IGCSE Maths Tutor in Al Warqa

Before you compare what an IGCSE maths tutor in Al Warqa charges, work out how many hours you actually need. A tier correction takes a term. A paper-technique repair takes six sessions. A two-year content rebuild takes two years and a different conversation. This page prices each of those honestly against published Dubai rates, names the Cambridge and Pearson papers, and shows where the money is normally wasted. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Al Warqa

How many hours of IGCSE maths does your child actually need?

Every tutoring comparison starts in the wrong place. Parents collect three hourly rates, pick the middle one and then find out over the following year how many hours the problem required. Reverse it. Establish the number of hours first, from marked work, and the rate becomes a small decision instead of the only one. In IGCSE mathematics the honest range of answers is wide: a tier decision needs one or two hours, a paper-technique repair needs six to ten, and a genuine two-year content gap needs something a tutor should be honest about rather than quietly monetising.

The most expensive thing in IGCSE maths is not an hourly rate at all. It is the tier. Cambridge 0580 Core candidates sit two papers and cannot be awarded above grade C. Extended candidates sit a different pair and can reach A star. Pearson 4MA1 runs Foundation, which reaches grade 5, and Higher, which runs to grade 9 with a grade 3 allowed. Enter a child for Core who needs a B for sixth form and no amount of money fixes it. Enter a child for Extended who is not ready and they can finish below where Core would have placed them.

The second most expensive thing is buying hours in response to anxiety rather than evidence. A household in Al Warqa'a 3 with a Year 10 showing a weak maths report has, in practice, three options: one weekly hour at the qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to 300, a budget supervision hour at AED 33 to 65 to make sure the set work gets done, or a short diagnostic block to find out which of those is the right purchase. The third costs least and is chosen least often.

Delivery is stated plainly here as on every page on this site: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. That service exists only in India. Al Warqa lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. For mathematics this works unusually well, because a shared screen with a student's own working annotated live, and a mark scheme open beside it, shows exactly which method marks were available and never claimed. That conversation is hard to have leaning over a notebook.

What follows is a costing document with the mathematics in it. The tier arithmetic. The papers in each board, and which of them is non-calculator. Where marks actually go, the five recurring ones. What hours cost at published Dubai rates and how many each starting point needs. Whether a group class, a budget tutor or a specialist is the right purchase for a given problem. And what a November resit costs if June goes wrong, counted from the published results dates rather than guessed at.

At a glance

  • Tier decision: one to two hours, and the highest-value hours in the course
  • Paper-technique repair: six to ten sessions, usually in Year 11
  • Two-year content gap: a longer arrangement, and a conversation about tier
  • Qualified subject tutor online: AED 150 to 300 an hour
  • Budget supervision tier: AED 33 to 65 an hour at Tutopiya and EdFlik
  • Cambridge Core caps at grade C; Pearson Foundation caps at grade 5

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Warqa students meet IGCSE mathematics through British-curriculum schools in Al Qusais, Mirdif and Academic City, and sometimes as private candidates. These notes cover each route and what mathematics support costs inside it.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Tiered as Core or Extended. Each tier has two written papers, one of which is sat without a calculator, and the syllabus covers number, algebra, coordinate geometry, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, vectors and transformations, probability and statistics. Core cannot be awarded above grade C; Extended reaches A star. Durations and mark totals are revised periodically, so check the current syllabus document rather than a restated figure.

This is the most common mathematics entry among Al Warqa IGCSE students. The practical thing to establish early is which tier the school intends to enter, because that single decision caps or releases the grade and is far cheaper to influence in Year 10 than in Year 11.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, 4MA1

Two written papers, both calculator-permitted, sat at Foundation or Higher tier. Foundation reaches grade 5; Higher runs to grade 9 with a grade 3 allowed. Available in May-June and November each year. Because both papers allow a calculator, revision priorities differ from Cambridge, where one paper of each pair is non-calculator.

Several schools reachable from Al Warqa run Pearson mathematics alongside Cambridge sciences, which is exactly the combination that produces a mismatched tutor. Ask for the code on the entry form: 4MA1 and 0580 need different practice, and a tutor who assumes one when the child sits the other wastes the first month.

0606Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics

A separate syllabus taken alongside Extended Mathematics by stronger candidates, covering functions, calculus, series, trigonometry and vectors at a level that overlaps with early A Level content. It is demanding, it is not universal, and it is excellent preparation for A Level Mathematics or Higher Level IB mathematics.

Worth paying for only in one situation: a student comfortably on course for an A or A star in Extended who intends to take mathematics further. Buying support for Additional Mathematics while Extended Mathematics is still shaky is the clearest example of money spent in the wrong place in this whole subject.

A LevelAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

International A Level Mathematics

The usual continuation for a Dubai IGCSE mathematician who does not move to the IB Diploma. Entry typically assumes Extended or Higher tier at a good grade, which is the practical reason the tier conversation belongs in Year 10 rather than being discovered in a sixth-form application.

Ministry of Education British-track equivalency requires one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade, alongside five GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics is one subject on a timetable and five or six distinct skills on a paper. Each note below says what the topic demands and where Al Warqa candidates lose marks inside it.

Number and accuracy

Core and Extended

Standard form, upper and lower bounds, percentage change, ratio and rates. The quiet killer is accuracy: a candidate who rounds early loses marks spread across a whole paper rather than in one visible place, and nobody notices because each individual loss is a single mark.

Algebraic manipulation

Core and Extended

Expanding, factorising, rearranging, simultaneous and quadratic equations. Extended candidates lose most here, and almost always to abandonment: a correct method started, the expression grows, and the question is left half finished for partial credit. Fluency is built weekly, not in a weekend.

Coordinate geometry and graphs

Core and Extended

Gradients, equations of lines, graph sketching and interpretation. Marks go on sketching from analysis rather than from a calculator, and on reading a gradient from axis values instead of counting grid squares, which is the single most common graph error at this level.

Geometry, mensuration and trigonometry

Core and Extended

Angle reasoning, circle theorems, area and volume, Pythagoras, sine and cosine rules, and bearings. Bearings and three-dimensional trigonometry account for a disproportionate share of Extended losses because candidates do not draw the diagram before calculating.

Transformations and vectors

Mainly Extended

Translations, reflections, rotations, enlargements and vector notation. Students lose marks describing a transformation incompletely, giving a rotation without a centre or an enlargement without a scale factor, which the mark scheme treats as an unfinished answer.

Probability and statistics

Core and Extended

Tree diagrams, conditional probability, averages from grouped data, histograms and cumulative frequency. The recurring loss is interpretation: the calculation is correct and the sentence saying what it means in context, which the scheme rewards, is never written.

Non-calculator technique

Cambridge, one paper per tier

Exact fractions, surds where required, mental estimation and long-form arithmetic. Candidates who have practised everything with a calculator in hand are unprepared for half their Cambridge entry, and the gap usually surfaces in mocks rather than in classwork.

Calculator fluency

Both boards, calculator papers

Using memory, fractions and statistical functions efficiently rather than retyping. A slow calculator user loses time rather than marks directly, which then costs marks at the end of the paper. Twenty minutes of deliberate teaching here pays for itself.

Problem-solving and multi-step questions

Extended and Higher

Questions that require two or three techniques in sequence with no signposting. These are where A and A star candidates are separated from B candidates, and they respond to practice on question types rather than to more content teaching.

Additional Mathematics 0606

Taken alongside Extended

Functions, differentiation, integration, series, vectors and trigonometry at a level approaching early A Level. Only worth support when Extended Mathematics is already secure; buying 0606 help while 0580 is shaky is the commonest misallocation in this subject.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases at three price points, matched to three different problems. All are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and none involves anybody travelling to an Al Warqa address.

A two-session tier diagnostic

The cheapest useful purchase in IGCSE mathematics. Two sessions at ordinary rates, working through upper-tier questions with a marked paper alongside, producing an evidenced view on whether Extended or Higher is realistic. Done in Year 10 while the school can still act on it.

  • Two sessions, at the qualified-tutor band
  • Evidence a head of department can discuss, not an opinion
  • Timed to land before entries are finalised
  • Can conclude that the current tier is correct

One weekly hour from Year 10

The arrangement that makes the middle market tier sufficient, because algebraic fluency is built by repetition across months. Starting in Year 10 at AED 150 to 300 an hour costs considerably less in total than starting in the final term of Year 11 at specialist rates under deadline pressure.

  • Same tutor, same hour, every week
  • A short timed question set each session
  • Deliberate non-calculator practice for Cambridge candidates
  • Reviewed each reporting cycle against the school's own marks

A pre-series technique block

Six to ten sessions in the weeks before a June or November series, spent entirely on past papers marked against the scheme. This is where specialist rates earn themselves, because the work is mark-scheme reading and question-type recognition rather than teaching content.

  • Past papers marked line by line against the published scheme
  • Working legibility and claimable method addressed directly
  • Question types drilled rather than topics revisited
  • Ends at the first paper, with no rolling commitment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Warqa

01

What a tiering mistake costs, in dirhams and in doors

Set the hourly rate aside and price the tier instead. A Cambridge Core candidate cannot be awarded above grade C. A Pearson Foundation candidate cannot be awarded above grade 5. If a sixth-form place, an A Level mathematics route or a university prerequisite needs more than that, the entry has already decided the answer and tutoring cannot change it. That is the only decision in IGCSE mathematics that is genuinely irreversible once the series is sat.

The opposite error costs differently. A candidate pushed into Extended or Higher who is not ready meets papers assuming content they have not secured, and can finish below where the lower tier would have placed them comfortably. Families rarely see this coming because classwork in a mixed-tier set looks reassuring, and the gap only becomes visible on a full upper-tier paper under timed conditions, which is exactly what a two-session diagnostic produces.

Both errors are cheap to avoid and expensive to repair. Two hours at the qualified-tutor band, somewhere between AED 300 and AED 600, buys an evidenced view in Year 10 that a head of department can act on. Repairing an optimistic Extended entry in the final term of Year 11 means specialist hours at AED 200 to 450 and above, under deadline pressure, with the tier fixed. The same money, spent a year apart, achieves entirely different things.

The third version of this is the one nobody budgets for: accepting the lower tier and planning around it. A grade C or grade 5 is a legitimate outcome that leads somewhere, and the honest conversation includes it. A provider who treats every Core entry as a problem to be solved with hours is selling hours. A tutor who says the tier is right and the grade is achievable has just saved you a year of payments, which is the test of whether advice is advice.

The papers in each board, and which one has no calculator

Cambridge 0580 gives each tier two written papers, and one of each pair is sat without a calculator. That structural fact shapes revision more than any topic list, because a candidate who has done every piece of practice with technology in hand has not prepared for half of their entry. The gap does not show in classwork, where calculators are usually permitted. It shows in a mock, by which point there are months rather than years left to fix it.

Pearson 4MA1 is different and simpler in this respect: two written papers, both calculator-permitted, at Foundation or Higher tier. Revision priorities shift accordingly. Where Cambridge candidates need deliberate non-calculator work, Pearson candidates need calculator fluency, because speed with fractions, memory and statistical functions decides how much of the second paper gets finished. Both are teachable, and neither is taught by accident.

Exact durations and mark totals are revised periodically by both boards, so the only reliable source is the current syllabus document and your school's examinations officer. That is not evasion; publishing a paper duration that changes next cycle would leave this page quietly wrong with nobody having touched it. What does not change often is the structure: tiers, two papers per tier, and the calculator split in Cambridge. Plan around those.

One more structural point matters for an Al Warqa family. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version of the timetable for their zone. That is an administrative risk a parent can eliminate in one email to the examinations officer, and it costs nothing.

The five recurring losses in Al Warqa maths scripts

  • Working an examiner cannot follow forfeits earned method marks
  • Abandoned algebra: fluency, not understanding, and built weekly
  • Gradients counted in grid squares rather than read from the scale
  • Rounding losses spread thinly across a whole paper
  • Transformations described without a centre or a scale factor

First, illegible or absent working. Mark schemes award method marks for working an examiner can follow, so a correct final answer with unreadable working can score less than a wrong answer with clear method. This is the cheapest fix in the subject and the one students resist most, because writing more feels slower in the moment and is faster across a paper.

Second, abandoned algebra. A candidate starts correctly, the expression grows, and the question is left half completed. That is fluency rather than understanding, and fluency comes from short frequent practice over months. It is also the single strongest argument for starting in Year 10: you cannot build automaticity in a final-term intensive.

Third, graph errors. Gradients read by counting grid squares instead of using axis values, axes without units, and curves of best fit forced through the first and last points. Fourth, accuracy and rounding, which bleeds single marks across an entire paper so quietly that neither student nor parent can see it without a marked script in front of them.

Fifth, incomplete descriptions. A rotation given without a centre, an enlargement without a scale factor, a probability calculated correctly with no sentence saying what it means in context. The mark scheme treats each of those as unfinished, and the candidate believes they answered the question. All five are visible within minutes on two marked papers, which is why those two documents are worth more at the start of an arrangement than any amount of conversation about how maths makes your child feel.

04

Hours first, then rates: costing each starting point

Published Dubai figures give the multipliers. A qualified subject tutor working online is roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors advertising IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above in Bestimate's Dubai table, with TutorChase at AED 270. The budget tier is AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik. In-home visits across Dubai are AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's table and AED 200 to 500 from independent home tutors.

Now apply them to real starting points instead of to a generic year of support. A tier diagnostic is two hours: AED 300 to 600. A paper-technique block before a series is six to ten hours at specialist rates: AED 1,200 to 4,500. One weekly hour across Year 10 and Year 11 is roughly seventy hours at the qualified band: AED 10,500 to 21,000. Those three numbers are not variations on a theme; they are three different purchases, and most families buy the third when they needed the first.

The arithmetic also exposes the cheapest substitution available. A student who understands the content and will not practise needs supervision, and supervision at AED 45 to 65 an hour costs a quarter of what the same hours cost at the qualified band. Paying AED 250 an hour for somebody to sit with a child while they complete set work is a common, expensive and entirely avoidable mistake in this market.

IB Gram publishes no fixed UAE price list, because an honest figure depends on the tier, the board and how many weeks remain. The trial lesson is free, the estimate in hours comes with it, and there is no fixed term. What will not be offered is a promise about a grade: no provider can deliver what happens in an examination hall, and anyone who says otherwise is describing their advertising.

Group class, budget tutor or specialist: matching the purchase to the problem

Tuition centre group classes in Dubai run roughly AED 80 to 180 per student per hour, which is genuinely good value for one specific job: covering a shared syllabus at a shared pace for students at a similar level. They are poor value for the problems that actually bring Al Warqa families to a tutor, because a centre timetable cannot spend forty minutes on one child's bearings diagrams while five other students wait.

The budget online tier does one job well too. At AED 33 to 65 an hour it buys presence, question-answering and the completion of set work. For a Year 10 who understands the mathematics and will not sit down, that is precisely the right product, and it is the cheapest route to the single biggest improvement available in many households: the homework actually gets done.

The qualified band, AED 150 to 300, is where diagnosis lives. It is the tier that can look at a marked paper and say the problem is rounding rather than algebra, or legibility rather than understanding, or tier rather than effort. That ability is the whole value proposition, and it is what separates a worthwhile hour from an expensive one. Most IGCSE mathematics problems are solved at this band and nowhere else.

Specialist and premium bands, AED 200 to 450 and AED 500 to 650 and above, are defensible for a narrow task: paper technique in a short final block, or Additional Mathematics 0606 where the content approaches A Level. They are indefensible as a default across two years and four subjects. And a caution on the premium end: examiner status means nothing unless it is current and evidenced, and it never implies access to marking, boundaries or paper content.

If June goes wrong: pricing a November attempt

UAE candidates sit the June and November series. The February-March series exists but is offered to India only, and incorrect advice about it circulates widely enough in this market to be worth contradicting directly. So a disappointing June grade in mathematics means a November decision, taken in August with real dates to work from.

The published Pearson pattern gives the shape. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also issues provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the right habit is to open the live official timetable rather than rely on any restated date, including the ones here.

That leaves roughly eight to ten weeks between a June result and a November sitting, and those weeks have a clear best use. Mathematics resits are won on paper technique rather than on content, because a candidate who sat the paper in June has met the syllabus. Six to ten sessions on the failed papers, marked against the scheme, with working legibility and question-type recognition addressed directly, is a defensible AED 1,200 to 4,500 with an end date attached.

What is not defensible is converting a resit into a new rolling arrangement. The grade is decided in November; the arrangement should end there. And the resit decision itself should be weighed honestly against accepting the grade, because a C or a 5 that is sufficient for the intended post-16 route is a finished matter, and spending eight weeks and several thousand dirhams to improve a grade nobody will ask about is a poor use of both.

Why more hours is usually the wrong purchase

  • A rounding problem is a habit, not a content gap
  • Three unfocused hours a week produce a tired student and worse papers
  • The week a mock returns marked is the most valuable hour of the year
  • Review at six weeks against the school's data, then extend or stop

The default response to a weak maths report is to add hours, and it is usually wrong because it treats a diagnostic problem as a quantity problem. A student losing marks to rounding does not need more mathematics; they need a twenty-minute conversation and a term of habit. A student whose working is unreadable needs a rule and enforcement, not content. A student in the wrong tier needs an entry changed, and no number of hours substitutes for it.

There is a second reason, which is time. A Year 11 already carries school lessons, homework, coursework, the Arabic and Islamic Education lessons KHDA requires of every Dubai private school, and whatever activities survive. Adding three tutoring hours a week to that produces a tired student and worse papers. The hour that works is one protected hour with a clear target, not three unfocused ones.

The third reason is that the most valuable hours are not extra at all, they are better placed. The week a mock paper comes back marked is the highest-value tutoring hour in the entire course, because the student has just demonstrated exactly where the marks go. Families routinely cancel during mock weeks because the fortnight is busy, which is precisely backwards, and nobody ever charges less for it.

So the honest sequence is: establish the cause from marked work, buy the specific repair, review against the school's own data at six weeks, then extend or stop. Where a diagnosis predicted four sessions and ten have passed with no movement, the diagnosis was wrong. That is useful information and far cheaper to act on than another term of the same arrangement, and a provider who never surfaces it is not working in your interest.

Permits, premises and what you are entitled to ask

  • Private tuition work permit: free, two years, issued by MoHRE
  • Two working days, applied for via the MoHRE app, website or e-services
  • No fine schedule is published, so no amount appears on this page
  • No board or regulator accreditation is held or claimed by IB Gram

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit, and the rule is specific enough to quote. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced private tuition work permits, issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students.

MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published, so none is quoted here; a figure circulating informally could not be verified against any official source.

Two further things you are entitled to ask about. Whether the tutor is your child's own teacher, because a teacher cannot be paid to tutor students enrolled at their own school and the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. And whether any claimed accreditation exists: a tutoring operation with premises in Dubai needs a KHDA educational services permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry.

IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no premises in the UAE, and claims no approval, accreditation or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson. We will also not supply syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, because those are copyright and reproducing them is infringement. What a tutor legitimately provides is the teaching that a mark scheme rewards, not the mark scheme.

Where we tutor

Al Warqa and the communities around it

What each pocket contributes to the picture: where children go to school, which board they are likely to sit, and what that means for finding somebody who knows the right papers.

Al Warqa'a 1

Shortest runs into Al Qusais, where the local schools mostly sit. Mixed CBSE and British entries, so the board question matters here more than in communities with a single dominant school.

Al Warqa'a 2

Runs split between Al Qusais and Mirdif. Households here frequently have one child on Cambridge and another on a different board entirely, which is an argument against one tutor for both.

Al Warqa'a 3

Villa plots towards Al Khawaneej Road feeding Mirdif schools. Longer journeys, later evenings, and very few resident tutors who know IGCSE mathematics specifically rather than mathematics generally.

Al Warqa'a 4 and 5

Nearest Al Awir Road, with Academic City and Festival City runs. The thinnest local supply of subject-specific tutors in the cluster, and the strongest practical case for matching on syllabus rather than distance.

Al Qusais

The dense school cluster to the north, with a mix of Cambridge and Pearson entries across subjects. A short drive away and still no guarantee that a nearby tutor knows your child's paper.

Mirdif

Star International School Mirdif and Uptown International School. More British and IB provision here than immediately around Al Warqa, so Extended and Higher tier entries are more common.

Al Mizhar and Al Khawaneej

Villa communities east of Al Warqa on the same Mirdif school run, facing the same shortage of IGCSE-specific mathematics teaching within a short drive.

Dubai Academic City

Dubai English Speaking College plus university campuses, which is why budget-tier tutoring supply is relatively strong here. University students are explicitly eligible for the MoHRE private tuition permit.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the code and the tier

Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher, from the entry form or the examinations officer. Those few characters determine which papers your child sits, whether one is non-calculator, and what the grade ceiling is. Everything else follows from them.

  2. 02

    Send two marked papers

Recent, with annotations. Rounding losses, illegible working, abandoned algebra, graph errors and incomplete descriptions are all visible within minutes, and each points to a different and much shorter piece of work than a year of weekly hours.

  3. 03

Buy the diagnosis before the hours

A two-session diagnostic at AED 150 to 300 an hour tells you whether the problem is tier, technique or content. It is the cheapest purchase in the subject and the one families skip, going straight to a rolling weekly commitment instead.

  4. 04

Take the free trial, then agree a target

The trial should end with a named cause and an estimate in hours, not a monthly figure. Write the target down, because that is what the six-week review is measured against rather than a general sense that things are going better.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks and act on it

Compare the school's own assessment data. If the estimate was four sessions and ten have passed with nothing moving, the diagnosis was wrong, and changing the approach is cheaper than continuing. Stop when the target is met rather than when the term ends.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Hours estimated before rates quoted

A tier diagnostic is two hours, a technique block is six to ten, a two-year arrangement is about seventy. Those are three different purchases with three different totals, and we publish all three rather than quoting a monthly figure and letting it run.

The tier treated as the main decision

Cambridge Core caps at grade C and Pearson Foundation at grade 5. No amount of tutoring lifts a ceiling, so we pressure-test the tier in Year 10 with evidence a head of department can act on, including when the answer is that the current tier is right.

The calculator split taken seriously

One Cambridge paper per tier is sat without a calculator, which is half the entry. Deliberate non-calculator practice from the first term prevents a gap that otherwise appears in mock results with months rather than years left to fix it.

The cheap substitution named out loud

A student who understands the content and will not practise needs supervision at AED 33 to 65 an hour, not diagnosis at AED 250. Saying so costs us revenue and is the correct advice, which is the only reason worth saying anything.

Online one-to-one, with working annotated live

Al Warqa lessons run one to one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own working screen-shared and marked up against a scheme. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that is an India-only service.

No copyright material, no accreditation claims, no grade promises

We do not supply past papers, mark schemes or grade boundaries, hold no board or regulator approval, and promise nothing about a grade. Each of those is something at least one page researched for this project does, and each is a liability.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Warqa: your questions answered

How much does an IGCSE maths tutor in Al Warqa cost in total?+

It depends entirely on how many hours the problem needs, which is why the hours should be established first. At the qualified band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, a two-session tier diagnostic is AED 300 to 600, a short technique block of six to ten sessions is AED 1,200 to 4,500 at specialist rates, and one weekly hour across Years 10 and 11 is roughly seventy hours, or AED 10,500 to 21,000. Most families buy the third when the first was the right purchase.

Can tutoring get my child above a grade C if they are entered for Core maths?+

No. Cambridge 0580 Core candidates cannot be awarded above grade C regardless of how well they perform, and Pearson 4MA1 Foundation candidates cannot be awarded above grade 5. That ceiling is set by the entry, not by ability, so if a sixth-form place requires more the tier has to change before entries close. This is the one decision in IGCSE mathematics that tutoring genuinely cannot influence after the fact, which is why it should be addressed in Year 10.

Does my Al Warqa child sit a 0580 paper with no calculator allowed?+

Each Cambridge 0580 tier has two written papers and one of each pair is sat without a calculator. The consequence is that a candidate who has done all their practice with technology in hand is unprepared for half their entry, and the gap rarely shows in classwork because calculators are usually permitted there. It appears in mock results instead. Pearson 4MA1 differs: both papers are calculator-permitted, so the priority shifts to calculator speed rather than mental technique.

Is it worth paying for Additional Mathematics 0606 support?+

Only when Extended Mathematics is already secure. Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics covers functions, calculus, series, trigonometry and vectors at a level overlapping early A Level, and it is excellent preparation for A Level or Higher Level IB mathematics. Buying support for 0606 while 0580 Extended is still shaky is the clearest misallocation in this subject: the foundation is where the grade comes from, and the additional qualification helps nobody if the main one disappoints.

My child understands maths but will not do the homework. What should we buy?+

Supervision, not diagnosis. The budget online tier at AED 33 to 65 an hour, where Tutopiya and EdFlik advertise, buys presence and question-answering, which is exactly what makes set work get completed. Paying AED 250 an hour for the same service is a common and avoidable expense in this market. If the completed homework does not move the marks after a term, that is new information and the purchase should change then rather than pre-emptively.

Where do Al Warqa students lose the most IGCSE maths marks?+

Five places. Working an examiner cannot follow, which forfeits method marks that were genuinely earned. Abandoned algebra, where a correct method is started and left half done. Graph errors, especially gradients counted in grid squares rather than read from axis values. Accuracy and rounding, which bleeds single marks across an entire paper invisibly. And incomplete descriptions, such as a rotation given without a centre. All five appear on two marked papers within minutes.

Should we start maths tutoring in Year 10 or wait for Year 11?+

Year 10 if the problem is fluency or tier, because both take months rather than weeks. Algebraic automaticity is built by short frequent practice, and a tier decision can only be influenced while the school can still act on it. Year 11 if the problem is paper technique, where a short block of past papers marked against the scheme in the eight to ten weeks before a series is one of the few places specialist rates genuinely earn themselves.

Is a group maths class at a Dubai centre good value for an Al Warqa family?+

For one job, yes. At roughly AED 80 to 180 per student per hour it covers a shared syllabus at a shared pace, which suits a student who needs the whole course rather than a specific repair. It is poor value for the problems that usually bring families to a tutor, because a centre timetable cannot spend forty minutes on one child's bearings diagrams while five others wait. Add the drive to Al Qusais or Mirdif twice a week to the real cost.

What does a November maths resit cost after a disappointing June?+

Between roughly AED 1,200 and AED 4,500 for six to ten specialist sessions, with an end date at the first paper. The timing works: June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026 and the November 2026 final Pearson timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, leaving eight to ten weeks. Resits are won on paper technique rather than content, because the candidate has already met the syllabus. Weigh it honestly against accepting a grade that is sufficient.

Can one tutor cover maths for two children sitting different boards?+

Ask directly rather than assuming. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ in tiering, in the calculator split and in question phrasing, and a tutor who teaches one by default will waste the first few weeks with the other. Some tutors handle both comfortably. Online, two children can be taught at different hours on the same evening by two specialists with nobody waiting, which usually beats compromising on one tutor to save a journey that does not exist anyway.

Does a tutor need a permit to teach maths online to a Dubai student?+

Individuals providing private tuition need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time via its app, website and e-services, and eligible applicants include school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no schedule of amounts published officially.

Can you give us past papers and mark schemes for 0580?+

No. Cambridge and Pearson materials are copyright, and reproducing or distributing syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables is infringement. What a tutor can legitimately do is work with material the school has already issued, point you to the official source, and teach the technique a mark scheme rewards, which is the part that actually produces marks. Be cautious of any provider whose main offer is a library of other people's assessment material.

How many hours a week of maths tutoring is too many?+

More than two, for almost every IGCSE student. A Year 11 already carries school lessons, homework, coursework and the Arabic and Islamic Education lessons KHDA requires of every Dubai private school. Adding three tutoring hours produces a tired student and worse papers, not better ones. One protected hour with a named target outperforms three unfocused ones, and the genuinely valuable extra hour is the one in the week a mock paper comes back marked.

What should the first maths session actually produce?+

A named cause and an estimate in hours. Not a monthly figure, not enthusiasm, and not a reading list. By the end of a free trial you should know whether the marks are going on rounding, on legibility, on abandoned algebra, on graph technique or on the tier, and roughly how long the specific repair takes. Write that estimate down, because it is what the six-week review measures against. A tutor who cannot produce it has not read the marked work carefully enough.

Establish the hours first, and the rate stops mattering much

Send the syllabus code and tier, two recently marked maths papers, and a note of what the grade needs to be and why. The free trial lesson will tell you which of five common losses is costing the marks, whether the tier is right, and how many hours the specific repair needs. Then the rate is a small decision rather than the only one you were given. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time with working annotated live. Nothing is promised about a grade, and nobody travels to a UAE address because we do not offer that here.
