Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science 4CP0 Home Tutor in Dubai

Families looking for an Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science 4CP0 home tutor in Dubai usually want two things answered: what it costs, and whether somebody has to be in the room. The Dubai market charges roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour for a visiting tutor and AED 150 to 300 for qualified teaching online, as advertised in October 2026. IB Gram teaches 4CP0 online over live video and makes no home visits in the UAE, which for a coding subject costs you nothing.

  • Dubai market AED bands printed here with the month they were checked
  • Hours-to-fix estimates per topic, so a quote can be sanity-checked
  • Python and the editors schools use are free; no software cost at all
  • First lesson free, one per family, with no card details required

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The real cost of 4CP0 support is hours, not the hourly rate

Every tutoring comparison in this market argues about the hourly figure, which is the less important half of the sum. A candidate who needs four sessions at AED 300 has spent less than one who needs twenty at AED 150, and the second family will have spent four months discovering it. So this page prices hours as well as rates: how many sessions a given problem usually takes, which problems are quick, and which are genuinely a term of work. That is the arithmetic a quote should be judged against.

The rates themselves are not secret, they are just rarely published. Across the Dubai market in October 2026, budget online platforms advertise from the mid-forties an hour, qualified subject teaching online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, visiting in-home tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate, subject specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, and a premium tier marketed on examiner background reaching AED 650. Monthly packages run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Computing has one pricing feature that other subjects do not. The software is free. Python costs nothing, the editors most Dubai schools use cost nothing, and the onscreen component is sat in an environment the examination centre provides. There is no equipment to buy beyond a keyboard, a usable screen and a quiet desk. Compare that with a science subject requiring practical access, and the only real cost in a 4CP0 plan is teaching time. That makes the hours question decisive rather than incidental.

What moves the number in Dubai specifically is the shape of computing departments here. The emirate has 227 private schools serving 387,441 pupils across 17 curricula, and growth is fast: six new schools opened in 2025-26, enrolment rose six per cent, and 2026-27 adds seven more schools and 16,846 places. New campuses open with lean departments, so one computing specialist frequently covers several year groups. The pool of people in Dubai who can teach the onscreen component properly is therefore small, and small pools price upward near an examination series.

IB Gram publishes no 4CP0 price list on this page, and the reason is the same arithmetic. The figure depends on how many hours the candidate actually needs, which depends on evidence nobody has until a teacher has read a program the student wrote themselves. So a quote follows a free trial lesson, one per family, bookable without any card details. The published market bands on this page are what you should measure that quote against, and the hours table further down is what you should measure the proposed plan against. Both are printed here precisely so that you can argue with us.

At a glance

  • Qualified online subject teaching in Dubai: roughly AED 150-300 an hour, checked October 2026.
  • Visiting in-home tutors: roughly AED 180-500 an hour with travel inside the rate.
  • Python and the editors schools commonly use carry no licence cost whatsoever.
  • Hours needed, not the hourly figure, is what decides the total spend on 4CP0.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The cost of 4CP0 support changes sharply depending on when a family starts. The three entry points below carry different hour counts and therefore different totals, which is worth knowing before anyone compares hourly figures.

Year 10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Starting in the first year of the course

The cheapest point to start, measured per mark gained. A candidate beginning in Year 10 can build programming capability slowly, in short weekly sessions, which costs less per week and far less in total than compressing the same work into the spring of Year 11. Practical skill in particular needs calendar time rather than concentrated hours, because it is a habit rather than a body of knowledge.

Dubai schools differ in whether Key Stage 4 runs over two years or three, and a three-year model changes the budget considerably. Ask the department which model applies, then plan the spend across the real number of terms. Families who assume two years and discover three have usually under-bought early support and over-bought late support, which is the most expensive sequence available.

Year 11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Starting in the examination year

The most common starting point and the most variable in cost. A candidate who needs written technique only can often be served by six to eight sessions. One who cannot yet write a program from a stated problem needs a longer block, because the missing capability is constructive. The difference between those two cases is several thousand dirhams, and only reading the candidate's own code reveals which applies.

Availability in Dubai is the hidden cost here. Computing specialists are booked earliest in the weeks before a Pearson window, so a family starting in March for a summer series is choosing from whoever is left rather than from the whole pool. That is not a price rise exactly, but it has the same effect on what a given budget buys.

RetakeAfter results · Years 11-12

Re-entering for the next series

Two Pearson series a year make a retake genuinely viable, and the decision should be made on component marks rather than the overall grade. A candidate three marks short on one component is a short, cheap block of work. One evenly short across both components is a term. A fresh entry fee applies either way, and that fee sits with the school or the centre rather than with any tutor.

Timing is awkward in Dubai because summer results land during the long holiday, with June 2026 results reaching students on 20 August 2026, and November results arrive in January, as the November 2025 series results reached students on 22 January 2026. Having the component breakdown in hand lets a family decide calmly in a window when the school may be closed or mid-term.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Hours are the cost, so here is what the common 4CP0 problems usually take. These are planning figures from typical cases rather than promises, and a teacher who has read the candidate's own work will revise them in either direction.

Starting a program from a stated problem

Typically 3-4 sessions

The single most common presenting problem and one of the quicker ones to shift, because the missing piece is a planning sequence rather than knowledge. Read the problem, name the inputs, choose the structure, write the smallest working version, extend it.

Lists, loops and file handling in Python

Typically 4-6 sessions

Genuine content work rather than technique, so it takes real weeks. Each construct has to be written repeatedly against different problems before it becomes available under exam pressure. This is where a longer block earns its cost.

Debugging from a traceback

Typically 2-3 sessions

Reading an error message, locating the line it names and reasoning about the cause. Cheap to teach and disproportionately valuable, since it is the only diagnostic tool a candidate has in the exam room once something fails.

Test cases and validation habits

Typically 2 sessions

Trying a valid input, a boundary and something invalid before declaring a program finished. Two sessions of deliberate practice changes a habit that otherwise costs marks on every practical question for two years.

Trace tables done to the end

Typically 2 sessions

A strict column-by-column method, every cell filled, the trace carried through rather than abandoned once the answer looks obvious. Among the cheapest mark recoveries in the specification.

Binary, hexadecimal and overflow

Typically 1-2 sessions

Timed conversion drills in both directions plus binary addition and overflow. Skipped in revision because it looks trivial, then slow and inaccurate under time. One or two sessions usually settles it for good.

Written answers with mechanism and consequence

Typically 4-6 sessions

The slowest technique fix, because it changes how a candidate writes across every topic. Write, mark against the published criteria, find the missing required element, rewrite. Three cycles per topic, several topics.

Network and protocol vocabulary

Typically 2-3 sessions

Rewriting every device as a function rather than a name, which is what the mark scheme credits. Mechanical, repetitive and reliable, and it carries over into the questions about security and performance.

Threat-to-defence pairing in cybersecurity

Typically 1-2 sessions

Candidates name a defence without linking it to the threat in the question. Practising the link on past questions is quick work and recovers marks that were already within reach of what the candidate knew.

Logic gates and truth tables

Typically 1 session

Procedural and reliable once the method is fixed, which makes it a sensible first session for a candidate who needs an early win before the harder written topics are tackled.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements, three very different totals. The cheapest one is often enough, and a provider who does not offer you the cheapest option first is pricing their revenue rather than your problem.

Two-session diagnostic, then nothing

The lowest-cost arrangement available and the right one more often than the market admits. A teacher reads a program the candidate wrote, sets a fresh problem to confirm where the constructive step breaks, and hands back a written plan naming what to practise and in what order. Plenty of families take that plan and work it themselves.

  • Two paid hours at most, plus the free trial
  • Written plan in priority order, yours to keep
  • Honest finding if the problem is timetable rather than capability
  • No commitment to continue attached

Weekly block costed in advance

A defined number of weeks with the hours and the total stated at the start, so there is no open-ended arrangement running quietly into a second term. The number of weeks comes from the hours table on this page, adjusted to what the teacher found in the candidate's own code rather than to a standard package length.

  • Week count and total agreed before the first paid session
  • Timed work every week, written note the same day
  • Review at the midpoint with the option to stop
  • Component marks reported rather than a single score

Pre-series conversion block

Six to ten weeks before a Pearson window, longer sessions rather than more of them, splitting time between the two components by where marks are actually being lost. Costs more per week and less in total than a full year, and it is the right purchase for a candidate whose knowledge is sound and whose exam performance is not.

  • Longer sessions, fewer weeks, lower total
  • Practical paper sat in a realistic environment
  • Priority set by marks lost per hour of revision
  • A defined stop point before the exam day

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a 4CP0 home tutor costs in Dubai, by who you would be hiring

The Dubai market has clear tiers and they are visible in the advertised rates, even though most providers avoid printing a figure. At the bottom, budget platforms and recent school leavers advertise from the mid-forties an hour. In the middle, qualified subject teachers working online sit at roughly AED 150 to 300. Visiting in-home tutors are advertised at roughly AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate, subject specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, and a premium tier marketed on examiner background reaches AED 650.

For computing the tier matters more than it does in some subjects, because what distinguishes the tiers is whether anyone watches the candidate type. A cheap session is usually a walkthrough of a finished example program, which is pleasant, understandable and almost useless for building the constructive skill the onscreen component tests. A session at the qualified tier sets a problem, lets the candidate write, and intervenes at the point of error. Those are different products at any price.

IB Gram does not publish a rate card here. The total depends on hours, the hours depend on evidence, and the evidence is a program the candidate wrote. A figure arrives after a free trial lesson, one per family, booked without card details, and it arrives with its reasoning attached. The table below sets out the market tiers so that any quote, ours included, can be placed against something real rather than against a competitor's silence.

02

Why coding tuition travels badly, and what the in-home premium pays for

A visiting tutor in Dubai is selling an hour plus a journey, and the journey is inside the rate whether the invoice itemises it or not. Forty minutes each way to Arabian Ranches or Dubai Hills at five in the afternoon is more than an hour of a working day gone, and nobody absorbs that for nothing. That is the honest explanation for the gap between AED 180 to 500 in-home and AED 150 to 300 online at a comparable level of teacher, and it has nothing to do with quality.

For computing there is a second cost that is easier to miss. Two people leaning at one laptop is a worse teaching setup than two full-size screens showing the same editor. The teacher cannot comfortably read the traceback, the candidate cannot comfortably type, and the session drifts towards demonstration because demonstrating is physically easier than supervising. The format quietly changes what gets taught, which is a real loss dressed up as a convenience.

The third factor is the pool. A Dubai family hiring in-home is choosing from people who can reach their community on a weekday afternoon. Computing departments in this emirate are small and growing fast, so that local pool is thin to begin with. The same family online is choosing from computing specialists across time zones that overlap with Gulf Standard Time evenings. The table puts both options against the measures that actually differ for a programming lesson.

03

The technical setup for 4CP0, and why it costs nothing

Computing is unusual among examined subjects in having no equipment bill. Python is free. The editors most Dubai schools use for teaching are free. The onscreen component is sat in an environment the examination centre provides, so nothing has to be licensed, subscribed to or bought for the exam itself. A provider who suggests otherwise, or who bundles software into a package price, is charging for something that is available at no cost.

What does matter is matching. Confirm with the school which Python version and which editor the onscreen paper runs in, then practise in something close to it. An unfamiliar interface costs minutes in a timed practical paper, and minutes are the scarcest resource in that room. This is a free adjustment that families routinely skip, and it is worth more than an extra paid session in the final fortnight.

The hardware requirements are modest but real, and they are worth checking before anyone buys extra tuition hours. A physical keyboard rather than a tablet, because touchscreen typing measurably slows timed work and the onscreen component is typed from start to finish. A screen big enough to hold a problem statement and a code editor at the same time, since switching between windows wastes seconds a candidate will want back. A quiet desk for an uninterrupted hour. That is the whole list, and nothing on it needs replacing annually. Families in apartment communities such as Dubai Marina or JLT routinely find the quiet hour harder to arrange than any piece of the equipment, and it affects the quality of preparation more than a faster machine ever would.

04

Hours against starting point: budgeting a 4CP0 block honestly

A quote for 4CP0 support is really a claim about how many hours a candidate needs, and that claim should be visible. The table below pairs the common starting points with the weeks and hours they usually take, then prices each one at the two tiers a Dubai family is realistically choosing between: qualified teaching at AED 150 to 300 an hour, and subject specialist at AED 200 to 450. The figures are arithmetic on those published bands rather than our prices.

Read it as a range rather than a prediction. A candidate who can already write programs and is losing marks on written precision sits at the cheap end, because technique fixes faster than capability. A candidate who has not yet built text-based programming at all sits at the expensive end, and compressing that work into the weeks before a series makes it more expensive rather than less, because practical skill needs calendar time to settle.

The point of publishing this is comparison. If a provider proposes thirty sessions for a candidate whose only problem is written vocabulary, the hours are wrong even if the hourly rate is attractive. If a provider proposes six sessions for a candidate who cannot start a program, the total is low and the plan will fail. Asking which row of this table your child is in, and why, is a reasonable question and a good test of whether anyone has actually looked at their work.

05

The costs around a 4CP0 entry that nobody quotes

Tutoring is one line in a longer bill, and the other lines are the ones families meet by surprise. Examination entry fees are the largest. Where a school enters a candidate, the fee appears on the school invoice and is set by the school as the Pearson centre. Where a family enters a private candidate, the examination centre bills them directly and the amount varies by centre, so collect two or three written quotes and confirm that the centre is running the series you need.

A retake carries a fresh entry fee each series, which is worth weighing against the component marks before committing. Two Pearson series a year make a retake practical, but a candidate evenly short across both components is buying a term of work plus a fee, while one three marks short on a single component is buying a short block plus a fee. The breakdown is free and arrives with the results.

Then there is VAT, which is the line most often left vague. Ask every provider whether the quoted figure includes it and get the answer in writing, because the difference across a year of weekly sessions is material. This page will not state how UAE VAT law treats tuition fees in general: that is a Federal Tax Authority question, the answer turns on the provider's registration and activity, and a tutoring site is not a source for tax advice. The table lists each line with who sets it.

06

Who may legally charge you for a computing lesson in Dubai

Paid private tuition in the UAE runs through a permit system, and a parent can check it in one question. Individuals giving private lessons require a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. The MoHRE service listing for it shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website or e-services system.

Because the permit is free and quick, there is no cost argument for a tutor not holding one, and anyone offering private tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. The permit is not a quality mark, though. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Ask about the permit and the subject record as two separate questions.

Two related points matter for anyone comparing providers on price. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai is regulated differently from an individual tutor and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, so no provider should describe itself as approved by KHDA without holding one. And in Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of pupils enrolled at their own school. A cheap rate offered by your child's own class teacher is not a bargain, it is a problem.

07

Group classes for programming, and when the saving is actually real

Tuition centre group classes of two to four pupils are advertised in this market at roughly AED 90 to 160 per pupil per hour, a genuine saving against one-to-one. For some subjects and some candidates that is the sensible purchase. For the practical half of 4CP0 it usually is not, and it is worth understanding why rather than taking anyone's word for it.

Programming errors are individual and they happen in the moment. The value of a session is someone noticing that this particular candidate's loop condition inverts, right now, at the keystroke, and stopping them before the habit sets. In a group of four, three pupils wait while one error is addressed, and the teacher necessarily shifts towards demonstrating on a shared screen because that is the only way to use an hour with four people in it. Demonstration is exactly the mode that fails to build constructive skill, so the saving is real and the thing you were buying has quietly gone.

The written component is a different matter. Theory technique, trace tables, vocabulary precision and marking against published criteria all work reasonably in a small group, because the errors are common rather than individual. A sensible split for a budget-conscious Dubai family is therefore group work for the written component, if a good local class exists, and one-to-one for the practical. That combination costs less than full one-to-one and loses nothing that matters, which is a better answer than defending the expensive option.

08

How the lesson runs, and what IB Gram does not sell in the UAE

Every 4CP0 session for a Dubai family happens online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, and home visiting is a service offered only in India. That is stated on every country page on this site and it is stated here, in the body rather than the footer, because a page that targets this search phrase and then redefines it quietly has wasted your time.

In practice the session looks like this. A shared editor is open on both screens. The teacher sets a problem and says nothing while the candidate plans it, then watches the typing. When an error appears it is read aloud and interpreted rather than fixed silently, because a candidate who cannot read a traceback has no diagnostic tool in the exam. The hour ends with a working program the candidate wrote, and a short written note sent the same day.

What the format changes is who is available to teach. A Dubai family hiring locally is choosing from a thin pool of people who can be in their community on a weekday afternoon. Online, the pool is computing specialists in overlapping time zones. Where no specialist is free at the level needed, we say so rather than substituting someone who is not, and we say it before a payment rather than in week three. That disclosure costs us bookings and is worth more than the bookings.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Area matters to a 4CP0 budget mostly through scheduling and through what an in-home tutor would have had to drive. Since teaching here runs over video, the notes below are about timing and the local supply of computing specialists.

Arabian Ranches, The Springs and Dubai Hills Estate

The communities where an in-home premium is largest, because the drive in and out absorbs most of an hour. Online sessions recover that time and remove it from the rate entirely, which is the clearest saving in the emirate.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

Central, so in-home rates here sit lower in the band, but the local computing pool is still small. The saving from going online is less about travel and more about reaching a specialist rather than a generalist.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment living, which keeps travel costs down for visiting tutors but makes a quiet desk with a proper keyboard the real constraint. Timed practical practice on a shared laptop in a living room produces unreliable preparation.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Villa communities with a notable private-candidate population, so families here more often carry the centre entry fee directly. That is a separate line from tutoring and worth quoting from two or three centres.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Short journeys and several campuses, so earlier sessions are feasible and a candidate can sit a timed practical before fatigue. Cheaper in effect, because the same hour produces better work.

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Umm Suqeim

Established schools with stronger computing provision, so the typical request is written technique rather than programming from scratch. That is a shorter block and therefore a smaller total than families expect.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

Households that prefer sessions after 19:00 Gulf Standard Time. Later slots overlap with more working days elsewhere, widening the specialist pool and easing the price pressure that scarcity creates near a series.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai Hills, Arabian Ranches and Motor City

Newer and expanding campuses where departments are lean and the drive in is long. Students we support from this cluster are the clearest example of the in-home travel premium, since a visiting tutor is billing for a journey that online delivery removes.

  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills

Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City and Mirdif

Established computing provision and short local journeys, so sessions start earlier and timed practical work gets done before the day has worn the candidate out. Students we support here include private candidates carrying their own centre fees.

  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • GEMS Modern Academy

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send a program your child wrote

However incomplete, and however badly it runs. A program is the only evidence that shows where the constructive step breaks down. Add a marked written paper if you have one, plus the school and the series. This is what turns a quote from a guess into arithmetic.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, one per family

A full session with a teacher who has already read the code, booked without card details and carrying no obligation. The candidate writes during it rather than watching. You receive a written note the same day naming what the teaching found and how many sessions it suggests.

  3. 03

A quote with the hours shown

The figure arrives as hours multiplied by a rate, with the reason for the hour count stated and the row of the table on this page it corresponds to. If you think the hours are wrong, that is a conversation worth having before anything is paid rather than after.

  4. 04

A costed block, not an open arrangement

A defined number of weeks with the total stated up front, a midpoint review, and the option to stop at it. Open-ended weekly billing that drifts into a second term is how families spend far more than they planned without anyone deciding to.

  5. 05

    Review on component marks

Before the entry deadline, read the notes and the marks and decide: continue, change the split, or finish. Stopping is a real option. A family told clearly what to practise can often run the last weeks themselves, and should be told that plainly.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Hours are priced, not just rates

Most comparisons argue about the hourly figure, which is the smaller half of the sum. This page publishes how many sessions each common 4CP0 problem usually takes, so any quote can be checked against the hours it assumes rather than only against a competitor's rate.

Market bands, with the month attached

Every AED figure here is a published market rate checked in October 2026 and described by provider model rather than brand. Three of the six pages ranking for this kind of search publish no price at all, and two quote in a currency Dubai families do not pay in.

The cheapest option is offered first

A two-session diagnostic plus the free trial is the lowest-cost arrangement available and is often enough. Families who take the written plan and work it themselves are a legitimate outcome. A provider who never mentions that option is pricing their revenue instead of your problem.

No software to buy, and we say so

Python and the editors Dubai schools commonly use are free, and the onscreen exam environment is provided by the centre. Nothing in a 4CP0 plan needs a licence, a subscription or a device upgrade beyond a keyboard and a quiet desk.

Availability stated honestly

Computing specialists in this market book out first before a Pearson series. Where nobody is free at the level needed, that is said before a payment rather than covered by a substitution. The disclosure costs bookings and is worth more than the bookings.

Lessons for Dubai families run online over live video. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE and operates no office, centre or branch here. The search phrase is targeted because parents type it, and then answered rather than quietly redefined.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much should a 4CP0 block cost in total, not per hour?+

Hours decide the total, so start there. A candidate whose only problem is written precision often needs six to eight sessions, which at the published Dubai bands of AED 150 to 300 an hour comes to roughly AED 900 to 2,400. A candidate who cannot yet write a program unaided usually needs eight to twelve sessions, and one weak on both components from Year 10 can need twenty-four to thirty. Those are arithmetic on market rates rather than our prices. Ask any provider which band your child sits in and why, because that answer is the quote.

Why is a visiting tutor in Dubai more expensive than the same teaching online?+

Because the journey is inside the rate whether or not the invoice shows it. Forty minutes each way to a community like Arabian Ranches or Dubai Hills at five in the afternoon costs more than an hour of a working day, and nobody absorbs that for free. The Dubai market advertises visiting tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for qualified teaching online as at October 2026. For a coding lesson the in-home format also gives a worse view of the editor, so you pay more for a weaker setup.

Do we have to buy software or a licence for 4CP0 practice?+

No. Python is free, the editors most Dubai schools use for teaching are free, and the onscreen examination environment is provided by the examination centre. Nothing in a 4CP0 plan requires a licence or a subscription. A provider who bundles software into a package price is charging for something available at no cost. What is worth doing, and costs nothing, is confirming with the school which Python version and which editor the onscreen paper runs in, then practising in something close to it so the interface does not eat exam minutes.

Is a cheap 4CP0 tutor at AED 60 an hour a false economy?+

Sometimes, and the test is what happens in the hour rather than the figure itself. At the budget tier a session is usually a walkthrough of a finished example program. That is understandable and almost useless for the onscreen component, which tests whether a candidate can produce code from a stated problem under time. If nobody watches your child type, the hour has not built the thing being examined. Twelve cheap sessions that do not change capability cost more than five that do, which is why hours and rate have to be judged together.

Does the quoted 4CP0 tutoring rate include VAT?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing before committing, because across a year of weekly sessions the difference is material. Some providers quote inclusive, others exclusive, and the gap is rarely explained. IB Gram states whether VAT applies to a given arrangement at the point of quoting, which is after the free trial lesson. This page deliberately does not state how UAE VAT law treats tuition fees in general: that is a Federal Tax Authority question, the answer depends on the provider's registration and activity, and no tutoring site should be your source for tax advice.

What does a 4CP0 examination entry cost, and is it part of the tutoring fee?+

It is never part of a tutor's rate. Where your child's school enters them, the fee is set by the school as the Pearson centre and appears on the school invoice. Where a family enters a private candidate, the examination centre bills them directly and the amount varies by centre, so collect two or three written quotes and confirm the centre is running the series you need. A retake carries a fresh entry fee each series, which is worth weighing against the component marks before deciding.

How many hours does it take to fix a child who cannot start a program?+

Typically three to four sessions, which surprises families who expect it to be the expensive problem. The missing piece is usually a planning sequence rather than knowledge: read the problem, name the inputs, choose the structure, write the smallest working version, then extend it. Once that sequence is in place a candidate who already understands loops and conditions can start work unaided. The expensive problem is different: a candidate still uncertain about lists and file handling needs real content weeks, usually eight to twelve, because that is capability rather than technique.

Is a group programming class in Dubai worth the lower per-pupil rate?+

For the written component, often yes. For the practical half, usually not. Group classes of two to four pupils are advertised at roughly AED 90 to 160 per pupil per hour, a real saving. But programming errors are individual and happen at the keystroke, and in a group of four the teacher has to shift towards demonstrating on a shared screen because that is the only way to use the hour. Demonstration does not build constructive skill. A sensible budget split is group work for theory technique and one-to-one for the coding.

Does starting 4CP0 support in Year 10 cost less than waiting for Year 11?+

Less per mark gained, yes, and usually less in total for a candidate with real practical gaps. Programming capability is a habit rather than a body of knowledge, so it needs calendar time to settle and cannot be compressed efficiently. Short weekly sessions across Year 10 cost less per week and build something that holds. Compressing the same work into the spring of Year 11 costs more, because availability tightens before a series and because rushed practical practice does not stick. A candidate needing written technique only is the exception and can start late cheaply.

What hardware does my child actually need at home for 4CP0?+

Three things and none of them expensive. A physical keyboard rather than a tablet, because the onscreen component is typed under time and touchscreen input measurably slows a candidate. A screen large enough to hold a problem statement and an editor side by side. And a quiet desk for an uninterrupted hour. In apartment communities such as the Marina or JLT the quiet hour is usually harder to arrange than the equipment, and it affects preparation quality more than any upgrade would.

How do I check that a Dubai tutor is permitted to teach my child for money?+

Ask directly whether they hold a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. The MoHRE service listing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time, so there is no cost reason to be without one. Operating without it exposes the tutor to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Treat it as a legality check rather than a quality check: eligible applicants include university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

Can my child's own school computing teacher tutor them privately?+

Avoid arranging it, even where it is offered cheaply. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to pupils enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct of its own. Beyond the rules, it is a poor arrangement on its own terms: the person marking your child's class work should not also be paid to prepare them for it. A cheap rate from inside the school is not a saving worth the conflict it creates.

Does IB Gram send a computing tutor to a villa or apartment in Dubai?+

No. There are no home visits anywhere in the UAE on this platform, and home visiting is a service offered only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. The market does sell visiting tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour as at October 2026 and that is a legitimate option elsewhere. For programming specifically the online setup is better rather than merely cheaper, because a full-size shared editor beats two people leaning at one laptop every time.

What happens if no 4CP0 specialist is free when we want to start?+

You get told, before a payment rather than in week three. Computing specialists in this market book out earliest in the weeks before a Pearson series, and the honest answer in that window is sometimes that nobody suitable is available at the level needed. Substituting a generalist who can cover the theory but not supervise code is how a family spends eight weeks discovering a mismatch. Where the gap is short, we will say when a slot opens. Where it is not, we will say that too, which costs bookings and keeps the page honest.

Can we buy only a diagnostic and then work on the plan ourselves?+

Yes, and for a fair number of families it is the right purchase. Two paid sessions on top of the free trial are enough for a teacher to read a program the candidate wrote, set a fresh problem to confirm where the constructive step breaks, and hand back a written plan naming what to practise and in what order. That plan is yours whether you continue or not. Parents who can supervise practice at home often need nothing more, and a provider who never offers this option is selling hours rather than solving a problem.

Price the hours, then the rate

Send a program your child wrote, however incomplete, with the school name and the series they are entered for. A teacher who works on Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science reads it and takes a free trial lesson, one per family, with no card details and no obligation. The quote that follows arrives as hours multiplied by a rate, with the hour count explained and a row of the table on this page attached to it. If the hours look wrong to you, say so before anything is paid. Lessons run online over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.
