IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Warqa

Everything you need to judge whether an IB chemistry tutor in Al Warqa is worth their rate can be checked by you, before any money moves. The subject guide is public. Your child's marked scripts are in their bag. The Dubai rate cards are published. This page assembles the three into something you can verify yourself, rather than asking you to trust an adjective. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Warqa

What an Al Warqa parent can check for themselves before paying

Chemistry tutoring in Dubai is sold on confidence, and confidence is unverifiable. So start with the three things you can verify without anyone's help. The IB Chemistry subject guide is a public document and your child's school will tell you which level and which theme they are in. Your child's marked scripts show exactly where the marks went. And the Dubai rate cards are published: EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 an hour, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, Unitors from AED 200 for IB, TutorChase at AED 270, Bestimate at AED 200 to 450 and above for specialist work, and BartyED at AED 650.

Put those three together and you can price the job yourself. If the scripts show organic mechanisms failing, that is a known block of work with a known length. If they show the data-based questions on Paper 1 going wrong, that is a technique problem shared with every other science and fixable in a handful of sessions. If they show the right chemistry written in an answer shape the command term did not ask for, that is a term of enforcement rather than a content purchase. Each of those has a different hour count, and the hour count is what determines the bill, not the rate.

The one genuinely chemistry-specific cost driver is Higher Level depth. The current guide organises the whole course under two headings, Structure and Reactivity, with Higher Level content extending topics inside each rather than sitting in separate units. In practice that concentrates the difficulty in a few places: energetics and entropy, equilibrium quantitative treatment, acid-base calculations, and organic mechanisms with their electron movement. A tutor who is strong on the rest and vague on those four is not a Higher Level chemistry tutor, whatever the rate says.

On delivery, plainly: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. Al Warqa chemistry lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. This matters practically rather than philosophically. Mechanism work is drawing: curly arrows in the right place, from the right lone pair, to the right atom. A shared screen where a tutor can annotate the student's own mechanism, with a mark scheme open beside it, is a better setting for that than a notebook on a kitchen table.

The rest of the page is the material for the check. The two themes and what sits in each. Higher Level content, named. The three topics that swallow most chemistry tutoring budgets and what each actually costs in hours. Paper weightings. The investigation criteria and the chemistry-specific way research questions fail. And an honest list of where money gets wasted in this subject, which includes at least one thing we could sell you and will not.

  • The investigation is 20% of the grade, marked out of 24
  • Paper 2 carries 44% and is where command terms decide the grade
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry support for Al Warqa families spans three stages. These notes say what each assesses and what it costs to address a weakness at that point rather than later.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Higher and Standard Level, with content organised under two themes, Structure and Reactivity, and assessed by two written papers plus the scientific investigation at twenty per cent. Higher Level content extends topics inside both themes rather than forming separate units, so the depth increases across the course rather than in one section a student could isolate.

Al Warqa Diploma chemists travel to Mirdif or Festival City, so a session realistically starts at 17:15 or later. Chemistry tolerates that better than mathematics for recall and mechanism practice, and worse for quantitative equilibrium work, which is worth considering when choosing the evening.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Four criteria each marked 0 to 8: A knowing and understanding, B inquiring and designing, C processing and evaluating, D reflecting on the impacts of science. No external examination, with the report grade converted from criterion totals.

The cheapest chemistry intervention available to an Al Warqa family is fixing criterion B and C in MYP 4 or 5. They are the direct ancestors of the Diploma investigation's research design and data analysis criteria, and the same weakness costs ordinary rates now and specialist rates in Year 13.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry, as the other route in

Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1, with Cambridge tiered Core and Extended and offering either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper. Many Al Warqa students reach Diploma Chemistry this way rather than through MYP.

A 0620 Extended candidate arrives with solid moles calculations and nomenclature and no experience of mechanism reasoning or of extended explanation. Four to eight weeks of focused work covers it, and identifying that early is considerably cheaper than a year of general weekly support.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Diploma Chemistry can sit inside it, keeping the subject and its assessment while reducing the overall load.

Relevant here because a student struggling with Higher Level Chemistry has options other than buying more chemistry hours, including moving to Standard Level. A provider who never mentions either is selling time, and the cost difference over eighteen months is substantial.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is one subject and a short list of genuinely expensive topics. Each note names what the topic demands and roughly what it costs in sessions to repair.

Structure 1: Models of the particulate nature of matter

HL and SL

Atomic structure, the mole concept, electron configuration and ionisation energy. Moles work is where weak foundations show, and it is cheap to fix: three to five sessions usually secures it, and nothing later in the course works without it.

Structure 2: Models of bonding and structure

HL and SL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces, shapes of molecules and, at Higher Level, further treatment including hybridisation. Students lose marks explaining boiling points by naming a force without saying how it affects energy required.

Structure 3: Classification of matter

HL and SL

The periodic table, periodicity, organic families and spectroscopic identification. Spectroscopy questions reward a methodical reading of the data rather than recall, which makes them recoverable marks for a student taught the method.

Reactivity 1: What drives chemical reactions

HL and SL

Energetics, enthalpy cycles, bond enthalpies and, at Higher Level, entropy and Gibbs energy. One of the four places Higher Level difficulty concentrates. Sign conventions and cycle construction account for most of the lost marks, and both are technique.

Reactivity 2: How much, how fast and how far

HL and SL

Reaction rates, equilibrium and acid-base chemistry, with quantitative equilibrium and pH calculations extended substantially at Higher Level. This is the most expensive block in the subject to repair late, typically eight to twelve sessions.

Reactivity 3: What are the mechanisms of chemical change

HL and SL

Redox, electrochemistry and organic mechanisms, with nucleophilic substitution and electrophilic addition developed at Higher Level. Mechanism marks are drawing marks: curly arrows from the correct lone pair to the correct atom, with charges shown.

Organic reasoning and synthesis routes

Mainly HL

Multi-step synthesis and reasoning about why a reagent behaves as it does. Students who have memorised individual reactions cannot plan a route, which is the difference between a 5 and a 7 at Higher Level and takes six to eight sessions to build.

Calculations and significant figures

HL and SL

Titration arithmetic, limiting reagents, percentage yield and consistent significant figures. Rounding and figure discipline bleed single marks across a whole paper, invisibly on any one question and substantially in total.

Data-based and experimental questions

HL and SL, Paper 1B

Reading tables, identifying controlled variables, spotting systematic error and interpreting graphs. Taught least at school because a class in a laboratory is doing something else, and among the most recoverable marks in the subject.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

Twenty per cent of the grade, one report, four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The student designs it, runs it, analyses it and writes it; a tutor teaches the criteria and reviews their drafts.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases at three different costs, matched to three different chemistry problems. All run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and none sends anybody to an Al Warqa address.

A targeted topic block

Three to twelve sessions on a single named topic, priced from the scripts rather than from a monthly package. Moles and spectroscopy are short. Energetics with entropy is medium. Quantitative equilibrium with pH calculations is the long one. Knowing which before paying is the whole point of sending the marked work first.

  • Scoped from marked scripts, with a session count stated upfront
  • One topic at a time, finished before the next is started
  • Measured against the school's next assessment in that topic
  • Ends when the topic is secure rather than when the term does

Mechanism and organic reasoning work

Six to eight sessions building the ability to plan a synthesis route rather than recall individual reactions. Entirely drawing-led: curly arrows annotated live on the student's own mechanisms, with a mark scheme open. This is the Higher Level block that separates a 5 from a 7 and it cannot be done by talking.

  • Electron movement drawn and corrected in real time
  • Reagent behaviour reasoned from structure, not memorised
  • Multi-step synthesis routes planned from scratch
  • Screen annotation on the student's own work throughout

An investigation block

Six to eight sessions, started before the school's first internal deadline so the research question can still be changed. The tutor teaches the four criteria in the examiner's wording and pressure-tests whether the chosen reaction will actually produce a measurable change. The student designs, runs, analyses and writes it.

  • Four criteria with their six-mark allocations explained
  • Research question tested for measurable, analysable output
  • Uncertainty and significant-figure discipline taught on their own data
  • Feedback on the student's own draft only, with a stated end date

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Warqa

01

Pricing the job yourself from scripts and published rates

The rate is the easiest number to compare and the least useful. What decides the bill is hours, and hours come from the diagnosis. So begin with two recently marked chemistry scripts and read them for pattern rather than for score. A paper where moles calculations collapse is a different purchase from one where the chemistry is right and the answer shape is wrong, and both are different from one where organic mechanisms are drawn with arrows starting in the wrong place.

Then apply the published numbers. Dubai's budget tier runs AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik, which buys supervision and question-answering. The qualified band is roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors advertising IB from AED 200. Specialist work runs AED 200 to 450 and above in Bestimate's Dubai table, with TutorChase at AED 270. The premium end reaches AED 500 to 650 and above, where BartyED publishes AED 650. In-home visits run AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's table and AED 200 to 500 from independent home tutors.

Multiply and the decisions become obvious. Five sessions of moles repair at the qualified band is AED 750 to 1,500 and the chemistry underneath the whole course becomes reliable. Eight sessions of mechanism work at specialist rates is AED 1,600 to 3,600 and it is defensible, because mechanism drawing is a narrow skill badly served by a generalist. Seventy sessions across two Diploma years at the qualified band is AED 10,500 to 21,000, and most families who end up there needed one of the first two.

There is a figure we will not give you, which is an IB Gram price list for the UAE. It would be a false precision: the honest number depends on which of those three purchases the scripts point to. The trial lesson is free and ends with an estimate in sessions. That estimate is what the six-week review measures against, and it is also what you should ask every other provider for before comparing anybody's hourly rate with anybody else's.

Structure and Reactivity: how the course is actually organised

The current guide puts everything under two headings. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and what the mechanisms of chemical change are. That is the whole architecture, and a tutor who cannot describe it is working from a previous version of the course.

The organisation is not decorative. It groups content by the question being asked rather than by traditional topic, which means a student is expected to connect ideas across what used to be separate chapters. An energetics question can require bonding reasoning; an equilibrium question can require acid-base understanding. A tutor who teaches isolated topics will produce sessions that each make sense and a student who cannot answer a Paper 2 question that crosses two themes.

Higher Level content sits inside these themes rather than beside them, and the practical consequence is that there is no Higher Level section to skip to. Difficulty concentrates in four places: entropy and Gibbs energy within Reactivity 1, quantitative equilibrium and pH calculations within Reactivity 2, organic mechanism depth within Reactivity 3, and further bonding treatment within Structure 2. Those four are where a tutor's level genuinely shows.

For an Al Warqa family the practical step is one email. Ask the school which theme is being taught now and which comes next, and whether the student is Higher or Standard Level. A tutor consolidating the current theme is worth considerably more than one working through the guide in their own order and reaching equilibrium three months after the class did.

The three topics that swallow a chemistry budget

Quantitative equilibrium and pH calculations are the most expensive thing to repair late in this subject. They sit at the end of Reactivity 2, they assume moles work is already automatic, and they require a kind of layered reasoning that cannot be shortcut. A student arriving at them with shaky moles will fail twice: once in equilibrium, and once again when acid-base questions appear on a paper. Eight to twelve sessions is a realistic estimate, which is why the cheap version of this purchase is five sessions of moles work in the first term of Year 12.

Energetics with entropy and Gibbs energy is the second. The chemistry is not conceptually enormous; the losses come from sign conventions and from building enthalpy cycles correctly, both of which are technique. Six to eight sessions normally secures it. The common error families make is buying this as content teaching when the scripts show a technique fault, which takes half as long and costs half as much.

Organic mechanisms are the third, and they behave differently from the other two. Mechanism marks are drawing marks: the curly arrow has to start at the correct lone pair or bond and finish at the correct atom, with charges shown. A student who has memorised which reagent does what to which functional group can still lose every mechanism mark on a paper. This is why the work has to be done by drawing and correcting, not by explaining, and why a shared screen with live annotation is genuinely the right tool.

One further cost worth naming because it is invisible. Significant figures and rounding discipline bleed single marks across a whole paper. Neither student nor parent can see it without a marked script, each individual loss looks trivial, and the cumulative effect across two papers is large enough to move a grade. It takes one session to teach and a term to enforce, which makes it the best value in the subject.

Papers, weightings and what each rewards

Both levels sit two written papers plus the investigation. Paper 1 is thirty-six per cent and comes in two parts: a multiple-choice section and a data-based and experimental section. Paper 2 is forty-four per cent and carries the structured and extended-response questions. The investigation is the remaining twenty per cent. Higher Level papers are longer, with the same weightings at both levels.

Paper 2 deserves most of the attention because it carries most of the grade, and because command terms decide it. Deduce, explain, outline, describe, state, justify and compare each demand a different answer. A student who writes a paragraph when asked to state loses time they will need later in the paper; one who writes a sentence when asked to explain loses the marks outright. That is not a chemistry problem and it does not improve with content revision.

The data-based section of Paper 1 is the quietly recoverable part. It is a paper exercise: a table, a graph, a described method, questions about controlled variables and systematic error. Schools drill it least because a class of twenty in a laboratory is occupied with something else, and it overlaps almost entirely with the equivalent sections in physics and biology, which means a student taking two sciences gets double value from the same block of work.

A caution on dates rather than papers, and it applies to every page in this project. ibo.org returns an error to automated access, so no IB session or results date here has been confirmed from the IB itself, and secondary sources disagree with each other. UAE schools sit the May session. Any date your family acts on should come from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org directly, and not from a tutoring page.

The investigation, and the chemistry-specific way it fails

Twenty per cent of the grade sits in one report, assessed against four criteria worth six marks each for twenty-four in total: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The four carry equal weight, which matters because students spend most of their effort on the practical work and almost none on evaluation, which is worth exactly as much as the design they agonised over.

The chemistry-specific failure is a research question whose reaction will not produce a measurable change. A student picks an interesting question, books the laboratory, and discovers that the concentration range available cannot shift the observable quantity enough to plot anything meaningful. In physics a badly scoped question usually produces too few data points; in chemistry it often produces data that are real but indistinguishable from noise, which is worse because it looks like data until it is analysed.

That is also why the design conversation has to happen before anything is measured. Once the data are collected, a question that could not produce a measurable change stays that way, and the student is left writing an honest evaluation of an investigation that never had a chance. Pressure-testing the question is one or two sessions, and it is the highest-value part of any investigation block.

The boundary on support is firm and stated in full. A tutor may teach the four criteria in the examiner's wording, explain what the twenty-four marks are made of, ask whether the proposed reaction will produce an analysable change, teach uncertainty and significant-figure discipline on the student's own measurements, and comment on a draft the student has written. No tutor at IB Gram designs an investigation, supplies or processes data, writes a section, or edits until authorship changes. Research for this project found a Dubai provider selling completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; that is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the candidate.

Where chemistry money gets wasted in Al Warqa households

  • Content teaching bought for what the scripts show is a command-term fault
  • Qualified rates paid for supervision that costs a quarter as much
  • A travel premium that costs roughly half the teaching hours
  • An arrangement with no review point, continuing because there is always another topic

The first waste is buying content teaching for a technique fault. Scripts showing correct chemistry in the wrong answer shape point at command terms, and that is a session plus a term of enforcement. Buying twenty hours of energetics teaching for it is an expensive way to avoid a conversation about the word deduce. The marked work distinguishes the two in minutes, which is why it should arrive before any package is quoted.

The second is paying qualified or specialist rates for supervision. A student who understands chemistry and will not sit down to practise needs presence, and presence costs AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget end of this market. Paying AED 250 for it across a year is a four-figure difference for an identical service, and it is among the most common avoidable expenses in Dubai tutoring. We will say this even though it costs us the booking.

The third is the travel premium, which in Al Warqa is larger than most families estimate. In-home rates run AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 online, and the gap covers a round trip of eighty to a hundred and twenty minutes from central Dubai at exactly the hour your child is free. In teaching terms, AED 1,800 a month buys six to twelve online hours or three and a half to ten in-home. Over two Diploma years that difference is a whole second block of topic work.

The fourth is the one nobody calls waste: continuing. An arrangement with no review point becomes a standing order, and chemistry is particularly prone to it because there is always another topic coming. Six weeks, a check against the school's own assessment data, then extend or stop. Where the estimate said five sessions and twelve have passed without movement, the diagnosis was wrong, and that is useful information rather than a reason to buy more of the same.

07

From MYP Sciences or IGCSE Chemistry into the Diploma

Two different students arrive, and the cheap intervention differs for each. The MYP student has been marked against criterion B, inquiring and designing, and criterion C, processing and evaluating, which are direct ancestors of the Diploma investigation's research design and data analysis criteria. If those were weak in MYP 5 they will be weak in the investigation, and addressing them in MYP 4 or 5 costs ordinary rates while addressing them in Year 13 costs specialist rates under deadline.

The IGCSE student arrives from Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1 with solid moles arithmetic, reliable nomenclature and no experience of mechanism reasoning or of extended explanation to a command term. Four to eight weeks of focused work usually covers it. Left unnamed, it presents as a general struggle with a harder course and gets treated with a year of weekly support, when what was needed was mechanism drawing and a command-term rule.

A third pattern recurs in this community because of the local school mix. Students from CBSE chemistry often arrive with stronger calculation and less practice at uncertainty treatment and at writing explanations in the shape a mark scheme wants. Again, short and specific. Treating it as a transition requiring a year of support is the expensive misreading, and it is the one most frequently made.

In all three cases, the diagnosis comes from marked work rather than from the previous curriculum. Two scripts from the first Diploma term show whether the problem is moles, mechanisms, command terms, figures or data interpretation. Each of those is a different purchase with a different session count, and the session count is what you are actually buying when you pay an hourly rate.

Permits, premises and the claims to refuse

  • Private tuition work permit: free, two years, issued by MoHRE
  • Two working days, via the MoHRE app, website or e-services
  • No fine schedule is published, so no amount appears here
  • No regulator or board approval is held or claimed by IB Gram

Private tutoring in the UAE requires a permit, and the detail is quotable. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced private tuition work permits through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time via its app, website and e-services.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts is published, so none appears here; a figure circulating informally could not be verified against any official source and leaving it out is the correct choice rather than a cautious one. Because the permit is free and takes two days, asking for it is entirely reasonable and there is no good answer other than yes.

Two claims should be refused on sight in this market. Nobody should describe themselves as approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson without the specific permit number to show. A tutoring operation with premises in Dubai needs a KHDA educational services permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds none of these, runs no premises in the UAE, and claims nothing of the kind.

And nobody should promise a grade. A tutor can make a weakness visible, teach the technique that addresses it, and build the past-paper habit that converts knowledge into marks. What happens in an examination hall in May is not a product anyone can sell, and a provider who offers a guaranteed 7 in Higher Level Chemistry is telling you about their marketing rather than their teaching.

Where we tutor

Al Warqa and the eastern communities we teach

Each note says what the area means for a chemistry family specifically: which school the child reaches, and what the local supply of Diploma-level science teaching looks like.

Al Warqa'a 1

Short runs into Al Qusais, where schools are mostly CBSE and British. Good science teaching nearby, trained on different syllabuses, which is the gap a tutor is actually being paid to close.

Al Warqa'a 2

Mixed Al Qusais and Mirdif runs. Households here often have one child on IGCSE Chemistry and another on Diploma, which are different purchases and should not be bundled into one tutor.

Al Warqa'a 3

Villa plots towards Al Khawaneej Road with longer journeys. A 17:15 session holds through the term; earlier bookings get cancelled, and chemistry loses more than most subjects from a broken weekly rhythm.

Al Warqa'a 4 and 5

Nearest Al Awir Road and furthest from the schools. The thinnest local supply of Diploma chemistry teaching in the cluster and the clearest case for matching on level rather than distance.

Mirdif

Uptown International School runs the IB continuum. The closest genuine Diploma chemistry teaching, with the constraint that staff cannot be paid to tutor their own enrolled students.

Dubai Festival City

Deira International School and Universal American School carry Diploma cohorts. The return drive across the creek at six in the evening is why in-home chemistry arrangements here rarely survive a term.

Dubai Academic City

University campuses produce chemistry graduates in reasonable numbers, which is why the budget tier is better supplied here than the specialist tier. Useful for supervised practice, not for Higher Level energetics.

Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej

Villa communities east of Al Warqa on the same Mirdif school run, with the same shortage of resident Diploma science specialists and the same reason to widen the pool online.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Ask the school two questions

Which level, and which theme is being taught now and next. Higher or Standard changes which tutor is appropriate, and the current theme determines whether a tutor is consolidating this week's work or running a parallel course that arrives late.

  2. 02

    Send two marked chemistry scripts

Recent and annotated. They distinguish a moles problem from a command-term problem from a mechanism problem within minutes, and each of those has a different session count. This is the step that converts an hourly rate into a total you can actually plan around.

  3. 03

Get an estimate in sessions before a rate

Any provider should be able to say roughly how many sessions the specific repair needs after seeing the scripts. Five sessions of moles work and twelve of quantitative equilibrium are different purchases, and comparing hourly rates without that number is comparing nothing useful.

  4. 04

Take the free trial at a realistic hour

For most Al Warqa addresses that is 17:15 or later on a weeknight. Run it then rather than at a convenient weekend time, because chemistry done at the end of a Festival City school run is the condition the arrangement actually has to work in.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks against the school's marks

Not against the tutor's impression. Where the estimate said five sessions and twelve have passed without movement, the diagnosis was wrong. Changing the approach then is considerably cheaper than another term of the same arrangement.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure attributed and checkable

The AED bands on this page name the provider or rate table that published them, with the month they were read. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars to families who transact in dirhams.

Hours estimated before rates quoted

Moles repair is three to five sessions, energetics six to eight, quantitative equilibrium eight to twelve. We publish those estimates so the total is visible before the first payment rather than discovered eighteen months later.

Mechanism work done by drawing

Mechanism marks are drawing marks: the arrow has to start at the right lone pair and finish at the right atom. Live annotation of the student's own mechanisms on a shared screen is the right tool for that, and talking about it is not.

The cheap substitutions named out loud

A student who will not practise needs supervision at AED 33 to 65, not diagnosis at AED 250. Content teaching bought for a command-term fault is an expensive way to avoid a short conversation. We say both, and both cost us bookings.

A firm line on the investigation

We teach the four criteria, pressure-test whether the reaction can produce a measurable change, and comment on the student's own draft. No tutor here designs, supplies data, writes or edits until authorship changes.

No unverified dates, no accreditation, no promises

No IB session date in this project is confirmed from ibo.org, so none is published. IB Gram holds no regulator or board approval and claims none, and nothing here promises a grade, a score or an improvement.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Warqa: your questions answered

What does an IB chemistry tutor in Al Warqa cost, and for how many hours?+

Published Dubai rates put a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors advertising IB from AED 200 and TutorChase at AED 270, and specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above in Bestimate's table. The hours matter more: moles repair is three to five sessions, energetics with entropy six to eight, quantitative equilibrium eight to twelve. Send two marked scripts and ask any provider for a session estimate before comparing rates, because the estimate determines the bill.

How is the IB Chemistry course organised now?+

Under two headings. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Higher Level content extends topics inside both themes rather than sitting in separate units. A tutor who cannot describe that architecture is working from a previous version of the course, which is worth knowing before the first paid hour.

Which chemistry topic is most expensive to fix late?+

Quantitative equilibrium with pH calculations. It sits at the end of Reactivity 2, it assumes moles work is already automatic, and it needs layered reasoning that cannot be shortcut, so eight to twelve sessions is realistic. The cheap version of the same purchase is five sessions of moles work in the first term of Year 12, which costs roughly a third as much and prevents the problem rather than repairing it. Most families discover this the wrong way round.

Why does my child lose every organic mechanism mark despite knowing the reactions?+

Because mechanism marks are drawing marks. The curly arrow has to start at the correct lone pair or bond and finish at the correct atom, with charges shown, and a student who has memorised which reagent acts on which functional group can still score nothing. It is a skill built by drawing and being corrected, not by explaining, which is why live annotation of the student's own mechanisms on a shared screen is the right tool. Six to eight sessions normally secures it.

Is the problem really chemistry, or is it how the answers are written?+

Often the latter, and the marked scripts tell you. Paper 2 carries forty-four per cent of the grade and command terms decide it: deduce, explain, outline, describe, state and justify each demand a different answer. A student who writes a paragraph when asked to state loses time they need later; one who writes a sentence when asked to explain loses the marks outright. That is one session to teach and a term to enforce, not twenty hours of content teaching.

What is the chemistry investigation worth, and how does it usually go wrong?+

Twenty per cent of the grade, assessed on four criteria worth six marks each for twenty-four in total. The chemistry-specific failure is a research question whose reaction cannot produce a measurable change: the student books the laboratory and collects data that look real and are indistinguishable from noise. Once collected, it cannot be rescued. Pressure-testing the question before anything is measured takes one or two sessions and is the highest-value part of any investigation block.

Where exactly does a tutor stop on an IB chemistry investigation?+

Within firm limits. A tutor may teach the four criteria in the examiner's wording, explain what the twenty-four marks are made of, ask whether the proposed reaction will produce an analysable change, teach uncertainty and significant-figure discipline on the student's own measurements, and comment on a draft the student has written. No tutor should design the investigation, supply or process data, write a section, or edit until authorship changes. One Dubai provider sells completed Internal Assessments; that is malpractice and the sanction falls on the candidate.

My child understands chemistry but will not revise. What should we actually pay for?+

Supervision, at the budget tier of AED 33 to 65 an hour where Tutopiya and EdFlik advertise. That buys presence and question-answering, which is what makes set work get done. Paying AED 250 an hour for the same service across a year is a four-figure difference for an identical outcome, and it is one of the commonest avoidable expenses in Dubai tutoring. If completed work does not move the marks after a term, change the purchase then.

How much does the travel premium cost an Al Warqa chemistry family?+

Roughly half the teaching. In-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 online, and the gap covers an eighty to one hundred and twenty minute round trip from central Dubai at exactly the hour your child is free. A monthly AED 1,800 buys six to twelve online hours or three and a half to ten in-home. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so this is published as market information.

Does significant-figure discipline really affect a chemistry grade?+

More than families expect, because the losses are invisible on any single question. Inconsistent significant figures and early rounding cost single marks spread across two papers, each of which looks trivial, and the total can move a grade. Neither student nor parent can see it without a marked script in front of them. It takes one session to teach the rules and a term of weekly checking to embed, which makes it the best value available in the subject.

My child came from IGCSE Chemistry and the first Diploma report was disappointing. Why?+

Usually two specific gaps rather than the course being harder. A Cambridge 0620 Extended or Pearson 4CH1 candidate arrives with solid moles arithmetic and nomenclature, and no experience of mechanism reasoning or of extended explanation to a command term. Four to eight weeks of focused work on those two normally covers it. Left unnamed, it reads as a general struggle and gets treated with a year of weekly support, which is roughly five times the cost for the same result.

Does Higher Level Chemistry need a specialist, or will a good general tutor do?+

It depends entirely on where the marks are going. For moles, spectroscopy, data questions and command terms, a qualified subject tutor at AED 150 to 300 is sufficient and a specialist is an overpayment. For the four places Higher Level depth concentrates, entropy and Gibbs energy, quantitative equilibrium and pH, organic mechanism depth and further bonding treatment, a specialist at AED 200 to 450 is defensible. Ask which of those your child needs before accepting a rate for all of them.

When are the IB Chemistry examinations?+

UAE schools sit the May session, and that is as specific as this page will get. ibo.org returns an error to automated access, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself and secondary sources disagree with one another. Get your dates from the school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org directly. A wrong date on a tutoring page is the kind of thing a family plans around, which makes publishing one worse than publishing nothing.

What should the first chemistry session produce for the money?+

A named weakness, the reason marks are going there, and an estimate in sessions. Not a monthly figure and not a reading list. By the end of a free trial you should know whether the problem is moles, mechanisms, energetics technique, command terms, significant figures or data interpretation, and roughly how long the specific repair takes. Write the estimate down, because that is what the six-week review measures against. A tutor who cannot produce it has not read the scripts properly.

Check it yourself: the guide, the scripts, the published rates

Ask the school for the level and the current theme. Pull two recently marked chemistry scripts out of your child's bag. Compare the published Dubai rate bands on this page against any quote you are given, and ask for an estimate in sessions rather than a monthly figure. Then take the free trial lesson and see whether what you are told matches what the scripts show. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with mechanisms annotated live. Nothing is promised about a grade, no unverified IB dates are published, and nobody travels to a UAE address because we do not offer that here.
