Weekend IB Tutor in Dubai

Booking a weekend IB tutor in Dubai buys something a weekday session cannot: an unhurried two-hour block with a student who is not already six hours into a school day. That is long enough to sit a full timed paper, mark it together and still plan the week. This page is about the evidence a weekend slot should produce, week by week: marked scripts, criterion feedback on an internal assessment draft, and movement you can see rather than infer. Lessons run online over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Saturday and Sunday blocks long enough to sit a full timed paper
  • Every session returns marked work against the published markscheme
  • Internal assessment feedback given criterion by criterion, in writing
  • Online one-to-one over live video; the student keeps the marked scripts

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Why the weekend is the only slot where a Diploma student can sit a real paper

The arithmetic of a Dubai school night is unforgiving. The bus returns between about 15:15 and 16:30, there is homework for six subjects, an activity on two or three evenings, and a household that would like to eat together. Into that a family drops a 60-minute tutoring session, usually between 18:00 and 20:00, which is the busiest window in the emirate. Something useful can happen in that hour, but one thing definitely cannot: the student cannot sit a two-hour Paper 2 under timed conditions and then go through it while the decisions are still fresh.

The weekend changes that. Since the UAE moved to a Monday-to-Friday working week with a half-day Friday in January 2022, Saturday and Sunday have been the protected days for most Dubai families, and private schools run Monday to Friday. A Saturday morning block starting at 09:00 or 10:00 gives a Diploma student a clear two hours with a working brain. The paper gets sat properly, the clock gets respected, and the marking conversation happens immediately rather than being deferred to a Tuesday when the student has forgotten why they chose that method.

That is the practical case. The editorial case, and the reason this page is organised the way it is, is evidence. Tutoring in Dubai is frequently sold on reassurance: a nice tutor, an engaged student, a parent who feels better. None of that is evidence. The things that count as evidence are a marked script with a total on it, a criterion-by-criterion note on an internal assessment draft, a list of the specific question types the student is still losing marks on, and the same measurements repeated six weeks later.

Weekend sessions produce that evidence more reliably than weekday ones because the format allows it. There is room for a full paper and the marking. There is room to read an internal assessment draft properly rather than skimming it. And because a weekend slot is usually the only tutoring session of the week, the work between sessions is clearly attributable: whatever changed, changed because of the practice the student did and the feedback they acted on, not because three different adults touched the subject on three different evenings.

The sections below set out what a weekend block should contain, what the internal assessment criteria actually reward, what grade movement is realistic over a term and how to see it in the numbers, how Ramadan and the UAE academic calendar reshape the weekend, and what weekend market rates look like in AED. One section covers the opposite case honestly: the situations where a weekend tutor is the wrong purchase and a different intervention is the right one. Read that one first if you are deciding whether to buy anything at all, because it is the section most likely to save you a term's fees.

At a glance

  • Saturday and Sunday are the protected days; private schools run Monday to Friday
  • A two-hour block fits a timed paper, the marking and the follow-up plan
  • Marked scripts, totals and criterion notes are the evidence to ask for
  • Progress is measured by comparing week one and week six on the same task type
  • Lessons are online one-to-one; IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai
  • During Ramadan, weekend slots move to late morning or post-Iftar
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A weekend block is used differently at each stage of the IB continuum. These are the programmes Dubai families book weekend sessions for, and what the time is actually spent on in each.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. External papers carry most of each subject grade and the internal assessment carries the rest. A weekend block in Year 13 is normally a timed paper plus marking; in Year 12 it is more often internal assessment planning and content consolidation.

Dubai Diploma cohorts are small and their internal deadlines are set by the school rather than the IB, so two students in the same emirate can have internal assessment deadlines eight weeks apart. A weekend plan built from your school's own calendar is therefore different from a generic one, and the first question in a diagnostic session is which deadline is next.

DP coreAges 16-19 · Across both Diploma years

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

The exhibition requires three objects and a commentary of around 1,600 words; the prescribed-title essay is also about 1,600 words; the Extended Essay is 4,000 words with a school-appointed supervisor. Up to three bonus points sit on the 45-point total. These are the components most suited to a weekend slot, because reading and discussing 4,000 words takes longer than an hour.

The Extended Essay supervisor is appointed by the Dubai school and signs the reflection sessions. A weekend tutor works beside that process: testing whether the research question is answerable within the word limit, whether sources are reachable, and whether each section does what the assessment criteria ask. The student writes every word themselves.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, four lettered criteria each, marked 1-8 per criterion and converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries. Weekend blocks here are usually spent learning to read the criteria: what separates a 5-6 band response from a 7-8 one in the same task, and why a detailed answer can still sit in the middle band.

Year 11 is the highest-value year for weekend work in Dubai, because it is the last chance to build timed-writing stamina before Year 12 demands it. Students arriving in the Diploma from a criterion-based, redraft-friendly MYP often meet their first genuinely timed paper in October of Year 12, which is a poor moment to discover the gap.

DP transitionAges 15-16 · The summer and first term

IGCSE or MYP into Diploma Year 12

The bridge most often booked as a weekend block: the step up in abstraction in Mathematics, the jump from structured science questions to extended explanation, and the first encounter with command terms that carry fixed expectations. Six to eight weekend sessions across the summer and early autumn is the common shape.

Dubai students arrive in Year 12 from several different Year 11 experiences: Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel, MYP and an American high-school track. Each leaves a different gap. A weekend diagnostic that marks one piece of recent work tells you which of those gaps you are actually dealing with before any money is spent on a term plan.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects most often booked into a weekend block, with what a two-hour weekend session does for each that a weekday hour cannot.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

A weekend block fits a complete paper plus marking, which matters here more than in any other subject because method marks are only visible in a full script. The recurring finding is that students lose more marks to unshown working and calculator choice than to not knowing the mathematics.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Heavily contextual, so questions are long and reading them accurately takes practice under a clock. Weekend sessions are usually spent on modelling questions and the statistics content, where a correct calculation attached to the wrong interpretation scores a fraction of the available marks.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The internal assessment is the main weekend workload: a two-hour block is long enough to read a draft against the criteria and work through the evaluation section properly. Paper work concentrates on energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, with significant figures and state symbols as the recurring avoidable losses.

Physics

HL and SL

Extended-response explanation is the skill that needs unhurried practice: a causal chain written out in full, then marked against the markscheme line by line. Uncertainty propagation in the internal assessment is the other weekend job, because it cannot be rushed and is where a whole criterion band is usually lost.

Biology

HL and SL

Data-analysis questions carry a large share of the paper marks and are the part students practise least. A weekend block allows a set of unseen data questions to be sat, marked and repeated. Terminology precision is marked strictly, so the marking conversation matters as much as the attempt.

Economics

HL and SL

Three internal assessment commentaries of 800 words each, spread across the two years, which makes this the subject where weekend deadlines bite most predictably. Diagram accuracy is assessed, not decorative, and a weekend session is where a student can redraw a diagram set until the axes and shifts are automatic.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen analysis under time pressure, which is the definition of a task that needs a clear two hours to rehearse. Weekend blocks are also where the individual oral gets rehearsed properly, because a ten-minute delivery plus feedback does not fit inside a weekday hour.

History

HL and SL

Source papers reward provenance analysis and cross-referencing rather than knowledge, and that is a markscheme habit best built on full papers rather than extracts. The HL regional option needs a bank of dated specifics, which weekend sessions can test systematically rather than incidentally.

Business Management

HL and SL

The Higher Level pre-released case study rewards months of structured preparation, which fits a weekly weekend slot better than anything else in the Diploma. Weekend work is mostly applying tools to the stimulus rather than learning them, because unapplied theory scores almost nothing.

Theory of Knowledge

Core · both Diploma years

The exhibition and the prescribed-title essay are both long-form and both benefit from an uninterrupted conversation. A weekend block can test whether an argument actually answers the prescribed title, which is the single most common structural failure and the hardest thing to diagnose in a rushed weekday hour.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three weekend formats cover almost every Dubai request. All run online, one-to-one, over live video with screen sharing, and all three return marked work the student keeps.

Two-hour paper and marking block

The student sits a past paper under timed conditions for the first portion of the block, the tutor marks it live against the published markscheme, and the remainder is spent on the specific question types that lost marks. This is the format the weekend exists for and the one weekday hours cannot carry.

  • Timed conditions enforced, including the reading time the real paper allows
  • Marked to the current markscheme with a total written on the script
  • The student keeps the marked script and the list of recurring losses
  • Usually fortnightly in Year 12, weekly in the final term of Year 13

Internal assessment and core feedback block

A weekend slot booked against a school deadline for an internal assessment, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition or the Extended Essay. The tutor reads what the student has produced, maps it onto the published criteria and returns written notes criterion by criterion. Every change is made by the student.

  • Draft read in full before the session rather than skimmed in it
  • Written note against each criterion, naming the band and the gap
  • No text supplied, no sources inserted, no section finished for the student
  • Runs alongside the school supervisor, never instead of them

Weekly hour plus a monthly long block

A hybrid for families who want contact every week without giving up the long session. A 60-minute weekday or weekend hour keeps the content moving, and one longer weekend block a month exists purely to sit and mark a full paper. Progress is measured on the long blocks.

  • Short session for content, long block for assessment
  • The long block is the measurement point, not the teaching point
  • Work set between sessions and marked at the next one
  • Change of tutor available on request without a reason

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a weekend IB session should leave behind, every single week

A weekend session that produces no artefact has not been measured, and an unmeasured session is indistinguishable from a pleasant conversation. Three things should exist at the end of every weekend block: a piece of the student's work with marks on it, a short written note naming what to practise before the next session, and a running list of the recurring losses that have not yet closed. All three belong to the student rather than to the tutor's records.

The running list is the part families usually skip and the part that does most work. It is not a list of weak topics; it is a list of repeated behaviours. Does not state assumptions in a mechanics question. Drops units in the final line. Writes a narrative when the command term says compare. Starts an essay before deciding what the answer is. Those are the items that recur across papers and subjects, and watching one of them disappear from the list is the most honest progress signal available to a parent.

Marks on a script need context to be readable, which is why the note should also say what the total means. A 31 out of 50 is meaningless alone; a 31 out of 50 on a paper the school's own cohort averaged in the low twenties, or against the same student's 24 four weeks earlier, is information. The table below sets out the week-by-week rhythm a weekend block should follow across a first term, and what a parent should be able to see at each point.

02

The internal assessment is where a weekend block earns its money

Every Diploma subject carries an internal assessment marked by the school against published criteria and then moderated by the IB, and it is typically worth around a fifth of the subject grade. It is also the only component with no clock on it, which is precisely why students under-perform on it relative to their papers. A piece of work with no forcing function gets written in the last available week, and the criteria that reward thinking rather than output are the ones that end up thin.

Weekend blocks suit this work because reading a draft properly takes time. A tutor who skims three pages in a weekday hour can comment on expression; a tutor who has read the whole draft against each criterion before the session can say which band each section currently sits in and what specifically is missing from the one above. That is a different kind of feedback, and it is the kind that moves a mark. The student then makes every change themselves, which is both the rule and the only version that teaches anything.

The weighting table below is indicative and should be confirmed against the current subject guide, because the IB revises guides on a subject-by-subject cycle and your school's coordinator holds the version your child is assessed under. What does not change is the pattern: the criteria rewarding evaluation, reflection and personal engagement are where marks are lost, because they are the ones a student cannot write quickly the night before a deadline.

Sitting a timed paper properly: what two hours on a Saturday actually allows

Timed practice is the most under-used revision method in the Diploma because it is the only one that cannot be done badly without the student noticing. Reading notes feels productive at any speed. A paper sat against a clock produces a number, and the number is either acceptable or it is not. The weekend is the only slot in a Dubai school week where this fits: a Paper 2 plus the marking conversation is two hours minimum, and nobody should be attempting that at 19:30 on a Wednesday.

The discipline matters as much as the length. The paper is sat with the real time allowance including any reading time, with the calculator the exam allows and nothing else, in one sitting, without pausing to check a formula. Most students have never done this outside a mock, which is why mock results surprise them. The first weekend paper of a term is usually worse than the student's school marks suggest, and that gap is the single most useful piece of information the term produces.

Marking immediately afterwards is what turns the exercise into teaching. While the student still remembers why they chose a method, the tutor can ask the question that matters: what did you think that question was asking. A paper marked three days later gets a correction; a paper marked in the same block gets a diagnosis. The schedule below is the shape of a standard two-hour weekend block, and it is deliberately ordinary, because the value is in doing it twelve times rather than in designing it cleverly.

THE SHAPE OF A TWO-HOUR WEEKEND BLOCK

Set-up5 minutesPaper, calculator and time allowance confirmed; camera onRemoves the excuses that make a poor score unreadable

04

What grade movement is realistic in a term, and how to see it in the numbers

  • Habit losses move fastest; missing content moves slowest
  • Compare the same paper type under the same conditions, four to six weeks apart
  • Write the baseline down in week one, however uncomfortable it is
  • No movement by week six means the plan or the tutor changes

Honest answer: it depends almost entirely on what the missing marks are made of. A student losing marks to presentation, question reading and command terms can move a grade band inside a term, because those are habits and habits respond quickly to marked feedback. A student missing a year of content moves more slowly, because content has to be taught before it can be practised, and a weekly weekend block delivers perhaps thirty hours across a year against the school's two hundred.

The way to see movement is to compare like with like. Same subject, same paper type, same conditions, four to six weeks apart. Anything else is noise: a different paper, a kinder markscheme, a topic the student happened to revise. This is why the first weekend block of a term should produce a baseline score that is written down, even when it is uncomfortable, and why the week-six review exists. Without the baseline there is nothing to compare against, and the conversation defaults to whether everyone likes the tutor.

No tutor can promise a grade, and a page that offers one should be read as a warning rather than an offer. What a tutor can promise is the measurement: a baseline, a repeat under the same conditions, and an honest reading of the difference. If there is no movement by week six, the plan should change or the tutor should. Asking for a different tutor needs no explanation, and it is a far better response than waiting another term to see whether things improve on their own.

05

Ramadan, the UAE calendar and what happens to the weekend

The UAE academic year runs from late August or early September to late June or early July, with a winter break in December, a spring break usually around late March or early April, and shorter half-term breaks in between. Dubai private schools publish their own calendars within that frame, which means two schools can have spring break a week apart. Any weekend plan built across a term has to be laid against the school's own published dates rather than a generic UAE calendar.

Ramadan is the bigger reshaping. School days shorten, the useful study window moves to after Iftar, and weekend mornings become either the best slot in the week or an impossible one depending on the household. The two patterns that work are a late-morning weekend block for families who keep daytime hours, and a post-Iftar evening block for those who do not. Both are easier to hold if the change is booked a fortnight ahead, because the post-Iftar window is the most contested slot in the Dubai calendar.

Eid and the spring break then land immediately before the May examination series, which makes them the most valuable weeks of the year for Diploma candidates and the most commonly wasted. A student with a clear morning can sit two papers in a week with proper marking between them, which is more timed practice than a whole term of weekday hours delivers. Families who plan that fortnight in February get it; families who decide in April find the slots gone.

What weekend tutoring costs in Dubai, and whether the day changes the rate

In the online market, the day usually does not change the rate, and the length of the block does. A two-hour weekend block is billed as two hours at the same rate as one, so the question for a family is not whether weekends cost more but whether two hours once a fortnight beats one hour every week. For a student whose problem is paper technique, it generally does. For a student missing content, weekly contact matters more and the long block is better kept monthly.

The in-home market behaves differently, and this is where weekend pricing diverges. A tutor travelling across Dubai on a Saturday morning is giving up a weekend day for one or two sessions, and the published in-home bands reflect that: AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel built in, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor. Monthly in-home packages have been published at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions, against AED 799 a month for eight online sessions.

Those figures come from published 2026 rate cards and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey. They are the market's numbers, not IB Gram's price list, and they are reproduced because most pages ranking for this search publish no price at all. Set them against the KHDA confirmation in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27 under the emirate's economic incentives package, which is the context in which most families are planning this spend.

When a weekend tutor is the wrong purchase

  • Sleep deficit is not a teaching problem and tutoring makes it worse
  • A wrong subject choice is a conversation with the coordinator, not a tutoring plan
  • Two weeks out, we say whether the time left can produce a useful change
  • Declining a booking is sometimes the honest answer

Three situations come up often enough to name. The first is a student who is not sleeping. A Diploma student going to bed at one in the morning is not short of teaching; they are short of recovery, and a Saturday session added to that week makes the problem slightly worse. The honest advice there is to fix the week before buying anything, and a tutor who takes the booking without saying so is selling rather than helping.

The second is a subject that is wrong rather than hard. A student who chose Chemistry Higher Level for a medicine application they no longer want, or who is sitting Mathematics Analysis and Approaches when Applications and Interpretation would serve their degree plan better, has a timetable problem. That conversation belongs with the school's Diploma coordinator, and in Year 12 there is usually still a window to change. Tutoring can hold a wrong subject together for a while, expensively.

The third is a crisis two weeks before a deadline or a paper. Sometimes a short intensive block genuinely helps: a paper format rehearsed, a markscheme habit corrected, a draft read against the criteria. Sometimes the arithmetic simply does not work, and the right answer is to say so and suggest the student spend those two weeks on the three subjects where marks are still reachable. We would rather decline a booking than take money for a plan that cannot produce anything, and the arithmetic is easy to show you on the call.

08

How weekend delivery works, and why it is online

Sessions run online, one-to-one, over live video with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. On a weekend page that is worth stating early, because the weekend is exactly when the in-home model is most expensive and least reliable: a tutor crossing the emirate on a Saturday morning is making a bigger sacrifice than one driving ten minutes on a Tuesday, and the rate and the cancellation risk both reflect it.

The online format also fits what weekend work actually is. A timed paper is sat on paper and photographed or scanned, or typed, and marked on a shared screen where the student can see every annotation as it is made. An internal assessment draft is read in advance and annotated in the document. None of that is improved by the tutor being in the room, and the thing that is improved by online delivery is the choice of tutor: a Higher Level specialist in the subject rather than whoever is available locally at 09:00 on a Saturday.

Coverage is stated before anything is booked. Common Diploma subjects at both levels are matched quickly, including weekend slots; Higher Level option topics and second language A subjects take longer because the specialist pool is small. Where the available tutor is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, we say so rather than implying a local presence. Changing tutor needs no explanation and does not restart anything already paid for.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Weekend availability varies across Dubai less by distance than by what else is in the diary. These are the communities where weekend blocks are most requested and the practical pattern in each.

Dubai Marina

Apartment living with a heavy Saturday activity schedule: swimming, football and music often fill the morning. The 08:30 and 09:00 starts are the ones that survive a whole term here, and families who start later usually find the slot competing with something by week five.

Jumeirah Beach Residence

Similar rhythm to the Marina with more travel at weekends, so Sunday afternoon blocks are more reliable than Saturday ones. Families often book a fortnightly two-hour block rather than a weekly one, with marked work exchanged in between.

Palm Jumeirah

Villa and apartment mix with a high proportion of students at schools across the Marina and Al Sufouh corridors. Saturday late-morning blocks work well, and the internal assessment season in Year 12 is when weekend demand here peaks sharply.

Emirates Hills

Large villas, long school runs out towards Al Barsha and Sheikh Zayed Road, and families who frequently travel at weekends. A fixed Sunday slot survives better than a Saturday one, and sessions are often rescheduled in blocks around travel rather than cancelled singly.

Jumeirah Golf Estates

Quieter community with fewer competing Saturday commitments, which makes it one of the easier places in Dubai to hold a 10:00 Saturday block for a full term. Two-hour paper-and-marking sessions are the standard booking here.

Arabian Ranches 2

Family-heavy villa community where sibling schedules collide at weekends. Consecutive slots for two children on the same morning are common, which online delivery handles without the travel gap an in-home tutor would need between them.

Tilal Al Ghaf

Newer community with longer commutes to the established school corridors, so weekday evening sessions start late and weekend blocks carry more of the work. Holiday weeks are used heavily here for internal assessment drafting.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Name the next deadline

Not the exam in May: the next thing with a date on it. An internal assessment draft due in three weeks, a mock in January, a school test on Friday. Weekend plans built against a real deadline produce evidence; plans built against a general ambition produce sessions. The school's calendar is the source.

  2. 02

    Free 45-minute diagnostic lesson

One session, no card details taken and no obligation to continue. The tutor marks work your child has already done rather than teaching a topic, and returns three specific recurring losses in writing. That list is the baseline for everything afterwards and the thing to judge the tutor on.

  3. 03

Choose the block, not just the hour

Decide between a fortnightly two-hour block, a weekly hour, or a weekly hour plus one long block a month. Paper technique needs the long block; missing content needs weekly contact. Then fix the time against the Saturday activity schedule, because a slot that competes with football will not survive to week six.

  4. 04

Sit a full paper by week four

A baseline score under real conditions, written down, with a mark breakdown. This is the number everything later is compared against, and getting it early is worth more than getting a comfortable one. Most students score below their school marks on a first properly timed paper, and that gap is the useful finding.

Review at week six on the same task

Compare the week-one script and the week-four paper on the same question types. Either the named losses are closing or they are not. If they are not, the plan changes or the tutor changes, and asking for a different tutor needs no explanation and costs nothing already paid for.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The block is long enough to measure something

Two hours fits a timed paper, live marking and a diagnosis. A weekday hour does not, which is why weekday tutoring so often produces an impression of progress rather than a number. The weekend is the only slot in a Dubai school week where measurement is practical.

Marked work the student keeps

Every block returns a script with marks on it, a written note and a running list of recurring losses. Those artefacts belong to the student, which means a parent can read the evidence directly rather than relying on a monthly summary written by the person being paid.

Internal assessment feedback by criterion

Drafts are read in full before the session and returned with a note against each published criterion naming the band and the gap. The student makes every change and writes every sentence. The school supervisor remains the official process and signs the declarations.

Rates published with their sources

AED bands on this page come from published 2026 rate cards and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey, with the format each applies to. They are market figures rather than ours. Most pages ranking for this query publish no price, which leaves parents comparing quotes against nothing.

A calendar that includes Ramadan and the spring break

Weekend plans are laid against your school's own published dates, with timing changes for Ramadan booked a fortnight ahead and the pre-series fortnight planned in February rather than April. That single piece of scheduling is worth more timed practice than a whole term of contested evening hours.

We say when tutoring is the wrong answer

A sleep deficit, a wrong subject choice or a two-week crisis with no reachable marks are not tutoring problems. We will say so and decline the booking rather than sell a plan that cannot produce a change. That is a cheaper conversation than discovering it in week five.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Why book a weekend IB session instead of a weekday evening?+

Because of what fits. A Dubai school bus returns between about 15:15 and 16:30, homework runs across six subjects and activities fill two or three evenings, so a weekday session is realistically one hour between 18:00 and 20:00. That hour cannot contain a two-hour Paper 2 sat under timed conditions plus the marking conversation afterwards. A Saturday morning block can. If your child's problem is paper technique rather than missing content, the weekend is where the useful work actually fits.

Which days count as the weekend for Dubai tutoring?+

Saturday and Sunday. The UAE moved to a Monday-to-Friday working week with a half-day Friday in January 2022, and Dubai private schools run Monday to Friday, so the protected days for most families are Saturday and Sunday. Friday remains a working morning for many parents and carries midday prayers, which is why Friday sessions are less commonly requested than Saturday ones. Saturday mornings from 08:30 to 11:00 are the most contested slots in the week and the ones worth fixing early in the term.

What should my child bring to a weekend session?+

Two things for the first session: the last two pieces of work the school marked, and the next deadline with its date. For later sessions, the practice set from the previous week and anything the school has returned since. Bringing marked work matters more than bringing a topic request, because the diagnosis lives in the script. A session that starts with what shall we do today has already lost twenty minutes of a block you are paying for.

How do I tell whether weekend tutoring is actually working?+

Compare like with like. The same paper type, under the same timed conditions, four to six weeks apart, with both scores written down. If the first paper is sat in week four and the comparison in week eight, the difference is readable. Alongside that, watch the list of recurring losses: items should leave it. What is not evidence is a cheerful session report, a student who likes the tutor, or a school grade that moved for reasons nobody has isolated.

Can a two-hour block really hold a teenager's attention?+

A two-hour block is not two hours of teaching. In the standard shape it is five minutes of set-up, 60 to 75 minutes of the student working alone under exam conditions, 20 to 25 minutes of live marking and ten to fifteen of diagnosis. The attention demand is the same as the exam the student will sit, which is the point: a student who cannot concentrate for 75 minutes on a Saturday morning will not manage it in the examination hall either, and discovering that in October is useful.

How much of the internal assessment can a tutor be involved in?+

A tutor can teach the content the investigation needs, explain what each published criterion asks for, read a draft in full and return written notes naming which band each section currently sits in. A tutor cannot supply sentences, insert sources, or rework a section into its final state. Your child makes every change and writes every word. The school-appointed supervisor remains the official process and signs the declarations. Any provider offering to produce the work itself is creating a malpractice risk that falls on the candidate.

Do weekend sessions cost more than weekday ones in Dubai?+

In the online market, generally not: published 2026 rates put a qualified online subject tutor at AED 150 to 300 an hour and a specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more, regardless of the day. In-home sessions are where the weekend premium shows, because a tutor giving up a Saturday to cross the emirate commands more, and published in-home bands run AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. Monthly published figures: AED 799 for eight online sessions, AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Is a fortnightly two-hour block better than a weekly hour?+

For paper technique, usually yes, because the measurement only fits in the long block. For missing content, no: content needs frequent contact and small steps, and a fortnight is long enough for a half-learned method to decay. Many Dubai families settle on a hybrid, with a weekly hour for content and one long block a month as the measurement point. The decision should follow the diagnostic rather than the diary, and it is worth revisiting at the week-six review.

What happens to weekend sessions during Ramadan?+

They move, and it is worth booking the change a fortnight in advance. The two patterns that work are a late-morning weekend block for households keeping daytime hours and a post-Iftar evening block for those that do not. School days shorten, so weekday afternoons are quieter and some families temporarily move the long block to a weekday. Timed-paper work is harder during fasting hours, so Ramadan is usually better spent on internal assessment drafting and content consolidation than on full papers.

Is the spring break worth booking tutoring in?+

It is the highest-value fortnight of the Diploma year, and it is the one most often wasted. A student with clear mornings can sit two full papers in a week with proper marking between them, which is more timed practice than a whole term of contested evening hours delivers. It also sits immediately before the May series, so what is practised is still fresh. Slots fill from about February, so the families who get that fortnight are the ones who booked it before the January mocks.

Can one weekend tutor cover two of my child's subjects?+

Sometimes, and it is worth being careful about. A Mathematics and Physics pairing is common and works well because the overlap is real. A Chemistry and English pairing is not a specialism, it is a generalist, and Diploma marks are lost in subject-specific technique that a generalist cannot diagnose. Two shorter blocks with two specialists usually beats one long block with someone covering both. Where you have two subjects and one weekend morning, consecutive slots with different tutors are straightforward online.

My child is in Year 13 with mocks done. Is a weekend block still worth starting?+

Yes, and the plan narrows. After mocks there is no case for content teaching except where a mock exposed a specific untaught topic. The weekend block becomes paper work only: sit, mark, diagnose, repeat, with the subject list cut to the two or three where marks are most reachable. Spreading a final term of tutoring across five subjects is how families spend a lot and move nothing. The honest conversation in session one is about which subjects to drop from the plan.

What if there is no movement after six weeks?+

Then the plan changes or the tutor does. Six weeks of marked evidence is enough to tell whether the named losses are closing, and if they are not, something in the diagnosis was wrong: the wrong losses identified, content gaps mistaken for habit gaps, or a tutor and student who are not working. Asking for a different tutor needs no explanation and does not restart anything you have already paid for. Waiting another term to see is the expensive option.

Are weekend slots actually available, or is the calendar already full?+

Saturday mornings between 08:30 and 11:00 are the most contested slots in the Dubai week and they go first, particularly in January and in the final term. Sunday afternoons are easier. For common Diploma subjects a weekend slot is usually available within a few days; for Higher Level option topics and second language A subjects it takes longer, because the specialist pool is small before any timing constraint is applied. Where the tutor is based outside the UAE and teaching into Gulf Standard Time, we say so before you book.

Where do the lessons take place?+

Online, one-to-one, over live video with a shared whiteboard and screen sharing, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we run only in India. That matters most at weekends, because the in-home model is at its most expensive and least reliable on a Saturday morning. Online delivery means the tutor is chosen for being a Higher Level specialist in the subject rather than for being available locally at 09:00.

Book the diagnostic, then ask for the baseline paper

Start with the free 45-minute diagnostic, which takes no card details and carries no obligation: the tutor marks work your child has already done and returns three specific recurring losses in writing. Then fix a weekend block and ask for a full timed paper by week four, with the score written down. Those two artefacts, the loss list and the baseline, are what every later session gets measured against. If the losses are not closing by week six, say so and change the plan or the tutor. That is the whole method, and it is deliberately dull.
