IB Physics Tutor in Al Qusais

An IB physics tutor in Al Qusais has a scheduling problem the maths tutor does not. Physics work arrives as write-ups, uncertainty tables and multi-stage problems that need an unbroken ninety minutes, and those land late in the school week. IB Gram teaches physics one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the long block can sit where the family actually has it.

  • Sessions run over live video; no tutor is sent to a UAE address
  • Matched to Physics HL or SL under the current IB guide
  • Ninety-minute blocks available, not just the standard hour
  • Scientific investigation support inside IB honesty rules

IB & IGCSE in Al Qusais

Physics homework is not homework, and that changes the timetable

A maths problem set can be broken into ten-minute pieces. A physics task usually cannot. A data-analysis exercise with uncertainties propagated through three stages, a graph that has to be linearised before the gradient means anything, or a write-up of a practical done on Tuesday in a school lab near Al Garhoud - each of those needs a single unbroken run at it. Al Qusais families discover this in Year 12 when a child who manages maths homework between 16:00 and 17:00 sits down to physics at 20:30 and is still there at 22:15.

That is why the school run matters more on this page than on any other subject page for this neighbourhood. Private schools across Al Qusais, Al Nahda, Al Mamzar and Al Garhoud finish the academic day between roughly 14:30 and 15:15, and bus loops along Damascus Street and Al Nahda Road put most students home between 15:00 and 15:45. The mandatory UAE subjects - Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies, required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum - take their share of the evening. What is left on a school night is one short window and one long one, and physics needs the long one.

There is a second timing pattern specific to the subject. Lab work is timetabled, so practical write-ups cluster. In most schools around Al Qusais the physics practical falls mid-week and the write-up is due within a few days, which means Wednesday and Thursday evenings carry a different kind of work from Monday's problem set. A tutoring slot pinned to Monday at 16:00 because that was the first thing available will spend a term handling the wrong task on the wrong night.

The content underneath all this changed recently, and it matters for who you hire. The current IB physics guide organises the course into five themes - space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; nuclear and quantum physics - rather than into the older numbered topics, and the assessment shifted to two papers with the data-based questions moved into Paper 1. A tutor working from pre-2023 material will teach competent physics against the wrong assessment map, which costs marks in a way that is almost invisible until a mock paper arrives.

IB Gram delivers physics to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For physics specifically the online format has a practical advantage beyond the obvious one: a shared screen handles a spreadsheet of raw readings, an uncertainty calculation and a linearised graph far better than two people sharing one exercise book, and a ninety-minute block costs nothing in travel at either end of it.

At a glance

  • Physics tasks need unbroken blocks; a 45-minute slot rarely finishes one
  • Practical write-ups cluster mid-week in most schools around Al Qusais
  • The current guide runs five themes, A to E, not the older numbered topics
  • Data-based questions now sit inside Paper 1 alongside multiple choice
  • The scientific investigation is 20% of the grade and marked out of 24
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics help is asked for at three distinct moments in a Dubai school career, and each one needs a different length of session at a different time of day. Here is what the programmes demand of the week.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Two levels over two years, assessed through two written papers and one scientific investigation. The current guide runs five themes shared by both levels, with Higher Level adding additional content within each theme rather than a separate topic list. Paper 1 combines multiple-choice questions with a data-based section; Paper 2 carries short-answer and extended-response questions worth the larger share of the grade.

Not every school within reach of Al Qusais offers Physics at Higher Level, and some run it only where numbers allow. If HL Physics is the plan for a Dubai university application or an engineering route abroad, confirm with the IB coordinator before Year 11 choices close that the course will actually be timetabled for your child's cohort.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences, the preparation that decides Year 12

Marked against four criteria out of eight each: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Criterion C, processing and evaluating, is the direct ancestor of the Diploma scientific investigation, and a student who sat in the 3-4 band on it in Year 10 will struggle with the Diploma version without specific help.

MYP science criterion scores are the most useful thing an Al Qusais parent can hand a physics tutor, and the least often sent. The overall 1-7 hides which of the four criteria is weak, and a student weak on C needs a different term of work from one weak on A.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the route in

Most students entering Diploma Physics around Al Qusais arrive from Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 rather than from MYP. Both cover mechanics, waves, electricity and radioactivity to a level the Diploma assumes, and neither prepares a student for the uncertainty treatment, graph linearisation and extended written reasoning the Diploma expects from the first term.

Cambridge 0625 students in Dubai sit either a practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper depending on the centre's arrangements. Which one your child sat tells a tutor a great deal about how much hands-on data handling they have actually done, so it is worth checking the paper numbers on the timetable.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Families search for an IB physics tutor in Al Qusais and then describe one of a small number of specific problems. These are the ones that come up most, and the session length each one genuinely needs.

Space, time and motion

HL and SL, theme A

Kinematics, forces, momentum, work and energy, with circular motion and gravitation extending at Higher Level. The usual failure is not the physics but the vector work: components taken on the wrong axis, or a free-body diagram drawn with a force that does not exist. Fixable in a few focused sessions and worth marks across every paper.

The particulate nature of matter

HL and SL, theme B

Thermal physics, the gas laws, internal energy and entropy, with greater depth at Higher Level. Students lose marks by treating temperature and heat as interchangeable and by quoting relationships without stating the conditions under which they hold. A ninety-minute block is enough to repair both habits.

Wave behaviour

HL and SL, theme C

Simple harmonic motion, wave characteristics, superposition, standing waves, the Doppler effect and diffraction, with additional depth at Higher Level. The phase relationships are where understanding either forms or does not, and they are far easier to teach on a shared screen with an animated graph than on paper.

Fields

HL and SL, theme D

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields treated together, with potential and field strength at Higher Level. The conceptual trap is sign conventions, and the mathematical trap is inverse-square reasoning applied to the wrong quantity. Both show up as consistent, diagnosable mark losses in Paper 2.

Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL, theme E

Radioactive decay, nuclear binding, fission and fusion, the photoelectric effect and matter waves, extended considerably at Higher Level. This theme is often taught last and revised least, which makes it one of the more reliable places to recover marks in the final term.

Paper 1B: data-based questions

HL and SL

Reading a table of raw data, identifying the uncertainty, choosing what to plot, linearising, drawing a best-fit line and extracting a physical quantity from the gradient. A separate skill from the physics content and the single most trainable component on the course. It deserves its own sessions rather than a corner of somebody else's.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

One investigation worth a fifth of the grade, marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A tutor may teach the criteria, question a method, point out that an uncertainty has not been propagated and mark a draft against the descriptors. A tutor may not design it, write it or produce the data.

Mathematics for physics

HL and SL

Rearranging multi-variable relationships, logarithms for exponential decay, small-angle approximations, trigonometry in resolving, and gradients that carry units. Students taking Applications and Interpretation rather than Analysis and Approaches often need this stream explicitly, and it is usually the fastest route to a better Paper 2.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Physics is one of the few subjects where the length of the session changes what can be achieved in it. These three formats exist because the tasks genuinely differ.

The ninety-minute block

One longer session a week rather than two short ones, used for data analysis, a full Paper 2 question set, or a stage of the scientific investigation. Nothing has to be abandoned half-finished and picked up a week later, which is where most of the value in a physics session is lost. Delivered over live video with a shared screen for spreadsheets and graphs.

  • Long enough to finish a linearisation and interpret the gradient
  • Fits Saturday morning or a 19:45 weekday start
  • Raw data handled on a shared spreadsheet, not described verbally
  • Written work photographed and annotated during the session

Short mid-week correction slots

A 45 to 60 minute slot timed against the night the school sets physics, used to correct the previous piece and unblock the current one. This is the slot that has to move when the school timetable moves, and the reason we ask which night physics homework actually lands rather than assuming Monday.

  • Pinned to the night physics work is set, not to a default day
  • Previous week's marked work opens every session
  • Good for unblocking, poor for new content
  • Usually 15:45-16:45 or 20:00-21:00 Gulf Standard Time

Investigation checkpoints, within the honesty rules

Scheduled reviews across Year 12 following the four assessment criteria in order: research design, data analysis, conclusion, evaluation. The student designs the investigation, collects the data and writes every word. A tutor questions the method, flags an unpropagated uncertainty, marks against the descriptors and declines to do the work.

  • Research question screened for measurability before any data is taken
  • Feedback given against criteria A to D by letter
  • No designing, writing or producing of data on the student's behalf
  • Checkpoints set against the school's internal deadlines

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Qusais

01

The physics week in Al Qusais: which night carries which kind of work

Pin the tutoring slot to the subject's rhythm rather than to the first gap in a calendar. In most schools around this part of Dubai the physics practical is timetabled once a week or once a fortnight, and the write-up is due within a few days of it. That creates a predictable shape: a problem set early in the week, a practical mid-week, a write-up due late in the week, and a weekend that is either the best study block of the seven days or a complete loss depending on whether anybody planned it.

Against that, the household constraints are fixed. School ends between roughly 14:30 and 15:15, buses reach Al Qusais between 15:00 and 15:45, and the mandatory UAE subjects set work of their own. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time using a 40-minute lesson unit and permits schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, which in practice means the evening is fuller than parents expect. Realistically there is one short weekday window around 15:45 to 17:00 and one evening window around 19:30 to 21:15.

Physics does not fit the short window well. Ninety minutes is the unit in which an uncertainty-propagated data set, a linearised graph and an interpretation of the gradient can be completed in one run. Forty-five minutes produces half a graph and a note to continue, and the continuation never has the same momentum. So the sensible arrangement for most Al Qusais families is one long block at the weekend or in a late evening slot, plus a short correction slot pinned to the night the school actually sets physics.

An in-home tutor can do none of this flexibly. A ninety-minute evening block means a tutor driving into Al Qusais at 19:15 and leaving at 21:30, and the published Dubai in-home range of roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel reflects exactly that. Online delivery makes the long block cheap to schedule and cheap to move, which is the whole practical argument for it on a physics page rather than a general one.

The current physics guide: five themes and two papers, mapped

The course your child sits is organised differently from the one most online notes describe, and that gap is the single most common reason a competent tutor underperforms in physics. The current guide, whose first examinations fell in 2025, runs five themes rather than a numbered topic list: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Higher Level adds depth inside each theme rather than appending separate options at the end.

The assessment changed with it. There are two written papers. Paper 1 carries multiple-choice questions and a data-based section, bringing data analysis into a timed written paper rather than leaving it to the practical scheme. Paper 2 carries short-answer and extended-response questions and is the heavier of the two by weighting. The internal assessment is a single scientific investigation worth a fifth of the final grade, marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation.

For a tutoring plan, the practical consequence is that data handling is no longer optional. A student who has been taught the content well and has never practised reading a table of raw values, deciding what to plot, linearising a relationship and extracting a quantity from a gradient will lose a consistent block of marks in Paper 1 with no obvious content weakness to blame. That pattern is diagnosable from one marked paper and repairable in a handful of targeted sessions.

Verify the specifics against your child's own course outline and the IB's published guide rather than against any restatement, including this one. Schools confirm which guide a cohort is sitting and the IB coordinator is the right person to ask. We do not reproduce or supply IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables - those are the board's copyright and should be reached through the school or the IB's own site.

The scientific investigation, criterion by criterion, and the line a tutor holds

  • A - Research design: 6 marks, question, variables, method
  • B - Data analysis: 6 marks, raw data, uncertainties, processing
  • C - Conclusion: 6 marks, justified answer compared with accepted physics
  • D - Evaluation: 6 marks, real limitations and realistic improvements
  • Screen the research question first; nothing downstream fixes a bad one

A fifth of the physics grade comes from one investigation the student designs, runs and writes. It is marked out of 24 across four criteria worth six marks each, and knowing which is which changes how a Year 12 spends their time. Research design asks for a focused research question, an identified independent and dependent variable, controlled variables and a method capable of producing data that answers the question. Data analysis asks for raw data recorded properly, uncertainties stated and propagated, and processing that is correct and clearly presented.

Conclusion asks for an answer to the research question justified by the processed data and compared against accepted physics. Evaluation asks for the method's real limitations and realistic improvements - not a list of generic apologies about human error, which is the most common way students lose marks on this criterion. Across the drafts we see from Dubai schools, data analysis and evaluation are where marks are most often left behind, and both are teachable without touching the student's own work.

The most expensive mistake is upstream of all four criteria: a research question that cannot produce usable data. If the independent variable cannot be varied over a meaningful range with the equipment available, or the dependent variable cannot be measured with an uncertainty small enough to show the relationship, no amount of good writing recovers it. Screening the question in one session at the start of the process is the highest-value hour on the whole component.

The boundary is firm. Under IB academic-honesty rules the investigation must be the student's own work. A tutor may teach the criteria, interrogate a research question, point out that an uncertainty has not been propagated, explain why a graph should be linearised, mark a draft against the descriptors and say plainly that a section is below standard. A tutor may not design the investigation, write any part of it, supply data or redraft it to completion. This search result contains sellers who offer finished Internal Assessments; buying one puts the student's diploma at risk, and we will not do it.

04

The maths a physics student needs, and when the maths course causes trouble

Physics marks are lost to mathematics more often than to physics. The specific skills are few and identifiable: rearranging a multi-variable relationship without error, using logarithms to handle exponential decay, applying small-angle approximations where the syllabus permits them, resolving vectors with trigonometry, and reading a gradient that carries units rather than a bare number. None of that is advanced. All of it has to be automatic under time pressure, and for many students it is not.

The Diploma maths course a student takes changes the risk. Analysis and Approaches builds the algebraic fluency physics assumes, with calculus at its centre and a non-calculator paper that forces manipulation to be secure. Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics led, with a calculator available throughout, and a student taking AI alongside Physics HL frequently needs a deliberate maths-for-physics stream rather than hoping the overlap covers it.

This matters for Al Qusais families in a concrete way, because subject blocks are set by the school and a student may not have had a free choice. If your child is taking Physics HL with AI SL, that combination is workable and it needs the maths gap named rather than discovered in February. Three or four sessions on rearrangement, logarithms and gradient interpretation early in Year 12 is cheaper than a term of physics tutoring that keeps stalling on algebra.

The same applies on the way in. Students arriving into Diploma physics from Cambridge IGCSE 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 have met mechanics, waves, electricity and radioactivity, but not uncertainty propagation or graph linearisation at Diploma depth. That is a bridging job best done in the summer before Year 12, when there is a long uninterrupted block and nothing competing for it - the single most wasted window in the whole two-year programme.

What physics tutoring costs around Al Qusais, and why the long block changes the sum

  • Qualified tutor online: roughly AED 150-300 an hour (Unitors from AED 150-200)
  • Named IB specialist: roughly AED 200-450+ (TutorChase AED 270; Bestimate)
  • In-home in Dubai: roughly AED 180-500 an hour, travel inside the fee
  • Budget platforms: AED 33-65 an hour, rarely investigation-literate
  • All figures published by the named provider and read in October 2026

Published Dubai rates are the right starting point because they are checkable, and the useful comparison on a physics page is per block rather than per hour. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted across the Dubai market at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB tuition from AED 200. Named IB specialists sit higher: TutorChase published AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai table puts specialist exam-year support at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with BartyED at AED 650 for premium named tutors.

At the budget end, platforms staffed largely by university students advertise from the low double digits - Tutopiya from around AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, both read in October 2026. For physics that band carries a particular risk: the content can be explained competently by someone who has never marked an investigation against the four criteria or practised a Paper 1B data set under time. Those are the two things that most reliably move a physics grade, and they are not general tutoring skills.

In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel, with Bestimate showing AED 180 to 350 and independent tutors asking AED 200 to 500. Translate that into the ninety-minute block physics actually needs and the arithmetic becomes stark: a single long in-home session reaches the upper hundreds before any discussion of quality, and the published monthly packages - around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits against about AED 799 for eight online sessions - tell the same story from the other direction.

None of these are IB Gram prices. They are other providers' published figures, attributed and read in October 2026, and we quote against the level, the component and the weeks remaining rather than from a table. The free trial lesson is one lesson with the matched tutor, with the fee discussed afterwards - and for physics we would use that trial on a real data-based question rather than on a conversation, because that is where you learn whether the tutor can teach the subject or only describe it.

KHDA, the regulator map, and what a school report does not tell you about physics

Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects on a published six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak, and the rating applies to the school rather than to a department inside it. For a parent in Al Qusais choosing between two schools on the strength of physics specifically, a more useful question is whether Physics is actually timetabled at Higher Level for the coming cohort, and how many students took it last year.

The regulator map is worth knowing because this catchment touches a border. Dubai sits with KHDA; Sharjah's private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which u.ae states regulates private education in the emirate and which, along with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education. A family in Al Nahda can cross systems by crossing a street.

Two KHDA requirements shape the week a physics plan has to fit into. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with the requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes are strictly prohibited due to different curriculum expectations and language of instruction.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, the IB, Cambridge, Pearson or any other body named on this page, and nothing here should be read as implying one. We describe what these organisations do because a parent weighing a tutoring decision in Dubai needs that context and almost no competing page provides it. Confirm anything that affects a real decision with the school, the regulator's own site, or the IB coordinator.

07

Getting started, and what we say when no HL physics specialist is free

The first message should contain five things: the school, the level - Physics HL or SL - the year group, the most recent grade or MYP criterion scores, and the night of the week the school actually sets physics. That last item is the one nobody sends and the one that decides whether the slot survives the term. Add which Diploma maths course your child takes, because that changes whether a maths-for-physics stream is needed alongside.

We match on the level and the component rather than on the subject name. A student whose problem is Paper 1B data handling needs a different tutor hour from one whose problem is theme D conceptual depth, and both are different again from a student three weeks from an investigation deadline. The first lesson is a free trial with the matched tutor - one lesson, one tutor, fee discussed afterwards - and for physics we would spend it on a real data-based question rather than on introductions.

Availability is where most providers go quiet, so here is the position stated plainly. Higher Level physics specialists are the scarcest match in this subject and demand concentrates in the same two evening hours across the Gulf. Before mocks and in the weeks around investigation deadlines, those hours fill. If nobody suitable is free in your window, you are told at the match stage, with the options: a different slot with the right specialist, an adjacent-expertise tutor now, or a wait with a date against it. We will not put an SL generalist in front of an HL student and let a family find out in February.

Delivery is online, one-to-one, over live video, for every family in the UAE. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the Emirates and no tutor is sent to a UAE address; home visits are a service we run only in India. Private tutoring here is permit-regulated - the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years - so ask any tutor you consider, including ours, whether they hold it.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Qusais

The school day and the commute differ across this cluster, and so does the slot that works. Here is the practical picture neighbourhood by neighbourhood.

Al Qusais 1 and 2

Short bus loops and arrival home between roughly 15:00 and 15:45. A 16:00 start works for a short review block, but the ninety-minute physics block generally has to sit in the evening or at the weekend.

Al Qusais 3

Closest to the Sharjah approach and most exposed to the Al Ittihad Road evening peak. Families here lose late-afternoon slots to traffic more often than anywhere else in the cluster, which pushes physics to 20:00 or to Saturday morning.

Al Nahda

Divided by the Dubai-Sharjah boundary, so households a street apart answer to different regulators. Students crossing the border to school have the longest and least predictable commute in this catchment, and need the weekend block more than the weekday one.

Al Mamzar

Home to an established Diploma cohort, and the source of most Higher Level physics requests from this area. Students here more often need theme D and theme E depth than general catch-up, and ask for the investigation earlier in Year 12.

Al Garhoud and Festival City

Where several of the cluster's Diploma physics cohorts actually sit. The longest school day once co-curricular commitments are counted, which regularly pushes a physics session past 19:30 on school nights.

Oud Metha and Bur Dubai

Cambridge-heavy and the main feeder for students arriving into Diploma physics from 0625. The common first request from here is uncertainty treatment and graph work rather than content, because the IGCSE course did not demand either at Diploma depth.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Qusais

Al Mamzar, Al Garhoud and Festival City

The Diploma physics cohorts nearest Al Qusais sit mainly here, which is why a family in Al Qusais 2 often has a child commuting ten to twenty minutes each morning. Practical sessions in these schools tend to fall mid-week, so write-ups cluster on Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Al Ittihad Private School, Al Mamzar
  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School, Dubai
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Oud Metha

Mostly Indian-curriculum and British-track schools running IGCSE sciences at sixteen. This is where Diploma physics students come from rather than where they sit the course, and it is the source of most bridging requests on uncertainty and graph work.

  • The Westminster School, Dubai
  • Dubai Scholars Private School

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and the physics night

Physics HL or SL, the school, the year group, the latest grade, and which night of the week physics work is actually set. The last of those is what makes a slot survive past week three, and it is almost never in a first enquiry.

  2. 02

Say which maths course your child takes

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at which level. A Physics HL student taking AI SL usually needs a short maths-for-physics stream, and naming it at the start is cheaper than discovering it in February.

  3. 03

Use the free trial on a real data question

One lesson with the matched tutor, no fee agreed in advance. We would spend it on a Paper 1B style data set rather than on a conversation, because handling raw data and uncertainty live is the fastest way to see whether a tutor can teach physics or only describe it.

Book the long block, then the correction slot

A ninety-minute weekend or late-evening block for data, graphs and Paper 2 work, plus a shorter slot pinned to the night physics homework lands. That shape fits the Al Qusais week better than two identical hours placed wherever a calendar was empty.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The session is as long as the task

Physics work does not divide into forty-five minute pieces. A ninety-minute block finishes an uncertainty-propagated data set, a linearisation and an interpretation in one run, and online delivery makes that block cheap to schedule rather than a two-and-a-half hour commitment for a tutor.

Matched to the current guide

The course runs five themes with data-based questions inside Paper 1. A tutor working from pre-2023 material teaches competent physics against the wrong assessment map, and the cost is invisible until a mock arrives. We ask tutors which themes they have taught most recently.

Data handling treated as its own subject

Reading raw values, stating uncertainty, choosing what to plot, linearising and extracting a quantity from a gradient is the most trainable component on the course and the one most often left to chance. It gets its own sessions here rather than a corner of someone else's.

Honesty on the investigation

We teach the four criteria, interrogate a research question and mark drafts against the descriptors. We do not design investigations, write them or supply data. Sellers in this search result offer completed Internal Assessments; under IB rules the risk of that falls on the student.

Availability disclosed at the match stage

Higher Level physics is the scarcest match in this subject and the evening hours fill before mocks. If nobody suitable is free in your window you are told then, with the alternatives and a date, rather than after a payment has been taken.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Qusais: your questions answered

How long should an IB physics session be for a student in Al Qusais?+

Ninety minutes for the main weekly session, with a shorter slot mid-week if the budget allows. Physics tasks do not divide neatly: an uncertainty-propagated data set, a linearised graph and an interpretation of the gradient need one unbroken run, and a forty-five minute session produces half of that plus a note to continue. Because school days here end between roughly 14:30 and 15:15 and buses reach Al Qusais by 15:45, the long block usually sits at the weekend or from about 19:45 on a school night. Online delivery makes that easy to schedule.

Which night of the week should we book physics tutoring on?+

The night after the school sets physics work, not the first free slot in the calendar. In most schools within reach of Al Qusais the practical is timetabled mid-week and the write-up is due a few days later, so Monday carries a problem set and Wednesday or Thursday carries a write-up. Those need different kinds of help. Tell us which night the work actually lands and we pin the slot to it. Families who book Monday at 16:00 because it was available spend a term handling the wrong task.

What changed in IB physics, and does it affect which tutor we need?+

Yes, materially. The current guide, whose first examinations fell in 2025, organises the course into five themes - space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; nuclear and quantum physics - rather than numbered topics, and moved data-based questions into Paper 1 alongside multiple choice. A tutor working from older notes teaches sound physics against the wrong assessment map, which costs marks invisibly until a mock. Ask any physics tutor which themes they have taught most recently and whether they have marked a Paper 1B data section.

What are the four criteria on the IB physics investigation worth, mark by mark?+

Out of 24, across four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. It carries a fifth of the final grade. Research design covers the question, the variables and a method capable of answering it; data analysis covers raw data, uncertainties and processing; conclusion covers a justified answer compared with accepted physics; evaluation covers real limitations and realistic improvements rather than generic remarks about human error. Confirm current requirements with your child's IB coordinator, who holds the published guide - we do not reproduce board documents.

Can a tutor help my child with the physics investigation without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may teach the four criteria, interrogate the research question before any data is taken, explain why a relationship should be linearised, point out an uncertainty that has not been propagated, mark a draft against the descriptors and state that a section is below standard. A tutor may not design the investigation, write any part of it, supply data or rewrite it to completion. The work must be the student's own under IB academic-honesty rules, and the consequence of a breach falls on the student, not the seller.

My child takes Physics HL with Maths Applications and Interpretation. Is that a problem?+

It is workable and it needs the maths gap named early rather than discovered in February. Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics led with a calculator available throughout, so a student may not have the automatic algebraic rearrangement, logarithm handling and gradient interpretation that Physics HL assumes. Three or four focused sessions on those specific skills in the first term of Year 12 costs far less than a term of physics tutoring that keeps stalling on algebra. Say which maths course your child takes in your first message.

We came from Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625. What is the gap into the Diploma?+

Content coverage is mostly fine - mechanics, waves, electricity and radioactivity are all there. The gap is in treatment. Diploma physics expects uncertainty stated and propagated, graphs linearised before a gradient is interpreted, and extended written reasoning that justifies rather than asserts. IGCSE rarely demands any of those at Diploma depth. It is a bridging job of perhaps eight to twelve hours, best done in the summer before Year 12 when there is a long uninterrupted block, which is the most wasted window in the whole two-year programme.

What does physics tutoring cost around Al Qusais?+

Published Dubai market rates, read in October 2026: a qualified subject tutor online is quoted at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named IB specialists run roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour inclusive of travel. Those belong to the providers that published them; we quote against the level, the component and the weeks remaining.

Why is Paper 1B worth separate practice?+

Because it tests a different skill from the rest of the course and almost nobody practises it deliberately. The data-based section gives raw values and asks a student to identify the uncertainty, decide what to plot, linearise where necessary, draw a best-fit line and extract a physical quantity with units from the gradient. A student strong on content and untrained on this loses a consistent block of marks with no obvious topic to blame. It is diagnosable from one marked paper and repairable in a handful of targeted sessions.

Is online physics tutoring workable when so much of the subject is practical?+

The practical work itself happens in the school lab and always will. What a tutor does with it is handle the data, the uncertainty, the graph and the write-up structure, and all of that transfers better to a shared screen than to two people over one exercise book. A spreadsheet of raw readings, a linearised plot and an annotated draft are easier to work on jointly online than in person. What online cannot do is run the experiment, which is why we ask what the school's practical scheme covers before planning.

Which schools near Al Qusais actually run Diploma physics?+

The Diploma cohorts closest to this neighbourhood sit mainly in Al Mamzar, Al Garhoud and Festival City, at schools such as Al Ittihad Private School Al Mamzar, Deira International School and Universal American School. Al Qusais, Al Nahda and Oud Metha are dominated by Indian-curriculum and British-track schools running IGCSE sciences at sixteen, so many Diploma physics students from here commute each morning. Confirm current programmes with the school directly and against KHDA's own school listing; we name these schools as neighbourhood context and claim no affiliation.

How many physics sessions a week does a Higher Level student need?+

One long block a week is the sensible default for a student who is coping and wants to move up a grade, provided the problem sets between sessions are actually attempted. Two - one long, one short - suits a student with a diagnosed content gap, a Paper 1B weakness or an investigation running behind the school's internal deadline. Three is an intensive block before mocks rather than a steady arrangement. The more useful question is how many days pass between the lesson and the work it was meant to fix.

What happens if no Higher Level physics specialist is free in our time slot?+

We tell you at the match stage rather than after a payment. Higher Level physics is the scarcest match in this subject, demand concentrates in the same two Gulf evening hours, and before mocks and around investigation deadlines those hours fill. The options are then stated plainly: a different slot with the right specialist, a tutor with adjacent expertise starting now, or a wait with a date attached to it. What we will not do is place a Standard Level generalist with a Higher Level student and hope nobody notices.

Do you send a physics tutor to our home in Al Qusais?+

No. Every UAE lesson we arrange runs one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we operate only in India. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the Emirates. The Dubai market does supply in-home physics tutors, quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the fee, and for a ninety-minute physics block that arithmetic gets expensive quickly. If you choose that route, ask the tutor about the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is granted free of charge for two years.

Book the long block, and tell us which night physics lands

Two pieces of information make a physics plan work for an Al Qusais family: the level your child sits and the night of the week the school actually sets physics work. With those, the shape is straightforward - a ninety-minute block at the weekend or from 19:45 for data, graphs and Paper 2 work, plus a shorter correction slot pinned to the night the homework lands. Send the level, the school, the latest grade and your two workable windows, and the first lesson is a free trial with the matched tutor: one lesson, fee discussed afterwards, delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
