IB Tutor near me in Dubai Harbour

An IB tutor near me search from Dubai Harbour sorts people by distance. The Diploma sorts work by deadline, and the two have almost nothing to do with each other. This page is organised around the calendar: the core milestones your school sets, the word ceilings on each component, what Ramadan does to a revision block, and what each remaining term can realistically fix. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Work sequenced from your school's own deadline list

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Harbour

Distance is not the scarce thing; usable weeks are

A proximity search answers a question nobody in the Diploma actually has. The binding constraint on a DP student is not how far a tutor lives but how many usable weeks remain before the next fixed date, and which of those weeks the school has already claimed. Internal assessment deadlines, staged Extended Essay submissions, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay, CAS checkpoints and the mock window all sit ahead of the external papers and all are set locally. A family who starts planning from the examination month has started from the one date nobody can influence.

Those local dates differ between schools in this cluster, which is why no generic Diploma timetable is useful. Two students in neighbouring Dubai Harbour towers can have internal assessment deadlines a month apart and Extended Essay drafts due in different terms. The first request to make of a school is therefore not advice but a list: every internal deadline for the year, in writing, plus the mock window and the reporting dates. With that list a plan can be sequenced. Without it, every session is scheduled against an impression.

This page publishes no IB examination or results date. None could be confirmed from the IB directly for this project, and a date a parent plans around is the worst possible thing to get wrong. UAE schools sit the May session; your Diploma coordinator holds the real calendar and should be the only source you act on. What can be stated reliably is the sequence, the relative timing, and the published ceilings on each component, and those are what the tables below set out.

Dubai Harbour adds its own arithmetic. The district is new, built around a cruise terminal and marina berths, approached through a single corridor off King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street that it shares with Emaar Beachfront and the Palm Jumeirah approach. There is no school and no tuition centre inside it. Children travel to Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or Jumeirah, leaving before 07:00 and returning after 15:30, so a weekday session realistically starts at 17:00 or later. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video and does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service.

What follows sets out the two-year core calendar with who owns each milestone, the word and page ceilings across components, the honest arithmetic of a term once Ramadan and school trips are counted, what the mock script tells you that a grade cannot, and how a plan should name the work it will not do. Confirm every date and weighting with your school before building on it, because the IB revises subject guides and your school sets its own internal calendar.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The calendar looks different at each IB stage, and a tutor working to the wrong one prepares a student for deadlines they do not have. These are the stages families in this district contact us from.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No external assessment and no external deadlines. The calendar that matters is the school's own unit cycle and the Year 6 Exhibition. Support here is about securing reading fluency, number sense and the habit of explaining a method aloud, all of which later stages keep assessing.

Primary children from this district leave before 07:00 and return after 15:30. A short session at 17:00 fits that day; an earlier one competes with a child who has not eaten since a packed lunch.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, with extended tasks arriving from MYP 4 and the Personal Project in the final year. The calendar is a sequence of task deadlines rather than examinations, which rewards process management over revision.

Some schools serving this district run the MYP to Year 9 and then switch to IGCSE, which replaces criterion deadlines with an external series. Establish the route before planning around either.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with published component weightings, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, with up to three bonus points from the TOK and EE grades. The internal assessments and core components carry hard internal deadlines spread across both years.

UAE candidates sit the May session. Internal deadlines are set by the school and differ between schools in this cluster, so a plan must be built on your own school's list rather than a general pattern.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two DP courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills core. The DP courses are marked to full Diploma standards, and the reflective project adds a further fixed deadline to an already crowded calendar.

CP provision across Dubai is narrow, so families here pursuing it choose between a small number of schools rather than between neighbourhoods.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects this district asks for most, described by the component that carries a deadline rather than by their content, because that is what determines when work has to happen.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Two papers at Standard Level and three at Higher, plus the exploration. The exploration has an internal deadline usually falling in DP1 or early DP2, and its question has to be settled eight to ten weeks before any draft is due.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Technology assumed throughout, with the same exploration component and the same internal deadline. Explorations here are usually data-led, which adds a collection step that has to be planned rather than improvised.

Physics

HL and SL

A data-based and multiple-choice paper, an extended-response paper and a scientific investigation. The investigation's internal deadline is the earliest hard date in the subject and the one most often met with a design chosen too late.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity across two years, with organic mechanisms arriving in the second. The scientific investigation carries roughly a fifth of the grade and its deadline typically falls while the heaviest content is being taught.

Biology

HL and SL

Wide content and a scientific investigation on the same criteria as the other sciences. Command-term discipline is the largest recoverable loss, and it is best repaired in the first term rather than after a mock has set the student's expectations.

Economics

HL and SL

Three commentaries on published news articles, each within a tight word limit, plus diagram-led extended response. The commentaries have staged internal deadlines and are frequently left until all three are due at once.

Business Management

HL and SL

A case-study examination plus a research project at Higher Level built on one real organisation. Access to that organisation has to be secured before the question is fixed, which makes it a scheduling problem as much as an analytical one.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Guided analysis, a comparative essay, the Individual Oral and an additional essay at Higher Level. The Individual Oral has a school-set date and is the most coachable component in the Diploma because the student chooses the material.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition of three objects against a prescribed prompt and an essay on a prescribed title with a 1,600-word ceiling. Both have school-set submission dates and both feed the bonus points alongside the Extended Essay.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research piece with staged internal deadlines and criteria weighted towards critical thinking. Scope is decided in the first two sessions of the project, and after the first draft it cannot be changed.

CAS

Core

Not graded but required for the Diploma, with reflection checkpoints and a project the school monitors. Students who leave CAS evidence until the final term create a deadline collision with the components that are graded.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each of these formats is defined by the deadline it serves. Choosing by preference rather than by deadline is the commonest reason Diploma tutoring produces activity instead of movement.

Deadline-anchored coursework block

Sessions counted backwards from one named internal deadline: an internal assessment, an Extended Essay stage, a TOK submission. Scope is settled first, the criteria are mapped by letter, and the student's own drafts are reviewed. Finite by design, with a stated end point rather than a rolling arrangement.

  • Scheduled from the school's date, not from a start date
  • Scope settled before any drafting
  • Criteria named by letter with their allocations
  • Feedback on the student's own text only

Weekly subject slot across a term

One fixed hour a week with a specialist in that subject at that level, reviewed at each reporting cycle. Suitable where there is a term or more of runway, so diagnosis, repair and consolidation can happen in sequence rather than being compressed into the same fortnight.

  • Same tutor, so the diagnosis compounds week to week
  • Reviewed against the school's reporting dates
  • Topic order set by the diagnosis
  • Shared working page retained for revision

Pre-mock or pre-paper intensive

Two sessions a week across six to ten weeks before a mock window or the final papers. Past-paper led from session one, with the student marking their own work strictly against the official scheme and the tutor auditing the marking. Ends with the window.

  • Sequenced backwards from the window
  • Components sat under real timing
  • Student marks first; the tutor audits
  • Measured by prediction accuracy, not by hours attended

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Harbour

01

The two-year core calendar, and who owns each date

The Diploma core is where the calendar bites hardest, because the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS all run alongside six subjects and none of them has an external date a family can look up. Every milestone is set by your school: the EE supervisor meetings and staged drafts, the TOK exhibition and essay submissions, the CAS reflection checkpoints and project review. Those dates are the spine of both years and they are frequently communicated once, in an assembly, and never written down anywhere a parent sees.

Ownership matters because it tells you who to ask. The EE coordinator owns the essay stages. The TOK teacher owns the exhibition and essay dates. Subject teachers own their own internal assessment deadlines. The CAS coordinator owns the reflection checkpoints. The year leader usually owns the mock window and the reporting dates. Five requests rather than one, and all five answerable in a sentence if asked directly and in writing.

With the full list in front of you, sequencing becomes a matter of arithmetic rather than judgement. Fixed deadlines outrank flexible revision. A deadline eight weeks away outranks one in six months. Two deadlines landing in the same fortnight means one of them has to be brought forward deliberately, which is a decision to take in week one rather than a crisis to have in week nine. This is the single most useful thing a family can do without buying anything, and the reason we ask for the list before proposing a tutor.

02

Word and page ceilings as design constraints

Every written Diploma component has a published ceiling and students treat them as targets to approach from below. That is the wrong model. In most cases material beyond the ceiling is simply not read, so the time spent producing it returns nothing, and in some cases the overrun itself is penalised. The useful way to think about a limit is as a design constraint that decides the scope of the question before any writing happens.

The Extended Essay allows 4,000 words. That is room for one narrow question investigated with a defensible method, and not room for a survey of a field. The Theory of Knowledge essay allows 1,600 words, which is room for one developed line of argument examined from two perspectives, and not room to address a prescribed title comprehensively. A mathematics exploration has a recommended page range rather than a word count. A science investigation has a ceiling set in the subject guide. Economics commentaries have tight individual limits.

This matters at the planning stage and almost nowhere else. A student who chooses a question that cannot be answered within the ceiling will produce either an overrun or a superficial treatment, and neither is recoverable later; the only fix is a narrower question, settled early. That is the single most valuable thing a tutor does on the Extended Essay, and it happens in the first two sessions or not at all. Confirm the current ceilings against your child's own subject guide, because the IB revises them.

03

How many weeks a term actually has

A plan written on the calendar's face is a plan written on a number that does not exist. Mid-term breaks, Model United Nations trips, sports fixtures, university open days, the school's own mock window and the Ramadan adjustment all take weeks out of a term, and they take them out of the middle rather than the ends. A family who believes they have twenty sessions before a deadline and actually has fourteen will plan for twenty, discover fourteen in week nine, and conclude that the tutoring underdelivered.

During Ramadan school hours shorten and the family day reorganises around iftar, which for a DP2 student can overlap the heaviest revision block of the two years. The pattern should be decided before it starts rather than improvised. A post-iftar evening session suits many students better than a 17:00 slot, and weekend mornings with reduced midweek frequency work for others. What fails is cancelling for the month and resuming in the final fortnight, because the content planned for those weeks has nowhere else to go.

The arithmetic changes the plan in a good way. Fourteen known sessions produce a different and better plan than twenty assumed ones: fewer topics covered properly, the lowest-value items dropped deliberately rather than abandoned by accident, and the coursework deadline protected ahead of the flexible revision. That is the first conversation to have, and it needs the school calendar in writing rather than a recollection of what was announced in September.

What a mock script tells you that a grade cannot

  • Ask the school to release the marked script, not just the grade
  • Sort losses into content, command term, method, arithmetic and timing
  • Unattempted final questions are invisible in a percentage
  • A technique deficit and a content gap need opposite plans

The mock window produces the single most useful document of the Diploma, and most families receive only a summary of it. A grade of 4 in a subject is a sum, and the same 4 can be produced by three different students needing three different things: one with two unsecured topics and good technique, one who understands the content and writes poor extended responses, and one whose internal assessment scored in the bottom band and dragged the papers down.

Ask the school to release the marked script. Many will, on request, because the whole point of a mock is diagnostic. With the script, lost marks sort into categories within minutes: content not known, command term misread, method not shown, arithmetic, and questions unattempted because of timing. The last of those is invisible in a percentage and is often the largest single item, and it is repaired with a pacing rule rather than with any teaching at all.

The sorting determines everything after it. A student losing twenty-six marks to technique and four to unknown content should spend a fortnight on technique and leave the content alone, which is the opposite of what usually gets bought. A student with a genuine content gap needs sessions on that content and will waste a fortnight on technique drills. Both plans look identical from the grade and completely different from the script, which is why our trial lesson opens with the script when the school releases it.

05

Sequencing a term you cannot finish

  • Rank the work by marks per hour, then draw a line out loud
  • Fixed coursework deadlines outrank flexible revision
  • Technique habits pay across every paper and repair in weeks
  • Write down what is not being done so the student stops carrying it

Most Diploma tutoring starts mid-year, which means every plan is a plan about what will not be done. Families find this uncomfortable and providers avoid saying it, with the result that a term's sessions spread thinly across everything and move nothing. The honest alternative is to rank the available work by marks per hour of effort and then draw a line, out loud, in the first session.

The ranking is usually stable. Fixed coursework deadlines come first, because they are dated and carry roughly a fifth of a subject grade. Technique habits come next, because they pay across every question in every paper and repair in weeks. One or two high-cost content gaps follow. Whole-paper timing work comes after that, once there is something worth timing. Low-cost content gaps and anything in a subject already secure come last, and in a short term they come not at all.

Writing the line down changes the term. The student knows what they are not doing and stops feeling behind on it. The tutor stops being pulled towards whatever was most recently difficult. And the review at the fortnight has a clear question: did the items above the line move? If they did not, the plan changes rather than extending, which is a conversation worth having in week three rather than week nine. We would rather lose a subject from a plan in week one than lose a term to covering everything lightly.

06

Academic honesty, and the deadline pressure that tests it

  • Deadline pressure is when the line gets tested, so agree it in advance
  • A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own draft
  • A tutor does not write, complete, edit to submission or supply data
  • Board and IB material is referenced and linked, never redistributed

The weeks before a coursework deadline are when families are most tempted to cross a line they would never approach calmly, and this market is built to accommodate that. One page researched for this project sells completed internal assessments at a published price. A student who submits bought work risks the loss of the entire Diploma and the school is obliged to report it. The pressure is real and the consequence falls entirely on the student.

The permitted help is substantial and worth stating positively, because it covers nearly everything that genuinely moves a grade. A tutor may teach the content a piece depends on, explain what each lettered criterion requires and what separates the bands, help narrow a research question until it fits the ceiling, review a method and ask whether the data supports the conclusion, point out that a table has no uncertainties, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written.

What a tutor may not do is write, rewrite or complete any part of the piece, supply paragraphs for insertion, select or process the data, or produce a worked version to adapt. Nor may any tutor supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; those are referenced and linked to their official source. Our tutors work the first list, decline the second explicitly, and will say so to a student who asks rather than quietly obliging.

07

Getting the hour right in this district

  • 17:00 at the earliest on a weekday; 17:30 if the bus is unreliable
  • Coursework needs ninety minutes, which means a weekend morning
  • One weekday subject slot plus one weekend coursework slot holds best
  • A movable slot absorbs a cruise-call afternoon; a fixed arrival does not

Proximity decides one thing and it is worth taking seriously. Children in Dubai Harbour leave before 07:00 for schools in Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or Jumeirah and return after 15:30, and the hour after that belongs to food and decompression rather than to calculus or an essay plan. A weekday session therefore starts at 17:00 at the earliest, and 17:30 where the school run is unreliable. Families consistently nominate 16:30 and then lose a third of the sessions, after which the conclusion drawn is that tutoring did not work.

Coursework sessions need different scheduling again. An internal assessment or Extended Essay session needs ninety uninterrupted minutes, which does not exist on a weekday evening in this district. Weekend mornings are the most productive slots we schedule here and they are where criterion-mapped work belongs. Splitting the week into one weekday subject slot and one weekend coursework slot is the arrangement that holds across a term for most Diploma students here.

The cruise terminal is the reason flexibility is worth more than precision. On call days the afternoon changes without much warning, and an arrangement that can shift by thirty minutes absorbs that while a fixed arrival time does not. This is the practical argument for the format rather than a claim about technology: a video slot moves, a journey across a single approach corridor either happens on time or eats the paid hour. IB Gram provides no home visits anywhere in the UAE, so this is the comparison that applies here.

08

Booking a specialist from Dubai Harbour

  • Send subjects and levels, school, the deadline list, marked work and free hours
  • Free trial producing a written diagnosis and a sequenced plan
  • Tutor changed in week two rather than defended in week nine
  • The plan names what it will not cover in the weeks available

Send five things: the subjects and levels, the school, the full internal deadline list for the remainder of the year, the most recent marked work, and the hours that genuinely exist after the school run. The deadline list is the item most often omitted and the one that most changes our answer, because a plan that ignores a fixed date eight weeks out is not a plan but a wish.

We match one specialist per subject and level and propose slots in Gulf Standard Time, with coursework work placed at weekends. One free trial lesson per student, no card required, used to produce a written diagnosis and a sequenced plan rather than a sales conversation. If the match is wrong after the trial or in week two, we change the tutor; persisting with a poor match in a Diploma year is the most expensive decision available, because DP2 has no spare terms.

The limits, stated plainly. Higher Level sciences and Maths Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level are the scarcest matches we make at popular spring evening hours, and when nobody suitable is free we say so and offer a weekend slot or a defined short block rather than substituting a near match. We cannot promise a grade and nobody who has read a mark scheme would. And the plan will name what it is not doing, because a term has a finite number of usable weeks and pretending otherwise wastes them.

Where we tutor

Dubai Harbour and the districts that share its approach road

The hour a session can run is the one thing proximity does decide. These are the neighbouring communities and what each does to a weekday evening.

Dubai Harbour

Residential towers around the cruise terminal and marina berths, with no school or tuition centre inside the district. Cruise-call days alter afternoon traffic without warning, which is why a movable slot is worth more here than a fixed one.

Emaar Beachfront

The adjoining reclaimed peninsula on the same approach corridor, with an identical school-run pattern. Families in the two districts face the same constraints and usually settle on the same session times.

Dubai Marina

Older, denser and tram-served, with the largest local pool of travelling tutors. The pool thins for Higher Level subjects and the Marina's own congestion consumes the hour a Diploma session needs.

JBR

Walkable and long settled, with the cluster's most established independent market. Families here describe the same gap: people who will re-explain a topic, few who will work a component against a deadline.

Al Sufouh

Where much of this cluster's Diploma teaching happens. Internal assessment deadlines along this corridor tend to fall within a few weeks of each other, which concentrates demand for coursework coaching into short periods.

Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The second schooling direction, with several IB continuum schools. Afternoon returns from here are less predictable than morning departures, which surprises families in their first term in the district.

Palm Jumeirah

Reached from the same approach, with one trunk road inside it and split access for villas and towers. In-home tutors commonly add a travel surcharge, which illustrates how an in-home rate is built.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Harbour

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

The main Diploma destination from Dubai Harbour, combining full IB continuum schools with British provision. Internal deadline calendars differ between them, which is the reason this page keeps insisting on your own school's list rather than offering a timetable.

  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • American School of Dubai
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Jumeirah, Al Safa and The Meadows

The second commute direction from the Harbour approach. Several of these schools run the IB continuum from primary, which matters in a district with as many mid-programme arrivals as this one has.

  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • JESS Jumeirah
  • Horizon English School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

Schools are named only to describe the assessment calendar around your child. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Collect the deadline list from five people

Subject teachers for internal assessments, the EE coordinator for essay stages, the TOK teacher for the exhibition and essay, the CAS coordinator for reflection checkpoints, and the year leader for mocks and reporting. Five short requests, all answerable in a sentence, and together they are the spine of any plan.

  2. 02

Mark out the weeks that do not exist

Breaks, trips, fixtures, open days, the mock window and the Ramadan adjustment. A ten-week term is commonly eight usable weeks, and knowing which eight changes the plan for the better: fewer items, covered properly, with the lowest-value work dropped deliberately.

  3. 03

Ask for the marked mock script

Not the grade. The script sorts lost marks into content, command terms, method, arithmetic and unattempted questions, and those need opposite plans. Most schools release scripts on request because diagnosis is what a mock is for, and the request costs nothing.

  4. 04

Free trial, then a line drawn

One trial lesson per student, no card required, ending in a written diagnosis, a sequenced plan and an explicit statement of what will not be covered. You keep that document whether or not you continue, and it is useful to any tutor you engage instead.

  5. 05

Review at the fortnight against the line

The question is whether the items above the line moved, not whether sessions were attended. If they did not, the diagnosis or the format was wrong and the plan changes. Extending a plan that is not working is how eight usable weeks become four.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Sequenced from your school's dates

Every binding Diploma date except the papers is set locally and differs between schools in this cluster. We ask for the list first, because a plan built on the examination month alone is built on the only date nobody can influence.

No IB dates invented

This page carries no IB examination or results date, because none could be confirmed from the IB for this project. Your coordinator holds the calendar. A wrong date that a parent acts on is worse than an absent one.

Ceilings treated as design constraints

4,000 words on the Extended Essay and 1,600 on the TOK essay decide the scope of the question, not the length of the writing. That decision happens in the first two sessions of a project or it does not happen at all.

The honest week count

We do the arithmetic on breaks, trips, mocks and Ramadan in the first session and plan on the weeks that remain. Fourteen known sessions produce a better plan than twenty assumed ones, and the difference shows in the spring.

Diagnosis from the script, not the grade

Lost marks sorted into content, command terms, method, arithmetic and timing. A technique deficit and a content gap produce the same grade and need opposite plans, and only the script distinguishes them.

A plan that says what it will not do

Ranking the work by marks per hour and drawing a line is the difference between a term that moves two grades and a term that touches six subjects lightly. We write the line down so the student stops carrying what was dropped.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Harbour: your questions answered

Does an IB tutor for Dubai Harbour need to be local?+

Not for the lesson, and ours are not. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. What proximity genuinely affects is the hour a session can run, because children here leave before 07:00 and return after 15:30. What it does not affect is who can diagnose a Paper 2 script in your child's subject at their level, and for Higher Level subjects that pool is small before availability is even considered.

Which deadlines should I collect, and from whom?+

Five requests. Subject teachers for each internal assessment deadline, the Extended Essay coordinator for the staged submissions, the Theory of Knowledge teacher for the exhibition and essay dates, the CAS coordinator for reflection checkpoints, and the year leader for the mock window and reporting dates. Ask in writing and keep the list somewhere the family can see it. Those dates are the spine of both Diploma years and they differ between schools in this cluster.

How long can the Extended Essay be, and when is scope decided?+

The ceiling is 4,000 words and material beyond it is generally not read, so scope has to be settled at the research-question stage rather than during drafting. A question that cannot be answered within the ceiling produces either an overrun or a superficial treatment, and neither is recoverable once a draft exists. Narrowing the question until it is answerable with a defensible method is the most valuable thing a tutor does on an Extended Essay, and it happens in the first two sessions.

How many sessions will a term actually contain?+

Fewer than the calendar suggests. Once mid-term breaks, trips, fixtures, open days, the mock window and the Ramadan adjustment are marked out, a ten-week term is commonly eight usable weeks. We do that arithmetic in the first session because a plan built on twenty assumed sessions and delivered in fourteen reads as underperformance, while a plan built on fourteen named sessions produces a sharper set of priorities and a better result.

What should we do about sessions during Ramadan?+

Decide the pattern before it begins. School hours shorten and the family day reorganises around iftar, so a post-iftar evening session often works better than a 17:00 slot, and weekend mornings with reduced midweek frequency suit other families. What does not work is suspending for the month and resuming in the final fortnight, because the content planned for those weeks then has nowhere to go except the week before a deadline, which is where nothing new can be learned.

Why do you want the mock script rather than the grade?+

Because a grade is a sum and the script is the information. Three students can hold the same 4 for opposite reasons: unsecured topics with good technique, good content with poor extended responses, or a weak internal assessment dragging reasonable papers down. The script sorts lost marks into content, command terms, method, arithmetic and unattempted questions within minutes, and those categories need different tutors, different work and different session counts.

How do we decide what to drop from a plan?+

Rank the available work by marks per hour of effort and draw the line out loud in session one. Fixed coursework deadlines come first because they are dated and heavily weighted. Technique habits come next because they pay across every paper and repair in weeks. One or two high-cost content gaps follow, then whole-paper timing work. Low-cost gaps and subjects already secure come last, and in a short term they come not at all.

Can a tutor help with TOK and the Extended Essay at once?+

They can be coached by the same person if that person works on argument rather than on subject content, because both reward a claim tested against evidence rather than described. In practice the two have separate school deadlines and are better given separate sessions, with the nearer deadline taking the slot. What a tutor may not do in either case is write or structure the piece as prose for submission; feedback is on the student's own draft.

Our child is in DP1. Is it too early to start?+

DP1 is the cheapest point in the two years and the least used. Command-term discipline, the habit of showing method, and the design stage of the first internal assessment are all addressable in the autumn of DP1 in a handful of sessions, and all three become expensive repairs in DP2 once a year of habit has formed. Families wait because the early reports look acceptable, which they usually do right up until the first mock.

What time should a Harbour family schedule a Diploma session?+

17:00 at the earliest on a weekday and 17:30 if the school run from Al Barsha or Al Sufouh is unreliable, with coursework work placed on a weekend morning where ninety uninterrupted minutes exist. Be honest about the hour rather than optimistic: nominating 16:30 and losing a third of the sessions is the most common way a reasonable plan fails, and the failure then gets attributed to the tutoring rather than to the timetable.

Will you work to our school's internal deadlines or your own schedule?+

Your school's, because they are the only fixed dates in the year apart from the papers. Send the list at the start and the plan is sequenced against it, with coursework blocks counted backwards from each submission and revision filling the flexible weeks between. A provider who proposes a generic programme without asking for those dates is proposing a programme that will collide with at least one of them, usually in the fortnight when there is no room to move.

If nobody can teach Chemistry HL at 17:30, what are our options?+

We say so and set out the options rather than filling the slot. Higher Level sciences and Maths Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level are the scarcest matches at popular spring evening hours, and the realistic alternatives are a weekend morning with the right specialist, a different subject started first while the scarce one waits, or a defined short block with someone whose weekly availability is limited. Discovering a coverage limit in week one costs nothing; discovering it in week eight costs a term.

Will you send us an archive of IB past papers to work from?+

No. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyrighted, and redistributing unreleased material creates an exposure for the student rather than for whoever hosts it. We reference and explain them in sessions and link the official source. Most schools release recent material on request, and the subject teacher is the right person to ask, since they also know which series are appropriate.

How quickly can sessions start from this district?+

For a widely taught Standard Level subject, usually within a few days, because the only variable is matching an hour. For a Higher Level specialist at a popular evening time it takes longer, and occasionally a particular subject and hour has nobody free that week. We would rather give you a date we can hold than a promise we cannot. The trial lesson is the first fixed point and the weekly slot is agreed immediately after it.

Send the deadline list, not the postcode

A proximity search answers a question about geography. The Diploma asks a question about weeks. Send the subjects and levels, the school, the full internal deadline list for the rest of the year, the most recent marked work, and the hours that genuinely exist after the run back to Dubai Harbour. We will match a specialist per subject, place coursework at weekends, and produce a plan sequenced against your school's own dates, including what it will not cover. One free trial lesson per student, no card required.
