IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Qusais

The real question behind every search for an IB chemistry tutor in Al Qusais is whether anyone within reach actually knows this course. Here is the honest answer, plus the questions that expose a tutor who does not, how the current chemistry guide is structured, and what we say when no specialist is free. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time.

  • Availability and fallback stated before you commit anything
  • Matched to Chemistry HL or SL under the current IB guide

IB & IGCSE in Al Qusais

Is there anybody near Al Qusais who actually knows this course? The honest answer

Parents in Al Qusais do not usually start by asking about pedagogy. They ask a supply question: is there someone within twenty minutes of Damascus Street who genuinely knows IB Diploma Chemistry, as opposed to someone who can explain chemistry. The two are not the same, and the gap between them is where most of the money spent on chemistry tutoring in this city disappears. So this page answers the supply question directly, gives you the means to test any tutor you find, and states what happens when the right person is not available.

The honest position is this. Chemistry is a common enough subject that general science tutoring is easy to buy anywhere in Dubai. Chemistry at Diploma Higher Level, under the guide whose first examinations fell in 2025, taught by someone who has marked a scientific investigation against the published criteria and worked through organic reaction mechanisms with a Year 13 - that is a narrower pool than any area-based search will show you. Filter by distance from Al Qusais and you are choosing from whoever lives nearby. Filter by course and level, and the pool is the whole Gulf evening.

There is a specific reason the course knowledge matters more in chemistry than in most subjects right now. The current guide reorganised the whole syllabus into six themes - three under Structure and three under Reactivity - replacing the older numbered topic list that almost every set of notes, revision site and second-hand resource on the internet is still written against. A tutor can explain bonding beautifully and still be navigating by a map that no longer matches your child's assessment. The content is not wrong; the organisation, the emphasis and the paper structure are.

The second reason is the investigation. A fifth of the chemistry grade is a single piece of coursework the student designs, runs and writes, marked against four criteria. A tutor who has never seen one marked gives generous, encouraging feedback on a draft that would score in the middle band, and the student finds out in Year 13. Asking whether a tutor has marked against the descriptors is a more useful question than asking about their degree, and it is the one almost nobody asks.

IB Gram delivers chemistry to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India, and we say so before anybody spends anything rather than afterwards. What that buys an Al Qusais family is a match on the level and the component rather than on driving distance - and a stated answer, with a date, if the right specialist is not free in your window.

At a glance

  • General science tutoring is easy to buy; Diploma HL chemistry is not
  • The current guide runs six themes, not the older numbered topics
  • Most online notes and second-hand resources use the superseded structure
  • Ask whether a tutor has marked an investigation against the descriptors
  • Availability and fallback are stated at the match stage, not after payment

Chemistry help gets asked for at three points, and the supply problem is different at each. Here is where tutors are plentiful, where they are scarce, and what that means for an Al Qusais family's planning.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Six themes across two levels, assessed through two written papers and one scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Paper 1 carries multiple-choice questions and a data-based section; Paper 2 carries short-answer and extended-response work at greater weight. Higher Level extends within each theme rather than adding separate options, which means HL depth is woven through rather than bolted on.

Higher Level chemistry is the scarcest tutoring match in this subject across the Gulf, and demand concentrates in the same two evening hours. Around Al Qusais the Diploma cohorts themselves sit mainly in Al Mamzar, Al Garhoud and Festival City, so a family here is often arranging support for a child who commutes to school each morning.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Four criteria out of eight each: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Supply here is comfortable - most science graduates can teach it - but the criterion scores are the best early warning available for whether a child will cope with the Diploma investigation.

MYP reports in Dubai arrive as four criterion scores plus an overall grade, and the conversion between them is set by the school rather than by a public table. Send a chemistry tutor the criterion scores rather than the overall, because a student weak on inquiring and designing needs a different term from one weak on knowing and understanding.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry as the route in

Most students around Al Qusais arrive into Diploma chemistry from Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620, Coordinated Sciences 0654 or Pearson 4CH1. Supply at this level is abundant and inexpensive. The gap into the Diploma is in reasoning depth, mechanism-level organic chemistry, and quantitative work with uncertainty - none of which IGCSE demands at Diploma standard.

A student who came through Coordinated Sciences rather than separate chemistry has met less content and fewer practicals, and that is worth naming in the first message rather than discovering in November. It is a bridging job of a defined size, not a reason to avoid Higher Level.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Families looking for an IB chemistry tutor in Al Qusais describe one of a handful of problems once a tutor is on the call. These are the ones that come up most, and how hard each is to staff.

Models of the particulate nature of matter

HL and SL, Structure 1

Atomic structure, electron configurations, ionisation energy trends and the mole concept. Easy to find help for and easy to teach badly: students who can recite configurations often cannot explain a first ionisation energy anomaly, which is exactly what Paper 2 asks them to do in words.

Models of bonding and structure

HL and SL, Structure 2

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces, VSEPR shapes and hybridisation at Higher Level. The marks sit in justification rather than identification - naming a shape earns little without the electron-domain reasoning that produced it.

Classification of matter

HL and SL, Structure 3

Periodicity, the behaviour of metals and non-metals, and an introduction to organic structure and spectroscopy. Students treat this theme as revision of IGCSE and then lose marks on trend explanations that require the bonding model from Structure 2 to be applied properly.

What drives chemical reactions?

HL and SL, Reactivity 1

Enthalpy, Hess cycles, bond enthalpies, entropy and Gibbs energy at Higher Level. Sign errors in energy cycles are the most predictable mark loss in the whole course, and they respond to drilling rather than to re-teaching the theory.

How much, how fast and how far?

HL and SL, Reactivity 2

Stoichiometry, yield, rates, equilibrium, acids and bases, and the quantitative treatment of each at Higher Level. This theme carries the heaviest calculation load on the course and rewards method discipline: unrounded intermediate values, units carried through, and a stated assumption.

What are the mechanisms of chemical change?

HL and SL, Reactivity 3

Redox, electrochemistry and organic mechanisms, extended substantially at Higher Level. This is the hardest theme to staff properly, because teaching nucleophilic substitution as a diagram to memorise rather than as a sequence with reasons is the default failure of a non-specialist.

Organic reasoning and synthesis routes

Mainly HL

Functional group interconversion, reagent and condition selection, and multi-step synthesis. Students lose marks by producing a correct product with impossible conditions. A tutor who cannot explain why a particular reagent is chosen will not fix this, and most generalists cannot.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

One investigation worth a fifth of the grade, marked against research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A tutor may teach the criteria, interrogate the research question, flag an unpropagated uncertainty and mark a draft against the descriptors. A tutor may not design it, write it or supply data.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, chosen by what the student's problem actually is rather than by preference. Chemistry divides unevenly: some of it drills, some of it needs a long run at a calculation, and the investigation needs scheduled checkpoints.

Weekly one-to-one, matched to the level

A fixed slot with the same tutor on Gulf Standard Time over live video, with the student's own written work photographed and annotated during the session. Matched to Chemistry HL or SL specifically rather than to science, which is the difference the whole of this page is about.

  • Same tutor weekly, matched to the named level
  • Mechanisms drawn live on a shared whiteboard, not described
  • Homework marked against the published scheme
  • Slots from 15:45 to 21:30 Gulf Standard Time

Calculation drill blocks

Short, frequent sessions on the quantitative spine of the course: moles, limiting reagents, yield, energy cycles, equilibrium expressions and pH. These are the marks most reliably recovered by repetition rather than explanation, and they respond better to three short sessions a week than to one long one.

  • Twenty to thirty questions a session, marked immediately
  • Sign conventions in energy cycles drilled until automatic
  • Units and unrounded intermediates enforced every time
  • Ends when the error rate drops, not after a set number of weeks

Investigation checkpoints, within the honesty rules

Scheduled reviews following the four assessment criteria in order. The student chooses the question, runs the chemistry and writes every word; the tutor interrogates, flags and marks against the descriptors. Declining to do the work is the service, not a limitation of it.

  • Research question screened for measurable, meaningful variation
  • Uncertainty treatment checked before conclusions are drafted
  • Feedback against criteria A to D by letter
  • No designing, writing, data-supplying or redrafting to completion

01

What chemistry coverage really looks like from Al Qusais, including the fallback

No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is why it is worth publishing one. Tutoring supply is not uniform across levels and components. Standard Level chemistry content is widely available and easy to staff at short notice. Higher Level content is narrower. Higher Level organic mechanisms and investigation marking are narrower again, and those two are precisely what families in Al Qusais most often need by Year 13.

The distortion that distance-based searching introduces is worth naming. Al Qusais sits on the Deira side, a long way from the parts of New Dubai where most independent tutors advertise, and the evening traffic between them is the worst in the week. So a parent filtering by proximity gets a short list that is short for geographic reasons rather than because the city lacks chemistry teachers. Filtering by level and component instead produces a longer list, all of it reachable over video at the time the family actually has.

Our commitment is to state the position at the match stage. If a Higher Level specialist who has marked investigations is free in your window, you get one. If not, you are told at that point, before any payment, with three options set out: a different time slot with the right specialist, a tutor with adjacent expertise starting now while we hold the specialist slot, or a wait with a date against it. Every one of those is better for a family than a confident match that quietly is not one.

What we will not do is place a Standard Level generalist with a Higher Level student, or a biology graduate with a chemistry mechanism problem, and allow a term to pass before anybody notices. That failure is invisible for weeks - the lessons feel fine, the student is busy, nothing is obviously wrong - and it surfaces in a mock. The table below is the coverage position written out, because a disclosed limit is more useful to a parent than an implied promise.

Ten questions that reveal whether a tutor knows this chemistry course

Use these on any chemistry tutor in Dubai, including ours. They take ten minutes on a first call and they are far more informative than a list of qualifications, because each one has an answer that only somebody who has taught the current course recently can give. None of them requires you to understand chemistry yourself - you are listening for specificity and for willingness to say what they do not know.

Start with structure. Which of the six themes have you taught most recently? A tutor working from the current guide will name them as Structure and Reactivity themes; one working from older material will talk about numbered topics and options. Then: how is the course assessed? The answer should include two papers, with data-based questions inside Paper 1 and the investigation at a fifth of the grade. Then: what do you do differently for Higher Level? Depth within each theme rather than extra topics at the end is the right shape.

Move to the investigation. Have you marked a draft against the published criteria, and what band did it score? A tutor who has will immediately talk about research design and evaluation as the weak points; one who has not will talk about how good the student's writing was. Then ask what they would refuse to do on an investigation. The right answer is explicit: they will not design it, write it, supply data or rewrite it to completion, because the work must be the student's own.

Finish on teaching. How would you teach nucleophilic substitution to a student who has memorised the diagram but cannot predict a new case? Ask them to explain a first ionisation energy anomaly in words. Ask what they do about sign errors in Hess cycles. Ask what they would do in week four if nothing had shifted. And ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit - it is granted free of charge for two years, so there is no cost reason for a working tutor not to have one.

The six themes, mapped: where an Al Qusais student is most likely to be losing marks

The current chemistry guide organises everything into three Structure themes and three Reactivity themes, and the reorganisation is more than cosmetic. Structure 1 covers models of the particulate nature of matter - atomic structure, electron configuration, ionisation energy and the mole. Structure 2 covers models of bonding and structure, from ionic and covalent through intermolecular forces to shapes and, at Higher Level, hybridisation. Structure 3 covers classification of matter: periodicity, metals and non-metals, and the entry point to organic structure and spectroscopy.

Reactivity 1 asks what drives chemical reactions - enthalpy, energy cycles, and at Higher Level entropy and Gibbs energy. Reactivity 2 asks how much, how fast and how far: stoichiometry, yield, kinetics, equilibrium, and acids and bases with their quantitative treatment. Reactivity 3 asks what the mechanisms of chemical change are, covering redox, electrochemistry and organic mechanisms, with substantial Higher Level extension.

Marks cluster predictably. Sign errors in energy cycles under Reactivity 1 are the most repeatable loss on the whole course and respond to drilling rather than explanation. Justification marks under Structure 2 are lost by students who name a shape without the electron-domain reasoning. Calculation discipline under Reactivity 2 - unrounded intermediates, units carried, assumptions stated - costs marks on every paper it touches. And Reactivity 3 organic work separates students who learned mechanisms as sequences with reasons from those who learned them as pictures.

One marked paper usually identifies which of those four is the dominant problem, and it is rarely all of them. That is why we open a chemistry engagement with a diagnostic rather than with a plan, and why the written list that comes out of it is worth keeping whoever teaches afterwards. Confirm the current syllabus structure with your child's IB coordinator, who holds the published guide; we do not reproduce or supply board documents, past papers or mark schemes.

Organic chemistry: the theme that decides a Higher Level grade

  • Prediction, not reproduction: unfamiliar substrate plus reagent
  • Route planning worked backwards from the target with conditions checked
  • Conditions that destroy a group introduced earlier - the classic synthesis error
  • Clean skeletal drawing and unambiguous stereochemistry under time
  • Ask any tutor how they would teach a case the student has not seen

If an Al Qusais family is going to buy specialist rather than general chemistry tutoring, this is the theme to buy it for. Organic chemistry under Reactivity 3 is the clearest dividing line between a tutor who knows the course and one who knows chemistry, because the default non-specialist approach - present the mechanism as a diagram, have the student reproduce it - produces a student who can answer the question they have seen and nothing else.

What the examination actually rewards is prediction. Given an unfamiliar substrate and a reagent, what happens and why? That requires the student to hold three things together: what makes a site electron-rich or electron-poor, what the reagent is capable of, and what the conditions permit. A student taught the reasoning can handle a case they have never met. A student taught the picture cannot, and no amount of additional diagrams fixes it.

The second common loss is synthesis routes. Students produce a target molecule by a sequence that is chemically sensible on paper and impossible in practice, usually because a condition would destroy a functional group introduced two steps earlier. Teaching route planning as a backwards exercise from the target, with conditions checked at each step, is a specific skill and takes a handful of sessions rather than a term.

The third is nomenclature and structural drawing under time pressure. Marks lost to an ambiguous skeletal structure or a mislabelled stereocentre are not conceptual failures, and they are among the cheapest marks on the paper to recover. Together, those three - reasoning rather than recall, route planning backwards, and clean drawing under time - usually account for most of the gap between a 5 and a 7 in Higher Level chemistry for the students we see from this part of Dubai.

05

The investigation, the honesty boundary, and what this SERP is selling

A fifth of the chemistry grade is one investigation the student designs, runs and writes, marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. In chemistry specifically the most common fatal error happens before any writing: a research question whose independent variable cannot be varied meaningfully with school equipment, or whose dependent variable cannot be measured with an uncertainty small enough to reveal the relationship. Titration-based investigations fail this way constantly, and so do rate studies with no reliable way to fix temperature.

Screening the question is therefore the highest-value hour on the component, and it costs one session at the start of the process rather than a rescue in Year 13. After that, the pattern of lost marks is consistent: uncertainties recorded but never propagated into the processed results, conclusions that restate the trend without comparing it against accepted chemistry, and evaluations that list generic apologies about human error rather than identifying the limitation that actually mattered.

The boundary a tutor holds is not a technicality. Under IB academic-honesty rules the investigation must be the student's own work. A tutor may teach the criteria, interrogate the research question, explain why an uncertainty must be propagated, point out that a conclusion is unjustified, mark a draft against the descriptors and say plainly that a section is below standard. A tutor may not design the investigation, write any part of it, produce data, or redraft it to completion.

This matters because the search result you arrived from contains sellers who do otherwise. Research into this market found a provider offering completed Internal Assessments at a published price. That is an academic-integrity breach and an IB malpractice trigger, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller - potentially the loss of the diploma. We will not do it, we will say so to a student who asks, and we think a parent is entitled to know that the option exists in this market so they can recognise it.

06

What it costs, and what the cheap end of this market cannot do for chemistry

  • Qualified tutor online: roughly AED 150-300 an hour (Unitors from AED 150-200)
  • Named IB specialist: roughly AED 200-450+ (TutorChase AED 270; BartyED AED 650 premium)
  • Budget platforms: AED 33-65 an hour (Tutopiya, EdFlik), weak on HL organic and investigation marking
  • In-home in Dubai: roughly AED 180-500 an hour with travel inside the fee
  • All published by the named provider and read in October 2026

Published Dubai rates give a parent something checkable to reason from. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted across the market at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200. Named IB specialists sit higher - roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai table putting specialist exam-year support in the same region - and BartyED published AED 650 at the premium end. All figures were read in October 2026 and belong to the providers that published them.

The budget end deserves a specific warning on a chemistry page. Platforms staffed largely by university students advertise from the low double digits: Tutopiya from around AED 33 to 52 an hour, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. For IGCSE chemistry revision or Structure 1 content that can be reasonable value. For Higher Level organic mechanisms, or for marking an investigation against descriptors, it generally is not, because those are not things a capable chemistry undergraduate has necessarily done.

In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel, with Bestimate showing AED 180 to 350 and independent tutors asking AED 200 to 500. The structural problem for an Al Qusais family is not the rate but what the rate implies about choice: at that price, the tutor has to be someone willing to drive to Al Qusais in the evening peak, and that constraint has nothing to do with whether they know Reactivity 3.

None of these are our prices and we publish no rate card on these pages, because the honest number depends on the level, the component and the weeks remaining. The free trial lesson is one lesson with the matched tutor, fee discussed afterwards. For chemistry we would spend that lesson on a mechanism the student has not seen or a draft section of the investigation, because that is where the difference between a specialist and a generalist becomes visible in twenty minutes.

07

Verification: permits, the own-teacher boundary, and what the regulator does

Private tutoring in the UAE is permit-regulated, and a parent in Al Qusais is entitled to ask about it before paying anybody. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published - Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties - so treat any figure circulating online as unverified. A tutor who becomes evasive on this question has given you useful information at no cost.

There is a second boundary that families sometimes walk into innocently. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct has been reported as barring the same arrangement. Verify the current wording against the authority's own policy document, but the principle holds across the Emirates: paying your child's own classroom teacher privately is the wrong arrangement however convenient it looks.

Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific authorisation with initial approval, a completion window and annual renewal. IB Gram holds no such permit and no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We describe what these bodies do; we do not claim their endorsement.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Qusais

Supply, commute and cohort size all differ across this part of Dubai. Here is what each neighbourhood near Al Qusais changes about the practical answer.

Al Qusais 1 and 2

Dense and well connected by the Green Line, but a long way from where most freelance science tutors advertise. Distance-based searching from here returns the fewest Diploma-level chemistry results of any Dubai neighbourhood we work with.

Al Qusais 3

Nearest the Sharjah approach, where the evening traffic peak makes an in-home chemistry visit the least reliable arrangement in the cluster. Evening online slots from 19:45 hold far better through a term.

Al Nahda

Split by the Dubai-Sharjah boundary, so one household answers to KHDA and a neighbouring one to Sharjah's authority. Families here routinely compare schools across two regulatory systems when choosing where chemistry is taught well.

Al Mamzar

Home to an established Diploma cohort and the source of most Higher Level chemistry requests in this catchment. Requests here tend to arrive in Year 12 term two, around the point the investigation becomes real.

Al Garhoud and Festival City

Where several of the area's Diploma chemistry classes actually sit. Long school days with co-curricular commitments push sessions past 19:30 on school nights more often than elsewhere in the cluster.

Oud Metha and Bur Dubai

Cambridge-heavy, and the main feeder of students arriving into Diploma chemistry from 0620 or Coordinated Sciences 0654. The first request from here is almost always quantitative reasoning rather than content recall.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Qusais

Al Mamzar, Al Garhoud and Festival City

The Diploma chemistry cohorts nearest Al Qusais. Because these classes are often small, a student's experience of the subject depends heavily on one teacher, which is a large part of why families here look for outside support in the first place.

  • Al Ittihad Private School, Al Mamzar
  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School, Dubai
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Oud Metha

Indian-curriculum and British-track schools running IGCSE sciences to sixteen. This is where most of the cluster's future Diploma chemists are now, and where a bridging conversation in Year 11 would save a term of Year 12 remediation.

  • The Westminster School, Dubai
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • The Millennium School, Dubai
  • St Mary's Catholic High School, Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level and the component

Chemistry HL or SL, the school, the year group, the latest grade, and which part is actually the problem: content, calculations, organic mechanisms or the investigation. Those four need different tutors, and naming yours shortens the match considerably.

  2. 02

Hear the availability position before you pay

If a specialist who has marked investigations is free in your window, you get one. If not, you are told at the match stage with three options: a different slot with the right person, adjacent expertise now, or a wait with a date against it.

  3. 03

Test the tutor in the free trial lesson

One lesson, one tutor, fee discussed afterwards. Use the ten questions on this page, and ask the tutor to work a mechanism your child has not met. Twenty minutes of that tells you more than any profile or qualification list.

  4. 04

Start with a diagnostic, keep the written list

The first paid session marks a paper against the published scheme and produces a short written list of named weaknesses. You keep it whether you continue with us, switch tutor or stop, and it is what every later session is measured against.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Coverage limits published, not implied

No competing page in this market discloses what it cannot staff. We publish the chemistry coverage position, the usual match time and the fallback, because a disclosed wait with a date costs an Al Qusais family less than a confident mismatch discovered in February.

Matched to the level, never to 'science'

A biology graduate can explain bonding and still mis-teach a nucleophilic substitution. We match on Chemistry HL or SL and on the component in question, and we would rather tell you to wait than fill the slot with someone adjacent.

You get the test questions

The ten questions on this page work on any chemistry tutor in Dubai, ours included. A page that hands a parent the means to audit it is doing something different from one that asks for trust.

A firm line on the investigation

We teach the four criteria, interrogate research questions and mark against descriptors. We do not design, write, supply data or redraft to completion. Sellers in this search result offer completed Internal Assessments, and the risk of that falls on the student.

Checkable figures only

Every AED band here belongs to the provider that published it and carries the date it was read. We publish no success rate, star rating or student count, because none of those could be produced on request and a number you cannot verify is worth nothing to you.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Qusais: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB chemistry tutor near Al Qusais who knows the current course?+

Searching by distance from Al Qusais returns a short list, and it is short for geographic reasons rather than because Dubai lacks chemistry teachers. This neighbourhood sits a long way from where most independent tutors advertise, with the worst evening traffic in the week between the two. Matching by level and component instead opens the whole Gulf evening. Standard Level content is comfortably staffed; Higher Level organic mechanisms and investigation marking are genuinely scarce, and we state which applies to your request before anything is paid.

How can I tell whether a chemistry tutor really knows the IB syllabus?+

Ask three things. Which of the six themes have you taught most recently - a current tutor names Structure and Reactivity themes rather than numbered topics. How is the course assessed - two papers, with data-based questions inside Paper 1 and the investigation at a fifth of the grade. Have you marked a draft investigation against the published criteria, and what band did it score - someone who has will name research design and evaluation as the weak points, while someone who has not will praise the student's writing instead.

What actually changed in IB chemistry, and why does it matter for tutoring?+

The current guide, whose first examinations fell in 2025, reorganised the syllabus into three Structure themes and three Reactivity themes in place of the older numbered topic list, and restructured the assessment into two papers with data-based questions inside Paper 1. Most online notes, revision sites and second-hand resources still follow the superseded structure. A tutor can therefore teach sound chemistry while navigating by the wrong assessment map, which costs marks in a way that stays invisible until a mock paper arrives.

Which part of IB chemistry is hardest to find a good tutor for?+

Higher Level organic mechanisms under Reactivity 3, followed by investigation marking against the published descriptors. Both require someone who has taught the course rather than someone who studied chemistry, and both are what families in this part of Dubai most often need by Year 13. Standard Level content and bridging work from IGCSE 0620 or Coordinated Sciences 0654 are comfortably available at short notice. If your request falls in the scarce category we say so at the match stage, with the alternatives and a date.

My child memorises organic mechanisms but cannot answer unfamiliar questions. Can that be fixed?+

Yes, and it is the clearest sign the previous teaching treated mechanisms as diagrams rather than as sequences with reasons. The examination rewards prediction: given an unfamiliar substrate and a reagent, what happens and why. That requires holding three things together - what makes a site electron-rich or electron-poor, what the reagent can do, and what the conditions permit. Taught that way, a student handles cases they have never met. It usually takes a handful of sessions rather than a term, and it is worth buying a specialist for.

What is the most common reason a chemistry investigation scores badly?+

A research question that cannot produce usable data, chosen before anyone checked. If the independent variable cannot be varied meaningfully with school equipment, or the dependent variable cannot be measured with a small enough uncertainty to reveal the relationship, no amount of good writing recovers it. Titration-based studies and rate studies with no reliable temperature control fail this way constantly. Screening the question in one session at the start of the process is the highest-value hour on the entire component.

Can a tutor legally help with my child's chemistry Internal Assessment?+

A tutor may teach the four assessment criteria, interrogate the research question before any data is collected, explain why an uncertainty must be propagated into the processed results, point out that a conclusion is not justified by the data, mark a draft against the published descriptors and say plainly that a section is below standard. A tutor may not design the investigation, write any part of it, produce data or rewrite it to completion. The work must be the student's own under IB academic-honesty rules, and a breach puts the student's diploma at risk.

Some Dubai providers offer finished Internal Assessments. Why not use one?+

Because the consequence lands on your child rather than on the seller. Research into this market found a provider publishing a price for completed Internal Assessments. Submitting work that is not the student's own is an academic-integrity breach under IB rules and a malpractice trigger, with outcomes that can include the loss of the diploma. The fact that it is openly for sale in this search result does not make it survivable. We will not provide it, and we tell students who ask exactly why.

What should an Al Qusais family expect to pay for IB chemistry support?+

Published Dubai market rates, read in October 2026: a qualified subject tutor online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IB tuition from AED 200. Named IB specialists run roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel. Those belong to the providers that published them; we quote against level, component and weeks remaining rather than from a rate card.

Is a budget online chemistry tutor ever the right choice?+

For some things, yes. Platforms staffed largely by university students advertise from around AED 33 to 65 an hour, and for IGCSE revision, Structure 1 content or supervised practice that can be sensible value. For Higher Level organic mechanisms or for marking an investigation against descriptors it generally is not, because a capable chemistry undergraduate has not necessarily done either. Spend the budget band on volume and the specialist band on the two or three things that actually decide the grade, rather than averaging across everything.

We came from Coordinated Sciences rather than separate chemistry. Is Higher Level realistic?+

Usually yes, with the gap named at the start rather than discovered in November. A Coordinated Sciences student has met less chemistry content and fewer practicals than one who sat 0620 or 4CH1 separately, so the bridging job is larger but still a defined size - typically mechanism-level organic reasoning, quantitative work with uncertainty, and the written justification the Diploma expects. The summer before Year 12 is the right window for it. Tell us which route your child took in the first message and we plan against it.

What happens if no Higher Level chemistry specialist is free in our slot?+

You hear it at the match stage, before any payment, with three options set out. A different time slot with the right specialist, which usually means moving an hour earlier or later in the Gulf evening. A tutor with adjacent expertise starting now while we hold the specialist slot for you. Or a wait with a date attached, so you can decide rather than guess. Demand concentrates in the same two evening hours and fills before mocks and around investigation deadlines, so the honest answer is sometimes a wait.

Do you provide in-home chemistry tutoring in Al Qusais or anywhere in Dubai?+

No. Every UAE lesson we arrange is one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we operate only in India. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the Emirates. The Dubai market does supply in-home chemistry tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the fee. The trade-off worth seeing clearly is that at that price the tutor must be someone willing to drive to Al Qusais in the evening peak, which has nothing to do with whether they know Reactivity 3.

Should I ask a chemistry tutor in Dubai about their tutoring permit?+

Yes, and the answer should be straightforward. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with a two-working-day completion time through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Because it costs nothing, a working tutor has no financial reason to be without one. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so disregard any specific amount you see quoted online.

Ask the ten questions, then decide

If you are looking for an IB chemistry tutor in Al Qusais, the useful next step is not a longer shortlist.
