IGCSE Home Tutor in Dubai Harbour

Most families searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Dubai Harbour are comparing providers rather than teachers: an agency, a marketplace, a freelancer from a community group, a tuition centre, or an online platform. Those models differ on rate, accountability and who actually turns up. This page compares them on the things you can verify. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Harbour

Comparing providers, not just tutors

A parent in a Dubai Harbour tower looking for IGCSE support will usually encounter five different kinds of seller within a week. An agency that matches you to a tutor and takes a margin. An international marketplace listing tutors by price and rating. A freelancer recommended in a community group, often a working teacher. A tuition centre with premises, usually running small groups. And an online platform. Those are not five versions of the same service. They differ in who employs the tutor, who is accountable when a session is missed, what verification exists, and how the rate is constructed.

The comparison that matters is therefore about model rather than about charm. A freelancer at AED 200 an hour who is excellent and unavailable for six weeks in the spring is worse value than a slightly dearer arrangement that holds. A centre group class at a lower rate per student is good value for a student who needs content coverage and poor value for one who needs a specific habit corrected. A marketplace listing a tutor at the lowest rate is usually listing a university student, which is adequate for Year 9 homework and thin for an Extended-tier paper.

The second comparison families here should make is about what the qualification is for. IGCSE is a gate rather than a destination, and for families in the UAE one of the gates it opens is Ministry of Education equivalency. On the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. One ranking competitor publishes six subjects as the requirement. The sourced figure is five, and the difference matters when subject choices are being made.

Dubai Harbour itself shapes the delivery question. The district is new, built around a cruise terminal and marina berths, approached through a single corridor off King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street shared with Emaar Beachfront and the Palm Jumeirah approach. There is no school and no tuition centre inside it. Tower basements need a resident to clear visitor access. Children travel out to Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or Jumeirah before 07:00 and return after 15:30. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video and does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service.

What follows compares the five provider models on rate and accountability, sets out the Ministry equivalency rules with their source, compares one-to-one against small-group and in-home formats for a student in this district, publishes the market rates with each figure attributed, explains what licensing each kind of provider actually needs, and compares the IGCSE route with the MYP route for the many families here whose school offers both. Verify the equivalency rules on the Ministry's own channel before acting on them, because this page describes rather than performs that process.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Which provider model suits you depends on where your child is in the two years, because the three stages need different things from a tutor. These are the positions families in this district book from.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9, the year before the course

No external examination, and the point at which tier and subject choices are shaped. A group class or a lower-cost tutor is genuinely sufficient here, because the work is consolidation rather than diagnosis. It is also the cheapest year in which to secure algebra, equation balancing and written explanation.

Several schools serving this district run the IB Middle Years Programme to Year 9 and then switch to IGCSE, so a Harbour family may be preparing for a change of assessment model rather than a continuation.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, content coverage

Two years of syllabus begin and the tier decision is taken, usually on evidence the school already holds. One-to-one support closes topics as they are taught, which is the cheapest grade movement in the qualification and the version least often bought because nothing has visibly gone wrong.

Ministry equivalency counts five subjects, so Year 10 is when it is worth checking that the subject basket will produce five eligible passes excluding Arabic and Islamic education.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, technique and the series

Content finishes and the work becomes mark-scheme literacy, timing and paper strategy. This is where provider model matters most, because a Year 11 block is twenty-odd appointments that all have to happen and the accountability differences between models become visible.

UAE candidates sit Cambridge in June or November and Pearson in May/June or November. The February/March Cambridge series is offered to India only and must not feature in a Dubai plan.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Dubai Harbour families most often ask about, with the code where it matters and a note on which provider model usually serves each well.

Mathematics, Cambridge 0580 or Edexcel 4MA1

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Tiered, with different paper pairs and grade ceilings. Needs one-to-one at Extended tier because the losses are individual habits: unshown method, ignored rounding instructions, unit conversion. A group class cannot see which of those applies to your child.

Chemistry, Cambridge 0620 or Edexcel 4CH1

Core and Extended

Moles, ionic equations and qualitative analysis carry disproportionate marks. Group teaching works for content coverage in Year 10 and poorly for Year 11 diagnosis, because the reasoning gaps differ student by student.

Physics, Cambridge 0625 or Edexcel 4PH1

Core and Extended

Electricity and circuits dominate the losses, usually from a circuit redrawn incorrectly before any analysis. This is visible only when someone watches the student draw, which is an argument for one-to-one over any group format.

Biology, Cambridge 0610 or Edexcel 4BI1

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and command-term sensitive. The breadth suits group coverage; the command-term repair does not, because it requires reading the student's own answers against mark schemes repeatedly.

English First Language, 0500 or 0990

Single tier

Reading response plus directed writing and composition. Composition improves fastest with individual feedback on the student's own writing, which no group format delivers at useful frequency.

English as a Second Language, 0510 or 0511

Single tier

A different examination from First Language English with its own components and speaking arrangements. Students moved between the two syllabuses need their practice material changed with them, which providers frequently miss.

Economics 0455

Core and Extended

Diagram-led, with data response rewarding the figures being read before the theory is written. Group classes handle the theory well; the diagram discipline that actually carries marks needs individual correction.

Business Studies 0450

Core and Extended

Application marks dominate, so a definition applied to no named context collects the first mark and stops. Case-study technique is teachable in a handful of individual sessions and is where most of the available improvement sits.

Additional Mathematics 0606

Extended level only

A separate qualification taken alongside 0580, assuming complete fluency in its algebra. Worth checking against the post-16 route before adding it, because for a student not yet fluent it produces two mediocre grades rather than one strong one.

Arabic as an additional language

School stream dependent

Dubai private schools must deliver Arabic regardless of the licensed curriculum, and Arab and non-Arab streams are taught separately. Support must match the stream the school has placed the child in, and note that Arabic is excluded from the five subjects Ministry equivalency counts.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The three formats available to a family in this district differ most in what happens when a week goes wrong. That is the comparison worth making before the rate comparison.

One-to-one online, weekly

A fixed weekly slot with the same tutor, matched to the syllabus code and tier, on live video with a shared working page. This is what IB Gram delivers to Dubai Harbour. The slot can move by thirty minutes, it survives a cruise-call afternoon and a family trip, and the tutor is selected on subject rather than on willingness to drive the approach road.

  • Same tutor weekly, matched to code and tier
  • Session moves rather than cancels when the afternoon goes wrong
  • Shared working page retained for revision
  • Tutor changed if the match is wrong, without renegotiating a contract

Small group, usually at a centre

Three to six students covering content together, at a lower rate per student. Genuinely good value for Year 9 and Year 10 content coverage where the need is exposure rather than diagnosis. Poor value in Year 11, because the marks a given student is losing are individual and a group format cannot see them.

  • Lower rate per student for content coverage
  • Works where the need is exposure, not diagnosis
  • Requires a second journey after the school run
  • Cannot address an individual habit such as unshown method

In-home one-to-one, from the local market

Not a service IB Gram provides anywhere in the UAE, and included here because it is the option this search is about. Independent tutors do visit this district and market sources quote AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. It buys a person in the room and carries the travel risk of a single approach corridor.

  • Quoted at AED 180-500 an hour by market sources
  • The rate includes travel, not additional qualification
  • Suits younger children who cannot hold attention on a screen
  • Reliability depends on one approach road and escorted parking

01

The five provider models, compared on what you can check

Every one of these models can deliver a good outcome and they fail in different ways, which is why comparing them on rate alone is misleading. An agency carries a margin and in exchange should carry accountability: a replacement when a tutor leaves, a record of what has been covered, a single point of contact. A marketplace is cheaper because it carries neither, and its ratings are generated by its own users rather than independently verified. A freelancer may be the best teacher available and is a single point of failure.

A tuition centre with premises is the only model that can offer group classes, and it is also the only model that requires a specific Dubai permit to exist: a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, obtained through initial approval and then permit and licence steps, renewed annually with the request made at least thirty days before expiry. An individual tutor needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit instead, which is granted free of charge for two years. Those are different instruments and neither one makes anybody KHDA-approved in the sense the phrase is usually marketed.

The questions worth asking any provider are the same across models, and the answers are checkable. Which syllabus code and tier will you teach? Who is the named tutor, and what have they taught at that tier? What happens if they become unavailable in week eight? Is there a written record of what has been covered? And, for an individual, do you hold a current MoHRE permit? A provider who answers all five specifically is a different proposition from one who answers with reassurance.

Ministry equivalency: what five IGCSE passes actually means

For families intending to use a UAE qualification pathway, Ministry of Education equivalency is the gate that follows the certificate, and it is barely mentioned anywhere in this market. On the British track, students must submit proof of five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

Two details matter when subjects are being chosen. First, Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects, so a basket that relies on them to reach five does not reach five. Second, the figure is five: one ranking competitor in this market publishes six as the requirement, which is wrong and would lead a family to enter an unnecessary subject. Publishing the correct rule is one of the few places where a tutoring page can straightforwardly beat a ranking page on accuracy.

For other curricula the rules differ. On the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB, no points threshold is published here, because none could be read on the Ministry's own site for this project, and an unsourced figure on a page like this would be a liability rather than a help. Verify every rule on the Ministry's own channel; equivalency is a process the authority performs and no tutoring provider can guarantee or carry out.

03

One-to-one, small group or a visit: which for which year

The format question has a clean answer that providers rarely give because it sometimes points away from the sale. In Year 9 and much of Year 10, where the need is content exposure and consolidation, a small group at a centre is good value and the shared pace is not a disadvantage. The student hears the material, works problems alongside others, and the cost per hour is lower. For a family in this district the trade is a second journey after the school run, which is the real price rather than the fee.

In Year 11, the calculation inverts. The marks a particular student is losing are individual: unshown method, a misread command term, a unit conversion, a circuit redrawn wrongly, an unattempted final question. A group format cannot see any of those, because the teaching is pitched at the group and the diagnosis would require reading one student's script closely. That is the point at which one-to-one becomes necessary rather than preferable, and it is also the point at which families most often economise.

The in-home option sits across both and is mostly a question about the student rather than the year. For a younger child who cannot hold attention on a screen, a person in the room is a genuine advantage and we say so. For a Year 10 or Year 11 candidate working through written papers, diagrams and mark schemes, the shared screen is not a compromise, and removing travel widens the shortlist to anyone who teaches the right code at the right tier. IB Gram provides no home visits anywhere in the UAE, so the comparison is between our online sessions and the local in-home market.

What you can actually verify about a rate

Start with what is published, because most of this market publishes nothing. Three of the seven competitor pages researched for this project quote no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family pays tuition in. One publishes a schema price range that contradicts the figure on the visible page. Against that background, the useful question to ask a provider is not what they charge but what their rate is constructed from and whether anything about it can be checked.

The figures that can be checked, read in October 2026 and attributed. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, both at the budget end and typically university-student provision. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist cover. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with BartyED at AED 650 at the premium end. Independent home tutors quote AED 200 to 500.

Those are market rates, not IB Gram's price list, and they are published here because a parent who can see the bands negotiates better with everybody including us. Two structural points follow from them. The in-home premium over the equivalent online rate is a travel charge rather than a quality difference. And a rate at the bottom of the range is almost always a university student, which is a sensible purchase for Year 9 homework support and a poor one for an Extended-tier paper in the spring of Year 11.

What licensing each kind of provider needs

  • An individual tutor: MoHRE private tuition permit, free for two years
  • A centre with premises: KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute
  • The centre permit belongs to the institute, not to its teachers
  • No fine amounts are published officially, so none appear here

This is where a lot of marketing goes wrong, so it is worth stating precisely. An individual providing private tuition in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of amounts has been published, so none appears here. The application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service through its app, website and e-services system.

An operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal. It requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, obtained through initial approval followed by permit and licence steps within a defined window, and renewed annually with the request submitted at least thirty days before expiry. That permit is issued to the institute, not to its teachers, and it does not make an individual tutor approved by anybody.

The practical consequence for a parent comparing providers is a question rather than a conclusion. Ask an individual whether they hold a current MoHRE permit. Ask a centre which KHDA permit the institute holds. And treat the phrase describing a tutor as regulator-approved as a signal to look more closely, because that credential is not issued in that form. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, Ministry of Education, IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation and claims none; we teach online, one-to-one, and the only verification we can offer is about the tutor's experience with your child's code and tier.

IGCSE or MYP at 16, for the schools in this cluster

Several schools serving Dubai Harbour run the IB Middle Years Programme to Year 9 and then switch to IGCSE, while others continue the programme to Year 11. Families here therefore compare the two routes more actively than most, often across the same tower. The comparison is usually framed as rigour, which is the least useful axis. The real difference is what each route assesses and therefore what it builds.

IGCSE assesses through tiered external written papers in named subjects with published syllabus codes. It builds procedural speed, mark-scheme literacy and examination stamina, and it produces grades that travel legibly between school systems and countries, which matters for a family who may relocate. MYP assesses through four criteria per subject marked by the school, with extended tasks and a Personal Project. It builds investigation, extended writing and reflection, which are exactly the skills the Diploma core later demands.

Neither route disadvantages a student and each leaves a predictable gap. An IGCSE student entering the Diploma usually needs help with the core's writing and reflection demands. An MYP student entering the Diploma usually needs timed procedural work. Where the choice is genuinely open, the questions are about the child: do they produce better work across three weeks or in ninety minutes, and does the family need an externally marked, portable result at 16? For Ministry equivalency purposes, note that it is the external certificate that is counted.

One thing the comparison does not decide is the tutoring. Whichever route a school takes, the support needed is diagnosed from the student's own marked work rather than from the programme they are on, and the first session should produce the same kind of document either way.

What to ask before you pay anybody

  • Which code and tier, and have you taught that combination?
  • Who is the named tutor and what is their experience at that tier?
  • What happens if they are unavailable in week eight?
  • Will I get a written record of what was covered and diagnosed?

Five questions, in this order, and the specificity of the answers tells you more than any amount of marketing. First: which syllabus code and tier will you teach, and have you taught that combination before? A provider who cannot answer this has not asked you for the information and is not working from the examination your child sits. Second: who is the named tutor and what is their experience at that tier, as opposed to in the subject generally?

Third: what happens if that tutor becomes unavailable in week eight? This is the question the freelance and marketplace models answer worst and the one that matters most in a Year 11 spring, where a twenty-session block has no spare weeks. Fourth: will there be a written record of what has been covered and what was diagnosed, available to me? Fifth, for an individual: do you hold a current MoHRE private tuition permit?

Then one more that applies to everybody, including us. What will you not be able to cover in the weeks available? A provider who answers that honestly is doing the arithmetic. A provider who implies that everything can be covered has either not looked at the calendar or is selling hours. We put our own coverage limits in writing because the alternative is a family discovering them in week eight, by which point the weeks are gone and so is the opportunity to have chosen differently.

Write the five answers down and compare them across providers rather than relying on an impression formed during a phone call. Marketing is designed to be memorable and specifics are not, which is why the provider who gave the vaguest answers is often the one a family remembers most warmly.

Booking from a Dubai Harbour address

  • Send board, code, tier, series, mock script and genuinely free hours
  • One tutor per subject, matched to the syllabus rather than the subject name
  • Free trial producing a written breakdown and an honest session estimate
  • Coverage gaps stated up front rather than discovered in week eight

Send the board, syllabus code and tier for each subject, the marked mock script if the school will release it, the series your child is entered for, and the hours that genuinely exist after a bus that leaves before 07:00 and returns after 15:30. On the hours, be honest rather than optimistic: families nominate 16:30 and lose a third of the sessions, and the conclusion afterwards is that tutoring failed rather than that the slot never existed.

We match one tutor per subject to the code and tier and propose slots in Gulf Standard Time. One free trial lesson per student, no card required, producing a written breakdown of lost marks by type with an honest session estimate. If the match is wrong after the trial or in week two, we change the tutor, which is the accountability difference between a platform and a freelance arrangement and the main thing the margin pays for.

The limits, stated before you pay rather than after. Extended-tier specialists at popular spring evening hours are sometimes unavailable for a given week, and we will say so and offer a weekend slot or a defined short block instead of substituting someone who teaches the other board. We cannot promise a grade. And one hour a week can direct the student's other six hours without replacing them, which is true of every provider model on this page.

We would rather lose an enquiry at this stage than take one on a plan that cannot hold. A family who is told in week one that two subjects are realistic and three are not has a decision to make; a family told that all three are fine has a disappointment scheduled for the spring.

Where we tutor

Dubai Harbour and the communities it compares itself with

Provider accountability becomes visible in the weeks when travel goes wrong, which is a function of where you live. These are the nearby communities and what each does to a weekday appointment.

Dubai Harbour

New towers around the cruise terminal and marina berths, with no school or tuition centre inside the district and a single approach corridor. Cruise-call days change the afternoon without notice, which is where fixed in-home appointments fail first.

Emaar Beachfront

The adjoining reclaimed peninsula on the same approach road, with the same school-run pattern and the same escorted basement parking. Families in the two districts compare notes constantly and reach the same conclusions about timing.

Dubai Marina

Older and denser with tram access and the largest local pool of tutors and centres. Group classes are genuinely available here, which is the one format the Harbour cannot offer without a second journey after the school run.

JBR

Walkable and long settled, with the cluster's most mature freelance market. The freelance model is strongest here and its weakness is the same everywhere: no accountability when the tutor becomes unavailable mid-block.

Al Sufouh and Al Barsha

Where most of this cluster's Year 11 teaching happens and where most tuition centres sit. A centre class after school means a second commute, which from the Harbour costs the evening rather than an hour of it.

Palm Jumeirah

Approached from the same corridor, with one trunk road inside it. In-home tutors commonly add a travel surcharge for it, which is the clearest illustration of how the in-home rate is constructed.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Harbour

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The main secondary destination from Dubai Harbour, dominated by British provision running IGCSE at 16, with several IB continuum schools alongside. Board and tier choices differ between them, which is why a provider should be asking for the code before quoting anything.

  • Dubai College
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Dubai
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • American School of Dubai

Jumeirah Park, Al Safa and The Greens

The second commute direction from the Harbour approach, chosen on curriculum fit. Some of these schools enter different subjects with different boards, so one student can sit Cambridge sciences and Edexcel mathematics in the same series.

  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Safa British School
  • Regent International School
  • JESS Jumeirah
  • Horizon English School

Schools are named only to describe the entry and teaching context around your child. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the five provider questions first

Which code and tier; who is the named tutor and their experience at that tier; what happens if they stop in week eight; whether you get a written record; and, for an individual, whether they hold a current MoHRE permit. Ask us the same five and compare the specificity of the answers.

  2. 02

Check the subject basket against equivalency

On the British track, Ministry equivalency counts five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education. Worth confirming in Year 10 while subject choices are still open, and verifying on the Ministry's own channel rather than here.

  3. 03

Send the code, tier and mock script

The code decides which tutor and which question style; the script decides how many sessions and what kind of work. With both, the trial lesson produces a plan. With neither, it produces a conversation that reaches the same place a fortnight later and a fee further on.

  4. 04

Choose the format by school year

A group is good value for Year 9 and Year 10 content coverage and poor value for Year 11 diagnosis, because the losses are individual. We will say that even when it points away from the sale, because a family who buys the wrong format concludes that tutoring does not work.

  5. 05

Fix an hour that genuinely exists

17:30 from this district on a weekday, with weekend mornings for longer work. Mark the school's trips, breaks and mock window before committing, and agree the Ramadan pattern in advance. A plan built on an hour that does not exist collapses in week three.

Every AED figure is attributed to the provider or market source that published it, read in October 2026. Three of seven researched competitor pages publish no price at all, and two quote in a currency Dubai families do not transact in.

The licensing distinction made properly

An individual tutor holds a MoHRE permit; a centre with premises holds a KHDA Educational Services Permit. Neither makes a tutor regulator-approved, and IB Gram claims no accreditation from any authority or examination board.

Format advice that sometimes costs us the sale

A group class is better value than we are for Year 9 content coverage. We say so, because a family who buys one-to-one when a group would have done concludes the money was wasted and does not come back when it is needed.

Accountability when a match fails

If the tutor is wrong after the trial or in week two, we change them. That is the difference a platform margin buys over a freelance arrangement, and it matters most in a Year 11 spring with no spare weeks in it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Harbour: your questions answered

Should we use an agency, a freelancer or an online platform for IGCSE in Dubai Harbour?+

It depends on which failure you can least afford. A freelancer may be the best teacher available and is a single point of failure, with nobody accountable if they become unavailable in week eight. A marketplace is cheaper and carries neither accountability nor independent verification. An agency or platform carries a margin and should carry a replacement policy and a written record. In a Year 11 spring with twenty-odd appointments that all have to happen, that accountability is usually worth more than the rate difference.

How many IGCSE subjects does my child need for Ministry equivalency?+

Five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five, so a basket relying on them does not reach the count. One ranking competitor publishes six subjects, which is wrong. Verify the current rule on the Ministry's own channel before acting on it.

Is a group class at a tuition centre good value?+

For Year 9 and much of Year 10, yes. The need at that stage is content exposure and consolidation, the shared pace is not a disadvantage, and the cost per hour is lower. In Year 11 it stops being good value, because the marks your child is losing are individual: unshown method, a misread command term, a unit conversion. A group format cannot see those. For a family in this district there is also a second journey after the school run, which is the real price.

What does the in-home premium actually pay for?+

Travel, not qualification. Market sources quote in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. The same teacher online costs less because the hour is no longer costing them two. In this district the premium also carries the risk of a single approach corridor and a cruise terminal, which is why the sessions that go missing tend to go missing in the weeks you can least spare.

Do independent tutors in Dubai need a licence?+

Yes. Individuals providing private tuition need the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no schedule of amounts has been published. Asking whether a tutor holds a current permit is reasonable and easy to answer. A centre with premises needs a different instrument, a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute.

What does "KHDA approved tutor" mean?+

In practice it usually means nothing verifiable. KHDA issues an Educational Services Permit to a training institute with premises, and that permit belongs to the institute rather than to any individual teacher. There is no KHDA approval issued to a private tutor in the way that phrase implies. Treat it as a prompt to ask which permit is held and by whom. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation and does not claim any.

How do I compare two quotes that are AED 150 apart?+

By asking what each rate is constructed from. Ask which syllabus code and tier the tutor has taught, who the named person is, what happens if they stop in week eight, and whether you get a written record of what was covered and diagnosed. A rate at the bottom of the published range is usually a university student, which is a reasonable purchase for Year 9 homework and thin for an Extended-tier paper. The cheaper quote is sometimes the better one, and never for the reason stated.

Our school switched from MYP to IGCSE after Year 9. What changes?+

The assessment model entirely. Criterion marking stops and tiered external written papers begin, with published syllabus codes and an externally marked result at 16. Your child moves from being assessed on investigation and reflection over weeks to being assessed on correct answers produced quickly under timing. That is a real transition and the first term is where it shows. Six to eight sessions on paper technique and mark-scheme reading in that term prevents a disappointing first set of mock results.

Which format suits a Year 11 who is strong in class and weak on paper?+

One-to-one, and quickly. That specific pattern is almost always answer construction rather than knowledge: command terms misread, method invisible, rounding instructions ignored, the final question unattempted because of timing. None of it is addressable in a group, because the diagnosis requires someone reading this student's own script closely. Four sessions on technique plus two paper audits usually move this student more than a term of content revision, and cost considerably less.

What record should a provider give us?+

A written note of what was covered, what was diagnosed and what was set between sessions, available to you rather than held internally. This is the single easiest thing to ask for and the question that separates models fastest: a platform or agency can produce it, a marketplace generally cannot, and a freelancer may or may not. It also matters later, because a new tutor handed that record starts where the last one finished rather than beginning again.

Is it better to begin with a single subject in a Year 11 spring?+

That is usually the right order, and we will suggest it. Starting three subjects at once in a Year 11 spring crowds out the independent work that makes sessions productive, and a student in this district already loses ninety minutes a day to the school run. Begin with the weakest subject or the one with the nearest fixed deadline, let the pattern become clear over three or four weeks, then add. A provider proposing three appointments in week one is selling hours.

How honest are published tutoring rates in this market?+

Patchy. Three of the seven competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, the two that do quote in US dollars rather than dirhams, and one publishes a structured-data price range that contradicts the figure on its own visible page. Against that, the published figures on this page are attributed to the source that stated them and dated to October 2026. Ask any provider what their rate is constructed from; the answer is more informative than the number.

Do you teach the Arabic our school requires alongside IGCSE?+

Yes, with one condition. Dubai private schools must deliver Arabic regardless of the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires Arab and non-Arab streams to be taught separately because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Support has to match the stream your child sits in and must work with the school's own material, since using different or additional content for these mandatory subjects without prior Ministry permission is prohibited. Note too that Arabic does not count towards the five equivalency subjects.

What will you not be able to cover before the series?+

We will tell you specifically in the trial lesson, which is the question we would ask any provider first. A mid-year start has a finite number of usable weeks once trips, breaks and the mock window are marked out, and a plan that implies everything will be covered has not done that arithmetic. Naming the items to abandon is what lets the remaining weeks go to the highest-value work, and it is a more useful answer than an encouraging one.

Compare the models, then send the code

Choosing IGCSE support in Dubai Harbour is a decision about provider model as much as about a teacher. Ask any provider which code and tier they will teach, who the named tutor is, what happens if they stop in week eight, and what record you will receive. Then send us the board, syllabus code and tier for each subject, the marked mock script if your school will release it, and the hours that genuinely exist after the run back to the district. One free trial lesson per student, no card required, ending in a written breakdown and an honest session estimate.
