IB Physics Tutor in Dubai

Hiring an IB physics tutor in Dubai means paying somewhere between AED 150 and AED 450 an hour at the qualified and specialist bands, and almost nothing on the page you are reading it from will tell you whether the rate is justified. This page does the opposite: it prices physics support in this emirate, names what pushes the number up, and gives you eight questions that test a tutor before the first invoice. Lessons run one-to-one on live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Eight verification questions you can ask any physics tutor before paying
  • Investigation feedback refers to the four criteria and their 24 marks
  • Mathematical fluency diagnosed separately from physics understanding
  • One free 30-minute trial lesson per family, no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Pay the physics rate, then check you got it

Physics sits at the scarce end of the Dubai Diploma market, which means it prices at the top of the qualified band and frequently into the specialist band. Published figures in this emirate, read in October 2026: Unitors lists IB tuition from AED 200 an hour, TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist work, and the Bestimate rate survey puts IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above. Premium named listings reach AED 650. A Dubai family paying at those bands is entitled to know what distinguishes the hour they are buying from an hour at AED 50, and almost no page in this market will tell them.

The distinction is checkable, which is the useful part. A physics tutor worth a specialist rate can say which subject guide they teach to and what changed in it. They can mark a structured question against the published scheme while you watch, and explain why a mark was withheld rather than saying the answer was nearly right. They can name the four assessment criteria of the scientific investigation and what each is worth. And they can tell you, after one diagnostic, whether a student's problem is physics or algebra, because in Dubai scripts it is usually algebra.

That last point is the single most useful thing on this page. A large share of lost marks in Diploma physics has no physics in it. Rearranging an equation with the unknown in a denominator, handling powers of ten, converting units before substituting, linearising a relationship so a graph gradient means something: these are mathematical operations, and a student who cannot do them quickly will score below their physical understanding on every paper. Diagnosing that costs one session and changes what the next twenty are spent on.

The components are where the money should be aimed. Physics is assessed through two written papers and an internally assessed scientific investigation carrying 20 per cent of the grade, with a 3,000-word ceiling, around ten hours of class time and 24 marks across four criteria. A fifth of the grade awarded for work done without time pressure is the most recoverable part of the course, and it is also the part most commonly left until the term when every other Diploma deadline lands.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. The cost argument runs in the family's favour: the Bestimate survey puts qualified in-home one-to-one in Dubai at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for comparable work online. For physics there is a second argument, which is that the tutor pool for Higher Level physics in this emirate is small enough that restricting it to driving distance is the one decision guaranteed to reduce quality.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics arrives in a Dubai student's timetable by several routes, and what they bring from each determines what their Diploma physics support should cost and contain.

MYPAges 14-16 · MYP 4-5

MYP Sciences, Years 4 and 5

Integrated or separate sciences assessed against criteria covering knowledge, inquiry and design, processing and evaluating, and reflection on the impacts of science. Students arrive at Diploma physics well prepared for the scientific investigation and often underprepared for the mathematical density of the written papers.

In Dubai's full-continuum IB World Schools this route feeds directly into Diploma physics, and the usual first-term surprise is the quantity of algebra. MYP science assessment does not require sustained symbolic manipulation under time, so the gap is real and it is not a physics gap.

IGCSEAges 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE Physics into Diploma physics

Cambridge 0625 or Edexcel 4PH1 leaves a student fluent at structured written questions and, in the Cambridge case, practised at an alternative-to-practical paper. What transfers less well is independent experimental design, since IGCSE practical questions supply the method rather than asking the student to construct one.

British-curriculum schools dominate Dubai enrolment, so a substantial share of Diploma physics students arrive from IGCSE. Those who took Additional Mathematics 0606 arrive with the algebraic fluency Diploma physics assumes; those who took only 0580 Extended frequently do not.

SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Physics Standard Level

Two written papers plus the scientific investigation at 20 per cent. Paper 1 combines multiple-choice with a data-based section; Paper 2 is extended response. The right level for a student who needs physics for breadth or for a course that specifies the subject without specifying Higher Level, and it is not a soft option.

Several Dubai schools run Standard Level physics alongside Higher Level in the same room for part of the course, which means Standard Level students sometimes meet Higher Level content and conclude they are failing. Checking which content is actually assessed at their level is a five-minute fix with a real effect on confidence.

HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Physics Higher Level

The same component structure with substantially more content and longer papers. Required or strongly preferred by many engineering, physics and some medical and architecture courses. The mathematical demand is the differentiator rather than the conceptual difficulty, which is why the Higher Level diagnostic always includes algebra.

Higher Level physics is among the scarcest tutoring subjects in this emirate, which is why it prices at the specialist band and why availability rather than rate is often the binding constraint in the spring term. Booking in September costs less and comes with a choice of tutor.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics support is bought by component and by topic, and the price of an hour is the same whichever is addressed. These are the units a plan is built from, with what each actually costs a Dubai student in marks.

Mechanics and motion

SL and HL

Kinematics, forces, momentum and energy. Conceptually the most accessible topic and the one where algebraic errors do the most damage, because almost every question is a multi-step substitution. Marks go to sign conventions and to unit conversion performed after substitution rather than before.

Thermal physics and gases

SL and HL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat and the gas laws. The arithmetic involves powers of ten and large or small quantities, so calculator discipline and significant figures decide the mark more often than understanding does.

Waves and oscillations

SL and HL, extended at HL

Wave behaviour, superposition, standing waves and simple harmonic motion. The topic where trigonometric fluency becomes load-bearing, and where Standard Level students frequently lose marks describing a phenomenon correctly without producing the required calculation.

Electricity and magnetism

SL and HL, substantially extended at HL

Circuits, fields, induction and capacitance at Higher Level. The most commonly reported weakness in Dubai physics enquiries, and in most cases the obstacle is circuit analysis as simultaneous equations rather than the physics of the circuit itself.

Fields, gravitation and orbits

Extended at HL

Gravitational and electric fields, potential, and orbital motion. Higher Level content requiring comfort with inverse-square relationships and with sketching field and potential graphs. Students who cannot sketch from an equation struggle here regardless of their conceptual grasp.

Nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL, extended at HL

Radioactive decay, binding energy and quantum phenomena. Exponential decay is the mathematical gate, and logarithm handling is what separates students who can complete a half-life question from those who can describe one.

Paper 1

SL and HL · 36 per cent

Multiple-choice questions plus a data-based section. The data section is the discriminator: reading a graph gradient, identifying an uncertainty, recognising which quantity a plotted line actually represents. Pure multiple-choice practice does not prepare a student for it.

Paper 2

SL and HL · 44 per cent

Extended-response questions across the syllabus, including experimental contexts. The largest single component in the course and the one where command-term discipline costs the most: describe, explain, deduce and justify each buy something different.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL · 20 per cent · 24 marks

An individual investigation with a 3,000-word ceiling and around ten hours of class time, assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Six marks per criterion, and the usual failure is a research question that cannot produce enough varied quantitative data.

Mathematical technique inside physics

Not a syllabus topic, and the most common real gap

Rearrangement with the unknown in a denominator, powers of ten, unit conversion, linearising a relationship so a gradient has meaning, and solving simultaneous equations from a circuit. None of this is physics, and all of it decides physics marks.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three purchases cover almost every physics need in this emirate, and they cost very different totals because the hour counts differ rather than the rates.

Weekly component session with marking

Sixty minutes a week aimed at Paper 1's data section or Paper 2's extended response, with a structured question set between sessions and marked to the published scheme before the next. The marking is the product; the teaching follows from what it shows. Reports name the command term and the mark withheld rather than describing the session.

  • 60 minutes, live video, one named component per slot
  • Structured question marked between sessions, with the scheme applied
  • Command terms tracked separately from content across the plan
  • Written note to the parent naming the topic and the marks lost

Investigation coaching, block-booked

Three or four sessions placed against the school's internal deadlines. The work is research-question feasibility first — can this produce enough varied quantitative data? — then uncertainty treatment, then a draft read against the four criteria with their six marks each named. The student designs, collects and writes; the tutor questions and marks.

  • Research question tested for variable range and measurable output
  • Uncertainty and error treatment taught before data collection, not after
  • Four criteria named with six marks each in every piece of feedback
  • Comments written in the margin of the student's own document

Mathematical fluency block, short and frequent

Thirty-minute sessions, two or three a week for a few weeks, on rearrangement, powers of ten, unit conversion, linearisation and simultaneous equations from circuits. There is no physics in it. It is the cheapest intervention in the subject and it routinely produces the largest movement on Paper 2.

  • Short high-frequency sessions rather than one weekly hour
  • No physics content; symbolic manipulation and arithmetic only
  • Timed sets of twenty items, counted and compared week to week
  • Suitable at the budget band, because the content is not Diploma-specific

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What an IB physics tutor in Dubai costs, and what the band buys

A qualified one-to-one online physics tutor in this emirate is advertised at AED 150-300 an hour, with IB-specific listings starting at AED 200 at Unitors and specialist work quoted at AED 270 by TutorChase. The Bestimate rate survey puts IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above, and premium named listings reach AED 650 at BartyED. Below the qualified band, budget online provision starts at AED 33-52 at Tutopiya and AED 45-65 at EdFlik. Every figure here belongs to the provider or survey that published it, read in October 2026.

Physics prices toward the top because supply is thin. Higher Level physics requires a tutor comfortable with the mathematics as well as the content, and in a market where most tutoring supply is general rather than specialist, that combination is scarce. Scarcity also concentrates: demand across the emirate spikes in the same weeks of the final year, which is why a family looking in February meets the top of the band and a family looking in September meets the middle of it with a choice of tutor.

What the band should buy is specific and testable. At the qualified band and above, a physics hour should include marking to the published scheme rather than impression, feedback that names the command term and the mark withheld, and the ability to work on the investigation against its four criteria. At the budget band the realistic product is content review and worked examples, which is a legitimate purchase for mathematical drilling and is not the same thing as criterion-referenced marking.

No IB Gram rate card appears on this page, because a physics plan is priced by level, component and hour count rather than by a single number. What is published instead is the market benchmark above and the hour counts in the table below, so a quote can be held against both. The free 30-minute trial lesson, one per family and with no card details taken, is where the plan and the figure are discussed together.

The physics assessment structure, and where the weight sits

Physics is assessed through two written papers and an internally assessed scientific investigation. Paper 1 combines multiple-choice questions with a data-based section and carries 36 per cent. Paper 2 is extended response and carries 44 per cent, making it the largest single component in the course. The investigation carries the remaining 20 per cent. Papers are longer at Higher Level than at Standard Level, reflecting the additional content rather than a different structure.

Most Dubai physics revision is organised by topic, and that is the wrong axis for the final term. Paper 2 at 44 per cent is where the grade is decided, and Paper 2 rewards command-term discipline and multi-step calculation under time. The data-based section of Paper 1 is the second priority and the most commonly neglected: reading a gradient, identifying an uncertainty, recognising which quantity a plotted line represents. Students who revise by drilling multiple-choice questions never touch it.

The investigation deserves disproportionate attention because of what it is. A fifth of the grade, 24 marks across four criteria, 3,000 words, around ten hours of class time, and no time pressure at all. A student who secures 20 of 24 on the investigation has banked a fifth of their grade before an examination hall is involved. A student who secures 10 has given away marks that were available for process rather than performance, which is the most frustrating way to lose a grade.

Command terms are worth naming explicitly because they transfer. State wants a fact. Describe wants observable detail. Explain wants a causal chain. Deduce wants a conclusion reached from given information. Justify wants the reasoning shown. A student who answers everything as a description loses marks across both papers simultaneously, and the correction is a habit change enforced through marking rather than a topic to be learned.

03

Most Dubai physics problems are not physics problems

  • Twenty timed manipulation items diagnose the real gap in one session
  • Drilling has no physics in it and can be bought at the lower market band
  • Sketching and linearising graphs is a taught skill, not an intuition
  • Uncertainty is examined in the papers and assessed in the investigation

Set a Dubai Diploma physics student twenty short algebraic manipulations with no physical context, time them, and count. Rearranging for a variable in a denominator. Multiplying and dividing powers of ten. Converting a unit before substituting rather than after. Taking logarithms of both sides of an exponential relationship. Solving two simultaneous equations from a circuit. A student who is slow and inaccurate across those items is not losing marks on physics content, and teaching them more physics will not help.

This is the most common diagnostic finding in this subject and it is also the cheapest to act on. The intervention is thirty-minute sessions two or three times a week for a few weeks, with no physics in them at all, measured by timed sets of twenty items counted week to week. Because the content is not Diploma-specific, it can be delivered at the lower end of the market rate, which makes it the best value purchase available in physics.

The second non-physics problem is graph behaviour. Diploma physics asks students to sketch relationships from equations, to linearise a non-linear relationship so a gradient carries meaning, and to extract a physical quantity from that gradient with its units. Students who have only ever read graphs produced by software cannot do this, and the Paper 1 data section finds them out immediately. It is a teachable skill and it transfers to chemistry and biology data questions as well.

The third is uncertainty. Diploma physics expects a student to state uncertainties, propagate them through a calculation, and discuss their effect on a conclusion. This matters doubly because it is examined in the papers and assessed in the investigation, where the data analysis and evaluation criteria both depend on it. A student who treats uncertainty as a sentence added at the end of a report is losing marks in two places for the same reason.

04

The scientific investigation: 24 marks, four criteria

The investigation is an individual piece of experimental work with a 3,000-word ceiling, around ten hours of class time, and 24 marks split evenly across four criteria: research design, data analysis, conclusion, and evaluation. Six marks each. Those names and weights should be visible to the student before a research question is chosen, because they describe the task far better than the instruction to find something interesting.

The dominant failure in Dubai investigations is a research question that cannot generate the data the criteria require. Research design rewards a question with a clearly identified and genuinely variable independent quantity, a measurable dependent quantity, and controlled variables that are actually controlled. A question with two possible values of the independent variable cannot produce a graph, and without a graph the data analysis criterion has little to assess. Testing that before any apparatus is touched is the single highest-value session in the process.

Evaluation is the criterion students most often treat as padding. It asks for a reasoned assessment of the method's limitations and of the reliability of the conclusion, which is a different thing from a list of improvements beginning with the words 'use better equipment'. A good evaluation identifies which specific source of uncertainty dominated and explains how it propagated into the final result, which requires the uncertainty work to have been done properly during data collection rather than reconstructed afterwards.

The boundary is firm and worth stating before the first session. A tutor may teach experimental design, question whether a research question can produce usable data, teach uncertainty treatment, name the criteria and their mark allocations, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not design the experiment, supply data, or write any part of the report. Work that is not the student's own carries a malpractice finding against the student. One UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, and what is sold there is a risk to the Diploma.

THE PHYSICS INVESTIGATION CRITERIA AND THEIR MARK ALLOCATIONS
CriterionMarksWhat it rewardsThe common Dubai failure
Research design6A focused question with a genuinely variable independent quantity and controlled variablesToo few values of the independent variable to produce a meaningful graph
Data analysis6Correct processing, graphing and treatment of uncertaintyUncertainty omitted, or stated once and never propagated
Conclusion6A conclusion that follows from the data and is related to accepted physicsA restatement of the hypothesis rather than a reading of the results
Evaluation6Reasoned assessment of limitations and of the conclusion's reliabilityA generic improvement list instead of identifying the dominant uncertainty
05

Eight questions to ask a Dubai physics tutor before paying

  • Which guide, what changed, and the four investigation criteria named
  • A structured question marked live, with the withheld mark explained
  • What will not be done with the investigation, stated plainly
  • Examiner claims evidenced, and understood to give no access to marking

A specialist rate should survive questioning, and these eight questions take about ten minutes. Which subject guide do you teach to, and what changed in it? What are the four criteria of the scientific investigation and what is each worth? Mark this structured question in front of me and tell me why the third mark was withheld. How would you tell whether this student's problem is physics or algebra?

The second four are about process. How will I see what happened in each session? What do you set between sessions and when is it marked? What will you not do with my child's investigation? And what happens if, three sessions in, you conclude that we are buying the wrong thing? A tutor who can answer that last one honestly is worth more than one who cannot, because the answer that costs them money is the answer that tells you they are competent.

Two things are worth refusing regardless of the answers. Any offer to supply, write or complete an investigation, at any price, because the consequence falls on the student as malpractice. And any promise of a specific grade or points total, because grade boundaries are determined after a session on the basis of candidate performance and no honest provider can commit to one in advance. A page that offers both is telling you what it is.

One more item belongs on the list in this market. If a tutor is described as an examiner at a premium rate, ask for evidence of current status, and note that examiner experience provides no access to marking in progress, grade boundaries or unseen paper content. What it does provide is calibration against the published criteria, and that is available well below the premium band in this emirate.

06

Higher and Standard Level physics: what the extra actually is

Both levels share the same component structure and the same four investigation criteria. Higher Level carries substantially more content and longer papers. The extension is concentrated in fields and gravitation, in electromagnetic induction and capacitance, and in the depth of quantum and nuclear material, and all of those additions lean harder on mathematics than the shared content does.

That is why the level conversation in Dubai should be settled from a marked paper rather than from enthusiasm. A student scoring low at Higher Level whose losses concentrate in two named topics has a content problem that teaching addresses across eighteen months. A student whose losses are spread evenly across every topic and question type is being told that the mathematical demand of the level is the issue, and that is not something tutoring reliably converts into a top grade in the time available.

The university requirement is the other input, and it is published by the universities themselves. Many engineering and physics courses expect Higher Level physics; some accept Standard Level with a Higher Level in mathematics; architecture and some medical routes vary considerably. Reading the actual requirement for the actual courses on a student's list is an afternoon's work and it removes most of the uncertainty from the decision.

Where a Dubai school teaches both levels in the same room for part of the course, there is a practical and cheap intervention available: confirm which content is assessed at the student's own level. Standard Level students who have sat through Higher Level material and concluded they are failing physics are more common than they should be, and the fix is a syllabus comparison rather than a term of tutoring.

07

Dubai's school and regulatory context for physics

Dubai's private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects annually against six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. The sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, and seven new private schools were approved for the 2026-27 intake, three of them International Baccalaureate, adding 16,846 places. KHDA also confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for 2026-27.

Laboratory provision is the physics-specific variable across that landscape. A well-equipped school laboratory makes the investigation a design problem; a thinly equipped one makes it a logistics problem, and the research question has to be chosen accordingly. This is worth establishing in the first investigation session, because a question that requires apparatus the school does not hold will fail for reasons that have nothing to do with the student's physics.

The mandatory-subject requirement affects the hours available. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral studies are taught in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for the two groups prohibited. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with KHDA advising no such lesson falls below 25 minutes. A physics plan has to fit the week a student actually has.

Two points of record. For the mandatory subjects, the use of different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited, and teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic must hold the relevant approval from KHDA. And IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, the Ministry of Education or the International Baccalaureate, operates no UAE office or centre, and does not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes; those are referenced and linked at ibo.org instead.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Rates do not change by postcode when delivery is online. What changes by postcode is the in-home quote a family is comparing against, and how far a tutor would have had to drive to earn it.

Dubai Marina, JLT and Palm Jumeirah

The best-supplied part of the emirate for in-home science tutoring and therefore the smallest travel premium. Even here the published in-home band sits above the online one, and tower parking adds unbilled time at both ends of a lesson.

Arabian Ranches, Mudon and Damac Hills

Where the in-home physics premium is largest, because a Higher Level specialist is committing an hour of driving either side of the session. These are the families for whom the online comparison changes the arithmetic most.

Al Barsha and Dubai Hills Estate

Several IB World Schools in a tight radius, so Higher Level physics demand spikes in the same weeks every year. This is the cluster where September booking saves the most, because by February the specialists are committed.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Established Diploma programmes with well-equipped laboratories, so investigation work here is usually constrained by the research question rather than by apparatus. Support is better spent on design than on data collection.

Mirdif, Al Warqa and Al Qusais

A high share of students arriving from IGCSE physics, often from Cambridge 0625 with its alternative-to-practical paper. They arrive practised at interpreting a supplied method and unpractised at designing one, which shapes the investigation plan.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to the universities, and families here often consider undergraduate tutors at the budget band. For algebraic drilling that is a defensible choice; for investigation criteria and Paper 2 marking it is not the same purchase.

Al Furjan, Discovery Gardens and Dubai South

Newer Diploma provision with smaller physics cohorts, sometimes one teacher across both levels. Travel quotes to this corridor are among the highest in the emirate, which makes the published online band notably better value.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai IB schools with large physics cohorts

Mature Diploma programmes running physics at both levels with separate teaching groups and established laboratory routines. Families here typically buy a small number of specialist hours aimed at one component rather than broad support.

IGCSE physics feeder schools

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the level and the component

The useful opening message names Standard or Higher Level, the topic or paper that is failing, and whether the investigation is in scope. Those three facts set the tutor, the hour count and the quote. An enquiry that says only 'physics help' has to be unpacked before anything can be priced.

  2. 02

Free 30-minute trial lesson, one per family

Live video with the matched tutor, no card details taken and no obligation. Use it to run the verification questions: ask which guide, ask for the investigation criteria, and watch one structured question marked against the published scheme with the withheld mark explained.

  3. 03

    The algebra diagnostic first

Twenty timed manipulation items with no physical context, counted. If the result is slow and inaccurate, the plan starts with short high-frequency drilling at the lower market band rather than with Diploma content at the specialist band. That sequencing is usually the difference between a plan that moves marks and one that does not.

  4. 04

A written plan with an hour count

The plan states the components, the number of sessions on each and the total, so it can be held against the published market bands on this page. It also states what is being left alone. An open-ended monthly figure cannot be compared against anything, which is why most of this market prefers one.

  5. 05

    Investigation feasibility before data collection

Where the investigation is in scope, the first session tests whether the research question can generate enough varied quantitative data with apparatus the school actually holds. Changing a question early is cheap. Discovering the limitation after ten hours of class time is not.

  6. 06

    Review the hour count mid-plan

The evidence is re-read at the halfway point. Where the algebra has come good and Paper 2 marks have moved, the frequency drops. The purpose of an hour count rather than a subscription is that it can be reduced as readily as extended.

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure carries its source and its date

Each AED band on this page names the provider or survey that published it and the month it was read. Three of the six pages ranking for Dubai tutoring queries publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which leaves a parent with no benchmark against which to judge a physics quote.

You can test the tutor before paying

Eight questions, ten minutes, no cost: which guide, the four investigation criteria, a question marked live with the withheld mark explained, and what will not be done with the investigation. A specialist rate should survive that, and a rate that cannot is not a specialist rate.

Algebra diagnosed separately from physics

Most lost marks in Dubai physics scripts have no physics in them. Twenty timed manipulation items identify it in one session, and the fix is short frequent drilling that can be bought at the lower band. Selling Diploma content at the specialist band to a student with an algebra gap is the common error.

Investigation criteria named with their marks

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each, named in every piece of feedback. A fifth of the grade is awarded here without time pressure, and no competing page found in this market names a single one of the four.

The travel premium separated out

In-home rates in this market run AED 180-500 an hour against AED 150-300 online for comparable work, and the gap is a commute. For Higher Level physics specifically, restricting the tutor pool to driving distance is the decision most likely to reduce the quality of the hour.

What not to buy is named

Completed investigations, grade promises, unevidenced examiner claims and self-asserted star ratings all carry prices in this market. Naming them is more useful to a family comparing quotes than another paragraph about teaching philosophy.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB physics tutor in Dubai cost per hour?+

Published rates in this market, read in October 2026, put a qualified online subject tutor at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors listing IB tuition from AED 200 and TutorChase quoting AED 270 for specialist work. The Bestimate survey places IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above, and premium named listings reach AED 650 at BartyED. Budget online provision starts at AED 33-52 at Tutopiya and AED 45-65 at EdFlik. Physics prices toward the upper end because Higher Level supply is thin in this emirate, and demand concentrates in the same weeks each year.

How do I check an IB physics tutor is worth a specialist rate?+

Ask four content questions and four process questions, which takes about ten minutes. Which subject guide do you teach to and what changed in it? What are the four criteria of the scientific investigation and what is each worth? Mark this structured question in front of me and explain the withheld mark. How would you tell whether this student's problem is physics or algebra? Then: how will I see each session, what gets set and marked between them, what will you not do with the investigation, and what if you conclude we are buying the wrong thing?

Why does my child understand physics but still lose marks in IB papers?+

Usually because the lost marks are not physics marks. Rearranging an equation with the unknown in a denominator, handling powers of ten, converting units before substituting rather than after, linearising a relationship so a gradient carries meaning, and solving simultaneous equations from a circuit are all mathematical operations, and a student slow or inaccurate on them scores below their physical understanding on every paper. Twenty timed manipulation items with no physical context diagnose it in one session. The fix is short high-frequency drilling with no physics in it, which is the cheapest useful purchase in the subject.

What are the four criteria of the IB physics investigation?+

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each carrying six marks for a total of 24, with the component worth 20 per cent of the subject grade. The report has a 3,000-word ceiling and around ten hours of class time is allocated to it. Research design rewards a focused question with a genuinely variable independent quantity and properly controlled variables. Data analysis rewards correct processing, graphing and uncertainty treatment. Conclusion rewards a reading of the results related to accepted physics. Evaluation rewards identifying which source of uncertainty actually dominated, not a generic list of improvements.

What makes a physics investigation research question fail?+

Most commonly, an independent variable with too few usable values. A question that permits two or three settings cannot produce a graph, and without a graph the data analysis criterion has little to assess, which caps the piece regardless of how well it is written. The second failure is apparatus: a question requiring equipment the school does not hold fails for reasons unconnected to the student's physics. Both are detectable in a single session before any data is collected, which is why feasibility work is the highest-value hour in the whole process.

What extra content does IB Physics Higher Level actually add?+

It carries substantially more content and longer papers, and the extension is concentrated in fields and gravitation, electromagnetic induction and capacitance, and the depth of quantum and nuclear material. All of those lean harder on mathematics than the shared content does, which is why the mathematical demand rather than conceptual difficulty is the real differentiator. Decide the level from a marked paper: losses concentrated in named topics indicate a content problem that teaching addresses, while losses spread evenly across every topic and question type usually indicate that the level is the issue.

Which IB physics component should a Dubai student prioritise?+

Paper 2 first, at 44 per cent, because it is the largest single component and because the marks lost there are usually to command-term misreading and multi-step slips rather than to unknown content, both of which respond quickly to marking. The data-based section of Paper 1 is second and the most commonly neglected: gradients, uncertainties and recognising which quantity a plotted line represents. Students who revise by drilling multiple-choice questions never touch it. The investigation sits alongside both as a fifth of the grade available without time pressure.

Do IB physics tutors in Dubai cover both Standard and Higher Level content?+

Ask rather than assume, and ask about Higher Level specifically. The additional Higher Level material in fields, induction, capacitance and quantum physics is where tutoring supply in this emirate thins out, and a tutor comfortable with Standard Level may be working at the edge of their range on Higher Level fields questions. A useful test is to put a Higher Level question on a shared screen during the trial and watch it worked aloud. The answer should be fluent rather than reconstructed, and the difference is visible within a minute.

How many physics tutoring hours does a Dubai Diploma student need?+

It depends entirely on what the diagnostic shows, and the honest answer is usually a small number aimed precisely. An algebra gap is ten to twelve short sessions of drilling at the lower band. Investigation feasibility and draft review is three or four sessions. Paper 2 command-term discipline is six to eight sessions of marking-led work. A genuine content gap across several Higher Level topics is a term of weekly sessions. Buying a year of undifferentiated weekly content review before the diagnostic is how a family spends at the specialist band and sees no mark movement.

Is online physics tuition a problem when the subject has practical work?+

The practical work happens in the school laboratory either way, so the question is what support the practical work needs. Investigation coaching is design, uncertainty treatment and draft review, all of which happen on documents and graphs rather than at a bench, and all of which work better on a shared screen where annotations are saved. What online delivery cannot do is stand next to a student while they take a reading. What it can do is make sure the reading they plan to take will produce data the criteria can reward.

Is a home physics tutor in Dubai better value than online?+

The published numbers run one way. The Bestimate survey puts qualified in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for comparable work online, and the premium rises with distance from the central tutoring clusters. The premium pays for a commute. For Higher Level physics there is a second consideration: the specialist pool in this emirate is small, and restricting it to driving distance reduces it further. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; that is an India-only service.

Where exactly is the line on physics investigation support in Dubai?+

Within a boundary that should be agreed before the first session. A tutor may teach experimental design, question whether a research question can generate usable data, teach uncertainty treatment and propagation, name the four criteria and their six marks each, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not design the experiment, supply data, or write any part of the report. Work that is not the student's own produces a malpractice finding against the student rather than the provider. One UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750.

What did my child miss by coming to IB physics from IGCSE?+

Independent experimental design, mostly. IGCSE physics builds fluency at structured written questions and, in the Cambridge 0625 case, experience of an alternative-to-practical paper where the method is supplied and the student interprets it. Diploma physics asks the student to construct the method themselves, choose the variables, plan the uncertainty treatment and defend the design. Edexcel 4PH1 students arrive with practical skills assessed inside the written papers rather than separately, which is a different starting point again. Either way the gap is design rather than content, and it shows up first in the investigation.

Do physics tutors working with Dubai students need a UAE permit?+

Yes. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Applications go through MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, with a stated two-working-day completion time. Because the permit is free, no provider can justify a charge on the basis of licensing costs. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

What if no Higher Level physics specialist is free when we need one in Dubai?+

You should be told that plainly, with the options named rather than a general science tutor quietly substituted. Higher Level physics is among the scarcest subjects in this emirate and demand concentrates in the same weeks of the final year. The honest choices are a wait with a date attached, a tutor based outside the UAE delivering on the same live video platform and on Gulf Standard Time, or a referral elsewhere. A specialist rate charged for someone who has not taught Higher Level fields or induction is the thing to refuse. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit.

Test the hour before you buy forty of them

Physics prices at the top of the Dubai market because Higher Level supply is thin, and a family paying at that band should be able to verify what they are getting. Run the eight questions. Watch a structured question marked with the withheld mark explained. Run the twenty-item algebra diagnostic, because that one result often changes the whole plan and its cost. Send the level, the component and whether the investigation is in scope, take the free 30-minute trial lesson, and ask for a plan with a stated hour count so you can hold it against the published bands above.
