Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry 4CH1 Tutor in Dubai

Hiring an Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry 4CH1 tutor in Dubai is a purchase, and purchases should be costed against what they fix. This page prices 4CH1 support by the diagnosis rather than by the hour: a mole-calculation problem, an ionic-equation problem and a late organic chemistry problem absorb very different numbers of hours. Published Dubai market bands are quoted with their sources. Lessons are one to one over live video, with a free thirty-minute diagnostic first and no card details taken.

Costing chemistry help by the problem, not by the hour

An hourly rate tells a family almost nothing on its own. Two students in the same Year 11 chemistry class at the same Dubai school can need four hours and forty hours respectively, and both will be quoted the same rate per hour. The number that actually governs the spend is the hour count, and the hour count comes from the diagnosis. So this page costs 4CH1 by the problem: how many hours a mole-calculation weakness typically absorbs, how many an ionic-equation weakness takes, and why a late start on organic chemistry is the most expensive version of all.

The rate bands themselves are published and worth having in front of you. In Dubai, in October 2026, budget online tutoring advertises from AED 33 to 65 an hour and broadly occupies AED 45 to 150. Qualified subject tutors working online are quoted AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing International GCSE tuition from AED 150. Specialists in IGCSE, IB and A Level sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at around AED 270 and Bestimate's table reaching AED 450 and beyond. In-home one-to-one carries travel and is published at AED 180 to 350, with individual home tutors advertising to AED 500. A named or examiner-badged tutor is quoted at AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED at AED 650.

4CH1 sits naturally in the specialist band rather than the general one, and the reason is structural rather than snobbish. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry is examined through Paper 1C, two hours for 110 marks, and Paper 2C, one hour fifteen minutes for 70 marks, making 180 marks in total with no coursework and no separate practical paper. It is untiered and reported on the 9 to 1 scale. A tutor who has not taught this code will not know which content the specification examines only in Paper 2C, and the first three paid hours become research.

Chemistry also has an unusually clear single point of failure, which makes it easier to cost than most subjects. The mole is the load-bearing idea. Empirical formula, reacting masses, concentration, titration arithmetic, gas volumes and percentage yield all depend on it, and a student who is insecure there will drop marks across the whole of the Principles and Physical sections no matter how much content revision they do. Diagnose that and you can tell a family, honestly, that this is six to eight hours of work rather than a term. Miss it and they pay for a term.

What this page will not do is print an IB Gram price list, because a quote that precedes a look at the marked script is a guess. A specialist reads the student's own marked chemistry in a free thirty-minute session, counts where the marks went, and gives an hour estimate before any money is discussed. No card details are taken for that session. Lessons are delivered one to one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not arrange home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, since home visits are a service offered only in India.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The route a Dubai school has entered your child for changes the cost of chemistry support before any rate is discussed. Three separate sciences, a double award, a November retake and a post-16 continuation imply very different hour counts for the same student.

SINGLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Chemistry 4CH1 as one of three separate sciences

The most common entry in Dubai's British-curriculum schools and the most expensive to support if all three sciences are tutored at once. Chemistry as a single subject is examined in full depth across the four specification sections, which means content gaps are visible and targetable. Most families who stagger subjects by term rather than running them in parallel keep the monthly figure flat and still finish the two years covered.

Check the exam entry statement rather than asking the student. Dubai schools frequently enter Pearson for one science and Cambridge for another, and a family that buys 4CH1 tutoring for a child sitting Cambridge 0620 has bought the wrong specification. The codes appear on the statement the examinations officer issues, and that document is the only reliable source for them.

DOUBLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Science Double Award 4SD0

Worth two International GCSEs across biology, chemistry and physics rather than three separate ones. Cheaper to tutor in total than three single subjects, and harder to target, because a chemistry weakness sits inside a qualification that also carries the other two sciences. Diagnosis takes longer here and the first session often has to establish which science the lost marks actually came from.

Double Award is common in Dubai schools with wide-ability intakes and in schools where students carry a heavier non-science timetable. It is not a soft option, but it does change the equivalency arithmetic: five accredited subjects at no less than grade 3 is the Ministry of Education threshold, and a double award counts as two of them, which some families discover only when applying.

RETAKEAges 16+ · after a summer grade

November series retake

Pearson International GCSE runs in November as well as in May and June, so a summer chemistry grade below what a sixth form requires does not cost a year. A retake block is the most predictable spend in this subject: the previous script already contains the diagnosis, so the hour count can be estimated accurately and the work aimed only at the sections that lost marks.

The November 2026 International GCSE timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, which places preparation in the first term of the Dubai academic year. Not every Dubai centre enters candidates for November, so confirm with the school before planning a block; families whose school does not may need to enter through an approved examination venue as a private candidate instead.

POST-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

International A Level and IB Diploma Chemistry

Where unresolved 4CH1 arithmetic becomes expensive. Both post-16 routes assume fluent mole calculations and both add substantially to the quantitative load, with the IB Diploma also requiring an internal assessment. Families who spend modestly in Year 10 on securing the mole typically spend less at seventeen, because post-16 specialist support sits at the top of the published rate bands.

Dubai had 387,441 private-school students across 227 schools in 2024-25, with 37% on a UK curriculum and 7% in the International Baccalaureate, so most 4CH1 students in the emirate face a genuine choice of route at sixteen. Students aiming at medicine or engineering routes should treat chemistry as a prerequisite subject and plan the Year 10 and Year 11 work accordingly.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The ten content areas below are where 4CH1 marks are won and lost, with an honest note on how many tutoring hours each typically absorbs. Confirm current content against the live specification on qualifications.pearson.com, since Pearson revises specifications between series.

The mole and reacting masses

Section 1: Principles of chemistry

Relative formula mass, moles, empirical formula, reacting mass calculations, percentage yield and percentage composition. The load-bearing skill of the whole qualification and the single most common root cause of a disappointing grade. Typically six to eight hours of drilling to secure, and it pays back across every other section.

Concentration, titration and gas volumes

Section 1 and Section 3

Moles per cubic decimetre, grams per cubic decimetre, titration arithmetic and the molar volume of a gas. Marks here are lost almost entirely to unit handling: cubic centimetres against cubic decimetres, and dividing where a student should multiply. Three to four hours, provided the mole is already secure.

Atomic structure, bonding and structure

Section 1: Principles of chemistry

Electronic configuration, ionic and covalent bonding, giant structures, metallic bonding and the link between structure and physical properties. Explanation marks dominate, and they are lost by describing a structure without connecting it to the property the question asked about. Two to four hours.

Ionic and half equations

Sections 1, 2 and 3

Writing balanced ionic equations, spectator ions, half equations at electrodes and state symbols. A discrete, teachable skill that students routinely leave as a gap because it is never the main point of a lesson. Two to three hours and it recovers marks in electrolysis, acids and redox simultaneously.

Acids, bases, salts and preparation

Section 2: Inorganic chemistry

Neutralisation, salt preparation methods, solubility rules, pH and the practical sequence for making a pure dry sample. The marks sit in method order and in state symbols rather than in theory. Two to three hours, often combined usefully with the practical-technique work.

Electrolysis

Section 2: Inorganic chemistry

Products at each electrode for molten and aqueous electrolytes, half equations, and the reasoning behind which ion is discharged. One of the highest-yield topics to repair because the question style is predictable and the marks are reliably available once half equations are secure. Two to three hours.

Tests for ions and gases

Section 2: Inorganic chemistry

Flame tests, precipitate colours, tests for carbonates, sulfates, halides and ammonium, and the gas tests. Pure recall with a predictable question style, which makes it the cheapest marks on the paper and the most commonly neglected. One to two hours.

Rates, energetics and equilibrium

Section 3: Physical chemistry

Rate experiments and graph interpretation, exothermic and endothermic changes, bond energy calculations, reversible reactions and industrial conditions. Bond energy arithmetic and sign conventions cause most of the loss, and equilibrium explanation questions need a stated direction of shift and a reason. Four to six hours.

Organic chemistry and homologous series

Section 4: Organic chemistry

Alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, carboxylic acids, esters, isomerism, addition and substitution, polymerisation and crude-oil fractions. Taught last in most Dubai schools and therefore revised least. Six to ten hours if started late, which is why the late-organic start is the costliest version of a 4CH1 problem.

Practical technique in written questions

Examined inside both papers

Apparatus naming, method sequence, variables, observations, safety, purification by filtration, crystallisation and distillation. There is no separate practical paper in 4CH1, so these marks get the least dedicated revision of anything on the specification. Two to three hours and they are available on every paper.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format below buys a different number of hours, and the right one follows from the diagnosis rather than from preference. All run one to one or in a small group over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Diagnostic block on one named weakness

The cheapest useful purchase in this subject. Four to six sessions aimed at a single named problem from the marked script, usually the mole or ionic equations, finishing with unseen questions a fortnight later. Finite, costable in advance and frequently sufficient on its own.

  • Session count fixed before the first lesson
  • One weakness only, chosen by marks lost
  • Unseen re-test two weeks after the block ends
  • No rolling commitment to cancel

Weekly hour across the two-year course

One hour a week through Years 10 and 11, moving with the school's teaching order. The format that prevents the expensive version of a chemistry problem, because the mole gets secured in Year 10 when it takes six hours rather than in Year 11 when it takes twenty and competes with organic chemistry.

  • Fixed slot held for the term
  • Tracks the school's scheme of work rather than running a parallel course
  • Specification-referenced written feedback after each session
  • Cheapest route per mark over two years

Pre-series organic and revision intensive

Two or three sessions a week in the six to eight weeks before a Pearson series, with organic chemistry and the cheap recall topics taken first because they return the most marks per hour. The most expensive format per month and often the best value per mark, and the hardest to book late.

  • Priority set by marks available per hour of work
  • Organic chemistry and ion tests first, theory later
  • Timed sections each week at real paper length
  • Book before the autumn half-term for a November series

What a 4CH1 problem costs to fix, by diagnosis

Chemistry is unusually tractable to cost because its failure modes are discrete. A student is not generally bad at chemistry; they are insecure in the mole, or they cannot write an ionic equation, or they met organic chemistry six weeks before the paper. Each of those has a known shape and a known duration, and a provider who has read a marked script can give an hour estimate rather than a vague recommendation. The table below sets out the estimates we work from, in hours rather than in dirhams, so that any rate band on this page can be applied to them.

The estimates assume one to one work and a student who does the practice between sessions. They are honest about the asymmetry in both directions. A tests-for-ions gap is one or two hours and recovers marks on every paper, which makes it the best-value repair available in the subject. A late organic chemistry start is six to ten hours under time pressure, which is the single most expensive position a 4CH1 family can be in, and the reason is simply the calendar: organic is taught last and the series does not move.

Read the right-hand column before the hours column. It gives the signal a parent can look for in their own child's marked paper, which means the diagnosis does not depend on taking a provider's word for it. A script where every calculation question lost marks but the explanation questions scored is a mole problem. A script where electrolysis and acids both lost marks in the same way is an ionic-equation problem. A script that is strong until the last two questions is usually a syllabus-coverage problem rather than an understanding one.

The four sections of 4CH1, and how the 180 marks are reached

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry is organised into four sections: Principles of chemistry, Inorganic chemistry, Physical chemistry and Organic chemistry. It is assessed through Paper 1C, two hours for 110 marks, and Paper 2C, one hour fifteen minutes for 70 marks, which makes 180 marks and puts Paper 1C at 61.1% of the subject total against 38.9% for Paper 2C. There is no coursework, no controlled assessment and no separate practical examination. The entry is untiered and the result is reported on the 9 to 1 scale.

The structure has a cost consequence families should know about. Because the specification identifies a body of content examined only in Paper 2C, a student who revises the four sections evenly without separating out that subset arrives at the shorter paper least prepared, in the paper with the least time to recover. Checking which content that is, on the live specification for the relevant series, is twenty minutes of a parent's evening and can redirect several tutoring hours.

The section weightings are not published as a simple percentage split per section, so this page does not invent one. What the table records instead is what each section demands of a student and what that implies for the hour count, which is the more useful quantity for planning. Verify the current specification content and the paper structure on qualifications.pearson.com for your child's cohort, because the version in use at the time of entry is the one that counts and Pearson does revise between series.

The mole: one skill, most of the grade, and most of the invoice

  • Cold conversions at the start of every session, in both directions
  • Units written on every line of working, not just on the answer
  • No formula triangles; the relationship is learnt as a sentence
  • Significant figures and state symbols drilled alongside, since the paper penalises both
  • Secured in Year 10 it is six to eight hours; left to Year 11 it competes with organic chemistry

If a 4CH1 script is going to collapse in one place, it collapses at the mole. Relative formula mass, moles from mass, empirical formula, reacting masses, limiting reagents, percentage yield, concentration and gas volumes are all the same idea wearing different clothes, and a student who has learned each as a separate procedure has learned six fragile things instead of one robust one. The symptom is characteristic: the student can sometimes do these questions and cannot say why the method works, so performance looks like inconsistency rather than a gap.

This is why diagnosis changes the price so much. A family who buys general chemistry tutoring for a mole problem will spend a term covering content the student mostly knows, because content revision feels productive and is comfortable for both sides. A family who identifies the mole will spend six to eight hours drilling conversions until the student can move between mass, moles, concentration and volume without pausing, and then find that the content revision they were about to buy is no longer needed. Same rate, a quarter of the invoice.

The drill itself is unglamorous and should be. Ten minutes at the start of each session, cold, with no formula triangle and no prompt sheet: grams to moles, moles to grams, moles to concentration, concentration to volume, both directions, with units written on every line. Significant figures and state symbols get folded in because the paper penalises their absence. Dubai cohorts arriving from different previous curricula vary sharply in where they start here, which is an argument for the diagnostic session rather than for assuming a level.

04

Dubai rate bands, and where a 4CH1 specialist actually sits

The bands below are published figures from named providers, read in October 2026, with no IB Gram row because IB Gram quotes after a free diagnostic rather than from a list. Inventing a figure to sit competitively against the others would be exactly the behaviour that makes this market hard to read. What the table does instead is say what each band buys in terms of 4CH1 specifically, which is the comparison a chemistry parent actually needs.

The honest point about the cheapest band is that it has a legitimate use. A university-student tutor at AED 50 an hour is a reasonable purchase for supervised practice, for drilling mole conversions once someone has established that drilling is the right work, or for keeping a student working through a holiday. What that band is unlikely to supply is knowledge of how Pearson words an electrolysis question, which content sits only in Paper 2C, or what a mark scheme awards for a method answer. If the problem is technique rather than effort, the cheap option does not touch it.

The top band deserves a caution. Rates of AED 500 to 650 and above are frequently attached to an examiner claim, and examiner status should never be used to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content, nor accepted without evidence. A better test costs nothing: ask the tutor to mark one page of your child's chemistry and explain, mark by mark, where the scheme would and would not award credit. Anyone who knows 4CH1 can do that in ten minutes, at any price point, and the answer tells you more than a badge does.

One to one, a pair or a group of four: the chemistry arithmetic

Group tutoring is cheaper per student and is not simply a worse version of one to one. It works well for recall-heavy material where every student needs the same thing: tests for ions, naming organic compounds, learning salt-preparation methods. It works badly for arithmetic repair, because the whole point of mole drilling is that the student works at their own speed with immediate correction, and a group of four necessarily moves at one speed. Families who understand that distinction buy the right format for each problem rather than one format for everything.

The arithmetic is worth doing properly. A monthly package advertised at around AED 799 for eight online sessions is roughly AED 100 a session, but that comparison only holds if the sessions are one to one and an hour long. A group of four at AED 100 a head is AED 400 an hour of a tutor's time, which is above the specialist one-to-one band, and whether that is good value depends entirely on whether the four students share a weakness. Ask how many are in the group and whether the roster is fixed for the term.

A pair is the underused option. Two students at a similar standard, ideally from the same school and the same teaching set, can be taught chemistry together more effectively than four can, and the per-student rate drops meaningfully. The constraint is honesty about the standard: a pairing where one student is two grades ahead becomes a one-to-one lesson that the other watches. In Dubai this format works best within a single community or school year group, where the parents already know each other and can agree a fixed slot.

Organic chemistry, taught last and revised least

Section 4 of the specification arrives at the end of most Dubai schemes of work, often in the spring of Year 11, and it is the section students revise least because they have seen it least. The consequence is predictable enough to plan around: scripts where the first three sections hold up and the organic questions are attempted thinly or abandoned. Six to ten hours of tutoring will repair it, and those are the most expensive hours in the subject, bought at the point in the year when specialist diaries are full and timing is least negotiable.

The content itself is more learnable than students expect, because it is pattern-based. Homologous series behave consistently: the alkanes, alkenes, alcohols and carboxylic acids each have a general formula, a naming convention and a small set of reactions, and once a student sees the pattern the recall load drops sharply. Addition versus substitution, the bromine-water test, oxidation of alcohols, esterification and addition polymerisation form a short list of named reactions rather than a large one.

The cheap intervention is calendar work rather than teaching. A family that knows organic chemistry lands in the spring can buy a short block in the autumn to pre-teach the homologous series, so that the school's own lessons land on prepared ground. Three hours in November is worth more than eight in April, and it is also easier to book. That is the clearest example on this page of why chemistry tutoring is best costed by timing rather than by hourly rate.

07

Practical marks in a specification with no practical paper

4CH1 has no coursework and no separate practical examination, and yet practical chemistry is examined throughout both written papers: naming apparatus, giving a method in the right order, identifying variables, describing observations precisely, purifying by filtration, crystallisation or distillation, and commenting on safety. Because nothing practical appears on the examination timetable, these marks receive the least dedicated revision of anything on the specification, and they are available on every paper.

The questions reward precision of language more than laboratory experience. An observation answer that says the solution changed colour earns less than one that says a white precipitate formed. A method answer that lists apparatus without sequence loses order marks. A salt-preparation question wants add excess, filter, evaporate, crystallise in that order, with state symbols where equations appear. All of this is teachable over video using the school's own practical write-ups, which is the most efficient use of work the student has already done.

On delivery, the honest position: IB Gram does not run laboratory sessions in Dubai and does not send tutors to UAE addresses, because home visits are a service offered only in India. The practical work belongs to the school, which has the fume cupboard and the technician. What a tutor adds over live video is translation: opening the student's own write-up on a shared screen and marking it the way Pearson words these questions, so that a laboratory afternoon already spent converts into marks on the paper.

08

Two series a year, and what the retake decision costs

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in May and June and again in November, which gives a Dubai family a second decision point that most competitor pages never mention. The practical effect on cost is significant: a chemistry grade below a sixth-form requirement in August does not require a repeated year, it requires a finite block of work in the autumn. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026.

The dates that govern a family's planning are the administrative ones rather than the examination ones, and for a retake they turn into a straight choice between two series. A June grade that disappoints arrives on 20 August, as it did for the June 2026 series, and the next sitting is November: that timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with results reaching students in the January that follows, as the November 2025 results did on 22 January 2026. The alternative is waiting for the following May and June, which costs an academic year on a university application. What makes the November route workable or not is the entry deadline, which the centre works to months ahead, in the summer before the papers; a family that only starts asking in September has usually already missed it. Pearson released June 2026 results to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Two instructions follow for anyone costing a retake. Ask the school for the entry deadline rather than the paper date, because the entry is the irreversible step and the one that sits earliest. And treat every published timetable as provisional until the final version appears: Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the International GCSE November series you are costing the retake for, so the live PDF on qualifications.pearson.com is the only version worth building a tutoring block around. Cambridge makes the same point more bluntly for its own candidates: every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for that zone, and Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after consulting the wrong one.

Permits, honesty and the things money should not buy

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful and regulated. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, any specific amount quoted to a parent should be disregarded. MoHRE's own listing is Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a two-working-day completion time.

Dubai's private schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi has ADEK, Sharjah the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah the federal Ministry of Education. IB Gram holds no permit, licence, accreditation or endorsement from any of them, nor from Pearson or Cambridge, and any provider claiming otherwise should be asked to produce the document. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules additionally bar school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school.

The last thing money should not buy in this subject is assessed work. 4CH1 has no coursework, which removes the commonest route to trouble, but one competitor in this market sells completed Internal Assessments for other qualifications at AED 3,750, and that is an academic-integrity breach that puts the student at risk rather than the seller. A tutor teaches, questions, marks and gives feedback on work the student produced. On equivalency, the sourced British-track rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level at E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level; a 4CH1 grade can be one of the five, and no tutoring provider performs or guarantees the process.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Lessons are delivered over video, so a Dubai family's postcode changes the in-home comparison rather than our availability. The notes below record what each part of the emirate actually reports about chemistry tutoring supply and scheduling.

Al Barsha and Barsha Heights

Dense tutoring supply and short journeys, so in-home chemistry quotes here cluster at the lower end of the published AED 180 to 350 band. The constraint families report is not price but the 17:00 slot, which is contested across three or four subjects in the same household.

Umm Suqeim and Al Safa

Close to several selective British-curriculum schools with heavy internal assessment loads. Chemistry tutoring here is usually about triage between the school's own deadlines, which makes shorter targeted blocks better value than an open weekly commitment.

The Greens, The Views and Barsha South

Apartment communities with a high density of Year 10 and Year 11 students and a quiet-room problem rather than a travel problem. Headphones and a fixed study space matter more here than anything on a rate card.

Town Square, Remraam and Dubai South

Outer communities where the in-home chemistry pool is genuinely thin at the hours families want. Several report being offered only 20:00 slots by visiting tutors, which is past the point where mole arithmetic is learnable.

Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Investment Park

Long journeys from the central tutoring supply, so quotes sit at the top of the in-home band and cancellations are more common. This is the part of Dubai where the online option most often gets chosen on reliability rather than on price.

Al Khawaneej and Mirdif

Eastern districts with dense schooling and a high proportion of students taking three separate sciences. Weekend morning chemistry sessions are unusually productive here because the student is not arriving from a full school day.

Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Walking-distance schooling frees the late afternoon, which makes a twice-weekly pre-series block easier to protect here than anywhere else in the emirate. Budget online providers advertising from AED 33 an hour compete hardest in this area.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Western Dubai, three separate sciences

Schools where a 4CH1 cohort typically sits chemistry, biology and physics as separate subjects alongside a full timetable. Students we support in this cluster most often need the mole secured in Year 10 rather than content revision in Year 11.

Eastern and southern Dubai

Larger cohorts, wider ability ranges and a higher proportion of Science Double Award entries. Diagnosis takes a session longer here because a double-award script does not label which science lost the marks.

Schools are named purely to describe the Dubai chemistry market. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school listed here, and none is implied by the mention.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked chemistry paper first

Three photographed pages of the student's own marked work settle in ten minutes what a phone call cannot settle at all. The pattern of lost marks tells a specialist whether this is a mole problem, an equation problem or a coverage problem, and those are six hours, three hours and a term respectively. Everything on the price side follows from that.

  2. 02

Free thirty-minute diagnostic, then an hour estimate

A 4CH1 specialist reads the script with the student, sorts the lost marks by cause and names the largest. The output is an hour estimate and a priority, in writing, before any rate is agreed. No card details are taken. Families who stop there with a clearer idea of the problem have still had the useful part.

  3. 03

Buy the block, not the term

Agree a finite number of sessions aimed at the named weakness, with an unseen re-test a fortnight after it ends. If the problem has closed, stop. If it has not, the feedback shows why and the next block is chosen on evidence. Open-ended monthly arrangements are how a six-hour problem becomes a two-term commitment.

  4. 04

Pre-teach the sections that arrive late

If the school teaches organic chemistry in the spring, three hours in the autumn to lay down the homologous series is worth more than eight hours in April and is far easier to book. The same logic applies to rates and energetics. This is the only genuine saving available in 4CH1 tutoring, and it depends on asking for the scheme of work.

  5. 05

    Re-cost after each school assessment

Every mock changes the hour estimate. Closed categories drop out, new ones appear, and the remaining weeks get re-allocated by marks available per hour rather than by specification order. A provider who never revises the estimate downwards when a problem closes is not costing the work, they are selling a subscription.

  6. 06

    Change tutor without restarting

Two or three sessions are enough to know whether a match works. Say so and another 4CH1 specialist picks up the same diagnosis, the same priority list and the same hour estimate. Nothing is re-assessed and nothing is re-charged, which is the specific thing to confirm in writing with any provider before the first paid hour.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Hours estimated before rates discussed

The quantity that decides a chemistry bill is the hour count, not the hourly figure, and the hour count comes from a marked script. Quoting a rate before anyone has looked at the student's work is the standard practice in this market and the reason families routinely buy four times the tutoring the problem needed.

The mole treated as the main event

Most 4CH1 grades that disappoint disappoint for one arithmetic reason, and content revision will not touch it. Securing mole conversions in six to eight hours of drilling recovers marks across Principles and Physical chemistry at once, which is both the fastest improvement and the cheapest.

Every figure sourced, nothing invented

Each AED band on this page names the provider or rate table that published it and the month it was read. No statistic appears without its origin, no rating is asserted, and no regulator is claimed as an endorser. A page a parent can check is worth more than a page that flatters itself.

Formats matched to problems

A group of four is good value for ion tests and poor value for mole drilling. A pair at the same standard beats both on cost for shared weaknesses. Recommending one format for every diagnosis is simpler to sell and wastes money, so the format follows the problem rather than the price list.

Timing advice that reduces the bill

Pre-teaching the sections a Dubai school covers late, especially organic chemistry, converts eight expensive April hours into three cheap November ones. Advice that shrinks a family's spend is unusual in this market and is the clearest evidence that the diagnosis is being run for the student rather than for the invoice.

Delivered online and said so

Lessons run one to one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not arrange home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE, and the in-home rates quoted here belong to the market, attributed to the sources that published them. Knowing that before a trial is better than discovering it after one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What does an online Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry 4CH1 tutor cost in Dubai?+

Published market bands for October 2026: budget online tutoring from AED 33 to 65 an hour and broadly AED 45 to 150; qualified subject tutors online at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing International GCSE tuition from AED 150; IGCSE and IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase about AED 270. A 4CH1 entry sits naturally in the specialist band because the paper split and the Paper 2C content are code-specific. IB Gram quotes after a free thirty-minute diagnostic, with no card details taken, because the hour count matters more than the rate.

How many hours does it take to fix a mole-calculation weakness in 4CH1?+

Six to eight hours of one-to-one work for most students, provided they practise between sessions. The work is drilling rather than teaching: cold conversions between mass, moles, concentration and volume in both directions, with units on every line and no formula triangles. Secured in Year 10 it stays at six to eight hours. Left to the spring of Year 11 it competes with organic chemistry revision and takes substantially longer, which is why diagnosing it early is the single largest saving available in this subject.

Which part of 4CH1 gives the best value for a few tutoring hours?+

Tests for ions and gases. Flame tests, precipitate colours, the tests for carbonates, sulfates, halides and ammonium, and the gas tests are pure recall with a predictable question style, and most students have never systematically learnt them. One to two hours makes those marks reliably available on every paper. Electrolysis is close behind, at two to three hours once half equations are secure, because the question style repeats across series. Both are cheaper repairs than any amount of general content revision.

How is Paper 1C weighted against Paper 2C in 4CH1?+

Paper 1C runs two hours for 110 marks and Paper 2C runs one hour fifteen minutes for 70 marks, giving 180 marks in total: 61.1% of the subject total in the first paper and 38.9% in the second. The more useful fact is the content split. The specification identifies material examined only in Paper 2C, and a student who has revised the four sections evenly without separating that subset arrives least prepared at the shorter paper. Check the live specification on qualifications.pearson.com for your child's series.

Is there coursework or a practical exam in Edexcel IGCSE Chemistry 4CH1?+

No. 4CH1 is two written papers with no coursework, no controlled assessment and no separate practical examination. Practical chemistry is still examined inside both papers: apparatus, method order, observations, purification by filtration, crystallisation and distillation, variables and safety. Because nothing practical sits on the examination timetable, these marks get the least revision of anything on the specification and are available on every paper. Two to three hours spent on the language of observation and method answers is among the better-value work in the subject.

Why is organic chemistry the most expensive part of 4CH1 to fix?+

Because of the calendar rather than the content. Section 4 is taught at the end of most Dubai schemes of work, often in the spring of Year 11, so students have seen it least when the series arrives. Repairing it then takes six to ten hours, bought when specialist diaries are full and timing is least negotiable. The content itself is pattern-based and more learnable than students expect. Three hours of pre-teaching the homologous series in the autumn is worth more than eight hours in April.

Is a group chemistry class in Dubai better value than one to one?+

It depends on the problem. Groups work well for recall-heavy material where everyone needs the same thing: ion tests, naming organic compounds, salt-preparation methods. They work badly for arithmetic repair, because mole drilling requires one student working at their own speed with immediate correction. Do the arithmetic before deciding: a group of four at around AED 100 a head is AED 400 of a tutor's hour, which is above the specialist one-to-one band. Ask how many are in the group and whether the roster is fixed for the term.

Can two students from the same Dubai school share a 4CH1 tutor?+

Yes, and a pair is the most underused format in this market. Two students at a similar standard, ideally in the same teaching set, can be taught chemistry together effectively, and the per-student rate drops meaningfully against one to one. The requirement is honesty about the standard: if one is more than a grade ahead, the session becomes a one-to-one lesson the other watches. Pairings work best inside a single community or year group where the families can agree a fixed slot for the term.

My child's marked paper shows the method right and the number wrong. What is that?+

Almost always a unit problem rather than a chemistry problem, and it is one of the cheaper repairs. Concentration and gas-volume questions are where it shows: cubic centimetres treated as cubic decimetres, grams per cubic decimetre confused with moles per cubic decimetre, dividing where the student should multiply. The tell is an answer out by a factor of a thousand with the working otherwise correct. Three to four hours of conversion drilling fixes it, provided the mole itself is already secure; if it is not, start there instead.

Does a cheaper tutor at AED 50 an hour make sense for chemistry practice?+

For some work, genuinely yes. Once a diagnosis exists and the task is supervised practice or conversion drilling, a budget online tutor at the advertised AED 33 to 65 an hour is a reasonable purchase and a sensible way to keep a student working through a holiday. What that band is unlikely to provide is specification knowledge: how Pearson words an electrolysis question, which content sits only in Paper 2C, and what a mark scheme awards for a method answer. If the lost marks are technique rather than effort, the cheap option will not reach them.

How do I know whether my child sits Pearson 4CH1 or Cambridge 0620?+

The exam entry statement issued by the school carries the exact codes, and it is the only document that settles it. Ask the examinations officer for it in writing. The distinction matters because the two specifications are assessed differently, including the practical arrangements, and buying 4CH1 tutoring for a Cambridge candidate wastes the first sessions. Dubai schools quite commonly enter Pearson for one science and Cambridge for another, so check each subject separately rather than assuming a single board across the sciences.

Can we book a short block before a November chemistry retake?+

Yes, and for a retake it is the right structure. Pearson runs International GCSE in November as well as in May and June, and the November 2026 timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, so preparation falls in the first term of the Dubai year. A retake block is finite and easy to cost, usually six to ten weeks of two sessions a week aimed only at the sections the previous script lost marks on. Confirm first that your child's school enters November candidates, since not every Dubai centre does.

Does a chemistry tutor in Dubai have to hold a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so disregard any figure quoted as fact. MoHRE's service page lists a two-working-day completion time. Since the permit is free and quick, there is no cost reason for a tutor not to hold one.

What should a 4CH1 tutor never agree to do?+

Produce assessed work on a student's behalf. 4CH1 has no coursework, which removes the commonest route to trouble, but the principle holds across every qualification a Dubai student sits: a tutor teaches, questions, marks and gives feedback on work the student has written. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, which is an academic-integrity breach that endangers the student rather than the seller. A tutor should also reference Pearson past papers and mark schemes rather than distributing copies, because Pearson owns that material.

Does a 4CH1 grade count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

It can be one of the five required subjects. The sourced British-track rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. One ranking competitor states six subjects; the sourced figure is five. No verified IB points threshold exists, so accept none without a moe.gov.ae source. Equivalency is handled by the authority, and no tutoring provider performs or guarantees it.

How quickly should we expect the chemistry marks to move?+

It depends on which diagnosis applies, and honest providers say so rather than promising a timeline. Recall repairs such as ion tests show up in the next topic test, within two or three weeks. Unit and conversion work shows up over four to six weeks, once the drilling has become automatic. A genuine content gap across a whole section takes a term, and organic chemistry started late may only partly close before the series. No tutor can promise a particular grade, and a provider offering one should be treated with real scepticism.

Cost the problem before you buy the hours

If your child sits Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1 at a Dubai school, the useful first step is not a rate comparison. Send three photographed pages of their most recent marked chemistry. A 4CH1 specialist will read it in a free thirty-minute session, name whether this is a mole problem, an equation problem or a coverage problem, and give you an hour estimate in writing before any rate is discussed. No card details are taken. If the estimate is four hours, you will be told four hours. Lessons run one to one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
