IB and IGCSE tutors for Masdar City families

IB and IGCSE tutors for Masdar City families, matched by subject and level rather than by postcode. Masdar City has no large private school campus of its own, so your child is taught in Khalifa City, Al Raha or on the island and comes home holding the half of the course the timetable never reaches: the scientific investigation, the exploration, the practical write-ups, the past papers nobody supervises. Lessons run online, one to one, over live video, on a shared screen with the paper open.

IB & IGCSE in Masdar City

The half of the course that comes home with your child

Masdar City is a research and free-zone district first and a residential one second. The people who live here are engineers, researchers, energy-sector staff, graduate students and the families attached to them, in low-rise apartments arranged around shaded courtyards near the airport road. There is no large private school campus inside the development. That single fact shapes every tutoring conversation we have with a family at this address: the school is somewhere else, the bus leaves early, and the academic day your child actually controls begins when they get home.

The thing parents here notice sooner than most is that a Diploma or IGCSE course is only partly a taught course. A Higher Level science timetable delivers content, demonstrations and a practical scheme of work. It does not deliver the scientific investigation, which the student designs alone. It does not deliver the ten hours of the collaborative sciences project. It does not deliver the hundred-odd marks of past-paper practice that turn knowledge into a grade, because a class of twenty-four cannot sit and watch one student answer a six-mark question badly and then explain why. All of that is handed back to a sixteen-year-old to organise in an apartment in Masdar City on a Tuesday evening.

So the honest brief for a tutor here is not revision in general. It is the specific unfinished work: a research question with no measurable variable in it, a data table with no uncertainties, an exploration with a topic chosen because it sounded interesting rather than because it could be modelled, a Paper 2 answer that describes when the command term said explain. Those are diagnosable problems with known repairs, and they are exactly what an hour of one-to-one time is good at.

The second thing that shapes this page is supply. Masdar City is a small population inside a large emirate. A family looking for someone who has taught Environmental Systems and Societies at Higher Level, or Design Technology, or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches to a student aiming at an engineering degree, is not looking for a neighbour. The pool of people within a twenty-minute drive who have marked that specific component is small enough to be a rounding error. Matching by subject across a wider pool, and delivering the lesson over video, is the arrangement that puts a specialist on the screen rather than whoever was nearest.

We should be plain about delivery, because the phrase parents type into Google says home tutor. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a Masdar City family the lesson happens online, one to one, over live video, with the student's own script on a shared screen. The rest of this page explains what that buys, what the market charges for the alternatives, and where a tutor has to stop so that the work stays the student's own.

At a glance

  • No large private school campus sits inside Masdar City; children travel to Khalifa City, Al Raha, Mohammed Bin Zayed City or the island
  • Diploma sciences put a fifth of the grade in an investigation the student designs alone
  • The collaborative sciences project asks ten hours of every Diploma science student and is not separately marked
  • Abu Dhabi private schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, which publishes its own inspection outcomes
  • Lessons are delivered online over live video; we do not run in-home visits in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Masdar City children sit a narrow set of programmes in practice, because the schools within reach of the development are concentrated in the IB continuum and the English National Curriculum leading to Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE. The four below cover almost every enquiry we take from this address.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Grades run 1-7 per subject with up to three bonus points from the core, for 45 in total. The examined papers are only part of it: every subject carries an internally assessed component marked by the school against published criteria and moderated by the IB, and in the sciences that component is a fifth of the grade.

The IB continuum is well represented within reach of Masdar City, with Raha International School in Al Raha Gardens and other authorised schools in Khalifa City and on the island. A Masdar City Diploma student is usually on a bus before seven, which means the realistic tutoring window is after half past five, and in DP2 it is the investigation and the Extended Essay, not the content, that eat the evenings.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked 1-8, with no percentages and no raw marks. Parents moving from a British or American system find the report unreadable at first, because a 5 in criterion C does not convert into a familiar grade. MYP 5 ends in the personal project and, in some schools, eAssessment.

For a Masdar City family the MYP years are where the science habits that decide a Diploma grade are either built or missed. Criterion C and criterion D in the sciences are inquiry, design and reflection work: the same skills the Diploma scientific investigation marks. A student who has never designed a fair test by MYP 5 will meet that demand for the first time in DP1, with a fifth of a grade attached.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

Two-year courses examined by written paper, with a syllabus code that decides which past papers are worth doing. Cambridge entries are tiered in several subjects: Core caps the grade at a C or 5, Extended runs the full range. Pearson International GCSE is linear in most subjects, with its own codes and its own paper structures, and the two boards are not interchangeable in practice.

Abu Dhabi schools within reach of Masdar City use both boards, sometimes in the same building for different subjects. The first useful thing a parent can do is read the syllabus code off the statement of entry and write it down, because 0620 and 4CH1 are different Chemistry courses with different papers, and a term of practice on the wrong set of past papers is a term wasted.

PYPAges 3-12 · Years 1-6

IB Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units of inquiry rather than discrete subjects, with reporting based on learner profile attributes and approaches to learning. Reading age, number fluency and the ability to write at length are the measurable things underneath, and they are the things that predict how a child copes in MYP and the Diploma.

Primary enquiries from Masdar City are usually about one of two things: a child arriving mid-year from another system and landing in a PYP classroom with no obvious content overlap, or a parent who has read a PYP report and cannot tell whether reading is on track. Both are answerable in a short diagnostic block rather than a standing weekly commitment.

Subject coverage

IB subjects we tutor

The subject mix we are asked for from this address leans heavily towards the sciences, mathematics and the interdisciplinary courses, which is unsurprising given who lives and works here. Each entry below says what the course actually assesses and where the marks tend to go.

Physics

DP HL and SL

In the current guide the examined papers carry 36% and 44% and the scientific investigation carries 20%. Marks leave the page in the extended-response questions, where students describe a mechanism instead of explaining it, and in anything asking for an uncertainty, a gradient with units or a propagated error.

Chemistry

DP HL and SL

Organic mechanisms, equilibrium and energetics account for most of the lost marks we see. The reactivity and structure strands reward precise language: a student who writes that a bond breaks without saying which bond, and why that bond, loses the mark even when the chemistry in their head is correct.

Biology

DP HL and SL

The content volume is the trap. Students revise the vocabulary and then meet a Paper 2 question built on unfamiliar data about an organism they have never studied. The skill being tested is reading a graph and applying a principle, and it is practisable in an hour a week long before the final term.

Environmental Systems and Societies

DP HL and SL

Interdisciplinary, and the one course that can satisfy either the individual-and-societies or the sciences requirement. It was rewritten for first assessment in 2026, with Higher Level now available, so confirm the current component split in your school's copy of the subject guide before planning around a percentage.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

DP HL and SL

At Standard Level two papers at 40% each plus the exploration at 20%. At Higher Level three papers, the third a 20% extended-problem paper that most students meet for the first time under exam conditions. Proof, calculus and the Paper 3 style are the three places the grade is decided.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

DP HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology-heavy work, with the graphical display calculator used as a tool rather than a last resort. It is not the easy route; it is a different route. Which one an engineering or physical-sciences applicant needs is a question to settle on the destination university's own admissions page, not in a forum.

Design Technology

DP HL and SL

A course where a large share of the grade sits in the design project, assessed against published criteria. The common failure is a project with no genuine client and no measurable specification, which caps the marks available in the evaluation criteria no matter how good the final artefact looks.

Computer Science

DP HL and SL

Paper-based theory plus an internally assessed solution the student develops and documents. Students who can code often lose marks on the documentation and the success criteria rather than on the program, because the criteria reward evidence of a process rather than a working build.

Geography

DP HL and SL

Case-study discipline. The fieldwork report at Standard and Higher Level is internally assessed, and the examined papers reward named, dated, located examples. A student who answers in generalities about coastal management scores in the bottom band however fluent the prose.

Economics

DP HL and SL

Diagrams are marks. A correctly labelled, correctly shifted diagram with the new equilibrium identified earns credit that a paragraph cannot. The internally assessed portfolio of commentaries on published news articles is where students lose time by picking articles with no clear economic mechanism in them.

IGCSE coverage

IGCSE subjects we tutor

At IGCSE the science routes matter more than the subject names, because the code on the statement of entry decides the paper structure, the tier and the practical arrangement. These are the ones Masdar City families ask about.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended, or linear

Electricity, waves and anything requiring a rearranged equation with units are the repeat offenders. Cambridge offers an alternative-to-practical paper and a practical test; which one your child sits is the school's decision and changes what to practise.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended, or linear

Moles, electrolysis and the qualitative-analysis tables. Students memorise the tests and then cannot explain an observation, which is what the longer questions ask for. The two boards sequence organic chemistry differently.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended, or linear

Transport in plants, homeostasis and genetics crosses. The genetics questions are answerable with a method rather than a memory, and that method takes about two sessions to install properly.

Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences (Cambridge 0654 / 0653)

Double or single award

A compressed version of all three sciences. Students arriving from a separate-sciences background find content missing; students moving the other way find the depth has increased. Check which award your child is entered for before buying any support.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core or Extended; Foundation or Higher

The tier decision caps the grade, and it is usually made in Year 10 by the school. Pearson also offers Further Pure Mathematics as a separate qualification, which some Abu Dhabi schools use as a bridge towards Higher Level maths.

Environmental Management (Cambridge 0680)

Single award

Rarely offered and rarely tutored, which makes it a good illustration of the supply problem: a student taking 0680 in Abu Dhabi may be the only one in their year group, and the nearest person who has taught it is unlikely to live nearby.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover almost everything a Masdar City family needs. All three are delivered online, one to one, over live video, with the student's own work on a shared screen.

Weekly one-to-one on a single subject

One or two sessions a week on the subject that is costing the most marks, run from the student's own returned scripts and current coursework rather than from a generic scheme. This is the arrangement that fits a Masdar City evening, because it needs a sixty-minute slot and nobody has to be anywhere.

  • Sixty or ninety minutes, same slot each week, booked for a term
  • Agenda set by the last marked script, not by the next chapter
  • Written note after each session naming what was covered and what to practise

A coursework block around an investigation or exploration

A short, dense series of sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines: research question, method, data handling, analysis, evaluation. The tutor works on what the student has produced, comments against the published criteria, and hands it back. Nothing is supplied as text for the student to submit.

  • Four to eight sessions, scheduled backwards from the school's deadline
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Explicit record of what the tutor saw and what the tutor said, for the school if asked

An exam-term intensive

A heavier pattern for the eight to twelve weeks before a session, built around timed questions under conditions and the mark scheme afterwards. It suits a student who knows the content and is losing marks to command terms, timing and presentation rather than to gaps in knowledge.

  • Two or three sessions a week through the run-up to the papers
  • Timed component practice, marked against published criteria
  • A stop date agreed at the start so the pattern does not drift on indefinitely

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Masdar City

01

What a tutoring search from Masdar City is usually trying to fix

A Masdar City parent typing IB and IGCSE tutors into a search box is rarely asking for general academic help. The enquiries that arrive from this address cluster into three shapes, and they have different answers. The first is a Diploma student in DP2 whose examined content is fine but whose internally assessed work has stalled: a scientific investigation with no usable data three weeks before the school deadline, or an exploration with a topic that cannot be modelled. The second is a Year 10 or Year 11 student who has met tiered entry for the first time and whose school has put them into Core when the family expected Extended. The third is a family that has just moved into the development and discovered that the school place they secured is a forty-minute run away, which removes every in-person tutoring arrangement they had used before.

None of those is solved by proximity. The first needs somebody who has read the current criteria for that specific component and can say which of the four is losing marks. The second needs somebody who can explain what a Core entry actually caps and whether a mid-course change is still available. The third needs a format that does not consume an hour of road time at each end. In every case the useful filter is the subject and the level, not the distance.

What makes this address distinctive is the composition of the population. Masdar City draws people working in energy, engineering, research and the free zone, and their children disproportionately sit the science-heavy and interdisciplinary courses: Physics and Chemistry at Higher Level, Environmental Systems and Societies, Design Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics Analysis and Approaches. Those are precisely the courses where the internally assessed component is largest and the local specialist pool is thinnest. A family here is more likely than most to be looking for a subject that no tuition centre in the emirate advertises.

So this page is organised around that gap rather than around a list of services. It sets out where the marks actually sit in a Diploma science, what the investigation asks for criterion by criterion, what the market charges in AED, what a tutor may and may not do with assessed work, and what happens when the specialist a student needs is not free this term.

02

The hours a science course assumes outside the laboratory

Every Diploma science course publishes a notional teaching time, and every one of them assumes work that happens outside it. The timetable delivers the content strands and a practical scheme of work. It does not deliver the scientific investigation, which is an individual piece of research the student designs, runs, analyses and writes. It does not deliver the collaborative sciences project, which replaced the Group 4 project in the 2023 guides and asks ten hours of every Diploma science student without being separately marked. And it does not deliver past-paper volume, because class time has to be spent on the thing twenty-four students need rather than on the thing one student is getting wrong.

Writing those hours down is the single most useful planning exercise a Masdar City family can do in September. Once they are on paper, the weekly slot stops looking like an extravagance and starts looking like the only scheduled time in the week when the unsupervised work has a deadline attached. Students do not fail to do independent study because they are lazy. They fail because independent study has no fixed hour, no audience and no consequence until the term it is already too late.

The table below is the version we use with Diploma families at this address. The hour figures are the shape of a typical course rather than a published requirement for any one subject, so treat them as a planning frame and replace them with your school's own scheme of work when you have it. The columns that matter are the last two: who sets the deadline, and whether anyone notices if the work does not happen.

Two patterns show up repeatedly. First, the investigation and the exploration are almost always underestimated by a factor of two. Second, the collaborative sciences project arrives at the worst possible moment, usually in DP1 term three alongside the first real mock, and because it carries no marks of its own it is the first thing a tired student drops, which then creates a compliance problem rather than a grade problem.

Where the marks sit in a Diploma science, component by component

Parents are often surprised by how much of a science grade is not an examination. In the current Biology, Chemistry and Physics guides the two written papers carry 36% and 44%, and the scientific investigation carries 20%. That last fifth is marked by the teacher against published criteria and then moderated by the IB. It is the only part of the grade that is banked long before the examination, and it is the only part a student can improve with certainty, because the deadline is months away and the criteria are published.

That changes where tutoring money should go. A student twelve months out from the papers who is averaging a 4 has two levers: raise the examined performance, which is slow and uncertain, or secure the investigation properly, which is fast and controllable. Most families reach for the first and ignore the second. The investigation is the better buy, and it is the component a one-to-one hour is best suited to, because it is a single piece of work with four named criteria and a draft on the screen.

The table below sets out the components for the subjects we are asked for most from Masdar City. Weightings change when a subject guide is rewritten, so each row carries the status we are confident about, and the Environmental Systems and Societies row is deliberately marked for confirmation: that course was rewritten for first assessment in 2026 and Higher Level is new, so publishing a percentage for it without reading the current guide would be guessing. Your school's subject guide, or the IB coordinator, is the place to settle every figure here before you plan around it.

One further point about Paper 3 in mathematics. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level carries a third paper worth 20%, built from two extended problems that develop an unfamiliar idea over several parts. It is unlike anything in the rest of the course, and because it sits at the end of the examination schedule it is routinely the least practised component in the whole Diploma. If your child is on AA HL, that paper is worth a block of sessions on its own.

Environmental Systems and Societies, the course this address asks for by name

  • Counts for either individual-and-societies or the sciences, so it can free a subject slot
  • Rewritten for first assessment in 2026, with Higher Level newly available
  • Marks are won with systems vocabulary applied to named case studies
  • Evaluation questions need a weighed judgement, not a described position
  • Local specialist supply in Abu Dhabi is close to nil, which is the case for matching wider

Environmental Systems and Societies is the only Diploma course that can satisfy either the individual-and-societies requirement or the sciences requirement, which makes it structurally useful to a student who wants a sixth subject without a third science. It is also the course Masdar City families raise more often than any other, for obvious reasons: the development exists as a low-carbon experiment, the International Renewable Energy Agency has its headquarters here, and children who grow up surrounded by that work tend to want to study it.

It has a reputation among students for being gentle, and that reputation is wrong. The examined papers reward precise systems vocabulary — flows, stores, feedback, resilience, carrying capacity — used correctly about a named case study, and they punish fluent generalities about the environment harder than almost any other course. The evaluation questions ask for a judgement supported by evidence, and most of the marks lost are lost by students who assert a position and then describe rather than weigh. It is a language-dense subject disguised as a science.

The course was rewritten for first assessment in 2026 and Higher Level became available, so anything written about it before that date should be treated as out of date, including component weightings. We say so explicitly rather than publishing a number we have not read in the current guide. What has not changed is the shape of the internal assessment: an individual investigation on a question the student frames themselves, which is where the same problems appear as in the other sciences — a research question with no measurable variable, insufficient data, and an evaluation that lists limitations without explaining their effect.

The supply point is sharper here than anywhere. A student sitting Environmental Systems and Societies at Higher Level in Abu Dhabi may be one of a handful in the emirate. There is no realistic prospect of finding somebody nearby who has taught that specific component, and a generalist science tutor will coach it as though it were Biology, which is how students end up writing beautifully about ecosystems and scoring in the middle band. Subject matching across a wide pool is not a convenience for this course; it is the only way it gets covered at all.

05

The scientific investigation, criterion by criterion

The scientific investigation in the current Biology, Chemistry and Physics guides is marked out of twenty-four against four criteria, each worth six marks: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Those four letters are the whole of the mark scheme, and reading them with your child is the single highest-return hour available to a Diploma science family. Most students have never read them. They have been told to do an investigation and have inferred the requirements from a classmate's.

Each criterion fails in a predictable way. Research design loses marks when the research question names no measurable dependent variable, or when the method would not actually produce data capable of answering it. Data analysis loses marks when raw data is processed without uncertainties, when graphs lack error bars that the data supports, or when the processing is correct but undocumented. Conclusion loses marks when the student states a result without comparing it to accepted scientific context. Evaluation loses marks almost universally, because students list limitations as a shopping list instead of explaining how each one would have shifted the result and in which direction.

A tutor is useful here in a very specific way: reading the student's own draft against those four descriptors and saying which band it currently sits in and why. That is feedback on work the student has produced. It is not authorship, and the distinction matters more on this component than anywhere else in the Diploma, because the investigation is submitted with a declaration that it is the student's own work. We return comments, questions and criterion references. We do not supply text, data, graphs or paragraphs for submission.

The table below is the version we hand to families at the start of a coursework block. Mark allocations are stated as we understand the current guide; confirm them against your school's copy, because the science guides were rewritten recently and a school may still be running a cohort under an older specification.

IGCSE science routes, and why the code on the entry form decides everything

Before Year 10 ends, somebody at your child's school has made three decisions that will shape the IGCSE science result: which board, which award, and which tier. None of them is usually explained to parents in those terms. Cambridge Physics is 0625 and Pearson International GCSE Physics is 4PH1; they are different courses with different papers and different practical arrangements. Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 is a double award covering all three sciences in one; Combined Science 0653 is a single award covering less. And in several Cambridge subjects the entry is tiered, so a Core entry caps the available grade while Extended runs the full range.

Those distinctions decide which past papers are worth doing, which is the whole of a revision plan. A student working through Pearson 4CH1 papers for a Cambridge 0620 examination is practising a different question style, a different mark-scheme convention and in places different content. We see this every year, usually because a family bought a revision guide by subject name rather than by code. The fix costs nothing: read the code off the statement of entry, write it on the front of the folder, and buy nothing that does not match it.

The practical question matters too. Cambridge offers both a practical test and an alternative-to-practical written paper, and most international centres use the alternative. That paper tests whether a student can read a method, identify a control, spot a source of error and draw a table — written skills about practical work rather than practical skills themselves. It is highly teachable in a one-to-one hour over video, which is worth knowing for any parent who assumes a laboratory subject cannot be supported remotely.

The table sets out the routes we meet most often from this part of Abu Dhabi, with the codes next to them. Confirm each one against the board's current syllabus page, because codes and paper structures are revised on their own cycles.

What tutoring costs around Masdar City, in AED, with the source of each figure

Most pages competing for this search publish no price at all, and the few that do quote United States dollars, which is not the currency an Abu Dhabi family transacts in. So here are the market bands in dirhams, with the provider or source that published each one. These are market rates read in October 2026. They are not an IB Gram price list: our own arrangement starts with a free consultation and a trial session, and the figure that applies to your child depends on the subject, the level and how scarce the specialist is.

Read the table with two things in mind. The first is that the in-home band is higher than the online band for the same tutor quality, and the gap is travel. A tutor driving to Masdar City from the island or from Khalifa City is spending forty to eighty minutes on the road for a sixty-minute lesson, and somebody pays for that time. The second is that the top of the range is a scarcity premium, not a quality premium. A Higher Level Environmental Systems and Societies specialist costs more than a Mathematics Standard Level tutor because there are very few of them, not because the hour is better taught.

A third figure worth holding next to these: Dubai's regulator confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package. School fees are the dominant number in a family's education budget, and tutoring is usually a tenth of it or less. Setting the two side by side is a more honest way to decide what to spend than looking at an hourly rate in isolation.

On value: the cheapest effective purchase for a Diploma science student is almost never a standing weekly subscription from September. It is a short, dense block on the investigation, timed to the school's internal deadline, followed by nothing until the mock results arrive. Buy the component that is banked and controllable before you buy general revision.

A tutor driving to Masdar City against one-to-one online

This is the comparison the search term implies, so it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales line. A home tutor in the UAE is a real market with real prices, and for some families in some districts it is the right arrangement. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE — those are a service we run only in India — so what follows is a comparison of two models rather than a pitch, and you should weigh it against your own address and your child's subject.

The arithmetic from Masdar City is unusually one-sided, for a geographic reason rather than an ideological one. The development sits near the airport road with Khalifa City, the island and the Mohammed Bin Zayed corridor all a meaningful drive away. A tutor travelling in for a sixty-minute lesson commits two to three hours to that lesson, which has three consequences: the rate carries the travel, the number of evenings a week they can offer collapses, and the pool of people willing to make the trip shrinks to those who happen to live close. For a Standard Level maths student that pool may be adequate. For Higher Level Physics, Design Technology or Environmental Systems and Societies it is not.

Online delivery changes two variables and leaves the rest alone. The lesson is still sixty minutes of one-to-one teaching on the student's own work. What changes is that the specialist can be anywhere, and that nobody spends an hour in a car. What is genuinely lost is the physical presence of an adult in the room, which matters for younger children and for students who need somebody to notice them drifting. We say that plainly rather than pretending the formats are identical.

There is also a practical point about laboratory subjects, because it is the objection we hear most. Almost none of the assessed practical skill in IGCSE or Diploma science is manual. It is method design, variable control, uncertainty handling, data processing, graph work and evaluation — all of it done on paper, all of it reviewable on a shared screen with the student's own data in front of both people. The hands-on work belongs to the school laboratory, and it stays there.

The coursework year, counted backwards from the school's internal deadline

The dates that decide a Diploma grade are mostly not the examination dates. They are the school's internal deadlines for the investigation, the exploration, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge components, and they sit months earlier. Schools publish them, usually in a document handed out once in DP1 and then never referred to again. Finding it and putting the dates on a wall calendar in September is worth more than any amount of revision advice.

We have to be careful about examination dates themselves. The IB blocks automated access to its own site, so no IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB directly, and we will not publish one. What we can say is that UAE schools overwhelmingly sit the May session, and that the date your child needs is the one their IB coordinator gives them. Cambridge and Pearson dates are a different matter: both boards publish them, and they are worth reading because they show how far ahead the real deadlines sit.

Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 series is the clearest worked example available, and it is a series a UAE candidate can actually sit. The written papers ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results reached students the following January — the equivalent November 2025 results landed on 22 January 2026, roughly nine weeks after the last paper. Read the May/June window of the same qualification and the shape repeats: June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. Cambridge runs the same two windows in this market, a June series and a November series and nothing else, because Cambridge offers the February/March series to India only, so it has no bearing on an Abu Dhabi entry. In both boards entries close months ahead of the first paper rather than weeks, which is the whole point of reading a calendar backwards, and the precise closing date for a given series comes from the centre on the statement of entry rather than from a page like this one.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and the board states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. That is not a detail: it is a single administrative error that costs a whole subject. Ask the examinations officer at your child's school which zone the centre sits in, and work from that timetable only.

Academic honesty on a scientific investigation, stated plainly

  • A tutor teaches, reads, questions and gives criterion-referenced feedback
  • No text, data, graphs or ready-made research questions for submission
  • We will not send you syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes; we link the official pages instead
  • Hiring your child's own school teacher privately is barred by the ethics rules that apply in Abu Dhabi
  • Keep a record of what a tutor saw and said, so the school can be told if it asks

The Diploma asks a student to sign that internally assessed work is their own. A tutor who crosses that line puts the student at risk of a malpractice finding, which can cost the diploma, and the tutor is not the person who pays. So the boundary has to be stated before any coursework block starts, not discovered halfway through it.

What a tutor may do is teach and give feedback. That means explaining a concept the student has not understood, teaching uncertainty handling or graph conventions as skills, reading the published criteria with the student, reading what the student has produced and saying which band it sits in and why, asking the questions a good supervisor would ask, and teaching the student how to find and cite a source. All of that is ordinary teaching, and it is what moves marks.

What a tutor must not do is become the author. No text for submission. No data. No graphs produced for the student to paste in. No restructuring of a report so thoroughly that the voice is no longer the student's. No supplying a research question and method ready-made. If a tutor offers any of that, the correct response is to end the arrangement, because the offer tells you what else they are prepared to do. The essay mills competing for these searches sell completed internal assessments outright; that is a malpractice trigger dressed up as a service.

There is one more boundary worth naming, because it is specific to this region. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the national private-tuition permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK policy before relying on the exact wording. The practical consequence for a Masdar City parent is simple: do not try to hire your child's own subject teacher privately, however convenient it looks.

11

Starting from Masdar City, including what we say when nobody is free

The first conversation is a consultation, not a sales call, and it is free. We ask for the subject, the level, the board and syllabus code where there is one, the school's internal deadlines, and the most recent piece of marked work. That last item is the important one. A returned script with a teacher's annotations on it tells us more in five minutes than a parent's account of the problem can in half an hour, because it shows where marks actually left the page rather than where the student felt uncertain.

Then we match on subject and level. For common combinations — IGCSE Mathematics Extended, Diploma Biology Standard Level, English — that usually happens within a few days. For the scarce ones it can take longer, and sometimes it does not happen at all this term. Environmental Systems and Societies at Higher Level, Design Technology, Film, Music and the less common language options are the names that come up. When we cannot cover something, we say so on the call rather than offering a generalist and hoping. A Biology tutor coaching an ESS investigation produces a competent piece of work that misses the criteria the course actually marks.

Where a UAE-based specialist is not available, the fallback we offer is a specialist from the wider pool, delivering the same one-to-one online lesson from a different time zone. That is disclosed before anything is booked, including what it means for scheduling, because a 19:00 slot in Abu Dhabi is a different hour elsewhere and the arrangement only works if both sides can hold it reliably. Families who would rather wait for a UAE-based match are told how long that is likely to be.

Two practical notes for this address. Keep the slot after half past five if your child travels to Khalifa City or the island, because a four o'clock session with a student who has been awake since half past five produces very little. And if the request concerns an investigation or an exploration, start the block eight weeks before the school's deadline rather than two; the difference between those two timings is the difference between improving a draft and rescuing one.

Where we tutor

Masdar City and the districts its school buses actually serve

A Masdar City address sits between the airport, Khalifa City and the Mohammed Bin Zayed corridor, and the school run points outward in three directions. These are the districts that matter when you are working out what time a lesson can realistically start.

Khalifa City

The nearest concentration of large campuses, and where a high share of Masdar City children are enrolled. A morning pick-up well before seven and a return in the late afternoon is the normal pattern, which puts the first workable slot after half past five.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Villa and apartment communities with an authorised IB continuum school among them. Students here often come home later than the Khalifa City group because of activity blocks that run straight after the final bell.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Large mainland district with a wide curriculum spread, including Indian-board and MoE-curriculum schools alongside international ones. Masdar City families with children in two different systems frequently have one child here and one elsewhere.

Al Reef

Airport-corridor community a short drive from Masdar City, with its own school provision. The commute is modest by Abu Dhabi standards, so the evening is less compressed and a six o'clock session holds well through the term.

Yas Island

Event weeks visibly change the shape of a term here. Families keep a weekly slot and move it rather than cancelling, which is the practical argument for a format that does not depend on anyone travelling.

Saadiyat Island

British and IB provision on the cultural district, reached from Masdar City across the island road network. The run is long enough that a tutor driving in both directions would be charging for most of an hour of road time.

Al Reem Island

Dense tower community with school provision on the island itself. A Masdar City family with a child at a Reem campus is looking at a cross-island run twice a day, and an evening that starts late.

Al Bateen and the Corniche

Established island districts with long-standing British and IB schools. The distance from Masdar City is the reason families at this address stopped filtering tutors by neighbourhood and started filtering them by subject.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Masdar City

Khalifa City and the airport corridor

The cluster most Masdar City children are actually enrolled in. It carries both the IB continuum and the English National Curriculum route to IGCSE, which is why a single household here can have one child on criteria marked 1-8 and another on a 9-1 grade scale in the same term.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • Emirates National School, Mohammed Bin Zayed campus
  • Al Bateen Academy

The island and the cultural district

Reached from Masdar City by a run long enough to rule out most in-person arrangements on a school night. Named here because Masdar City students are enrolled across these campuses, not because of any relationship between the schools and IB Gram.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Al Muna Academy

Schools are named as the ecosystem a Masdar City student actually studies in; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school or group is implied, and every school listing should be checked against ADEK's own published directory.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the last marked script

Before anything is booked, send the most recent returned paper or coursework draft with the teacher's comments on it, plus the syllabus code if you have it. This is the diagnostic. It shows which component is losing marks and whether the problem is content, technique or timing, which decides what the first sessions should contain.

  2. 02

A free consultation with the subject in front of us

A short call to confirm the board, the level, the school's internal deadlines and what the family actually wants from the term. We say at this point whether we can cover the subject at that level, and if we cannot, we say so rather than offering a near miss.

  3. 03

A trial session on real work

The first session runs on the student's own script or draft rather than on a placement test. At the end you get a written note naming what was covered, what the student should practise and what the tutor thinks the realistic target is for the term. If the match is wrong, say so and we change it.

  4. 04

    A term-length pattern with a stop date

Agree a slot, a frequency and an end point, then review at the halfway mark against something measurable: a timed paper, a criterion band, a mock. The review can end the arrangement, and sometimes should. A pattern that drifts on without a review is how families overspend on tutoring.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the component, not the subject name

An enquiry about Physics is really an enquiry about Paper 2 extended response, or about uncertainty handling in the investigation, or about Paper 3 technique. We match on the part of the course that is losing marks, which is why the first thing we ask for is a marked script rather than a report card.

Geography stops limiting the match

Masdar City is a small residential population inside a large emirate, and the number of people nearby who have taught Higher Level Environmental Systems and Societies is effectively zero. Delivering online means the filter is the subject and the level rather than the drive, which is the only way scarce courses get covered.

Every figure carries its source

The AED bands on this page name the provider or source that published them and the month they were read. We do not publish a satisfaction percentage, a student count or a star rating, because we cannot show you the data behind one. If a tutoring page quotes a statistic with no n and no date, treat it as marketing.

The honesty line is written down before you book

Feedback on the student's own work, criterion references, questions a supervisor would ask. No text, data or graphs supplied for submission, and no syllabus documents or mark schemes sent to you. The boundary is in the arrangement from the start, because it protects the diploma your child is working towards.

Coverage limits disclosed, not concealed

When no specialist is free for a scarce subject this term, we say so on the first call and explain the alternative, including what a different time zone means for a weekly slot. Several pages competing for this search route UAE families to an overseas number without mentioning it. We would rather lose the enquiry than hide the arrangement.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Masdar City: your questions answered

Are there any private schools inside Masdar City itself?+

Masdar City is built as a research, business and free-zone district with residential buildings attached, and it does not contain a large private school campus of the kind families here need for IB or IGCSE. In practice children travel out: most commonly to Khalifa City, with others going to Al Raha, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Reef or across to the island. That is why the tutoring question at this address is usually about the evening rather than about the school. Check current provision against ADEK's own published school directory, since the emirate adds campuses regularly.

Which IB and IGCSE schools do Masdar City children usually attend?+

The nearest concentration is in Khalifa City and along the airport corridor, where both the IB continuum and the English National Curriculum route to IGCSE are available. Families from this development are also enrolled in Al Raha, on Saadiyat and on Al Reem Island. We name schools on this page as context for the student's ecosystem only; no relationship with any school or group is implied. The practical question for a tutoring plan is not which school but what time the bus returns, because that decides whether a five o'clock or a six o'clock slot is realistic.

Can a Masdar City student get a tutor for Environmental Systems and Societies?+

Sometimes, and we will tell you honestly before you book. Environmental Systems and Societies is a small-entry course, it was rewritten for first assessment in 2026, and Higher Level is new, so the number of people who have taught the current specification is genuinely small. Matching across a wide pool rather than a local one is what makes coverage possible at all. If no specialist is free in a given term we say so on the first call rather than offering a Biology tutor to coach it, because a generalist will coach it as a science and miss the criteria that actually carry marks.

How much should a Masdar City family expect to pay for Diploma science tutoring?+

Market rates read in October 2026 put a qualified online subject tutor at roughly AED 150-300 an hour and an IB or IGCSE specialist at AED 200-450 or more, with in-home one-to-one running AED 180-500 because travel sits inside the rate. Those are figures other providers published, not ours. A Higher Level specialist costs more largely because the pool is small. Our own arrangement starts with a free consultation and a trial session, and what applies to your child depends on the subject, the level and how scarce that specialism is.

Do tutors come to apartments in Masdar City?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not run in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. For a Masdar City family every lesson is delivered online, one to one, over live video, with the student's own script or draft on a shared screen. The in-home market does exist here and publishes rates of roughly AED 180-500 an hour, and for some families in some districts that is the right choice. From this address the drive is long enough that a visiting tutor commits two to three hours to a sixty-minute lesson, which is why the comparison usually settles the way it does.

What is the collaborative sciences project, and can a tutor help with it?+

It replaced the Group 4 project in the 2023 science guides. Every Diploma science student takes part, it asks around ten hours, and it is not separately marked, which is exactly why it gets dropped by a tired student in a busy term. A tutor can help the student plan their contribution, understand what the school expects and manage the time, but the work itself is collaborative and belongs to the group. Because it carries no marks of its own, a missing project becomes a programme compliance problem rather than a grade problem, and those are harder to fix late.

My child has no usable data for the scientific investigation. Is it too late?+

It depends on how far the school's internal deadline is away, and that is the first thing to establish. With eight weeks there is time to reframe the research question so that the data already collected can answer it, or to design a smaller second run that is actually completable. With two weeks the honest work is salvaging the analysis, conclusion and evaluation criteria from what exists, which is still twelve of the twenty-four marks. What a tutor cannot do is supply data or produce the write-up. Bring the current draft and the criteria to the first session.

How many hours does a Diploma science subject usually need?+

There is no single answer, but a useful planning frame is this: a weekly sixty-minute session through DP2 is roughly thirty hours, and a coursework block on the investigation is four to eight sessions timed to the school deadline. Students who are losing marks to technique rather than knowledge often need less than their parents expect, and a short block followed by a review beats a standing commitment from September. Agree a stop date and a halfway review against something measurable, such as a timed paper or a criterion band, so the arrangement does not drift.

Khalifa University is in Masdar City. Does that change our subject choices?+

Only in the sense that the destination's own published requirements should drive the decision, and having a university nearby makes those easy to read. Whether a student needs Mathematics Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at which level, is settled on the admissions page of the actual course they want, not on a general rule. We will not tell you what any university requires, because requirements change and because tutoring is not a route into admission. Read the university's own page, then choose, then plan the support around that choice.

How do I find out which exam board my child's IGCSE science is on?+

Read the statement of entry, which the school issues for each series, and write the code down. Cambridge codes look like 0625, 0620 and 0654; Pearson International GCSE codes look like 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1. If the statement has not been issued yet, ask the examinations officer rather than the subject teacher, since entries are an examinations-office function. The code decides which past papers are worth doing and which revision material is relevant, so buying anything before you have it is a gamble on a coin toss.

Can lessons start after the Khalifa City school bus gets back to Masdar City?+

Yes, and for most families at this address that is the only pattern that works. A child who boards a bus before seven in the morning is not usefully teachable at four in the afternoon. The slots that hold through a whole term from Masdar City tend to start between half past five and seven, with a later start in DP2 where activity blocks run after the final bell. Pick the slot you can defend every week for a term rather than the earliest one that is technically free, because consistency does more than frequency.

Does online tutoring actually work for laboratory subjects?+

For the assessed skills, yes. Almost nothing that earns marks in IGCSE or Diploma science is manual dexterity. The marks go to method design, variable control, uncertainty handling, data processing, graph conventions, conclusions supported by accepted values and evaluation that explains effect. All of that is paper work, and all of it is reviewable on a shared screen with the student's own data visible to both people. Cambridge's alternative-to-practical paper, used by most international centres, tests exactly those written skills. The hands-on laboratory work belongs to the school, and it stays there.

What does ADEK actually do about my child's school in Abu Dhabi?+

The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes inspection outcomes, according to the UAE government's own information portal. In practice that means it decides whether a school may operate, inspects it, and publishes a judgement you can read before you choose a tutor. An inspection band describes a whole school, not your child's set in one subject, so a strong overall judgement tells you very little about whether Higher Level Chemistry is well covered in that building. Read the subject-level commentary inside the report instead.

What happens if no tutor covers the subject my Masdar City child needs?+

We tell you on the first call. For scarce courses — Environmental Systems and Societies at Higher Level, Design Technology, Film, some language options — a UAE-based specialist may not be free in a given term. The alternative we offer is a specialist from the wider pool delivering the same one-to-one online lesson from another time zone, disclosed before anything is booked, including what it means for holding a weekly slot. If you would rather wait for a UAE-based match, we tell you roughly how long that is likely to take. We do not substitute a generalist quietly.

Can one tutor cover both Physics HL and Mathematics AA HL for a Masdar City student?+

Occasionally, and it is worth asking, because the content overlap at Higher Level is real and a single tutor can save a scheduling slot. More often it is better to split them. Physics Higher Level and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level both have their own component technique — the extended-response style in one, Paper 3 in the other — and somebody who has taught both to the current specification is rarer than somebody who has taught either. We would rather put two specialists on the two subjects than one competent generalist on both.

Start with the marked script, not the subject name

If you are in Masdar City and weighing up support for a Diploma or IGCSE student, the useful first step costs nothing: find the most recent returned paper or coursework draft, find the syllabus code, and find the school's internal deadline for the investigation or exploration. Send those three things and we will tell you what the problem actually is, whether we can cover it at the level your child is working at, and what a term of work should realistically achieve. Lessons are delivered online, one to one, over live video. If we cannot cover the subject, we will say so on the call.
