IB Crash Course in Dubai

An IB crash course in Dubai is a purchase with an arithmetic answer. A 20-hour intensive block at the published Dubai market rate for a subject specialist costs somewhere between AED 4,000 and AED 9,000, and it has to earn that back in marks from a fixed number of components. This page works through the numbers: what changes the figure in this emirate, where the hours should go, and when the honest answer is that an intensive block cannot recover what is missing. Lessons run online over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Start with the money, because the money is what makes the decision

Almost every page about intensive IB revision opens with reassurance. This one opens with a number, because the number is the thing families are actually weighing. At the published Dubai market rate for an IB subject specialist, AED 200 to 450 an hour, a 20-hour block is AED 4,000 to AED 9,000 for one subject. At the qualified-online-tutor band of AED 150 to 300, the same block is AED 3,000 to AED 6,000. Those bands come from published 2026 rate cards and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey, and they are market figures rather than a price list of ours.

Put that against what the hours can reach. A Diploma subject is assessed by two or three external papers carrying most of the grade and an internal assessment carrying roughly a fifth. Twenty hours cannot re-teach two years of content in any subject. It can rehearse one paper format to competence, close two or three specific topic gaps, and rebuild the way a student reads questions. Those three things, done in the right subject at the right moment, move a grade. Spread thinly across five subjects, the same hours and the same money move nothing.

So the first useful question is not how much does a crash course cost but what is the cost per mark recovered, and that depends almost entirely on what is missing. A student losing marks to form and question reading is cheap to fix, because those faults are habits and habits respond to a few hours of marked practice. A student missing a year of Higher Level content is expensive to fix and may not be fixable in the time available at any price, which is a thing worth being told in writing before money changes hands.

The second question is what changes the number in Dubai specifically, and several things do. Lead time is the largest factor: a block booked in February is a different market from one booked in the last fortnight before papers, when specialist availability tightens and families end up buying whatever is free rather than whichever tutor they need. Level matters, because Higher Level option topics are a smaller specialist pool. Format matters, because group intensives are cheaper per hour and give a student fewer of their own questions answered.

This page is organised around those two questions. It sets out block sizes against market bands, what each block size can honestly cover, the factors that move the price in this emirate, how an intensive block compares against the same money spent on a term of weekly sessions, where the hours should go when a block is bought, and the situations in which we decline the booking because the arithmetic does not work. Every figure carries its source and its date.

At a glance

  • A 20-hour specialist block in Dubai is AED 4,000-9,000 at published market rates
  • Twenty hours cannot re-teach two years; it can fix a paper format and two or three topics
  • Lead time is the biggest single factor in both price and availability
  • Group intensives are cheaper per hour and answer fewer of your child's own questions
  • Lessons are online one-to-one; IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai
  • We give a written feasibility answer before an intensive block is sold
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Intensive blocks are bought at four distinct points in the IB continuum, and the arithmetic is different at each. These are the stages Dubai families buy them for.

DPAges 17-19 · Year 13

Diploma Programme, final year

The classic crash-course purchase: one or two subjects, bought between the January mocks and the May session, aimed at paper technique rather than content. Each subject has two or three external papers and an internal assessment already submitted, so the entire addressable mark pool is the external components. That makes the targeting unusually clean.

Dubai schools sit the May session, and the exact examination window, results release and enquiry deadlines should be confirmed with your school's IB coordinator or on the IB's own site rather than taken from a tutoring page. Internal deadlines for the components already submitted were set by the school, which is why two Dubai students can arrive at an intensive block with very different amounts of work behind them.

DPAges 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Programme, first year

A smaller and better-value purchase that few families consider: a short block in the summer or at a half-term, aimed at the transition gap rather than at an examination. Ten hours spent securing the mathematics or the written structure a Higher Level subject assumes is cheaper than thirty hours spent repairing the consequences in Year 13.

Dubai Year 12 students arrive from Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel, the Middle Years Programme and American high-school tracks, so the transition gap differs by route. The diagnostic matters more here than the hours: ten hours aimed at the wrong gap produces nothing, and the gap is identifiable from one marked piece of work.

DP coreAges 16-19 · Across both years

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Short blocks bought against a school deadline rather than an examination. The exhibition, the prescribed-title essay and the 4,000-word Extended Essay carry up to three bonus points between them. A six-hour block spread over three weeks is usually the right shape, because the student needs thinking time between sessions.

The Extended Essay supervisor is appointed by the Dubai school and signs the reflection sessions. An intensive block works beside that process and cannot replace it. Where a family arrives asking for a draft to be finished, the answer is no: the student writes every word, and a provider offering otherwise is creating a malpractice risk that falls on the candidate.

RetakeAges 18-19 · After results

The November session and retakes

The IB offers a November session as well as a May one, which turns a missed university condition into a decision with options. An intensive block here is unusually efficient, because the student has already sat the papers and knows exactly which components cost them the grade, so the targeting is evidence-led rather than predictive.

Session dates, registration deadlines and the enquiry-upon-results window are set by the IB and administered through the school. Confirm all of them with your school's IB coordinator before planning a retake block, and treat any specific date published on a tutoring site, including dates for the November session, as unverified until the coordinator or the IB confirms it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects most often bought as an intensive block in Dubai, with what twenty hours can realistically reach in each. The third consideration in every case is whether the loss is habit or content, because that decides the cost per mark.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Twenty hours covers one paper format to competence plus two or three topic gaps, typically calculus technique and one proof method. The cheapest marks are in method presentation: a student who shows working consistently recovers marks already earned mathematically, which costs perhaps three hours to fix.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Long contextual questions, so hours go further on reading technique than on content. A 20-hour block can usually cover the statistics content properly and rehearse the modelling questions, which together carry a substantial share of the papers.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, energetics and equilibrium absorb most of an intensive block at Higher Level. Significant figures, state symbols and unbalanced half-equations are two or three hours of work and recover marks on every paper, which makes them the first thing a short block should address.

Physics

HL and SL

Extended-response explanation is the highest-yield target: a repeatable answer structure taught in three or four hours transfers across the whole paper. Fields and circuits can be rebuilt in a 20-hour block; a complete absence of mechanics cannot, and that is a feasibility question rather than an effort question.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume makes this the subject where triage matters most. Data-analysis questions carry a large mark share and are usually the least practised, so an intensive block that starts there buys more marks per hour than one that starts with recall topics the student partly knows already.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy is finite, visibly improvable and worth real marks, which makes it ideal intensive material. Higher Level quantitative content is the other target. Twenty hours is enough for both if the internal assessment commentaries are already submitted, which by the final term they are.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 unseen analysis responds well to intensive work because the skill is a transferable method rather than a body of content. Twenty hours can rebuild it. Paper 2 depends on the texts studied, so an intensive block there is constrained by what the student actually remembers of them.

History

HL and SL

Source technique for Paper 1 is method rather than knowledge and can be taught in six to eight hours. The Higher Level regional option needs a bank of dated specifics, which an intensive block can build but only by abandoning parts of the syllabus deliberately and saying which.

Business Management

HL and SL

The Higher Level pre-released case study is the one Diploma component where intensive preparation is the standard approach rather than a rescue, because it is published in advance and rewards concentrated work. Twenty hours against the case study is a well-understood purchase.

Theory of Knowledge

Core · both years

A short block of six to eight hours, spread across three weeks, aimed at whether the essay answers its prescribed title and whether the exhibition objects can carry the argument. Hours beyond that produce diminishing returns, because the limiting factor is the student's own thinking time.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three intensive formats cover almost every Dubai request, and they differ in cost per hour as well as in what they can achieve. All run online, one-to-one unless stated, over live video with screen sharing.

Consecutive-day block

Three or four hours a day across four or five consecutive days, almost always in a holiday week. Best for rebuilding a paper format or a connected body of content, because the student holds the thread from one day to the next and nothing decays between sessions.

  • 16 to 20 hours inside one week
  • Mornings rather than afternoons; retention is materially better
  • One subject per block, never two
  • Written plan on day one naming what is being abandoned

Spread block across a term

Two hours twice a week for five weeks, which is the same twenty hours at the same hourly rate but with practice time in between. Better for topic gaps and for anything needing consolidation, and easier on a student still attending school full time.

  • Same total hours, same market rate, different shape
  • Work set between sessions and marked at the next
  • Suits February and March, before availability tightens
  • Can be paused around the school's own mock week

Short targeted block

Six to eight hours against one named component: a Paper 1 format, a Theory of Knowledge essay structure, the quantitative half of Higher Level Economics. The cheapest intensive purchase and often the highest return per dirham, because the target is narrow enough to finish.

  • One component, one measurable outcome
  • A marked paper or draft at the start and at the end
  • Usually two or three weeks long
  • The right purchase when funds are limited

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The arithmetic of an intensive block: hours against AED

Take the published market bands and multiply. A qualified online subject tutor in Dubai is published at AED 150 to 300 an hour and an IB subject specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more, with premium named tutors published as high as AED 650. Those figures come from published 2026 rate cards and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey. Multiplying them by realistic block sizes produces the table below, and the table is the most useful thing on this page because it makes the decision visible before the first session rather than after the fifth.

The second column of the decision is what each block can actually cover, and this is where most crash-course marketing goes quiet. Ten hours is one component or one connected topic set. Twenty hours is one paper format plus two or three topic gaps. Forty hours is a genuine rebuild of one subject at Standard Level, or most of one at Higher Level if the foundations are intact. Nothing in this range re-teaches two years of a Higher Level science from nothing, and a provider implying otherwise is selling hope.

A third number belongs in the calculation and is usually left out: what the same money does spread differently. Twenty specialist hours at AED 300 is AED 6,000, which at the same rate is also a weekly hour for two full terms, or ten hours now and ten hours after the mocks when the evidence is better. For a student whose losses are habits, the spread version produces more because habits need repetition rather than immersion. For a student rebuilding a paper format three weeks out, the block wins.

What moves the number in Dubai specifically

Seven factors account for nearly all the variation, and only two of them are about the tutor. The largest is lead time. A block booked in February draws on the full specialist pool at ordinary rates; a block booked in the last fortnight before papers draws on whoever has a gap, which both raises the effective price and lowers the match quality. Families consistently underestimate this, and it is the single most expensive mistake available in this market.

Level and subject scarcity come next. A Standard Level Economics block is straightforward to staff. A Higher Level option topic or a second language A subject is a small pool before any timing constraint is applied, and scarcity shows up as either a higher rate or a longer wait. Format is the third factor: a group intensive in a Dubai tuition centre is materially cheaper per hour than one-to-one and gives a student fewer of their own questions answered, which is a real trade rather than a false economy.

The remaining factors are the ones parents can actually control. Session length changes the effective rate, because four-hour days are usually quoted as hours rather than at a premium. Whether the internal assessment is already submitted changes what the hours are allowed to do. And the tier of tutor you buy should follow the problem: paying specialist rates to fix significant-figure errors is spending AED 450 an hour on something that a careful tutor at the lower end of the qualified band fixes equally well.

03

Twenty hours now against a weekly hour for two terms

This is the comparison that actually decides value, and almost nobody publishes it. Twenty specialist hours and a weekly hour for two terms can cost the same money at Dubai market rates, and they produce different results depending on one thing: whether the problem is a habit or a hole. Habits need repetition across weeks, because the student has to practise the new behaviour under their own steam and come back with evidence. Holes need immersion, because partial content taught in fragments decays between sessions.

In practice most Diploma problems are a mixture, which argues for splitting the money. Ten hours as a block to rebuild the paper format, then a weekly hour to maintain and extend it, is usually stronger than either pure option, and it has the practical advantage of putting a measurement point in the middle. The block produces a marked paper; the weekly hour produces practice; the second marked paper six weeks later shows whether the money worked.

There is also a timing asymmetry worth naming. A weekly hour started in September can still become a block in April if the evidence says so. A block bought in April cannot retrospectively become a term of weekly hours. Families who start early keep both options; families who wait have one, at the worst price, with the smallest choice of tutor. That is the strongest financial argument on this page and it has nothing to do with teaching quality.

Where the hours should go: triage by component weighting

Hours should follow marks, and marks are not evenly distributed. In a typical Diploma subject the external papers carry roughly 70 to 80 per cent of the grade and the internal assessment the remainder, which means that by the final term, with the internal assessment submitted, the entire addressable pool is the papers. That sounds obvious and is routinely ignored: families buy intensive blocks that spend a quarter of the hours on an internal assessment that is already gone.

Within the papers, the allocation should follow both weighting and recoverability. A Paper 2 worth 35 per cent of the grade where the student scores badly for structural reasons is the best target available: large pool, repairable fault. A Paper 3 worth 20 per cent at Higher Level where the student has never seen the format is also strong, because format is quick to teach. A paper where the student already performs near their ceiling is the worst target, however much they dislike it.

The practical method is to mark one recent paper per candidate subject before any hours are allocated. That produces a mark breakdown by question type, and the breakdown decides the plan. It routinely changes which subject gets the block: a family convinced that Chemistry is the problem often discovers that the Chemistry losses are content, slow and expensive, while the Mathematics losses are presentation, fast and cheap. The same money then buys two grade bands instead of half of one.

The calendar that decides whether a block is still worth buying

  • The practical buying window runs from January to early April
  • IB session, results and enquiry dates come from your school's coordinator, not from a tutoring page
  • Cambridge and Pearson publish their dates; the IB restricts automated access, so we do not reproduce its dates
  • A spring-break block outperforms a study-leave block on the same hours

Dubai schools sit the May session, and the practical consequence is that the useful buying window for an intensive block runs from about January to early April. Before January the evidence is thin, because the mocks have not happened. After early April two things happen together: specialist availability tightens, and the number of weeks left stops being enough for content work, which narrows what the hours can do to format and technique alone.

Exact IB dates are not published on this page on purpose. The IB sets the session window, the results release and the enquiry-upon-results deadlines, and they are administered through the school, so the only reliable source is your school's IB coordinator or the IB's own site. Any tutoring page quoting you a specific IB examination or results date should be treated as unverified until you have checked it there. Cambridge and Pearson publish their dates openly and those can be relied on; the IB restricts automated access to its pages, so we do not reproduce its dates.

What is worth planning around are the school's own dates, which the school will give you: the mock window, the internal assessment deadlines, the last teaching day and the study-leave start. A block that begins the week after study leave starts is the most common shape in Dubai and often the least effective, because by then the student is self-managing six subjects. A block in the spring break, two or three weeks earlier, does more with the same hours.

06

Group crash courses in Dubai, and the arithmetic of a shared rate

Group intensives are the main competitor to a one-to-one block, and the honest comparison is about what each format is good at rather than which is better. A tuition centre running a Higher Level Chemistry revision course for eight students can charge materially less per student per hour, because the cost of the teacher is divided. For content delivery where the whole group shares a gap, that is efficient and sensible.

What a group cannot do is diagnose. The reason an intensive block produces marks is that the first session identifies which two or three things are costing this particular student their grade, and the remaining hours attack those. In a group of eight, the hours attack the average of eight different problems, which is nobody's problem. A student whose losses are idiosyncratic, and most are, gets the content they already had delivered again in a different voice.

The sensible structure, where a family wants both, is to use the group course for content coverage and buy a short one-to-one block for diagnosis and paper marking. Four hours of one-to-one spent marking the student's own papers against the markscheme, alongside a group revision course, is usually a better purchase than either alone. It also makes the group course more useful, because the student arrives knowing which parts to pay attention to. The sequence matters as well: the marking should come first, so the group hours are spent listening for the right things rather than being reviewed afterwards for whatever stuck.

What a crash course cannot do, and when we decline the booking

  • Total content deficit at Higher Level with under four weeks left: we say which subjects are reachable instead
  • Any request to write, finish or produce assessed work: refused, and the reason explained
  • Forty hours across five subjects two weeks out: the hours cannot be absorbed
  • A written feasibility answer before money changes hands

Three declines come up regularly and all three are arithmetic rather than policy. The first is a Higher Level science or mathematics with a near-total content deficit and under four weeks left. Twenty hours against two years of missing foundations produces a student who has seen the material once, which is not the same as being able to use it under time pressure. The honest answer is to say which two subjects still have reachable marks and spend the money there.

The second is a request to produce or finish assessed work. Students arrive in the final term with an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay unfinished and ask for it to be handled. A tutor can teach the content, explain the published criteria, read what the student has written and ask the questions the criteria ask. A tutor cannot supply sentences, insert sources or complete a section. An IB malpractice finding falls on the candidate and can cost the Diploma, which makes this the easiest refusal in the business.

The third is a block bought as reassurance rather than for marks. A parent two weeks from the session who buys forty hours across five subjects is buying the feeling of having acted. The student loses revision time to sessions that cannot be absorbed, and the family spends in the region of AED 8,000 to 18,000 at specialist rates for it. We would rather set out the arithmetic, decline part of the booking and keep the part that works than take the whole thing and explain afterwards.

08

How delivery, scheduling and coverage work for an intensive block

Sessions run online, one-to-one, over live video with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we run only in India. For an intensive block that model has a specific advantage: the tutor is chosen for having taught the exact component the block targets, rather than for being able to reach your community for four consecutive mornings, which in April is a very short list.

Scheduling an intensive block works best in the mornings. A four-hour block from 09:00 in a holiday week produces materially better retention than the same four hours from 16:00, and a student who sits a paper at 09:30 is working at roughly the time the real examination will run. During Ramadan the pattern changes: late morning and post-Iftar are the viable windows, and timed-paper work is harder during fasting hours, so blocks in that period are usually better spent on content and technique.

Coverage is stated before anything is sold. Common Diploma subjects at both levels can usually be staffed within a few days, including for a consecutive-day block. Higher Level option topics and second language A subjects take longer and tighten sharply from mid-April. Where the available tutor is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, we say so rather than implying a local presence. If we cannot staff the block properly in the time available, we say that instead of substituting a generalist.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Intensive blocks are bought from across Dubai, and the only local variable that matters is when a student can sit for three or four hours at a stretch. These are the communities the requests most often come from.

Dubai Hills Estate

Villa community with schools inside or adjacent to it, so weekday mornings in the holidays are easy to use. Intensive blocks here are usually taken as four-hour mornings across a single week rather than spread over a month.

Jumeirah 1

Established coastal community with short runs to the Jumeirah and Al Safa school corridor. Families here often buy a block in the spring break and a second shorter one in the final fortnight, which is the more expensive way to buy the same hours.

Umm Suqeim

Mixed villa stock with a strong British and IB school presence nearby. Requests cluster in February and March, which is the right time: specialist availability tightens sharply from mid-April and the choice narrows to whoever is free.

Al Safa

Central location with a short commute, so students arrive home earlier and can take a late-afternoon intensive session during term. This makes a spread block of two hours twice a week viable here, which is a better format than it looks.

Al Wasl

Apartment and villa mix close to the Jumeirah schools. Blocks are often shared between two siblings in consecutive sessions, and the economics of that are straightforward online: two sessions cost two sessions, with no travel gap between them.

Jumeirah Park

Family villa community with heavy weekend activity schedules, so holiday-week mornings carry most of the intensive work. The spring break is the most requested period and the slots go from February onwards.

Jumeirah Islands

Quieter community with fewer competing commitments, which makes a consecutive-day block easier to run here than in the Marina corridor. Four consecutive mornings is the format families most often settle on.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send one recent marked paper per candidate subject

Not a report and not a predicted grade. A marked paper, for each subject you are considering funding. The mark breakdown decides which subject gets the hours, and it frequently overturns the family's assumption about which subject is the problem.

  2. 02

    Free 45-minute diagnostic lesson

One session, no card details taken, no obligation. The tutor marks a paper against the current markscheme and reports whether the losses are form, question reading, narrow content or wholesale content absence. Those four findings have very different costs per mark recovered.

  3. 03

Get the feasibility answer in writing

Before any hours are bought: what the block can reach in the weeks remaining, what it is going to abandon deliberately, and what it cannot do at any size. If the answer is that a subject is not recoverable in the time available, you should have that sentence in writing rather than discovering it in week two.

Choose the shape as well as the size

Consecutive days for a paper format or connected content; two hours twice a week for topic gaps and habit work; six to eight hours for a single named component. The same hours at the same rate produce different results in different shapes, and the shape should follow the diagnosis.

Measure at the start and at the end

A marked paper before the block and a marked paper after it, under the same conditions. That is the only way to know whether AED 4,000 to 9,000 bought anything. Ask for both totals in writing, with the breakdown by question type, and keep them.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The arithmetic is published before you buy

Block sizes against the published Dubai market bands, with what each size can honestly cover. No page in this market shows the multiplication, which is why families routinely buy forty hours when twenty aimed properly would have done more.

Hours allocated by component weighting

Marks are not evenly distributed, so the hours are not either. Nothing is spent on an internal assessment already submitted, and the largest paper with a repairable fault gets the biggest allocation. The allocation is written down before the block starts.

A written feasibility answer

Including when the answer is no. A Higher Level content deficit with four weeks left is not recoverable at any block size, and saying so in writing is more useful to a family than selling the hours and explaining in May.

Rates attributed, not asserted

Every AED figure here comes from a published 2026 rate card or Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey, with the band and the format named. They are the market's numbers, not ours. Three of the six pages ranking for Dubai IB queries publish no price at all.

Dates from the school, not from us

Cambridge and Pearson publish their series dates openly and we cite them. The IB restricts automated access to its pages, so we do not reproduce IB session or results dates; your school's IB coordinator is the source. A tutoring page quoting IB dates should be checked before you plan around it.

Refusals we are willing to make

We will not write, finish or produce an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, and we will not sell forty hours across five subjects a fortnight before the session. Both refusals cost us the booking and protect the candidate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an IB crash course cost in Dubai?+

Work it out from the published bands. A qualified online subject tutor in Dubai is published at AED 150 to 300 an hour and an IB subject specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more, so a 20-hour block runs roughly AED 3,000 to 6,000 at the first band and AED 4,000 to 9,000 at the second. An eight-hour targeted block is AED 1,200 to 3,600. Those figures come from published 2026 rate cards and the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey; they are market rates rather than our price list, and group courses are materially cheaper per hour.

How many hours does a crash course actually need to be?+

It depends on the target rather than the subject. Eight hours is enough for one narrow component finished properly: a Paper 1 format, an essay structure, the quantitative half of Higher Level Economics. Twenty hours covers one paper format plus two or three topic gaps. Forty hours can rebuild a Standard Level subject or most of a Higher Level one where the foundations are intact. Nothing in this range re-teaches two years of content from nothing, and a provider implying it can is selling hope rather than hours.

Is it too late to start six weeks before the papers?+

For technique, no. For content, usually. Six weeks is enough to rebuild a paper format, fix form faults such as unshown working or dropped units, and teach a repeatable structure for extended-response questions. It is not enough to install a year of missing Higher Level content in a way that survives time pressure. The honest answer comes from marking one recent paper: if the losses are form and question reading, six weeks is plenty, and if they are wholesale content, we will say which subjects still have reachable marks.

Which subject should get the block if we can only fund one?+

The one where the marks are most recoverable, which is not always the one with the lowest grade. Mark one recent paper per candidate subject and look at the breakdown: a subject losing marks to presentation and question reading is cheap and fast to fix, while a subject losing them across the whole syllabus is slow and expensive. Weigh consequence too, since a university condition may rest on one subject. Families often arrive certain it is Chemistry and leave having funded Mathematics, because that is where the same money buys more.

Why does booking in April cost more than booking in February?+

Because availability collapses. In February the full specialist pool is reachable at ordinary published rates and you can choose the tutor who has taught your exact component. In the last fortnight before papers you are choosing from whoever has a gap, which raises the effective price and lowers the match quality at the same time. Lead time is the single biggest controllable factor in both the cost and the usefulness of an intensive block, and it is the mistake this market makes most often.

Is a group revision course in Dubai a false economy?+

No, it is a different product. A centre running a group course divides the teacher's cost across the group, so content coverage is genuinely cheaper per hour, and for a cohort sharing one gap that works well. What a group cannot do is diagnose one student's specific losses or mark their own papers properly. The strongest combination for most families is a group course for content plus four hours of one-to-one spent marking the student's own scripts, which also makes the group hours more useful.

Should we buy twenty hours now or a weekly hour for two terms?+

They can cost the same at Dubai market rates and they fix different problems. Habits, form faults and question reading need weekly repetition, because the student has to practise under their own steam and come back with evidence. Content holes need immersion, because fragments decay between sessions. Most Diploma problems are a mixture, so splitting the money works well: a ten-hour block to rebuild the method, then a weekly hour to embed it, with a marked paper at each end to show whether it worked.

Can a crash course help with an unfinished internal assessment?+

It can help the student finish it themselves, and no further. A tutor can teach the content the investigation needs, explain what each published criterion asks for, read what the student has written and ask the questions the criteria ask. A tutor cannot supply sentences, insert sources or complete a section. We refuse those requests because an IB malpractice finding falls on the candidate and can cost the Diploma, and because the school-appointed supervisor is the person who signs the authenticity declaration.

When are the IB exams, and why will you not print the dates?+

Dubai schools sit the May session, and the exact window, the results release and the enquiry-upon-results deadlines are set by the IB and administered through your school. We do not reproduce IB dates because the IB restricts automated access to its own pages, which means no date we could print here would be verified, and an unverified date on a revision page is worse than no date. Ask your school's IB coordinator, or check the IB's site directly. Cambridge and Pearson dates are published openly and we do cite those.

Does a crash course work better in the morning?+

Clearly, yes. A four-hour block from 09:00 in a holiday week retains materially better than the same hours from 16:00, and a student sitting a timed paper at 09:30 is working close to the time the real examination runs. During Ramadan the viable windows are late morning and after Iftar, and because timed-paper work is harder during fasting hours, blocks in that period are usually better spent on content and technique. The spring break is the most requested period and those slots go from February.

Can one block cover two subjects?+

It can be split, but understand what that buys. Forty hours across two subjects is two 20-hour blocks, which at specialist rates is AED 8,000 to 18,000, and it delivers paper technique in both subjects with content recovery in neither. If both subjects have format problems that is a reasonable purchase. If one has a content deficit it is not, and the better plan is to fund one subject properly and spend a smaller sum on marking the other's papers.

What happens if the tutor says the block will not work?+

You get that in writing before you pay, with the reason and an alternative. The usual alternatives are to fund a different subject where the marks are reachable, to buy a shorter targeted block against one component, or to spend the money on marking and feedback rather than teaching. We would rather decline part of a booking than take the whole thing and explain in May, and declining happens most often with a Higher Level content deficit inside four weeks.

Is an intensive block useful for a November session retake?+

It is one of the better uses of the format, because the targeting is evidence-led rather than predictive. The student has sat the papers and the component marks show exactly where the grade went, so the hours can be allocated precisely instead of being spread as insurance. Session dates, registration deadlines and the enquiry window are set by the IB and administered through the school, so confirm all of them with your IB coordinator before planning the block or committing to a retake.

How quickly can a 20-hour block be staffed in Dubai?+

For common Diploma subjects at either level, usually within a few days, including for four consecutive mornings. Higher Level option topics and second language A subjects take longer, and availability tightens sharply from mid-April, which is the argument for booking in February. Where the available tutor is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, we say so rather than implying a local presence. If we cannot staff it properly in the time left, we say that rather than substituting a generalist.

Where do the sessions take place?+

Online, one-to-one, over live video with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we run only in India. For an intensive block that matters practically: the tutor is chosen for having taught the exact component the hours are aimed at, rather than for being able to reach your community for four consecutive mornings, which in April is a very short list in any Dubai community.

Send one marked paper, get the arithmetic back

The decision needs two inputs. A recent marked paper for each subject you are considering funding, and the number of weeks left on your school's calendar. Take the free 45-minute diagnostic, which takes no card details and carries no obligation, and you get the third: a written answer saying what a block of each size could reach, what it would deliberately abandon, and what it cannot do at any price. Then buy the smallest block that covers the target rather than the largest one you can afford.
