IB Biology Tutor in Dubai

Most pages about hiring an IB biology tutor in Dubai start at the premium end. This one starts at the bottom, because a large share of biology problems are solved cheaply and a large share of biology budgets are spent as though they are not. Published rates in this emirate begin near AED 45 an hour and reach AED 650, and knowing which biology task belongs at which tier is worth more than any negotiation. Lessons run one-to-one on live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Priced from the cheapest tier up, with what each tier cannot do stated
  • Retrieval practice separated from criterion-referenced marking
  • Investigation feedback by criterion, six marks named against each
  • One free 30-minute trial lesson per family, no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Buy biology from the bottom of the market upwards

Biology is the best-supplied Diploma science in Dubai, which makes it the subject where the price range matters most. Published hourly rates in this emirate, read in October 2026, run from AED 33-52 at Tutopiya and AED 45-65 at EdFlik at the budget end, through AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor online with Unitors listing IB from AED 200, up to AED 270 at TutorChase for specialist work, AED 200-450 and above for IB and IGCSE specialists per the Bestimate survey, and AED 650 for a premium named tutor at BartyED. That is a twentyfold spread for a subject taught from one guide.

The spread is only irrational if every biology problem is the same problem. They are not. A student who cannot recall the stages of a process needs retrieval practice, which is a low-skill, high-frequency task that works perfectly well at the bottom of the market or with no tutor at all. A student whose investigation research question cannot generate quantitative data needs someone who can read it against four assessment criteria, and that is not available at AED 45 an hour. Matching the task to the tier is the whole of cost control in this subject, and it is a judgement nobody in this market has an incentive to help a parent make.

Biology also has a specific trap that makes families overspend. The content volume is large, students feel behind, and the instinctive response is to buy more hours. More hours of explanation does not fix a volume problem; spaced retrieval does, and spaced retrieval is something a student largely does to themselves. The marks that actually need a specialist are concentrated in two places: command-term discipline on Paper 2, which is 44 per cent of the grade, and the investigation, which is 20 per cent.

That leaves a surprisingly cheap plan available to a Dubai family who sequences it properly. Retrieval practice at the bottom tier or self-directed. Command-term marking at the qualified tier for a limited block, because the fix is a habit change measurable within weeks rather than a term of teaching. Investigation coaching at the qualified tier, block-booked at three or four sessions against the school's deadlines. Total hours are modest and most of them sit mid-band rather than at the top.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For a cost-led plan the arithmetic is straightforward: the Bestimate survey puts qualified in-home one-to-one in Dubai at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for comparable work online. The premium buys a drive. In a well-supplied subject like biology, it buys nothing else.

At a glance

  • Published Dubai rates span roughly AED 33 to AED 650 for one subject guide
  • Retrieval practice belongs at the bottom tier or at no cost at all
  • Command-term marking and investigation work are what the mid band is for
  • More hours of explanation does not solve a content-volume problem
  • Gulf Standard Time scheduling, post-Iftar slots through Ramadan
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Biology reaches a Dubai Diploma classroom from several starting points, and what a student arrives with changes which tier of support they need rather than how many hours.

MYPAges 14-16 · MYP 4-5

MYP Sciences, Years 4 and 5

Criterion-assessed science covering knowledge, inquiry and design, processing and evaluating, and reflection. Students arrive well prepared for the Diploma investigation and usually unpractised at the volume of recall Diploma biology assumes, because MYP assessment rewards process over coverage.

In Dubai's full-continuum IB World Schools this route feeds straight into Diploma biology. The characteristic first-term problem is coverage rather than comprehension, which means the cheapest tier of support is often the correct one for the first few months.

IGCSEAges 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE Biology into Diploma biology

Cambridge 0610 or Edexcel 4BI1 leaves a student practised at structured written questions and at command-term compliance. What transfers less well is independent experimental design, since IGCSE practical questions supply the method rather than asking for one to be constructed.

British-curriculum schools dominate Dubai enrolment, so many Diploma biologists arrive from IGCSE. They are frequently the group that needs the fewest hours, because the technique is already there and only the content volume and the investigation are new.

SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Biology Standard Level

Two written papers plus the internally assessed investigation at 20 per cent. Paper 1 combines multiple-choice with a data-based section; Paper 2 is extended response and carries the largest weighting. Accepted by a range of health, environmental and social-science routes, and frequently chosen alongside two other sciences.

Standard Level biology is the most commonly requested science in this emirate, which means supply is good and rates sit lower than the equivalent physics request. A family shopping for Standard Level biology has genuine choice, which is not true at Higher Level physics.

HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Biology Higher Level

The same structure with substantially more content and longer papers. Expected or preferred by many medicine, dentistry, veterinary, biomedical and life-science routes. The additional content is largely more of the same kind of material, which makes Higher Level biology a volume challenge above all else.

Higher Level biology demand in Dubai concentrates among students targeting medicine, and so does Higher Level chemistry demand. Families often buy both at the specialist tier when only one of them needs it, which is one of the most common overspends in this market.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Biology support divides into tasks rather than topics, and the tasks have very different prices. These are the units a plan is built from, with the tier each one genuinely requires.

Molecular biology and biochemistry

SL and HL, extended at HL

Water, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes and metabolism. Heavy on precise terminology, which makes it a retrieval problem first. The marks that need a specialist are in enzyme-kinetics data questions rather than in the recall itself.

Cells and cell processes

SL and HL, extended at HL

Cell structure, membranes, transport, division and respiration. Diagram labelling and process sequencing dominate, both of which respond to self-testing. Osmosis and water-potential questions are where calculation-type marks appear.

Genetics and inheritance

SL and HL, substantially extended at HL

Inheritance patterns, gene expression, mutation and biotechnology. The one topic in biology where a student can be defeated by the logic rather than the volume, particularly on dihybrid crosses and linkage at Higher Level, and that is worth mid-band time.

Physiology and body systems

SL and HL, substantially extended at HL

Gas exchange, transport, homeostasis, neurones and the immune response. The largest body of content in the course. A volume problem almost entirely, which means it is the cheapest part of the syllabus to address properly.

Ecology and ecosystems

SL and HL

Energy flow, nutrient cycling, population dynamics and conservation. Frequently the source of investigation research questions, and frequently the source of questions whose output is a description rather than a measurement.

Evolution and biodiversity

SL and HL, extended at HL

Natural selection, speciation, classification and phylogenetics. Marks go to explanation structured as a causal chain rather than as a narrative, which is a command-term discipline rather than a knowledge issue.

Paper 1

SL and HL · 36 per cent

Multiple-choice questions plus a data-based section. The data section is where biology students lose marks they did not know were available: quoting the figure, reading the axis correctly, and distinguishing correlation from the causal claim the question did not make.

Paper 2

SL and HL · 44 per cent

Extended response across the syllabus and the largest component in the course. Command-term discipline decides the band here more than coverage does, which is why a block of marking-led work at the qualified tier is the highest-value biology purchase.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL · 20 per cent · 24 marks

An individual investigation with a 3,000-word ceiling, assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation at six marks each. In biology the usual failure is biological variability treated as experimental error, and insufficient replication to say anything about it.

Retrieval practice

Not a syllabus topic, and the largest single lever in biology

Spaced self-testing against the syllabus statements, scored and repeated. It solves the volume problem, which is most of the biology problem, and it is the one intervention a student can run alone or at the bottom tier of the market.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases cover almost every biology need, and they sit at different tiers. Buying all three at the top tier is the most common way a Dubai biology budget disappears without changing a grade.

Retrieval practice, bottom tier or self-run

Short frequent self-testing against the syllabus statements, scored and repeated at increasing intervals. It solves the content-volume problem, which is most of the biology problem. A student can run it alone with a well-made question bank, or at the bottom of the market with someone to administer and score it.

  • Twenty to thirty minutes, three or four times a week
  • Scored against syllabus statements, with the score recorded
  • Spacing increased as recall becomes reliable
  • Appropriate at AED 33-150 an hour, or at no cost with discipline

Command-term marking block, mid tier

Six to eight sessions at the qualified band, built entirely around marking Paper 2 style questions to the published scheme. The object is a habit change, not content coverage: describe, explain, deduce, outline, distinguish and suggest each buy something different, and the loss stops once the habit changes. Measurable within three weeks.

  • Six to eight sessions, not a year-long commitment
  • Every question marked to the published scheme before the session
  • Losses tagged by command term so the pattern is visible
  • AED 150-300 at the qualified online band

Investigation coaching, mid tier, block-booked

Three or four sessions placed against the school's internal deadlines. Research-question feasibility first, with biological variability and replication addressed before data collection, then a draft read against the four criteria with six marks named against each. The student designs, collects and writes; the tutor questions and marks.

  • Replication and sample size settled before any data is collected
  • Biological variability distinguished from experimental uncertainty
  • Four criteria named with six marks each in every piece of feedback
  • AED 150-300; this is the work the budget tier cannot do

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What AED 45 an hour buys in Dubai biology, and what it does not

Start at the bottom of the published range rather than the top, because for biology the bottom is genuinely useful. EdFlik publishes online tuition from AED 45-65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. At that tier the realistic product is content explanation, worked examples and supervised question practice, usually delivered by a university student. For a Diploma biology student whose problem is recalling the stages of a process or the structure of a membrane, that is sufficient, and paying four times more for it is a straightforward waste.

What the budget tier reliably cannot do is mark against published criteria. Reading a Paper 2 answer and identifying that the student described where the question asked them to deduce requires familiarity with the mark scheme's conventions. Reading an investigation draft against research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation requires knowing what each of those four criteria rewards and what each is worth. Neither is available at AED 45 an hour, and a family who buys criterion-referenced work at that tier is paying for something they are not receiving.

The qualified band at AED 150-300, with Unitors listing IB specifically from AED 200, is where criterion-referenced marking and investigation coaching sit. The specialist band at AED 200-450 and the premium band above it exist for scarcity and for component-level depth. Biology is the best-supplied Diploma science in this emirate, which means a family rarely needs to go above the qualified band and should ask what the extra is for if quoted higher.

The table below sorts the tiers by what they can and cannot do rather than by adjectives. All figures belong to the providers who published them, read in October 2026. Those bands are the market's, not IB Gram's, and the free 30-minute trial lesson with no card details taken is where a plan with a stated hour count gets quoted.

Biology is a volume problem, and hours are the wrong answer

  • Retrieval is a separate skill from understanding and is built by testing
  • Twenty to thirty minutes, three or four times a week, scored and spaced
  • It needs administration rather than expertise, so it belongs at the bottom tier
  • Paid hours belong on Paper 2 command terms and on the investigation

Diploma biology carries a large body of content and comparatively little calculation, and that combination produces a specific failure mode. A student reads the material, understands it, feels reasonably confident, and then cannot retrieve it four months later under time pressure. The felt experience is of understanding biology and being bad at biology exams, and the instinctive family response is to buy more explanation.

More explanation does not fix it, because the problem is not comprehension. Retrieval is a separate skill from understanding and it is built by testing rather than by reading or listening. The intervention is spaced self-testing against the syllabus statements: twenty to thirty minutes, three or four times a week, scored, with the interval between repetitions increasing as recall becomes reliable. It is tedious and it is the single largest lever available in this subject.

The cost consequence is substantial. Retrieval practice requires administration and discipline rather than subject expertise, which means it sits at the bottom of the market or at no cost at all if a student will run it themselves. A Dubai family who buys retrieval practice at the specialist band is paying AED 270 an hour for someone to read questions aloud, and that is the most common overspend in Diploma biology.

The corollary is where the paid hours should go. Two places: command-term discipline on Paper 2, which is 44 per cent of the grade and where the marks lost are technique rather than knowledge, and the investigation, which is 20 per cent and cannot be done well without criterion-referenced reading. Together they account for nearly two thirds of the grade and require perhaps ten to twelve paid hours across a Diploma year at the qualified band.

03

Where biology marks go: command terms and the data question

  • Command-term discipline is one habit, worth marks across every topic
  • Three weeks of verb-tagged marking changes it; explanation alone does not
  • Data questions require the figure to be quoted, not just understood
  • Precise terminology is a retrieval task and belongs at the lower tier

The largest single category of lost marks in Dubai biology scripts is command-term misreading, and it is cheap to fix because it is one habit rather than many gaps. State wants a fact with no justification. Describe wants observable detail. Explain wants a causal chain. Deduce wants a conclusion derived from information given in the question. Outline wants a brief account. Distinguish wants both sides placed against each other. Suggest wants applied reasoning on unfamiliar material. A student who writes a description every time loses marks on both papers at once.

The fix is enforcement rather than instruction. The concept takes twenty minutes to explain. Changing the habit takes about three weeks of every answer being marked against its verb, with the loss tagged by command term so the pattern is visible in the record. After six to eight marking-led sessions the student is reading the verb before the content, and the gain shows up across every topic simultaneously because the habit is topic-independent.

The second category is the data question, and it is where biology students lose marks they did not know were on offer. Paper 1's data-based section and many Paper 2 questions supply a table or a graph, and the mark scheme requires the figure to be quoted. A biologically correct answer that does not cite the data earns less than a thinner answer that does. The related trap is the causal claim: a question asking what the data show is not asking why, and students who explain mechanism where description was requested lose the mark for the right reason badly applied.

The third is specificity of terminology. Biology mark schemes frequently require a precise term rather than a correct paraphrase, and a student who writes 'the thing that carries the signal' when the scheme wants 'neurotransmitter' has demonstrated understanding and not earned the mark. This is a retrieval problem again, which puts it back at the bottom tier, and it is the clearest illustration of why the two kinds of work need separating.

04

The biology investigation: replication, variability and 24 marks

The internally assessed investigation carries 20 per cent of the biology grade, has a 3,000-word ceiling, and is marked out of 24 across four criteria at six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A fifth of the grade awarded without time pressure makes it the most recoverable part of the course, and the part most often started in the term when every other Diploma deadline arrives.

Biology has a design problem the other sciences do not share to the same degree, which is biological variability. Living material varies between individuals for reasons unconnected to the independent variable, and a design with three repeats cannot distinguish a real effect from that variation. Research design and data analysis both depend on replication being sufficient and on the student knowing why. The most common Dubai biology investigation failure is a well-conceived question with a sample size that cannot support a conclusion.

The second failure is treating variability as experimental error. An uncertainty in a thermometer reading and the spread in germination rates across thirty seeds are different things, and the evaluation criterion rewards a student who can say which dominated and why. Students who write about equipment precision when the dominant source of spread was the organism itself have missed the biology in their own data.

The boundary matters and should be agreed before the first session. A tutor may teach experimental design, question whether a research question and sample size can support a conclusion, teach how to treat variability and process data, name the criteria and their mark allocations, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not design the investigation, supply data, or write any part of the report. Work that is not the student's own produces a malpractice finding against the student rather than the provider. One UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750.

05

Higher and Standard Level biology: more of the same, mostly

Both levels share the component structure and the four investigation criteria, and Higher Level adds substantial content with longer papers. The important point for cost planning is the character of the addition: in biology, Higher Level is largely more material of the same kind rather than a step into a different sort of thinking. Genetics gains real logical difficulty at Higher Level, and physiology gains depth, but most of the extension is volume.

That matters because volume is the cheap problem. A Higher Level biology student who is behind is usually behind on coverage, and coverage responds to retrieval practice at the bottom tier. The same student at Higher Level physics or Higher Level mathematics would be facing an increase in abstraction, which does require specialist teaching. Families who buy Higher Level biology support at the same tier as Higher Level physics support are frequently buying more than the subject requires.

The exception is worth naming precisely. Higher Level genetics — dihybrid crosses, linkage, chi-squared analysis of inheritance data — is the part of biology where a student can be defeated by the reasoning rather than by the quantity. That is mid-band or specialist work and it is worth paying for. Identifying whether a Higher Level biology problem is genetics logic or general coverage is a single diagnostic session and it changes the cost of the whole plan.

University requirements are the other input and they are published by each institution. Most medicine, dentistry and veterinary routes expect Higher Level biology or chemistry, often both; biomedical and life-science courses vary; some health and environmental courses accept Standard Level. Read the requirement for the actual courses on the student's list rather than inferring it, and note that tutoring is not a requirement for any admission or equivalency process.

06

Monthly budgeting across the two Diploma years

Hourly rates obscure the figure a family actually plans around, so convert them. One weekly 60-minute session across a Dubai academic year is roughly 36 sessions. The Bestimate survey's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240-600 at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Advertised monthly packages in the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

For biology specifically, a well-sequenced plan does not need a weekly session at the qualified band across two years. Diploma Year 1 can be mostly retrieval practice at the bottom tier plus three or four investigation planning sessions late in the year. Diploma Year 2 adds a marking block of six to eight sessions on Paper 2 command terms, plus investigation drafting. The paid mid-band total across both years is often under twenty hours.

The alternative — weekly sessions in biology at the qualified band across two years — is roughly seventy hours. Both plans are defensible for a student who needs sustained teaching. For the much larger group whose problem is coverage and technique, the first plan costs a third as much and addresses the same marks, and the difference is sequencing rather than quality.

The table sets out the two shapes. Figures for school fees are deliberately absent because fee bands are school-specific and published per school by KHDA; one relevant piece of context is that KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion.

What a Dubai family should refuse to pay for

  • Completed assessed work, at any price, because the student carries the consequence
  • Grade promises, which are not available honestly before boundaries are set
  • Star ratings with no countable, attributable reviews behind them
  • Bundles of reproduced IB papers and mark schemes

The first is assessed work. One UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. Buying submitted work is a malpractice matter falling on the student, with the Diploma itself at stake rather than a grade, and no price makes that a reasonable transaction. A tutor teaches, questions, names criteria and gives feedback on work the student produced; anything past that line is not a service.

The second is a promise about a grade. Grade boundaries are determined after a session on the basis of candidate performance across the whole cohort, so the mark required for a given grade is not knowable while the teaching is happening. A provider offering a specific grade, a specific lift in marks or money back on a result is describing a sales position. What can honestly be committed to is procedural: a marked question after every session, a recorded score, written feedback on the student's own work.

The third is a rating with nothing behind it. Competitor pages in this market publish star ratings and review counts that contradict each other within a single page, including one showing a perfect score from twenty reviews alongside a claim of several thousand students taught. Review markup that is not backed by countable, attributable reviews is a structured-data violation and, as a commercial representation in the UAE, a consumer-protection exposure.

The fourth is a reproduced resource library. IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the International Baccalaureate, and a provider circulating bundles of them is telling you how it treats rules in general. The correct behaviour is to reference and link the official source at ibo.org. IB Gram does neither reproduce nor distribute them, and holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE.

08

Dubai's regulatory context and the hours a student actually has

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects annually against six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. The sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, and seven new private schools were approved for the 2026-27 intake, three of them International Baccalaureate, adding 16,846 places, with enrolment up six per cent during 2025-26.

The mandatory-subject requirement is the piece of regulation that constrains a tutoring plan. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral studies are taught in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA's requirements due to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for the two groups are prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with KHDA advising no such lesson falls below 25 minutes.

For a biology plan built on retrieval practice this matters directly, because retrieval practice needs several short slots a week and those slots have to exist. A Diploma student carrying six subjects, the core, CAS and two or three mandatory UAE subjects has a smaller discretionary week than a plan on paper assumes. Twenty-five minutes four times a week is achievable; ninety minutes four times a week is not, and a plan that assumes the latter fails quietly.

Two closing points. For the mandatory subjects, the use of different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited, and teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic must hold the relevant approval from KHDA. And private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years; because it is free, no provider can justify a charge on licensing grounds.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Delivery is online, so the rate does not change across the emirate. What changes is the in-home quote a family is comparing against, and how long a Diploma student has been awake by the time a session starts.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Palm Jumeirah

Well supplied by in-home tutors and therefore the smallest travel premium in the emirate. Even so the published in-home band sits above the online one, and tower access adds time at both ends that nobody itemises.

Arabian Ranches, Mudon and Damac Hills

The largest in-home premium, because a tutor commits an hour of driving either side of the lesson. For a well-supplied subject like biology, paying that premium buys nothing the online market does not already offer.

Al Barsha and Dubai Hills Estate

Several IB World Schools within a short radius and large biology cohorts. Demand here is high but supply in biology is good, so families in this cluster usually have real choice even in the spring term.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Established Diploma programmes with equipped laboratories and often a biology garden or field site, which widens the range of viable investigation questions. Support here is better spent on replication design than on apparatus workarounds.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

More price-sensitive on average and more likely to be comparing a tuition-centre group class. For biology content coverage a group class is a defensible purchase; for the investigation and Paper 2 marking it is not the same thing.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to the universities, so undergraduate tutors at the budget band are easy to find. For retrieval practice and content review that is the right tier; for criterion-referenced investigation feedback it is not.

Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens and Dubai South

Newer Diploma provision with smaller biology cohorts. Travel quotes to this corridor are among the highest in the emirate, which makes the published online band the clearly better value for a subject with good online supply.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which kind of biology problem it is

The useful opening message distinguishes three things: cannot recall the content, can recall it and loses marks on paper, or stuck on the investigation. Those three need different tiers at different costs. An enquiry that says only 'needs help with biology' gets priced defensively, which means at the top.

  2. 02

Free 30-minute trial lesson, one per family

Live video with the matched tutor, no card details taken, no obligation. It is spent on one Paper 2 style question marked live against the published scheme with the command term named, because that shows whether the problem is recall or technique and therefore which tier you need.

  3. 03

    The honest tier recommendation

After the diagnostic you get told which parts of the plan belong at the bottom tier or can be run without a tutor at all. For a pure coverage problem that recommendation may be retrieval practice and nothing else for a term, which is a smaller sale and the correct answer.

  4. 04

A marking block with a stated end

Where command-term technique is the issue, six to eight sessions at the qualified band with every question marked to the published scheme before the session and the loss tagged by verb. The block has an end date, because the habit either changes within it or the diagnosis was wrong.

  5. 05

    Investigation sessions against school deadlines

Three or four sessions placed around the school's own internal deadlines, starting with whether the research question and sample size can support a conclusion given biological variability. Changing a question early is cheap; discovering the replication problem at draft stage is not.

  6. 06

    Re-cost at the halfway point

Mid-plan the retrieval scores and the marked scripts are read together. Where coverage has come good and the losses have moved to technique, the tier changes. Where both have come good, the plan ends. An hour count can be reduced; a monthly subscription is designed not to be.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced from the bottom up

The page starts at AED 33-65 an hour rather than at the premium band, because a large share of biology problems genuinely belong there. Naming what the cheap tier does well is more useful to a Dubai family than another argument for buying the expensive one.

What each tier cannot do is stated

The budget tier cannot mark against a published scheme or against the four investigation criteria. The premium tier cannot provide access to marking, boundaries or paper content. Knowing both limits is what lets a family place each task correctly.

Retrieval practice separated from paid teaching

The largest lever in biology is spaced self-testing, which needs administration rather than expertise. Recommending it at the bottom tier or with no tutor at all is a smaller sale and the honest answer for a content-volume problem.

Marking blocks have end dates

Command-term work is six to eight sessions with a stated finish, because the habit either changes inside that window or the diagnosis was wrong. A technique fix sold as a year-long weekly commitment is a technique fix being used as a subscription.

Replication addressed before data collection

Biological variability is the design problem specific to this subject, and three repeats on living material cannot separate an effect from natural spread. Settling sample size before collection is the difference between an investigation that can conclude something and one that cannot.

Every figure attributed and dated

Each AED band here names the provider or survey that published it and the month it was read. Three of the six pages ranking for Dubai tutoring queries publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars, which leaves a parent without a benchmark.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What is the cheapest way to improve an IB biology grade in Dubai?+

Spaced retrieval practice, which can be run at the bottom of the market or at no cost at all. Diploma biology carries a large body of content and little calculation, so the characteristic failure is understanding the material in October and being unable to retrieve it in May. Retrieval is built by testing rather than by reading or listening: twenty to thirty minutes of scored self-testing against the syllabus statements, three or four times a week, with the interval increasing as recall becomes reliable. It needs administration rather than subject expertise, which is exactly why it does not belong at a specialist rate.

What can an AED 45 an hour biology tutor in Dubai actually do?+

Content explanation, worked examples and supervised question practice, usually delivered by a university student. EdFlik publishes online tuition from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, read in October 2026. For a student whose problem is recalling a process or a structure, that is a sufficient and sensible purchase. What the tier reliably cannot do is mark a Paper 2 answer against the published scheme or read an investigation draft against research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A family buying criterion-referenced work at that rate is paying for something they are not getting.

Which biology tasks genuinely need a mid-band or specialist tutor?+

Two, and they account for most of the grade. Command-term discipline on Paper 2, which carries 44 per cent, where the lost marks are technique rather than knowledge and the correction requires someone who knows what the mark scheme pays for. And the investigation, which carries 20 per cent and cannot be done well without someone who can read a draft against four criteria at six marks each. Higher Level genetics is the third, because dihybrid crosses, linkage and chi-squared analysis can defeat a student on reasoning rather than on volume. Everything else is usually cheaper.

Why does my child understand biology but lose marks in the exams?+

Usually command terms, and it is one habit rather than many gaps. State wants a fact. Describe wants observable detail. Explain wants a causal chain. Deduce wants a conclusion from information given in the question. Distinguish wants both sides placed against each other. A student who writes a description every time loses marks across both papers simultaneously, which looks like a subject-wide weakness. The concept takes twenty minutes to explain and about three weeks of verb-tagged marking to change, and the gain appears across every topic at once because the habit is topic-independent.

How many values and repeats does an IB biology investigation need?+

Enough to separate a real effect from biological variation, which is the design problem specific to this subject. Living material varies between individuals for reasons unconnected to the independent variable, so a design with three repeats usually cannot support a conclusion however carefully it was executed. Research design and data analysis both depend on replication being sufficient and on the student explaining why it is. The most common Dubai biology investigation failure is a good question with a sample size too small to say anything, and it is detectable before any data is collected.

What is the difference between biological variability and experimental uncertainty?+

An uncertainty in a thermometer reading is a property of the instrument. The spread in germination rates across thirty seeds is a property of the organisms. The evaluation criterion rewards a student who can say which of the two dominated their results and how it limits the conclusion drawn. Students who write about equipment precision when the organism was the dominant source of spread have missed the biology in their own data, and that is a six-mark criterion being partly given away. It is taught before data collection rather than reconstructed afterwards.

Is Higher Level biology much harder than Standard Level?+

It carries substantially more content and longer papers, but the character of the addition matters for planning: in biology most of the extension is volume rather than a step into a different kind of thinking. That makes a Higher Level biology student who is behind usually behind on coverage, and coverage is the cheap problem. The exception is Higher Level genetics, where dihybrid crosses, linkage and chi-squared analysis introduce genuine logical difficulty. Identifying whether the problem is genetics reasoning or general coverage takes one diagnostic session and changes the cost of the whole plan.

What does a monthly biology tutoring budget look like in Dubai?+

It depends entirely on sequencing. The Bestimate survey's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240-600 at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work, and advertised packages include AED 799 for eight online sessions. A sequenced biology plan — retrieval practice at the bottom tier in Year 1, a six-to-eight session marking block in Year 2, plus investigation coaching — often totals under twenty paid mid-band hours across both Diploma years. A weekly qualified-band session across the same period is roughly seventy.

Do data-based questions in IB biology need separate practice?+

Yes, and they are the most commonly neglected marks in the subject. Paper 1's data-based section and many Paper 2 questions supply a table or graph, and the mark scheme requires the figure to be quoted. A biologically correct answer that cites no data scores less than a thinner one that does. The related trap is the causal claim: a question asking what the data show is not asking why, and explaining mechanism where description was requested loses the mark. Drilling multiple-choice questions does not touch any of this, which is why students who revise that way are surprised by Paper 1.

Is in-home biology tutoring in Dubai worth the premium?+

Only if attention management is the real problem. The Bestimate survey puts qualified in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for comparable work online, and the premium rises with distance from the central tutoring clusters. The premium pays for a commute. Biology is the best-supplied Diploma science in this emirate, so there is no scarcity argument for restricting the pool to driving distance. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; that is an India-only service.

Can a tuition-centre group class replace one-to-one biology support?+

For content coverage, often yes. A group class can work through a syllabus efficiently when everyone is at the same level, and the per-student rate is the lowest of the three formats in this market. What it cannot do is read one student's investigation draft against four criteria, or mark their Paper 2 answers against the verb they misread. The sensible combination for a price-sensitive Dubai family is group or self-directed work for content plus a small number of one-to-one hours aimed precisely at the individually assessed components.

What may a tutor do with an IB biology investigation?+

Teach experimental design, question whether a research question and sample size can support a conclusion given biological variability, teach data processing and the treatment of spread, name the four criteria and their six marks each, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. What a tutor may not do is design the investigation, supply data or write any part of the report. Work that is not the student's own produces a malpractice finding against the student rather than the provider who sold it. One UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750.

Is Standard Level biology enough for a medicine application?+

Read the requirement for the specific courses on the student's list, because it varies by institution and by course and is published by each university rather than inferable. Most medicine, dentistry and veterinary routes expect Higher Level biology or chemistry and often both. Biomedical and life-science courses differ considerably. Some health and environmental courses accept Standard Level. That afternoon of reading settles more of the level decision than any amount of discussion, and it is worth noting that tutoring is not a requirement for any admission process or for Ministry of Education equivalency.

Why does a Dubai Diploma student have so little time for retrieval practice?+

Because the week is fuller than a plan assumes. Six Diploma subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS already fill it, and Dubai private schools additionally teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral studies regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab students in several of those subjects and instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. The practical consequence is that retrieval practice has to be designed in short slots. Twenty-five minutes four times a week is achievable; ninety minutes four times a week is a plan that fails quietly.

What if we book biology support and the diagnosis says we do not need it?+

You get told, and the recommendation is written down. For a pure coverage problem the honest answer is often retrieval practice at the bottom tier or run by the student alone for a term, with a review afterwards. That is a smaller sale and it is the correct advice, because paying a qualified or specialist rate for someone to read recall questions aloud is the most common overspend in Diploma biology. A provider whose revenue depends on a rolling monthly subscription has no reason to give that answer, which is worth knowing before signing one.

Place the task at the right tier before buying hours

Biology is the Diploma science where sequencing saves the most money, because the biggest lever in the subject needs discipline rather than expertise. Decide first which of three problems you have: cannot recall the content, can recall it and loses marks on paper, or stuck on the investigation. The first belongs at the bottom tier or at no cost. The second is a six-to-eight session marking block. The third is three or four sessions against the school's deadlines. Send the level and the last marked paper, take the free 30-minute trial lesson, and ask for a plan with a stated hour count and a stated end.
