IB Home Tutor in Masdar City

Searching for an IB home tutor in Masdar City gets you a list of people, not evidence that any of them can teach the Diploma. Masdar City is a compact low-carbon district beside the airport with no private school inside it, so proximity proves nothing. This page gives you six questions that separate a Diploma specialist from a general tutor, and explains why IB Gram delivers the lessons live online instead.

  • Six verification questions you can ask any tutor before paying
  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time
  • Tutors matched to IB route and level, not to a drive time
  • Free trial lesson, with a written note on what was found

IB & IGCSE in Masdar City

The problem with hiring a tutor in a district with no school

Masdar City is an unusual address to tutor into. It is a planned low-carbon district next to Abu Dhabi International Airport, built around a university campus, a free zone and the offices of energy and technology firms. The streets are shaded and walkable, the residential stock is apartments rather than villas, and there is no private K-12 school inside the district. Every school-age child here travels out, most often into the Khalifa City corridor or Mohammed Bin Zayed City.

That has a direct consequence for finding a tutor. In a community built around a school, the nearest competent person is often a teacher from that school, and local word of mouth carries real information. Masdar City has no such channel. The adults nearby are engineers, researchers and free-zone employees, and the tutoring adverts that surface for the district are placed by agencies based elsewhere in the emirate. Nothing about the distance tells you whether the person understands the Diploma.

Families here tend to be comfortable with that framing, because many of them assess suppliers for a living. The useful question is not where is the nearest tutor but what evidence exists that this tutor can teach the course. That evidence is cheap to collect and almost nobody collects it, which is why this page leads with six questions rather than with a sales pitch. The questions work on any provider in the emirate, and they work on us. We publish them knowing some readers will use them to hire somebody else, because a market where parents ask for specifics is a market in which subject specialists do better than generalists with a wide advert and a short drive. That is a better outcome for every family in the district.

The IB makes verification easier than most curricula, because the structure is public and specific. A Diploma course has a defined set of assessment components with published weightings, an internal assessment marked against lettered criteria, and command terms that dictate what an answer must do. Somebody who teaches it can describe all of that from memory in plain language. Somebody who has only read about it cannot, and the gap shows within two minutes of conversation.

IB Gram's own position should be stated before the checks, because it is part of the honest answer. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. For a Masdar City family, the lesson happens over live video, one student and one teacher, with a shared whiteboard and your child's own marked work on the screen. The remainder of this page covers what the in-home market actually charges, so you can judge that choice against a real number rather than a slogan.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Masdar City children sit all three IB programmes, usually at schools in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor. The programme matters because the thing that needs fixing is different in each one: criteria in the Middle Years Programme, coursework calendars in the Diploma, habits in the Primary Years.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across the groups, three at higher level, plus theory of knowledge, the extended essay and creativity, activity, service. Each subject carries an internal assessment marked against published criteria identified by letter. The final papers are only part of the picture; a weak internal assessment caps a grade before the student walks into the exam hall.

Diploma candidates living in Masdar City are commuting to Khalifa City, Al Raha or the islands, which costs them an hour of usable evening that a classmate walking home keeps. We plan around that by front-loading coursework coaching into the autumn term, when the timetable still has slack, rather than running it alongside final-paper revision in the spring.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each scored one to eight, with command terms carrying most of the weight. Students arriving from a right-answer culture score badly at first, not because the content defeats them but because a correct answer with no justification earns almost nothing. The personal project in the final year is the first extended independent work most of them meet.

In Abu Dhabi the Middle Years to Diploma step generates more tutoring requests than any other transition. A student can hold strong criterion scores and still lack the algebraic fluency that Analysis and Approaches assumes in its first fortnight. That is a specific, testable gap, and six to ten weeks of focused work usually closes it.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS to Year 6

IB Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led, with transdisciplinary units rather than subject silos, and no external examinations. Support here is about number fluency, reading stamina and the habit of explaining thinking out loud, because those are what the Middle Years Programme will start marking. Parents are often told everything is fine and then meet criterion-based marking at Year 7 with no warning.

For Masdar City families this is usually the quiet decision point. A Primary Years child here will likely move into the Middle Years Programme at the same school, so the useful work is arithmetic fluency and written explanation now, in short sessions, rather than remediation later under assessment pressure.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB courses Masdar City families ask about most. Each description names what the assessment actually tests, because that is the level of specificity a tutor should be able to match in conversation before you hire them.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic manipulation. Higher level adds Maclaurin series, differential equations and harder integration, and Paper 3 asks for an unfamiliar idea to be extended under time pressure. The marks lost are usually justification marks: a correct final answer with no visible reasoning collects less than a flawed attempt that shows method.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and deliberate use of technology. Students pick it expecting an easier ride and meet hypothesis testing, chi-squared and, at higher level, graph theory and matrices. The calculator is assessed as a skill, so a student who cannot operate their own handset at speed loses marks unrelated to mathematics.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics is the gateway and the data-analysis work is the differentiator. Uncertainty propagation, graph linearisation and error discussion are where strong students lose marks, and they are teachable in a handful of lessons because the technique is finite rather than open-ended.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms separate grades at higher level. The internal assessment causes more damage than any topic: a research question that cannot generate enough quantitative data to analyse properly caps the mark, and that is decided in September rather than discovered in February.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume is the trap and command terms are the remedy. A student who writes everything they know scores below a student who answers the verb in the question. Timed extended-response practice marked against the published scheme moves grades faster than any amount of note revision.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams carry marks and most candidates draw them incompletely, with unlabelled axes or no shifted curve. The higher-level quantitative paper is mechanical once drilled, which makes it the cheapest block of marks on the course for anyone currently avoiding it.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis under time, plus an individual oral connecting a global issue to two texts. Shape beats cleverness here: a single argument held cleanly across ten minutes outscores a sharper reading delivered without structure. Most of the gain comes from planning discipline rather than wider reading.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition and a prescribed-title essay, both marked against criteria that reward precise handling of knowledge claims. Students who treat it as an opinion piece score low. Coaching is about structure, example selection and keeping the essay anchored to the title rather than drifting into general commentary.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent piece in a chosen subject, with a supervisor and a research question that has to be answerable in that length. The commonest failure is a question too broad to answer, which is a fifteen-minute conversation in September and an unrecoverable problem in March.

Arabic as an additional language

School-mandated streams

Arabic runs alongside the IB in UAE private schools by federal requirement, and it is routinely the subject nobody plans for. Support works from the school's own scheme of work and its assessments, because additional or different content for the mandatory subjects needs Ministry permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all delivered over live video. Masdar City families pick between them mostly on how much of the week needs a fixed structure, and on whether a coursework deadline is the live problem.

Weekly one-to-one with a single specialist

One hour a week, same tutor, same slot through the term. The value compounds: by the sixth week the tutor knows which topics your child performs confidence on and which they genuinely hold, and the lesson stops being reactive. This is the default for a core Diploma subject and the format that benefits most from the short commute Masdar City offers.

  • Same specialist throughout, so the diagnosis carries week to week
  • Short written note after each lesson naming what to practise
  • Questions drawn from the student's own course materials
  • Slot held through term and moved with notice when school changes

Internal assessment and extended essay coaching

Blocks of work timed against the school's internal deadlines rather than ours. The tutor teaches method, interrogates the research question, explains how each lettered criterion is applied, and responds to drafts the student has written. The student writes every word of the submission. A tutor who goes further exposes the candidate to a malpractice finding, so ours decline.

  • Research-question clinic before data collection starts
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Referencing and data handling taught, never supplied as finished text
  • Deadlines mapped against the school's published calendar

Pre-series intensive

Four to eight weeks of concentrated paper technique rather than fresh content. It opens with a full timed paper marked against the official scheme, then groups the lost marks by cause and attacks the biggest group first. For most Diploma candidates that group is command-term misreading and incomplete working, not missing knowledge.

  • Starts with a marked timed paper, not a conversation
  • Lost marks grouped by cause, then ranked by recovery cost
  • Two or three short sessions a week in the final stretch
  • Ends with the series; no rolling commitment afterwards

01

Six questions that reveal whether a tutor really knows the IB

Ask a prospective tutor to describe the assessment structure of the exact course your child sits. Not the IB in general: Physics HL, or Analysis and Approaches SL, or Economics HL. A teacher of that course will tell you how many papers there are, roughly what each is worth, what the internal assessment contributes and how it is marked. Someone who has only read a prospectus will answer in adjectives.

The second question is about criteria. IB internal assessments are marked against criteria identified by letter, and each has a published descriptor and mark allocation. A specialist can tell you which criterion your child's last piece of work lost marks on and what the next band up requires. This is the single most diagnostic question available to a parent, and it takes ten seconds to ask.

The remaining four cover command terms, the difference between the two maths routes, how the tutor handles coursework, and whether they hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit. The command-term question matters because evaluate, justify and compare demand different answers, and a tutor who treats them as synonyms will teach your child to lose marks politely. The coursework question matters because an offer to help write an internal assessment is an offer to put your child in front of a malpractice panel.

None of this requires you to know the subject. You are listening for specificity and for comfort with the detail, the same way you would assess any technical supplier. A tutor who welcomes the questions is usually the one worth hiring, and a tutor who deflects them has told you something useful at no cost.

What "home tutor" means for an address inside Masdar City

  • Masdar City is pedestrian-first, so a visiting tutor parks at the edge and walks
  • Apartment living makes a reliably quiet hour harder to find than a villa does
  • The in-home premium pays for travel, not for better teaching
  • An online slot can be sized to the work rather than to the journey

The phrase is worth taking apart, because Masdar City makes the usual assumptions wrong. The district is compact and pedestrian-first, with shaded streets and parking largely held at the edges. A tutor driving in for an hour is parking and walking at each end of the lesson, and that time is priced into whatever they charge.

The housing stock is apartments, which also shapes the practical question. A home visit assumes a room where a stranger can work undisturbed with a teenager for an hour while the household continues around them. In a two or three bedroom apartment, that room is usually the one everybody else is in. Many families discover this in week two and then start moving lessons to the kitchen table, which is not what they paid for.

The market for in-home tutoring in Abu Dhabi is real and priced accordingly. Bestimate's rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour, and independent home tutors are quoted at AED 200 to 500. Against a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to 300, the difference is a travel premium. For a Masdar City address that premium buys a drive from wherever the tutor lives plus parking at the district edge, and it narrows your choice to people prepared to do it.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so there is no sales motive in that comparison; we run them in India only. What we offer a Masdar City family instead is the whole specialist pool rather than the subset willing to drive, at the lower end of the two price bands, with sessions that can be 45 minutes when 45 minutes is what the work needs.

03

The IB courses Masdar City students sit, with the detail that matters

Parents often ask which IB subject needs tutoring most, and the honest answer is that it depends less on the subject than on where in the course the student is. A Diploma year has two distinct crises: the coursework crisis in the autumn, when internal assessments and the extended essay collide with ordinary teaching, and the technique crisis in the spring, when content is broadly known and marks are still being dropped.

The table below sets out the components that do the damage in the subjects Masdar City families request most. It is deliberately specific, because a tutor should be able to discuss any row in it without preparation. If you use one row as an opening question in a trial lesson, you will learn more than a profile page can tell you.

Two patterns are worth naming. First, the internal assessment is where the largest recoverable margin sits in most science subjects, and it is recoverable only early, because the research question constrains everything downstream. Second, in mathematics the loss is rarely conceptual. Students who can do the mathematics drop marks on presentation of method, on calculator discipline and on misreading what the question's verb asked for.

A Masdar City family with a Diploma candidate should therefore make one decision in September rather than six in March: which two components are going to be attacked this term. Everything else can wait, and attempting everything at once in a year that already contains theory of knowledge and the extended essay is how students end up doing many things badly.

What Abu Dhabi families pay, starting from the cheapest option

Begin at the bottom of the market, because most budgets are built upwards. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. At that level you are buying supervision: someone to sit with a student through a problem set and keep them honest about doing it. That has value for a Year 8 who will not start homework alone. It will not touch an internal assessment or a Paper 3 technique problem.

The next band is a qualified subject tutor working online, roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour. Unitors is the only competitor in this market that publishes an hourly rate at all, listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Above that sits the specialist band for IB, IGCSE and A-level teaching, around AED 200 to 450 and beyond, where TutorChase quotes AED 270 and Bestimate's table shows AED 200 to 450 plus. The premium named tier, where BartyED quotes AED 650, is a different purchase again.

Monthly figures are more useful for planning than hourly ones. Published packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. For one hour a week, Bestimate estimates AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist support in an exam year.

Every number above is a market rate published by the provider named beside it, read in October 2026. None of them is an IB Gram price. We quote after the free trial lesson, when the diagnosis exists and the number can be tied to a plan rather than guessed at. A provider quoting you a figure before seeing any of your child's work is pricing a slot, not a piece of teaching.

The permit question, and how a parent asks it without awkwardness

  • The permit is free and valid for two years, so cost is no excuse for not holding one
  • Eligible categories include school teachers, employees, students and the unemployed
  • No fine schedule is published; a quoted penalty figure is unverified
  • Avoid hiring your child's own classroom teacher in Abu Dhabi

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and the rules are more parent-friendly than most people assume. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits. It is granted free of charge for two years, which removes the usual excuse that compliance is expensive.

The eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a stated two-working-day completion time and no fee listed, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website or e-services system.

Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of fines is published, so if any provider quotes you a specific amount, they are repeating something unverified. The question to ask is simply whether the tutor holds the permit, and the answer is either yes with evidence or something less than that.

One Abu Dhabi specific belongs here. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct bars the same arrangement. Treat the detail as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK document, but do not arrange lessons with your child's own classroom teacher. Beyond the rule, a second teacher explaining a topic a different way is frequently what makes it land.

06

What eight weeks of weekly lessons can honestly achieve

  • Week one is a marked diagnostic, not an introductory chat
  • One substantial objective per eight-week block, chosen deliberately
  • Coursework blocks set the research question first, because it caps the mark
  • Progress depends on practice between lessons; the hour makes that practice work

Parents reasonably want to know what they are buying over a term rather than over an hour. Eight weekly sessions is roughly a half-term block and it is enough to do one substantial thing well. It is not enough to rebuild two years of shaky foundations in three subjects, and anybody promising that is selling something else.

In practice a well-used eight weeks looks like this. Week one is diagnostic: a timed past paper or a recent marked assessment, gone through properly, with the lost marks grouped by cause. Weeks two to six attack the largest group, which for most students is narrower than expected, often a single topic plus a habit in how solutions are written out. Week seven consolidates under timed conditions. Week eight re-tests the original diagnostic so there is evidence rather than impression.

For a coursework block the shape differs. The first two sessions settle the research question and the data or text selection, which is where the ceiling on the mark gets set. The middle sessions teach the analysis the criteria require, with feedback on drafts the student has written. The final sessions are criterion-by-criterion review against the published descriptors, still on the student's own text.

What eight weeks will not do is move a grade in a subject where the student has not done the practice between lessons. That is worth saying plainly at the start. An hour a week is four per cent of a school week, and its job is to make the other ninety-six per cent productive. A tutor who tells you otherwise is managing your expectations rather than your child's learning.

07

Where our help stops, written down

The Abu Dhabi search results that return tutors also return services selling finished coursework. One operator in this market advertises completed internal assessments at a fixed price. A student who submits purchased work risks a malpractice finding, and in a Diploma year that can cost the qualification rather than a grade. This is the clearest line in the business and it deserves to be written out rather than implied.

A tutor may teach the content an assessment draws on, explain how each lettered criterion is applied and what distinguishes one band from the next, press on a research question until it is answerable, teach data handling and referencing, and give feedback on a draft the student produced. That is teaching, and it is what the criteria expect a supervisor and a teacher to do.

A tutor may not supply text that reaches the submission, rewrite a passage into final form, produce the analysis, or hand over an exemplar to be adapted. IB Gram does not write, finish or supply assessed work of any kind, and a tutor asked to will decline and tell us. We would rather lose a booking than have a Masdar City student sitting in front of an academic-honesty panel.

The same restraint applies to materials. We do not reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. We cite the official source and teach from material the student legitimately holds through school. A provider offering a library of mark schemes has told you how it treats rules in general.

08

Coverage, waiting time and what we do when nobody is free

No competitor page researched in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is odd, because every network has one. Requests are not spread evenly: Diploma mathematics and the sciences are asked for constantly, while a smaller higher-level option can sit quiet for weeks and then need a specialist within days.

For a Masdar City family that means an expectation rather than a promise. Core Diploma maths and science usually match within a week, trial lesson included. A narrower higher-level subject, or a request for one tutor to cover two subjects, can take up to a fortnight at peak times. We say which case you are in at the enquiry, not after you have waited, because a family planning a term needs the information before it is useless.

When no UAE-based specialist is free, we offer the alternative explicitly: a specialist elsewhere in the network teaching the same course over the same platform, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time so the evening is unaffected. That is disclosed before booking. Several providers route UAE families to numbers in other countries without mentioning it, and the concealment rather than the geography is the problem.

If the match is wrong after the trial, say so and we change it. The free trial lesson exists for exactly that, and your child's opinion counts, because an hour a week with somebody they cannot talk to achieves very little however strong the subject knowledge. There is no obligation after the trial and no cost to saying no.

Where we tutor

The districts Masdar City families live between

Masdar City sits on the eastern side of the city near the airport, which puts a particular set of neighbourhoods and schools within reach. Each one changes the school run, and the school run decides what time a weekday lesson can start.

Khalifa City

The nearest substantial school cluster and the destination for most Masdar City pupils. A 15:30 finish here usually means a 16:10 arrival back, which makes 16:45 a workable weekday start for a Masdar City family.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Dense, established and well supplied with schools serving Indian and British curricula. Families often choose it for value and accept a longer run; from Masdar City the return trip is short enough to keep an early-evening slot intact.

Shakhbout City

Villa living a short drive away, popular with families who want space without moving to the islands. Siblings in different year groups are common, which is why we tend to schedule two back-to-back slots on one evening.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Where the emirate's IB continuum provision concentrates. A Masdar City child at a Raha school has a reasonable run in the morning and a slower one back, so 17:30 onwards is the realistic window.

Al Reef

Close to the airport and to Masdar City itself, with a mix of apartments and villas. The commute is one of the shortest available in this part of the emirate, which makes earlier weekday lessons genuinely possible.

Yas Island and Saadiyat Island

Further out and chosen for specific schools rather than convenience. Event weekends on Yas affect Saturday timing, and we move those sessions rather than pretending the traffic will behave.

Al Shamkha

A large and growing residential district inland, increasingly where younger Masdar City staff families settle. Newer school provision here is filling in, and demand for Diploma-level support outpaces local supply.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Masdar City

The Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • ADNOC Schools

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah

The value end of the emirate's private sector, serving large Indian and British curriculum cohorts. Demand for IGCSE and Diploma maths support from this corridor is steady through the year and spikes before each series.

  • Emirates National School
  • Al Dhafra Private School
  • Abu Dhabi Indian School
  • Merryland International School

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course, not the year group

Tell us Physics HL, or Analysis and Approaches SL, or Economics HL, and whether it is the first or second Diploma year. The programme and level change who we put in front of you more than anything else you could say. If you are unsure which maths route your child was entered for, the school's Diploma coordinator will confirm it in one reply.

  2. 02

Send one marked piece of work

A returned past paper, a mock with a grade, a piece of internal assessment feedback. Not a summary of how things are going. The first useful move is grouping lost marks by cause, and that needs the actual script. It is almost always narrower than parents expect: one topic, one command term, one habit in setting out working.

  3. 03

Use the six questions on the trial lesson

The free trial is an hour of real teaching with no payment and no package. Ask one of the six checks from the first section while you are there, and read the written note we send afterwards. Your child gets a vote. If the match is wrong, we change the tutor rather than asking you to give it time.

  4. 04

Fix a slot that survives a bad afternoon

Masdar City commutes are short by Abu Dhabi standards but they are not zero, and a lesson the student arrives at exhausted is wasted. We set the start time around the realistic return rather than the optimistic one. Everything is scheduled in Gulf Standard Time and the slot holds through the term.

  5. 05

Review on the school's calendar, not ours

Every four to six weeks we check progress against the school's own assessment points and coursework deadlines. If the next block needs to be an internal assessment rather than content coverage, the plan changes. If the work is done, we reduce frequency and tell you so rather than keeping a slot warm.

The six checks at the top of this page work on any provider, including us. We publish them because a market where parents ask those questions is one where specialists win, and because a tutor who cannot answer them should not be teaching a Diploma course at AED 200 an hour or at any other price.

No travel filter on who teaches your child

Masdar City has no school inside it and so no local teacher population. Delivering over live video means your child's tutor is chosen for what they can teach rather than for whether they will drive to the district edge and walk in. For a narrow higher-level subject that is the whole difference.

Rates attributed, not asserted

Every dirham figure on this page names the provider or rate table that published it and the tier it applies to. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars to families who transact in dirhams.

The coursework boundary in writing

We teach content, criteria and method and give feedback on work the student wrote. We do not supply text, finish coursework or provide exemplars to adapt. In a market where completed internal assessments are openly advertised, stating the line protects the candidate and tells you what kind of supplier you are dealing with.

Limits disclosed before you book

When no UAE-based specialist is free, we say so at the enquiry and offer a network specialist teaching the same course in Gulf Standard Time. You decide with the facts. The alternative, chosen by several providers in this market, is to let a family discover the arrangement after payment.

Regulator facts without borrowed authority

We explain what ADEK, KHDA, SPEA and MoHRE each do, because knowing which applies to your child is genuinely useful. We claim approval, accreditation or partnership from none of them, because IB Gram holds none. Implying otherwise is the commonest trust failure in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Masdar City: your questions answered

Is there an IB school inside Masdar City itself?+

No. Masdar City is a planned low-carbon district built around a university campus, a free zone and commercial offices, and it contains no private K-12 school. Children living here travel out, most often into the Khalifa City corridor, Mohammed Bin Zayed City or Al Raha, where the emirate's IB continuum and British-curriculum provision sits. That matters for tutoring because there is no local teacher population attached to a nearby campus, so a tutor who is physically close to you is close by coincidence rather than because they teach your child's course.

Does IB Gram send a tutor into Masdar City apartments?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs in India only. For a Masdar City family the lesson is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and your child's own marked work on screen. We still target the home-tutor search because it is what parents type, and then answer it properly: the in-home market here is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, and the comparison with an online specialist at AED 150 to 300 is set out above.

How do I check a tutor actually understands the IB Diploma?+

Ask them to describe the assessment components of the exact course and level your child sits, and roughly what each is worth. Then ask which lettered criterion your child's last piece of internal assessment work lost marks on, and what the band above requires. A teacher of that course answers both in specifics. Someone who has only read about the programme answers in adjectives. You do not need subject knowledge to run this check, only to listen for whether the detail is there.

Which schools do most Masdar City children attend?+

Predominantly schools in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, which carries the emirate's IB continuum alongside British and American provision, and schools in Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah for families choosing value or a particular curriculum. All are licensed and inspected by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its inspection outcomes. We name schools as local context only and claim no affiliation with any of them.

What time can a weekday lesson realistically start from Masdar City?+

For a child at a Khalifa City or Al Reef school, around 16:45 is workable, because a 15:30 finish usually becomes a 16:10 arrival. For a school on Al Raha Beach or the islands, 17:30 or later is more honest. We set the slot around the bad afternoon rather than the good one, because a student arriving at a lesson already worn out gets very little from the hour and you still pay for it. The slot then holds through the term.

Is online tutoring a real substitute for someone sitting beside my child?+

For an IB course at Diploma or Middle Years level, usually yes, and in some ways better. Both people annotate the same past paper, graphs are built live rather than copied, and the session can be recorded for revision. Two things must hold: a quiet room for the hour and a stable connection. For a much younger child who needs physical presence to stay on task, the honest answer is different, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a format that will not work.

What does a qualified IB tutor cost per hour for an Abu Dhabi family?+

Published rates give the shape of the market. Budget online tutoring starts around AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB teaching runs AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase quoting AED 270. In-home visits including travel are AED 180 to 500. Those are the market's published figures, read in October 2026; our own fee follows the free trial lesson.

Should I hire a tutor from my child's own school in Abu Dhabi?+

No. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Verify the exact wording against the current ADEK policy document, but the direction is clear. There is also a teaching argument: a second teacher explaining a topic differently is often what finally makes it make sense to a struggling student.

How much can eight weekly sessions change before a Diploma mock?+

Enough to do one substantial thing well. A realistic block opens with a marked timed paper, groups the lost marks by cause, spends four or five weeks attacking the largest group, then consolidates and re-tests. That usually means one topic plus one habit in how solutions are presented. It will not rebuild two years of shaky foundations across three subjects, and it depends on practice happening between lessons. An hour a week is about four per cent of a school week; its job is to make the rest productive.

Can a tutor help with my child's internal assessment in Masdar City?+

Within a firm boundary, yes. A tutor can teach the content the assessment draws on, explain how each lettered criterion is applied, interrogate a research question until it is answerable, teach data handling and referencing, and give feedback on drafts the student wrote. A tutor cannot supply text for the submission, rewrite a passage into final form, produce the analysis or hand over an exemplar to adapt. IB Gram does not write or finish assessed work, and services advertising completed internal assessments expose the candidate to a malpractice finding.

Which IB maths route should my child take for engineering at a UAE university?+

Check the specific programme's published entry requirements before deciding, because they vary and they are the only authority that matters. Broadly, Analysis and Approaches is the proof and calculus route that engineering and mathematics departments usually expect, and Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics route suited to social sciences, design and business. A tutor can tell you which course your child is actually coping with; the admissions page tells you which one the degree will accept. Both questions need answering, in that order.

Does a tutor working with a Masdar City family need to be permitted?+

Yes. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services system. Anyone tutoring without the permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no official fine schedule is published, so a quoted amount is unverified.

Do Abu Dhabi IB students sit exams in the same session as everyone else?+

UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session. We do not print a specific IB examination or results date here, because the IB organisation blocks automated checking and an unverified date is exactly the kind of detail a parent would act on wrongly. Your school's Diploma coordinator holds the confirmed calendar, and the internal coursework deadlines on it usually matter more than the exam dates, because they land while teaching is still running and they cap the marks available.

Can one tutor cover two IB subjects for the same Masdar City student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking for, because a single tutor holding both courses sees patterns across them. Physics with Analysis and Approaches is the pairing that works most often, since the mathematics underpins the physics. Chemistry with Biology is common too. Two humanities subjects rarely sit with the same specialist. If the combination is not available, we say so rather than putting a generalist on both, because one strong subject specialist plus one more beats two mediocre matches.

How quickly can a Masdar City family get started?+

For core Diploma mathematics and the sciences, usually within the same week, with the free trial lesson included in that. For a narrower higher-level option, or a request for one tutor across two subjects, up to a fortnight at peak times. We tell you which case applies at the enquiry rather than after you have waited, and if we have nobody suitable at all we say that instead of booking you in and hoping somebody frees up.

What happens to lessons during Ramadan for a Masdar City family?+

Timings move and the structure holds. Lessons can shift to later evening slots after iftar, and because nobody is travelling, a change of time costs nothing but coordination. Revision plans adjust too: shorter, more frequent sessions work better than long ones in a month where sleep patterns change. Give us notice if a slot needs to move permanently so the tutor's week can be rebuilt; one-off moves are routine. Scheduling stays in Gulf Standard Time unless you ask otherwise.

Ask the six questions, then decide

The useful thing a parent in Masdar City can do today costs nothing. Take the six checks at the top of this page to whoever you are considering, including us, and see who answers in specifics. Then send us the course and level, one marked piece of recent work, and the two evening windows that genuinely survive the school run. We will tell you whether we have the right specialist, how soon they can start, and what the free trial lesson will cover. If we do not have the right person, we will say so rather than offer you a generalist at a specialist price.
