IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Jaddaf

Nobody buys one hour. An IB Chemistry tutor in Al Jaddaf is really a monthly commitment, so this page prices the year rather than the lesson: what a term costs at each tier in AED, cheapest first, and which months carry the marks. Dubai monthly packages in circulation start near AED 799 for eight online sessions and reach AED 1,799 for four in-home visits. IB Gram teaches DP Chemistry one to one over live video, timed to the Gulf evening, with a free trial first.

  • Monthly and annual AED totals, not just an hourly figure
  • Organic and energetics coaching with marked past-paper scripts
  • One-to-one DP Chemistry at HL and SL over live video

IB & IGCSE in Al Jaddaf

Price the year, not the hour

Hourly rates are how the Dubai tutoring market talks about money and they are almost useless for planning. A quote of AED 220 an hour means nothing until you know whether that is thirty hours or ninety, whether anything gets marked between sessions, and whether the two months that actually decide the Chemistry grade are inside the arrangement or outside it. Al Jaddaf families routinely agree an hourly rate and then discover the annual figure by accident, three invoices in.

So this page works in months and terms. The monthly packages currently circulating in the Dubai market start around AED 799 for eight online sessions, and run to AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. The Bestimate rate survey for Dubai estimates monthly spend on weekly one-hour sessions at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Those are market numbers from named sources, not an IB Gram price list.

Chemistry has a particular cost shape that physics and maths do not share, and it is worth understanding before you commit a term. Most of the grade movement in DP Chemistry happens in two places: organic chemistry, which arrives late and compounds, and the internally assessed investigation, which carries 20 per cent and is marked out of 24. A family that spends evenly across the year usually underspends on both and overspends on stoichiometry, which the student had already understood by October.

Al Jaddaf itself shapes the logistics rather than the teaching. The neighbourhood sits on the creek between Dubai Healthcare City and Ras Al Khor, with Culture Village to the north and Festival City across the water. Families here draw from a scatter of campuses rather than one, so there is no single school bell that sets the evening schedule. What there is, consistently, is a narrow window between arriving home and losing the student's concentration, and the sessions that survive a whole term are the ones booked inside it.

Below: the annual arithmetic, what organic chemistry costs to fix and why waiting makes it dearer, the investigation boundaries under IB academic-honesty rules, how group and centre provision compares on price, and the order to spend in if the budget is fixed. There is also the Ministry of Education equivalency rule for the British track, stated with the correct subject count, because a provider ranking well for these queries currently publishes the wrong one and families act on it. None of it assumes a particular budget. Several of the most useful moves in a Chemistry year cost nothing at all: reading the school's own inspection report, asking the subject teacher which topics remain unscheduled, and having a marked script read before any hours are agreed. Teaching is delivered one to one over live video. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry shows up at three stages of an IB school career in Dubai, and the cost of support at each stage is wildly different. What follows is what each stage demands and what money buys there.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Two years at Higher or Standard Level, built around structure and reactivity: particulate models, bonding, classification of matter, energetics, chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, redox, and organic chemistry. Assessment runs across Paper 1, split into multiple choice and a data-based section, Paper 2 of extended response, and the scientific investigation common to all DP sciences. HL content sits inside each topic rather than as a separate block.

The practical issue for an Al Jaddaf family is sequencing. Organic chemistry and the harder equilibrium work land in DP Year 2 at most schools near the creek, often in the same term as the investigation deadline and the mock window. That collision is why Chemistry tutoring demand in this corridor spikes in the autumn of Year 13, and why the tutors who can teach it are already booked by then.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Chemistry sits within MYP Sciences, assessed against four criteria each marked out of eight: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Mole calculations, balancing and the beginnings of bonding appear here, along with the first formal expectation that a student designs a fair test and evaluates its reliability.

MYP Chemistry support is the cheapest money an Al Jaddaf family will ever spend on this subject, and the least often spent. A student who leaves MYP uncertain about moles carries that uncertainty into every DP calculation, where it is no longer a topic but a permanent tax on every paper. Four sessions on mole arithmetic in Year 10 replaces a term of DP rescue work at double the rate.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry as the DP entry route

Many creek-side students reach DP Chemistry from Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620 or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1. Both cover the particulate model, bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, electrolysis, rates and basic organic families. Neither asks for the mechanistic reasoning, the energy-cycle construction or the quantitative equilibrium treatment that the Diploma expects from the first term.

An A* at 0620 is routinely read as a signal that no DP support is needed, and it is the wrong signal. IGCSE rewards recall and single-step calculation; DP Chemistry rewards explanation of why a reaction proceeds. Six sessions in the summer between Year 11 and Year 12 on bonding explanations and energy cycles costs a fraction of the term of remedial work that otherwise starts in November.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

DP Chemistry is one course, but tutoring hours get allocated by topic, and the price of a fix varies enormously between them. Here is what each area assesses and what it costs to repair.

Stoichiometric relationships

HL and SL

Moles, concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield and gas calculations. Cheap to fix and usually fixed too late. The classic loss is a correct method applied to an unbalanced equation, which costs every subsequent mark in the question even when the arithmetic is flawless.

Atomic structure and periodicity

HL and SL

Electron configurations, ionisation energy trends and periodic patterns, with HL extending into successive ionisation energies and transition-metal behaviour. Trend questions ask for explanation, not description; candidates who state that ionisation energy increases across a period without naming nuclear charge and shielding score half.

Bonding and structure

HL and SL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces, shapes of molecules and hybridisation at HL. Marks drain away on boiling-point comparisons where a student names hydrogen bonding but never says between which molecules, which is the part the mark scheme is actually looking for.

Energetics and thermochemistry

HL and SL

Enthalpy changes, calorimetry, Hess cycles and, at HL, Born-Haber and entropy with Gibbs free energy. Sign errors dominate. A student who builds a correct cycle and then adds where they should subtract loses the whole question, and no amount of content revision prevents it without drilled practice.

Chemical kinetics

HL and SL

Rate measurement, collision theory and activation energy, with HL adding rate laws, orders of reaction and the Arrhenius treatment. Order-determination questions are reliably answerable once a student stops reading a table left to right and starts holding every variable but one constant.

Equilibrium

HL and SL

Dynamic equilibrium, Le Chatelier reasoning, and quantitative equilibrium constants at HL. The expensive error is explaining a shift by saying the equilibrium moves to oppose the change without ever naming which side and which species, which is the marked content.

Acids, bases and redox

HL and SL

pH, strong and weak behaviour, titration curves, buffers at HL, oxidation states, half-equations and electrochemical cells. Titration-curve questions carry a lot of marks for relatively little content, which makes them unusually good value for a short tutoring block.

Organic chemistry

HL and SL

Functional groups, reaction pathways, mechanisms, isomerism and, at HL, nucleophilic substitution routes, stereochemistry and synthetic sequences. This is the topic that consumes tutoring budgets, because it compounds: a student who missed the first mechanism cannot reason about the fourth.

Measurement, analysis and uncertainty

HL and SL

Percentage uncertainty, significant figures, spectroscopic interpretation and graphical analysis. Assessed in the data-based section of Paper 1 and in the investigation, and almost never taught as a distinct skill in a crowded school scheme of work.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

The internally assessed report, 20 per cent of the grade at both levels, marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The costliest error is choosing a reaction whose rate cannot be measured reliably with school apparatus, which no later editing repairs.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover nearly every DP Chemistry request from this corridor, and they price out very differently across a full academic year rather than per hour.

Weekly slot held for the year

One fixed session a week across the academic year, tracking the school's scheme of work and pausing for internal deadlines. Over a year this is the most predictable total spend, and it is the only format where a tutor sees an organic chemistry gap forming rather than inheriting it after a mock.

  • A 60- or 90-minute slot in the Gulf Standard Time evening window
  • Past-paper questions marked to published criteria between sessions
  • A shared record of which syllabus topics the school has not reached
  • Paused during school assessment weeks rather than cancelled

Topic blocks priced as a unit

A defined set of sessions on one diagnosed problem: organic mechanisms, Hess cycle signs, titration curves. Easier to budget than an open arrangement because the number of sessions is fixed before it starts and the test of success is a re-marked script.

  • Diagnosis from a marked paper before the block is agreed
  • A stated session count with a defined end point
  • Re-marked questions on the same topic at the close of the block
  • Extended only where the marked evidence supports extending it

Investigation and final-stretch support

Concentrated help at the two points where Chemistry marks cluster: the internally assessed investigation and the weeks before the exam series. The tutor coaches method on the student's own data and reads drafts the student has written. No part of the report is written or completed for them.

  • Research question narrowed until the measurement is actually reliable
  • Uncertainty treatment and graphing checked against the criteria
  • Timed Paper 2 extended-response practice under exam conditions
  • Written feedback on the student's own drafts, never replacement text

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Jaddaf

01

What a year of IB Chemistry support actually costs

Start at the cheap end and work up, because that is the order a budget is decided in. The lowest real option in Dubai is budget online tutoring: Tutopiya advertises from roughly AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Across a school year at one session a week that is perhaps AED 1,400 to 2,600 in total, and for a Year 9 student needing homework structure it is money well spent. For DP Chemistry organic mechanisms it buys someone reading ahead of your child.

A step up, Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB tuition from AED 200, which is the honest marker for a qualified subject tutor working online. Thirty sessions at that level across a year lands between AED 4,500 and AED 9,000. The Bestimate survey frames the same territory monthly instead: AED 600 to 1,200 a month for mid-tier weekly sessions, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month for specialist exam-year support. Specialist hourly rates run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the premium named end.

The packages in circulation are where the annual arithmetic becomes visible. AED 799 a month for eight online sessions works out near AED 100 a session, which is unusually cheap for the tier it claims; AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits works out near AED 200 an hour with travel folded in. Over nine academic months the first is roughly AED 7,200 and the second roughly AED 14,400 to 16,200. That gap is the number worth thinking about, and it is almost never presented to parents in annual form.

IB Gram publishes no rate card against these bands, deliberately. What a Chemistry year costs depends on whether the student is twenty months out or seven weeks out, and on whether the problem is one topic or six. The sequence we use is a free trial lesson, then a short block with a stated end point, then a longer commitment only if marked evidence supports one. The figures above exist so you can price any quote you are given, from us or anyone else.

Organic chemistry is where a Chemistry budget disappears

  • Organic is cumulative: a missed mechanism blocks every later one
  • Most creek-side schools teach it in DP Year 2, next to the investigation deadline
  • Diagnose by asking for a predicted product with a reason, not by asking if it feels hard
  • Sessions should be mostly the student drawing, not the tutor explaining

Every DP Chemistry topic can be fixed. Organic chemistry is the one that gets dearer the longer it waits, and that single property explains most of the money Al Jaddaf families lose on this subject. The reason is structural rather than mysterious: organic chemistry is cumulative in a way that energetics is not. A student can miss Hess cycles entirely, learn them in a fortnight, and be fine. A student who never understood why a nucleophile attacks a particular carbon cannot reason about elimination, cannot predict a product, and cannot follow a synthetic route, because each of those depends on the one before.

Schools in this corridor generally teach organic late. At most campuses near the creek it arrives in DP Year 2, frequently in the same term as the investigation deadline and the mock window. By the time a mock grade reveals the problem, the student has perhaps twelve weeks, the topic has four or five layers of dependency, and the tutors who teach it well are already holding full evening schedules. That is why a January enquiry costs more in total than an October one at the same hourly rate.

The diagnosis is easy to make early and nearly impossible to make from a conversation. Ask the student to predict the product of a reaction they have not seen and explain why. A student who can name the mechanism but not say which atom is electron-deficient has a gap that will widen with every subsequent lesson. That is a six to eight session block in DP Year 1, or a term of expensive remedial work in Year 13, and it is the same gap either way.

There is a related trap on the spending side. Organic chemistry rewards practice with a pen more than explanation, so sessions that consist entirely of a tutor talking through mechanisms are poor value however good the talking is. The useful shape is short explanation, then the student drawing mechanisms while the tutor watches and interrupts. Ask any prospective tutor what proportion of a session the student spends writing. A tutor who has taught this topic will have a number ready.

03

HL or SL Chemistry, and what the wrong choice costs

The HL and SL decision is made in the first weeks of the Diploma and it is the largest single determinant of what Chemistry will cost a family over two years. HL carries additional content inside every topic rather than as a separate bolt-on, which means the extra load is distributed and therefore easy to underestimate when the choice is made. A student who takes HL because a university prospectus mentioned it, without having tested whether they can hold quantitative equilibrium and mechanistic reasoning together, may spend two years buying support for a decision made in a fortnight.

The reverse error is real too and less discussed. A student who drops to SL to protect their overall points, and later finds that a competitive course expects HL Chemistry, has closed a door that tutoring cannot reopen. This is where a tutor is genuinely useful before any teaching starts: an experienced DP Chemistry teacher can look at a student's MYP or IGCSE work and say honestly whether HL is a stretch or a wall. That conversation costs one session.

What the table below sets out is the comparison that matters for planning, rather than a list of topic headings. Both levels sit the same style of paper and both carry the investigation at 20 per cent, which surprises families who assume the internal assessment is lighter at Standard Level. It is not. The difference is in the depth of the content each paper draws on and in the reasoning the extended responses expect.

Nothing on this page should be read as a claim that tutoring is required for a particular level, a university course or Ministry of Education equivalency. It is not. Plenty of students take HL Chemistry with no outside support at all. The argument here is narrower: if you are going to spend, the level decision changes what the spend should be aimed at, and making it deliberately is free.

The Chemistry investigation: 24 marks, and a hard limit on help

  • Design decides the mark; writing cannot rescue unreliable data
  • Enough repeats to report random uncertainty, or the analysis criterion collapses
  • Uncertainty must carry through to the conclusion, not stop at the table
  • Feedback on the student's own draft is allowed; producing any part of it is not

A fifth of the DP Chemistry grade comes from the scientific investigation, marked out of 24 against research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. For a family budgeting a Chemistry year it is the best-value block available, because it happens in ordinary weeks, on the student's own timetable, and the marks are no less real than exam marks. It is also the block most often postponed until the deadline is close enough to make calm work impossible.

Chemistry investigations fail at the design stage more than physics ones do, because reactions are messier than motion. A rate experiment whose temperature drifts, a titration with too few repeats, a reaction monitored by eye rather than by a measurable quantity: each of these produces data that cannot support a conclusion, and no amount of careful writing afterwards fixes it. A tutor who reads the proposal in week one is worth several who read the draft in week ten, and costs the same per hour.

The boundary on a tutor's involvement is firm and non-negotiable. Under IB academic-honesty rules the investigation must be the student's own work. A tutor may teach uncertainty propagation, ask whether a variable is genuinely controlled, explain what the evaluation criterion rewards, and give written feedback on a draft the student has produced. A tutor may not write any section, supply or adjust data, or edit the report into its final state. Providers in this market sell completed internal assessments; that is a malpractice trigger for the student, not a shortcut.

Say that boundary out loud to any tutor before hiring them, and listen carefully to the reply. A tutor who explains where the line sits and how they work inside it has supervised real Diploma students. A tutor who promises a polished report has told you something important about what they are selling, and the risk falls entirely on your child.

05

Group classes and centres compared on cost per useful hour

Tuition centres in Dubai price group Chemistry classes well below any one-to-one rate, and for some students that is the correct purchase. The question is not whether group teaching is cheaper per hour, because it plainly is. The question is cost per useful hour, and that depends almost entirely on whether the student's problem is shared with the rest of the group.

Group provision works when the gap is content coverage. A class of eight students who all need equilibrium taught properly can be taught equilibrium properly, and each family pays a fraction of a private rate. Group provision fails when the gap is individual: a student whose Hess cycles always carry a sign error, or who cannot explain which atom a nucleophile attacks, needs somebody watching them write. In a group of eight, nobody is watching any individual write for more than a couple of minutes an hour, so a two-hour class may deliver fifteen useful minutes at a very attractive hourly rate.

The in-home option occupies a different position again, and it is the one Al Jaddaf families are most often quoted without an alternative. Bestimate records in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Set against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor working online, the difference is travel. A tutor reaching the creek for 17:00 spends roughly three hours of their day on one paid hour, and the rate carries that. It also narrows your choice to whoever will make the journey.

To be unambiguous about what is on offer here: IB Gram does not provide home visits in the UAE. Teaching for UAE families runs one to one over live video, screen-shared, with tutor and student annotating the same mechanism or the same titration curve. In-home visiting is a service we operate only in India. The AED 180 to 500 band above is the market's published rate, quoted for comparison rather than offered.

Ramadan, holidays and the cost of a lost term

  • Move sessions after iftar rather than pausing through Ramadan
  • Shorter and more frequent beats long and heavy for a fasting student
  • Summer travel is the cheapest teaching window, not an unavoidable gap
  • UAE sits Cambridge June and November; the February-March series is India only

The UAE academic calendar interacts with Chemistry revision in ways that are easy to plan around and expensive to ignore. Ramadan brings shortened school days and a very different household rhythm, and a weekly session fixed at 17:00 will not survive it. Families who plan for that keep continuity; families who do not usually lose four to six weeks, and in a cumulative subject like organic chemistry those weeks compound rather than simply disappear.

The workable adjustment is to move rather than pause. Sessions shifted to after iftar, or consolidated into weekend blocks, keep the thread intact. Where a student is fasting, shorter and more frequent is better than long and heavy, because concentration rather than willingness is the constraint. A tutor who has taught through Ramadan in the Gulf will propose this without being asked; one who has not will keep the 17:00 slot and then wonder why attendance collapsed.

The long summer break is the other calendar feature with a direct cost consequence, and for Chemistry it cuts both ways. Students travelling for six or eight weeks lose material, and the transition points suffer most: the gap between IGCSE and DP Year 1, and the gap between DP Year 1 and Year 2. Online delivery means a family in Europe or South Asia over the summer can keep a weekly session running in a different time zone, which turns the most dangerous break in the calendar into the cheapest teaching weeks of the year.

One honest note about exam timing, because this market is full of confidently wrong dates. IB Diploma candidates in the UAE sit the May session, with November available as an alternative. Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June and November series; the February and March series is offered to India only, so any Dubai provider quoting February dates is working from the wrong country's calendar. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May or June and in November. We do not publish specific IB session or results dates here, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and an unverified date on a parent-facing page is worse than no date at all.

07

Chemistry, medicine and Ministry of Education equivalency

A sizeable share of the DP Chemistry enquiries from this corridor come from families whose child is aiming at medicine or another competitive science route, and the Chemistry grade carries real weight there. What matters for planning is that university requirements are published by the universities themselves and vary considerably, so the only reliable source is the named course's own entry page. Higher Level Chemistry is commonly expected for medicine and for chemistry degrees; that is a pattern worth knowing, not a rule to assume.

Separately from university admission sits Ministry of Education equivalency, which is the process by which a UAE certificate equivalency is issued for an international qualification. For the British track the requirements are published and specific: a student must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a six-subject figure, which is wrong.

For the American track, English proficiency is met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB there is no points threshold published in the source we read, and we will not invent one. Any IB equivalency figure should be confirmed on moe.gov.ae or with the relevant attestation authority directly.

IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency or attestation for any family, and nothing about tutoring is required for it. The process belongs to the Ministry and to the attestation authority, and the official channel is the only one that can give you a binding answer about your child's documents. What a tutor can do is make sure the grades the process looks at are the best the student can produce.

Spending in the right order when the budget is fixed

  • Buy the diagnosis before buying any hours; it is free and it halves the bill
  • Investigation design in DP Year 1, where 20 per cent of the grade sits
  • Organic chemistry early, because the cost of it rises every week it waits
  • Reserve the final-stretch block in autumn; availability closes before price rises

Most families have a number in mind rather than an open budget, and the order of spending decides how much of the grade that number buys. The order that works for DP Chemistry is counter-intuitive, because it puts the cheapest and calmest work first and leaves the most expensive weeks for the thing that genuinely needs them.

First purchase: a diagnosis. Send a marked Chemistry paper and have a tutor read it before buying any hours. Patterns show up immediately and they are specific. Correct method on an unbalanced equation is one problem. Hess cycles with inverted signs is another. Bonding explanations that name hydrogen bonding without naming the molecules is a third. Each has a different fix of a different length, and guessing between them is what turns a four-session need into a twelve-session invoice.

Second purchase: investigation design, early in DP Year 1. Twenty per cent of the grade, in calm weeks, at the ordinary hourly rate. Third purchase: organic chemistry, as soon as the school starts it and ideally a little before. This is the block that becomes dearer with every week of delay, and the only one where early spending reliably reduces total spending. Fourth purchase: timed Paper 2 practice with every script marked, booked in the autumn even though it is used in the spring, because availability rather than price is the binding constraint by then.

What this leaves out matters as much as what it includes. General revision across the whole syllabus is the most commonly bought and least effective Chemistry purchase in this market. It feels thorough and it is mostly re-covering what the student already knows, at AED 200 an hour or more. If a tutor proposes it before reading a marked script, that is useful information about the tutor.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Jaddaf

Al Jaddaf shares its school routes and evening timings with the neighbourhoods along the creek and south towards Meydan. These are the areas whose families compete for the same session slots.

Al Jaddaf

Mid-rise residential beside Dubai Healthcare City, with Swiss International Scientific School Dubai on the creek. Short journeys home mean a 16:30 Chemistry slot is genuinely workable here, unlike in the outer communities.

Culture Village

The waterfront strip to the north, towers and low-rise villas along the creek bend. Households here frequently run siblings on different boards, so a DP Chemistry slot is usually fitted around an IGCSE session already in place.

Dubai Festival City

Directly across the water, feeding Deira International School and Universal American School Dubai. The Garhoud crossing at pick-up time pushes most weekday Chemistry sessions to 17:00 or later.

Business Bay

Canal-side towers a few minutes along the water, with two working parents in most households. Weekend morning blocks are the reliable option here, and they are also where two-hour organic chemistry sessions actually fit.

Sobha Hartland

South of the creek with Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai nearby. Larger DP cohorts mean HL Chemistry is usually its own teaching group, so school coverage is more complete than at smaller campuses.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Mixed industrial and residential with Westminster School Dubai. A large share of Dubai's freelance tutors live in this belt, which explains the wide spread of in-home quotes creek-side families receive.

Meydan and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Newer, lower-density communities with long school runs. Students arrive home late, so evening Chemistry sessions start from 18:00 and weekend blocks carry most of the revision work.

Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities near Kings' School Nad Al Sheba and Dubai Modern High School. Travel distance is the whole reason in-home tutoring quotes here sit at the upper end of the published Dubai range.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Jaddaf

The creek side: Al Jaddaf, Healthcare City and Festival City

Schools nearest Al Jaddaf run a mix of IB continuum, British and American provision. DP Chemistry is taught at the IB campuses; students at the others usually meet chemistry through IGCSE or an American science sequence before any Diploma choice is made. Students we support attend schools across this group.

  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • The Indian High School Dubai
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School
  • Credence High School

Inland: Sobha Hartland, Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

South of the creek the cluster tilts towards large British-curriculum campuses with established Diploma streams. These schools typically timetable HL Chemistry separately from SL, which changes what a tutor is being asked to cover and therefore what the term costs.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send a marked Chemistry script

Share the most recent marked paper along with the level and the school. A marked script shows in ten minutes what a conversation reveals over three sessions: whether marks are going on balancing, on sign errors, on mechanism reasoning, or on writing too little for the marks offered.

  2. 02

    Receive a named match

We propose a tutor whose DP Chemistry teaching covers the topics in question, with their HL and SL experience and investigation supervision stated. If organic chemistry is the problem, we say so to the tutor before the first session rather than after it.

  3. 03

    Use the free trial lesson

The trial runs on a real question from the student's own course. You watch how the tutor handles a mechanism or an enthalpy cycle, and the student decides whether the explanation lands. No payment is taken before this point and no commitment follows automatically.

  4. 04

Fix a shape and a total

Weekly through the year, a defined topic block, or a final-stretch package. We state the session count and the evidence that will show whether it worked, so the arrangement has an end rather than running until somebody remembers to cancel it.

  5. 05

    Review against re-marked work

Progress is measured on re-marked questions in the same topic, not on how the sessions felt. If the marks have not moved by the end of a block, the method changes or the tutor does. That review is the step that stops a Chemistry budget leaking quietly for a year.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Annual figures, not just hourly ones

Monthly and yearly totals are set out in AED alongside the hourly rates, each attributed to the provider or survey that published it. Three of the six best-ranking pages for this query publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars.

Organic chemistry treated as the priority it is

The topic that compounds gets attention first, with sessions built around the student drawing mechanisms rather than listening to them being drawn. Leaving it until a mock grade arrives is the most expensive sequencing decision available.

Marked scripts between every session

Past-paper questions are marked against published criteria and returned with the specific loss named. A student who explains equilibrium fluently and still writes a two-mark answer to a four-mark question has a gap only marking exposes.

Academic-honesty limits stated in writing

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own investigation. Nobody writes, supplies data for, or edits assessed work to completion. Providers in this market sell finished internal assessments, and that is an expulsion risk for the student.

Sourced facts, including the ones that correct competitors

The Ministry of Education British-track rule is five IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded. A ranking page in this market publishes six. Accuracy on a checkable fact is cheap and rare.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Jaddaf: your questions answered

What does a full year of IB Chemistry tutoring cost in Dubai?+

At one session a week across a school year, budget online tutoring totals roughly AED 1,400 to 2,600 using Tutopiya's AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik's AED 45 to 65 published rates. A qualified subject tutor at Unitors' published AED 150 to 200 and upward lands between AED 5,400 and 10,800. Specialist IB rates of AED 200 to 450, including TutorChase at AED 270, run from AED 7,200 upward. The monthly packages circulating locally give the clearest comparison: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home visits.

Why do people say organic chemistry is the expensive topic?+

Because it compounds. A student who misses Hess cycles can learn them in a fortnight and be fine, since nothing later depends on them. A student who never understood why a nucleophile attacks a particular carbon cannot then reason about elimination, predict a product or follow a synthetic route, because each step rests on the one before. Most schools near the creek teach organic in DP Year 2, so the problem surfaces with twelve weeks left and four layers of dependency. The same gap costs six to eight sessions in Year 1 and a whole term in Year 13.

Should an Al Jaddaf family take the AED 799 monthly package or pay per session?+

It is, once the need is established and the tutor is proven, and poor value before either. AED 799 a month for eight online sessions works out near AED 100 a session, well below the AED 150 to 300 a qualified subject tutor normally commands, and that discount is bought with commitment. The sensible order is a free trial lesson, then a short block with a stated end point and marked evidence, then a package if the evidence supports it. Committing to a term before anyone has seen the student work is how tutoring money gets stranded.

How do I tell whether my daughter needs HL or SL Chemistry?+

Ask an experienced DP Chemistry teacher to look at her actual work rather than her grades. HL adds content inside every topic rather than as a separate block, so the extra load is spread out and easy to underestimate when the choice is made in the first weeks. The practical test is whether she can hold quantitative reasoning and mechanistic reasoning together under time pressure. Also check the entry requirements of the specific courses she is considering, since Higher Level Chemistry is commonly expected for medicine and chemistry degrees but requirements are set by each university.

Exactly what may a paid tutor touch on the Chemistry investigation report?+

Yes, inside clear limits. A tutor may help narrow a research question until the measurement is reliable, teach uncertainty propagation, question whether a variable is genuinely controlled, explain what the evaluation criterion rewards, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write any section, supply or alter data, or edit the report into final form. The investigation is 20 per cent of the grade at both levels, marked out of 24, and it must be the student's own work. Any provider offering a finished report is offering a malpractice finding.

Are group Chemistry classes at a centre worth the saving?+

It depends on whether the problem is shared. Group teaching works well for content coverage: eight students who all need equilibrium taught properly can be taught it properly at a fraction of a private rate. It works badly for individual technique faults. A student whose Hess cycles always carry a sign error needs somebody watching them write, and in a class of eight nobody watches any individual write for more than a couple of minutes an hour. A cheap two-hour class can deliver fifteen useful minutes, which is not a saving.

Will a weekly Chemistry slot survive the shortened Ramadan school day?+

Move them rather than pause them. A slot fixed at 17:00 will not survive shortened school days and a changed household rhythm, and families who simply suspend usually lose four to six weeks. In a cumulative subject those weeks compound. Sessions shifted to after iftar, or consolidated into weekend blocks, keep the thread intact. For a fasting student, shorter and more frequent beats long and heavy, because concentration rather than willingness is the limit. A tutor who has taught through Ramadan in the Gulf will suggest this without being asked.

Does my son need Higher Level Chemistry for medicine?+

Commonly, yes, but the requirement belongs to each university rather than to a general rule, so the only reliable source is the entry page of the specific course. Higher Level Chemistry is widely expected for medicine and for chemistry degrees, and dropping to Standard Level to protect overall points can close doors that cannot be reopened later. Equally, nothing about tutoring is required for admission anywhere; plenty of students take HL Chemistry with no outside support. Check the named courses first, then decide on level, then decide whether support is needed.

What are the UAE equivalency rules for an IGCSE student?+

For the British track the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One ranking provider in this market states six subjects, which is wrong. For the IB no points threshold appears in the source we read, so confirm any IB figure on moe.gov.ae. IB Gram does not perform or guarantee equivalency; the authority's own channel is the only binding one.

Can online teaching work for a subject with so much practical work?+

For the assessed parts of DP Chemistry, yes. Nothing in Paper 1, Paper 2 or the investigation report requires the tutor to be physically present. Screen-sharing a mechanism, annotating a titration curve together and working through percentage uncertainty line by line is often clearer on a shared screen than across a table. Practical work itself happens at school, where the apparatus and the technician are. What online delivery changes is choice: an Al Jaddaf family can work with a tutor who teaches HL organic well rather than one who happens to drive past the creek.

Which Chemistry topics give the best return for a short block?+

Titration curves and acid-base reasoning carry a lot of marks for relatively little content, which makes them unusually efficient for a four to six session block. Energetics sign discipline is similar: the content is small, the losses are large and drilled practice fixes it. Order-of-reaction determination responds quickly once a student learns to hold every variable but one constant. Organic mechanisms are the opposite case: high value but slow, and best started early rather than compressed. General revision across the whole syllabus is the least efficient purchase available.

My child understands chemistry but writes short answers. What is that?+

That is a command-term problem and it is the cheapest fix in the subject. Describe, explain, deduce, state and justify each ask for a different amount of writing, and a candidate who writes one line for a four-mark explain question loses marks they fully understood. It is invisible in conversation and obvious on a marked script, which is exactly why a tutoring arrangement without marked papers is a weak purchase. Four sessions spent matching answer length to mark allocation, with every attempt marked, usually moves more marks than a term of content revision.

When should we book if exams are the target?+

Earlier than feels necessary, because what runs out is availability rather than affordability. The hourly rate does not rise as the exam series approaches, but the DP Chemistry tutors who teach HL organic well have full evening schedules in Gulf Standard Time by then, and that window is the one every UAE family wants. A parent who fixes a weekly slot in the autumn pays the same as one who fixes it in the spring and chooses from a much better set. If a final-stretch block is coming, reserve it while there is still a choice.

What if you have no Chemistry specialist free for our slot?+

Then we say so. Most providers in this market disclose no coverage limit at all, and the usual quiet substitute is a general science tutor at a specialist rate, which costs a family a term as well as the fees. When no suitable DP Chemistry tutor has a slot in the Gulf evening window, we will normally offer a different time, a tutor in another time zone whose availability overlaps the UAE evening, or a start a fortnight or so out. Occasionally the honest answer is that we cannot cover it this term.

Work out the annual number before the first session

An hourly rate tells an Al Jaddaf family almost nothing. Eight sessions a month at AED 100 and four in-home visits at AED 200 an hour are both defensible purchases, and over nine months they differ by more than AED 7,000. The figures on this page, each attributed to the provider that published them, exist so you can do that arithmetic before you agree to anything. Then send the most recent marked Chemistry script, take the free trial lesson, and ask for a plan with a session count and an end point. Teaching runs one to one, live online, in the Gulf evening.
