Edexcel IGCSE Science Double Award 4SD0 Tutor in Dubai

An Edexcel IGCSE Science Double Award 4SD0 tutor in Dubai is usually quoted somewhere between AED 150 and AED 450 an hour, and that spread is not random. It tracks the tutor's tier, whether the hour includes a drive, and which of the three papers you are actually buying. This page publishes the bands, names who published each one, and shows the five variables that move the number before you agree to anything. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every AED figure on this page names the source that published it
  • One lead tutor covers all three 4SD0 papers, not three separate bookings
  • A free trial lesson is used as a diagnostic before any plan is priced
  • Live video in Gulf Standard Time, with no travel loaded onto your hour

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What a 4SD0 tutor costs in Dubai, and what that price is actually attached to

Start with the number, because that is why you are here. Across Dubai, International GCSE science tuition is advertised from roughly AED 45 an hour at the university-student end up to AED 650 at the named-examiner end. EdFlik publishes rates from AED 45 to AED 65. Tutopiya lists sessions from AED 33 to AED 52. Unitors quotes International GCSE tuition from AED 150. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED quotes AED 650. Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to AED 350, and specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Those are their published figures, not ours, and the range is wide enough that an hourly rate on its own tells a parent almost nothing useful.

What the rate is attached to matters more than the rate itself. Science Double Award, Pearson code 4SD0, is a single qualification assessed by three written papers covering biology, chemistry and physics, and it reports two International GCSE grades on the 9 to 1 scale. Parents who read that as three subjects go looking for three tutors and get quoted three times over. It is one timetable problem. In most cases one tutor holding all three papers is both cheaper and more useful than three specialists who each see a third of the picture and none of whom owns the revision plan.

The second thing the price attaches to is diagnosis. A quote given before anyone has read a marked script is a guess wearing the clothes of a plan. Two students sitting on the same grade 5 can need entirely different work. One is losing marks on chemistry calculations and needs real teaching hours. The other knows the biology perfectly and is giving away explanation marks on answer order, which is a two-to-four-session fix. The first student's year costs several times the second's. Any provider quoting a package before seeing evidence is pricing the average student, and your child is not the average student.

Dubai's own school market is the third variable, and this one is specific to the emirate. KHDA inspects 227 private schools serving 387,441 students across seventeen curricula, with UK-curriculum schools accounting for 37 per cent of enrolment, the largest single block in the city. That depth means a wide local pool of teachers who know Pearson International GCSE science well, which keeps the qualified-tutor tier genuinely competitive on price. It also means Year 11 demand arrives in one concentrated wave each spring, and the tutors with the strongest chemistry reputations are committed by January.

The fourth and fifth variables are format and timing, and they are the two you control outright. Online one-to-one strips out the travel component that in-home rates exist to recover, and it widens the pool from whoever lives within a sensible drive of your community to whoever is genuinely strongest on the chemistry paper. Timing is the other lever. The same tutor booked in September of Year 10 costs less per mark gained than the same tutor booked in March of Year 11, because the work available in September is teaching and the work available in March is triage.

IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one online tuition over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the Dubai school day. Home visits are an India-only service and are not sold anywhere in the UAE. Everything below is written so you can price this job yourself: the variables that move a quote, what the market charges by provider model, the exam-cycle costs that are not the tutor at all, and the five questions that make two Dubai quotes genuinely comparable.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Science Double Award sits inside a decision chain that starts in Year 9 and does not finish until a Year 12 subject choice is signed off. Each stage below has a different cost profile, and knowing which stage your child is in tells you whether you are buying teaching hours, marks-recovery hours, or a single conversation about route choice.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Choosing science at the end of Year 9

The cheapest intervention available in the whole chain, and the one almost nobody buys. A single session reading the Year 9 science reports against the Double Award and separate-science routes can save a family a year of unnecessary tuition. The question is not which route is harder. It is which route matches how your child's marks currently split across biology, chemistry and physics, and what they intend to study after 16.

Dubai British-curriculum schools typically ask for option choices between January and March of Year 9, with places on separate sciences capped by laboratory and timetable capacity rather than by ambition. If the school has already allocated your child to Double Award, that is a timetable fact to plan around, not a verdict on ability, and it does not close a science A Level route by itself.

4SD0Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Science Double Award (4SD0)

Three written papers, one each in biology, chemistry and physics, each worth about a third of the whole, reported as two International GCSE grades. There is no coursework component and no separately examined practical, so experimental skill is tested through descriptions of experiments on the page. For costing purposes, treat it as one subject with three revision streams rather than as three subjects with one tutor.

In Dubai this is the most common science route for students who intend to carry one science, not three, into Year 12. It is the route that lets a student protect timetable room for a strong humanities or business subject, which matters in a city where business and engineering degrees pull most of the post-16 traffic.

SINGLESAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Separate sciences: 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1

Three distinct qualifications, three sets of papers, three reported grades. Content goes deeper than the Double Award equivalent in each science, and the tuition bill behaves accordingly, because a weak strand cannot be carried by the other two. Families comparing routes on cost alone should compare total tuition hours across two years, not hourly rates, since the separate route tends to need more of them.

Dubai schools running the Pearson separate sciences often set an internal attainment threshold in Year 9 before allowing all three. A student moving from Double Award into a single award mid-Year 10 is the scenario where tuition cost spikes, because the gap is content, not technique, and content takes contact hours.

RESITAges 16+ · after a summer result

November resit and private-candidate entry

Pearson International GCSE subjects are examined in a May or June series and again in November each year, so a disappointing summer grade is not a year lost. A resit plan is a short, specific, paper-level piece of work rather than a fresh two-year course, and it should be priced that way: a block of sessions aimed at the weakest paper, not a general science course repeated.

A student no longer enrolled at a Dubai school sits as a private candidate through a centre that accepts external entries, and the centre sets both its own entry fee and its own registration cut-off. Confirm that cut-off before buying tuition hours, because the entry deadline, not the exam date, is what fixes your calendar.

POST16Ages 16-18 · Years 12-13

What a Double Award opens after 16

Two science grades from 4SD0 are accepted for many A Level and IB Diploma science entries, though individual schools set their own thresholds and some ask for a separate science for a Higher Level or A Level course in that discipline. This is a conversation to have with the sixth-form admissions lead in Year 11 autumn, not in results week, and it costs nothing but an email.

Dubai sixth forms split sharply between A Level and IB Diploma, and the two read a Double Award differently. Ask the specific school what it accepts, in writing, before paying for tuition aimed at a grade threshold that may not be the threshold that applies to your child's intended course.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost follows the strand, not the subject label. The list below prices the work rather than the content: which parts of 4SD0 absorb real teaching hours, which parts respond to a short technique block, and which neighbouring Pearson subjects a family usually ends up buying alongside it.

Biology strand within 4SD0

Double Award

Usually the least expensive strand to support. The content is largely factual, so marks go missing on writing rather than on understanding, and explanation questions wanting a mechanism in sequence are the main leak. A short technique block on answer order typically moves this paper further than a term of content teaching would.

Chemistry strand within 4SD0

Double Award

The strand that justifies paid hours. Moles, equation balancing, reacting masses and concentration calculations are sequential: a gap three steps back makes the visible question unanswerable. This is where a specialist block earns its rate, and where buying the cheapest available hour reliably costs more over a year.

Physics strand within 4SD0

Double Award

Priced between the other two. The physics content is narrower than a separate 4PH1 course, but the marks depend on unit handling, equation rearrangement and reading values off a graph accurately. Numeracy work bought for this paper usually pays a second time on the chemistry calculations.

Experimental skills across the three papers

Double Award

Assessed inside the written papers rather than in a separate practical, which removes a cost line that families expect to see. The marks hang on identifying independent and dependent variables, spotting what was controlled, and writing a conclusion that refers to the data rather than to the theory.

Separate Biology (4BI1)

International GCSE

The route for a student aiming at medicine, dentistry or biomedical science. Deeper content than the Double Award biology strand, and the tuition profile shifts from technique to content coverage, which means more hours at the same rate rather than a higher rate.

Separate Chemistry (4CH1)

International GCSE

The most common upgrade request from Double Award families, and the most expensive one to execute mid-course. Organic chemistry and quantitative work carry the extra load. Budget a content block rather than weekly maintenance if the switch happens after Year 10 has started.

Separate Physics (4PH1)

International GCSE

Mathematically the heaviest of the three separate sciences at this level. Students who cope well with the 4SD0 physics strand sometimes still struggle here, because the algebra density rises. A joint physics and Mathematics A plan is usually better value than two unconnected bookings.

Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation and Higher tier

The subject that quietly determines the 4SD0 chemistry and physics grades. Rearranging formulae, ratio, standard form and percentage change appear in both. Families often buy science tuition when the actual blockage is the maths underneath it, which is a cheaper problem to fix.

English Language A (4EA1)

International GCSE

Relevant to a science grade more than parents expect. Extended explanation answers in 4SD0 are marked on whether the reasoning is legible, and a student who writes loosely in English writes loosely in biology. A shared booking across both subjects is common in Dubai.

Arabic as an additional language

KHDA mandatory subject

Runs alongside the Pearson curriculum rather than inside it. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed international curriculum, and the weekly hours they take are part of the time budget any science plan has to fit around.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families structure 4SD0 support, with the cost logic of each stated plainly. The right one depends on what the diagnostic finds, not on what sounds most thorough, and the most expensive option is rarely the one that moves a grade fastest.

One science tutor, one hour a week

The default for a student in Year 10 or early Year 11 whose three strands are uneven but none is in trouble. A single tutor carries all three papers, rotates according to what the school is teaching, and holds the revision calendar. It is the lowest-cost structure that still produces continuity, and it is the only structure where one person can see that a physics problem is actually a maths problem.

  • One booking, one rate, three papers covered
  • Rotation follows the school scheme of work, not a fixed order
  • Cheapest route to continuity across a two-year course
  • Weekly cadence suits content that is still being taught

A paper-specific block of six

Bought when the diagnostic names one paper. Six sessions on chemistry calculations, or on biology explanation structure, with a re-test at the end. The block has a defined endpoint and a defined cost, which makes it the easiest structure to evaluate. Families who have already paid for a term of general science tuition without movement usually get more from this than from extending that term.

  • Defined scope, defined session count, defined spend
  • Ends with a timed paper under exam conditions
  • Suits a known weakness rather than a general wobble
  • Can be repeated on a second paper if the re-test justifies it

Pre-series and pre-mock intensives

A short concentrated run before a mock window or an exam series, built around timed papers and the marking of them. It is the highest cost per week and the lowest cost per outcome when the content is genuinely known and the marks are being lost to timing, question reading and answer order. It is the wrong purchase when content gaps remain, because intensity does not teach moles.

  • Two or three sessions a week for three to five weeks
  • Every session built on a timed paper the student has already sat
  • Priced as a block so the total is known in advance
  • Not appropriate while content gaps are still open

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

The five variables that move a 4SD0 quote in Dubai

  • Ask which tier the quoted tutor sits in, and what the next tier up costs
  • Ask whether the rate assumes travel, and what the online rate is
  • Ask which paper the first six hours will target, and why
  • Ask what the same plan costs if you start a term earlier

An hourly rate quoted without context is not information. The same tutor, the same subject and the same child can produce quotes a hundred dirhams apart depending on five things, and four of the five are visible to you before you commit. The table below sets out each variable, which direction it pushes the rate, roughly how far, and why the mechanism works that way in this emirate specifically rather than in general.

Read the table as a checklist for the first phone call. If a provider cannot tell you which tier their tutor sits in, whether the rate assumes travel, which paper the hours will target, and what changes if you book in September rather than March, the quote is not comparable with anyone else's. Three of those four answers should take under a minute to give.

The one variable that is not in your control is the timing of the emirate-wide demand wave. Dubai Year 11 cohorts sit the same series, so the whole city wants a chemistry specialist in the same eight weeks. That is a supply fact, not a sales tactic, and the only defence against it is booking earlier than the wave.

Note what is missing from the table: a line for the tutor's nationality, a line for the number of years they have taught, and a line for a brand name. None of those three reliably predicts movement on a 4SD0 paper. What predicts movement is whether the person has marked work at this level recently and can tell you, from a script, where the marks went.

02

Why Dubai's school sector is the reason the rate card looks like this

Tuition prices in a city are a function of how many qualified people live there and how many families want them at once. Dubai's numbers are published, which makes this calculable rather than anecdotal. KHDA reported 387,441 students in 227 private schools for 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with UK-curriculum schools taking 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian curricula 26 per cent, US 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate 7 per cent.

That UK-curriculum share is the single most useful figure for a parent costing International GCSE science. It means the supply of teachers who have actually taught and marked Pearson science at this level is large by regional standards, and a large supply holds the qualified tier near the AED 150 to AED 300 band rather than pushing every competent tutor into premium pricing. In a smaller market the same tutor would cost more because there would be fewer of them.

The sector is still growing, which matters for next year's prices rather than this year's. KHDA reported six new private schools opening during 2025-26 with enrolment up 6 per cent, and a further seven schools for 2026-27, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, adding 16,846 places. More UK-curriculum places means more International GCSE candidates and more competing demand in the same spring window.

On the household side, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai do not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. That is a genuine input to a tutoring budget conversation: for one year, the school line in your education spending is flat, which is the cleanest opportunity most families get to fund a targeted block of science support without increasing the total.

03

Online, in-home and group tuition, costed for a Dubai household

The home-tutor question deserves a straight answer rather than a sales position. In-home one-to-one tuition in Dubai is a real service with real advantages: a younger child stays in a familiar setting, a parent can observe, and nobody has to manage a screen. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts it at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500, and monthly in-home packages seen at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions.

Those numbers include something invisible: the drive. A tutor who spends seventy minutes on the road to deliver a sixty-minute lesson in Arabian Ranches has to recover that time somewhere, and it is recovered in the rate, in a two-hour minimum, or in a tighter geographic radius that shrinks your choice of tutor. None of those three is dishonest. They are simply what travel costs in a city this size.

IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For a Dubai family the practical consequence is that the pool is not limited to people who can reach your community on a weekday afternoon. If the diagnostic says the chemistry strand is the problem, the hour goes to whoever is strongest on that paper rather than to whoever is nearest, and the travel premium stays in your pocket.

Group classes at a tuition centre are the genuine low-cost option and should not be dismissed. They work when a student needs content delivered again at a steady pace and is capable of asking questions in a room. They work badly for a 4SD0 student whose three strands are uneven, because a group moves at one speed through one paper and your child is losing marks in a different one.

The costs that are not the tutor: entries, resits and the Pearson calendar

Two line items surprise Dubai families every year, and neither is a tuition cost. The first is the entry itself, which a school ordinarily handles and absorbs into fees for enrolled students, and which a private candidate pays directly to a centre that accepts external entries. The second is the resit, which is cheap in tuition terms and expensive in calendar terms, because the entry deadline sits months before the paper.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE subjects are examined in a May or June series and again in November each year. For the November 2026 series, the final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are Pearson's published dates, and they are the skeleton any 4SD0 plan hangs on.

Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the one for next year's November series, and revises them more than once. The practical rule is to work from the live official timetable on the Pearson support site rather than from a date printed on any tutoring page, including this one. Your school's exams officer has the authoritative version for your child's centre and will give it to you if asked.

Count backwards from the table below and the spending pattern becomes obvious. Tuition bought in the eight weeks before a series is buying exam technique at peak demand. Tuition bought two terms earlier is buying content at ordinary prices, and it is the content that determines whether the technique has anything to work with.

Measuring 4SD0 tuition against the Dubai school fee line

Tutoring spend only makes sense next to the other education numbers in a household. For Dubai families the dominant one is school fees, and for 2026-27 that number is unusually stable: KHDA confirmed no increase for the coming academic year. A flat school line is the context in which a science support decision should be taken, because it is the one year where adding a block does not compound with an annual fee rise.

The table below is a planning frame rather than a price list. IB Gram does not publish an hourly rate on these pages, and any figure attached to our name here would be an invention. What the table does is convert published market bands into the shapes families actually buy, so that a quote can be sanity-checked against a pattern rather than against a feeling.

The important column is the third one. One session a week for a school year is roughly thirty-two to thirty-six sessions, and at the qualified tier that is a four-figure monthly commitment maintained for most of a year. A six-session diagnostic block costs a fraction of that and answers the question the year-long plan assumes it already knows. Buying the block first is the cheaper sequence in almost every case.

Bestimate's own monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Those bands are the sanity check: a quote well outside them in either direction deserves a specific explanation before you accept it.

What the private tuition permit does and does not add to the price

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and parents are entitled to ask about it without embarrassment. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Because the permit costs nothing, no part of a quoted rate is a permit fee, and any provider presenting one is describing something else. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. That is the official route, and it is the page to check rather than any summary of it.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount can responsibly be quoted, and a figure circulating online is not a figure you should treat as real. What you can do is ask the question directly and note how the answer arrives.

There is one boundary worth knowing in advance. A teacher at your child's own school tutoring your child privately sits against the professional-ethics rules and the permit's code of conduct, which bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's rules for private and charter school staff are explicit on this. Treat an offer of paid tuition from your child's own class teacher as a problem to avoid rather than an opportunity, whichever emirate you are in. Separately, a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute; IB Gram holds no such permit and operates no UAE premises.

Spending where the marks are: a 4SD0 diagnostic in four questions

  • Pull the strand-level marks, not just the reported grade
  • Read one marked script against the mark scheme before buying anything
  • Test whether the dropped marks are science or arithmetic
  • Ask the school what free support already exists this term

Before buying any hours, four questions answered from evidence will tell you more than three consultations. Each one needs a document rather than an opinion, and all four documents already exist somewhere in your child's school bag or portal. This is the cheapest half-hour available in the whole process and almost nobody spends it.

First, how do the three strand marks actually split? A Double Award grade reported as two grades hides the internal distribution. School assessment data usually shows it. A student at grade 5 overall who sits at 7, 5 and 3 across the three papers has a completely different purchase to make than a student who sits at 5, 5 and 5, and the first student's plan is both shorter and cheaper.

Second, on the weakest paper, where did the marks go? Read one marked script with the mark scheme beside it. Marks lost on the final part of multi-step calculations point to content. Marks lost on explanation questions where the facts are all present point to answer order. Marks lost at the end of the paper point to timing. Those three findings buy three different products at three different prices.

Third, is the blockage actually maths? Take the chemistry and physics questions your child dropped and strip the science out of them. If what remains is rearranging a formula, handling a ratio, or converting units, the money belongs in Mathematics A, not in science. Fourth, what has the school already offered? Departmental clinics, revision sessions and past-paper packs are included in fees you have already paid, and a tutor should ask about them in the first conversation rather than the fifth.

08

What a tutor may and may not be paid to do on this qualification

4SD0 has no coursework component, which removes the most common integrity problem in international qualifications. It does not remove all of them. A student still submits homework, mock responses and internal assessments that a school uses to set predicted grades, and those must be the student's own work. A tutor teaches, questions, reviews and gives feedback. A tutor does not supply answers for submission under a student's name.

The practical line is about sequence. A tutor who reads a student's attempt, marks it, explains why a mark was lost and sets a comparable question is doing the job. Someone who hands over a model response for a piece of work that will be submitted is not teaching, and the exposure lands on the student rather than on them. This distinction is worth stating to any provider you speak to, and worth noticing in how they answer.

The second boundary is material. Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Pearson. They are referenced and linked, not reproduced or distributed as downloads by a tutoring service. Any provider offering a bundle of papers as a selling point is describing something they are not entitled to supply, and that is a reasonable reason to be cautious about everything else they say.

The third is credentials. Nobody at IB Gram is described as a Pearson examiner unless current examiner status can be evidenced, and examiner status is never presented as access to marking, boundaries or unreleased paper content. IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from Pearson, Edexcel, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education, and no page on this site should be read as implying otherwise.

Five questions that make two Dubai quotes comparable

  • What is included beyond the hour, and who does the marking?
  • What does the written output after a session actually look like?
  • What is the replacement policy, and what conditions attach to the trial?
  • Is there a defined stopping point and a re-test?
  • What happens if the real weakness turns out to be Mathematics A?

Most parents ring three providers, hear three hourly rates and pick in the middle. The rates are not comparable, because they describe different products. Five questions turn three numbers into three like-for-like offers, and all five can be asked in one call.

Ask what is included beyond the lesson hour. Marking of a timed paper takes real time, and a provider who includes it has priced it in somewhere. Ask who marks it and what you receive afterwards. A written note naming the marks lost and the next piece of work is a different product from a verbal summary at the end of a call, and the difference shows up in whether anything changes by week four.

Ask what happens if the match is wrong. A clear replacement policy costs the provider something and is therefore a signal. Ask whether the trial is genuinely free and what condition attaches to it, because a conditional free trial that is not described as conditional is the first thing to distrust. Ask what the exit looks like after one month, in writing.

Ask for a plan with a stopping point. Six sessions and a re-test, with a decision at the end about whether to continue, is a proposal you can evaluate. An open-ended weekly commitment is a subscription. Finally, ask what the provider will do about the maths if the diagnostic says the science is not the problem. The honest answer involves sending you somewhere else for part of the work, and a provider who can say that is the one worth booking.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Where a family lives in Dubai changes the logistics of a tuition plan rather than the syllabus. The notes below are about session timing, school-run patterns and local demand, because those are the things that decide whether a 16:00 slot is realistic and whether an in-home rate is worth its premium in your community.

Arabian Ranches

Villa community with a long school-run tail. Families here commonly book from 16:30 onward, after the second drop-off wave. An in-home tutor crossing from Deira or Bur Dubai prices the return leg into the hour, which is exactly the component an online slot removes.

Dubai Hills Estate

Dense in British-curriculum families and short of weekday evening availability, because the local demand wave is concentrated. Online booking widens the pool beyond tutors already committed in this postcode, which matters most for the chemistry strand.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Apartment-heavy, with students travelling out to schools in Al Barsha and Dubai Hills. The commute eats the window between 15:00 and 16:30, so sessions here tend to settle at 17:00 or later, and weekend mornings carry more of the plan than they do in villa districts.

Mirdif

Established family district feeding several large British-curriculum schools. Year 11 demand here peaks early in the spring term, which is the practical argument for booking science support in the autumn rather than after the mocks are returned.

Al Barsha

School-dense, which means traffic rather than convenience between 13:30 and 16:00. A tutor who would spend forty minutes each way reaching a Barsha address is charging for seventy minutes of road time inside a sixty-minute lesson fee.

Dubai Marina

Apartment living with limited quiet study space during family evenings. Shorter, more frequent online sessions tend to work better here than a single long block, and the saving on travel usually funds the extra contact point.

The Springs and The Meadows

Short internal commutes but a narrow pool of locally resident science specialists. Families here are the clearest beneficiaries of a wider online pool, because the constraint is specialist availability rather than distance.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Mixed school catchment with high demand for exam-series intensives. Pre-mock blocks book out here first, so the November and spring windows need to be reserved a term ahead if a specific tutor matters to you.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai Hills, Al Barsha and Umm Suqeim

A cluster of large British-curriculum secondaries where Pearson and Cambridge International GCSE entries sit side by side, sometimes within the same science department. Students we support in this cluster most often arrive with a chemistry-strand problem and a Year 11 mock result that has just landed.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai College
  • Safa British School

Arabian Ranches, Mirdif and Dubai Silicon Oasis

Villa-belt and eastern Dubai schools with large Year 11 cohorts and a strong separate-science tradition in some departments. The route conversation here is often about moving between Double Award and a single award, which is a cost question as much as an academic one.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Repton School Dubai
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Schools are named here as context for the Dubai education landscape only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the strand marks and one marked script

Share the latest school report, the strand-level breakdown across biology, chemistry and physics if the school publishes it, and one marked 4SD0 response. Three documents are enough to tell whether the problem is content, technique or the maths underneath, and they cost nothing to send.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson used as a diagnostic

The trial is a working session, not a sales call. The tutor sets questions from the weakest paper, watches how the student approaches them, and writes down where the marks are going. The output is a short written finding you keep whether or not you continue.

  3. 03

A written plan with the cost attached

You receive a plan that names the target paper, the number of sessions, what each session covers and what the total comes to before anything is booked. If the finding is that school support or a maths intervention is the better first step, the plan says that instead.

  4. 04

Sessions at the intensity the evidence supports

Weekly where content is still being taught, blocked where a single paper needs rebuilding, intensive only when content is secure and marks are being lost to timing. Slots are set in Gulf Standard Time around the Dubai school day and the family's actual evenings.

  5. 05

    A re-test and a spending decision

At the end of a block the student sits a timed paper under exam conditions and it is marked against the published criteria. You then decide whether to continue, switch paper, or stop. The decision is based on a marked script, not on a progress adjective.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every dirham figure here names its source

Each AED band on this page is attributed to the company or rate table that published it, with no figure presented as IB Gram's own price. A parent comparing quotes can check the originals rather than take ours on trust.

One tutor across three papers

4SD0 is one qualification. A single lead tutor holding biology, chemistry and physics sees that the physics problem is a rearrangement problem and the biology problem is a writing problem, which three separate bookings structurally cannot.

The quote comes after the diagnostic, not before

Pricing a plan before reading a marked script prices the average student. The free trial is used to find where the marks are actually going, and the written plan and its cost follow that finding rather than preceding it.

Free school support gets named first

Departmental clinics, revision sessions and past-paper packs are already inside fees you pay. A plan that ignores them is overcharging you by omission, so the first conversation asks what the school already provides this term.

A stated line around the student's own work

Tutors teach, mark and give feedback on work the student has produced. No response is supplied for submission under a student's name, and no Pearson papers or mark schemes are distributed as downloads.

A plan you can stop

Blocks have a defined session count, a defined cost and a re-test at the end, so continuing is a decision rather than a default. Delivery is online one-to-one over live video, with no travel premium inside the rate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What should I expect to pay for Edexcel IGCSE Science Double Award 4SD0 tuition in Dubai?+

Published Dubai rates for International GCSE science run from about AED 45 an hour at the university-student tier up to AED 650 at the named-examiner tier. EdFlik publishes AED 45 to AED 65, Tutopiya AED 33 to AED 52, Unitors from AED 150, TutorChase AED 270 and BartyED AED 650. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home visits at AED 180 to AED 350 and specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Most families with a specific 4SD0 paper problem land in the AED 150 to AED 300 online band. IB Gram quotes after a diagnostic rather than publishing a rate card.

Why do two Dubai tutors quote such different rates for the same 4SD0 paper?+

Because they are selling different products under the same name. The gap between AED 60 and AED 300 an hour usually reflects whether the person has marked work at this level recently, whether the rate includes marking a timed paper and writing up what it showed, and whether travel is inside the fee. A student-tier hour supervises practice. A qualified-tier hour diagnoses a mark loss and fixes it. Both are legitimate purchases for different problems, but a parent comparing only the number is comparing a lesson with a lesson plus marking plus a written finding.

Is 4SD0 cheaper to support than taking separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics?+

Usually, yes, and the saving is in hours rather than in the hourly rate. Double Award covers less content per science than the separate 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 courses, and one tutor can hold all three papers because they belong to one qualification. The separate route cannot carry a weak strand on the strength of the other two, so a gap there has to be closed with contact hours. Compare total tuition hours across two years rather than rates per hour, which is where the real difference between the two routes shows up.

Does an online 4SD0 hour cost less than a visiting tutor's hour in Dubai?+

On published rates, yes. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500, while Unitors lists online International GCSE tuition from AED 150. The difference is largely the drive: a tutor crossing Dubai in school-run traffic recovers that time in the rate, in a two-hour minimum, or in a smaller service radius. IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE, so the pool is not limited by distance and the hour goes to whoever is strongest on the paper you need.

Which of the three 4SD0 papers usually needs the most paid hours?+

Chemistry, in most cases. Moles, equation balancing, reacting masses and concentration work are sequential, so a gap three steps earlier makes the visible question impossible and no amount of practice on the visible question helps. That takes real teaching time. The biology strand is often the opposite: the content is known and the marks are lost on explanation order, which a short technique block can move. Physics sits between them, and physics work frequently improves the chemistry calculations as a side effect because the underlying numeracy is shared.

How many hours of 4SD0 tuition does a Dubai Year 11 student typically end up buying?+

It depends entirely on what the diagnostic finds, which is why a credible provider will not answer this before seeing a script. A technique problem on one paper is commonly six sessions and a re-test. A content gap in the chemistry strand is a term of weekly work. A student uneven across all three strands in the spring of Year 11 is a different and larger purchase. The cheapest sequence is almost always to buy a defined six-session block first and let its re-test decide whether a longer commitment is justified.

Is there a practical exam in 4SD0 that we need to budget extra sessions for?+

No. Science Double Award has no coursework component and no separately examined practical, so there is no additional assessment to prepare or pay for. Experimental skill is tested inside the three written papers, through questions that describe an experiment and ask the student to identify variables, spot what was controlled, read data and write a conclusion grounded in that data rather than in the theory. Those marks are learnable in ordinary sessions, and they are a common quiet loss for students who revise content and never practise the experiment questions.

Do science tuition rates in Dubai rise as the exam series gets closer?+

Effective prices rise even where advertised rates do not, because availability collapses. Dubai Year 11 cohorts sit the same series, so demand for chemistry specialists concentrates into the same eight weeks and the tutors with the strongest reputations are committed by January. What a family then pays is a higher rate, a less experienced tutor, or an awkward slot. Booking in the autumn buys content teaching at ordinary prices; booking in March buys triage at scarcity prices. The lever is the calendar, not the negotiation.

Are monthly packages better value than paying per hour for science tuition in Dubai?+

They can be, and the thing to examine is not the headline saving but the terms. Market packages seen in Dubai include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. A package is good value when the cadence is genuinely what the plan needs and the slot is held for you. It is poor value when it locks in a frequency a diagnostic has not justified, or when unused sessions expire. Ask what happens to a missed session in writing before committing.

Does the KHDA fee freeze for 2026-27 change what we can spend on tutoring?+

It changes the arithmetic rather than the advice. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private-school fees in Dubai do not rise for 2026-27, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For one academic year the largest line in a family's education spending is flat, which is the cleanest window most households get to fund a defined block of science support without raising the total. It is not a reason to buy a year of weekly sessions. It is a reason to buy the diagnostic block you had been postponing.

Do we pay anything towards a tutor's UAE private tuition permit?+

No, because the permit itself is free. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's service page for it lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Any rate component presented to you as a permit or licensing fee is describing something else. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you see quoted online as unverified.

What does it cost to sit 4SD0 again in the November series?+

The tuition part is usually small: a resit is a paper-level repair, not a two-year course repeated, so a defined block aimed at the weakest paper is the normal shape. The entry is the part that needs checking. A student still at a Dubai school ordinarily has entries handled by the school. A student who has left sits as a private candidate through a centre that accepts external entries, and that centre sets both its fee and its registration cut-off. Confirm the cut-off before buying hours, because the deadline fixes your calendar.

Can a small group class bring the per-child cost of 4SD0 down?+

Per student, yes, and that saving is real. What a group cannot split is the diagnosis. A class moves at one pace through one paper, which suits a student who needs content delivered again and can ask questions in a room. It suits a 4SD0 student much less well when the three strands are uneven, because the group will spend its time where the median student needs it rather than where your child is dropping marks. A sensible hybrid is group content work plus a short one-to-one block on the weakest paper.

Will a Double Award count as two subjects for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

4SD0 reports two International GCSE grades, and the published MoE requirement for the British track is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five. How a specific awarding structure is counted is a decision for the Ministry and the attestation authority, not for a tutoring service, so verify your child's case on moe.gov.ae or with the school's registrar. IB Gram does not perform, guarantee or influence equivalency, and tutoring is not required for it.

How do Ramadan hours affect a Dubai science tuition schedule?+

Shortened school days move the whole afternoon, and sessions that normally sit at 16:00 commonly shift later or to post-Iftar timing. Because delivery here is online over live video, that change costs nothing but a calendar edit, and no travel window has to be rebuilt around it. The planning point is content rather than timing: Ramadan often falls close to mock windows, so the sensible move is to finish content teaching before it and use the period for lighter, shorter consolidation work rather than for introducing the chemistry calculations.

Price the job, then book the hour

You now have the published bands, the five variables that move them, the exam-cycle costs that sit outside tuition altogether, and the five questions that make two Dubai quotes comparable. The next step costs nothing: send the strand marks and one marked 4SD0 script, take the free trial as a diagnostic, and read the written finding. If the finding says the chemistry strand needs six sessions, you will have a plan with a number attached. If it says the school's own clinic or a Mathematics A intervention is the better first move, you will be told that instead. Sessions run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.
