IB IGCSE Tutor for Greenfield International School Students in Dubai

Before choosing an IB IGCSE tutor for Greenfield International School students in Dubai, it helps to know what each provider model charges and what it leaves out. This page sets the Dubai Investments Park options side by side in AED with their published sources, then names the extras families rarely budget for. Lessons here are one-to-one and online, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Provider models compared on published rates, not on claims
  • Extras named up front: entry fees, resources, resit windows
  • One-to-one live online delivery; no visits to UAE addresses
  • Free trial lesson, single session, no card required

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Six ways to buy the same hour, at six different prices

A Dubai family looking for tuition is not choosing between tutors so much as between business models, and the models price very differently for reasons that have little to do with teaching. A specialist agency, an international marketplace, an independent freelance tutor, a tuition centre running small groups, a school's own after-hours support and an online platform are six distinct propositions. Comparing their hourly rates without comparing what sits inside the hour is how families end up surprised.

The published numbers give a reasonable map. Unitors lists IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table places IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, and budget online provision lower again, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the examiner-led end. Monthly, the market shows AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

What those numbers do not show is the replacement policy when a tutor leaves mid-term, whether the person named at sign-up teaches every session, whether marking is included or extra, and whether a missed session is credited or billed. Those terms vary more between models than the headline rates do, and across a Diploma they can matter more. A family paying AED 200 an hour with free reschedules may spend less across a year than one paying AED 150 with sessions lost to traffic and illness.

Greenfield International School families sit in a part of Dubai where this matters more than average. Dubai Investments Park and the southern communities around it are a long way from the city's tuition supply, which is concentrated in Jumeirah, Al Barsha and the Marina corridor. An in-home tutor willing to drive to Dubai Investments Park on a weekday evening is either charging for the journey or is the only person who offered, and neither is a strong negotiating position for a parent.

One rule applies throughout and does not change anywhere on this page. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. That removes the journey from the cost and from the shortlist, which in this part of the city is the larger of the two effects.

The sections below compare the models on published terms, set out the extras that sit outside the hourly rate, and show where spending early is cheaper than spending late. The figures are the market's, attributed and dated. None of them is an IB Gram price list; for that, the free trial lesson and the consultation are the right conversation.

At a glance

  • Published Dubai rates span roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour across models
  • Monthly packages seen: AED 799 for eight online sessions; AED 1,599 to 1,799 in-home
  • Replacement policy, marking and reschedule terms vary more than headline rates
  • Southern Dubai has thin local supply, which raises in-home rates and narrows choice
  • No figure here is an IB Gram price; ask about the free trial instead
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Greenfield International School runs the IB continuum, so the shape of a family's spend is set by the stage. The Primary Years Programme costs little to support, the Middle Years Programme is where early money is best spent, and the Diploma is where most of it is actually spent.

PYPAges 3-11 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-based learning with no external examination, so there is no mark scheme for a tutor to work against. Support at this stage is skill-specific: reading fluency, number facts, sentence construction, English as an additional language. Short blocks of eight to twelve sessions in the lower market bands are the appropriate purchase, and a standing weekly slot usually is not.

Dubai families commonly start paying for tuition earlier than the need justifies, which inflates lifetime spend without changing outcomes. For a Dubai Investments Park family the useful first step is asking the class teacher whether the gap is developmental timing or a genuine skill shortfall, and buying a short diagnostic block rather than committing to a term.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment with scores out of eight against lettered criteria. There is no terminal examination, so costs stay moderate, but this is where cheap and unfocused help wastes most money. A tutor who cannot say what criterion D rewards will teach content the student already holds and the report will not move.

This is where a Greenfield International School family can spend least and gain most. Securing algebraic fluency in Year 9 removes the expensive Diploma rescue work that otherwise arrives in Year 12. Market rates for a tutor who knows the criteria sit around the AED 150 to 250 band, which is a fraction of exam-year specialist pricing.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Spending concentrates here because several Internal Assessments, an Extended Essay and three Higher Level courses arrive in overlapping windows, and families buy help for more than one at a time rather than sequencing them.

Bestimate's specialist exam-year band of AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above per month assumes a single subject at one session a week. Two Higher Levels plus Internal Assessment coaching is a multiple of that figure. UAE schools sit the May session; no IB date appears on this page because ibo.org blocks automated verification, so confirm each deadline with the school's coordinator.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Which subjects absorb the budget, and why. Request volume from IB continuum schools across southern Dubai follows a consistent pattern, and so does the reason families buy help in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The highest-volume request at Diploma and the most expensive to leave late, because Higher Level builds vertically on algebra. Paper 3 is an extended investigation marked on reasoning and the pool of tutors who have taught it to final assessment is small, which is reflected in rates at the upper end of the specialist band.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Often chosen as the lighter option and then found heavy in statistics and modelling, with technology use assumed throughout. Typically needs fewer hours than Analysis and Approaches, so the total spend is lower even at the same hourly rate, provided the calculator technique is taught as an assessed skill.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and organic mechanisms fail when bonding was never secure, which makes late help costly because the repair runs backwards through the course. Marks also go to units and significant figures as routinely as to chemistry, and that part is cheap to fix if diagnosed.

Physics

HL and SL

Recall is usually sound and the losses cluster in graph-based and extended-response questions, where a relationship has to be derived from plotted data. That is a contained skill of four or five sessions rather than a term, so the efficient purchase here is small and specific.

Biology

HL and SL

The content volume makes families buy long blocks when the actual loss is command-word discipline. Distinguish, outline and evaluate demand different structures, and correcting that is among the cheapest grade movements available in the Diploma. Re-teaching the whole syllabus is neither cheap nor usually necessary.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The cost driver is draft feedback, which is time-intensive per session rather than per week. Individual Oral preparation, marked on sustained analysis of a global issue, gives more movement per hour than general essay practice and should be bought as a short focused block.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy carries marks prose cannot recover; an unlabelled axis loses the point whatever the argument says. Higher Level evaluation is a separate taught skill with its own allocation, and teaching it is the single cheapest available grade movement in the subject.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study papers reward application to the stimulus, and students who recite theory without touching the company in front of them lose marks consistently. Quantitative tools at Higher Level, including break-even and investment appraisal, are marked on visible method.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core and Extended

For families transferring into a British-route school, tier sets the ceiling: Core caps at grade 5 and Extended reaches 9. The cost of establishing which tier a student can collect marks at is two timed papers, which is trivial against the consequence of guessing.

Arabic as an Additional Language

KHDA mandatory stream

Required in every Dubai private school whatever the licensed curriculum. KHDA mandates separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because expectations and the language of instruction differ, so the stream has to be confirmed before an hour is bought or the material will be wrong.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to book, with three different cost profiles. All are one-to-one live video with a named tutor, in Gulf Standard Time, and none involves travel to a UAE address.

Single-subject block with a defined end

Four to six sessions aimed at one diagnosed component, bought as a block. This is the cheapest way to find out whether tutoring is the right purchase at all, and it sometimes concludes that the student needs a study-habit change rather than a weekly tutor.

  • Starts with a timed paper marked against the published scheme
  • Written diagnosis naming components rather than a predicted grade
  • Ends on a fresh paper, so the spend is measured against evidence
  • No rolling commitment and no notice period to cancel

Sequenced subjects rather than simultaneous

For Diploma families with more than one weak subject, taking them in sequence rather than together halves the monthly cost and usually produces more movement, because a student can absorb one habit change at a time but not three.

  • One subject at a time, in order of how much it is costing
  • The second subject starts when the first component has been re-tested
  • Monthly cost held near one subject's band rather than three
  • Order decided from marked work, not from the subject the student dislikes most

Exam-term intensive, priced accordingly

Two or three sessions a week in the final stretch, aimed at timing and paper technique. The most expensive shape per month and the one most often bought after the point at which content could still have been fixed.

  • Technique, timing and command words, not syllabus coverage
  • Works from the student's own marked scripts each session
  • Ends at the exam window with no rollover
  • Substantially cheaper if the underlying diagnosis was done a year earlier

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The six provider models, compared on what they publish

Every competitor page in this market compares itself against an unnamed set of other platforms, which is not a comparison. A useful one compares models rather than brands and quotes only rates the providers themselves have published, with the month they were read. The six models a Dubai family can actually buy from are a specialist agency, an international marketplace, an independent freelance tutor, a tuition centre running small groups, school-run after-hours support, and an online one-to-one platform.

The differences that matter are mostly contractual rather than pedagogical. Does the person named at sign-up teach every session, or is there a rota? Is marking included in the hour or charged separately? What happens when a tutor leaves mid-term, and who finds the replacement? Is a session missed through illness credited or billed? Across a two-year Diploma those terms can be worth more than fifty dirhams an hour, and they are rarely on the pricing page.

Two further checks are worth making whatever the model. First, ask whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Because it costs nothing, no provider can present licensing as a reason for a higher rate. Second, treat any self-published star rating with scepticism: one provider in this market displays two conflicting review totals on the same page, which tells you what the number is worth.

The table below sets the models side by side on the terms a family can verify. Rates are those the named providers published, read in October 2026, and none of them is an IB Gram price.

The extras that sit outside the hourly rate

Families budget for the hour and are then caught by everything around it. Some of these costs are unavoidable and some are entirely avoidable, but almost none of them appear on a tutoring price page. Naming them in advance is the difference between a plan a family can sustain for two years and one abandoned in the second term because the total was never counted.

The largest avoidable cost is a wasted entry. A subject entered at the wrong tier, or a resit required because an entry decision was made without evidence, costs a full entry fee and a term of preparation. Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, so the decision is taken while a family may not even realise it is being taken. Asking the exams officer in writing which subjects and tiers the child is entered for is free and prevents the most expensive surprise available.

The second is the cost of material. Official syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are published by the boards and should be read at source; a tutor who offers to supply a folder of them is creating a copyright and malpractice exposure rather than saving you money. Textbooks and revision guides are real costs and must match the correct syllabus code, or they teach content that will not be examined.

The third is time rather than money, but it converts. A session lost to traffic with an in-home tutor is usually billed. A standing slot that runs through the school's own mock weeks competes with the thing it is meant to support. A tutor matched to a subject they do not teach weekly spends the first four sessions reading the specification. Each of those is a cost with no corresponding benefit, and each is avoidable by asking one question at sign-up.

What the travel premium buys in Dubai Investments Park

In-home tutoring has genuine merits worth stating before any comparison. A tutor in the room holds a younger or more distractible student's attention with less effort, written working is visible without a document camera, and some families simply prefer a person present. Those are legitimate reasons, and the market prices them at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate's figures, with independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500.

In Dubai Investments Park the premium buys something smaller than it does in Jumeirah, because the journey is longer and the supply is thinner. A tutor driving from Al Barsha to Dubai Investments Park in the afternoon spends most of an hour each way and can teach perhaps two sessions in an evening rather than four. The rate carries that lost capacity, and the family is also choosing from an unusually short list: not the strongest Higher Level Chemistry teacher available, but whoever will make that drive on a Tuesday.

For a mainstream subject at a mainstream level the short list may still contain good people. For Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level Paper 3, or Internal Assessment feedback in a less commonly taught subject, it may contain nobody at all. That is the part of the premium a family cannot buy its way out of, because the constraint is geography rather than price.

IB Gram removes the journey rather than discounting it. Lessons are delivered one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, and nothing on this page suggests otherwise; home visits are an India-only service. The gain in southern Dubai is larger than in the centre, because the local pool is smaller to begin with.

Spending early in the Middle Years Programme versus rescuing late in the Diploma

  • Algebraic fluency fixed in Year 9 costs a fraction of the same fix in Year 12
  • A continuum school produces no external mark until the Diploma, so gaps stay invisible
  • One timed paper a term is a cheap external reference point
  • Habits are cheapest to install when they are not competing with revision

The cheapest intervention in the entire IB continuum is securing algebraic fluency during the Middle Years Programme, and the most expensive is repairing it in the first Diploma term. The two are the same piece of learning. The difference in cost is entirely a function of when it happens, because by Year 12 the repair has to run backwards through material the student is simultaneously being taught.

This is easy to miss at a continuum school, because the Middle Years Programme produces no external mark and so nothing forces the issue. A student can sit comfortably on criterion scores of five and six for three years with an algebraic weakness that never becomes visible, then meet Mathematics Analysis and Approaches and appear to collapse. Nothing collapsed. The gap was always there and the assessment finally asked about it.

The practical remedy costs very little. One timed paper a term, from the board the student will eventually sit, marked honestly against the published scheme, gives a family an external reference point years before the first real examination. If it shows a method or fluency problem, four to six sessions in Year 9 settle it. The same problem addressed in Year 12 is a term of work bought at specialist exam-year rates, which Bestimate places at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above per month.

The same logic applies to command-word discipline and to writing method out so it can be credited. Both are habits, both take weeks rather than months to establish, and both get more expensive to install the closer they are to an examination, because by then they are competing with revision for the same hours.

05

The examination calendar read as a budget document

The session dates are the only fixed points in a tutoring year, which makes the calendar a budgeting tool. Help bought in the final six weeks is the most expensive version of the same purchase, because only timing and technique can still move. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only, so a Dubai candidate sits June or November.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those past dates are cited so they can be checked. For any future series, read the live official timetable on the board's own site, since provisional timetables are revised and a restated date goes stale without anyone touching it.

There is also an administrative cost worth avoiding. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. A missed paper is a resit entry and a lost series, which is the largest single avoidable cost in this whole document.

For the Diploma, UAE schools sit the May session. No IB examination or results date appears here because ibo.org blocks automated verification and an unverified date on a page a family budgets against is worse than none. Work from the school's internal Internal Assessment deadlines, which sit ahead of the IB's and are the dates that actually govern the term.

Who may legally charge a Dubai family for tutoring

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to a parent
  • A KHDA Educational Services Permit covers training institutes with premises; IB Gram holds none
  • A child's own school teacher tutoring them for payment is restricted, not routine

Price is not the only thing to verify. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is open to teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, through its smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Two consequences follow for a budget. Because the permit is free of charge, no tutor can reasonably present licensing as a cost to be passed on. And individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, which means no amount should be quoted to a parent by anybody. A figure circulating in this market could not be verified against an official source and is not repeated here.

Anything with premises is a separate matter. A tutoring operation with staff and a location in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit issued to training institutes, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE office or centre, and does not describe itself or any tutor as KHDA-approved. Any provider using that phrase should be asked for the permit number.

One further point concerns school staff. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify against the current policy, but do not approach a child's own teacher for paid lessons on the assumption it is permitted.

07

What should never be bought at any price

  • Completed coursework for sale is a risk transferred to the student
  • Criterion feedback and examiner-style questions on the student's own draft are legitimate
  • Official board material is linked at source, never redistributed
  • If it could be shown to the school coordinator comfortably, it is on the right side

A page about cost has to name the purchase that should not be made. At least one provider competing for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments. The fee is real and so is the mechanism: it is a risk transfer, because the academic-honesty finding attaches to the student's record while the seller keeps the money. Priced against a withdrawn result and a university offer, it is the most expensive thing in this market.

The legitimate alternative is specific enough to hold a tutor to. A tutor may teach the content an assessment rests on, explain what each published criterion rewards, assign an honest indicative score to a draft, help narrow a research question until it is answerable within the word limit, confirm a data collection plan is viable, read the student's own draft and ask the questions an examiner would ask, and teach referencing conventions properly.

A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure or supply text for submission, choose the research question, provide data the student did not collect, or edit a draft until the sentences stop being the student's. Nor should a tutor distribute board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; those are linked at source. Reproducing them is a copyright matter, and unreleased material is a malpractice exposure.

A practical test for a parent weighing a quote: if the work being offered could be shown to the school's Diploma coordinator without discomfort, it is on the right side of the line. Criterion feedback passes that test. A returned draft with new paragraphs in it does not. Ask where a prospective tutor's line sits before paying, and treat an accommodating answer as the answer.

08

Availability and what a straight answer sounds like

  • Scarce components are named rather than quietly covered by a generalist
  • A realistic timescale beats an immediate yes
  • Ask whether the tutor teaches this subject at this level every week
  • The free trial is one session, no card required, with the actual specialist

No provider in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is itself a finding. Specialist supply is finite, and the combinations families most often need urgently are the scarcest: Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level Paper 3, Chemistry Higher Level mechanisms, a less commonly taught Diploma language, IGCSE Computer Science pseudocode to the specification style. An immediate yes to every request is either a guess or a generalist.

The honest version is a realistic timescale and the alternatives, including the alternative of waiting. Where a UAE-based specialist is unavailable, the tutor may be based elsewhere and working to Gulf Standard Time, and that is disclosed rather than concealed behind a contact number. It makes no practical difference to an online lesson, but a parent is entitled to know it before booking rather than to infer it later.

This matters commercially as much as ethically. A family in Dubai Investments Park matched to a generalist spends the first four sessions paying for someone to read the specification, which at the mid-market band is several hundred dirhams for no teaching. Asking whether the tutor teaches this subject at this level weekly is the cheapest piece of diligence available and it takes one sentence.

The free trial lesson exists so a mismatch costs an hour rather than a term. It is free with no card required, and the only condition is that it is a single session with the specialist who would actually teach the subject. If the fit is wrong, say so and a different specialist is proposed. If nobody suitable exists for the component, that is said plainly, because sending a family elsewhere is cheaper for them than taking their money.

Where we tutor

Dubai Investments Park and the southern belt

Greenfield International School sits in Dubai Investments Park, at the southern edge of the city's residential spread. Local tuition supply here is thinner than almost anywhere else in Dubai, and that scarcity is itself a price and a choice constraint.

Dubai Investments Park

The school's own area, mixing residential compounds with light industry. Few independent tutors live here, so an in-home option generally means someone driving in from Jumeirah or Al Barsha and pricing the journey.

Green Community

An established low-rise community with mature landscaping and a long-settled expatriate population. Short school runs make a 4.30pm session workable, which is the most efficient slot in the week.

Jebel Ali Village and The Gardens

Older villa and apartment stock with a broad curriculum mix across households. Cross-board questions, particularly IGCSE against MYP, come up here regularly.

Dubai Production City and Studio City

Mid-rise communities along the Al Khail corridor with growing school-age numbers and almost no specialist tuition nearby, which makes the online pool the practical route to a Higher Level tutor.

Remraam and Dubailand southern plots

Affordable apartment communities with long bus journeys. Homework starts late, so sessions after 6.30pm are the norm and an in-home tutor arriving at 7pm has usually lost a day's capacity to get there.

Jumeirah Golf Estates and Sports City

Villa communities with higher household budgets, where in-home rates push toward the AED 350 to 500 end of the published range simply because the demand supports it.

Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

Dense newer communities along the metro line with a young demographic. Multi-child households are common, which changes the per-child arithmetic and makes the group-versus-one-to-one question a live one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai Investments Park and Green Community

The cluster around Greenfield International School mixes IB continuum and British-route provision across a wide area rather than a tight radius, so families compare curricula and tuition models at the same time. Journeys here are longer than in central Dubai, which shapes every scheduling decision.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Count the whole cost, not the hourly rate

Before comparing providers, write down the hourly rate, whether marking is included, what a missed session costs, who teaches each week, and what happens if the tutor leaves mid-term. Across a two-year Diploma those terms can outweigh fifty dirhams an hour, and none of them appears on a pricing page.

  2. 02

Confirm the syllabus codes in writing

Email the school's exams officer for the board, the syllabus codes and the tiers your child is entered for. It is free, it takes one message, and it prevents the two most expensive errors available: revision bought for the wrong specification, and an entry decision discovered after the deadline has passed.

  3. 03

Buy one marked timed paper first

A past paper under exam conditions, marked against the published scheme, with a written diagnosis naming the failing component. This is the cheapest useful hour in the whole plan because it determines every hour after it, and it often shortens the plan considerably.

Take the free trial, then sequence the subjects

One free session with the specialist who would teach, no card required. If more than one subject is weak, start with the one costing most marks and add the second only when the first has been re-tested. Sequencing holds the monthly cost near one subject's band instead of three.

Re-test, then stop or continue on purpose

At the end of the block the student sits a fresh unseen paper under the same conditions as the first. Either the component moved or it did not. If it did not, the diagnosis was wrong and the plan changes. Extending an unchanged plan is how families spend steadily and move nothing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Models compared, not brands

The comparison on this page is between business models on terms a family can verify, with rates attributed to whoever published them and the month they were read. Every competitor in this market compares itself to an unnamed set of other platforms, which tells a parent nothing they can act on.

No journey inside the hour

Because delivery is online, nothing in the rate pays for a drive to Dubai Investments Park. In southern Dubai that is a larger share of the in-home premium than it is in Jumeirah or Al Barsha, so removing it saves more here than it would closer to the centre.

The specialist pool rather than the local one

An in-home arrangement in Dubai Investments Park means choosing from whoever will drive south on a weekday. Online, the choice is whoever teaches that component weekly. For scarce components the difference is not a matter of degree; it is the difference between someone and nobody.

Extras named before you commit

Entry fees at the wrong tier, resit entries, textbooks for the wrong syllabus code, sessions billed and lost to traffic, marking charged separately. Each is a real cost that sits outside the hourly rate, and each is avoidable with one question asked before signing rather than after.

Permit position stated accurately

The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free of charge for two years, so licensing is not a cost to be passed on. No fine amounts are published and none are quoted here. IB Gram holds no KHDA Educational Services Permit, operates no UAE centre, and describes no tutor as KHDA-approved.

Coverage limits disclosed

If no specialist is free for the component you need at the time you need it, you are told, with a realistic timescale. Being told no quickly is cheaper for a family than paying a generalist to read the specification for four sessions, which is the usual alternative.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Which tuition model is best value for a Greenfield International School family?+

It depends on the problem rather than the price. A tuition centre running small groups to a fixed scheme is reasonable value for broad content coverage and poor value for one diagnosed component. An independent in-home tutor at AED 200 to 500 is buying you a person in the room and a short local shortlist. An online one-to-one specialist at AED 150 to 450 and above buys subject depth with no travel priced in. Compare the contractual terms as well: who teaches each session, whether marking is included, and what a missed session costs across a two-year Diploma.

Is small-group tuition cheaper than one-to-one in Dubai?+

Per student, almost always, because the tutor's hour is shared. Whether it is better value depends entirely on whether the students share the same problem. A group working through a scheme of work suits three students with the same content gap and suits nobody whose issue is method, timing or command-word reading, since those are individual habits. Ask what the group size is, whether it is fixed for the term, and how the scheme was chosen. A centre with premises in Dubai also needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is worth confirming.

What should I budget for a full IB Diploma at Greenfield International School?+

Using published market figures rather than ours: one subject at one weekly session runs roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month at mid-market rates, or AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above in the specialist exam-year band, per Bestimate's Dubai estimates. Across a ten-month year that is AED 6,000 to 20,000 for one subject. Two Higher Levels plus Internal Assessment coaching multiplies it. Sequencing subjects rather than running them in parallel is the single largest saving available, and it usually produces more movement because a student can absorb one habit change at a time.

What costs do parents in Dubai forget to budget for?+

Four recur. An examination entry made at the wrong tier, which costs a full entry fee and a term. A resit entry in a later series when an entry decision was taken without evidence. Textbooks bought for the wrong syllabus code, which teach content that will not be examined. And sessions billed but lost, which happens with in-home arrangements when an afternoon drive goes wrong. Marking charged separately from the hour is a fifth. None of these appears on a pricing page, and all five are avoidable by asking the exams officer and the provider one question each.

Why is an in-home tutor more expensive in Dubai Investments Park than in Jumeirah?+

Because the journey is longer and the local supply is thinner. A tutor driving from Al Barsha or Jumeirah to Dubai Investments Park in the afternoon spends most of an hour each way and can teach perhaps two sessions in an evening instead of four, and the rate carries that lost capacity. The second effect is less visible: the family is choosing from whoever is willing to make that drive, which for scarce components may be nobody. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case, so the journey is removed rather than negotiated.

Is it cheaper to start tutoring in the Middle Years Programme or wait for the Diploma?+

Far cheaper to start when the problem appears, which at a continuum school is usually in the Middle Years Programme even though nothing external flags it. Securing algebraic fluency in Year 9 takes four to six sessions at mid-market rates. The same gap met in Year 12 is a term of work at specialist exam-year rates, running backwards through material the student is being taught at the same time. A cheap way to see it coming is one timed paper a term from the board the student will eventually sit, marked honestly against the published scheme.

Do group classes at a tuition centre need a licence in Dubai?+

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit issued to training institutes. The process begins with initial approval, allows a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and requires annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is different from the MoHRE private tuition work permit an individual tutor holds, which was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. If a centre describes itself as KHDA-approved, asking for the permit number is reasonable.

Can we reduce cost by using one tutor for two children?+

With an in-home tutor it usually does reduce cost, because one journey covers two sessions, and that is much of the reason families arrange it. Online there is no journey to share, so the saving largely disappears, and what is traded instead is subject fit. A tutor strong in Higher Level Chemistry is not automatically right for a Year 8 mathematics gap. Separate specialists in separate slots costs more per hour and generally less per mark moved. If budget is the binding constraint, sequencing the two children's blocks is a better lever than sharing a tutor.

Does a higher hourly rate mean a better tutor?+

Not reliably. Rate reflects scarcity, level taught, travel and the claim being made. A tutor at the specialist band should be able to read a marked script and name the failing component, which is the capability worth paying for. A rate at the examiner-led end, which BartyED publishes at AED 650, is pricing a credential, and a parent should ask for evidence of current status rather than accepting the label. Examiner status should never be presented as access to marking, boundaries or paper content. Ask what the extra hundred dirhams an hour specifically buys.

How many sessions should we book to start with?+

Four to six, as a block with a defined end, after a marked timed paper has produced a written diagnosis. That is enough to shift a method, timing or command-word problem and short enough that a wrong diagnosis costs little. Do not open with a term-long standing commitment, and be wary of a provider that requires one. The block should end with a fresh unseen paper under the same conditions as the first, so the decision to continue is made against evidence rather than against the impression that sessions have been going well.

Can sessions pause during school holidays and family travel?+

Yes, and because lessons are online a pause costs nothing on either side; no journey has been committed and the same tutor and slot can resume. Some Dubai families prefer the opposite and use the summer for a concentrated block, which works well for content rebuilding when the school term is not competing for the same hours. Sessions can also follow a student who is travelling, since the only requirement is a connection and a workable time zone offset. Decide which shape you want before the holiday rather than during it.

Will my child's own teacher at Greenfield International School tutor them privately?+

You should not plan on it. The MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and in Abu Dhabi ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school. Treat the detail as press-reported and verify against current policy, but the direction is clear and no reputable provider should market a child's own teacher as a private option. An independent subject specialist avoids the question entirely.

Does tutoring help with UAE certificate equivalency?+

Only indirectly, and it is not a requirement for it. Equivalency is a process the Ministry of Education runs, and no tutoring provider performs it, guarantees it or accelerates it. What is published for the British track is passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from the five, plus one subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. No IB points threshold appears in that source, so verify any IB figure on moe.gov.ae directly.

What does a mismatched tutor cost us before we can change?+

That is what the free trial is for. It is a single session, free, with no card required, taken with the specialist who would actually teach the subject, so a mismatch costs an hour rather than a term. If the fit is wrong afterwards, say so early and a different specialist is proposed. The question worth asking any provider at sign-up is who teaches each session by name, because a named match that quietly becomes a rota is the most common version of this problem in Dubai and the hardest to spot from an invoice.

Compare the terms, then buy one marked paper

For a family at Greenfield International School weighing tuition options, two steps come before any spending. Write down each provider's terms as well as its rate: who teaches each session, whether marking is included, what a missed session costs, and what happens if the tutor leaves. Then buy one marked timed paper from the correct board and syllabus code and read the written diagnosis. Between them those two things tell you which model you need and for how long, which is the difference between a plan that lasts two years and one abandoned in the second term. Lessons run one-to-one online in Gulf Standard Time, with no journey priced into the hour.
