IB Maths Tutor in Masdar City

Searching for an IB maths tutor in Masdar City turns up an odd result: this is one of the few neighbourhoods in Abu Dhabi full of people who are genuinely good at mathematics, and almost none of them have marked an IB paper. Masdar City is a research and clean-technology district built around a university campus, with a small residential population. This page explains why knowing maths and knowing IB maths are different jobs, and how live one-to-one online lessons solve the actual problem.

  • Matched by IB route and level, not by who lives on the campus
  • Tutors who work to the IB mark scheme, not just the mathematics
  • Live one-to-one video — IB Gram runs no UAE home visits
  • Free trial lesson worked on your child's own marked script

IB & IGCSE in Masdar City

Masdar City has plenty of mathematicians and very few IB maths teachers

Masdar City sits near Abu Dhabi International Airport and was built as a clean-technology and research district: a university campus at its centre, the International Renewable Energy Agency headquarters, engineering and energy firms, a pedestrian-first street plan and a residential population that is small and skews towards researchers, postgraduates and professionals. It is, statistically, one of the most mathematically literate square kilometres in the emirate.

That produces a specific false comfort. A parent here can reasonably think the problem is solved locally. There is an engineer in the next apartment, a doctoral researcher on the floor above, a lecturer two buildings over. Any of them can differentiate a composite function, and several of them will offer to help. Then the first marked paper comes back from school and the grade has not moved, because the student was never confused about the mathematics.

The reason is worth stating precisely. An IB maths grade is not awarded for getting the right answer. It is awarded against a mark scheme that pays for visible method, for a stated model before a calculator result, for conclusions phrased in the context of the question, and for a particular structure in Paper 3 investigations. A practising engineer solves the problem in three mental steps and writes the answer, which is exactly the behaviour that loses method marks. They are not wrong about the maths. They are unfamiliar with how it is paid for.

Then there is the exploration, which carries roughly a fifth of the grade and is marked on five published criteria including personal engagement and reflection. Those criteria reward things no research career trains you to produce in a school assessment, and a student handed excellent technical advice on an exploration that is scoring badly on reflection has been helped in the wrong direction.

So the honest answer to "is there an IB maths tutor in Masdar City" is that there are capable mathematicians here and a very thin supply of people who teach the IB courses and read the mark schemes. IB Gram closes that gap online. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE — that is an India-only service — and the lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor chosen for the route and level your child sits.

There is a practical point too. Masdar City has no school inside it, so every family here commutes, most often towards the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor. That corridor is close enough that an afternoon session is genuinely possible, which is not true of much of this part of the emirate, and it is worth knowing before you assume lessons have to run late.

What follows is the detail: the route decision between the two courses, what a marked script reveals that a conversation cannot, the Paper 3 structure problem at Higher Level, what makes an exploration topic workable rather than merely ambitious, what the Abu Dhabi market charges for each kind of purchase in AED, and what we do when nobody suitable is free. Read it and you will know what to ask any maths tutor here before paying for an hour.

At a glance

  • Masdar City is a research district with a small residential population and no school inside it
  • Mathematical ability and IB mark-scheme fluency are different competencies
  • The exploration carries roughly a fifth of the grade across both routes and levels
  • Paper 3 at Higher Level examines structure and endurance, not topic recall
  • Published market rates: AED 150–300 online qualified, AED 180–500 in-home
  • IB Gram teaches Masdar City students online only, one tutor to one student
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IB maths need looks different at each stage, and Masdar City families are usually at one of two of them: the step into the Diploma, or inside it. These are the stages that matter.

MYPAges 11–16 · Years 7–11

Middle Years Programme mathematics

MYP maths is assessed against four criteria — knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts — each marked out of 8 and converted to a 1 to 7 grade on school-set boundaries. There are no timed external papers unless the school enters eAssessment, so students build investigation skill and very little speed.

Families in a research district often have children who are conceptually strong and slow under timing, because nothing in the MYP has asked them to be fast. The Diploma asks immediately. Six to eight sessions across the spring of Year 11, spent on timed work and on presenting method for a mark scheme, is the cheapest version of this fix.

DPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

Diploma Programme mathematics

Every Diploma student takes one Group 5 maths course: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at Higher or Standard Level. Standard Level sits two papers, Higher Level three, with the third consisting of extended multi-part investigations. An individual exploration carries roughly a fifth of the final grade in every combination.

Abu Dhabi schools enter the May session. IB exam and results dates are set and periodically revised by the IB, and we publish none of them here — confirm every date through your school's IB coordinator. The dates that actually govern a maths term are the school's internal deadlines for the exploration, which fall well before anything external does.

CPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

Career-related Programme with a DP maths course

A Career-related Programme student takes at least two Diploma courses alongside a career-related study, and maths is commonly one. The course and its assessment are identical to the full Diploma version, including the exploration, so nothing about the teaching changes.

The need here is a single course taken to a defensible grade, usually Applications and Interpretation at Standard Level. One subject a week is not enough work to attract a resident generalist, which is precisely the case where a national online pool is the practical answer rather than the clever-sounding one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the parts of IB mathematics Masdar City families ask about, with where marks actually go in each. Both routes, both levels.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

Higher Level

Algebra, functions, trigonometry, calculus and proof at depth, plus Paper 3's two extended investigations. Technically strong students lose marks here to compressed working rather than to the mathematics itself.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Standard Level

The analytical spine with less breadth across two papers. Differentiation and integration applied in context are the usual losses, along with answers presented without the steps a marker needs to see.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Higher Level

Modelling, statistics, graph theory and technology-led problem solving, with Paper 3 built on extended data tasks. The calculator is examined, and unexplained calculator output earns a fraction of the marks offered.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

Standard Level

Statistics, financial maths, functions and modelling across two papers. Marks go on reporting a statistical result without interpreting it in the context the question set up.

The maths exploration

Both routes, both levels

Twelve to twenty pages of independent mathematical writing, marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Technically impressive explorations routinely score poorly on reflection.

Calculus

HL and SL, AA especially

Limits, differentiation, integration, kinematics and differential equations at HL. The reliable loss is rules used in combination, and integration attempted without first naming the substitution being used.

Statistics and inference

HL and SL, AI especially

Distributions, hypothesis testing, correlation and regression, with more advanced inference at AI HL. Marks go on choosing the right test and reporting hypotheses and conclusions in context rather than generically.

Proof and reasoning

AA, mainly HL

Direct proof, contradiction, induction and counterexample. Induction is highly structured: students score nearly everything or nearly nothing, and the fix is learning the required structure rather than understanding induction better.

Modelling and justification

Both routes

Fitting a model to data and defending the choice. Technology finds a model in seconds; the marks are for saying why that model and not another, which is the step confident students skip.

Graphic display calculator technique

Both routes, both levels

Mode settings, commands, statistical functions, and recording enough that a correct display earns full credit. One session here routinely returns more marks than a topic re-teach, and almost nobody sells it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Masdar City families work on IB maths with us, all live over video, all built around a marked script rather than a syllabus.

Weekly route-specialist teaching

A fixed slot with a tutor whose main course is your child's route and level, working a week ahead of the school's scheme. This is what moves a grade across a term, because the same person meets the same error twice and treats the cause rather than the instance.

  • Same tutor and slot, 60 or 90 minutes
  • Route-specific: AA or AI, Higher or Standard
  • Planned against your school's own assessment dates

Mark-scheme technique work

Short, intense work on how marks are actually awarded: visible method, stated models before calculator output, conclusions in context, and calculator discipline. The highest-return block available to a conceptually strong student whose grade is not matching their ability.

  • Starts from a marked script, not the textbook
  • Targets presentation and method, not content
  • Two or three sessions often show on the next paper

Exploration coaching

Blocks across a term on the maths exploration, worked criterion by criterion. The tutor reads the student's own draft, questions the mathematics and the reflection, and sets the next revision. Nothing is written, chosen or edited to completion for the student.

  • Criterion-aware feedback on the student's own draft
  • Topic viability tested before the writing starts
  • Timed to the school's internal deadline, not ours

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Masdar City

01

Is there an IB maths specialist in Masdar City? The honest answer

No, in any meaningful sense, and the reason is structural rather than reflecting badly on the district. Masdar City was built as a research and clean-technology hub around a university campus, with a small residential population and no school inside its boundary. Teaching the IB Diploma for a living is a specific occupation, and it clusters where schools are — in the Khalifa City belt, in the island school districts, in Mohammed Bin Zayed City.

What Masdar City does have in unusual density is mathematical competence. Engineers, energy researchers, postgraduate students and lecturers, many of whom will happily help a neighbour's child with calculus and most of whom have never seen an IB mark scheme. That is a genuinely useful resource for understanding a concept and a poor one for recovering a grade, and the distinction is the single most useful thing on this page.

Apply the filter stack honestly and the arithmetic is quick. Take the residential population. Take the fraction who teach school mathematics as their job. Take the fraction of those teaching the IB Diploma rather than another curriculum. Take the fraction covering your child's route at your child's level with a free slot after the school run. Four filters on a small base returns close to zero.

Widening the search to Abu Dhabi returns a real but thin pool, mostly resident in the Khalifa City corridor and pricing their journey into any in-home rate. Widening it to an online pool returns a comfortable number of route specialists. That is the trade this page is about, and the table sets it out.

Knowing maths and knowing IB maths are different jobs

  • Mark schemes pay for visible method, not only for correct answers
  • Professional habits compress working, which is exactly what loses method marks
  • Explorations usually fail on reflection and notation, not on mathematical depth
  • Use local help for concepts, a route specialist for the grade

This is the section worth reading twice if you live in a research district. An IB maths mark is not paid for the right answer. It is paid against a published mark scheme, and the scheme pays separately for method, for the model that produced a calculator result, for conclusions phrased in the context the question established, and in Paper 3 for sustaining a structured argument across many parts.

A practising engineer or researcher has spent years optimising in the opposite direction. They compress steps, trust the machine, state the result and move on, because in professional work the result is the product. Transfer that habit to an IB script and the student loses method marks on almost every multi-step question while being completely correct. The help was real and it was aimed at a problem the student did not have.

The same mismatch shows on the exploration, more expensively. It is marked on five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection, and the use of mathematics. Technical advice improves the last one, which is already the strength of a student in this household. The marks are being lost on reflection — genuine commentary on what the mathematics showed and where it broke down — and on notation consistency. A researcher's instinct is to make the mathematics more impressive, which raises nothing and sometimes pushes the topic past what the student can explain.

None of this makes local help worthless. Use it for understanding and use a route specialist for the grade. They are complementary, and knowing which is which saves a term.

03

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation

The route decision matters more in a household oriented towards engineering and science, because the default assumption is Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and that assumption is sometimes wrong. AA is algebraic and proof-oriented, built on calculus and manipulation. AI is modelling and statistical, built on using technology to make sense of real data. AI at Higher Level is demanding and many students find it harder than AA at Standard Level.

Decide on two inputs. Aptitude: a student who enjoys a clean algebraic argument belongs in AA; one who reasons well about real quantities and finds abstract manipulation thankless belongs in AI. And destination: engineering, physics, mathematics and economics courses frequently specify AA at Higher Level and some will not accept AI for them. Business, social science, design and many life-science courses accept either.

University requirements vary by institution and change over time, so the only reliable action is to read the admissions pages for the specific universities on the student's list. That includes the universities in this country, which publish their own entry requirements. No tutoring page, including this one, should be the source for an admissions rule.

If the route is fixed and wrong, raise it early. A change in DP1 is a manageable piece of work. The same change in DP2 is not, and the alternative — a student grinding through two years of mathematics they dislike for a grade that does not match their ability — is a worse outcome than the switch would have been.

What a marked script tells you that a conversation cannot

  • Send marked scripts, not a description of the difficulty
  • Most maths problems resolve to four or five nameable behaviours
  • A route specialist names them in an hour; a mathematician explains the topic
  • The trial lesson exists to produce that list, whatever you do with it

The first thing we ask Masdar City families for is not a description of the problem. It is the last two marked maths assessments with the teacher's annotations. The reason is that parents and students describe maths difficulty in terms of topics, and marked scripts show something different and much more actionable: a short list of repeating, nameable behaviours.

A typical list runs to four or five items and looks nothing like a syllabus. Three steps done mentally and one line written. A calculator left in the wrong angle mode for an entire paper. A statistical conclusion stated correctly in general terms and never tied to the context of the question. A diagram not drawn on a bearings question. A model produced by technology with no sentence explaining why that model. Each of those is specific, each is fixable, and none of them is "weak at trigonometry".

This is also the fastest way to judge a tutor. Give any prospective maths tutor a marked script and an hour. A route specialist comes out of it naming the four behaviours and what each costs. A capable mathematician who does not teach the course comes out of it explaining the trigonometry, which the student already understood. You will have learned which you are buying before you commit to anything.

The free trial lesson is structured to produce exactly that output, and some families take the list, hand it to the school, and spend nothing further. That is a legitimate result and we would rather it happened than sell a term of hours against a problem nobody has named.

05

Paper 3 and the Higher Level structure problem

Higher Level students sit a third paper that behaves unlike anything else in the course: two long, heavily scaffolded investigations rather than a set of questions. What it examines is the ability to sustain a line of reasoning across many parts, where part (f) depends on having set up part (b) in a usable form. Topic knowledge alone does not carry it.

The failure mode is consistent and it is not about mathematics. A student answers the early parts correctly, in a compressed form that was fine for a short question, and then cannot use their own earlier work when the later parts ask them to extend it. They lose the thread around part (c) or (d) and never recover it, having been entirely capable of every individual step.

This is a structural skill and it is learned by practising whole papers under timing, with the specific discipline of writing early parts in a form the later parts can build on. Three or four complete attempts, marked properly and discussed, changes it. Doing Paper 3 questions in isolation does not, because the thing being examined is the connection between them rather than any one of them.

For Standard Level students none of this applies — there is no Paper 3 — and the time is better spent on calculator discipline and on presenting method. Knowing which of these two situations your child is in is a precondition for spending money sensibly.

Choosing an exploration topic that can actually score

Exploration topics in households like these tend to be ambitious, and ambition is the commonest cause of a poor mark. The exploration is twelve to twenty pages marked on five criteria, and the heaviest of them rewards mathematics appropriate to the level, used correctly. A topic whose mathematics is above the course is as damaging as one below it, because the student cannot explain it and reflection collapses.

The topics that score well are narrow, personal and tractable. One phenomenon, one mathematical treatment, data the student can genuinely obtain or generate, and enough depth to reach the level of the course without exceeding what the student can discuss. A topic that can be stated in a sentence and investigated in fifteen pages is a good sign. A topic that needs a paragraph of background before anyone understands the question is usually too large.

The topics that fail are recognisable too. Anything requiring university mathematics the student has not met. Anything with a data set so large the analysis becomes a software exercise. Anything where the mathematics is a decoration on a topic the student chose for interest rather than for mathematical content. And anything where the student cannot answer the question "what did the mathematics tell you that you did not know before?", because that question is the reflection criterion in plain words.

What a tutor may do here is question the topic's viability, explain what each criterion rewards, read the student's own draft and name the criterion it undersells, and teach notation and citation. What a tutor may not do is choose the topic and hand it over, write or rewrite any part of the text, edit to completion, supply data the student did not generate, or produce a model exploration for adaptation. The student signs the authenticity declaration.

What the market charges, and what "near me" costs

Published rates in this market, read in October 2026, run as follows. Budget online tutoring, typically a university student, sits at AED 45 to 150 an hour. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at AED 150 to 300. An in-home one-to-one visit sits at AED 180 to 500 with the journey inside the fee. A named IB or A-Level specialist sits at AED 200 to 450 and above, and premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650. On a monthly basis Bestimate's 2026 estimates put mid-range weekly sessions at AED 600 to 1,200.

The interesting figure for Masdar City is the in-home premium, because of where the tutors are. A resident tutor in the Khalifa City corridor driving to Masdar City is covering a real distance on the airport road, and that journey sits inside the quoted rate. The gap between the online and in-home bands is roughly AED 30 to 200 an hour, and in this part of the emirate that gap is paying for the drive rather than for teaching.

A budget tutor in a district like this is a particular false economy. The thing the student needs is mark-scheme fluency, which is precisely what the cheapest tier does not have, and the district already supplies conceptual help for free. Paying AED 60 an hour for a university student to explain calculus to a child of engineers is the one purchase in this market with no plausible return.

IB Gram publishes no hourly price here. There is a free trial lesson and a consultation, and the figure follows once the route, level and frequency are settled. These figures are the market's, included so that you can price any quote you receive, including ours.

Online into a Masdar City apartment, and the honest fallback

Stated plainly, since this page targets a local search: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. No tutor will travel to a Masdar City address. In-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. Lessons are live one-to-one video with a route specialist, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.

For maths that holds up well on one condition: the tutor must see handwritten working as it happens, through a camera angled at paper or a tablet and stylus. We set that up in the first session. With it, video has real advantages — a shared whiteboard retains every derivation so last week's integration can be reopened rather than reconstructed, the exact past-paper question is pasted onto the board, and the student works on their own paper in their own handwriting, which is what the exam asks for.

On coverage, the honest position. The common routes and levels are well covered and a trial is usually arranged within a week. Narrow Higher Level combinations are thinner. If the right specialist is not free we say so before you pay, and set out the options: wait for a slot, start on the exploration with a specialist in that component, or take a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus and works to your evening. If a tutor is not UAE-based you are told before the trial lesson rather than after.

That disclosure matters because several providers in this market route UAE parents to numbers outside the country without saying where the teaching comes from. We would rather lose a booking than have a parent discover it in week three.

Where we tutor

Masdar City and where its students actually go to school

No school sits inside Masdar City, so every family here commutes. Because our lessons are online, the same route specialist is available regardless of which direction that commute runs.

Masdar City

A clean-technology and research district near the airport, built around a university campus, with a pedestrian-first plan and a small residential population of researchers, postgraduates and professionals. No private school inside it.

Khalifa City

The nearest dense school belt and the default enrolment choice for Masdar families. Also where most Abu Dhabi resident tutors live, which matters when pricing any in-home arrangement.

Al Raha Beach

Waterfront apartments and townhouses on the airport road, close to Masdar and to the Al Raha Gardens schools. One of the shorter school runs available from here.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community with international schools immediately adjacent. A common destination for Masdar City children and one of the few short commutes in this part of the emirate.

Al Reef

Affordable villas and apartments by the airport, popular with school staff. Close to Masdar City and a genuine part of the local tutor supply, such as it is.

Yas Island

Newer British-curriculum schools on a leisure island north of the airport road. A real commute from Masdar City, which pushes any afternoon session later.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Dense mainland grid with a broad curriculum mix and a large school population. Reachable from Masdar City and a frequent choice for families wanting a wider school field.

Shakhbout City

Villa community in the Khalifa City corridor with its own school access. Often considered alongside Khalifa City by families moving out of Masdar as children reach Diploma age.

Saadiyat Island

Cultural district with a small number of well-known international schools. A long run from Masdar City, so enrolment here means an evening tutoring slot rather than an afternoon one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Masdar City

The Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the route and the level

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard, plus the school. Those facts decide which tutor is worth proposing. A request for general IB maths help cannot be matched properly and usually ends with a generalist.

  2. 02

Send the last two marked scripts

With the teacher's annotations, and a draft exploration if one exists. Marked scripts show repeating behaviours; descriptions show topics. The behaviours are what a tutor can actually change, and they are usually not what the family expected.

  3. 03

Use the free trial as a diagnosis

A real hour on that script. At the end, ask the tutor to name the four behaviours costing marks and what each one is worth. A route specialist will; a capable mathematician who does not teach the course will explain the topic instead.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and the first block

A weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time and an agreed plan: technique first, then topics, then the exploration against the school's internal deadline. Sessions move post-Iftar during Ramadan and pause across school exam weeks.

  5. 05

Review against the next marked assessment

The measure is external — the next school assessment or mock. If the same behaviours are still there we change the approach or the tutor rather than adding hours. Masdar City families tend to appreciate a stated test condition.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Mark-scheme fluency is the selection criterion

We match on who teaches the IB route and reads its mark schemes, not on who is good at mathematics. In a research district that is the gap, because mathematical ability is already locally abundant and free.

Diagnosis from marked scripts

The first hour works on your child's own script and produces a named list of repeating behaviours. Some families take the list, hand it to the school and stop there, which is a legitimate outcome and one we would rather have than a blind term of hours.

Route specialists, not maths generalists

AA and AI are different mathematics needing different teaching strengths. Online delivery means the pool is not restricted to people who can drive the airport road to Masdar City after the school run.

A stated boundary on the exploration

We question topic viability, explain criteria and give feedback on the student's own draft. We do not choose topics, write, rewrite or edit to completion, or supply a model exploration. The student signs the authenticity declaration.

Market rates with their sources

The AED figures here are other providers' published rates and Bestimate's 2026 table, read in October 2026, given as the market and not as our price list. You can price any quote before speaking to us.

Coverage limits disclosed before payment

If the right specialist for a narrow Higher Level request is not free, you are told, with the alternatives named, including whether the tutor would be based outside the UAE. No provider in this market publishes a coverage limit.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Masdar City: your questions answered

Are there any IB maths tutors actually living in Masdar City?+

Very few, and the reason is structural. Masdar City was built as a research and clean-technology district around a university campus, with a small residential population and no school inside its boundary. People who teach the IB Diploma for a living cluster where schools are, mainly the Khalifa City corridor and the island school districts. What Masdar City has in abundance is mathematical ability — engineers, researchers, postgraduates — which is a different thing from IB teaching, and the distinction is what this page exists to make.

Our neighbour is an engineer. Why would we pay for a maths tutor?+

Because an IB maths mark is not awarded for the right answer. It is awarded against a mark scheme that pays separately for visible method, for the model behind a calculator result, and for conclusions phrased in the question's context. Professional practice trains the opposite habit: compress the steps, trust the machine, state the result. Transfer that to an IB script and the student loses method marks while being entirely correct. Use the neighbour for understanding a concept; use a route specialist when the grade is not matching the ability.

Why does my child understand the maths but still score badly?+

Almost always presentation rather than understanding. Marked scripts from conceptually strong students show the same short list: several steps done mentally with one line written, a calculator left in the wrong mode, a statistical conclusion stated generically rather than tied to the context given, a model produced by technology with no sentence justifying the choice. Each loses marks the student had earned. Two or three sessions of a tutor refusing to accept compressed working changes it, and the gain shows on the next marked paper rather than months later.

Is Analysis and Approaches the right default for an engineering household?+

Often, but not automatically. AA is algebraic and proof-oriented; Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistical, and AI at Higher Level is demanding enough that many students find it harder than AA at Standard Level. Decide on the student's aptitude and on what their intended degrees require: engineering, physics, mathematics and economics courses frequently specify AA at Higher Level, while business, social sciences and many life sciences accept either. Requirements vary by institution and change, so read the admissions pages for the universities actually on the list.

What makes Paper 3 at Higher Level different from the other two papers?+

It is two long, heavily scaffolded investigations rather than a set of questions, and it examines the ability to sustain reasoning across many parts, where a later part depends on having set up an earlier one usably. Topic knowledge alone does not carry it: students answer the early parts correctly in a compressed form, then cannot build on their own work and lose the thread around part (c). Three or four complete attempts under timing, marked and discussed, fixes it. Isolated Paper 3 questions do not, because the connection is the thing examined.

How should a Masdar City student choose an exploration topic?+

Narrow, personal and tractable. One phenomenon, one mathematical treatment, data the student can genuinely obtain or generate, and depth that reaches the course level without exceeding what they can discuss. A topic statable in one sentence is a good sign. Ambition is the commonest cause of a poor mark here: mathematics above the course caps the heaviest criterion because the student cannot explain it, and reflection then collapses. Test any candidate topic against one question — what did the mathematics tell you that you did not know? — before committing to it.

How far can a tutor go in helping with the maths exploration?+

A tutor may question whether the topic can carry mathematics at the right level, explain what each of the five criteria rewards, read the student's own draft and name the criterion it undersells, teach notation and citation, and discuss the mathematics as mathematics. A tutor may not choose the topic and hand it over, write or rewrite any part of the text, edit a draft to completion, supply data the student did not generate, or produce a model exploration for adaptation. The student signs the authenticity declaration, so the boundary protects them.

Will an IB maths tutor come to a Masdar City address?+

Not from us. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time. For maths the format works provided the tutor can see handwritten working as it happens, via a camera on paper or a tablet and stylus, which we set up in the first session. The practical gain is that the tutor is chosen for the IB route and level rather than for willingness to drive the airport road after the school run.

What does an IB maths tutor cost in this part of Abu Dhabi?+

Published market figures read in October 2026: budget online tutoring at AED 45 to 150 an hour, a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300, an in-home visit at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate, a named IB or A-Level specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above, and premium examiner-led provision reaching AED 650. Monthly, Bestimate's 2026 estimates give AED 600 to 1,200 for mid-range weekly sessions. Those are the market's numbers; ours follow a free trial and a consultation.

Is a budget online tutor worth trying first in a district like this?+

It is the one purchase here with least plausible return. The thing a conceptually strong student needs is mark-scheme fluency, and the cheapest tier is the tier least likely to have it. Meanwhile the conceptual help a budget tutor does provide is already available locally for nothing, from engineers and researchers who will gladly explain calculus. Paying AED 60 an hour to duplicate the free resource while leaving the actual gap untouched is the specific trap this neighbourhood falls into.

Which schools do Masdar City families usually commute to?+

The nearest belt is the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, which is short enough that an afternoon session remains realistic — unusual in this part of the emirate. Families wanting a particular programme rather than a short journey enrol further out, on the islands or across the city, which pushes any tutoring slot into the evening. Because our lessons are online the commute direction does not affect which tutor is available, only which slot is. We ask for the arrival time rather than the school finish time when planning it.

What happens if no tutor covers my child's exact route and level?+

You are told before you pay. Standard Level AA and AI are well covered and a trial is usually arranged within a few days. Higher Level is in demand and can take up to a week. Specialist Paper 3 work is narrower, and we say so rather than offering a near miss. The alternatives are named: wait for a slot, begin on exploration coaching or technique work with a specialist in that component, or take a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus and works to your evening, disclosed before the trial.

My child came from MYP maths and is slow under exam timing. Is that normal?+

It is extremely common, and it is a change of assessment model rather than a weakness. MYP maths is marked against four criteria through extended investigations, with no timed external papers unless the school enters eAssessment. A student can be conceptually excellent and genuinely inexperienced at speed and at presenting method for a marker. The Diploma asks for both immediately. Six to eight sessions on timed work and mark-scheme presentation bridge it, and placed in the spring of Year 11 they cost less and arrive earlier than the same work in DP1.

Does IB Gram have any approval from ADEK or the IB?+

No. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. ADEK is named on this page because it licenses and inspects the private schools Masdar City children attend, and parents should know who the regulator is. Any provider describing its tutors as approved by a regulator is claiming a permit issued to institutions with premises; ask for the permit number and check it.

What should we send before the free trial lesson?+

The route and level — AA or AI, Higher or Standard — the school name, the last two marked maths assessments with the teacher's comments, and a draft exploration if one exists. Also the time your child is actually home, since that decides which slots are real rather than aspirational. With those in hand the trial hour works on a real script, and at the end you can ask the tutor to name the four behaviours costing marks. Whether they can is the most useful thing you will learn that week.

The honest answer for Masdar City

Masdar City is full of people who can do the mathematics and nearly empty of people who teach the IB courses, which is why a child here can understand everything and still score below their ability. The gap is mark-scheme fluency, not mathematics. We match an IB route specialist to your child's course and level, work from their own marked scripts, and teach over live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time — IB Gram offers no home visits in the UAE. Send the route, the level and two marked papers, and take a free trial lesson that produces a named list of what is costing marks.
