IGCSE Home Tutor in Masdar City

Hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Masdar City is a monthly commitment, not an hourly one, and most families only discover that after the second invoice. This page works through the real numbers for a Masdar City household: published AED rates by tier, what a travel premium actually buys, the three ways tuition money gets wasted, and why IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons live online instead of at your door.

  • Published AED market rates, each attributed to the provider quoting it
  • Monthly figures as well as hourly, because budgets are monthly
  • One-to-one live video lessons scheduled in Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in Masdar City

Working out what IGCSE tuition will actually cost you

Almost every tutoring conversation in Abu Dhabi starts with an hourly rate, which is the least useful number available. An hourly rate tells you nothing about how many hours a Year 10 or Year 11 student actually needs, nothing about whether those hours are spent on the right paper, and nothing about the cost of discovering in March that the wrong board was being practised all along. Families in Masdar City, many of them working in energy, research and the free zone, tend to want the annual figure and the assumptions behind it.

So this page is built around money rather than reassurance. The published market rates are all here, named by the provider that quoted them, in dirhams and by tier. The monthly equivalents are here too, because a household budget runs monthly and a term is roughly four of those. The three common ways IGCSE tuition money gets wasted are set out explicitly, with what each one costs and how to spot it before the invoices stack up.

There is a geography point worth making first, because it affects the bill. Masdar City is a compact low-carbon district beside the airport, built around a university campus, a free zone and commercial offices. It has no private school inside it and its residential stock is apartments rather than villas, with parking held mostly at the district edge. A tutor driving in parks and walks at both ends of the hour, and that time is in the price whether or not it appears on the invoice.

Those two facts together explain the biggest single line item in the in-home option. The market quotes in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's Dubai rate table and AED 200 to 500 for independent home tutors, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The gap is travel. For a Masdar City address it buys a drive and a walk, and it also shrinks your choice of tutor to the people prepared to make that trip at five in the afternoon.

IB Gram's position is simple and worth stating before the tables. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a Masdar City family the lesson happens over live video, one student and one teacher, with your child's own marked past papers on the screen. We target the home-tutor search because that is the phrase parents type, and then we answer it with the actual numbers rather than pretending the question was something else.

What follows, in order: monthly costs by tier, the three waste patterns, the board question that quietly decides whether your money is doing anything, the tier decision inside Cambridge subjects, what to ask about any quote, and the calendar that drives all of it. Nothing here is an IB Gram price list. Our fee is quoted after the free trial lesson, when there is a diagnosis to price against.

At a glance

  • Hourly rates mislead; monthly and termly figures are what a budget needs
  • Masdar City has no school inside it and parking sits at the district edge
  • The in-home premium pays for travel time, not for stronger teaching
  • Three waste patterns identified, each with the cost it carries
  • All AED figures attributed to the provider that published them, read in October 2026
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Masdar City teenagers sit one of two IGCSE specifications, and a smaller group arrives from the Cambridge lower secondary route. The specification, not the year group, determines which papers are practised, so it is the first thing to establish before any money changes hands.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Identified by four-digit syllabus codes: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology. Several subjects are tiered into Core and Extended, which changes the grade ceiling and the paper set. Cambridge also assesses practical skills through a dedicated written paper in the sciences, which candidates with plenty of laboratory experience still answer badly.

Cambridge International runs its examinations for UAE centres in a June series and a November series. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your school's exams officer which zone it sits in before you plan a revision schedule.

PEARSONAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Coded differently: 4MA1 Mathematics, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology. Mathematics runs as two equally weighted papers with no coursework and a formula sheet that differs from Cambridge. Tiering does not map onto Cambridge's Core and Extended split, and the expected layout of a full-mark solution is not identical either.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May and June and again in November. The pattern from the most recent completed cycle: the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson issues provisional timetables ahead of each series, so read the official page rather than any summary.

LOWER SECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before IGCSE, with Checkpoint tests available in March, May and October. These years decide which tier a student is entered for, which in turn decides the grade ceiling, so they matter financially as well as academically. Work here is about algebraic fluency and written method rather than examination technique.

This is where a Masdar City family can spend least and gain most. Support in Years 8 and 9 costs the same per hour as support in Year 11 but buys an entry tier rather than a rescue. A student entered for Extended because the groundwork was done has a higher ceiling available for the whole of IGCSE, and no amount of spending in Year 11 recovers a Core entry.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Masdar City families pay for most often, with the component that decides the grade named in each. Use any one of them as an opening question to a prospective tutor: a specialist will discuss it without preparation.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson Edexcel 4MA1

The single most tutored subject in the emirate. Extended opens the top grade range and is what any student heading for A-level or Diploma mathematics needs. Marks go missing in algebraic fractions, graph transformations and the long multi-step questions late in the paper, where candidates abandon a question rather than bank the first two marks.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson Edexcel 4PH1

Electricity and circuits do most of the damage, followed by anything requiring rearrangement of a formula under time pressure. The Cambridge practical-skills paper is answered poorly by students who have done the experiments but never been taught to write up uncertainty and error for a marker.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson Edexcel 4CH1

Moles and stoichiometry separate grades, and they are a technique rather than a talent. Students who can balance equations and still cannot scale a calculation are missing one method, which is usually fixable in three or four sessions rather than a term.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson Edexcel 4BI1

Content volume is the problem and command terms are the solution. Describe, explain and suggest demand different answers, and students who write everything they know on the topic score below students who answer the verb. Marked timed practice moves this faster than re-reading notes.

English as a Second Language and First Language English

Cambridge 0510, 0511 and 0500

Two different courses with different marking emphases, and families sometimes do not know which one their child is entered for. Directed writing and summary tasks reward format discipline: addressing the audience, the purpose and the word count is worth more than richer vocabulary.

Additional Mathematics and Further Pure

Cambridge 0606 and Pearson equivalents

Taken by students heading for A-level or Diploma mathematics and often added late. The calculus and trigonometry content is a genuine step up from 0580 Extended, and a student who was coasting on Extended will feel it immediately. Worth starting early rather than in the final two terms.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450 · Pearson equivalents

Case-study papers reward structure. Candidates lose marks by describing a business situation rather than analysing it, and by never reaching an evaluative judgement where the question asked for one. The fix is a repeatable answer shape, taught in a handful of lessons.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Popular with Masdar City families given the district's technical employers. Pseudocode and trace tables cause more lost marks than programming does, because students solve the problem mentally and never write the intermediate steps the mark scheme is looking for.

Arabic and Islamic Education streams

School-mandated

These run alongside the international curriculum in UAE private schools by federal requirement, with separate classes organised by group and set languages of instruction. Support follows the school's own scheme of work, since additional or different content for the mandatory subjects needs Ministry permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy, all delivered over live video. The right one depends on what is wrong, and getting that choice right saves more money than negotiating an hourly rate ever will.

One subject, one hour a week, one term

The cheapest arrangement that reliably changes anything. One specialist, one subject, a fixed slot held through the term. Published monthly estimates for an hour a week run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 600 to 1,200 for a qualified subject tutor, which is the band most Masdar City families end up in. Anything less frequent tends to become revision support rather than teaching.

  • Fixed weekly slot, same tutor, so diagnosis carries over
  • Short written note after each lesson naming what to practise
  • Past-paper questions from the specification your child actually sits
  • Reviewed every four to six weeks against the school's assessments

Short diagnostic block, then stop

Four sessions bought deliberately as an investigation rather than a course. A full timed paper marked properly, lost marks grouped by cause, and a written plan your child can follow without us. Some families need nothing more than that, and we would rather say so than sell a term of lessons to fix a problem that turned out to be two topics wide.

  • Opens with a marked timed paper under exam conditions
  • Lost marks grouped by cause and ranked by recovery cost
  • Ends with a written plan, whether or not you continue
  • No package, no rolling commitment

Pre-series intensive

Four to eight weeks before a June or November sitting, concentrated on paper technique rather than new content. Two or three short sessions a week, each one anchored to a marked paper. This is the most expensive way to buy time per month and the most efficient way to buy marks late, which is a trade worth understanding before you choose it.

  • Two or three sessions a week in the final stretch
  • Every session anchored to a marked past paper
  • Command-term and working-out discipline drilled explicitly
  • Ends with the series; nothing rolls on afterwards

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Masdar City

01

The monthly number, not the hourly one

Convert everything into a monthly figure before you compare providers, because that is the number that lands in your account. Bestimate's estimates for a weekly one-hour session put a budget tutor at AED 240 to 600 a month, a mid-range tutor at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. Those three bands are the entire decision for most families, and the difference between them over a two-year IGCSE course is substantial.

Package pricing in this market tells a similar story from the other direction. Published examples include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, which works out well below the hourly rates advertised alongside it, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Both are real published figures. Notice that the in-home package buys eight contact hours for roughly twice the price of the online one, and that most of the difference is a car.

The arithmetic parents rarely do is the two-year one. An IGCSE course runs across Years 10 and 11, which is roughly eighteen teaching months. One subject at the mid band is somewhere around AED 10,800 to 21,600 across the course. Two subjects doubles it. That is a significant commitment, and it is the reason the waste patterns in the next section matter more than haggling over an hourly rate.

A sensible way to control it is to buy intensity where it changes an outcome rather than spreading it thin. One subject taught properly for a term beats three subjects seen fortnightly, because fortnightly contact becomes homework supervision by default. Masdar City families with two teenagers often run one subject each on consecutive evenings, which keeps one quiet room working twice and keeps the monthly figure predictable.

02

Three ways IGCSE tuition money gets wasted

The first and most expensive is paying for the wrong specification. A tutor who knows IGCSE mathematics generally but practises Cambridge 0580 questions with a Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 candidate is teaching real mathematics in the wrong format. The content overlaps enough that nobody notices for months. What differs is the paper structure, the formula sheet and the expected layout of a full-mark solution, and those are exactly what a tutor is for.

The second is paying for coverage when the problem is technique. A student who scores 55 per cent on a paper has usually not failed to learn half the syllabus; they have lost marks across many questions for a small number of repeating reasons. Re-teaching the whole course at AED 200 an hour is the most expensive possible response. Marking one paper properly and grouping the losses by cause costs one session and redirects the entire plan.

The third is buying frequency instead of focus. Three subjects at one fortnightly session each feels thorough and produces almost nothing, because a fortnightly hour has no continuity and degrades into checking homework. The same budget on one subject weekly produces a measurable change in that subject. Parents resist this because the weakest subject list has three items on it, but sequencing beats spreading.

There is a fourth, smaller leak worth naming: paying for travel you did not want. If the in-home option was chosen for supervision of a younger child, the premium is buying something real. If it was chosen because it seemed more serious, it is buying a car journey. For a Masdar City address with parking at the district edge, that is a particularly poor use of AED 50 to 200 an hour.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the question behind the invoice

Parents are often surprised that IGCSE is not one qualification. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel are separate boards with separate specifications, separate codes and separate papers, and a UAE school may use one for mathematics and the other for a science. The school's exams officer can confirm each subject in a single reply, and that reply is the most financially useful email you will send this year.

The differences that matter to a tutor are concrete. Cambridge tiers several subjects into Core and Extended, with different papers and a different grade ceiling; Pearson's tiering does not map onto that. The formula sheets differ. Cambridge assesses practical skills in the sciences through a dedicated written paper, which has its own technique. Mark schemes reward different levels of shown working, so the habit a tutor trains has to match the board being sat.

The calendars differ too, and this is where wrong information circulating online becomes expensive. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE centres. Its February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so a page quoting those dates to an Abu Dhabi parent is written for a different country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May and June and November. Mixing those up wrecks a revision schedule.

If your child is moving between boards mid-course, which happens with school changes, that is the moment to pay for a specialist rather than a generalist. The content will mostly carry across. The paper craft will not, and a student who has learned to answer Cambridge questions well can lose marks on Pearson papers for reasons that have nothing to do with knowing the subject.

Core or Extended: the decision that changes the whole bill

  • Core entry caps the grade; Extended opens the top range
  • Tutoring in Years 8 to 10 buys a tier; tutoring in Year 11 buys marks inside one
  • Tier changes come from the school's evidence, not from a tutor's opinion
  • Ask which tier each subject is entered for, in writing, before you budget

In tiered Cambridge subjects, the entry decision sets the grade ceiling. Core entry caps the available grades; Extended opens the top range and is what a student needs for A-level or Diploma progression in that subject. Schools make this decision from classroom evidence, typically in Year 10, and once an entry is made the ceiling is fixed regardless of what is spent afterwards.

That makes the financial logic of tutoring unusual. Money spent in Years 8, 9 and early 10 buys an entry tier. Money spent in the final two terms of Year 11 buys marks within a tier already chosen. The second is useful and is what most families buy. The first is cheaper per unit of outcome and almost nobody buys it, because the problem is not visible yet.

A Masdar City parent with a Year 9 student therefore has an option that a parent of a Year 11 student does not. A single term of focused work on algebraic fluency and written method, at mid-band rates, can be the difference between an Extended and a Core entry. The same spend a year later cannot change the entry at all.

If the entry has already been made at Core and the student is clearly capable of more, that is a conversation with the school rather than with a tutor. Schools can and do move students between tiers where the evidence supports it, but the evidence has to come from classwork and internal assessments. A tutor can help generate that evidence; a tutor cannot change an entry.

05

What a quote should tell you, and what to ask when it does not

  • Per hour or per lesson, and how many minutes a lesson actually is
  • Whether the quoted figure is the figure you will be charged
  • Cancellation, replacement and what happens if the match fails
  • Whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit

A tutoring quote in this market is often a single hourly number with nothing attached. That is not enough to compare two providers, and the missing details are where the surprises live. Ask whether the price is per hour or per lesson, and how long a lesson is, because a 45-minute lesson quoted as an hourly rate is a 33 per cent increase in disguise.

Ask whether the quoted figure includes value added tax, and get the answer in writing. We do not state the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees as a general fact, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than a tutoring company's opinion. What any provider can and should tell you is whether the number they quoted you is the number you will pay.

Ask about cancellation, replacement and what happens after one lesson. If a tutor is unavailable for three weeks, is the slot held, refunded or filled by somebody else? If the match does not work, is there a replacement at no cost or a notice period to serve? These questions cost nothing to ask and they separate organised providers from improvised ones.

Finally, ask whether the tutor holds a MoHRE private tuition work permit. It was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without it attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat a quoted penalty figure as unverified.

06

The in-home premium, priced for a district with edge parking

Masdar City is a useful place to examine the in-home premium, because the district makes the hidden costs visible. It is pedestrian-first by design. Vehicle access and parking sit largely at the perimeter, so a visiting tutor parks and walks at both ends of the hour. That is ten or fifteen minutes each way, unpaid in theory and priced in practice.

Add the drive itself. A tutor coming from Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City or further is spending forty to sixty minutes in a car for a sixty-minute lesson. No supplier absorbs that indefinitely. It appears either as a higher hourly rate, which is what the AED 180 to 500 band reflects, or as a minimum booking of ninety minutes or two hours, which is what the AED 1,599 to 1,799 monthly packages reflect.

Apartment living adds a second constraint that nobody prices at all. A home visit assumes a room where an adult can work with a teenager undisturbed for an hour while the household continues. In a two or three bedroom apartment that room is usually occupied. Families discover this in week two and start moving the lesson to the kitchen table, which is not what the premium was for.

IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE, so there is nothing to defend here; that service runs in India only. The comparison matters because it is the choice a Masdar City family is actually making. The same qualified teaching, delivered over live video at AED 150 to 300 an hour, draws on every specialist in the network rather than the subset willing to drive to the district edge at five in the afternoon.

Exam entries, equivalency and the costs nobody mentions

  • Confirm subject, tier and board in writing with the exams officer each year
  • Five accredited IGCSE or GCSE passes at no less than E or grade 3 for the British track
  • Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from that count of five
  • Equivalency is a Ministry process; no tutoring company performs or guarantees it

Tuition is not the only education cost attached to an IGCSE year, and the others shape when tutoring is worth buying. Entries are made by the school against the board's deadline, and the deadline sits months before the paper. Confirming subject, tier and board in writing with the exams officer is free and prevents the most expensive mistake available, which is a student prepared for a paper they are not entered for.

For context on fees generally, the Dubai authority confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package. Abu Dhabi runs its own fee regime through ADEK. Neither affects a tutoring budget directly, but both matter if you are modelling total education spend across a Diploma or A-level pathway.

Then there is equivalency, which Masdar City families planning UAE university entry should understand early. On the British track the Ministry requires five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. A competitor page ranking for these queries says six subjects; five is what the official clarification states.

Equivalency is a Ministry process. IB Gram does not perform it, guarantee it or submit anything on your behalf, and tutoring is not a requirement for it. We mention it because a subject choice made in Year 9 can affect it, and a parent who knows the rule chooses the option block differently from a parent who does not.

08

What the free trial lesson is actually testing

A free trial is only worth something if it tests the right thing, and most do not. A trial that consists of a friendly chat about goals tests nothing. The trial should be a real lesson on a real piece of your child's work, because that is the only way to find out whether this tutor can teach this student this specification.

Three things should come out of it. First, a diagnosis: which marks are being lost and why, stated specifically rather than as a comment about confidence. Second, a view from your child, who has to spend an hour a week with this person and whose opinion is a better predictor of progress than any credential. Third, a short written note you can read afterwards, so the diagnosis exists in a form you can check against later.

What a trial cannot tell you is whether a grade will move, and any provider implying otherwise at that stage is guessing. What it can tell you is whether the tutor knows the specification, whether they can explain where the marks went, and whether your child engaged. Those three signals predict the next three months reasonably well.

Our trial carries no payment and no package, and if the match is wrong we change the tutor rather than asking you to persevere. That is not generosity, it is economics: a mismatched pairing produces no results, the family leaves, and everybody has wasted a term. Saying no after a trial costs you nothing, which is exactly what makes the trial informative.

Where we tutor

Where the schools are, and what the run costs you

Masdar City sits on the eastern side of Abu Dhabi near the airport. The district your child's school is in sets the return journey, and the return journey sets the earliest lesson slot that is worth paying for.

Khalifa City

The closest substantial school cluster. A 15:30 finish usually becomes a 16:10 arrival back in Masdar City, which makes 16:45 a workable weekday start and avoids paying for an hour a tired student cannot use.

Al Reef

One of the shortest runs available from Masdar City, with a mix of villas and apartments. Families here often manage an earlier slot than the rest of the emirate, which matters when two siblings need consecutive hours.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Dense and well supplied with schools serving Indian and British curricula at the value end of the fee range. Demand for IGCSE maths and science support from this corridor is steady all year and peaks before each series.

Mussafah

Industrial and residential in parts, with established private schools serving large cohorts. Class sizes here make one-to-one attention outside school the thing parents are actually buying, rather than extra content coverage.

Shakhbout City

Villa living a short drive from Masdar City, popular with families wanting space without island prices. Siblings in different year groups are common, which is why consecutive evening slots usually work better than separate days.

Al Shamkha

A large inland residential district still filling in its school provision. Families here often travel further than they expected for a particular curriculum, which pushes the realistic lesson start later into the evening.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Where the emirate's IB continuum and some British provision sits. From Masdar City the return leg is slow, so 17:30 onwards is honest, and a Saturday morning slot is often better value than a weekday one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Masdar City

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Mussafah

The value end of Abu Dhabi's private sector, serving large British and Indian curriculum cohorts and generating most of the emirate's IGCSE tutoring demand. Fees here are lower and class sizes larger, which changes what one-to-one time is for.

  • Emirates National School
  • Al Dhafra Private School
  • Abu Dhabi Indian School
  • Merryland International School

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Higher fees, smaller classes and the emirate's main British and IB provision. IGCSE candidates here usually need paper technique and tier confidence rather than content rescue, which is a cheaper problem to solve.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the board and tier in writing

Email your child's exams officer and ask for the syllabus code and tier for each subject: Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 Higher, and so on. This single reply prevents the most expensive mistake in the market, which is a term of lessons practising the wrong paper format. It takes a day and costs nothing.

  2. 02

    Decide the monthly number first

Work out what you can commit for the whole course rather than for a month, then choose intensity to fit. One subject weekly at the mid band is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month on published estimates. Knowing that figure before you talk to any provider stops a sales conversation from setting your budget for you.

  3. 03

    Send one marked paper

Not a report, not a summary. A returned past paper or mock with the marks on it. The first useful act is grouping those lost marks by cause, which routinely shows the problem is narrower and cheaper than feared: one topic, one command term, one habit in how working is set out.

Take the free trial and judge the hour

One real lesson on real work, no payment, no package. Listen for whether the tutor can name where the marks went and what the board expects. Read the written note afterwards. Your child gets a vote, and if the answer is no, we change the tutor rather than asking you to give it time.

  5. 05

Review every four to six weeks against the school's assessments

Progress is measured against your child's own school data, not our plan. If the next block should be paper technique rather than content, we change it. If the problem is solved, we reduce the frequency and say so, because a slot kept warm for the sake of continuity is money doing nothing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every price here carries its source

Each dirham figure on this page names the provider or rate table that published it and the tier it applies to, read in October 2026. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars to families who pay in dirhams.

Specification matched before anything else

We establish the board, code and tier before matching a tutor, because a specialist on the wrong specification is an expensive way to learn real mathematics in the wrong format. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers, tier differently and reward different working.

No travel premium in the rate

Lessons are delivered over live video, so nothing in your price pays for a drive from Khalifa City or a walk in from the Masdar City perimeter. The same budget buys more teaching time, and the pool of specialists available to your child is not limited to those willing to make the journey.

We will tell you when to stop

A four-session diagnostic block is a legitimate purchase and sometimes the only one needed. If the plan your child leaves with can be followed without us, we say that instead of selling a term. A provider that never recommends less is not giving you advice.

Coverage limits stated up front

When no UAE-based specialist is free for a subject, we say so at the enquiry and offer a network specialist teaching the same specification in Gulf Standard Time. You decide knowing the arrangement. Several providers in this market let families discover it afterwards, which is the part that damages trust.

Regulator facts, no borrowed credibility

We explain what ADEK, KHDA, SPEA and MoHRE each govern, because knowing which applies to your child is useful. We claim approval, accreditation or partnership from none of them, because IB Gram holds none. Implying otherwise is the commonest trust failure in UAE tutoring copy.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Masdar City: your questions answered

What should a Masdar City family budget each month for IGCSE tuition?+

On published estimates, one hour a week costs AED 240 to 600 a month with a budget tutor, AED 600 to 1,200 with a qualified subject tutor, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist support in an exam year. Package pricing seen in this market includes AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Most families with a Year 10 or Year 11 student land in the middle band for one subject. Two subjects roughly doubles the figure, which is why sequencing subjects usually beats running three at once.

Will an IGCSE tutor travel into Masdar City for lessons?+

Some in the market will, at a price. IB Gram will not, because we do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs in India only. Masdar City is pedestrian-first with parking largely at the perimeter, so a visiting tutor parks and walks at both ends of the hour on top of the drive. The market quotes in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor online, and the difference is travel rather than teaching.

Why does the IGCSE exam board my child sits change the price I should pay?+

It does not change the rate, but it changes whether the money does anything. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are separate boards with separate codes, different tiering, different formula sheets and mark schemes that reward different amounts of shown working. A tutor practising Cambridge 0580 papers with a Pearson 4MA1 candidate is teaching genuine mathematics in the wrong format, and nobody notices for months. Confirm the code with the exams officer before paying for a single hour.

Is it cheaper to start IGCSE tutoring in Year 9 or Year 11?+

Year 9 costs the same per hour and buys more. In tiered Cambridge subjects the entry decision sets the grade ceiling, and schools make it from classroom evidence around Year 10. Work on algebraic fluency and written method before that decision can be the difference between a Core and an Extended entry, which no amount of spending in Year 11 recovers. Year 11 tutoring buys marks inside a tier already chosen, which is useful but a narrower purchase.

How many hours a week does an IGCSE student actually need?+

For one subject, one hour a week through a term is the smallest arrangement that reliably changes anything, with practice happening between lessons. Fortnightly contact tends to degrade into homework checking because there is no continuity. In the four to eight weeks before a series, two or three shorter sessions a week on paper technique is more effective than one long one. More than that in a single subject usually means the problem was misdiagnosed rather than large.

What questions should I ask before accepting a tutoring quote in Abu Dhabi?+

Four. Is the price per hour or per lesson, and how many minutes is a lesson? Is the figure quoted the figure I will be charged? What happens if the tutor is unavailable or the match does not work, and is a replacement free? And does the tutor hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit? That permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, so there is no cost reason for a tutor not to hold one.

Which IGCSE subjects do Masdar City parents spend the most on?+

Mathematics first, by a wide margin, then physics and chemistry. Mathematics attracts the spend because it gates A-level and Diploma progression and because the losses are visible in a mark. Physics follows because electricity and formula rearrangement defeat students who understand the ideas. Chemistry because moles and stoichiometry are a method rather than a talent. Given the district's technical employers, computer science requests are higher here than the emirate average, usually around pseudocode and trace tables.

Can one tutor teach two IGCSE subjects to the same child?+

Often, and it can reduce the total bill while improving continuity. Mathematics with physics is the pairing that works most reliably, because the algebra underpins the physics. Chemistry with biology is common. Mathematics with English almost never sits with the same specialist. If the combination is not available we say so rather than putting a generalist on both subjects, because one strong specialist plus a second specialist beats two adequate matches on price-per-mark.

When are IGCSE exams held for a student at an Abu Dhabi school?+

Cambridge International runs its examinations for UAE centres in a June series and a November series, with November serving as the resit route. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge's February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so any page quoting February dates to an Abu Dhabi parent is written for a different country. Cambridge also allocates each centre to one of six zones and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used.

How long after the exams do Pearson Edexcel results reach a UAE student?+

The pattern from the most recent completed cycle is the best guide. June results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, and the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Those are backward-looking citations, which is what makes them checkable. For an upcoming sitting, read the board's own provisional and final timetable pages, because dates can be revised.

Does a cheaper tutor mean a worse result for my child?+

Not automatically, but the bands buy different things. At AED 33 to 65 an hour you are buying supervision: someone to keep a student working through practice. That is genuine value for a Year 8 who will not start homework alone. At AED 150 to 300 you are buying teaching of the specification by someone who knows it. At AED 200 to 450 and above you are buying paper technique and criterion-level feedback. Matching the band to the actual problem matters more than the band itself.

Is online IGCSE tuition as effective for a Year 11 student as someone in the room?+

For exam-course work, usually yes. Both people annotate the same past paper, the tutor can see the working as it happens, and the session can be recorded for revision. Two conditions have to hold: a quiet hour and a stable connection, and in an apartment the first is the harder one. For a much younger child who needs physical presence to stay on task the answer is different, and we would say so rather than sell a format that will not work.

How many IGCSE subjects does the Ministry equivalency count require?+

Five. On the British track, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. One ranking competitor page states six, which is wrong. Equivalency is a Ministry process and no tutoring company performs or guarantees it.

Can we pause lessons during school holidays without losing the slot?+

Yes, with notice. A paused slot is held where the tutor's schedule allows, and we would rather pause than take money for sessions that will be half-attended across a long break. Some families use holidays the other way, running an intensive block when there is no homework competing for the evening, which is usually the best value week of the year. Either approach works; what does not work is drifting into a month of cancelled lessons nobody formally stopped.

What does the free trial lesson tell me that a profile page cannot?+

Three things. Whether the tutor can name where your child's marks are going, specifically, rather than commenting on confidence. Whether your child will talk to them, which predicts progress better than any credential. And whether the tutor knows the specification, which you can test by asking about the paper structure of the exact course. It carries no payment and no package, and if the answer is no, we change the tutor rather than asking you to persevere.

Is any particular grade outcome promised in return for the fee?+

No, and nobody honest offers one. A grade depends on the student's work between lessons, the school's teaching, the tier they were entered for and how the papers go on the day. What we commit to is a named specialist on the correct specification, a diagnosis you can read, a written note after each lesson, review against your child's own school assessments, and a free trial before you pay. A provider promising a specific outcome in advance is selling certainty nobody in this market can produce.

Work out the monthly figure, then buy deliberately

Before you speak to any provider, do two things that cost nothing. Email your child's exams officer for the syllabus code and tier of each subject, and decide the monthly figure you can hold for the whole course rather than for one term. With those two numbers you can compare quotes properly instead of being priced by whoever calls back first. Then send us the code, the tier, one marked paper and the evening windows that survive the school run. We will tell you what we would attack first, how long it should take, and what the free trial lesson will cover.
