IB DP Global Politics Tutor in Dubai

An IB DP global politics tutor in Dubai is priced like a humanities tutor and needs to be hired like a specialist, which is where families lose money. The published local market runs from about AED 45 an hour for general tuition to AED 450 and above for a Diploma subject specialist. This page shows what each tier can actually do in this subject, and why the same result costs roughly half as much if bought in the first Diploma year. Lessons are one-to-one, live over video, and the first is free.

The same result, bought twice, at two completely different prices

Global Politics is an unusually honest test of when to buy tutoring rather than how much to pay for it. Published rates in Dubai run from AED 33 to 52 an hour at Tutopiya's budget end and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik's, through AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor, to the AED 200 to 450 and above specialist band on Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table, with BartyED publishing AED 650 for premium named tutoring. Those are the market's numbers. What nobody publishes is the far more consequential figure: how many hours the same improvement takes depending on when you start.

The arithmetic is stark in this subject. A candidate supported from the first term of DP1 builds a case-study record as the course is taught, learns concept-led writing on low-stakes essays, and chooses an engagement focus with time to do it properly. That is roughly twelve to eighteen hours across two years. The same candidate reached after the DP2 mocks needs the case-study record built retrospectively from memory, the writing habit changed under deadline pressure, and the engagement component rescued, which is twenty-five hours in a term and a smaller movement at the end of it.

The second thing families underestimate is how specialised this apparently general subject is. Global Politics is not current affairs and it is not history. It is a concept-led course in which answers are built out of the course's own analytical vocabulary and supported by case studies the student has prepared. A well-read, articulate Dubai teenager who writes a fluent essay about a conflict without using the course's concepts will score a 4 or a 5, repeatedly, and no amount of additional reading changes that. A tutor who has not taught the course will not spot it.

The third is the engagement component, which is the part most likely to go wrong and the least likely to be covered in a quote. It needs a focus that is lawful and appropriate for a student living in the UAE, agreed with the school, non-partisan, and genuinely achievable alongside five other subjects. Choosing badly is expensive in time rather than money, and families rarely discover the problem until the school's internal deadline makes it visible. Settle it in DP1 and the component is manageable; leave it to February and it dominates everything.

So this page is ordered by what actually decides the invoice. It opens with the published Dubai tiers and what each one can and cannot do in this subject, then prices the same improvement at three starting points so the cost of waiting is visible. After that come the case-study record, the concept-led writing move, the engagement component, and the screening question that separates a subject specialist from a capable essay tutor. The last sections cover the calendar counted backwards, what a parent can verify before paying, and what we do when nobody suitable is free.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Global Politics exists only in the Diploma years, but its demands are recognisable earlier in the IB continuum: handling contested evidence, holding two positions at once, and writing to a concept rather than around a topic. Here is what each programme a Dubai school runs contributes.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Individuals and Societies builds the groundwork through criterion C on communicating and criterion D on thinking critically, where students learn to evaluate competing accounts rather than report one. The useful inheritance is comfort with disagreement. The gap is vocabulary: MYP rewards a well-argued position in plain language, while the Diploma expects the course's own analytical concepts to carry the argument.

Dubai MYP cohorts are often strong on discussion and weaker on written structure, partly because class debate is a natural fit for an international student body with wide experience. Departments here report the same DP1 pattern annually: articulate students whose first Global Politics essays read as well-informed opinion rather than as concept-led analysis.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Global Politics runs across both Diploma years in Group 3 at Standard or Higher Level, built around core thematic units and a set of analytical concepts, with written papers and an engagement component in which the student investigates a political issue through their own involvement with it. Higher Level adds an extension. The course has been revised, so confirm the current structure in the IB subject guide at ibo.org.

Global Politics is offered in a minority of Dubai Diploma schools, and where it runs the cohort is often very small. A candidate may be one of three or four in their year, which makes an outside specialist the only person other than the teacher who can discuss the subject with them at the level the examination expects.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The Career-related Programme pairs Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Global Politics pairs naturally with career studies in business, law or international relations, and a CP candidate sits the same papers and completes the same engagement component, so subject support is identical.

Few Dubai schools run the Career-related Programme. For a CP candidate taking Global Politics the practical risk is calendar collision: the reflective project, the career-related study and the engagement component all want the same months, and in a small cohort there is no peer group going through the sequence alongside them to compare notes with.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Global Politics is a set of core thematic units, a layer of analytical concepts that carry every answer, and a component built on the student's own engagement with a political issue. Below is what a tutor works on with a Dubai candidate.

Power, sovereignty and international relations

Core unit, both levels

States, non-state actors, intergovernmental organisations, legitimacy and the different forms power takes. Marks go missing when a candidate describes an institution rather than analysing how power operated in a specific episode, which is what the question almost always asks.

Human rights

Core unit, both levels

Rights frameworks, claims and contestation, enforcement and the gap between declaration and practice. Strong candidates handle contested cases with precision and restraint; weaker ones write moral commentary, which the markbands do not reward however strongly felt.

Development

Core unit, both levels

Contested meanings of development, measurement, pathways and the role of aid, trade and debt. This is the unit where quantitative evidence helps most, and where Dubai candidates most often assert a general picture when a named indicator with a date was available.

Peace and conflict

Core unit, both levels

Causes and types of conflict, intervention, peacebuilding and justice after violence. The most popular unit with students and the one most prone to narrative answers, because the material is dramatic and the concepts get left behind in the storytelling.

The analytical concepts

Across all units

The course's own vocabulary is the spine of every good answer: it tells the examiner which lens the candidate is applying. Confirm the current concept list in the subject guide, because it was revised, and then use the concepts as the structure of a paragraph rather than as decoration.

The source-based paper

Both levels

Short and extended responses built on unseen stimulus material. The evaluative question is where the paper is won or lost, and candidates routinely run out of time on it because they over-wrote the earlier parts, which are worth considerably less.

The essay paper

Both levels

Extended responses requiring a concept-led argument supported by prepared case studies. A candidate with two well-recorded case studies per unit can answer almost anything; a candidate relying on memory of the news cannot, however informed they are.

The engagement component

Internal assessment, both levels

An investigation of a political issue through the student's own engagement with it, written up within a stated limit. Confirm the current name, length and requirements with the coordinator. Most failures trace to a focus chosen late or too broad to investigate within the time available.

The Higher Level extension

Higher Level only

Additional work on global political challenges, assessed through presented work rather than a written paper. It is routinely under-rehearsed because it sits outside the examination timetable and therefore outside most revision plans until very late.

Case-study discipline

All components

Named actors, dates, outcomes, a concept the case illustrates, and a source for each claim. One page per case, two cases per unit, built during the course. This single habit distinguishes almost every top-band candidate from a well-read mid-band one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Global Politics support splits into three jobs with different prices and different cadences: building the case-study record, changing the writing habit, and getting the engagement component through its school deadlines. Buying one weekly hour and hoping it serves all three is the standard way to spend a term without moving a grade.

DP1 build, fortnightly

Sixty minutes every second week through the first year, spent half on the unit being taught and half on recording case studies properly while the material is fresh. This is the cheapest shape per mark across two years, and the one that makes the engagement component manageable because the focus gets chosen with time in hand.

  • Two case studies recorded per unit, one page each, as the unit is taught
  • Concept-led paragraph structure practised on low-stakes essays
  • Engagement focus narrowed and tested during the first year

Essay marking across a term

An essay sat to the clock between sessions, marked before the session with the band named and three corrections written, and read back during the hour. Weekly or fortnightly for at least a term, because the thing being changed is a writing habit and habits respond to repetition rather than to intensity.

  • The essay is always written before the session, never during it
  • Every paragraph checked for a named concept doing real work
  • A running list of recurring faults the student maintains themselves

Engagement and extension block

Three to five sessions pinned to the school's internal deadlines: testing whether the focus can be investigated at all, planning the engagement itself, reading the write-up against the requirements, and rehearsing the Higher Level extension work out loud, which almost nobody practises until it is too late.

  • Focus tested for lawfulness, appropriateness and feasibility before any work starts
  • Write-up read against each requirement with the criteria open
  • Higher Level presented work rehearsed and timed, not just planned

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What each price tier can actually do in this subject

Global Politics sits in an awkward place in the Dubai market. It looks like a general humanities subject, so it is often quoted at general humanities rates, and a well-read tutor can hold an interesting conversation about any topic in it. That conversation is not what the examination rewards. The course is built on its own analytical concepts, and an answer that does not deploy them scores in the middle no matter how informed it is, so the tier you buy matters more here than in a subject where content knowledge is most of the grade.

The table below sets out the published bands with what each tier reliably delivers. The pattern is consistent: the lower tiers are good at information and discussion, and the specialist tier is what you need for the three things that actually move this grade, which are concept-led writing, the engagement component and the Higher Level extension. Paying the specialist rate for general discussion is a waste, and paying the general rate for the specialist jobs is a term spent pleasantly without a change in the mark.

One claim to treat carefully at the top of the market. No tutor should be presented as a current IB examiner without evidence, and examiner status must never be implied to give access to marking, grade boundaries or unseen paper content. Nor should any provider describe itself as approved, accredited or licensed by the IB, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education. IB Gram holds none of those. What a tutor can legitimately offer is what they have taught, a method, and a marked script you can read for yourself.

Why the same improvement costs roughly half as much in DP1

This is the figure no competitor page in this search will give you, and it matters more than any hourly rate. The cost of support in Global Politics is driven almost entirely by when it starts, because two of the three jobs are cumulative. A case-study record built while a unit is being taught takes twenty minutes per case. The same record built in April from half-remembered reading takes an hour per case and is less accurate. The engagement component chosen in DP1 is a manageable piece of work; chosen in February it is a crisis with a deadline attached.

Essay technique behaves differently again. It is not cumulative, but it is slow: it changes over a term of marked attempts, not over an intensive fortnight, because what is being replaced is a habit of writing fluent informed prose with a habit of writing concept-led argument. A student can be told the difference in ten minutes and will need six marked essays to do it reliably under timed conditions. That is a calendar constraint rather than a money constraint, which is why February purchases buy less than their price suggests.

The table below prices the same improvement at three starting points, using the published specialist band rather than any price of ours. Read the final column rather than the money column. A DP1 start can realistically aim at a grade change and a comfortable engagement component. A post-mock start can realistically aim at a grade change on the written papers only. A final-month start can aim at technique on one paper and better question choice, which is worth having and is not the same product.

03

The case-study record: the cheapest asset in this subject

Ask a top-band Global Politics candidate what they did differently and the answer is almost never that they read more. It is that they kept a record. Two case studies per core unit, one page each, built while the unit was being taught, with named actors, dates, outcomes, the concept the case illustrates and a source for every claim. Eight pages by the end of the course. A candidate with that folder can answer almost any essay question on the paper; a candidate relying on a general awareness of world events cannot, however well informed they are.

The format matters more than the volume, which is why the table below specifies it. A case recorded as a narrative is useless under exam pressure because the student has to reconstruct the argument while writing. A case recorded as a concept with evidence attached is immediately deployable: the student knows which question it answers, which concept it illustrates, and which two facts support the claim. Converting a student's existing notes into that format is often the single most productive two hours in a whole plan.

Keeping it honest is part of the exercise. Every figure wants a date and a source, and students should prefer the original publisher over a summary of it. Where a case is contested, the record should note the disagreement rather than choosing a side, because that disagreement is usable material in an evaluative answer. This habit also protects the student: a candidate who has recorded where every claim came from cannot accidentally reproduce a model-generated assertion as if it were established fact.

THE CASE-STUDY RECORD FORMAT - TWO CASES PER UNIT, ONE PAGE EACH
Core unitWhat to recordWhat makes it usable in an examWhere to verify
Power, sovereignty and international relationsThe actors involved, the form of power exercised, the outcome, the dateA named episode tied to a specific concept rather than an institution describedThe organisation's own published documents and reputable reporting of them
Human rightsThe right claimed, who contested it, the mechanism invoked, the resultPrecision about the framework used, and restraint in the languagePrimary texts of the relevant conventions and the body's own published findings
DevelopmentTwo named indicators with dates, the policy, the measured changeA number with a date beats a sentence about progress every timePublished statistical releases from the issuing agency rather than news summaries
Peace and conflictCauses, the type of conflict, intervention if any, the state of resolutionA conflict framed as an analytical case rather than told as a storyMultilateral organisation reporting and dated academic summaries
Any unit, contested caseBoth readings of the case and the reason each reads the evidence that wayUsable directly in the evaluative half of a questionTwo sources that disagree, each cited with its date
04

Concept-led writing: the move that separates a 5 from a 7

The commonest profile in a Dubai Global Politics class is a student who is genuinely interested in the world, reads widely, argues well in discussion, and scores 5. The essays are fluent and accurate and could have been written by a bright student who had never taken the course. That is precisely the problem. The markbands reward analysis conducted through the course's own concepts, and an essay that reaches a sensible conclusion without that machinery has demonstrated general intelligence rather than subject learning.

The repair is narrow and teachable. Each paragraph should name the concept it is using, apply it to a specific case, and say what the application shows about the question. Named concept, specific evidence, consequence for the argument. Once a student writes three paragraphs in that shape, the difference against their previous work is visible to them without anybody explaining it, which is why this is taught by marking rather than by lecturing. Six marked essays is the typical distance between the two habits.

There is a related failure worth naming because it is common in articulate students: moral commentary. A paragraph that explains why a situation is unjust is not analysis, and markbands do not reward strength of feeling. The higher-scoring version takes the same conviction and converts it into mechanism: which actor had what power, what the constraint was, what the framework permitted, and what the evidence shows about the outcome. Students find this a relief rather than a restriction once they see the marks it produces.

05

The engagement component: time, feasibility and choosing well in the UAE

The engagement component asks a student to investigate a political issue through their own engagement with it, and then to write that up within a stated limit. Confirm the current name, length and precise requirements with your child's coordinator, because the course has been revised and tutoring websites are slow to catch up. What has not changed is the failure mode: a focus chosen late, or chosen too broadly, leaves a student with a deadline and nothing to analyse.

Choosing well in the UAE means choosing something lawful, appropriate and agreed with the school, which is less limiting than it sounds. Non-partisan, issue-based engagement is both the safest and the strongest option: climate and water governance, humanitarian and refugee support through a registered organisation, access to education, public health, or the sustainable development agenda. The course does not require domestic political activity and a student should not be looking for any. It requires genuine engagement with an issue and honest analysis of what that engagement revealed.

Then test feasibility before any time is committed. Can the student actually engage, with whom, by when, and what will they be able to describe afterwards? A focus that depends on access nobody has agreed to give is a focus that fails in month three. This is where two hours of supervision in DP1 saves ten hours of rescue work in DP2, and it is the part of a quote families most often forget to ask about. Confirm explicitly whether engagement supervision is inside the plan or billed separately.

06

Why the cheaper non-specialist option rarely works here

Every subject has a version of this question and in Global Politics the answer is unusually clear. A good general humanities tutor brings real value: essay discipline, paragraph structure, timing, and the habit of answering the question asked. Those transfer from History or English and they are worth paying for if that is the diagnosed problem. What does not transfer is knowing which concept a given question is actually about, and that is the thing standing between a 5 and a 7 for most candidates in this emirate.

The failure is quiet, which is what makes it expensive. Sessions are enjoyable, the student talks confidently, essays come back with sensible comments about structure, and the mark does not move. Two months later the diagnosis is the same as it was at the start. The parent concludes that tutoring does not work for this subject, when what happened was that a structural problem was treated with structural help while the actual problem was subject-specific and untouched.

The screening question that separates the two takes thirty seconds. Give a prospective tutor a past essay title and ask which concepts a strong answer would be built on and why. A specialist names them, explains what each one lets the candidate argue, and mentions a case that illustrates it. A generalist talks about structure and balance, which is good advice about essays and no advice at all about this course. Ask it before you book, and ask whether they have taught the revised course or the previous version.

07

The Global Politics year counted backwards

No page competing for this search publishes a calendar, which is a strange omission in a subject where the calendar determines the cost. Two of the three components are deadline-driven and school-set rather than examination-driven: the engagement write-up and, at Higher Level, the presented extension work. Both get dearer the later they start and both are governed by the Diploma coordinator's internal dates rather than by the IB's. Get those dates in DP1 and the plan writes itself.

Work backwards from the written papers. Before them sit the mocks, which are the only free diagnostic a family gets. Before those sits the school's internal submission window for the engagement write-up, usually weeks ahead of the IB's own deadline. Before that sits the engagement activity itself, which needs real time. And before everything sits the choice of focus, which is a DP1 decision in every well-run plan and a February emergency in every badly run one.

Be cautious with IB dates from any tutoring source, this one included. UAE schools sit the May session and results reach candidates during the following summer, but the windows change between years and the IB is the publisher. Confirm every date with your child's coordinator or at ibo.org before planning around it. For a sibling sitting Cambridge or Pearson qualifications in the same household, note that Cambridge allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones and that using the wrong zone timetable is the family's risk to manage.

Permits, trial conditions and what a Dubai parent can verify

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful and regulated, and knowing the detail gives you a question that sorts the professionals from the opportunists quickly. Individuals offering private lessons need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so disregard any amount you see quoted.

There is a second rule worth knowing in a small-cohort subject. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify against the current policy, but the principle is sound anywhere in the country: your child's own classroom teacher is not the right person to hire privately, however convenient it looks.

On money, settle three things in writing before paying. Whether the quoted figure includes VAT. What the condition on any free trial is, since a trial with an undisclosed condition is not free; ours is one lesson per student with no card details taken. And what happens if the tutor becomes unavailable mid-term. Add a fourth for a lead form: ask what personal data about your child is collected, why, and how it is deleted, since UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection applies and a form asking for a school, grades and a photograph with no stated purpose deserves a question.

Availability, delivery and the honest version of getting started

Global Politics is offered in a minority of Dubai Diploma schools, so the specialist pool is small and we would rather say so than quietly allocate a general humanities tutor to a subject-specific job. A Standard Level request on a weekday evening is usually matched within a few days. A Higher Level request that also needs extension rehearsal, in the fortnight before a mock series, is the hardest booking in this subject's calendar and sometimes cannot be filled at the hour asked for. No competitor page researched for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

Delivery is online, one-to-one, over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Sessions are recorded so a student can rewatch a read-back instead of relying on notes taken while being corrected, essays are annotated and shared as files so a parent can read exactly what was marked, and the Higher Level presented work can be rehearsed to camera, which is a genuine advantage of this format. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a home anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India, and this page states it rather than leaving it to be discovered later.

In-home tuition does exist in this market, published at AED 180 to 350 an hour on Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table with some home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500. The premium buys presence, and in a subject this thinly offered it also narrows the field severely: a family in The Springs hiring locally is choosing among Diploma Global Politics specialists willing to drive inland for a 6.30pm start, which may be a list of nobody. Online, the same family chooses among everyone who teaches the course at that hour, which is the entire argument for this format in one sentence.

Areas we cover across Dubai

For a Global Politics family in Dubai the practical questions are when a session can start after the school run, and whether the student has concentration left for an essay. Below are the communities the enquiries come from.

Emirates Hills, Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

The deepest band of Diploma provision in the emirate, and where Global Politics is most likely to be offered at all. Requests from here are weighted towards the Higher Level extension and towards marked essays rather than content teaching.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Sufouh

Established Diploma schools and short commutes, so a five o'clock start is realistic. A common request here is a later slot for a candidate who also carries Arabic as a first language, which has its own after-school load on the same evenings.

Business Bay, Downtown Dubai and DIFC

Apartment living, short school runs, and students who follow international news closely. The purchase from this band is almost always concept-led writing rather than information, because the raw awareness is already there.

Dubai Hills Estate and Al Quoz

Short runs to several Diploma schools and families who prefer ninety-minute sessions, which suits an essay subject: a timed response and the read-back afterwards do not fit inside an hour without rushing one of them.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

Later bus arrivals push a realistic start past half past six, and the Diploma cohorts here are smaller. A Global Politics candidate in this band is often the only one in their year, which makes outside discussion unusually valuable.

Arabian Ranches, The Springs and Motor City

Inland, with forty-minute school runs at the wrong hour and almost no local specialist supply for a subject this thinly offered. Weekend morning sessions dominate here, and they suit essay marking better than a tired weekday evening.

Where Global Politics is most reliably offered, usually with a specialist teacher and a settled approach to the engagement component. Families in this band typically ask for marked essays and Higher Level extension rehearsal rather than for content teaching.

  • Dubai International Academy - Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy - Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Dubai International Academy - Al Barsha

Jumeirah, Deira and the Festival City corridor

Where cohorts are smallest and the subject is sometimes taught by a teacher whose main subject is History or Economics. Requests from this corridor lean towards the analytical concepts and towards finding an engagement focus that can actually be investigated.

  • Raffles World Academy
  • Deira International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Uptown International School
  • Universal American School

Schools are named here as market context for Dubai Global Politics families. IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or commercial relationship with any school listed above.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the deadlines and the engagement status

A useful first message names the level, the school's internal deadline for the engagement write-up, whether a focus has been agreed, and whether the Higher Level extension has been started. Those four facts set the plan and therefore the total, because in this subject the calendar drives the cost far more than the hourly rate does.

  2. 02

A free diagnostic hour built on one timed essay

The first lesson is free, one per student, with no card details taken. It is built around an essay sat beforehand, returned with the band named, the concepts that should have carried each paragraph identified, and three specific corrections. That single artefact shows whether you are buying concepts, case studies or structure.

  3. 03

A plan with the hours, the total and the deadlines on it

The plan states which component comes first and why, how many marked essays are included, whether engagement supervision is inside it, and what the whole thing costs. Compare that against the AED bands published for Dubai in the first table on this page. A plan with no total cannot be evaluated by anybody.

  4. 04

Monthly review, with the plan written to finish

Each month brings the marked essays and a short written note on which band they now reach and what has not changed. The target is a student who can name the concepts a question needs before anyone prompts them. At that point the plan should end rather than renew as a standing weekly booking.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by what each tier can actually do

The published Dubai bands are on this page with the provider that published each one named, and so is what each tier cannot do in this subject. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which leaves a parent nothing to compare a quote against.

Timing treated as the real cost driver

Two of the three jobs in this subject are cumulative, so a DP1 start buys the same improvement for roughly half the hours of a post-mock start. We say that plainly even when it means telling a February enquiry that the engagement component is now whatever it already is.

Concept-led writing taught by marking, not by lecturing

Named concept, specific evidence, consequence for the argument. Students see the difference against their own previous work within three paragraphs, which is why this is taught through marked essays rather than explained in a session. Six marked essays is the usual distance between the two habits.

Engagement supervision priced inside the plan

The component most likely to go wrong is the one most often left out of a quote. Our plans state how many sessions cover the engagement focus, the activity and the write-up, pinned to the school's internal deadlines rather than to the examination session.

Online delivery, because the specialist pool here is small

There are no home visits in the UAE. For a subject offered in a minority of Dubai schools, that is the difference between choosing among the specialists willing to drive to your community and choosing among everyone who teaches the course at your hour, which in this subject is a much shorter and a much longer list respectively.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an hour of Global Politics tuition in Dubai buy at each price tier?+

At AED 33 to 150, where Tutopiya and EdFlik advertise their from-rates, you get content explanation and general awareness building. At AED 150 to 300, which is where general humanities tutors and many qualified subject teachers sit, you get essay structure and some marking. At AED 200 to 450 and above, the specialist band on Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table, you get the three things that actually move this grade: concept-led writing, the case-study record and engagement supervision. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Match the tier to the diagnosed job rather than to the budget.

Why is Global Politics cheaper to fix in the first Diploma year?+

Because two of the three jobs are cumulative. A case study recorded while the unit is being taught takes about twenty minutes; rebuilt in April from half-remembered reading it takes an hour and is less accurate. An engagement focus chosen in DP1 is an ordinary piece of work, while the same choice made in February is a deadline emergency. Essay technique is the exception: it is not cumulative but it is slow, needing around six marked essays across a term. Together that is why a DP1 plan is typically twelve to eighteen hours and a post-mock plan twenty to twenty-five.

What should a case-study record actually contain?+

One page per case, two cases per core unit, each containing the named actors, the dates, the outcome, the concept the case illustrates, and a source line against every figure. The format is what makes it usable: a case recorded as a narrative has to be reconverted into an argument while writing under time pressure, whereas a case recorded as a concept with evidence attached is immediately deployable. Where a case is contested, note both readings and why each reads the evidence that way, because that disagreement is directly usable in the evaluative half of an answer.

Can a general humanities tutor teach Global Politics at a lower rate?+

For some jobs, genuinely yes. Essay discipline, paragraph structure, timing and answering the question asked all transfer from History or English, and if that is the diagnosed problem then a general tutor at AED 150 to 300 is good value. What does not transfer is knowing which concept a question is really about, which is the gap between a 5 and a 7 for most candidates. The failure is quiet: pleasant sessions, sensible comments on structure, and a mark that does not move for two months. Diagnose first, then choose the tier.

How do we know whether the problem is content or concept-led writing?+

Read a marked essay. If the facts are thin or wrong, it is content, and that closes in a few hours per unit. If the essay is accurate, fluent and well organised and still scores in the middle, it is almost certainly the concepts: the answer reaches a sensible conclusion without using the course's analytical machinery, which is exactly what the markbands do not reward. A third possibility worth checking is moral commentary, where the paragraph explains why something is unjust rather than analysing which actor held what power under what constraint.

My child writes well but never uses the course's concepts. Is that the issue?+

It is the most common single issue in this subject, and the repair is narrower than it sounds. Each paragraph should name the concept it is using, apply it to a specific prepared case, and state what that application shows about the question asked. Named concept, specific evidence, consequence for the argument. Once a student has written three paragraphs in that shape the difference against their earlier work is obvious to them without explanation, which is why this is taught through marked essays. Expect about six marked attempts before the habit holds under timed conditions.

How much tutoring time does the engagement component realistically need?+

Three to five sessions, if they are placed correctly. One to test whether the focus can actually be investigated and is lawful, appropriate and agreed with the school. One to plan the engagement itself and the note-keeping that goes with it. One or two to read the write-up against each requirement with the criteria open. Booked as milestones against the school's internal deadlines rather than as a weekly slot. Confirm the current name, length and requirements with your child's coordinator, because the course has been revised and tutoring sites are slow to update.

Can an engagement activity be done entirely online?+

Often yes, and for a student in Dubai with a crowded timetable that can be the practical choice. Remote involvement with a registered organisation working on an issue, structured correspondence, participation in a documented programme, or sustained research engagement with practitioners can all support the component. What matters is that the engagement is genuine, that the student keeps notes as it happens rather than reconstructing them, and that the school agrees it meets the requirements. Confirm the format with the coordinator before committing time, since schools interpret the expectations with some variation.

Does the Higher Level extension need separate paid sessions?+

Usually three to five, and they are the most reliably under-bought hours in this subject. The extension work is presented rather than written, sits outside the examination timetable, and therefore falls outside most revision plans until the final fortnight. Rehearsing it out loud and to time is the whole job, and it is work that video delivery happens to suit well because the student can practise to camera and watch the recording back. At the published specialist band that is roughly AED 600 to 2,250, and it is the cheapest discrete purchase available at Higher Level.

Is a package or pay-as-you-go better for an essay subject like this?+

A standing arrangement suits the essay-marking job, because that work is continuous and needs a rhythm of one attempt per fortnight or week. It suits the engagement and extension work badly, since those cluster around school deadlines and a monthly block pays for the quiet weeks in between. Monthly online packages advertised in the emirate sit around AED 799 for eight sessions, and in-home blocks at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Ask for the session length in minutes, whether unused sessions carry over, and what notice a cancellation needs.

What should the free first lesson produce in Global Politics?+

A marked essay, not a conversation. Ask for one timed response sat beforehand, returned with the band named, the concepts that should have carried each paragraph identified, and three specific corrections. A specialist produces that and can tell you within the hour whether you are buying concepts, case studies or structure. A generalist returns comments about balance and organisation and proposes a package. The marked script is also what lets you judge whether a quoted total at the AED 200 to 450 specialist band is reasonable for the job in front of you.

Is it worth paying for extra sessions in the final month?+

For some things only, and it is worth being honest about which. A final month can realistically change question choice, timing, and performance on the evaluative part of the source paper, which is where candidates most often run out of clock after over-writing the earlier questions. It cannot build a case-study record from nothing or rescue an engagement component that is already submitted. Eight to twelve intensive hours at the published specialist band is roughly AED 1,600 to 5,400, and it is a real product; it is simply not the same product as a plan started a year earlier.

How do we check that a tutor has taught the current version of the course?+

Ask directly whether they have taught the revised Global Politics course or the previous one, when they last taught it, and what changed between them. A specialist answers concretely. Then set a short test: give them a past essay title and ask which concepts a strong answer would be built on and why. Naming the concepts, explaining what each lets a candidate argue, and offering a case to illustrate one takes a specialist thirty seconds. Advice about structure and balance with no concept named is advice about essays rather than about this subject.

What can a tutor not do with the engagement write-up?+

Supply the text, choose the focus, construct the analysis, or rework a draft to completion. What a tutor may do is explain what each requirement rewards, ask whether the engagement as described can support the conclusion being drawn, test the feasibility of a focus before time is spent on it, and point out where a section has stopped answering its own question. The component rests on the student's own involvement, so it is one of the harder pieces of work to fake and one of the easier ones for a moderator to doubt. The boundary belongs in writing before the first session.

Does my child need to follow the news daily to do well?+

No, and daily news consumption is a surprisingly poor substitute for what the examination wants. The paper rewards prepared cases analysed through the course's concepts, not breadth of current awareness, and students who rely on general knowledge of events write confident mid-band essays. A better habit is narrower: two well-recorded cases per core unit, kept to one page each with dates and sources, reviewed periodically. Fifteen minutes a week maintaining that record is worth more marks than an hour a day of reading, which many well-informed candidates in Dubai find difficult to accept.

What happens if no Global Politics specialist is available at our hour?+

We say so and give you a date, rather than filling the slot with a general humanities tutor. Global Politics is offered in a minority of Dubai Diploma schools, so the specialist pool is small, and the hardest booking in the calendar is a Higher Level request needing extension rehearsal in the fortnight before a mock series. The options are an adjacent hour with the specialist you chose, a dated waiting slot, or a different tutor with their actual experience stated plainly before you book. No page competing for this search discloses a coverage limit at all.

Buy the calendar, not the hour

In Global Politics the decision that moves the invoice is when you start, not what you pay per hour. If your child is in DP1, the cheapest useful step is a session on the case-study record and the engagement focus, both of which get dearer every month they are left. If the mocks have already happened, say so and we will price what can realistically change rather than what sounds better. Tell us the level, the school's internal deadlines and whether the engagement focus is agreed. The first lesson is free, one per student, with no card details taken. Lessons run live and one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time; there are no home visits in the UAE, and that service runs only in India.
