Edexcel IGCSE ICT 4IT1 Tutor in Dubai

An Edexcel IGCSE ICT 4IT1 tutor in Dubai is teaching a subject with a written paper and a practical one, and the practical half is where the money questions live. Dubai market rates for qualified one-to-one teaching online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with visiting tutors advertised at AED 180 to 500. IB Gram teaches 4IT1 online over live video, and this page prices the software and entry costs that nobody else in this search quotes.

  • Dubai AED bands printed with the month each figure was checked
  • The software question answered task by task, including the database gap
  • Lessons run online over live video; no home visits in the UAE
  • First lesson free, one per family, with no card details required

The money questions in 4IT1 are not really about the hourly rate

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE ICT, code 4IT1, is one of the few subjects at this level where a family can spend money on the wrong thing entirely. The hourly rate for teaching is the visible cost and it is the one every comparison argues about. The costs that actually catch Dubai families out sit elsewhere: the database software a candidate cannot run on the laptop at home, the entry fee for a private candidate, and the hours spent teaching theory to a child whose problem is that they have never built a working spreadsheet model.

Start with the rates, since they are rarely published. Across the Dubai market in October 2026, budget platforms advertise from the mid-forties an hour, qualified subject teaching online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, visiting in-home tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate, and subject specialists for international qualifications at AED 200 to 450 and above. Monthly offers run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Small group classes are advertised at roughly AED 90 to 160 per pupil per hour.

Now the part nobody prices. The 4IT1 practical component requires a candidate to work in real software: documents, spreadsheets, a database, a presentation, image editing and web authoring. Schools provide that software and the examination centre provides the examination environment, so there is no exam-day cost. Home practice is where the gap appears, and it is specific. Most of the task areas can be practised in a free office suite with no cost at all. Database work is the exception, because the package Dubai schools most often teach does not run on macOS, and a household with only a Mac has a practice problem rather than a money problem.

The second thing that quietly changes a 4IT1 bill is the confusion between ICT and Computer Science. The two sit in the same option column in many Dubai schools and are routinely described as versions of one subject. They are not. ICT is assessed on applied competence in software; Computer Science requires writing programs. Families who hire a programming tutor for an ICT candidate pay for hours that cannot help, and the mismatch is usually discovered only after a mock.

Dubai gives this some scale. The emirate has 227 private schools serving 387,441 pupils across 17 curricula, with 37 per cent of those pupils on a UK curriculum, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year. ICT groups are generally larger than Computer Science groups, which means classroom provision is usually solid and the useful tutoring is narrower: practical technique, evidence discipline and written precision rather than content from scratch.

At a glance

  • 4IT1 has a written theory paper and a practical paper in real software.
  • Qualified online subject teaching in Dubai: roughly AED 150-300 an hour, October 2026.
  • Most practical task areas can be practised at home in a free office suite.
  • Database practice is the exception: the usual package does not run on macOS.
  • ICT is not Computer Science; a programming tutor is the wrong purchase for 4IT1.
  • Lessons for Dubai families run online over live video; home visiting is an India-only service.
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

ICT at 16 is chosen, examined and then either dropped or carried forward, and each of those three points has its own cost. The stages below are where a 4IT1 decision gets made in a Dubai school.

Year 9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Choosing ICT rather than Computer Science

The decision that prevents the most wasted money later. ICT is about applying software to real tasks and is assessed on what a candidate can produce. Computer Science is about how computation works and requires programming. A pupil who is quick and confident with software but dislikes writing code is well served by ICT and badly served by the other, and the reverse holds just as firmly.

Dubai schools frequently run both in one option column, which forces a choice and often supplies little guidance. Ask the department two questions before the form goes back: which specification code is entered, and which software packages the practical component is taught in. The second answer tells you whether the laptop at home can support practice, which is a planning matter worth knowing in Year 9 rather than in Year 11.

4IT1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE ICT

A written component covering ICT systems, networks and online services, data handling, the uses of ICT in organisations, and the legal, ethical, security and health implications of it. Alongside it sits a practical component in which candidates complete tasks in real software and produce the evidence of having done so. There is no coursework, so nothing accumulates across the two years outside examination conditions.

Dubai schools enter 4IT1 through their own Pearson centre number and the entry is made by the exams officer. Confirm the code in writing, because Cambridge also offers an ICT qualification and the practical requirements are not identical. Ask as well which packages and which versions are installed in the room where the practical component is sat, since an unfamiliar menu layout costs minutes in a timed paper.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

Where 4IT1 leads after Year 11

ICT at 16 leads most naturally into applied and vocational computing: BTEC qualifications in IT or business, A Level courses in applied or information technology where a school offers them, and business-facing routes where software competence is directly useful. It is weaker preparation for A Level Computer Science, which assumes programming the ICT course does not teach.

Dubai's post-16 provision is broadening quickly, with the 2026-27 intake adding seven new private schools and 16,846 places. Not every campus offers a vocational computing route at 16 to 18, so a family whose child is suited to the applied path should check sixth-form provision before committing to a school rather than afterwards. Asking which post-16 computing courses actually ran last year is the useful version of that question.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

4IT1 divides into a theory half and a practical half, and the marks are lost in quite different ways in each. The areas below name what the paper credits, which is usually more specific than a revision guide implies.

ICT systems, input and output devices

4IT1 written component

Hardware and peripherals, and the match between a device and a purpose. The paper asks why a given device suits a stated situation, so answers that describe the device without connecting it to the scenario score poorly even when they are accurate.

Storage, backup and file management

4IT1 written and practical

Storage types and capacities, backup strategies, and sensible file naming and folder structure. File management also carries marks in the practical component, where badly named files make a candidate's evidence hard to credit.

Networks, the internet and online services

4IT1 written component

Network types, connectivity, cloud services and the trade-offs between them. Marks go to candidates who can state a specific advantage and a specific drawback for the organisation in the question rather than in general terms.

Databases, queries and reports

4IT1 practical component

Building a table structure, running queries against stated criteria, and producing a readable report. This is the task area most Dubai candidates practise least, often because the software at home cannot run it, and it shows in practical marks.

Spreadsheet modelling and formulae

4IT1 practical component

Formulae, functions, conditional logic, charts and presentation of results. The highest-value practical area, because the tasks are prescriptive and the marks are recoverable through practice rather than through understanding.

Word processing and document layout

4IT1 practical component

Mail merge, styles, headers, tables and layout to a stated brief. Candidates lose marks by producing something that looks acceptable but does not match the brief's specific instructions, which is what is actually being marked.

Graphics, image editing and presentation

4IT1 practical component

Editing images to a specification and building a presentation to a brief. Marks attach to following the instructions precisely, including sizes, formats and placement, rather than to design quality as a matter of taste.

Security, privacy and data protection

4IT1 written component

Threats, safeguards and the obligations organisations carry over personal data. Answers need the threat and the matching safeguard linked together, which is the connection the mark scheme tests and the one candidates most often skip.

Health, safety and ergonomics

4IT1 written component

Workstation risks and the measures that reduce them. Low-tariff, reliable marks that candidates lose only by being vague, which makes this a sensible early win for someone rebuilding confidence.

Legal, ethical and environmental implications

4IT1 written component

The consequences of ICT use for individuals, organisations and the environment. The paper wants a consequence stated and attributed to a cause, not a list of concerns, and practising that shape transfers across the whole written component.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover nearly every 4IT1 request, and the right one depends on which component is weak. Practical and theory need different session shapes and different amounts of time.

Practical sessions in the software

The candidate works in the package while the teacher watches the screen, and the brief is followed instruction by instruction rather than approximately. Most practical marks are lost by producing something that looks fine and does not match the stated requirement, so the session is about reading a brief carefully and evidencing each step.

  • Candidate works, teacher watches the screen
  • Briefs followed line by line, then checked against the wording
  • File naming and evidence discipline built as a habit
  • Tasks completed to time, as the paper requires

Written component technique

Theory sessions aimed at the precision the mark scheme credits: a device matched to a stated purpose, a threat paired with its safeguard, a consequence attributed to a cause. The content is rarely the problem for an ICT candidate. The shape of the written answer almost always is, and it responds quickly to marking and rewriting.

  • Answers marked against published criteria, then rewritten
  • Scenario answers tied to the organisation in the question
  • Short timed question every session
  • Vocabulary tightened across every topic at once

Pre-series block across both components

Six to ten weeks before a Pearson window, splitting the time by where marks are actually being lost. Practical tasks sat in a setup that resembles the school's installation, because an unfamiliar menu layout costs minutes, and written questions marked line by line against the published criteria.

  • Time split by marks lost per hour of revision
  • Practical tasks attempted in a realistic environment
  • Component marks tracked paper by paper
  • A defined stop point before the exam day

What 4IT1 is, and why it is not Computer Science

The most expensive mistake available in this subject is hiring the wrong teacher, and it starts with an option-evening conversation in which ICT and Computer Science are described as two versions of the same thing. They are not related in the way the names suggest. Pearson Edexcel 4IT1 assesses whether a candidate can use software to accomplish stated tasks and explain the role of ICT in organisations. Pearson Edexcel 4CP0 assesses whether a candidate can write and debug programs and reason about how computation works.

The practical consequence is that practice material, teachers and post-16 routes all diverge. A programming specialist hired for a 4IT1 candidate will teach beautifully and irrelevantly, because the practical paper does not involve writing code. Equally, a general ICT tutor is not the right choice for a 4CP0 candidate who cannot start a program. Families discover the mismatch after a mock, by which point a term of fees has been spent on hours that could not help.

Neither subject is the harder one in the abstract, which is the framing that causes the trouble. They test different capabilities. A pupil who is quick with software, reads instructions carefully and likes producing finished work is well suited to ICT. A pupil who enjoys puzzles and tolerates repeated failure while debugging is suited to Computer Science instead. The table below sets the two qualifications out side by side on the measures that actually matter when choosing a teacher and planning a budget for either one.

The practical paper, and the software question nobody prices

The 4IT1 practical component asks a candidate to work in genuine software and produce evidence of what they did. Schools install the packages, and the examination centre supplies and configures the environment for the paper itself, so there is no exam-day software cost to a family. The question that does cost something is home practice, and it is more specific than most providers admit. Practical marks come from doing, not from reading, and a candidate who cannot practise between lessons will not build speed.

For most task areas the answer is reassuring. Word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, image editing and web authoring can all be practised adequately in free software. Function names and menu positions differ slightly between suites, which is a small nuisance rather than a real obstacle, and it is worth confirming with the department which package and version the school uses so the differences are known rather than discovered. Nothing here requires a purchase.

Databases are the exception and it is a hard one. The database package Dubai schools most commonly teach runs on Windows and is not available for macOS, so a household whose only machine is a Mac has no straightforward way to practise that task area at home. The honest options are a Windows machine, access to a school computer room, or accepting that database practice happens in lesson time. Any provider who tells a Mac household that this is not a problem has not checked. The table lists each task area with its real home-practice position.

What 4IT1 support costs in Dubai, by what you are buying

Dubai providers price by the hour, by the month and by the group, and comparing across those three units is where families lose track. The figures below are published market rates, described by what is being bought rather than by brand, each with the month it was checked. Three of the six pages currently ranking for searches like this one publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars, which is a currency no Dubai family pays a tutor in.

Divide before you judge. A monthly online block advertised at AED 799 for eight sessions works out near AED 100 an hour, which sits below the qualified-teacher band and tells you something useful about who is likely to be teaching. A monthly in-home block at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits is roughly AED 200 to 225 an hour with travel inside it. Neither figure is dishonest; they are simply not comparable until they are reduced to the same unit.

IB Gram does not publish an ICT rate card here. The hours a candidate needs depend on which component is weak, and for 4IT1 that question has an unusually wide answer: a practical-only problem can be short work, while a candidate weak on both components is a longer block. A figure follows a free trial lesson, one per family, booked without any card details. The table below is what any quote should be measured against, including the one we give you.

What moves the number on an ICT quote in this emirate

Which component is weak is the first and largest driver, and it is specific to ICT. A candidate losing marks only on the practical paper often needs a short block, because practical marks respond to drilling a brief rather than to building understanding. A candidate whose written answers are vague needs a different and usually longer kind of work, because answer shape changes slowly. A provider who quotes before establishing which of those applies is quoting a package, not a plan.

Classroom provision is the second. ICT cohorts in Dubai are generally larger than Computer Science cohorts, which means the subject is usually taught by someone who teaches it regularly rather than by a stretched specialist covering four year groups. Teaching quality is therefore less often the gap. What a large group cannot do is notice that one candidate consistently ignores part of a brief, and that is the fault most private sessions are actually bought to fix.

The remaining drivers are the familiar ones, and they are worth asking about directly. Weeks remaining before the series, because availability tightens and specialists book out first. Delivery format, because a visiting tutor's drive sits inside the rate whatever the invoice says. Session length, since ninety minutes often carries a slightly lower hourly figure than sixty. Commitment length, because pre-paid blocks are usually discounted. And whether a sibling is taking the same subject at the same point, which occasionally supports a shared rate.

05

Where the written 4IT1 paper loses marks

The theory half of 4IT1 looks easy and marks badly. Candidates read about storage, networks, security and the uses of ICT in organisations, find all of it comprehensible, then score well below what they know. The cause is almost always answer shape rather than knowledge. Questions are set in a scenario, and the mark scheme credits answers that connect to that scenario specifically. A correct general statement about cloud storage earns little when the question asked about a particular organisation's problem.

Three failure patterns account for most of the loss. The first is describing a device or a service instead of saying why it suits the stated situation. The second is naming a safeguard without linking it to the threat in the question, which is the connection being tested. The third is listing concerns under the legal, ethical and environmental topics rather than stating a consequence and attributing it to a cause. All three are habits, and habits respond to marking and rewriting rather than to further reading.

The remedy is unglamorous and reliable. Write one answer, mark it against the published criteria, identify the required element that is missing, rewrite it, then do the same thing on a different topic. Three cycles changes how a candidate writes everywhere, because the fix is structural rather than topical. It is also the cheapest work in the subject: written technique needs no software, no device and no environment matching, which makes it the one part of 4IT1 support that is genuinely easy to buy.

06

4IT1 costs in context for a Dubai household

Tutoring sits alongside fees, transport and everything else, and the useful comparison is annual rather than hourly. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a household whose school line is fixed, the tutoring decision is the discretionary one, which is exactly why it deserves honest arithmetic rather than a monthly figure with the hours hidden.

Examination entry fees are a separate line and are never inside a tutor's rate. Where a school enters a candidate, the fee is set by the school as the Pearson centre and appears on the school invoice. Where a family enters a private candidate, the centre bills them directly and the amount varies, so collect written quotes. For 4IT1 there is an extra constraint: the centre must be able to run the practical component, which is a narrower requirement than for a written-only subject and worth confirming before anything else is arranged.

The device question belongs in this table too, because it is the one real equipment cost in the subject and it only applies to some households. A family with a Windows machine already has what database practice needs. A family with only a Mac is choosing between buying a machine, using a school computer room, or accepting that database work happens in lessons. Stating that plainly is more useful than pretending the subject costs nothing to practise.

Permits, centres and who is allowed to charge you in Dubai

A parent comparing ICT tutors on price should also compare them on legality, and in the UAE that is a single question with a documented answer. An individual giving paid private lessons requires a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the MoHRE service listing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the ministry's smart app, website or e-services system.

Since it costs nothing and takes two working days, a tutor without one has no price-based excuse, and anyone offering private tutoring without the permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. What the permit does not tell you is anything about teaching quality. Eligible applicants run from teachers registered in government or private schools through to unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Treat the permit as a legality check and ask about subject experience separately.

Centres are regulated differently again, which matters for 4IT1 because the practical component needs one. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute: initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. No provider should describe itself as approved by KHDA unless it holds that permit. And a centre accepting a private candidate for the practical paper must be able to supply the examination environment, which is a question to ask before paying any entry fee.

08

Teaching a practical subject over live video

Every 4IT1 session for a Dubai family runs online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, and home visiting is a service offered only in India. For a practical subject that deserves a proper explanation rather than an assertion, because the obvious objection is that software work needs someone sitting beside the candidate.

In practice the opposite holds. The candidate shares their screen and works in their own installation, with their own file structure and their own menu layout, which is exactly the environment their practice will happen in. The teacher sees every click at full size and can stop the candidate at the point where the brief was misread rather than after the task is finished and the evidence is wrong. Two people at one laptop see less, not more, and the teacher ends up taking the mouse, which teaches nothing.

The format also decides who is available. A Dubai family hiring locally chooses from people who can be in their community on a weekday afternoon. Online, they choose from ICT specialists across time zones that overlap with Gulf Standard Time evenings. Where no specialist is free at the level required, we say so before a payment rather than substituting a generalist you would notice three weeks in. For the database task area we will also say plainly whether a Mac household can practise at home, because that answer changes what the sessions should cover.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

For 4IT1 the practical question in each Dubai community is device access and a quiet hour, since the teaching itself arrives over video. The notes below reflect what actually varies between areas.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment households where a shared family laptop is common. Practical practice needs a machine the candidate can keep files on and return to, which matters more here than in villa communities with a study.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

Central and well served by schools, so ICT groups are usually full and classroom provision is sound. Requests from this cluster are mostly practical technique and evidence discipline rather than theory from scratch.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Villa communities with a notable private-candidate presence. A private 4IT1 candidate must find a centre that can run the practical component, which is a narrower requirement than a written-only subject and worth checking early.

Arabian Ranches and Dubai Hills Estate

Long internal drives that put a visiting tutor's travel firmly inside the rate. Online sessions remove it, and a study at home means practical practice is usually easy to arrange here.

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim

Established British-curriculum schools with full option blocks. ICT cohorts tend to be large, so individual practical faults can go unnoticed until a mock paper exposes them.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Short journeys home mean an earlier session is workable, which matters for a practical subject because software tasks need concentration rather than recall. Fatigue costs more marks here than in a theory lesson.

Deira, Al Nahda and Al Qusais

Mixed-curriculum schools with large applied-computing groups. Families here often ask about the vocational route after 16, since not every nearby campus runs one at sixth-form level.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Barsha, Jumeirah and Al Safa

Established British-curriculum campuses with large ICT cohorts and solid classroom provision. Students we support from this cluster typically arrive with the theory broadly in place and practical marks held back by evidence discipline rather than by capability.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Safa British School
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Horizon English School

Mirdif, Al Qusais and Dubai Silicon Oasis

Mixed-curriculum schools with strong applied-computing uptake and a notable number of private candidates. Students we support here include families who must find a centre able to run the practical component, which narrows the choice considerably.

  • Star International School Mirdif
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis
  • The Indian High School Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us which component is weak

Send a marked written paper and, if there is one, a practical task the candidate produced. The two halves of 4IT1 fail differently and cost different amounts to fix, so this is the single most useful thing you can provide before anyone quotes a figure.

  2. 02

    Check the software position

Tell us which packages and versions the school uses and what the household runs at home, including whether there is a Windows machine. That determines whether database practice between lessons is possible and therefore what the sessions should prioritise.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, one per family

A full session with a teacher who has seen the work, booked without card details and carrying no obligation. The candidate works in the software during it rather than watching. A written note follows the same day with what the teaching found and how many sessions it suggests.

  4. 04

A quote with the hours shown

The figure arrives as hours multiplied by a rate, with the hour count justified by the component split rather than by a package length. The market bands on this page are the comparison. If the hours look wrong to you, that is a conversation to have before paying.

  5. 05

    Review before the entry deadline

Six to eight weeks ahead of the series, read the notes and the component marks and decide whether to continue, change the split or stop. Families told clearly what to practise often finish the last weeks themselves, and should be told so plainly.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The software question gets a straight answer

Most 4IT1 task areas can be practised in free software. Database work usually cannot on a Mac, because the package Dubai schools teach has no macOS version. Saying that costs us nothing and saves a family from buying hours that assume practice which is not actually possible.

ICT and Computer Science kept separate

The two are routinely described as versions of one subject and they are not. A programming specialist hired for a 4IT1 candidate teaches well and irrelevantly. Teachers matched here work on ICT, and we will tell you if the entry code you quote points the other way.

Rates published, with the month on them

Every AED figure here is a published market rate described by what is being bought rather than by brand, each carrying the month it was checked. Half this search's ranking pages publish no price at all and two quote in a currency Dubai parents do not transact in.

Hours justified by the component split

A practical-only problem is short work. A vague written style is slower. A quote states which applies and why, so you can argue with the hours instead of only with the rate. A package length chosen in advance of seeing the work is not a plan.

Teaching and feedback, never produced work

A tutor explains, questions, reviews and gives feedback on tasks the candidate completed. No practical output is produced for a student to submit, at this level or on the vocational courses that follow, where assessed units are the student's own work.

Delivery stated in the body copy

Lessons for Dubai families run online over live video. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE and operates no office, centre or branch here. The search phrase is targeted because parents type it, and then answered rather than quietly redefined later.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an Edexcel IGCSE ICT 4IT1 tutor cost per hour in Dubai?+

Published Dubai market rates in October 2026 put qualified one-to-one teaching online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and subject specialists in international qualifications at AED 200 to 450 and above. Budget platforms advertise from the mid-forties and a premium tier marketed on examiner background reaches AED 650. Visiting in-home tutors are advertised at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate. Those are market figures rather than an IB Gram price list. Our figure follows a free trial lesson, because the hours needed depend on which component is actually weak.

Is Pearson 4IT1 ICT the same subject as 4CP0 Computer Science?+

No, and treating them as versions of one subject is the most expensive misunderstanding available here. 4IT1 assesses whether a candidate can use software to accomplish stated tasks and explain the role of ICT in organisations. 4CP0 assesses whether they can write and debug programs. The practical halves have nothing in common, so a programming specialist hired for an ICT candidate will teach well and irrelevantly. Confirm the entry code in writing with your school's exams officer before booking anyone, because the code determines which kind of teacher is useful.

Do we need to buy software for 4IT1 practice at home?+

Mostly no. Word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, image editing and web authoring can all be practised in free office and media software, with only small differences in function names and menu positions. The exception is database work. The package Dubai schools most commonly teach runs on Windows and has no macOS version, so a Mac-only household cannot practise that task area at home without a Windows machine or access to a school computer room. Any provider who says that is not an issue has not checked it.

What happens in the 4IT1 practical examination, and who provides the software?+

The examination centre provides and configures the environment, so there is nothing for a family to buy or install for the paper itself. Candidates complete tasks in real software to a stated brief and produce the evidence of having done so. Two things are worth confirming with the school well in advance: which packages and which versions are installed in the room where the paper is sat, and whether the practice setup at home resembles them. An unfamiliar menu layout costs minutes in a timed practical paper.

Why does my child understand ICT theory and still lose marks on the written paper?+

Because the written component is marked on answer shape rather than general understanding. Questions are set in a scenario and the mark scheme credits answers that connect to that scenario specifically. Describing a device instead of saying why it suits the stated situation earns little. Naming a safeguard without linking it to the threat in the question earns less. Listing concerns instead of stating a consequence and its cause earns least. The fix is to write an answer, mark it against the published criteria, find the missing element and rewrite it.

Which 4IT1 practical task area do Dubai candidates practise least?+

Databases, and the reason is usually access rather than attitude. The package schools teach is Windows-only in most cases, so households with Mac or tablet devices have no easy way to practise between lessons. The effect shows directly in practical marks, since database tasks reward familiarity with building a table structure, running queries against stated criteria and producing a readable report. Where home practice is genuinely impossible, the session plan should allocate more time to that area and the family should know that is why.

How many hours of 4IT1 support does a Dubai candidate usually need?+

It depends almost entirely on which component is weak, and the spread is wide. A candidate losing marks only on practical tasks often needs six to eight sessions, because practical marks respond to drilling a brief rather than to building understanding. A candidate whose written answers are consistently vague needs longer, since answer shape changes slowly. One weak on both usually needs a twelve-week block. Any provider quoting an hour count before seeing a marked paper and a practical task is quoting a package rather than a plan.

Is a monthly ICT package better value than paying per hour in Dubai?+

Reduce both to an hourly figure before deciding. A monthly online block advertised at AED 799 for eight sessions is near AED 100 an hour, below the qualified-teacher band, which tells you something about who is likely to be teaching. A monthly in-home block at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour visits is roughly AED 200 to 225 an hour with travel inside it. Neither is dishonest, but they are not comparable until expressed in the same unit, and most comparisons in this market never do that step.

Can a private candidate sit the 4IT1 practical paper in Dubai?+

Only at a centre able to run the practical component, which is a narrower requirement than for a written-only subject. Confirm that capability before paying any entry fee, because a centre that accepts external candidates for written papers may not be equipped for the practical one. Entry fees for private candidates are set by the centre and vary, so collect two or three written quotes. The family also carries the deadlines, the identity documents and the timetable, since no school is chasing them on your behalf.

Does ICT at 16 close off A Level Computer Science?+

It makes it a harder step rather than an impossible one. A Level Computer Science assumes programming that the ICT course does not teach, including a substantial programmed project, so a candidate arriving from ICT starts behind. The natural routes from 4IT1 are vocational and applied: BTEC qualifications in IT or business, applied information technology courses where a school offers them, and business-facing paths where software competence is directly useful. Check which post-16 computing courses actually ran at the school last year rather than which appear in the prospectus.

What should I ask the school before hiring an ICT tutor?+

Four things, all free. The specification code and the series your child is entered for, confirmed in writing by the exams officer. The component marks from the most recent mock rather than the overall grade, because the breakdown identifies the fix. Which software packages and versions the practical component is taught and examined in. And whether the department thinks the gap is practical technique or written answers. With those four answers a quote becomes arithmetic instead of a guess.

Are 4IT1 lessons for Dubai families taught online or at a Dubai address?+

Online, one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE, and home visiting is a service offered only in India. For a practical subject this works better than it sounds. The candidate shares their own screen and works in their own installation, which is where their practice will happen anyway, and the teacher sees every click at full size. Two people at one laptop see less, and the adult usually ends up taking the mouse, which teaches nothing at all.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit before teaching ICT for money?+

Yes. An individual giving paid private lessons requires a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. The MoHRE service listing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Note what it does not tell you: eligible applicants include university students and school students aged 15 to 18, so it confirms legality rather than teaching quality.

Can a tutor produce the practical work for my child to submit?+

No, and nobody here will. A tutor explains, questions, reviews and gives feedback on tasks the candidate completed themselves. 4IT1 carries no coursework and the practical component is sat under examination conditions, so the exposure at this level is low. It rises on the vocational courses that follow, where assessed units are produced over time and must be the student's own work. Any provider offering to supply finished output for submission is offering malpractice, and the consequence of that falls on the student rather than on them.

How does the Dubai school fee freeze affect a tutoring budget?+

It fixes the largest education line for the year, which changes how the discretionary one should be judged. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not increase for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For a household whose fees are flat, a short practical-only block at the qualified band, which is roughly AED 900 to 2,400 for six to eight sessions, is a smaller decision than it looks in isolation. The arithmetic is worth doing annually rather than monthly.

Send a marked written paper and a practical task your child produced, plus the specification code and the series. Tell us which software the school uses and whether there is a Windows machine at home, because that decides whether database practice between lessons is possible. A teacher who works on Pearson Edexcel International GCSE ICT reads both, then takes a free trial lesson with no card details and no obligation, one per family. The quote that follows states its hours and the reason for them. Lessons run online over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.
