IB Home Tutor in Al Qusais

Most parents searching for an IB home tutor in Al Qusais are not asking about furniture. They are asking whether anybody within reach of Al Qusais genuinely knows Chemistry HL, Maths AA Paper 3 or the Economics internal assessment. That is the question this page answers, honestly. IB Gram matches your child to a subject specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the search radius stops being a limit on who can teach.

IB & IGCSE in Al Qusais

The real question behind "IB home tutor in Al Qusais"

Al Qusais sits along the Dubai-Sharjah corridor, between Al Twar and Al Nahda, with the Red Line running through it at Stadium, Al Qusais and Dubai Airport Free Zone. Families here are close to a dense cluster of schools and a short drive from Al Garhoud and Oud Metha. What they are not close to is a deep bench of IB Diploma subject specialists. An IB home tutor in Al Qusais, interpreted literally, means somebody who can drive to your building and who also happens to teach your child's exact subject at your child's exact level. Those two conditions rarely meet in the same person.

Consider what the Diploma actually demands. A DP2 student might need Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, Chemistry HL, English A Language and Literature SL, Economics SL, Arabic B SL and Visual Arts SL. Six subjects, each with its own internal assessment, its own command terms and its own paper structure. A general maths tutor who covers Years 7 to 11 is not the same person as someone who has marked Paper 3 responses on a Higher Level option. The gap between those two is usually two grades.

So the honest answer is this. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Dubai; home visits are something we run only in India. For UAE families, every lesson is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school day. That is not a compromise forced on us by logistics. It is what lets an Al Qusais family work with a Chemistry HL specialist who understands the 2023 syllabus structure, rather than with whoever is willing to sit in Ittihad Road traffic for an hour each way.

This page does four things. It sets out what the Dubai market charges for IB support and names the sources for every figure. It compares an in-home hour against an online hour on cost, travel, tutor pool and rescheduling. It explains how to check whether a tutor advertising privately holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. And it states plainly what a tutor may and may not do with an internal assessment, because that boundary is where several providers in this market quietly cross a line.

Dubai's private-school sector carried 387,441 pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7% of enrolment and the UK curriculum 37%, according to the Dubai Media Office. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private-school fees would not rise for 2026-27. Both facts matter to a tutoring decision: the IB cohort is a minority of a very large market, which is exactly why subject-level specialists are thin on the ground in any one neighbourhood, and a frozen fee bill means the tutoring line in a family budget is the one that can still move.

At a glance

  • Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, never at a UAE address
  • Matching is by syllabus and assessment component, not by driving distance
  • Every AED figure on this page is a market rate with its source named
  • Dubai private schools are regulated by KHDA on a six-band inspection scale
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • A tutor reviews and teaches; the student's own work stays the student's own
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

IB Gram covers the three school-age IB programmes that Dubai schools near Al Qusais run. The teaching problem is different in each, and so is the kind of tutor who helps.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP has no external examinations and no syllabus to drill. Learning is organised around transdisciplinary units of inquiry, with the exhibition in the final year acting as the first piece of sustained independent work a child produces. Tutoring at this stage is about number fluency, reading stamina and the habit of asking a question that can actually be investigated.

Al Qusais and Al Twar families often move a child into a PYP school from a CBSE or Ministry-curriculum primary, where the shift from textbook exercises to inquiry units unsettles strong pupils as much as weak ones. A term of structured reading and arithmetic work usually settles it faster than a year of waiting.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7 to 11

Middle Years Programme

MYP runs five years across eight subject groups and is assessed against criteria A to D rather than a mark scheme. Grades land on a 1 to 8 scale. The Personal Project in MYP 5 is assessed on its process as much as its product, and MYP 5 students at some Dubai schools sit eAssessment for an externally validated certificate.

Several schools serving Al Qusais run MYP to Year 9 and then switch to IGCSE, which means a child can meet criterion-referenced assessment and then a linear examined course within eighteen months. Knowing which route your school takes changes what a tutor should be drilling in Year 9.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12 to 13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS. Each subject carries an internal assessment worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of the grade, marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB. The core adds up to three bonus points on a 45-point total.

Dubai IB schools sit the May session, which puts internal assessment deadlines through the autumn and winter of DP2 and makes October to February the pressure window for an Al Qusais family. Starting support in March of DP2 leaves almost no coursework left to influence.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Dubai families ask for most often. Each entry says what the assessment actually tests and where marks tend to go, because that is what a tutor should be working on.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency carries the whole course. At Higher Level, Paper 3 is an extended problem-solving investigation where students lose marks for abandoning an unfamiliar context rather than for weak technique. Proof by induction, complex numbers and the Maclaurin series are the usual pressure points.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-heavy and modelling-led. Marks go missing in interpretation rather than computation: a correct regression with no statement of what the gradient means in context earns part credit. Graph theory and the chi-squared test are the topics most often under-taught in school.

Physics

HL and SL

The 2023 syllabus groups content into themes A to E across both levels, with additional Higher Level material inside each theme. Students lose marks on vector reasoning in fields and on uncertainty propagation in the internal assessment. Paper 2 extended response needs structured reasoning, not a formula.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Split into Structure and Reactivity, with the HL extensions sitting inside each. Organic mechanisms and energetics are where Higher Level grades separate. The internal assessment is marked on research design and analysis, so a well-run experiment with no uncertainty treatment still caps out in the middle bands.

Biology

HL and SL

Organised around unity and diversity, form and function, interaction and continuity. The content volume is the trap: students revise descriptive recall and then meet data-analysis questions in Paper 2. Command terms matter here more than anywhere else in the group 4 subjects.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Two papers, an individual oral and, at Higher Level, an essay on a studied text. Paper 1 is unseen textual analysis, which rewards a method rather than knowledge. Most lost marks come from summarising a text instead of analysing how it produces its effect.

Economics

HL and SL

Three internal assessment commentaries drawn from published news articles, each capped at 800 words, plus papers that reward diagram accuracy and explicit evaluation. Higher Level adds quantitative questions. Students routinely lose evaluation marks by describing a policy rather than weighing it.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools such as Ansoff, SWOT and break-even analysis are easy to name and hard to apply to a case. Paper 1 uses a pre-released case study. The internal assessment differs by level, and Higher Level students need primary research handled properly rather than a questionnaire bolted on late.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Assessed across five prescribed themes with a written paper, listening and reading comprehension and an individual oral. Non-native speakers at Dubai schools often carry strong spoken Arabic and weak formal register, which the written paper punishes immediately.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every request from this part of Dubai. All three are delivered one-to-one over live video, and all three are scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one subject work

A fixed slot with the same tutor each week, working through the school's own scheme of work a little ahead of the class. This is the format that moves a predicted grade, because it compounds. Most Al Qusais families start with one subject at ninety minutes or two subjects at sixty.

  • Same tutor, same slot, agreed for a term at a time
  • Follows your child's school sequence, not a generic syllabus order
  • Written summary after each session so you can see what was covered

Exam-term intensive

Short, dense blocks in the weeks before mocks or final papers, built around past-paper technique and command terms rather than new content. Sessions are often twice weekly and sometimes daily in the final fortnight, with timed questions marked between lessons.

  • Past papers worked under timed conditions, then marked and reviewed
  • Topic-by-topic error log carried forward between sessions
  • Scheduling flexed to the school's own mock timetable

Internal assessment and core clinics

Structured feedback sessions on an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay. The tutor teaches the criteria, questions the method and marks a draft against the published descriptors. The writing stays the student's own throughout.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback against the published descriptors
  • Research question narrowed until it is actually answerable
  • Supervisor deadlines respected, never worked around

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Qusais

01

What this search returns today, and what it should return

  • Search results in this cluster rarely name a single school or syllabus code
  • The real requirement is a subject and level match, not a location match
  • A travel radius filters the tutor pool before quality does
  • Delivery is online one-to-one; this is stated up front, not buried

Type "IB home tutor in Al Qusais" into Google and you get three kinds of result. There are agency pages that list every district in Dubai and name no school in any of them. There are classified listings from individuals, most of whom teach a broad age range and none of whom state a syllabus code. And there are blog posts about the IB in general that mention Al Qusais once, in a list. None of these answers the question a parent actually has.

The question is narrower than the search box suggests. A parent typing it has usually already had a conversation at a parents' evening. A teacher has said the word "predicted" about a subject, and the parent has gone looking for someone who can teach that specific thing. What they need to know is whether the person they are about to pay has taught the Higher Level option their child sits, has seen that internal assessment marked, and knows which Paper the lost marks are coming from.

Geography does not help with any of that. It helps with one thing only, which is travel. If a provider can send someone to a building in Al Qusais, that provider has restricted itself to people who live close enough to make the journey worthwhile at the rate quoted. In a district where the IB cohort is a minority of a minority, that filter removes almost everybody who is genuinely specialised.

The honest reframing is to drop the radius and keep the specialism. IB Gram does not run home visits in Dubai, and says so before a parent asks. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor chosen because of what they teach rather than where they sleep. The rest of this page is the evidence for why that trade is worth making, including the costs on both sides.

02

Does anybody near Al Qusais teach your child's exact subject at the right level?

Work the arithmetic through from the school roll rather than from a marketing claim. Dubai had 227 private schools in 2024-25 and the IB accounted for 7% of pupils. The Diploma sits in the final two years of that, so the DP cohort in any one district is small. Split it by subject and level and the numbers get smaller again: a school with sixty DP students might have twelve taking Chemistry HL and four taking Physics HL.

Now ask who teaches those four. In practice it is one teacher, possibly two, both employed full time at the school and both barred by the MoHRE permit code of conduct from tutoring their own enrolled students. Abu Dhabi's regulator ADEK sets out the same prohibition in its professional-ethics rules for school staff. So the pool of people near Al Qusais who know Physics HL inside out and can legally tutor your child is not the pool of people who teach it locally.

That leaves independent tutors, and the question becomes how to tell a specialist from a generalist. The test is specific and takes two minutes. Ask which assessment components the subject has and what each is worth. Ask what the internal assessment is marked against. Ask which topic the student most recently lost marks on and what the command term in that question was. A specialist answers without hedging. A generalist talks about confidence and rapport.

Online delivery changes the arithmetic because it removes distance from the equation entirely. The constraint stops being who lives within twenty minutes of Damascus Street and becomes who is free at 17:30 Gulf Standard Time. That is a far larger set of people, and it is the only way an Al Qusais family reliably gets a tutor who has taught the exact Higher Level option their child sits.

03

What IB support costs around Al Qusais, and who published each figure

Start with the cheapest thing on the market and work upwards, because that is the order a budget actually gets built in. University-student and entry-level online tutors advertise from around AED 45 to 65 on EdFlik and from roughly AED 33 to 52 on Tutopiya. Those rates buy homework supervision and a second explanation of what the teacher already said. For MYP consolidation that can be enough. For a Diploma internal assessment it is not, and a family that pays it for DP work usually ends up paying twice.

The next band up is where most Diploma tutoring actually happens. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai rate table for 2026 puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutoring at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED advertises AED 650 at the examiner-led end. Monthly packages seen in this market run from about AED 799 for eight online sessions to AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. Compare the middle of that range against the middle of the online qualified band and the gap is roughly AED 80 to 150 an hour. That gap is the travel premium. It does not buy more teaching time, better subject knowledge or a tighter match to the syllabus. It buys the tutor's journey along Ittihad Road, paid for by you.

None of these are IB Gram's prices and none should be read as such. They are what other providers in this market publish, quoted so that a parent in Al Qusais can see the shape of the market before anyone quotes them anything. For what IB Gram charges, start with the trial lesson and the consultation, where the subject, level and session length are known and a figure can be given against them rather than against an average.

An in-home hour against an online hour, line by line

A fair comparison has to hold the teaching constant and look at everything around it. Assume the same tutor, the same subject and the same sixty minutes of instruction. What changes is the cost, the travel, the size of the pool you are choosing from, and what happens when a Tuesday falls apart.

Travel is the item parents underestimate. A tutor coming into Al Qusais from Deira or Bur Dubai at 17:00 is looking at twenty-five to forty minutes each way on Ittihad Road or Damascus Street during term time. That hour and a bit is priced into the rate whether anyone names it or not, and it caps how many students that tutor can see in an evening, which pushes the rate up again. A 17:30 online session starts at 17:30.

Rescheduling is the second item. An in-home slot that gets cancelled because a child has a late football fixture is usually lost, because the tutor cannot refill a journey at short notice. An online slot moves to Thursday. Over a two-year Diploma that difference is worth several sessions, which at AED 250 an hour is real money as well as real teaching.

The third item is the one that actually decides grades: the pool. An in-home requirement narrows your choice to people who can reach your building. Online, the choice is everyone free at that hour. For Mathematics at Standard Level the difference may not matter much. For Chemistry HL option work or a Physics internal assessment with messy uncertainty data, it is the whole decision. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai, and the table below is the argument for why that is the right position rather than an apology for it.

Check the permit before you check the price

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's own service page, "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing", lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE app, website or e-services system.

The consequence matters. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any specific figure you see quoted for this should be treated with scepticism. What a parent can do is ask directly whether the person teaching their child holds the permit, and ask when it was issued. A legitimate tutor answers in one sentence.

There is a second rule that catches families by surprise. The permit carries a code of conduct that bars a teacher from tutoring students affiliated with their own school, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school. So the arrangement many parents instinctively want, their child's own subject teacher privately in the evening, is the one arrangement to avoid.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal again. That requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit and runs no centre in the UAE, which is why you will not find a Dubai address on this page. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one.

Which schools Al Qusais children attend, and what that changes

Al Qusais itself is well served for British and Indian curriculum schooling. For the Diploma specifically, most families in the district travel. The nearest dense IB provision sits in Al Garhoud, Oud Metha, Festival City and Al Jaddaf, with further options towards Nad Al Sheba and Academic City. That journey is the single biggest determinant of when a tutoring session can start.

A child leaving a school in Al Garhoud at 15:30 and travelling back into Al Qusais by bus is rarely home before 16:20, later if the route serves Mirdif first. Add a change of clothes and something to eat and 17:00 is the earliest honest start. For a child at a school with a 14:45 finish and a short route, 16:00 works. These are not small distinctions. A session booked at the wrong hour gets cancelled twice and then quietly abandoned.

The regulator question comes up constantly in this corridor. Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and publishes inspection ratings on a six-band scale. Families living in Al Nahda on the Sharjah side but schooling in Dubai are inspected by KHDA for school purposes, while Sharjah private schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in that emirate and also approves fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements had to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, with combined classes strictly prohibited. For an IB student, that means these subjects run alongside the Diploma, and a tutoring plan that ignores them tends to come apart in the spring.

07

What a tutor may and may not touch on an IA, EE or TOK essay

  • A tutor teaches the criteria and marks drafts against the published descriptors
  • A tutor does not write, complete or ghostwrite any assessed component
  • Research-question design is where most internal assessment marks are won
  • School supervisor deadlines are worked to, never worked around

This is the clearest line in IB tutoring and the one most often blurred in this market. The internal assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay and Personal Project must be the student's own work. A tutor does not write any of them, does not edit one to completion, and does not supply a finished piece for a student to submit. One provider found in this SERP sells completed internal assessments outright; that is an academic-integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger for the student, not a shortcut.

What a tutor can do is substantial, and it is where most of the available marks sit. A tutor teaches the criteria. For a science internal assessment that means explaining what the research design criterion actually rewards, why a vague research question caps the whole piece, and how uncertainty propagation turns a mid-band analysis into a top-band one. For an Economics commentary it means working on the 800-word limit, diagram accuracy and explicit evaluation against a published article the student chose.

Feedback on a draft is legitimate and expected. The IB's model assumes a supervisor reads drafts and comments. A tutor can do the same thing in parallel, marking against the published descriptors and saying which criterion is losing marks and why. What the tutor returns is a commentary, not a rewritten paragraph. If a tutor hands back prose the student can paste in, the line has been crossed.

There is also a sequencing point. Most internal assessment marks are lost before any writing starts, in a research question that cannot be answered within the word limit or a method that generates data nobody can analyse. The most useful hour a tutor spends on an internal assessment is usually the first one, weeks before the draft deadline. Families who come to this in the final fortnight are paying for damage limitation instead of design.

08

What happens when no specialist is free

Every tutoring provider in this market has availability gaps, and almost none of them say so. The pattern a parent in Al Qusais will recognise is being told yes to everything, then being matched with somebody who teaches a neighbouring subject and hoping it works out. A Physics HL request answered with a general science tutor is the most common version of this.

The honest version is a disclosed answer. For common Diploma subjects at both levels, matching is usually quick and the first trial lesson can often sit inside the same week. For narrow Higher Level options, for less common group 2 languages and for subjects where the student needs a specific exam board at IGCSE as well, it can take longer. In those cases we say how long, and if the right tutor is not available we say that rather than substituting someone close enough.

The second half of that disclosure is about where the tutor is. Because delivery is online, a tutor teaching an Al Qusais student may be based in the UAE or elsewhere. We say which, before the trial, because a family has a right to know who is teaching their child and from where. Several providers in this market route UAE parents to overseas numbers without mentioning it, which is a trust failure before it is anything else.

If a subject genuinely has no specialist free, there are two useful fallbacks and we name them. One is a tutor in an adjacent subject who can carry the shared skills, which works for maths-heavy sciences and not for language acquisition. The other is a shorter, narrower engagement on the component where marks are actually being lost, rather than a full weekly slot on the whole subject. Both are better than a mismatch that burns a term.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Qusais

Students taught through IB Gram live across the Dubai-Sharjah corridor and the older districts around it. The notes below are about what each area does to a tutoring timetable, which is the only thing a tutor can actually plan around.

Al Qusais

Three Red Line stations and the Damascus Street and Ittihad Road junctions. School buses from here reach Al Garhoud, Mirdif and Academic City, so a child's day can end anywhere between 14:30 and 16:30 depending on the route.

Al Twar

Directly inland from Al Qusais and served by the same school runs. Families here often have two children at schools in different districts, which is why staggered rather than shared session slots work better.

Al Nahda

Straddles the Dubai-Sharjah boundary, so a child may live in one emirate and attend a school regulated by another. Evening traffic towards Sharjah is the constraint on any session starting before 17:00.

Al Garhoud

Home to several IB and British-curriculum schools that Al Qusais children travel to. A 15:30 finish plus a bus route back along Casablanca Road usually makes 17:00 the first realistic start.

Mirdif

A large villa district reached from Al Qusais via Algeria Street. Several schools here finish later, and Year 12 and 13 students frequently stay on for revision sessions until 16:30.

Al Mamzar

Coastal and quiet, with short journeys to Deira and Sharjah schools. Session timing here is driven more by family routine than by traffic, which makes early-evening slots straightforward.

Hor Al Anz

Dense older housing between Deira and Al Qusais, feeding mostly Indian-curriculum and British-curriculum schools. IB students here usually travel further, so later slots are the norm.

Muhaisnah

Includes Al Muhaisnah 4 and the schools around it. Long bus routes mean a child can leave at 06:30 and return at 15:45, which argues for no more than two weekday sessions.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Qusais

Al Qusais, Al Twar and Muhaisnah

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, level and syllabus

Not just "maths" but Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and the school. Where there is an exam board involved we ask for it. This is the single step that decides whether the match is right, and it takes a parent about four minutes.

  2. 02

A trial lesson with the proposed specialist

Before any commitment, your child meets the tutor and works on real material from their current topic. You get a short written note afterwards saying what the tutor found and what they would do first. If the fit is wrong, say so and we match again.

  3. 03

A diagnostic and a written plan

The first full sessions establish where marks are actually going, by component rather than by topic feeling. The plan that follows names the assessment objectives being targeted and the order of work, mapped against the school's own scheme and deadlines.

Weekly sessions in Gulf Standard Time

A fixed slot that fits after the school run from wherever your child studies, usually between 16:00 and 20:00 on a weekday. The same tutor each week, with a written summary after each session so the plan stays visible to you.

    Review before each assessment point

Ahead of mocks, internal assessment deadlines and the final papers, the plan is reviewed against what the school is reporting. Sessions intensify or pause depending on what the term holds, rather than running at the same rate regardless.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Specialism instead of proximity

Your child is matched to someone who teaches their exact subject at their exact level, not to whoever can reach Al Qusais by 17:00. For Higher Level options and internal assessment work that difference is the whole outcome.

Prices stated as market rates with sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the month it was read. You can check each one. For our own pricing, a trial and a consultation produce a figure against your actual subject and session length.

The academic-honesty line stated in advance

A tutor teaches the criteria, questions the method and marks drafts against the published descriptors. The internal assessment, Extended Essay and TOK essay remain the student's own work throughout, which protects the student's result.

Delivery disclosed before you ask

Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram runs no centre in the UAE and does not send tutors to UAE addresses. You know the model before any money is discussed rather than after.

Timetabled around the real school day

Session slots are set against when your child actually gets home from Al Garhoud, Mirdif or Academic City, not against a generic evening. A slot that survives contact with the school run is a slot that still exists in March.

Availability gaps named rather than filled

If no specialist is free for a narrow option subject, we say so and give the realistic wait. A near-enough substitute costs a family a term and then has to be unwound, which is worse than a straight answer on day one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Qusais: your questions answered

Is there an IB home tutor in Al Qusais who actually teaches my child's Higher Level subject?+

Probably not within driving distance, and that is the honest answer. The Diploma cohort in any one Dubai district is small, Higher Level options split it further, and the teachers who know those options best are usually employed full time and barred by the MoHRE permit code of conduct from tutoring their own school's students. IB Gram solves it differently: your child is matched to a subject specialist who teaches that exact level and the lesson happens one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The radius disappears and the specialism stays.

Why does IB Gram not send a tutor to our flat in Al Qusais?+

Because it would make the teaching worse. Requiring a tutor to travel to a UAE address restricts the choice to people who live close enough to justify the journey at the rate quoted, which in a district with a small IB cohort removes almost every genuine specialist. Home visits are a service IB Gram runs only in India. For UAE families every lesson is one-to-one over live video, which means the tutor is chosen for what they teach rather than for where they live, and no part of your fee pays for time spent on Ittihad Road.

How do I check that a private tutor advertising in Al Qusais holds a MoHRE permit?+

Ask directly, and ask when it was issued. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through MoHRE's app, website or e-services system under the service "Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing". Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published. A tutor operating properly will answer the question in a sentence; hesitation is the signal.

What do Dubai providers publish as their hourly rate for IB Diploma support?+

Working upwards: Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 at the entry level. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level work at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED advertises AED 650. These are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, not IB Gram's prices. Ours are quoted against a known subject, level and session length after a trial.

Our building in Al Qusais has slow evening Wi-Fi. Does that rule out online lessons?+

Rarely. A one-to-one video lesson with a shared whiteboard needs far less bandwidth than streaming video, and the usual fix is turning the student's camera down rather than abandoning the session. What helps most is a wired connection or sitting closer to the router, and agreeing a fallback in advance so a dropped connection costs two minutes rather than the lesson. The trial lesson is the right place to test this, because it shows you what your actual connection does at the hour you plan to use it.

Can one tutor take both Maths AA and Physics for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking because the overlap is real. Vectors, calculus and uncertainty handling appear in both, and a tutor comfortable with Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level often teaches Physics to a good standard. Where it breaks down is at the top of Higher Level, where Paper 3 in each subject rewards quite different habits. For a student chasing a 6 or 7 in both, two specialists usually beat one generalist. For a student stabilising a 4, one tutor across both is efficient and cheaper.

Is a teacher from my child's own school allowed to tutor them privately?+

No, and this is the arrangement parents most often ask for. The MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled there. Beyond the rule, there is a practical problem: the person who predicts a grade should not also be paid to raise it. An independent specialist who knows the same syllabus avoids both issues.

How much of an IB Diploma grade comes from work done during the course?+

Enough that leaving it late is the most expensive mistake available. Each Diploma subject carries an internal assessment marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB, typically worth somewhere between a fifth and a quarter of the subject grade, and the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge together contribute up to three points of the 45. For a Dubai school sitting the May session, those deadlines fall across the autumn and winter of DP2. Support that starts in March of the final year arrives after most of that has been banked.

Where exactly does Extended Essay support stop being legitimate?+

Yes, and the line is clear. A tutor teaches the assessment criteria, helps narrow a research question until it can be answered in 4,000 words, questions the method, and marks a draft against the published descriptors. A tutor does not write the essay, does not rewrite paragraphs and does not supply text to paste in. The school supervisor's role and deadlines stand. What comes back from a session is a commentary on what is losing marks, which is also where most of the available marks actually are.

My child is in DP1 at a school near Al Garhoud and has slipped in two subjects. How many sessions a week is sensible?+

Two subjects at sixty minutes each, on different evenings, is the usual starting point in DP1. That is enough to stay ahead of the class in both without eating the evening a student needs for their own work. Taking three or four subjects at once early in DP1 tends to produce attendance problems by half term. The sequencing matters too: start with the subject where the internal assessment deadline falls first, because that mark is fixed earliest and is the hardest to recover later.

Which IB exam session do Dubai schools sit, and when should revision actually begin?+

Dubai IB schools sit the May session. Specific IB exam and results dates are set by the IB and should be confirmed with your school's Diploma coordinator or on ibo.org rather than taken from any tutoring site, including this one. What is safe to plan around is the shape of the year: internal assessments and the Extended Essay fall through the autumn and winter of DP2, mocks usually land in the new year, and serious past-paper work needs to be running by then rather than starting after it.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education still apply to an IB student at a Dubai private school?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA required its arrangements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibits combined classes. These subjects run alongside the Diploma, so a tutoring plan built only around six IB subjects has left something out of the week.

What happens if no IB specialist is free for the subject we need?+

We say so, and give a realistic wait rather than a yes. Common Diploma subjects at both levels usually match quickly, often with a trial inside the same week. Narrow Higher Level options and less common languages can take longer. Where the right tutor is not available, the two honest alternatives are a shorter engagement on the specific component losing marks, or a tutor in an adjacent subject who can carry the shared skills. A near-enough substitute on a full weekly slot costs a term and then has to be unwound.

Does my child need tutoring to get UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

No. Equivalency is a documentary process run by the Ministry of Education, not something tutoring delivers or that IB Gram performs. For the British track the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited A-Level at no less than E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. No IB points threshold should be quoted without reading it on moe.gov.ae, so verify your own case through the official channel.

Start with the subject, not the postcode

If a teacher has used the word "predicted" about one of your child's Diploma subjects, the useful next step is narrow: name the subject, the level and the component where marks are going, and meet a specialist in that exact thing. Tell us which school your child attends and when they actually get home, and we will propose a tutor and a trial slot that survives the Al Qusais school run. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. If the fit is wrong after the trial, say so and we will match again rather than talk you into it.
