IB Home Tutor in Dubai Harbour

Families looking for an IB home tutor in Dubai Harbour usually start mid-term, with a report in hand and a term already running. This page is organised around that calendar: what the Diploma year demands by when, who is legally permitted to tutor privately in the UAE, what tutoring costs against a Dubai school fee, and what happens when nobody is free. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Private tuition in the UAE runs on a MoHRE permit, granted free for two years
  • KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually; it does not endorse tutors
  • Coverage limits disclosed rather than implied
  • Free trial lesson, one per student, no card required

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Harbour

Starting mid-term in a Harbour tower, and what the calendar allows

Dubai Harbour is a recently delivered district built around a cruise terminal and a set of marina berths, sitting between Emaar Beachfront and the approach to Palm Jumeirah. Its towers filled quickly and with families who arrived from several different school systems, which means a great many of the Diploma students living here started their programme somewhere else. That produces a particular pattern of enquiry: not "we are planning for two years" but "we are eleven weeks into a term and the report was worse than expected".

The useful answer to that enquiry is a calendar answer. The Diploma year has fixed points and they are not evenly spaced. Internal assessment deadlines sit well ahead of the external papers. Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay milestones are set by the school and cluster in the middle of the two years. Mock windows fall between. A tutor booked in November of DP1 can still change the shape of the whole programme; a tutor booked in February of DP2 is working inside a fixed set of remaining weeks, and the plan has to say what will not be covered.

UAE schools sit the May session. This page publishes no specific IB examination or results date, because none could be confirmed from the IB directly for this project, and a wrong date that a parent plans around is worse than no date at all. Your school's Diploma coordinator holds the real calendar, and the first request to make of them is for the internal deadlines in writing: internal assessments, the Extended Essay stages, the TOK components and the mock window.

There is a second thing worth settling early, because it is specific to tutoring in this country and almost nobody explains it. Private tuition in the UAE is regulated. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and individuals offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. If you are considering an independent tutor who will visit a Harbour address, that is a reasonable question to ask them. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service.

The sections that follow set out the Diploma calendar in planning form, explain who may legally provide private tuition here and how a parent can check, put tutoring cost in context against a Dubai school fee under the current fee position, compare online delivery with what an in-home visit to this district actually involves, describe the regulator map across the emirates, state our coverage limits honestly, and explain the academic-honesty boundary on Diploma coursework. Confirm every date and weighting with your school before you build a plan on it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A mid-term enquiry needs the right stage identified before anything else, because the same subject needs different work at each. These are the stages Dubai Harbour families contact us from.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No external examination. Progress is tracked through units of inquiry, a portfolio and the Year 6 Exhibition. Mid-year arrivals are common in this district, and the useful first step is establishing reading fluency and number sense against the year group rather than assuming a transcript transfers meaningfully.

Primary children here travel out to Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or Jumeirah before 07:00 and return after 15:30. A short focused session at 17:00 fits that day; anything earlier competes with a child who has not eaten.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, converted to a grade of one to seven by the school's own boundary table. Students arriving mid-programme from another system frequently hold strong content knowledge and have never been assessed on investigation or reflection, which is where their first criterion marks land.

Some schools serving this district run the MYP to Year 9 then switch to IGCSE. Establish the intended route before committing to criterion-specific work, because the criteria stop applying at the switch.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with published component weightings, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, with up to three bonus points from the TOK and EE grades. The internal assessment in most subjects carries roughly a fifth of the grade and its deadline is the earliest hard date in the year.

UAE candidates sit the May session. Ask the coordinator for all internal deadlines in writing at the start of each year, because they are the dates a tutoring plan is actually built against.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two DP courses taken with a career-related study, a reflective project and a core of personal and professional skills. The DP courses inside it are marked to full Diploma standards, so subject tutoring is identical, while the reflective project adds its own deadline to the calendar.

CP provision across Dubai is narrow, so a family here pursuing it is choosing between a small number of schools rather than between neighbourhoods.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma and Middle Years subjects Dubai Harbour families ask for most. Each description says what the subject assesses and where a mid-term start typically finds the gap.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebra, calculus and proof, with one paper sat without a calculator. A mid-term start usually finds that the calculator has been concealing weak algebraic fluency, which surfaces in the first mock and is mechanical to repair with a short drilling block.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with technology assumed throughout. Mid-year arrivals from systems that taught mathematics more abstractly often underestimate the written interpretation this course demands, and lose marks for stating a result without commenting on it.

Physics

HL and SL

Motion, matter, waves, fields and nuclear content, assessed through a data-based and multiple-choice paper, an extended-response paper and an individual investigation. Uncertainty treatment is the most reliably recoverable loss in the subject.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity across both years, with organic mechanisms arriving in the second. A student who holds bonding as vocabulary rather than as electron behaviour can pass the first year and then stall completely on mechanisms.

Biology

HL and SL

Wide content with command-term sensitivity. The biggest single loss is answering a cheaper command term than the one printed, which is a habit rather than a knowledge gap and takes two or three sessions to break.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram-led extended response with three commentaries drawn from published news articles. Unlabelled axes and unmarked shift directions cost more than weak theory, because the diagram is the first thing the examiner reads.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study driven with a research project at Higher Level. Application marks dominate, so a definition applied to no named organisation collects the first mark and stops. Project failure is usually scope failure rather than analysis failure.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Guided analysis, a comparative essay and the Individual Oral, with an additional essay at Higher Level. The Individual Oral is the most coachable component in the Diploma because the student chooses the global issue and the extracts.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition of three objects against a prescribed prompt and an essay on a prescribed title with a word ceiling. Graded A to E and feeding the bonus points. Students lose marks describing knowledge rather than examining how claims are justified.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece supervised at school, with criteria weighted heavily towards critical thinking. Scope is the usual failure, and it is decided in the first two sessions of the project or not at all.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Dubai private schools must deliver Arabic regardless of the licensed curriculum, so students here sit it alongside their Diploma courses. Support has to be matched to the stream the school has placed them in, because the material is not interchangeable.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

A mid-term start needs the format chosen against the weeks remaining rather than against a preference. These three are what we schedule for this district.

Weekly one-to-one across a full year

A fixed weekly slot with the same tutor for a subject, running from a mid-term start through to the end of the school year. Suitable from a DP1 start or an early DP2 one, where there is enough runway for diagnosis, repair and consolidation in sequence rather than all at once.

  • Same tutor throughout, so the diagnosis compounds
  • Topic order set by the diagnosis, not the textbook
  • Shared working page retained for revision
  • Reviewed against the school's reporting cycle

Deadline-driven coursework block

Sessions scheduled backwards from a specific internal deadline: an internal assessment, an Extended Essay stage, a TOK component. The timing is set by the school and the work is criterion-mapped. Feedback is on the student's own drafts, because the writing has to be theirs under IB rules.

  • Scheduled from the school's own deadline backwards
  • Criteria named by letter with their mark allocations
  • Scope settled before any drafting begins
  • Feedback on the student's own text only

Short pre-mock or pre-paper block

Two sessions a week across six to ten weeks, aimed at a mock window or the final papers. Past-paper led from the first session, with the student marking their own work against the official scheme and the tutor auditing. Ends when the window closes rather than rolling onwards.

  • Sequenced backwards from the window
  • Components sat under real timing
  • Student marks first, tutor audits second
  • Finite by design, with a stated end point

The Diploma year as a planning calendar

The external papers are the last thing that happens and almost nothing in a Diploma year is scheduled relative to them. The dates that bind are internal: the deadline for each subject's internal assessment, the staged deadlines for the Extended Essay, the TOK exhibition and essay submissions, and the school's mock window. Those are set by your school, they differ between schools in this cluster, and they are the dates a tutoring plan has to be built on. A family who starts planning from the examination month has started from the only date that cannot be influenced.

Counting backwards changes decisions. An internal assessment carrying roughly a fifth of a subject grade, due in eight weeks, outranks revision for papers that are months away, because the deadline is fixed and the revision is not. An Extended Essay with an unworkable research question and a first-draft deadline approaching needs a scope conversation this week, not after the draft exists. A mock window six weeks out is the right moment for timed papers and the wrong moment to begin new content.

The request to make of your school is specific and should be in writing: all internal deadlines for the year, the mock window, and the reporting dates. With that list a plan can be sequenced honestly, including the part where you decide what will not be covered. Without it, every session is scheduled against an impression. We ask for it in the first message because it changes which tutor and which block we propose, and because the families who have it get a plan while the others get a conversation.

Who may legally give private tuition in the UAE

This is the question UAE parents ask most and tutoring sites answer least. Private tuition here is permitted and regulated. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of fine amounts has been published, so no figure appears here: Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties, and a figure circulating informally could not be verified. The official application route is MoHRE's own service, listed as issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Two further points matter in practice. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with the permit's code of conduct also barring service to students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Nobody should market a child's own teacher as a private tutor.

Tutoring cost in context, against a Dubai school fee

Tutoring is usually assessed in isolation and it sits inside a larger education budget, so the context is worth setting out. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. Against a frozen fee, a recurring tutoring commitment is the variable part of the household education budget and the part worth planning by term rather than by month.

The market figures themselves, read in October 2026 and attributed to the sources that published them. Budget online provision runs from AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors.

Converting to a budget line is where families get caught. One specialist session a week is a materially different commitment from two, and a two-year Diploma plan across three Higher Level subjects is different again. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one hour a week are AED 240 to 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to 1,200 mid, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Those describe the market rather than IB Gram's rates; ours are fixed after the free trial once the subject count and session frequency are known.

What an in-home visit to this district actually involves

Dubai Harbour is approached from a single corridor off King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, shared with Emaar Beachfront and the Palm Jumeirah approach. The district contains a cruise terminal, so on call days the afternoon traffic changes without much warning. Its towers have shared basements that visitors cannot use without a resident clearing access. A tutor travelling to a Harbour address therefore commits roughly two and a quarter hours to deliver one, and does so across the window when the entire cluster is moving.

That cost appears twice. It appears in the rate, where the in-home band sits above the online band for the same qualification, and it appears in reliability, because a fixed appointment that depends on a single approach road will not all happen. Across a thirty-session year, the sessions that do not take place are the real cost, and they tend to cluster in the weeks before a deadline when the road is busiest and the family has least slack.

Online one-to-one removes both. The tutor can be anywhere, so the shortlist is drawn on subject and level rather than on willingness to drive. The slot can shift by half an hour without anyone losing an evening, and it survives a family trip, which matters in a district with this much international movement. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE, so the comparison below is between our online sessions and what the local in-home market charges and delivers. Where a tutor in the room is genuinely required, the rates above tell you what that costs here.

Which regulator governs your child's school

Families moving between emirates, which happens often in this district, discover that private education is regulated at emirate level rather than federally. In Dubai the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah's Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate, and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same there.

For Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, the Ministry of Education plays the supervisory role for private schools. The powers are not identical across the five: Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum and fee approval sit with the emirate regulator rather than only inspection. That matters to a family comparing schools across emirates, because the approval regime behind two apparently similar schools is not the same.

What none of these regulators does is endorse a tutor or a tutoring platform. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation and claims none. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific instrument issued to training institutes with premises, and any page offering you a regulator-approved tutor is offering a credential that is not issued in that form. Naming a regulator and explaining what it does is useful; implying its endorsement is not, and it is the single most common misrepresentation in this market.

Coverage, and what happens when nobody is free

No tutoring service covers every subject at every level at every hour, and the ones that imply otherwise are the ones that leave families discovering the gap in week eight. We would rather publish the position. For widely taught subjects at Standard Level, matching is usually quick and the only real variable is the hour. For Higher Level sciences, Maths Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and Extended Essay support in a narrow discipline, the pool is genuinely small, and at the most popular evening hours in the spring it is sometimes empty for a given week.

When that happens the honest options are three. A different hour with the right specialist, which usually means a weekend morning rather than a weekday evening. A different subject started first, with the scarce one scheduled when a slot opens. Or a short intensive block with a specialist whose weekly availability is limited but who can commit to a defined number of sessions. We will set those out and let you choose, rather than putting a generalist into a specialist slot and hoping the diagnosis holds.

Not one of the competitor pages researched for this market publishes a coverage limit at all. Several route UAE parents to an overseas telephone number, which conceals non-UAE delivery rather than disclosing it. Our position is that the limit is a fact about supply rather than a weakness to hide: there are only so many people who teach Chemistry at Higher Level to a Diploma standard, and a page that pretends otherwise is making a promise somebody else has to break.

Academic honesty on Diploma coursework

  • Coursework carries roughly a fifth of most Diploma subject grades
  • A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own draft
  • A tutor does not write, complete, edit to submission or supply data
  • Board and IB material is referenced and linked, never redistributed

A large share of each Diploma subject grade sits in work the student produces under school supervision, which makes coursework the most sensitive area in IB tutoring and the one where this market contains outright malpractice. One page researched for this project sells completed internal assessments at a published price. A student who submits bought work risks the loss of the entire Diploma, and the school is obliged to report it. This is not a theoretical risk and it is marketed openly.

The permitted work is substantial and worth stating positively. A tutor may teach the content a piece depends on, explain what each lettered criterion requires and what distinguishes the bands, help narrow a research question until it is answerable within the word limit, review a method and ask whether the data supports the conclusion, point out that a table carries no uncertainties, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. That is most of what genuinely helps.

What a tutor may not do is write, rewrite or complete any part of the piece, supply paragraphs for insertion, select or process the data, or produce a worked version to adapt. Nor may any tutor supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads: those are referenced and linked to their official source. Our tutors work on the first list, decline the second explicitly, and will tell a student directly when a request has crossed the line rather than quietly accommodating it.

Starting from a mid-term enquiry in Dubai Harbour

  • Send year group, subjects and levels, school, internal deadlines, marked work and free hours
  • Free trial producing a written view of where the marks are going
  • The plan names what will not be covered in the weeks available
  • We state coverage gaps rather than filling slots with a near match

Send five things: the year group and subjects with levels, the school, the internal deadlines for the remainder of the year, the most recent marked work, and the hours that genuinely exist after a bus that leaves before 07:00 and returns after 15:30. The deadlines are the item most often omitted and the one that most changes our answer, because a plan that ignores a fixed date in eight weeks is not a plan.

We match a specialist per subject and propose slots in Gulf Standard Time. One free trial lesson per student, no card required, which the tutor uses to diagnose rather than to sell: by the end of it you should have a written view of where the marks are going, which components are at risk, and how many sessions each gap realistically needs. You keep that whether or not you continue with us.

Then the honest part. A mid-term start has a finite number of usable weeks, and the plan should name what will not be covered rather than implying everything will be. We cannot promise a grade and nobody who has read a mark scheme would. Some subjects at some hours have no specialist free that week and we will say so. And a weekly hour steers the student's other hours without replacing them, which is the one condition that no tutoring arrangement can work around.

One practical suggestion for the first message. Write down the two or three hours in the week that are genuinely free, not the hours that would be convenient if everything ran on time. Families consistently nominate 16:30 and then lose a third of the sessions, and the conclusion drawn afterwards is that tutoring did not work rather than that the slot never existed. An honest hour chosen once is worth more than a better hour negotiated every week.

Where we tutor

Dubai Harbour and the districts around it

Where a family lives decides the hour a session can run, which in a Diploma year is the difference between a plan holding and a plan shedding weeks. These are the neighbouring communities.

Dubai Harbour

A new district built around the cruise terminal and marina berths, with residential towers and no school or tuition centre inside it. Cruise-call days add afternoon traffic that is hard to predict a week ahead, which matters when a slot is fixed.

Emaar Beachfront

The adjoining reclaimed peninsula, reached through the same corridor off King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street. Identical school-run pattern and identical evening constraints, so families compare notes and reach the same conclusions.

Dubai Marina

Older, denser and tram-served, with the largest local pool of travelling tutors. The pool thins sharply for Higher Level subjects, and the Marina's own congestion consumes the hour a Diploma session needs.

JBR

Walkable and long settled, with the most mature independent tutoring market in the cluster. Families here still describe the same difficulty: finding someone who can diagnose a component rather than re-teach a topic.

Palm Jumeirah

Reached from the same approach road, with one trunk road inside it and separate access for frontline villas and towers. In-home tutors commonly quote a travel surcharge for it, which lands on the hourly rate.

Al Sufouh

Where much of the cluster's Diploma teaching happens, including long-established IB provision. Worth knowing because internal assessment deadlines along this corridor tend to fall within a few weeks of each other.

Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The second schooling direction, with several full IB continuum schools and British provision alongside. Journey times are more predictable in the morning than in the afternoon, which surprises families in their first term here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Harbour

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The main secondary destination from Dubai Harbour, combining full IB continuum schools with British provision running IGCSE before A Level or the Diploma. Internal deadline calendars differ between them, which is why a plan has to be built on your own school's dates rather than on a general pattern.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • American School of Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai College

Jumeirah, Al Safa and The Meadows

The second commute direction from the Harbour approach, chosen on curriculum fit rather than distance. Several of these schools run the IB continuum from primary, which matters for the many families here who arrived mid-programme from another country.

  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • JESS Jumeirah
  • Horizon English School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

Schools are named only to describe the assessment calendar and context around your child. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school for the deadline list

Every internal assessment deadline, the Extended Essay stages, the TOK submissions, the mock window and the reporting dates, in writing. That list is the spine of any plan, and the families who arrive with it get a sequenced proposal rather than a general conversation about tutoring.

  2. 02

Send the most recent marked work

A marked script converts the first session from a discussion into a diagnosis: lost marks sorted by component, topic and error type, with an estimate against each. A reported grade cannot distinguish between a content gap and a technique habit, and those need different tutors and different session counts.

  3. 03

Match a specialist per subject and level

One tutor per subject, chosen for the component rather than for proximity to the Marina. Three Higher Levels means three names. Where a subject and hour combination has nobody free, we say so and set out the fallback options instead of offering the nearest available person.

  4. 04

Free trial, then a sequenced plan

One trial lesson per student, no card required. It ends with a written diagnosis and a plan ordered against your school's own deadlines, including the items not worth chasing in the weeks remaining. That document is yours regardless of what you decide next.

  5. 05

    Review at the reporting cycle

Each school report and each mock is a checkpoint rather than a summary. Topics that are secure drop out of the plan, components the mock exposed move forward, and before an external window the work becomes past-paper led under timed conditions with the student self-marking.

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a MoHRE permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free for two years. We set out who is eligible and what to ask, and we publish no fine amounts because none have been published officially.

Cost shown in context, with sources

Every AED figure is attributed to the source that published it and read in October 2026, and set against the current Dubai school fee position KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026. Three of seven researched competitor pages publish no price at all.

Coverage limits published

Higher Level sciences and Maths AA at Higher Level are genuinely scarce at popular hours. We state that and set out the fallback rather than filling the slot, because no researched competitor in this market discloses a coverage limit anywhere.

No regulator presented as an endorsement

KHDA, ADEK, SPEA and the Ministry of Education regulate schools. None endorses a tutor. IB Gram holds no accreditation from any of them, and the phrase describing otherwise is the most dangerous one available in this market.

Coursework support that keeps the student's authorship

Tutors explain criteria, narrow questions, question methods and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write, complete, edit to submission or supply data, and they decline that request rather than negotiating around it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Harbour: your questions answered

Do you send an IB home tutor to apartments in Dubai Harbour?+

No. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we provide only in India. Independent tutors in Dubai do visit this district, and market sources quote AED 180 to 500 an hour for in-home one-to-one with travel included. What that premium buys is presence. What it costs here is reliability, because the approach corridor and a cruise terminal make a fixed weekday arrival time genuinely unpredictable.

Is private tutoring legal in the UAE, and what should I check?+

It is legal and regulated. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published. Ask any independent tutor whether they hold a current permit.

Which deadlines should I ask my child's school for?+

Every internal assessment deadline for the year, the staged Extended Essay deadlines, the TOK exhibition and essay submission dates, the mock window and the reporting dates. Ask in writing. Those are the dates a tutoring plan is built on, because they are fixed and the revision timetable is not. Families who arrive with that list get a sequenced plan in the trial lesson; families without it spend the first session establishing what the list would have told us.

We are starting in the middle of DP2. What can realistically change?+

That depends on what the most recent marked work shows. Losses to command terms, unshown method, unattempted final questions and a weak internal assessment evaluation are recoverable in weeks. A two-year foundation gap in a Higher Level science is not, within one term. The useful plan names what will not be covered and concentrates the remaining weeks on the highest-value items, which is a less encouraging answer than the alternative and a considerably more useful one.

Where does tutoring sit against a Dubai school fee that is not rising?+

KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. Against a frozen fee, tutoring is the variable part of the budget. Market monthly estimates for one session a week run AED 240 to 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support, read in October 2026.

Who regulates our school if we move from Dubai to another emirate?+

It changes with the emirate. Dubai is KHDA. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah is the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah the Department of Knowledge, and both approve fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods rather than only inspecting. Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah fall under the Ministry of Education. None of the five endorses tutors, whatever any tutoring site implies.

What happens if there is no specialist free for our subject and hour?+

We tell you and set out three options: a different hour with the right specialist, which usually means a weekend morning; a different subject started first while the scarce one waits for a slot; or a defined short block with a specialist whose weekly availability is limited. Higher Level sciences and Maths AA at Higher Level are the scarcest, particularly at popular spring evening hours. No researched competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit at all.

Can a tutor help with my child's internal assessment?+

Within a clear boundary, yes. A tutor may teach the content it rests on, explain what each lettered criterion requires, help narrow the research question until it fits the word limit, question the method, ask whether the data supports the conclusion, and give written feedback on a draft your child has written. A tutor may not write any part of it, process the data or edit it to completion. One page in this market sells finished internal assessments outright; submitting one risks the whole Diploma.

Is it acceptable to hire a teacher from our own child's school?+

Not where that student is enrolled at the teacher's own school. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's school. Treat the precise ADEK wording as press-reported and verify against the current policy document. Either way, nobody should be marketing your child's own teacher to you as a private tutor.

What time of day works for a Diploma session in this district?+

17:00 at the earliest on a weekday, 17:30 if the school run from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh is unreliable. Children here leave before 07:00 and return after 15:30, and the hour after that belongs to food. Weekend mornings are where we schedule coursework and Extended Essay work, because criterion-mapped sessions need ninety uninterrupted minutes rather than a tired hour before dinner. Cruise-call days are the reason a slot that can move is worth more than one that cannot.

Do you provide past papers and mark schemes?+

No. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyrighted, and redistributing unreleased material creates an exposure for the student rather than for whoever hosts it. We reference and explain them in sessions and link the official source, and your school will usually release recent material on request because that is what it is for. Any site offering a complete archive as free downloads should prompt the question of where it came from.

Our child arrived mid-programme from another country. Where do we start?+

With a diagnostic session rather than with the transcript. This district filled recently and with families from several different school systems, so what a student is missing depends entirely on what their previous system emphasised, and a transcript will not show it. One session on mixed material across the subject produces a clearer picture than any report, and it is the point at which a sensible plan can be written. Bring whatever marked work the previous school released.

How many subjects should we start with?+

One, usually the weakest, unless a fixed deadline in another subject makes it urgent. Starting three subjects at once in a mid-term enquiry crowds out the independent work that makes sessions productive, and a Diploma student here is already losing ninety minutes a day to the school run. Add a second subject once the pattern in the first is clear, which is usually three or four weeks. We will say this rather than proposing three appointments in week one.

Does online tutoring work for a student who learns better face to face?+

For Diploma work it generally does, because the subject is already mediated through written working. A shared page lets the tutor watch a diagram, a derivation or an essay plan appear and intervene at the line where the reasoning slips, which is harder across a dining table than people assume. The page persists, so revision happens from the student's own corrected work. Where a screen genuinely struggles is with very young children, and we say so rather than claiming the format suits everyone equally.

Send the deadlines and we will sequence the term

A mid-term enquiry is a question about weeks, not about tutors. Send the year group, the subjects and levels, the school, the internal deadlines for the rest of the year, the most recent marked work, and the hours that genuinely exist after the run back to Dubai Harbour. We will match a specialist per subject, propose slots in Gulf Standard Time, and produce a plan sequenced against your school's own dates, including the items not worth chasing. One free trial lesson per student, no card required.
