Female IGCSE Tutor in Dubai

A request for a female IGCSE tutor in Dubai almost always arrives in Year 10 or Year 11, when option subjects are locked, the first mock has come back and the family can see which two subjects are going to decide the sixth-form conversation. The requirement is recorded before subject matching starts. Before anything is booked, one thing needs checking: whether the school entered your daughter for Cambridge or for Pearson Edexcel, because the syllabus codes, the tiering and the practical papers differ. Lessons run online over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Requirement applied as a filter before any subject match is made
  • Tutors matched to the exam board your school actually entered
  • Syllabus codes checked against the school's entry, not assumed
  • Online one-to-one over live video, scheduled around the Dubai school day

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The two years that set the sixth-form conversation, and why the board matters more than the brand

IGCSE is a two-year course that behaves like a one-year course. Year 10 is content delivery, usually at a pace that assumes everything lands first time, and Year 11 is the year in which papers, coursework and the January mock arrive together. By the time a family in Al Barsha or Al Furjan starts looking for a tutor, there is normally a trigger: a mock grade two bands below the target, a science that has stopped making sense, or an English Language mark that will not move however much the student revises.

A female-tutor requirement at this stage is usually about the student rather than the subject. Fifteen and sixteen-year-olds who have gone quiet in class do not volunteer their confusion to a stranger, and families often judge, reasonably, that their daughter will say the words I do not understand sooner to a woman. Some requests are subject-specific instead: Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education, or the human biology topics that sit inside IGCSE Biology. Both versions of the request are recorded the same way, as a filter applied before matching.

The thing most families have not checked is the board. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel both award an International GCSE and Dubai schools use both, sometimes mixing boards between departments in the same school. The syllabus codes differ, the tiering differs, the practical assessment differs and the exam timetables are published separately. A tutor who prepares a student for Cambridge Physics 0625 Paper 6 when the school entered Pearson 4PH1 has wasted a term on the wrong paper format, and nobody notices until the mock.

Dubai makes this more likely than most markets, because the school population is so varied. KHDA counted 227 private schools and 387,441 students in the emirate in 2024-25, running 17 curricula between them, and British-curriculum schools are the largest group by enrolment. That is a lot of schools making independent departmental decisions about boards and tiers, which is exactly why the first question in a diagnostic lesson is which syllabus code is on the entry, not which topic is hard.

The rest of this page is the detail a Year 11 family needs: Cambridge against Pearson Edexcel in a table, what the Core and Extended decision does to the grade ceiling, how science practicals are assessed when tuition is online, the entry deadlines that sit months before the papers, the five-subject rule for Ministry of Education equivalency, and what IGCSE tutoring actually costs in this market. Each of those is a question a Dubai parent can act on within a week, and most of them are questions the pages currently ranking for this search leave unanswered. Where a figure appears below it carries its source and its date, because a rate or a deadline without either is not information a family can plan around.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Most Dubai families who ask this question are looking at two or three years of the same British track rather than one exam series. These are the stages the request spans and what support looks like at each.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Subject-by-subject qualification graded A* to G or 9 to 1 depending on the syllabus, with most subjects assessed entirely by written papers sat in a June or November series. Several subjects are tiered into Core and Extended, which sets a grade ceiling at the point of entry rather than at the point of marking. Syllabus codes identify the exact course: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology.

Cambridge allocates every centre worldwide to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable per zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Dubai schools sit in a Gulf zone, so a revision plan copied from a United Kingdom timetable can put a paper on the wrong day. Always work from the timetable the school's exams officer issues.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Parallel qualification with its own specifications and codes: 4MA1 for Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology, 4EA1 English Language A. Papers are available in a May/June series and a November series. Mathematics A is tiered Foundation and Higher, and the science specifications assess practical skills inside the written papers rather than in a separate practical examination.

Pearson published results to centres for the June 2026 series on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Pearson issues provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so a Dubai family should work from the live timetable on the Pearson qualifications site rather than a date copied onto a tutoring page.

CheckpointAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before IGCSE, with Checkpoint tests available in March, May and October. These tests are diagnostic rather than qualifications, and their value to a family is that they show whether a student is on track for Extended entry in Year 10 while there is still time to do something about it. Weak algebra and weak written structure are the two findings that matter most.

Dubai schools use Checkpoint results and internal data to set Core and Extended groups, sometimes as early as the end of Year 9. Families who want their daughter on the Extended track in Mathematics or the sciences are far better off starting support in Year 9 than appealing a set decision in Year 10, because the set determines which textbook and which papers she is taught from all year.

AS/A LevelAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

The most common route out of IGCSE in Dubai British-curriculum schools, alongside the IB Diploma. Entry to an A Level course normally requires a grade 6, 7 or A at IGCSE in the same or a related subject, which is why the Year 11 grade is a gate rather than a summary. International A Level examinations run in June and November series.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or above, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, in addition to five accredited subjects at IGCSE or GCSE at grade E or 3 or above. That is the published British-track rule and it is worth reading before subject choices are locked at the end of Year 11.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Dubai families request most, with the syllabus codes and the specific place marks are lost in each. Codes matter: a tutor should confirm yours against the school's entry in the first session.

Mathematics (0580 Cambridge · 4MA1 Pearson)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Marks are lost to method presentation and to the non-calculator paper. Students who can solve a problem on paper with a calculator often cannot do it without one, and the tiering decision made in Year 10 caps the grade regardless of how well the paper goes. Algebraic manipulation is the single topic that makes the most other topics tractable.

Physics (0625 Cambridge · 4PH1 Pearson)

Core and Extended

Electricity and waves are where Extended candidates lose most marks, usually because circuit reasoning was never secured in Year 9. Cambridge assesses practical skills in a separate paper, either the practical test or the alternative to practical; Pearson assesses them inside the written papers. Knowing which applies decides what revision looks like.

Chemistry (0620 Cambridge · 4CH1 Pearson)

Core and Extended

Moles and ionic equations separate grades. The commonest failure is a correct calculation written without units or to the wrong number of significant figures. Qualitative analysis questions reward memorised observations: a precipitate colour, a gas test result, a flame colour. Those are learnable marks that students repeatedly leave on the table.

Biology (0610 Cambridge · 4BI1 Pearson)

Core and Extended

Content volume plus strict terminology. Markschemes written for one term will not accept a near-synonym, so a student who writes breathing for respiration loses the mark they earned. Human physiology topics, including reproduction and hormones, are the part of the specification families most often ask a female tutor to cover with a daughter.

English Language (0500 Cambridge · 4EA1 Pearson)

First Language

The grade is decided by response structure, not by vocabulary. Directed writing tasks are marked on whether the student has written in the required form and register for the stated audience, and a well-written piece in the wrong form caps low. Reading questions reward precise selection from the passage rather than general comment.

English as a Second Language (0510 and 0511)

Core and Extended

Taken by a large share of Dubai candidates and often under-prepared because students assume fluency is enough. Marks sit in exercise-specific technique: note-making to the required headings, summary within the word limit, and a speaking component assessed against published criteria rather than on confidence.

Business Studies (0450) and Economics (0455)

Core and Extended

Both reward applying a concept to the stimulus material on the paper. Generic answers about marketing or supply and demand score almost nothing. Data-response questions in Economics require reading a table or diagram accurately before writing, and that reading step is where most lost marks originate rather than in the theory.

Arabic as a First Language (0508)

Also a KHDA-mandated school subject

Dubai students often sit Arabic A as an IGCSE while also taking the school's mandatory Arabic provision. Students who speak a dialect at home read fluently and write below their level in Standard Arabic. This is the subject in which a female tutor is most frequently requested outright rather than as a general preference.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading for A Level Mathematics, and the bridge that makes the first term of Year 12 survivable. Calculus and trigonometric identities arrive with no scaffolding, and students who were comfortable in 0580 are often surprised by the step in abstraction rather than in difficulty.

Computer Science (0478) and Accounting (0452)

Single tier

Two option subjects where lost marks are highly specific. Computer Science rewards pseudocode written to the published convention and trace tables completed row by row. Accounting rewards format: a correctly laid out statement earns marks that a correct answer in the wrong format does not.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats carry nearly all Year 10 and Year 11 work. Each runs online, one-to-one, over live video with a shared whiteboard, and each can be booked with a stated female-tutor requirement.

Single-subject weekly sessions

One 60-minute session a week in one subject, through the term, with the same tutor. This is the format for a subject that is one or two grades below target rather than in trouble, and it works because the tutor sees the same student's written work accumulate week by week.

  • Same tutor and same slot for the term
  • Work set between sessions and marked at the next one
  • Written note after each session naming what to practise
  • Tutor change available on request without a reason

Two subjects on separate evenings

The standard Year 11 arrangement in Dubai: Mathematics on one evening and a science on another, deliberately not stacked on the same night. Two tutors rather than one generalist, because IGCSE marks are lost in subject-specific technique and a generalist cannot diagnose a Chemistry observation question.

  • One specialist per subject, each matched to the syllabus code
  • Sessions placed on different evenings to protect concentration
  • Shared written notes so the family sees both plans
  • Common in Al Furjan, Al Barsha and Town Square households

Mock-season and past-paper blocks

Short intensive blocks in the weeks before the January mocks or the live series, spent entirely on timed papers and markscheme work. The student sits a paper, the tutor marks it to the published markscheme and the session is about the marks that were available rather than the topic.

  • Timed paper, marked return, targeted follow-up
  • Worked from the school's zone or series timetable
  • Official papers referenced through the board's own site, never redistributed
  • Four to six sessions is the usual length

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the check to make before booking anything

Ask the school which board and which syllabus code your daughter has been entered for in each subject. Both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel award an International GCSE, Dubai schools use both, and some schools run different boards in different departments, so the answer can be Cambridge for the sciences and Pearson for Mathematics in the same Year 11. The entry code is the only reliable identifier, and the exams officer has it.

The practical consequences are large. Cambridge tiers several subjects into Core and Extended with different papers for each; Pearson tiers Mathematics A into Foundation and Higher and leaves most other subjects untiered. Cambridge assesses science practical skills in a dedicated paper, either the practical test or the alternative to practical; Pearson assesses practical understanding inside the written papers. Grading scales differ by syllabus too, with some reporting A* to G and others 9 to 1.

Timetables are published separately and behave differently. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, publishes a timetable per zone, and states that it is essential to use the correct version because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of a series and then issues a final version. A revision plan should be built from the document the school's exams officer gives you, not from a date copied off a website. Ask for it as a file rather than a summary, because a paper moved by a day changes which evening the last session before it should sit on.

Core and Extended: the decision that sets the grade ceiling

In tiered Cambridge subjects, the entry decides the highest grade available. A Core entry caps the outcome, typically at grade C or 5, while an Extended entry reaches A* or 9. This is not a marking adjustment made afterwards; it is a property of the papers sat. A student placed on Core in Year 10 who then works hard all year cannot produce an A at the end of it, which is why the set decision deserves a conversation with the school rather than quiet acceptance.

Schools place students on evidence, usually Checkpoint results and internal assessment, and the placement is often made at the end of Year 9 or early in Year 10. It is reversible in some schools and not in others, and the window is usually narrow. If your daughter is close to the boundary, the useful question to the department is what evidence they would need to see to move her, and by what date. That is an answerable question; are you sure is not.

For a family whose daughter is already on Core and whose target is a sixth-form course requiring a 6, the honest answer may be that the tier, not the teaching, is the binding constraint. That is worth hearing early. Tutoring can still raise the grade inside the tier, secure the Core content properly and build the algebra or written structure that the next stage needs, but a tutor telling you an A is available from a Core entry is either confused or selling.

How science practicals are handled when tuition is online

  • Cambridge: practical test or alternative to practical, depending on the entry
  • Pearson: practical understanding assessed within the written papers
  • Marks sit in variables, method improvement, graphs, gradients and anomalies
  • Official papers are referenced on the board's own site, never redistributed

Parents ask this reasonably: if the lessons are online, how does a student prepare for a practical paper. The answer is that neither board awards marks for a performance in front of a tutor. Cambridge assesses practical skills either in a practical test sat at the school or in the alternative to practical paper, which is a written paper about experiments. Pearson assesses practical understanding inside the written papers. In both cases the examined skill is reading, designing and evaluating experiments on paper.

That makes the practical component highly coachable online and, in fact, easier to coach than in a laboratory. The recurring marks are the same every series: identifying the independent, dependent and controlled variables, improving a method so results are repeatable, reading a scale correctly, plotting a line of best fit, calculating a gradient with units, and explaining an anomaly. A tutor can put a method on the shared screen, ask what is wrong with it, and mark the answer against the markscheme.

Where school practical work still matters, and it does, is in building the physical intuition that makes those written answers sensible. A student who has handled a burette knows why a reading is taken at the meniscus. The division of labour is straightforward: the school does the apparatus, the tutor does the paper. A provider claiming to deliver the practical examination itself has misread the specification. What a tutor can add is the habit of reading every method for its weakest control before answering, which is the question examiners keep asking in different clothes.

04

Where the female-tutor request attaches in the IGCSE specification

Some of these requests are general and some are precise, and it helps the match to know which you are making. The general version is about the relationship: a quiet fifteen-year-old, a long one-to-one course, and a parent who would rather the adult in that relationship be a woman. The precise version attaches to specific content, and in IGCSE the content it attaches to is predictable: human reproduction and hormones in Biology, Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education, and sometimes Physical Education theory.

Stating which version you mean has a practical payoff. A family that needs a female Biology tutor for the human physiology unit and has no preference for Mathematics gets a wider pool for Mathematics and a faster match overall. A family that wants a female tutor across five subjects should expect the match to take longer in the scarcer subjects, and should know that before the first lesson rather than during the third week.

The one thing the requirement should not do is lower the subject bar. A Biology tutor still has to know whether the entry is 0610 or 4BI1, which paper assesses practical skills and how the markscheme treats a near-synonym. If the only available tutor who meets the requirement is a generalist who teaches up to Core, the right answer is to say so and wait, not to fill the slot and hope the family does not notice until the mock. Waiting a week for the right specialist is a smaller cost than a term spent at the wrong level, and it is a choice the family should get to make with the facts in front of them.

05

The entry deadline sits months before the paper, and nobody tells you twice

This is the gap no competitor page in the Dubai market fills, and it costs families real money. Entries close long before the examinations are sat, and they are made by the school, which means a student who decides in February to add a subject, move tier or sit a retake may already be too late for that series. The published dates for a Cambridge series make the scale of the lead time obvious.

A Cambridge June candidate's year runs in a fixed order. Final entries close in the spring term, months before the papers, with the exact date on the centre's statement of entry; the forecast grade the school submits is due weeks before the first paper; the examination period itself runs from May into June on the timetable for the zone the centre is allocated to; results follow in August and certificates later in the year. Pearson's November series is the published counterpart, running from late October to 19 November 2026, with results reaching students the following January. Read either sequence backwards: the decision about what a student sits is made months before the first paper, while Year 11 is still in the middle of its content teaching.

Pearson works to its own calendar. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. The practical rule for a Dubai family is to ask the exams officer for three dates in writing at the start of Year 11: the entry deadline, the mock window and the first paper. Everything else in the plan hangs off those.

Ministry of Education equivalency: the five-subject rule, published correctly

Families applying to UAE universities need the Ministry of Education equivalency, and the British-track requirement is specific. Students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, and must also show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than grade E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

That last clause is worth repeating because it is routinely got wrong. One page currently ranking for Dubai tutoring queries tells UAE candidates they must take six IGCSE subjects. The published rule is five, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from the count rather than added to it. A Year 11 family making option decisions on the strength of the wrong number may enter an extra subject they did not need, which costs an entry fee and a term of revision.

Two things we will not do on this page. We will not publish an IB points threshold for equivalency, because the figure has not been read on a Ministry source and the British-track numbers are the only ones verified. And we will not describe equivalency as something a tutoring provider performs or guarantees. It is an application a family makes to the Ministry, and the authority's own channel is the place to verify the current requirement before subjects are locked. Nor does tutoring become a requirement for equivalency: the process is paperwork about grades already earned, and any page implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency.

What IGCSE tutoring costs in Dubai, by subject count rather than by hour

Hourly rates are easy to compare and tell you very little, because the real variable in Year 11 is how many subjects you are supporting and for how long. Two subjects for two terms is a different financial decision from one subject for six weeks before the mock, and the market publishes almost nothing that helps a parent model it. Three of the six pages currently ranking for Dubai tutoring queries publish no price at all, and the two that do quote United States dollars.

The bands below come from published 2026 rate cards and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey, and they are market figures rather than IB Gram prices. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published monthly packages seen in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions.

Use the table to decide where the money does most work. For a subject one grade below target, a weekly session across one term usually beats a block of intensive sessions in April, because the gap is habit rather than content. For a subject two or more grades below, the honest plan starts earlier and costs more. And for a subject where the tier itself is the cap, the most valuable conversation is with the school about the tier, which costs nothing.

Scheduling, coverage and the answer when the match cannot be made

  • Weekday sessions realistically start from 16:30; 18:00 to 20:00 is the busiest window
  • Two subjects belong on two evenings, not one
  • Plan built from your school's mock and coursework dates
  • Ramadan sessions move post-Iftar on weekdays, late morning at weekends
  • Coverage limits and tutor location stated before any booking

Dubai school buses return between roughly 15:15 and 16:30 depending on the community, which rules out most weekday sessions before 16:30 and makes the 18:00 to 20:00 window the most contested in the emirate. Year 11 families with two subjects are better off placing them on different evenings than stacking them, because the second hour of concentration on a school night produces notes rather than learning. Weekend mornings are the most reliably protectable slot across a full term.

Term rhythm matters as much as the weekly slot. The January mock window and the coursework deadlines are the two pressure points, and they fall on different weeks in different Dubai schools, which is why the plan should be built from your school's calendar rather than a generic one. During Ramadan, sessions move to post-Iftar timings on weekdays and to late morning on weekend days, and it is worth booking that shift a fortnight ahead because the post-Iftar window fills quickly.

On coverage, the honest position is the one stated in the table above for the Diploma and it applies here too: Mathematics, the three sciences, English and the main humanities are matched quickly, English as a Second Language and Arabic within about a week in term time, and the scarcer option subjects take longer. If a stated requirement cannot be met this term, you are told before a lesson is booked, including where the available tutor is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

The tutor pool is not limited by your address, but the Dubai school run and the activity timetable decide which slots exist. These are the communities this request most often comes from and the practical window in each.

Al Barsha

Dense cluster of British-curriculum schools within the community itself, so commutes are short and a 16:30 start is realistic four days a week. Year 11 families here often book two subjects on the same evening rather than spreading them across the week.

Al Nahda

Apartment community on the Sharjah border where the school run can run long in both directions. Later starts from 18:00 work better, and families frequently move to weekend mornings during the January mock season to protect weekday evenings for homework.

Discovery Gardens

Large expatriate apartment population with children spread across schools in Al Furjan, Jebel Ali and the Marina corridor. Study space rather than travel is the constraint, so a fixed corner of the flat and headphones matter more than the start time.

Al Furjan

Growing villa and townhouse catchment with several British schools nearby. Two-subject weeks are common in Year 11: one science and one Mathematics session, deliberately on different evenings so the student is not asked to concentrate twice in one night.

Town Square

Newer community with a long commute to the established school corridors, so weekday sessions rarely start before 17:45. Half-term and holiday weeks are used heavily here for past-paper work, because a clear morning is worth more than three tired evenings.

Remraam

Quieter Dubailand community where bus routes arrive late in the afternoon. Weekend morning slots are the easiest to keep across a whole term, and families often pair a Saturday session with marked homework returned mid-week.

International City

Mixed population with students at schools in Al Warqa, Mirdif and Academic City. English as a Second Language and Mathematics are the two most requested subjects, and the female-tutor requirement here is most often stated for the whole subject list rather than per subject.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the entry codes from the school

Ask the exams officer for the board and syllabus code per subject, the tier where the subject is tiered, and the entry deadline for the series your daughter is sitting. Three lines in an email. Everything a tutor does afterwards depends on those codes being right, and assuming them is how a term gets spent on the wrong paper format.

  2. 02

State the requirement and its scope

Say that a female tutor is required and whether that applies to every subject or only to some, such as Biology human physiology, Arabic as a first language or Islamic Education. Scoping it per subject widens the pool for the subjects where you have no preference and usually produces a faster overall match.

  3. 03

    Free 45-minute diagnostic lesson

One lesson, no card details taken, no obligation. The tutor marks a past-paper answer or a recent piece of marked work against the markscheme for the correct syllabus code and reports where the marks went: content, technique, question reading or presentation. Those four problems have four different fixes.

  4. 04

Fix the weekly slot and the term target

Choose a time that survives the school bus and activities, and name the target in the terms the paper uses: a grade, a tier, a specific paper. The plan then has something to be measured against at the halfway point rather than a general sense of whether sessions are going well.

  5. 05

Switch to timed papers before the series

In the final six to eight weeks the format changes: the student sits a paper under timed conditions, the tutor marks it to the published markscheme, and the session covers only the marks that were available. Dates come from the school's zone or series timetable, not from a date copied off a website.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the board, not to the subject name

The tutor is matched to the syllabus code your school entered, so Cambridge 0625 preparation is not sold to a Pearson 4PH1 candidate. Boards differ on tiering, practical assessment and timetables, and a mismatch is invisible until the mock, which is the worst possible moment to discover it.

The tier conversation happens early

If a Core entry caps the grade below your target, you hear that in the first session rather than in May. Tutoring can raise a grade inside a tier and build the content the next stage needs, but it cannot lift a ceiling set at entry, and a tutor who implies otherwise is not worth the fee.

The requirement is a filter, not a footnote

A stated preference for a female tutor is applied before subject matching, so the shortlist already satisfies it. Scope it per subject and the match is usually faster, because the subjects where you have no preference are drawn from the full specialist pool.

Practical papers taught as written papers

Neither board awards practical marks for a performance in front of a tutor. The examined skills are variables, method improvement, graph work, gradients and anomalies, all of which are written skills. Online delivery is a good fit for that, and the school keeps the apparatus.

Entry deadlines published, not assumed

Entries for a Cambridge June series close in the spring term, months before papers sat in May and June, and the Pearson November 2026 window closed on 19 November 2026. Reading the calendar backwards is how a family avoids discovering in the exam term that a retake or a tier change was decided months earlier.

Equivalency stated correctly

Five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. A competitor page currently publishes six. Getting the number right saves a family an entry fee and a term.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How do I find out whether my daughter sits Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel IGCSE?+

Ask the school's exams officer for the board and the syllabus code per subject, in writing. The code is the reliable identifier: 0625 is Cambridge Physics, 4PH1 is Pearson Physics, and they are different courses with different papers. Dubai schools sometimes run different boards in different departments, so the answer can be Cambridge for the sciences and Pearson for Mathematics in the same Year 11. Any tutoring plan built before you have those codes is a guess, and a guess here costs a term of preparing for the wrong paper format.

Can a female tutor cover the human biology topics in IGCSE Biology?+

Yes, and this is one of the two or three places the request is most often made specifically rather than generally. Human reproduction, hormones and coordination sit inside both the Cambridge 0610 and Pearson 4BI1 specifications, and families frequently want a woman teaching that unit to a daughter while having no preference for other subjects. Scoping the requirement that way is useful: it keeps the pool wide for Mathematics and the other sciences, which usually means a faster match overall and a stronger specialist in each subject.

Does a Core entry stop my daughter getting a grade 7 or an A?+

In a tiered Cambridge subject, yes. The tier is a property of the papers sat, not an adjustment made at marking, so a Core entry caps the outcome at around grade C or 5 while Extended reaches A* or 9. If the target is a sixth-form course needing a 6 or better, the tier is the binding constraint and the most valuable conversation is with the department: what evidence would they need to move her, and by what date. Tutoring can still raise the grade inside the tier and build the content the next stage requires.

How are IGCSE science practicals prepared for if lessons are online?+

The examined practical skills are written skills. Cambridge assesses them in a practical test sat at the school or in the alternative to practical paper; Pearson assesses practical understanding inside the written papers. Either way the marks go to identifying variables, improving a method for repeatability, reading scales, plotting lines of best fit, calculating gradients with units and explaining anomalies. All of that is coachable on a shared screen with a method and a markscheme. The school supplies the apparatus and the laboratory experience that makes those written answers sensible.

When do IGCSE entries close for a Dubai school?+

Long before the papers. A Cambridge June entry closes in the spring term, months ahead of an examination period that runs from May into June, and the forecast grade the school submits is due weeks before the first paper. A November entry closes over the preceding summer. Pearson works to its own published calendar for the May/June and November series; its November 2026 papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Entries are made by the school, so a decision taken in the exam term to add a subject, change tier or sit a retake may already be too late. Ask the exams officer for the entry deadline at the start of Year 11.

Why does Cambridge publish more than one exam timetable?+

Because every centre worldwide is allocated to one of six administrative zones and each zone has its own timetable. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Dubai schools sit in a Gulf zone, so a revision calendar built from a United Kingdom timetable found online can place a paper on the wrong day. Work only from the timetable your school's exams officer issues.

How many IGCSE subjects does my daughter need for a UAE university?+

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One page currently ranking for Dubai tutoring queries states six subjects, which is wrong and could cost a family an unnecessary entry. Verify the current rule on the Ministry's own channel before options are locked.

What does IGCSE tutoring cost per hour in Dubai in 2026?+

Published 2026 market rates put a qualified online subject tutor at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and a subject specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more. Budget online tutoring starts lower, around AED 45 to 150. In-home sessions in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 once travel is built into the rate. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey puts monthly spend for one weekly hour at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are market figures, not our price list.

Is one subject a week enough in Year 11, or should we book two?+

It depends on the gap rather than the year. A subject one grade below target is usually a habit problem, which a weekly session across a term fixes well. A subject two or more grades below needs either an earlier start or more sessions. Where two subjects are supported, place them on different evenings: the second hour of concentration on a school night produces notes rather than learning. Most Dubai Year 11 families settle on two subjects on separate evenings, with a third added only during the mock season.

Can a tutor mark my daughter's past papers to the real markscheme?+

Yes, and it is the most useful thing a tutor does in the final term. The student sits a paper under timed conditions, the tutor marks it against the published markscheme for the correct syllabus code, and the session covers the marks that were available rather than the topic in general. What a tutor should not do is circulate board materials: official papers, markschemes and grade-boundary tables are referenced on the board's own site and worked through there, not redistributed as downloads.

My daughter is predicted a 5 in Mathematics and needs a 7. Is that realistic in Year 11?+

Sometimes, and the first session should tell you honestly. Three questions decide it: is she entered on the Extended or Higher tier, how much of the gap is algebraic manipulation rather than topic knowledge, and how far through the specification her school has taught. A two-grade move from a secure Extended base with algebra as the main weakness is a realistic term's work. The same move from a Core entry is not available at all, and no amount of tutoring changes that, so the tier is the first thing to check.

Do you tutor English as a Second Language as well as First Language English?+

Yes, and they are genuinely different courses. First Language English is assessed on response structure, register and precise selection from the passage. English as a Second Language rewards exercise-specific technique: note-making to the given headings, summary inside the word limit and a speaking component marked against published criteria. Dubai has a large cohort sitting the second-language syllabus who are fluent speakers and under-prepared for the paper format, which is a solvable problem and usually a fast one.

Will a tutor help with coursework without crossing a line?+

A tutor can teach the skills a task assesses, explain what the published criteria ask for, and question whether a draft actually answers the task. A tutor cannot supply sentences, insert sources or rework a section into its final state. The student makes every change. The school remains the official process and signs any declaration of authenticity required by the board. Treat an offer to produce assessed work as a warning about everything else on that provider's page, because the consequence of being caught falls on the candidate.

Can sessions be rearranged around the January mock window?+

Yes, and most Dubai families restructure around it rather than adding to it. In the three weeks before mocks the sessions usually switch from content teaching to timed papers with marked returns, and some families pause one subject to double up on another. Mock windows differ by school, so the plan is built from your own school's calendar. Rescheduling a single session is routine; moving a whole slot is easier to do with a fortnight's notice, because the 18:00 to 20:00 window fills quickly in January.

How quickly can a female IGCSE tutor be matched in Dubai?+

For Mathematics, the three separate sciences, English and the main humanities, usually within a few days, with a choice of tutors who meet the stated requirement and the right syllabus code. For English as a Second Language and Arabic as a first language, about a week in term time. Scarcer option subjects such as Accounting or Computer Science take longer. If the requirement cannot be met this term we say so before a lesson is booked, including where the available tutor is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time.

Get the codes, then book the diagnostic

Two emails decide how useful the next term is. One to the school's exams officer asking for the board, syllabus code, tier and entry deadline per subject. One to us stating the subjects, the target grades and whether the female-tutor requirement applies to all of them or only to some. Then take the free 45-minute diagnostic lesson, which takes no card details and carries no obligation: the tutor marks a real piece of work to the markscheme for the correct code and tells you where the marks went. That note is what the decision should rest on.
