IGCSE Science Tutor in Al Qusais

Hiring an IGCSE science tutor in Al Qusais means pricing three subjects, not one. Biology, chemistry and physics each carry their own syllabus code, their own papers and their own practical arrangement, so the bill multiplies in a way maths tutoring does not. This page costs the options out, names every source, and shows where Al Qusais families overspend.

  • Three subjects priced separately, not as one vague package
  • Lessons over live video; no tutor is sent to a UAE address
  • Matched by syllabus code: 0610, 0620, 0625, 0654, 4SD0

IB & IGCSE in Al Qusais

Science tutoring is a three-subject bill, and that is the whole budgeting problem

A family pricing maths support has one subject to pay for. A family in Al Qusais pricing science has either two or three, depending on a decision the school made about the entry, and the arithmetic changes completely between those two cases. One hour a week of biology, chemistry and physics at the mid-market Dubai rate of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour becomes three hours a week - somewhere between AED 1,800 and AED 3,600 a month if nothing is trimmed. That is more than most households intended to spend on tutoring in total.

So the first useful move is not to find a tutor. It is to establish exactly what your child is entered for. A Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences entry under code 0654 produces a double award - two GCSE grades - from one combined course, and a separate-sciences entry under 0610, 0620 and 0625 produces three. Pearson's equivalent routes are the separate 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 specifications, or Science Double Award under 4SD0. The number of codes on the timetable tells you how many subjects you are actually buying help for.

The second move is to accept that the three sciences do not need equal hours. Across the Al Qusais students we see, the distribution of difficulty is consistent and lopsided. Physics causes the most trouble because it is the most mathematical and the least forgiving of weak algebra. Chemistry causes the second most, concentrated in moles, equations and energy. Biology causes the least in terms of understanding and the most in terms of marks lost to imprecise written answers. A budget split evenly across three subjects is almost always the wrong split.

The third is that some of the most common science purchases in Dubai do not buy marks. Paid past-paper collections when the boards publish specimen material freely. Group revision courses sold by the term and taught across all three sciences at once. Weekly sessions with no marked written output, where nobody can say at the end of a month which topics were closed. And tutoring bought in April for a June series, which can repair technique and cannot build two years of content. Each is set out on this page with the cheaper alternative beside it.

IB Gram delivers IGCSE science to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a three-subject bill the format matters financially as well as practically: the published Dubai in-home band of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour includes the tutor's round trip, and multiplying a travel premium by three subjects is how a science budget doubles without anybody choosing it.

At a glance

  • Find the syllabus codes first - they tell you how many subjects you are funding
  • Double award 0654 produces two grades; separate sciences produce three
  • Physics and chemistry usually need more hours than biology
  • An even three-way split of the budget is nearly always wrong
  • A travel premium multiplied across three subjects is the fastest way to overspend

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The science bill arrives at three different points in a Dubai school career, and it is far cheaper at the first than at the third. Here is what each stage actually requires.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Sciences, Years 10-11

Either three separate sciences or a combined double-award course, examined at the end of Year 11. Cambridge separate sciences carry six paper numbers each across the core and extended routes plus a practical arrangement; Pearson separate specifications carry two written papers each. The written demand is heavier than families expect: most marks beyond recall are earned through precise explanation rather than through calculation.

Schools around Al Qusais differ on whether a cohort sits separate sciences or a double award, and some stream students between the two during Year 10. Ask the head of science in writing which entry your child is on and when it becomes final, because the answer changes the number of tutoring hours you are budgeting for by a third.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7-9, where science tutoring is cheapest

Lower secondary science builds the three things IGCSE assumes and rarely teaches again: rearranging a formula without error, reading a graph and stating what it shows, and writing an explanation that answers the command word. A student secure on those arrives in Year 10 needing a fraction of the support their classmates will buy.

Most of the science tutoring spending in this neighbourhood happens in Year 11, after a mock has made the problem visible. The same money spent in Year 9 would have bought foundations rather than exam technique, which is less satisfying to buy and considerably better value.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

After IGCSE: Diploma or A Level sciences

An extended or higher-tier separate-science entry is the normal route into IB Diploma Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or into A Level equivalents. A double-award background is not a barrier but does mean less content and fewer practicals have been covered, which is a defined bridging job rather than an obstacle.

Several schools within reach of Al Qusais run the IB Diploma sciences, and the Diploma expects uncertainty treatment, graph linearisation and extended written justification that no IGCSE route demands. If the Diploma is the plan, the summer after Year 11 is the cheapest time to close that gap.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Families search for an IGCSE science tutor in Al Qusais and then name something far more specific. These are the requests that come up most across the three subjects, with the hours each typically takes.

Physics: electricity and circuits

Core and Extended

Series and parallel reasoning, potential dividers, power and energy calculations. The most consistently mishandled area in IGCSE physics because it combines algebra with a model students have not visualised. Typically four to six focused sessions, and it pays back across several questions a paper.

Physics: forces, motion and moments

Core and Extended

Graph interpretation for distance and velocity, Newton's laws applied to simple systems, moments and equilibrium. Marks are lost to unit conversion and to gradients read without units rather than to the physics itself, which makes this cheap to repair.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Mainly Extended

The quantitative spine of the course and the dividing line between a 6 and an 8 for most Al Qusais students. Limiting reagents, percentage yield, concentration and gas volumes. Responds to short, frequent drills with immediate marking far better than to explanation.

Chemistry: equations and reactivity

Core and Extended

Balancing, ionic equations, the reactivity series, acids and bases and electrolysis. Students who have memorised outcomes without the pattern cannot predict an unfamiliar case, and the papers increasingly ask them to. Three to five sessions usually shifts it.

Biology: written precision

Core and Extended

Biology marks are lost in language more than in understanding. Describe against explain, named structures, the direction of a gradient, and answers that stop one step short of the mark point. Drilling against the published mark scheme is the only reliable fix, and it is quick.

Biology: transport, respiration and photosynthesis

Core and Extended

The three process-heavy topics where diagrams are reproduced correctly and the explanation that carries the marks is missing. Teaching each as a sequence of causes rather than a labelled diagram changes how students answer unfamiliar versions of the question.

Practical skills and the practical papers

Paper 5 or Paper 6 routes

Reading a measuring instrument, tabulating results with consistent decimal places, plotting a graph that earns the plotting marks, and suggesting a genuine improvement. Whether your child sits a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper changes the preparation entirely.

Graph and data skills across all three sciences

All tiers

One skill, three subjects, and the highest-leverage purchase on this page. Choosing axes, scaling sensibly, drawing a best-fit line, taking a gradient with units and describing a trend in the words the mark scheme wants. Two or three sessions serve biology, chemistry and physics at once.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy science help, each priced differently. With three subjects in play the choice between them matters more than it does for a single-subject plan.

One subject at a time, in sequence

Rather than three weekly slots from the start, tackle the weakest subject for six to eight weeks, close the diagnosed list, then move to the next. The total hours are lower, the student is not carrying three sets of homework from three tutors, and the bill arrives in instalments rather than all at once.

  • One diagnostic per subject, then sequence by severity
  • Six to eight weeks per subject before reviewing
  • A third of the monthly cost of three simultaneous slots
  • Suits Year 10 and the first half of Year 11

A shared data-and-graph block

Two or three sessions on the skills common to all three sciences: axes, scaling, best-fit lines, gradients with units, and describing a trend in mark-scheme language. One purchase that improves biology, chemistry and physics simultaneously, which makes it the best value item on this page.

  • Serves all three subjects from one set of sessions
  • Practical-paper skills included: tables, decimal places, improvements
  • Marked against published schemes, not ticked
  • Usually two to three sessions in total

A costed block before the June series

Two sessions a week for a defined six to ten weeks across the one or two subjects that matter most, aimed at a written list rather than at the syllabus. Priced and ended as a block so the total is known at the outset and nothing renews by default.

  • Fixed sessions, fixed end date, known total
  • Narrowed to three to six named topics per subject
  • Timed sections under exam conditions each session
  • Ends with the examination, not with a renewal

Double award or triple: the entry decision that sets your science bill

Before pricing anything, find out how many science grades your child is being entered for. Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences, syllabus 0654, is a double award: one combined course covering biology, chemistry and physics that produces two GCSE grades. Cambridge Combined Science, 0653, is a single award from a similar combined course. Separate sciences under 0610 for biology, 0620 for chemistry and 0625 for physics produce three grades and cover more content in each. Pearson's routes mirror this with 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 separately, or Science Double Award under 4SD0.

The tutoring consequence is direct. A double-award student has one body of content taught as a combined course, so a competent general science tutor can genuinely cover it and two hours a week is a credible plan. A separate-sciences student has three bodies of content, each going further, and the specialisms begin to matter - the person who is excellent on biology explanation marks is not automatically the person to fix circuit reasoning.

There is a sixth-form consequence too, and it is the one that should drive the decision rather than the tutoring cost. Separate sciences cover more and are the smoother route into IB Diploma or A Level sciences. A double award is accepted by many sixth forms but leaves more content to close in the first term of Year 12. If a science-heavy Diploma is the plan, the money is better spent making a separate-science entry work than on remediating a double award two years later.

The decision usually belongs to the school rather than the family, and some schools stream students between routes during Year 10. Ask the head of science in writing which entry your child is on, when it becomes final, and what evidence the decision rests on. Then buy one diagnostic in the weakest subject before that date, because a marked paper is better evidence than a conversation.

What the Dubai market charges, multiplied across three subjects

The useful way to read published rates on a science page is per month per subject, because that is the number that triples. Bestimate's Dubai rate table, read in October 2026, estimates weekly one-hour sessions at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at budget level, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000-plus for specialist exam-year support. Those are per subject. Take the mid-market band and run three subjects weekly and the monthly figure sits between AED 1,800 and AED 3,600 before anybody discusses quality.

Hourly figures behind those monthly bands: budget online platforms staffed largely by university students advertise from the low double digits, with Tutopiya published from around AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to 300 across the Dubai market, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Named exam specialists run roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase listing AED 270, with BartyED at AED 650 for premium named tutors.

In-home visits are where a three-subject plan becomes genuinely expensive. Published Dubai in-home rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel, with Bestimate showing AED 180 to 350 and independent tutors asking AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages seen in the market are around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions against about AED 799 for eight online sessions - and if that in-home package covers one subject, covering three means absorbing the travel premium three times over.

Every figure above is a published market rate belonging to the provider named, read in October 2026. None is an IB Gram price. We do not print a rate card on these pages because the honest number depends on how many subjects, which codes and how many weeks remain. The free trial lesson is one lesson with one matched tutor, with the fee discussed afterwards, and for a three-subject enquiry we would use it on whichever subject the diagnostic says is worst.

Three sciences, one budget: how to split the hours without wasting them

An even split is the default and it is usually wrong. Buy a diagnostic in each subject first - one marked paper or a substantial section of one, against the published scheme, producing a written list of named weaknesses per subject. That costs three sessions and it almost always reveals that the three subjects are not equally broken. Across the Al Qusais students we see, physics and chemistry absorb more hours than biology, but which of those two leads varies by student and cannot be guessed.

The second principle is to sequence rather than parallelise where the budget is tight. Three simultaneous weekly slots means three tutors setting homework into the same evenings, which is how a plan collapses in week four. Taking the weakest subject for six to eight weeks, closing its list, then moving to the next, costs a third as much per month and usually produces more because the student is only carrying one extra set of work at a time.

The third is to buy the shared skill once. Axes, scaling, best-fit lines, gradients with units, tabulating with consistent decimal places and describing a trend in mark-scheme language are the same skills in biology, chemistry and physics. Two or three sessions on them improves all three subjects, and almost nobody sells it that way because it is hard to bill repeatedly. It is nevertheless the best value purchase available on this page.

The fourth is to protect the biology budget from over-spending. Biology is rarely a comprehension problem and frequently a language problem: describe against explain, answers that stop one step short of the mark point, named structures omitted. That responds to a short drilling block against published schemes rather than to a year of weekly teaching, and families who allocate biology an equal third of the budget usually find they bought less than they thought.

The practical papers, and why your child's route changes the preparation

Cambridge separate sciences assess practical skills through either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and which one your child sits is a centre-level arrangement rather than a student choice. This is one of the least-discussed cost factors in science tutoring, because the two routes need genuinely different preparation and a tutor who does not ask which applies will prepare for the wrong one.

A student on the practical-test route needs apparatus familiarity: reading a measuring cylinder or thermometer correctly, setting up a circuit without wasting time, taking repeat readings, and recording in a table with consistent decimal places. Much of that happens in the school laboratory and cannot be replicated at home, which is why the tutoring contribution there is about planning, tabulating and interpreting rather than about handling equipment.

A student on the alternative-to-practical route needs something closer to a comprehension skill: reading a described method, spotting the controlled variable, identifying the source of error that actually matters, completing a results table, plotting from given data and proposing a genuine improvement rather than a generic one. This is highly trainable online and one of the most reliably improvable components in the whole entry.

Pearson's separate specifications assess practical skills within the written papers rather than through a separate practical component, which changes the balance again. The honest summary is that practical marks are easier to gain than most families assume and are usually left untouched because nobody checked which route applied. Two sessions spent on the correct route is better value than ten spent on content a student already half-knows.

Where Al Qusais families waste money on science tutoring

  • Three weekly slots bought before any subject has been diagnosed
  • Paid past-paper bundles when the boards publish the material
  • All-subject group revision at full price for a third of the attention each
  • April starts expected to deliver content rather than technique
  • Preparing for the wrong tier or the wrong practical route

The first and largest waste is buying three weekly slots before any diagnosis. It feels thorough and it produces three homework streams into the same two available evenings, with no written list anywhere to say what is being fixed. Three diagnostic sessions cost a fraction of a month of that arrangement and usually show that one subject needs real work, one needs a short drilling block and one needs nothing yet.

The second is paying for past papers and notes. The boards publish specimen and past material, schools distribute it, and paying for a collection buys convenience rather than content. The product worth paying for is marking: a paper marked against the published scheme by someone who can explain why an answer that looks right earned nothing. A hundred unmarked papers rehearse a student's existing habits.

The third is the all-subjects group revision course sold by the term. For a student near a grade boundary who needs structured reminding it can work. For a student whose physics problem is algebraic rearrangement it cannot, because the class cannot stop. And when it covers all three sciences in rotation, each subject gets a third of the attention for the full term price.

The fourth is starting in April. Eight weeks before a June series is enough to repair technique, drill the quantitative spine of chemistry and train the alternative-to-practical paper. It is not enough to build two years of content across three subjects, and a provider implying otherwise is selling reassurance. The fifth is tutoring on the wrong entry route - paying for extended-tier content when the entry is core, or preparing for a practical test when the centre sits the alternative paper.

06

Series, entries and the exam logistics a tutoring plan has to respect

Dates matter to a science budget because entries close months before papers are sat, and a family that discovers a deadline late can end up paying for a resit cycle. For Cambridge candidates in the UAE the series are June and November. The February and March series is offered to India only, so no Al Qusais family should be planning around a March examination - a point worth stating because incorrect advice on this circulates widely in Gulf parenting groups.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences are available in May/June and November. The November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why any session planning should work from the live official timetable on the board's own site rather than from a restated date anywhere, this page included.

Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. That is the school's administrative responsibility rather than a parent's, and it is worth knowing exists if your child's timetable looks different from a classmate's at another school.

For tutoring, the planning consequence is simple. A June series means the useful content window closes around the Easter break, with the final weeks reserved for timed papers and correction. A November resit route exists and should be treated as a route rather than a safety net, because the content has to be held for an extra two terms. Confirm every date with the school's examinations officer.

What IB Gram sells an Al Qusais science family, and what it does not

We match a tutor per subject and per syllabus code, and lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The first lesson is a free trial with the matched tutor - one lesson, fee discussed afterwards rather than before. There is no office, centre or branch in the Emirates, no tutor is sent to a UAE address, and home visits are a service we run only in India. That is stated identically on every UAE page on this site, which is the only way a reader can check that it is a policy rather than a sales line.

We hold no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge or Pearson, and nothing here implies one. Where a regulator appears it is to explain what it does. Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and KHDA inspects schools rather than tutors.

We publish no success rate, no star rating, no student headcount and no claimed grade improvement, because none of those could be produced on request. The verifiable figures on this page are other providers' prices, attributed and dated, plus Dubai's own published market data: 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, 17 curricula offered, and an enrolment split of 37% UK curriculum, 26% Indian, 14% US and 7% International Baccalaureate.

On permits: private tutoring here is regulated, and a parent should ask. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service listing no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published - so disregard any specific amount quoted online. Ask our tutors the same question you would ask anyone else's.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Qusais

Cost and convenience differ street by street in this part of Dubai. Here is what each neighbourhood changes about a science tutoring plan.

Al Qusais 1 and 2

Apartment-dense with short school commutes, which keeps the day manageable but leaves little study space for three subjects. A scheduled online slot per subject is usually easier to protect here than an unscheduled evening of self-study.

Al Qusais 3

Closest to the Sharjah approach and the evening traffic peak. In-home science tutoring here attracts the top of the published travel range and cancels most often, which matters more when three subjects are being arranged rather than one.

Al Nahda

Divided by the Dubai-Sharjah boundary, so neighbouring families compare schools under two regulators and two fee-approval regimes. Science entries can differ between them, which is worth checking before comparing anybody's tutoring costs.

Al Mamzar

Villa-heavy with an established set of extended-tier science cohorts. Requests from here lean towards stretch work for grade 8 and 9 targets rather than the grade 4 to 6 recovery typical further west.

Hor Al Anz and Al Muteena

Older Deira neighbourhoods with many Indian-curriculum schools. Where a student has moved onto an IGCSE science track mid-course, the first purchase should be a diagnostic in each subject rather than three weekly slots.

Oud Metha and Bur Dubai

The Cambridge-heavy side of the catchment, with several large schools entering students across both core and extended science routes in the same year group. Most of the entry-and-tier questions on this page come from here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Qusais

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Al Mamzar

A short radius containing Indian-curriculum, British-track and IB schools, which means neighbouring students can be sitting Cambridge separate sciences, a Co-ordinated Sciences double award and a CBSE science paper in the same year group. The code on the timetable decides the tutoring, not the street.

  • The Westminster School, Dubai
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • The Millennium School, Dubai
  • Apple International School
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Al Mamzar

Oud Metha, Bur Dubai and Al Garhoud

The main Cambridge IGCSE belt within reach of Al Qusais and the source of most practical-paper questions. Entry arrangements for practical assessment vary between centres, so two students at different schools can need quite different preparation for the same subject.

  • St Mary's Catholic High School, Dubai
  • Dubai Gem Private School
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud
  • The Indian High School, Dubai
  • Deira International School

Schools are named as context for the neighbourhood's school ecosystem and the qualifications its students sit; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership is implied, and entry routes, codes and practical arrangements should be confirmed with the school and against KHDA's own published school listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the syllabus codes

0610, 0620, 0625, 0654, 0653, 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 or 4SD0, plus the tier and whether the centre sits a practical test or the alternative paper. Those details decide how many subjects you are funding and what the preparation looks like.

  2. 02

Buy three diagnostics before three slots

One marked paper or substantial section per subject, against the published scheme, producing a written list per subject. It costs a fraction of a month of weekly tutoring and almost always shows the three sciences are not equally broken.

  3. 03

    Sequence by severity, not evenly

Take the worst subject for six to eight weeks, close its list, then move on. Three simultaneous slots means three homework streams into the same two evenings, which is the most common reason a science plan is abandoned by week four.

  4. 04

    Buy the shared skills once

Axes, scaling, best-fit lines, gradients with units, tables with consistent decimal places and trend descriptions in mark-scheme language are the same in all three sciences. Two or three sessions improves biology, chemistry and physics at the same time.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced per subject, honestly

A science enquiry is two or three subjects, so we quote it that way rather than as a single vague package. Most of the overspending we see in this neighbourhood comes from arranging three weekly slots before anybody knew which subject actually needed them.

Matched by code, including the practical route

Whether a centre sits a practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper changes the preparation completely, and a tutor who does not ask will prepare for the wrong one. We ask before matching, which costs nothing and saves sessions.

No travel premium, multiplied by three

Published Dubai in-home rates include the tutor's round trip at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour. Replicate that across three sciences and the premium is paid three times. Online delivery removes it from the price and from the cancellation risk.

We will tell you to buy less

Biology usually needs a short drilling block rather than a year of weekly teaching, and some families need three diagnostics and nothing else this term. Saying so costs us revenue and it is the advice we would want for our own children.

Sourced figures, no invented statistics

Every AED band on this page belongs to the provider that published it and carries the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars rather than dirhams.

Student and parent reviews

What students and parents say about working with IB Gram

Practical feedback on tutor fit, revision structure and communication from IB and IGCSE families we have taught.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Qusais: your questions answered

How much does it cost to tutor all three IGCSE sciences in Al Qusais?+

At the published mid-market Dubai band of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, three weekly hours lands between about AED 1,800 and AED 3,600 a month, read against Bestimate's October 2026 estimates of AED 600 to 1,200 a month per subject at that level. Very few families should spend that. Three diagnostic sessions usually show one subject needs real hours, one needs a short drilling block and one needs nothing yet, which cuts the monthly figure to a third or less without cutting the outcome.

Is a double-award science entry cheaper to tutor than three separate sciences?+

Materially, yes. Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences under 0654 is one combined course producing two grades, so a competent general science tutor can genuinely cover it and one to two hours a week is a credible plan. Separate sciences under 0610, 0620 and 0625 are three bodies of content going further in each, where specialisms start to matter. The decision should still be driven by sixth-form plans rather than by tutoring cost, because separate sciences are the smoother route into Diploma or A Level sciences.

Which of the three sciences should we spend the tutoring budget on?+

Buy a diagnostic in each before deciding, because the answer varies by student and cannot be guessed from report grades. The pattern across Al Qusais students is that physics and chemistry absorb more hours than biology - physics because it is the most mathematical and least forgiving of weak algebra, chemistry because of moles, equations and energy. Biology is usually a language problem rather than a comprehension one, which a short block drilling against published mark schemes fixes faster and more cheaply than weekly teaching.

Why is my child good at biology in class but losing marks in the exam?+

Almost always language rather than understanding. Biology mark schemes reward precision: describe against explain, the named structure rather than a general one, the direction of a gradient stated explicitly, and an answer that reaches the mark point rather than stopping one step short. A student can hold the biology correctly and write an answer worth half the marks. Drilling answers against the published scheme, with someone explaining why a sensible-looking response earned nothing, is the only reliable fix and it works quickly.

Does it matter whether my child sits Paper 5 or Paper 6?+

It changes the preparation entirely, and most tutors never ask. Paper 5 is a practical test in the laboratory, where the value a tutor adds is in planning, tabulating with consistent decimal places, repeats and interpretation rather than in equipment handling. Paper 6 is the alternative-to-practical written paper: reading a described method, identifying the controlled variable and the error that actually matters, completing tables, plotting from given data and proposing a real improvement. The second is highly trainable online and usually left untouched.

Should we buy a group science revision course in Dubai?+

Buy it second, after diagnosis, and know what it can do. A group course works for a student near a grade boundary who needs structured reminding across the syllabus. It cannot work for a student whose physics problem is algebraic rearrangement, because the class cannot stop for one person. When a course rotates across all three sciences for a term fee, each subject receives a third of the attention - which is reasonable value only if all three are genuinely weak in the same way.

What is the cheapest useful thing an Al Qusais family can buy for science?+

Three diagnostics - one per subject - and then nothing else until you have read them. One marked paper or substantial section per subject, against the published scheme, producing a written list of named weaknesses with the marks lost attached. At mid-market rates that is roughly AED 450 to 900 once, and you keep the documents whoever teaches afterwards. The second cheapest is a two-session block on axes, graphs, gradients and trend description, because that single purchase improves all three sciences at once.

Which exam series will my child's IGCSE sciences be sat in?+

For Cambridge candidates in the UAE, the June series with November available as a resit route. The February and March series is offered to India only, so plans built around a March science examination in Dubai are built on incorrect information. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences run May/June and November; the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Work from the board's live timetable.

Is three weekly science slots too much for a Year 11 student?+

Usually, yes - not because of the hours but because of the homework. Three tutors setting work into the same two available evenings, on top of school homework and the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies load that all Dubai private schools carry, is how a plan is abandoned in week four. Sequencing one subject at a time for six to eight weeks costs a third as much per month and generally achieves more, because the student is carrying one extra stream rather than three.

Can one tutor teach biology, chemistry and physics at IGCSE?+

For a double-award entry, often yes, and it is a sensible economy - one relationship, one homework stream, one diagnosis. For separate sciences at extended tier it is less likely to hold up, because the specialisms diverge: the person strongest on biology explanation marks is not automatically the one to repair circuit reasoning or stoichiometry. Ask a prospective tutor which of the three they have taught to extended tier most recently, and listen for whether they volunteer the one they are weakest on.

We are starting in April before a June series. What can tutoring realistically do?+

Repair technique and drill the most mark-dense routines, which is worth real money. In eight weeks a student can be trained on command words and complete mark-point answers, drilled on moles and stoichiometry, taught the alternative-to-practical paper properly and given timed practice with correction. What eight weeks cannot do is build two years of content across three subjects, and anybody suggesting otherwise is selling reassurance. Narrow the plan to one or two subjects and accept the trade-off deliberately.

How do we check an IGCSE science tutor in Dubai is permitted to teach privately?+

Ask directly. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service, which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Because it costs nothing, a working tutor has no financial reason to be without one. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat quoted amounts as unverified.

Do you send science tutors to homes in Al Qusais?+

No. Every UAE lesson we arrange is one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we operate only in India, stated the same way on every UAE page we publish. The Dubai market does supply in-home science tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel. The arithmetic worth seeing is that replicating an in-home arrangement across three sciences means paying the travel premium three times, which is how a science budget doubles without anybody choosing it.

What does a science diagnostic session actually give us?+

A marked paper or substantial section per subject, sat under something close to timed conditions, assessed against the published scheme, and converted into a written list of three to six named weaknesses with the marks lost beside each. It will usually also give a view on whether the current tier and entry route are right. You keep the document whether you continue with us, hand it to another tutor or decide no weekly tutoring is needed yet. Almost nobody in this market sells it on its own.

Find the codes, buy the diagnostics, then spend

If you are pricing an IGCSE science tutor in Al Qusais, two steps come before any monthly commitment. Get the syllabus codes and the practical route from your child's exam timetable so you know how many subjects you are actually funding, then buy one diagnostic per subject and read the lists before arranging anything weekly. Most families discover that one subject needs real hours, one needs a short drilling block and one needs nothing yet. After that, the first lesson with a matched tutor is a free trial - one lesson, fee discussed afterwards - delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
