IB Physics Tutor in Al Jaddaf

Hiring an IB Physics tutor in Al Jaddaf is a spending decision before it is an academic one, so this page starts with money. Market rates across the Dubai creek corridor run from AED 45 an hour at the student-tutor end to AED 650 at the named-examiner end, and most Al Jaddaf families land somewhere in between without ever being told what the gap buys. IB Gram delivers one-to-one DP Physics teaching live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson before any payment.

IB & IGCSE in Al Jaddaf

Start with the invoice, not the brochure

A parent in Al Jaddaf searching for an IB Physics tutor is usually three or four weeks into a problem. A mock paper came back at a 4. The school's subject teacher has thirty students and a Paper 3 option to finish. Somebody in a building WhatsApp group recommended a tutor at AED 300 an hour, and somebody else said their nephew charges AED 90. Neither number came with an explanation, and that is the real difficulty: the Dubai tutoring market publishes almost no prices, so families negotiate blind.

This page fixes that first. Every AED figure on it is a market figure from a named provider or a published rate survey, with the tier it belongs to stated plainly. None of them is an IB Gram price list, because our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about how many weeks are left rather than a rate card. What the figures do is let you work out, before you commit, whether a quote you have been given is cheap, normal or steep for the thing being sold.

The second half of the money question is harder and nobody writes about it: where does the spend actually get wasted? In DP Physics the answer is specific. It is wasted on general science tutors re-teaching mechanics that the student already follows. It is wasted on hours spent on Topic 1 and Topic 2 while the Paper 3 option sits untouched until April. It is wasted on sessions with no past-paper marking, because a student who can explain an idea verbally and still writes a two-mark answer for a four-mark question has a technique problem that only marked scripts expose.

Al Jaddaf sits on the creek between Dubai Healthcare City and Ras Al Khor, with Festival City across the water and Culture Village immediately north. Families here draw from a wide spread of schools rather than one dominant campus, and that matters for tutoring economics: a tutor who happens to live nearby is not more likely to teach your child's Paper 3 option than one who lives in Al Quoz. Geography stops being a useful selection filter the moment delivery moves to video, which is why we match on syllabus coverage instead.

What follows is the cost of IB Physics support in this market, the assessment structure that explains why some hours are worth more than others, the sequencing that gets the most out of a fixed budget across two years, and the honest limits of what any tutor can do. Lessons are delivered online, one to one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears in three different shapes across an IB school career, and the cost of support differs sharply between them. Below is what each stage asks of a student in Dubai, and what tutoring at that stage is realistically buying.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Two years, taken at Higher or Standard Level. The current course is organised around themes covering space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. Assessment is Paper 1 split into a multiple-choice section and a data-based section, Paper 2 of extended response questions, and the scientific investigation that all DP sciences now share. HL adds additional higher level content within each theme rather than a separate bolt-on syllabus.

In Al Jaddaf the DP Physics cohort is small at most schools, often a single teaching group covering both HL and SL in the same room. That has a direct cost consequence: HL-only content gets compressed, and families end up buying tutoring to cover material the timetable never reached rather than material the student failed to understand. Ask the subject teacher which HL sections are scheduled for the summer term before booking hours.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Physics sits inside integrated or discrete MYP Sciences, assessed against four criteria: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Each criterion is marked out of eight. The habits that decide DP Physics grades are built here, particularly the processing and evaluating criterion, which is where uncertainty, graphing and error analysis first appear in a formal mark scheme.

MYP Physics support is the cheapest intervention available to an Al Jaddaf family and the one most often skipped. A Year 10 student who cannot draw a line of best fit with error bars will lose the same marks in DP two years later, at three times the hourly rate, under exam pressure. Buying four MYP sessions on graphing is a smaller spend than buying twelve DP sessions on data analysis in Year 13.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the DP entry route

Many students in this part of Dubai arrive at DP Physics from Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 rather than from MYP. Both cover mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity, magnetism and radioactivity, and both stop well short of the calculus-adjacent reasoning the Diploma expects. The gap is not content coverage; it is the move from recall and substitution to multi-step derivation and justification.

The IGCSE-to-DP Physics transition is the single most predictable place an Al Jaddaf family spends money badly. A student with an A* at 0625 is often told no support is needed, then meets uncertainty propagation in the first term and loses confidence. Six targeted sessions in the summer between Year 11 and Year 12, on algebraic rearrangement and uncertainty handling, cost less than a term of rescue work in November.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

DP Physics is one course, but the hours a tutor spends are allocated by theme, and some themes cost more to fix than others. Below is what each area assesses and where the marks drain away.

Space, time and motion

HL and SL

Kinematics, forces, momentum, circular motion and, at HL, rotational dynamics and special relativity. Marks are lost on sign conventions in momentum problems and on candidates who resolve forces correctly then forget that the component along the slope is the one doing work.

The particulate nature of matter

HL and SL

Thermal concepts, the ideal gas law, kinetic theory and current electricity. The common failure is numeric rather than conceptual: temperatures entered in degrees Celsius into a relationship that demands kelvin, and specific heat capacity questions where the mass of the container is quietly ignored.

Wave behaviour

HL and SL

Simple harmonic motion, wave characteristics, superposition, standing waves and the Doppler effect. Standing-wave questions reward a candidate who can sketch the harmonic before calculating; those who go straight to a formula routinely use the wrong fraction of a wavelength for a pipe closed at one end.

Fields

HL and SL

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, potential, orbital motion and electromagnetic induction. HL extends into field and potential gradients. The recurring loss is direction: Lenz's law questions where the induced current sign is stated without reference to the change in flux that caused it.

Nuclear and quantum physics

HL and SL

Radioactive decay, binding energy, fission and fusion, the photoelectric effect and, at HL, quantum tunnelling and the Rutherford scattering treatment. Binding-energy-per-nucleon questions are a reliable marks source once a student stops confusing mass defect with total mass.

Measurement and uncertainty

HL and SL

Not a theme in its own right but assessed in every paper and in the investigation. Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation through products and powers, significant figures and error bars. More Paper 1B marks turn on this than on any single topic in the guide.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

The internally assessed report, worth 20 per cent at both levels and marked out of 24. Criteria cover research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The most expensive mistake is a research question too broad to produce a gradient worth analysing, which no amount of later editing repairs.

Experimental and data skills

HL and SL

Reading apparatus diagrams, identifying control variables, choosing sensible axes and spotting systematic versus random error. Paper 1B presents unfamiliar apparatus and asks for judgement, so a student drilled only on recall will stall even with strong theory.

Mathematics for Physics

HL and SL

Logarithms for decay curves, trigonometric resolution, gradient and area interpretation, and rearrangement under time pressure. Students taking Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation often need this scaffolding explicitly; those on Analysis and Approaches usually need it only for log-linearisation.

Paper 3 option content

HL and SL

Where the older course structure still shapes school planning, option material is taught last and revised least. Whichever option a school runs, it is the block most likely to be unfinished in March, which makes it the highest-value tutoring hour of the whole two years.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every DP Physics request we take from this part of Dubai. Each is priced differently in the wider market, and each suits a different point in the two-year course.

Weekly one-to-one across the DP

A fixed slot held for the full academic year, moving through the themes in step with the school's scheme of work and pausing for mocks and internal deadlines. This is the format that controls total spend best, because the tutor sees problems forming rather than inheriting them after a bad mock.

  • One 60- or 90-minute session per week, same slot, Gulf Standard Time
  • Past-paper questions marked to the published criteria between sessions
  • A running list of unfinished syllabus sections shared with the parent
  • Paused rather than cancelled during school exam weeks

Targeted repair blocks

Four to eight sessions aimed at one diagnosed failure: uncertainty propagation, field direction, log-linearised graphs. Cheaper in total than an open-ended arrangement and far easier to judge, because the test of success is the next marked script rather than a general feeling of progress.

  • Diagnosis from a marked paper before the block is agreed
  • A fixed number of sessions with a stated end point
  • Re-marked questions on the same topic at the end of the block
  • Extension only if the re-marked evidence supports it

Investigation and exam-run support

Short, intense support at the two points where DP Physics marks concentrate: the scientific investigation and the final eight weeks. The tutor coaches method and technique on the student's own work and own data, and reads drafts the student has written. Nobody writes or completes any part of it on the student's behalf.

  • Research question narrowed until a measurable gradient exists
  • Uncertainty treatment and graphing reviewed against the criteria
  • Timed Paper 2 and Paper 1B questions under exam conditions
  • Feedback given on the student's own drafts, never rewritten text

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Jaddaf

01

What IB Physics tutoring costs in this part of Dubai

An IB Physics tutor in Al Jaddaf costs between AED 45 and AED 650 an hour depending entirely on which tier of the market you are buying from, and the published evidence for that spread is below. The lowest band is university-student and generalist online tutoring: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52. Those rates are real, and for a Year 9 student who needs homework supervision they are reasonable value. For DP Physics Paper 3 they buy somebody learning the syllabus alongside your child.

The middle band is where most Al Jaddaf families should be looking. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 an hour and IB tutoring from AED 200, which is a fair marker for a qualified subject tutor working online. Specialist IB and A-Level rates sit higher: TutorChase quotes AED 270, and the Bestimate Dubai rate survey puts specialist tutoring at AED 200 to 450 and above. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650 for premium named tutoring. That figure is not irrational, but it is a very specific purchase, and it is not what a student two grades below target needs first.

The in-home band deserves separate attention because it is the one most Al Jaddaf parents are quoted without seeing an alternative. Bestimate records in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors across Dubai advertising between AED 200 and 500. Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits. The arithmetic matters: the visit premium is roughly a third of the bill, and it buys travel rather than teaching.

IB Gram does not publish a rate card against these bands. We start with a free trial lesson and a count of the weeks remaining, because the honest answer to how much DP Physics support costs depends on whether you are twenty months out or seven weeks out. What the table gives you is the ability to recognise an unreasonable quote when one arrives.

Which assessment components justify which hours

  • The scientific investigation is 20 per cent at both HL and SL and is marked out of 24
  • Paper 1 Section B tests uncertainty and gradient reasoning, not topic recall
  • Paper 2 marks hinge on command terms matching the number of marks offered
  • HL additional content sits inside each theme, so it is easily skipped in a shared class

Spending decisions in DP Physics get much easier once the weightings are on the table. The external assessment is split across Paper 1 and Paper 2, and the internally assessed scientific investigation carries 20 per cent at both Higher and Standard Level. That last figure is the one families consistently under-rate. A fifth of the grade is decided by a report written over several months, on the student's own schedule, with no exam-hall pressure. Hours spent there are the cheapest marks available in the whole course.

Paper 1 is worth looking at in two halves because they fail for different reasons. Section A is multiple choice across the syllabus, and it rewards breadth plus fast elimination. Section B is the data-based section: unfamiliar apparatus, a table of readings, and questions about uncertainty, gradient and systematic error. A student can be strong on theory and weak on Section B, and no amount of re-teaching mechanics will move it. That is a technique block, usually four to six sessions, and it is the highest-return repair work in the subject.

Paper 2 is extended response and it is where command terms decide the mark. Describe, explain, deduce, justify and comment all ask for different amounts of writing, and candidates who write one sentence for a four-mark 'explain' lose two marks they understood perfectly. This is why a tutoring arrangement without marked scripts is a poor purchase: the gap is invisible in conversation and obvious on paper. Ask any prospective tutor how many past-paper questions they will mark per month, and treat a vague answer as the answer.

The practical consequence for a budget is a sequencing rule. Pay for investigation support early, pay for Section B technique in the middle, and pay for timed Paper 2 practice last. Families who reverse that order spend more and gain less, because the investigation deadline passes while the money is still going on content revision.

03

Paying for travel versus paying for a specialist

Every Al Jaddaf family weighing a tutor eventually faces the same trade-off, and it is usually presented to them backwards. The question is not whether a tutor in the room is better than a tutor on a screen. The question is what you are buying with the difference in price, and in Dubai the difference is mostly fuel, traffic and a smaller pool of candidates.

Consider the geography honestly. A tutor who will travel to Al Jaddaf for a 17:00 session has to leave Al Quoz or Deira around 16:15 and will not be free again until past 19:00. That is three hours of their working day for one paid hour, and the rate reflects it. More importantly, it reduces the set of people who can teach your child to those willing to make that trip on that day, which has nothing to do with whether any of them has taught the Paper 3 option your school runs.

The comparison table below sets out what each format gives an Al Jaddaf family. Note the row on tutor pool, because it is the one that actually decides outcomes. DP Physics at HL with a specific option is a narrow specialism. The number of people in Dubai who teach it well and are free at 17:00 on a Tuesday within driving distance of the creek is small. Open delivery to video and that constraint disappears, which is why IB Gram matches on syllabus coverage rather than on proximity.

To be plain about what we do and do not sell: IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Tuition for UAE families is delivered one to one over live video, screen-shared, with the tutor and student working on the same diagram and the same past-paper question. In-home visiting is a service we run only in India. The AED 180 to 500 in-home band quoted earlier is the market's rate, reported here so you can compare it, not an offer.

The scientific investigation: 24 marks and strict limits on help

  • A gradient worth analysing is decided in week one, not at the writing stage
  • Five or more values of the independent variable, with repeats, or the analysis stalls
  • Uncertainty must propagate through to the gradient and into the conclusion
  • Feedback on the student's own draft is permitted; writing any part of it is not

A fifth of the DP Physics grade comes from the scientific investigation, marked out of 24 against criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. It is the only part of the course where a student controls the conditions completely, and it is the part most often left until the deadline is close enough to cause panic. For a family managing a budget, it is also the best value block of tutoring in the two years, because the work happens in calm weeks rather than exam weeks.

The failures are predictable and nearly all of them are design failures rather than writing failures. A research question that cannot produce a measurable gradient will not recover at the analysis stage. Too few values of the independent variable leaves a graph that cannot support a conclusion. Repeats omitted means no random uncertainty to report, which hollows out the data-analysis criterion. A tutor who reads the proposal in week one is worth more than one who reads the draft in week ten, and costs the same per hour.

There are firm limits on what a tutor may do here, and they are not negotiable. Under IB academic-honesty rules the investigation must be the student's own work. A tutor may teach uncertainty propagation, question whether a control variable is really controlled, explain what the evaluation criterion rewards, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write any part of the report, generate the data, or edit the text into its final form. Any provider offering to supply a finished investigation is offering the student a malpractice finding.

That boundary is worth stating to any tutor before you hire them. The answer tells you a great deal. A tutor who explains where the line sits and how they work inside it is a tutor who has supervised real IB students. One who promises a polished report has told you they have not, or that they do not care what happens to your child's diploma.

05

Where Al Jaddaf families waste money on Physics tutoring

  • Hiring general science cover instead of a DP Physics specialist
  • Buying a block of hours before anybody has read a marked script
  • Assuming the school will finish the option content in time
  • Paying the top band for a problem a mid-band tutor solves faster

Four spending mistakes account for most of the wasted money we see in this corridor, and all four are avoidable with one conversation before the first session. The first is hiring a general science tutor for DP Physics. Someone who teaches IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics competently may still have never marked a DP Paper 2 to criteria. At AED 150 an hour that is not a bargain; it is a slower route to the same place, paid for by the hour.

The second is buying hours without diagnosis. A parent reports that their child is struggling with physics, and twelve sessions of general revision follow. Had anyone read the marked mock first, the pattern might have been obvious: full marks on the recall questions, consistent losses on anything involving uncertainty or a gradient. That is a four-session fix, not a twelve-session one. The diagnosis costs nothing and routinely saves four figures in AED.

The third is leaving the Paper 3 option content to the school's timetable and hoping. Option material is taught last, revised least and examined fully. If a school is behind in March, the option is what is behind, and the student who has never seen half of it walks into a paper carrying marks they could have had. Asking in January which sections remain unscheduled is the single highest-value question a parent can put to a subject teacher.

The fourth is paying a premium rate for a scarce named tutor when the problem is routine. If a student cannot rearrange an equation under time pressure, that is not a problem requiring the most expensive person available. It needs a competent tutor and six weeks of drilled practice. Save the specialist rate for the problems that genuinely need a specialist: HL option depth, borderline-7 refinement, and investigation design in an unusual context.

06

Sequencing two years of DP Physics spend

  • Term one: two to three diagnostic sessions, then decide
  • DP Year 1: investigation design block plus Paper 1 Section B technique
  • DP Year 2 autumn: HL depth and whichever option sections the school has not reached
  • Final stretch: timed papers with every script marked and returned

Total cost falls sharply when support is sequenced rather than bought in response to crises. The shape that works for most Al Jaddaf families is light in the first term, concentrated around the investigation in the middle, and intense for a defined final stretch. Reactive spending inverts that: nothing happens until a mock grade arrives, then a large block is purchased in the most expensive weeks of the course, when every good tutor in the city is already fully booked.

In the first DP term the useful spend is small and diagnostic. Two or three sessions establishing whether the student can handle uncertainty, logarithms and multi-step rearrangement will tell you what the next twenty months need. If those are sound, weekly tutoring may genuinely not be necessary yet, and a parent who hears that from a tutor has found a tutor worth keeping. If they are not sound, fixing them in term one is a fraction of the cost of fixing them in term five.

The middle of the course belongs to the investigation and to Paper 1 Section B technique. Both are calm-weather work, both are cheap relative to their mark value, and both are nearly impossible to do well in the final term. A family that books a six-session investigation block and a six-session data-skills block across DP Year 1 has spent perhaps a third of a crisis budget and removed the two largest sources of lost marks.

The final stretch is for timed practice and marked scripts, and it is worth paying for properly. This is where command-term discipline, time allocation across Paper 2, and the habit of reading the mark allocation before writing all get built. Book it early in the academic year rather than when revision starts, because specialist availability in the weeks before the May session is the scarcest thing in the Dubai market and the one that prices accordingly.

KHDA, the permit, and what your fee is paying for

  • KHDA inspection reports often name the underperforming department by subject
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine schedule is published, so published fine figures are unverified
  • IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation and claims none

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak, and the published report for your child's school is worth reading before you buy tutoring, because it often names the subject departments where attainment lags. Dubai's private sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, with International Baccalaureate provision accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment.

Private tutoring itself is governed federally rather than by KHDA. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any figure you see circulating should be treated with caution. What matters practically is that the permit is free and quick, which means a tutor who has not obtained one has chosen not to. Asking is reasonable, and the answer is informative either way.

One further point, because it affects who you should and should not hire. Abu Dhabi's ADEK rules bar private and charter school staff from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit code of conduct carries a comparable restriction. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, MoE, IB or Cambridge accreditation, approval or partnership, and does not claim any. We are an independent tutor-matching platform, and our fee buys teaching hours and matching, nothing more.

08

Booking, trialling and what happens if nobody is free

  • A free trial lesson on real work, before any payment is taken
  • Matching on syllabus and option coverage rather than location
  • A clear no when no specialist can cover the slot, rather than a substitute
  • Only the details needed to arrange the match are collected

The sequence is short. You tell us the level, the school, what the last marked paper looked like and how many weeks are left. We propose a tutor whose DP Physics coverage matches that specifically, including the option topic where it is relevant. A free trial lesson runs before any payment, on a real piece of work rather than a sales call. If the match is wrong, you say so and we propose another, and nothing has been spent.

What happens when no specialist is available is a question competitors in this market avoid answering, so here is ours plainly. DP Physics at Higher Level with a particular option is a narrow specialism, and in a busy term the right tutor may not have a free slot in the Gulf Standard Time evening window. When that happens we say so rather than substituting a general science tutor at the same rate. Usually we can offer a different slot, a tutor in a different time zone whose availability overlaps the UAE evening, or a start date a fortnight out. Occasionally the honest answer is that we cannot help this term.

The practical reason to ask early is scarcity, not sales pressure. Availability for DP sciences tightens from the new year onward and is at its worst in the final weeks before the May session, which is precisely when demand peaks. A family that arranges a weekly slot in the autumn pays the same hourly rate as one that arranges it in the spring, but gets a materially better choice of tutor. That is the clearest case in this whole market where acting early is worth money.

Lead forms on this site collect a parent's name, a contact address, the student's year group, subject and level, and nothing else. That information exists to match a tutor and to arrange the trial lesson. It is not sold on, and you can ask for it to be deleted at any time; the privacy notice linked from every page sets out how. We do not ask for a child's photograph, school report or grades to arrange a trial.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Jaddaf

Al Jaddaf sits inside the creek corridor, and the areas around it share school routes and session timings rather than a single catchment. These are the neighbourhoods whose families book the same evening slots.

Al Jaddaf

Dense mid-rise residential alongside Dubai Healthcare City, with Swiss International Scientific School Dubai on the creek side. Sessions here work from 16:30 because most pupils are home within twenty minutes of the bell.

Culture Village

The Jaddaf Waterfront strip immediately north, mostly towers and low-rise villas along the creek. Families here often run two children on different curricula, so the Physics slot is negotiated around a sibling's maths session.

Dubai Festival City

Across the water, feeding Deira International School and the Universal American School. A 16:00 finish plus the Garhoud crossing means a DP Physics session rarely starts before 17:00 on a weekday.

Business Bay

Short hop along the canal, heavy with working parents whose evenings are fixed. Weekend morning sessions are disproportionately popular here, which also makes them the easiest slots to book late in the term.

Sobha Hartland

Villa and tower mix south of the creek, served by Hartland International School and North London Collegiate School Dubai. DP cohorts here are larger, so HL Physics groups are usually taught separately from SL.

Nad Al Sheba

Lower density and further out, with Kings' School Nad Al Sheba and Dubai Modern High School nearby. Travel time is the deciding factor for families here, and it is the main reason in-home quotes carry a premium.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Industrial frontage with residential pockets and Westminster School Dubai. A sizeable share of the city's freelance tutors live in this belt, which is why in-home rates quoted to creek-side families vary so widely.

Meydan and Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Newer communities with longer school runs and later arrivals home. Evening sessions from 18:00 are normal, and Physics revision blocks here tend to be scheduled in two-hour weekend units rather than weekday hours.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Jaddaf

Al Jaddaf, Healthcare City and the creek side

The schools closest to Al Jaddaf run a mix of IB continuum, British and American provision. DP Physics is offered at the IB campuses; elsewhere students meet physics through IGCSE or an American science sequence before any Diploma decision is made. Students we support attend schools across this group.

  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Deira International School
  • The Indian High School Dubai
  • Credence High School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School

Sobha Hartland, Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

South of the creek the cluster shifts towards large British-curriculum campuses with established DP streams. These are the schools where an Al Jaddaf family moving house most often lands, and where HL Physics is typically timetabled as its own group rather than shared with SL.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the marked paper

Share the most recent marked Physics script, the level, and the school. A marked paper tells a tutor in ten minutes what a conversation takes three sessions to reveal: whether the losses are content, technique or timing. Nothing useful can be planned without one.

  2. 02

    Get a specific match

We name a tutor whose DP Physics teaching covers the themes and the option your school runs, with their HL and SL experience stated. If the student is on Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, we say so to the tutor, because the mathematical scaffolding differs.

  3. 03

    Run the free trial lesson

The trial works on a real question from the student's own course, not a generic diagnostic. You see how the tutor explains a gradient or an uncertainty, and the student decides whether they can follow it. No payment is taken before this point.

  4. 04

Agree a shape and a budget

Weekly through the year, a fixed repair block, or an exam-run package. We state how many sessions and what evidence will show whether it worked, so the spend has a defined end rather than running until someone cancels it.

  5. 05

    Review on marked evidence

Progress is judged on re-marked questions in the same topic, not on how the sessions felt. If the marks have not moved after a block, the approach changes or the tutor does. That review is where a tutoring budget stops leaking.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices on the page, with sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or survey that published it, in the currency UAE parents actually transact in. Three of the six best-ranking pages for this query publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars.

Matched on syllabus, not on postcode

A tutor is proposed because they teach the themes and option your school runs. Proximity to Al Jaddaf tells you nothing about whether someone has marked a DP Physics Paper 2 to criteria, and online delivery removes it as a constraint.

Marked scripts, not impressions

Past-paper questions are marked to published criteria and returned with the specific loss identified. A student who sounds confident and writes two marks' worth for a four-mark question has a problem only marking finds.

Clear academic-honesty boundaries

A tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own investigation. Nobody writes, completes or edits assessed work to final form. Providers in this market sell completed internal assessments; that is an expulsion risk for the student.

Availability stated honestly

When no DP Physics specialist can cover a slot, we say so and offer a different time, a different tutor or a later start. Substituting a general science tutor at a specialist rate is how families lose both money and a term.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Jaddaf: your questions answered

How much should I expect to pay for an IB Physics tutor in Al Jaddaf?+

Published Dubai rates span AED 45 to 650 an hour, and the tier matters more than the area. Budget online tutoring starts around AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik and AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. Specialist IB rates run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named tutoring reaches AED 650 at BartyED. For DP Physics with a Paper 3 option, the AED 200 to 300 band is where most Al Jaddaf families find a genuine subject specialist.

Is it worth paying extra for a tutor who will travel to Al Jaddaf?+

The premium is real and it buys travel rather than teaching. Bestimate records in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor working online. A tutor driving to the creek for a 17:00 session loses three hours of their day for one paid hour, and the rate reflects that. The bigger cost is choice: you are selecting from whoever will make the trip, not from everyone who teaches your child's option. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE and delivers lessons online.

My son gets the theory but keeps losing marks on the data questions. What is that?+

That is Paper 1 Section B, and it is a technique problem rather than a knowledge one. Section B gives unfamiliar apparatus, a table of readings and questions about uncertainty, gradient and systematic error. A student can know every theme in the guide and still stall there, because the skill being tested is judgement about measurement. It usually takes four to six focused sessions on absolute and percentage uncertainty, propagation through products and powers, error bars and log-linearisation. Re-teaching mechanics will not move it, which is why a marked script is the first thing a tutor should ask for.

Can a tutor help with the DP Physics scientific investigation?+

Yes, within firm limits. A tutor may help narrow a research question until it produces a measurable gradient, teach uncertainty propagation, challenge whether a control variable is genuinely controlled, explain what each criterion rewards, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. A tutor may not write any section, generate or adjust data, or edit the report into final form. The investigation carries 20 per cent of the grade at both levels and is marked out of 24, and it must be the student's own work under IB academic-honesty rules. Any provider offering a finished report is offering a malpractice finding.

How many sessions does DP Physics usually take to turn around?+

It depends entirely on what the marked paper shows. A single diagnosable technique gap, such as uncertainty handling or command-term discipline, is often a four to six session block with re-marked evidence at the end. Unfinished option content takes longer, roughly one session per syllabus section plus practice. A student two grades below target across every component usually needs weekly support across a full year rather than a block. Anyone quoting a session count before reading a marked script is guessing, and that guess is how families end up paying for twelve sessions when four would have done.

Why does the Paper 3 option content matter so much to the budget?+

Option material is taught last, revised least and examined fully, which makes it the most reliably unfinished part of a DP Physics course. If a school is running behind in the spring, the option is what is behind. A student who meets half of it for the first time in revision is leaving marks on the table that cost nothing to secure earlier. Asking the subject teacher in January which sections remain unscheduled costs nothing and often redirects a tutoring budget from general revision, where the returns are modest, to option teaching, where they are large and immediate.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and can I ask about it?+

Yes, and yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is governed by the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The u.ae guidance states it is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published.

Is online Physics teaching really equivalent for a practical subject?+

For the assessed parts of DP Physics, yes, and in one respect it is better. Nothing in Paper 1, Paper 2 or the investigation requires the tutor to be in the room. Screen-sharing a past-paper diagram, annotating a graph together and working through uncertainty line by line is often clearer on a shared screen than over a kitchen table. What online delivery changes is the pool: an Al Jaddaf family can work with the tutor who actually teaches their option topic rather than the one who will drive to the creek at 17:00. Practical work itself happens at school, where the apparatus is.

What is the cheapest useful thing I can buy right now?+

A diagnosis. Send the most recent marked Physics paper and have a tutor read it before buying any hours. In many cases the pattern is immediately clear: full marks on recall, consistent losses on anything with a gradient or an uncertainty, or correct physics written too briefly for the mark allocation. That turns an open-ended arrangement into a defined four to six session block with a measurable end point. The second cheapest useful purchase is investigation design support early in DP Year 1, because 20 per cent of the grade is decided in calm weeks rather than exam weeks.

Which exam series do Physics students in Dubai actually sit?+

IB Diploma candidates in the UAE sit the May session, with a November session available as an alternative or resit route. For Cambridge qualifications the UAE sits the June and November series; the February and March series is offered to India only, so a Dubai parent given February dates has been given the wrong country's calendar. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May or June and in November. We do not publish specific IB exam or results dates on these pages, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date is worse than none. Confirm with your school's IB coordinator.

Does my child need a different tutor if they take Maths AI rather than AA?+

Not a different tutor, but the tutor needs to know. Students on Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation generally meet less algebraic manipulation and less work with logarithms than those on Analysis and Approaches, and DP Physics assumes a fair amount of both. The practical effect is that log-linearising a decay curve, or rearranging a three-variable relationship under time pressure, needs explicit scaffolding rather than a passing reminder. Tell the tutor at matching, not in week six. It changes the order in which the first few sessions are built and saves repeated backtracking later.

Should I buy a monthly package or pay by the hour?+

Packages in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits, which is a discount to the hourly rate in exchange for commitment. That is good value when the need is established and the tutor is proven, and poor value before a trial lesson has happened. The sensible order is a free trial, then a short block with a stated end point and marked evidence, then a longer commitment if the evidence supports it. Committing to a term before anyone has seen the student work is how tutoring budgets get stranded.

How early should an Al Jaddaf family book for the exam run?+

Earlier than feels necessary, and for a reason that has nothing to do with sales pressure. The hourly rate does not rise as exams approach, but availability collapses. DP Physics at Higher Level with a specific option is a narrow specialism, and the evening slots in Gulf Standard Time are the ones every UAE family wants. A parent who fixes a weekly slot in the autumn pays the same as one who fixes it in the spring but chooses from a far better set of tutors. If you already know an exam-run block is coming, reserve it while there is still a choice to make.

What happens if no DP Physics specialist is available for us?+

We say so. Competitors in this market rarely disclose a coverage limit, and the usual substitute is a general science tutor at a specialist rate, which wastes a term and the money. When no suitable tutor has a slot in the UAE evening window, we will normally offer a different time, a tutor in another time zone whose availability overlaps the Gulf evening, or a start date a fortnight or so out. Occasionally the honest answer is that we cannot cover it this term. That is a better outcome for a family than a confident match that turns out not to teach the course.

Decide what you are buying before you buy it

The Dubai tutoring market publishes almost no prices, which is why a family in Al Jaddaf can be quoted AED 90 and AED 300 for the same hour in the same week. The figures on this page, each attributed to the provider that published them, exist so you can tell which of those is reasonable. Then the harder question: what does this student actually need, and when? Send the most recent marked Physics paper, take the free trial lesson, and get a plan with an end point rather than an open arrangement. Lessons run one to one, live online, timed to the Gulf evening.
