it; most will. Twenty minutes with a real script tells a tutor more than an hour of conversation about how the student feels about the subject.

  2. 02

Sit a timed paper under exam conditions

A past paper from the correct board and syllabus code, timed properly, marked against the published scheme. This is the baseline against which every later claim of progress is measured. Without it, a block of tutoring ends with nothing to compare, and the only available evidence is whether everyone felt it went well.

  3. 03

Read the written diagnosis before agreeing a plan

The diagnosis names which of the four failure patterns is present, which topics are affected and which command words are being misread. It does not contain a predicted grade. If the proposed plan does not visibly follow from the diagnosis, ask why before the sessions start rather than after six of them.

  4. 04

Take the free trial with the specialist who will mark the work

One session, free, no card required, with the person who would actually teach and mark. A trial with a different tutor from the one assigned tells you nothing useful. Ask during the trial how the student's last script was read, and listen for specifics rather than encouragement.

  5. 05

Collect the weekly scripts and re-test at the end

Marked work comes back each week and accumulates. At the end of the block the student sits a fresh unseen paper under the same conditions as the baseline. Either the component moved or it did not, and both answers are useful. If it did not, the plan changes rather than extends.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Marked scripts, returned

The work is marked by the tutor who taught the session and the script comes back to the family rather than being summarised in a message. A parent can read where the marks went without knowing the subject, because mark schemes allocate marks to identifiable points and a script shows which ones were missed.

A diagnosis you can argue with

The written diagnosis names components, topics and command words, which means it can be checked against the script and challenged if it does not fit. A plan nobody can argue with is a plan nobody can verify, and that is the normal state of tutoring in this market.

No predicted grades

Nobody here will tell you what grade your child will get, because nobody knows and the claim would be worth nothing. What is offered instead is a statement of what kind of change is available over what period, which is checkable at the end of the block against a fresh paper.

Criterion feedback for Diploma work

Internal Assessment and Extended Essay feedback is given criterion by criterion with the published descriptor quoted, which converts general essay advice into a specific task. The student writes every word; the feedback is a set of questions and an honest indicative score.

Cross-system translation

For families holding an American transcript and facing IGCSE or Diploma assessment, the gap is usually assessment literacy rather than ability. Naming that distinction early prevents a predictable first-mock shock from being read as a drop in capability, which is a common and expensive misreading in this part of Dubai.

Delivery and coverage stated plainly

Lessons are one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. Where a UAE-based specialist is unavailable, the tutor's location is disclosed rather than concealed, and there is no UAE office or centre.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Can a tutor work from my child's Collegiate American School report, or do you need something else?+

A report is useful for trend and almost useless for diagnosis. A grade point average is a weighted average of quizzes, projects, participation and tests, so a dip can be produced by a missed assessment, a weak project or a genuine conceptual gap, and from outside those look identical. What is needed is a piece of marked work with the marks visible: a returned test, an annotated essay or a script. Twenty minutes with that document identifies whether the problem is content, method, timing or command-word reading, which is the information a plan has to be built on.

How will I know whether the tutoring is actually working?+

By comparing two timed papers sat under the same conditions, one at the start of the block and one at the end, and by reading the marked scripts that come back each week in between. That is the whole mechanism. If a provider cannot produce a baseline document and a closing document, there is nothing to compare and the only available evidence is whether everybody felt positive about it. Ask at sign-up what the first paid hour produces and what the last one produces. Those two answers tell you whether you are buying a measurable service or a reassuring one.

My child's grades dropped after moving from the American programme into IGCSE. Is that an ability problem?+

Usually not. It is most often an assessment-literacy gap, and it is predictable enough to plan for. Nothing in a semester of unit tests and projects requires a student to write method out so that method marks can be awarded, to allocate time across a long terminal paper, or to distinguish between describe, explain and evaluate under pressure. All three are needed from the first IGCSE mock. The content is usually fine. The fix is four to six sessions of enforced habit change plus timed practice, and it shows up clearly on a marked paper, which is why the baseline paper matters so much here.

What does criterion feedback on an IB Internal Assessment look like in practice?+

An indicative score against each lettered criterion, the published descriptor that justifies that score, and the questions an examiner would ask about the student's own claims. For example: criterion C sits in the lower band because the data is presented but its uncertainty is never discussed, so what is the uncertainty in that measurement and how does it affect the conclusion. The student then writes the answer. Nothing is inserted into the draft, nothing is rewritten, and no sentence in the submitted work belongs to anyone but the student. A reasonable test is whether the feedback could be shown to the school's coordinator comfortably.

How much can realistically change in six weeks before an exam?+

Technique, not content. In six weeks a student can learn to write working out so method marks are collectable, to allocate time so the last questions are not blank, and to read command words so accurate subject knowledge answers the question printed. Those are countable marks and frequently the gap between adjacent grades. What cannot happen in six weeks is the secure learning of a topic never properly understood. A plan promising a full content rebuild in that window will spread itself thinly across too much material and move nothing. Evidence to ask for is two timed papers, first and last, same conditions.

What if the block ends and nothing has moved?+

Then the diagnosis was wrong, and the right response is to change the plan rather than extend it. This happens, and a family that has been reading marked scripts throughout can usually see it coming by week four rather than discovering it at results. The common causes are a misread failure pattern, a content gap larger than the block length allowed for, or an underlying reading or processing issue that needs the school rather than a subject tutor. Extending an unchanged plan because the sessions feel productive is the single most expensive mistake available in this market.

Does my child need IGCSE at all if they are on the American track in Dubai?+

Not for Ministry of Education equivalency on the American track, which is met through SAT and English-proficiency thresholds rather than IGCSE subject counts. The published American-track requirements are at least 450 in SAT Math, and for English either 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section. Some families still take individual IGCSEs privately to strengthen an application to a UK or international university, which is a strategic choice rather than a requirement. Confirm current requirements with the Ministry before planning around either route.

Which SAT thresholds does the UAE Ministry of Education publish for equivalency?+

For the American track, mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test, and that must be held before applying. English proficiency can be met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT. The published source for these figures does not mention EmSAT and states no IB points threshold, which is why no IB figure appears on this page. Equivalency is a Ministry process; no tutoring provider performs it, guarantees it or speeds it up, and tutoring is not a requirement for it.

Can the same tutor support Advanced Placement and IB Higher Level in the same subject?+

Often yes in the sciences and mathematics, where content overlap is substantial, but only if the tutor teaches the two assessment styles as distinct. An Advanced Placement examination and an IB Higher Level paper reward different things: the Diploma paper expects a written reasoning chain and penalises an unjustified answer heavily, and Internal Assessment work has no Advanced Placement equivalent at all. A tutor who treats them as interchangeable will prepare a student well for one and adequately for neither. Ask directly which of the two they have taught to final assessment, and how recently.

Why do you refuse to give a predicted grade?+

Because it would be a guess dressed as information, and because the prediction tends to replace the measurement. Once a family has been told to expect a 6, every later conversation is about whether the 6 is on track rather than about which component is leaking marks. What can be stated honestly is what sort of change is available over a given period, and what the evidence at the end of the block will be. If a provider leads with a grade promise, or promises a specific improvement in writing, that is a commercial claim rather than a professional judgement, and no tutor can honour it.

How do I read my child's KHDA inspection report usefully?+

Skip the headline band and read the subject and phase commentary. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak, but a band describes a school, not a child, and a strong school still has a weak set in some subject. The useful lines are the ones naming attainment and progress by subject and phase, because those are inspectors' judgements about where students in that school are strong and where they are not. If the report says secondary mathematics attainment is below expectations, that is independent evidence about where support may be needed.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education required at an American-curriculum school in Dubai?+

Yes. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education must hold appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects. For tutoring, a parent needs to confirm which stream the child sits in first, because the content and expectations are not interchangeable.

Who will actually teach and mark each session?+

One named specialist, who teaches the subject at that level, marks the work personally and returns the script. This is worth confirming in writing with any provider, because a named match at sign-up that quietly becomes a rota is the most common version of this problem in the Dubai market, and it destroys the evidence trail: a different marker each week means the marking is not comparable. Where a UAE-based specialist is unavailable for a component, the tutor may be based elsewhere and working to Gulf Standard Time, and that is disclosed before booking rather than left to be inferred.

Do you deliver sessions at our home in Al Barsha South?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Lessons for Dubai families are delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. For an evidence-led plan this is a practical advantage rather than a compromise, because marked scripts, annotated drafts and timed papers accumulate in one shared place instead of in a folder at home or at school. It also means the tutor is selected for subject and level rather than for willingness to drive through Al Barsha at 4pm, which matters most for the scarcest components.

Start with one marked paper

If a grade at Collegiate American School is not where you expected, the fastest useful step costs one hour: a timed past paper from the correct board and syllabus code, marked against the published scheme, and a written diagnosis naming which of the four failure patterns is present. That document tells you whether you are looking at six sessions of technique work or two terms of content rebuilding, and it gives you something to measure the end of the block against. Book the free trial with the specialist who would teach and mark the work, read the diagnosis, and decide from evidence rather than impression.
