IB DP Year 2 Tutor in Dubai

What does an IB DP Year 2 tutor in Dubai cost, and what moves the number? Published rates in this emirate run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the budget online tier to AED 650 for a premium named tutor, and the spread is driven by level, subject scarcity, how late in the final year you book, and whether you are paying for travel. This page prices the final Diploma year honestly. Lessons run one-to-one on live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Pricing the final Diploma year without guessing

Three of the six pages currently ranking for Dubai tutoring queries publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. One of them asks the price question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. That is the state of the market a Dubai parent is shopping in during the final Diploma year, which is the most expensive tutoring year of a child's school career and the one in which a family has least time to compare. A parent is being asked to commit several thousand dirhams to a market that will not publish what it charges, which is a strange place to have to make a decision.

So start with the numbers, attributed. Read from providers' own published pages in October 2026: EdFlik lists online tuition from AED 45-65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist work. BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. The Bestimate rate survey for Dubai puts qualified in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above.

Those bands do not explain themselves, and the explanation is where a Dubai family saves money. The number moves on four things: the level and scarcity of the subject, whether the work is examination technique or independent-component coaching, how late in the final year the booking is made, and whether a commute is being paid for. Only one of those four is about teaching quality. Three are logistics, and logistics can be managed down without touching what the student actually receives.

The final-year deadline stack is what drives the late-booking premium. Internal Assessments across six subjects, the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition, the Extended Essay final version, predicted grades for university applications, and then the May examinations all land inside roughly seven months. Families who begin looking in February are competing for the same specialists as every other Diploma family in the emirate, at the top of the published range, for the hours that remain. Families who plan in September pay the middle of the range and get a choice of tutor.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. The cost consequence is direct and it runs in the family's favour: against the Bestimate in-home band of AED 180-350 and independent home-tutor quotes of AED 200-500, an equivalent qualified online hour sits at AED 150-300 in the same market, and the saved premium was paying for a drive on Sheikh Zayed Road at five in the afternoon rather than for a better hour of teaching.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The final Diploma year is priced differently from everything around it, because the work changes shape. Four stages sit on either side of it, and each carries its own realistic hours and its own market band.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Year 1, the cheaper year

No external assessment, so the sensible frequency is fortnightly rather than weekly and the annual cost is roughly half a final-year plan. What DP1 money buys is measurement and early independent-component work. A family that spends moderately in DP1 usually spends less in total across the two years, because the final-year emergency is what costs money.

Dubai Diploma cohorts are fed from both MYP and IGCSE, and the transition gap determines whether DP1 needs one term of teaching or only periodic marking. That single judgement is worth making in September, because it is the difference between twenty hours and six.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

Diploma Year 2, the examined year

Final IA submissions, the TOK essay, the EE final version, predicted grades, then the May examinations. Hours rise and so do rates, because every Diploma family in the emirate is buying at once. The honest shape is two subjects at weekly frequency plus a small block of independent-component coaching, not six subjects at weekly frequency.

UAE schools sit the May session. No specific IB date appears on this page because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no date here has been confirmed from the IB itself; confirm with the school's IB coordinator.

COREAges 16-18 · across both years

The core components, priced separately

The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS behave differently from subjects. They are block-booked against school deadlines rather than held weekly, which makes them cheap in total: four or five sessions on an EE across the final year, two or three on a TOK essay. Up to three of the Diploma's 45 points come from TOK and the EE together.

Dubai's long December break falls at exactly the point in the final year when the EE needs concentrated work, which makes a short intensive inside the break the most cost-efficient block available in the two-year course.

POST-DPAges 17-19

University applications and the autumn after

Predicted grades, applications and admissions tests sit alongside the final-year academic work and compete for the same budget. Some families redirect tutoring money to admissions-test preparation in the autumn and resume subject work in the spring, which is a reasonable allocation if it is made deliberately rather than by drift.

UAE Ministry of Education equivalency is a separate process from university admission and is not something tutoring provides or guarantees. No IB points threshold for equivalency has been verified on the ministry's own pages, so none is published here.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Rates move by subject because supply does. These are the final-year Diploma subjects most requested by Dubai families, with a note on where each sits in the market's pricing and why.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested and the most scarce at Higher Level, which places it at the upper end of the qualified band and sometimes into the specialist band of AED 200-450. Paper 3 at Higher Level is the component most often booked alone, and the single-component booking is usually the cheapest useful purchase.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Better supplied than the Analysis route and priced in the middle of the qualified band. Statistics and modelling work benefits from a shared screen and a spreadsheet, which makes online delivery the natural format rather than a compromise on cost.

Physics

HL and SL

Higher Level physics sits with Analysis and Approaches at the scarce end. Much of the final-year loss is mathematical rather than conceptual, so an hour of algebra and graph linearisation often buys more marks than an hour of content and costs the same.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Reasonably supplied in Dubai at both levels and priced mid-band. The investigation carrying 20 per cent is normally block-booked rather than taught weekly, which is why a chemistry plan is usually cheaper in total than a maths one at the same frequency.

Biology

HL and SL

The best supplied of the three sciences and the most likely to be available at the lower end of the qualified band. The final-year work is command-term discipline and data-question technique, both of which respond to marking rather than to teaching hours.

Economics

HL and SL

Three commentaries of 800 words each from different published news sources form the IA, and they are priced as a block of three or four sessions. Higher Level adds a third paper. Diagram accuracy is the cheapest grade movement available in the subject.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Widely supplied, mid-band, and often the subject where a family can safely use fewer hours. The Individual Oral and the Higher Level essay of 1,200 to 1,500 words are both block bookings rather than weekly commitments.

Business Management

HL and SL

Mid-band and well supplied. The IA depends on access to a real organisation, so the cost is in the planning sessions rather than in content teaching. Generic theory is what final-year answers default to, and the fix is mechanical.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core, all Diploma candidates

Block-booked against school deadlines, typically four to seven sessions across the final year for both together. Per point of the Diploma this is the least expensive support available, because up to three points come from these two components combined.

Scarce Higher Level options

Further Mathematics, Global Politics, Music, Film, ab initio languages

Where supply is genuinely short, rates sit at the specialist band or above and availability rather than price becomes the constraint. The honest answer on these is sometimes a wait, a tutor outside the UAE on the same platform, or a referral elsewhere.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The three delivery shapes in this market carry three different prices, and the difference is not mainly about teaching. Here is what each costs in the Dubai final-year market and what the money is actually buying.

One-to-one online, the qualified band

The format used here. Published Dubai rates for a qualified subject tutor online run AED 150-300 an hour, with IB specifically from AED 200 at Unitors and AED 270 at TutorChase for specialist work. No travel is billed, the tutor pool is the whole platform rather than a driving radius, and marked drafts and annotated scripts are saved rather than handed over on paper.

  • Published band: AED 150-300 an hour for a qualified online subject tutor
  • No travel component in the price
  • Tutor selected by subject guide and component, not by distance
  • Marked work saved and re-readable, not carried away in a folder

In-home one-to-one, the travel band

The Bestimate survey puts qualified in-home one-to-one in Dubai at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200-500 and advertised monthly packages at AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits. The premium over an equivalent online hour is largely commute. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service.

  • Published band: AED 180-500 an hour depending on provider and distance
  • Advertised monthly packages at AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits
  • Tutor pool limited to drivable distance from the home
  • Premium rises with distance from the established tutoring clusters

Small group or tuition centre, the shared band

Group rates per student are genuinely lower and the format suits content revision across a syllabus. What it does not provide is anyone reading a specific student's Internal Assessment draft against the criteria, which in the final Diploma year is often the thing that most needs buying. Worth using for content and supplementing for the independent components.

  • Lowest per-student rate of the three formats
  • Works for syllabus content revision across a group at the same level
  • No individual marking of IA, EE or TOK drafts
  • Often combined with a small block of one-to-one for the core components

01

What an IB DP Year 2 tutor in Dubai costs, with sources

A qualified one-to-one online Diploma tutor in Dubai is advertised in this market at between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour, with IB-specific listings starting at AED 200. Below that, budget online provision is published from AED 33-65 an hour. Above it, specialist and premium listings run from AED 270 to AED 650. Those are the four bands a family will encounter, and the figures belong to the providers who published them, read in October 2026.

The attributions matter because the same page in this market frequently contradicts itself. One ranking competitor publishes a structured-data price range that disagrees with the figures in its visible text. Another publishes a discount table whose rows do not reconcile. A third quotes tiered prices in US dollars with no AED conversion while targeting UAE search queries. A parent comparing quotes needs a benchmark that names its sources, which is why each figure here carries the provider's name and the month it was read.

What is not published here is an IB Gram rate card, and the reason is that a final-year Diploma plan has too many variables for a single hourly number to be honest. The inputs are the subject and its level, the number of subjects, whether the hours go to examination technique or to independent-component coaching, the session frequency, whether independent marking is included, and how many weeks remain. A quote is produced against a written plan with a stated hour count, so the total is visible before anything begins.

One further honesty point about the budget tier. AED 45 an hour is a real price for a real service, and that service is usually content review and homework supervision by a university student. For a final-year Diploma student whose problem is a Higher Level Paper 3 or an investigation that will not generate data, it is not the thing being bought, and buying it does not save money so much as spend less on something else.

02

The four things that move the number in this emirate

  • Scarce Higher Level subjects price at the top of the band or above it
  • Core-component coaching is block-booked and cheap per Diploma point
  • Booking in September rather than the spring is the largest avoidable saving
  • The in-home premium is travel, and it scales with distance

Subject scarcity is the first and the largest. Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, Higher Level Physics and the smaller Diploma options are short in supply across Dubai, and short supply shows up as a rate at the top of the qualified band or in the specialist band. Biology, English A and Business Management are better supplied and price lower for identical quality. A family with a choice about which subject to buy support in is also making a cost decision, whether they realise it or not.

The type of work is the second, and it runs the other way from intuition. Independent-component coaching — an Extended Essay research question, an investigation's feasibility, a Theory of Knowledge essay structure — is block-booked at four to seven sessions in total for the whole final year. Weekly examination technique in two subjects is forty-plus hours. Per Diploma point, the core components are the least expensive support in the course, and they are the support families most often skip.

The booking date is the third and the most avoidable. Every Diploma family in Dubai starts looking at the same moment, which is the term the IA deadlines land. Specialists in scarce subjects are committed by then, the remaining availability prices at the top of the band, and the family's choice narrows to whoever is free. The same plan arranged in September costs the middle of the range and comes with a choice of tutor. This is the single largest saving available in the final year and it costs nothing to capture.

Travel is the fourth. The published in-home band of AED 180-500 against a qualified online band of AED 150-300 is the clearest price signal in this market, and the gap is a commute rather than a quality difference. The premium also rises with distance from the established tutoring clusters, which is why a family in Damac Hills is quoted differently from a family in the Marina for the same subject and the same tutor profile.

03

Tutoring cost in context: what else a Dubai Diploma family is paying

A tutoring figure means little without the other numbers around it. Dubai private school fees are the dominant cost, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. For a family budgeting the final Diploma year, that freeze is the single most useful piece of context available, because it means the tutoring decision is not competing with a fee rise.

The second number is examination entry. Diploma entry fees are handled by the school for school candidates and appear either inside the fee or as a separate charge depending on the school, so a family should ask which applies rather than assume. Private candidates and resit candidates pay the centre directly, and centre charges vary across the emirate.

The third is the sheer scale of the market a family is buying inside. Dubai had 387,441 private school students across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for a small share of total enrolment. Seven new private schools were approved for the 2026-27 intake, three of them International Baccalaureate, adding 16,846 places, and enrolment rose six per cent during 2025-26. Demand for Diploma specialists is growing against a supply that grows more slowly, which is the structural reason the specialist band holds.

The table puts tutoring next to the rest of the final-year spend. Figures for school fees are deliberately absent: fee bands are school-specific, published by KHDA per school, and a range invented here would be the kind of unsourced number this page exists to avoid.

Online, in-home and group in Dubai: the real comparison

This is the comparison most Dubai families are actually making, and it is usually presented to them as a quality argument when it is mostly a logistics argument. The teaching hour is the same hour. What differs is who is available to deliver it, what travel is embedded in the price, and whether anyone is looking at the individual student's work.

Online one-to-one widens the pool to everyone on the platform, which for a scarce Higher Level subject is the whole point. It embeds no travel. For final-year Diploma work it also happens to be the better medium: the work is draft annotation and marked scripts on a shared screen, both parties see the published criteria alongside the text, and every version is saved and searchable rather than handed back on paper and lost.

In-home one-to-one buys presence, which for a distractible student is a genuine benefit worth paying for. It costs AED 180-500 an hour in this market against AED 150-300 online, it restricts the tutor to driving distance, and the premium grows with distance from the central clusters. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE — home visits are a service offered only in India — so this comparison is presented as the market's reality rather than as two things we sell.

Group tuition is the cheapest per student and it is not a substitute for the final year's individual components. A group can revise a syllabus efficiently. A group cannot read one student's investigation and tell them the independent variable has only two values. The sensible combination for a price-sensitive Dubai family is group or self-directed revision for content, plus a small number of one-to-one hours aimed precisely at the independent components and the one paper that is costing marks.

05

The final-year deadline stack, and why February costs more than September

The final Diploma year compresses almost all of the course's independent work into its first two terms, and then adds university applications on top. Internal Assessments across six subjects, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay, the Extended Essay final version and predicted grades all resolve before the May session begins. A family that has not planned hours against that stack ends up buying them in the most expensive weeks of the year.

The mechanism is simple supply. Every Diploma family in Dubai becomes aware of the stack at roughly the same moment, which is when the first internal deadline is missed or nearly missed. At that point the specialists in scarce subjects are already committed, the available hours price at the top of the published band, and the family's realistic choice is whoever is free rather than whoever is right. Booking the same plan at the start of the year costs less and comes with a choice.

The second mechanism is sequence. Independent-component work is cheap and early; examination technique is expensive and late. Reversed, a family pays weekly rates through the autumn for examination practice that cannot be properly done until the content is finished, then discovers in the spring that an investigation needs rescuing and buys that at the top of the market. Done in order, the autumn is a handful of block-booked core sessions and the spring is focused paper work.

The honest planning advice is therefore unglamorous: write down every internal deadline the school has published, in order, in September. Decide which of them needs outside help and which does not. Book the help for the ones that do, early. That exercise takes an hour, costs nothing, and routinely saves more than any rate negotiation will.

06

What not to pay for in the final Diploma year

  • Completed assessed work: a malpractice risk carried by the student, at any price
  • Grade promises: not available honestly, because boundaries are set after the session
  • Examiner claims: ask for evidence, and note it gives no access to marking
  • Self-asserted star ratings: not information, and a structured-data violation

The most expensive mistake available in this market is also the most dangerous. One UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. Buying assessed work is a malpractice matter that falls on the student, not on the provider who sold it, and the possible outcome is the loss of the Diploma rather than a lower grade. A tutor may teach, question, name the criteria and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote; nothing beyond that is safe to buy whatever the price.

Promises about grades are the second. Nobody can commit to a Diploma point total or a subject grade in advance, because grade awarding happens after the session on the basis of candidate performance. A provider offering a specific result, a specific improvement or money back on an outcome is describing a sales position rather than how awarding works. What can honestly be promised is procedural: a marked script after each session, a named component each week, written feedback the student's own work.

Unverified examiner claims are the third. 'Examiner' is a powerful word in this market and it is frequently used for individuals whose current status cannot be evidenced, sometimes at the AED 500-650 band. A family paying that premium should ask for the evidence, and should be told plainly that examiner status does not provide access to marking, grade boundaries or unseen paper content. If it did, that would be a problem rather than a selling point.

Self-asserted ratings are the fourth. Competitor pages in this market publish star ratings and review counts that disagree with each other within a single page, including one showing a perfect score from twenty reviews alongside a claim of several thousand students. Fabricated review markup is a structured-data violation and, as a commercial representation in the UAE, a consumer-protection exposure. A rating with no countable, attributable reviews behind it is not information and should not carry a price.

07

Regulation, permits and what the price should include in Dubai

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated, and the regulation is relevant to price because a compliant tutor has a cost base an informal one does not. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Applications go through MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Two consequences for a family comparing quotes. The permit is free, so no provider can justify a charge on the basis of licensing costs. And individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no fine schedule published, which means any amount quoted online is unverified and should be treated as such.

There is a related restriction worth knowing. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a comparable bar on serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. This is press-reported rather than read from the current regulator policy document, so verify it before relying on it; the practical point is that the cheapest-looking arrangement, a child's own teacher privately, may not be permitted.

On VAT, this page states only what it can. Whether tuition fees carry UAE VAT is a question for the Federal Tax Authority's own guidance rather than for a tutoring page, and any quote a family receives should state plainly whether the figure includes VAT. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE or the International Baccalaureate, and operates no office, centre or branch in the UAE. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai would need a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a separate thing issued to training institutes.

08

Dubai's school system and the final-year timetable squeeze

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects annually against six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. The published band is a useful signal about a school and tells a family nothing about whether their own child's investigation will produce usable data, which is the kind of question final-year tutoring money is spent on.

The regulatory requirement that affects final-year hours is the mandatory-subject rule. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral studies are taught in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA's requirements due to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must run separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for the two groups are prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with KHDA advising no such lesson falls below 25 minutes.

For a final-year Diploma student this means a timetable carrying more than six subjects and the core, with additional internally assessed deadlines attached. Any plan that costs out weekly tutoring in three or four subjects without accounting for that is costing out hours the student does not have. Buying fewer hours that the student can actually use is cheaper and works better than buying more that get cancelled.

One constraint governs support for the mandatory subjects specifically: the use of different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited, so any help works from the school's own materials. Teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic must hold the relevant approval from KHDA for those subjects. Nothing here should be read as implying that IB Gram holds any UAE regulatory approval; it does not.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Delivery is online, so the postcode does not change the rate. It does change the alternative a family is comparing against, because the in-home market charges differently across the emirate depending on how far a tutor has to drive.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Palm Jumeirah

Dense, well-supplied by in-home tutors, and the one part of Dubai where the travel premium is smallest. Even here the published in-home band of AED 180-350 sits above the qualified online band, and parking in the towers adds time nobody bills honestly.

Arabian Ranches, Mudon and Damac Hills

Villa communities where the in-home premium is at its largest, because a tutor is committing an hour of driving either side of a lesson. Families here are the ones for whom online delivery changes the arithmetic most visibly.

Al Barsha and Dubai Hills Estate

Several IB World Schools in a short radius means local demand spikes at the same moment every final year, which is precisely when the specialist bands harden. Booking in September rather than February is worth more here than anywhere else in the emirate.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Established Diploma programmes and a long-standing in-home tutoring market, so families here often have an existing quote to compare against. The useful exercise is separating the teaching hour from the travel in that quote.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

More price-sensitive on average and more likely to be weighing group tuition at a centre. Group rates per student are genuinely lower, and the trade for a final-year Diploma student is that nobody marks their specific IA draft.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Short commutes and a student population close to the universities. Families here frequently use undergraduate tutors at the budget band, which works for content review and does not work for criterion-referenced marking.

Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens and Dubai South

Newer Diploma provision, smaller cohorts and long drives from the established tutoring clusters. The travel premium quoted to families here is often the highest in the emirate, which makes the online comparison stark.

Mature Diploma programmes with full Higher Level offerings and long results histories. Final-year families here tend to be buying one or two scarce subjects rather than broad support, which puts them in the specialist band for a small number of hours.

  • Dubai International Academy
  • JESS Jumeirah
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Uptown International School
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Swiss International Scientific School

Newer and expanding Diploma provision

Schools that added the Diploma more recently, sometimes with narrower Higher Level offerings. Where a school runs one teacher across both levels in a subject, final-year families buy independent marking as much as teaching.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • The Arbor School
  • Fairgreen International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy

Schools running both the Diploma and A Levels

Where both programmes exist on one campus, final-year Diploma students sometimes share a timetable with A Level cohorts. Budget decisions in these schools often involve weighing a Diploma subject against an admissions test.

  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Hartland International School
  • Safa British School

Schools are named to describe the Dubai Diploma market a family is buying in. IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or commercial relationship with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subjects, the levels and the deadlines

A useful quote needs the six subjects with their levels, the maths route, the school's published internal deadlines for IAs and the Extended Essay, and how many weeks remain. Without the deadlines a plan cannot be sequenced, and an unsequenced final-year plan is how families end up buying the expensive hours.

  2. 02

Free 30-minute trial lesson, one per family

Live video with the matched tutor, no card details taken and no obligation afterwards. In the final year it is spent on real work: one question or one paragraph of the student's own draft marked live against the published criteria, so the standard is visible before any figure is discussed.

  3. 03

A written plan with an hour count

The plan states which subjects get hours, which components are block-booked, how many sessions each, and what the total comes to. It also states which subjects are being left alone. A quote attached to a stated hour count is comparable against the market bands on this page; an open monthly subscription is not.

  4. 04

    Core components booked first, early

Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge sessions go into the autumn against the school's own deadlines, because they are cheap per Diploma point and they are the components that become emergencies if left. Four to seven sessions across the year usually covers both.

  5. 05

Subject hours concentrated where marks move

Weekly sessions in the one or two subjects nearest a boundary, with a marked component each week. Spreading the same hours across four subjects produces four marginal improvements and no change in the points total, which is the most common way a final-year budget is wasted.

  6. 06

Review the hour count at the halfway point

Mid-year the plan is re-costed against the marked evidence. Where a subject has stabilised the hours stop; where a component is still at risk they move there. The point of an hour count rather than a subscription is that it can be reduced as easily as increased.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure carries its source and its date

Each AED band on this page names the provider or survey that published it and the month it was read. Three of the six pages ranking for these queries publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which leaves a Dubai parent with no benchmark to judge any quote against.

The travel premium is shown, not buried

In-home rates in this market run AED 180-500 an hour against AED 150-300 online for comparable work. That gap is a commute. Separating it out lets a family decide whether presence in the room is worth paying for, which is a real question with a real answer either way.

Quotes attach to an hour count

A plan states the number of sessions, the components they cover and the total, so it can be compared against the published bands. An open-ended monthly figure cannot be compared against anything, which is why it is the format most of this market prefers.

Cheap components bought first

Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge support is block-booked at a handful of sessions across the year and carries up to three Diploma points. Per point it is the least expensive help available, and it is the help families most often postpone into the term when it costs most.

Hours can go down

The plan is re-costed mid-year against marked evidence, and where a subject has stabilised the sessions stop rather than continue by default. A provider whose revenue depends on a rolling subscription has no reason to tell a family they can stop.

The things not to buy are named

Completed assessed work, grade promises, unevidenced examiner claims and self-asserted star ratings all carry prices in this market and none of them is worth paying. Naming them is more useful to a family comparing quotes than another paragraph about quality.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB DP Year 2 tutor in Dubai cost per hour?+

Published rates in this market, read in October 2026, span roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour. Budget online provision starts at AED 33-52 at Tutopiya and AED 45-65 at EdFlik. A qualified subject tutor online is advertised at AED 150-300, with Unitors listing IB specifically from AED 200. Specialist work is quoted at AED 270 by TutorChase, and the Bestimate survey puts IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above. Premium named listings reach AED 650 at BartyED. Each figure belongs to the provider that published it, and a quote should be judged against those bands.

Why is the final Diploma year more expensive than the first?+

Two reasons, and only one is about the work. The deadline stack is genuinely heavier: Internal Assessments across six subjects, the Theory of Knowledge essay and exhibition, the Extended Essay final version and the May examinations all resolve inside roughly seven months, so hours rise. The second reason is supply. Every Diploma family in Dubai starts looking in the same term, the specialists in scarce subjects are committed, and the remaining availability prices at the top of the published band. The first of those is unavoidable. The second is entirely a function of when the booking is made.

Which Diploma subjects cost the most to find a tutor for in Dubai?+

Scarcity sets the price, and the scarce ones are consistent: Higher Level Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, Higher Level Physics, and the smaller Diploma options such as Further Mathematics, Global Politics, Music, Film and ab initio languages. Those sit at the top of the qualified band or in the specialist band of AED 200-450 and above. Biology, English A and Business Management are better supplied in this emirate and price lower for identical quality of teaching. Where a family has flexibility about which subject to buy support in, that choice is also a budget decision.

Is online cheaper than a home tutor for a Diploma student in Dubai?+

Yes, measurably, and the gap is almost entirely travel. The Bestimate survey puts qualified in-home one-to-one in Dubai at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200-500 and monthly in-home packages advertised at AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits. An equivalent qualified online hour is published at AED 150-300. The premium also rises with distance from the central tutoring clusters, so a family in Damac Hills pays more than one in the Marina for the same tutor profile. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that is an India-only service.

What is the cheapest useful thing to buy in the final Diploma year?+

Per Diploma point, core-component coaching. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together award up to three of the 45 points, and both are block-booked rather than held weekly: four to seven sessions across the whole final year usually covers them. Compare that with forty-plus hours of weekly subject work for a possible one-grade movement in a single subject. The second cheapest is a single Internal Assessment feasibility review, three or four sessions, which prevents the most expensive emergency in the year — discovering in the spring that a method cannot produce usable data.

Can I get a monthly package rather than an hourly rate in Dubai?+

Monthly packages exist across this market and they are worth reading carefully. Advertised examples include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. The Bestimate survey's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240-600 at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. The thing to check is whether the package can be reduced mid-year, because a final-year plan should shrink when a subject stabilises rather than roll on by default.

Does a quote in Dubai include VAT on tuition?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing. The UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority's own guidance rather than for a tutoring page, and this page does not state it as fact. What any family can reasonably require is that a quoted figure says plainly whether it is inclusive or exclusive of VAT, and that a provider claiming to charge VAT can produce a tax registration number. A quote that is silent on the point can move by a meaningful margin once invoiced, which matters across a forty-hour final-year plan.

Is a premium examiner-badged tutor at AED 650 an hour worth it?+

Only if the claim is evidenced, and even then not for the reason it is usually sold. Examiner status should be demonstrable and current; 'examiner' is applied loosely across this market to individuals whose status cannot be checked. It also provides no access to marking in progress, to grade boundaries or to unseen paper content, and a provider implying otherwise is describing something that would be a serious problem rather than a benefit. What a genuinely experienced marker offers is calibration against the criteria, and that is available well below AED 650 in this market.

How many tutoring hours does a final-year Diploma student actually need?+

Fewer, and more precisely aimed, than most plans assume. A realistic shape is weekly sessions in the one or two subjects nearest a grade boundary — roughly 28 to 32 hours each across the year to the May session — plus four to seven block-booked sessions covering the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay, plus three or four on a single Internal Assessment. Spreading the same total across four or five subjects produces marginal movement in each and no change in the points total, which is the most common way a final-year budget is spent without effect.

When should a Dubai family book final-year Diploma support?+

September, and the saving is structural rather than a discount. Every Diploma family in the emirate becomes aware of the deadline stack at the same moment, which is when the first internal deadline is missed. By then the specialists in scarce subjects are committed, the available hours price at the top of the published band, and the choice narrows to whoever is free. The same plan arranged at the start of the year costs the middle of the range and comes with a choice of tutor. Writing the school's internal deadlines down in September takes an hour and routinely saves more than any negotiation.

Is group tuition a reasonable way to cut final-year Diploma costs?+

For content, yes. For the independent components, no. Group rates per student are the lowest of the three formats in this market and a group can revise a syllabus efficiently when everyone is at the same level. What a group cannot do is read one student's investigation and point out that the independent variable has only two values, or tell them their Extended Essay question cannot be answered in 4,000 words. The sensible price-sensitive combination is group or self-directed work for content, plus a small number of one-to-one hours aimed at the components that are individually assessed.

What is the risk in paying for help with an Internal Assessment?+

The risk is not the price; it is what is being bought. A tutor may teach the skills the component needs, question the student's plan, name the published criteria and their mark allocations, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. Paying for text to submit, for a draft to be rewritten into its final form, or for a completed investigation is buying a malpractice finding that falls on the student rather than the provider. One UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. The outcome at stake is the Diploma itself, not a grade.

Can any Dubai provider promise a points total for the May session?+

No, and the reason is how awarding works rather than caution. Grade boundaries are determined after a session on the basis of candidate performance, so the mark required for a given grade is not knowable while the teaching is happening. Any provider offering a specific points total, a specific lift in marks, or money back on a result is describing a sales position. What can be committed to is procedural and checkable: a marked component after every session, written feedback on the student's own work, and a stated hour count that can be reduced if the evidence says the hours are no longer needed.

Do tutors working with Dubai Diploma students need a licence, and does it affect the price?+

They need the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is granted free of charge for two years. That matters to a family comparing quotes for one reason: because the permit costs nothing, no provider can justify a charge on the basis of licensing. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Tutoring without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published.

What happens to the price if the subject we need has no tutor available?+

The answer should be availability rather than a higher number, and you should be told which. Narrow final-year requests do run short in this emirate — Higher Level Further Mathematics, a specific Paper 3, a minority language at ab initio level — and the honest options are a wait with a date attached, a tutor based outside the UAE delivering on the same live video platform and on Gulf Standard Time, or a referral elsewhere. A rate quoted at the specialist band for a tutor who has not taught that component is the thing to refuse. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Get the hour count before the hourly rate

The useful question in the final Diploma year is not what an hour costs but how many hours the plan needs and in what order. Write down the school's internal deadlines in September, decide which of them needs outside help, book the core components early because they are cheap per point, and concentrate subject hours on the one or two grades actually near a boundary. Send the subjects, the levels and the deadlines, take the free 30-minute trial lesson, and ask for a plan with a stated hour count so you can hold it against the published bands on this page.
