IB Internal Assessment Help in Abu Dhabi

IB Internal Assessment help in Abu Dhabi has to start by admitting that internal assessment is not one task. Six subjects produce six different pieces of work, with different word limits, different criteria and different ways of going wrong. This page names the criteria by letter, lists the limits per subject, and sets out the record a family should expect: drafts dated, versions kept, every word written by the student. Lessons run one-to-one on live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Criteria named by letter with their mark allocations in every piece of feedback
  • Word and page limits confirmed against the subject guide before drafting
  • Draft versions dated and kept, so narrowing is part of the record
  • One free 30-minute trial lesson per family, no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Internal assessment is six tasks wearing one name

A family searching for Internal Assessment support usually has one specific crisis in mind and a general anxiety about the rest. That is reasonable, because the Diploma's internally assessed components share a name and almost nothing else. A science investigation has a 3,000-word ceiling and four criteria worth six marks each. An economics Internal Assessment is three separate commentaries of 800 words, each on a different unit of the syllabus and each built on a different published news source. A mathematics exploration has a recommended page range rather than a word count and five criteria, lettered A to E. A history investigation is a different task again.

Those differences are not administrative detail. They determine what can go wrong and therefore what support is worth buying. A science investigation fails most often because the research question cannot generate enough varied quantitative data. An economics commentary fails because the article chosen does not contain enough economics to analyse. A mathematics exploration fails because the chosen topic cannot carry mathematics at the level of the course. Three subjects, three completely different first conversations, and a provider offering generic Internal Assessment support has not had any of them.

The second thing a family needs is the criteria, by letter, with their mark allocations. This is where the market is strangely silent: competitor pages in this cluster discuss Internal Assessment at length and name not a single criterion, which is difficult to explain given that the criteria are the entire basis on which the mark is awarded. A student who knows that use of mathematics carries six of the twenty marks in a mathematics exploration, or that evaluation carries six of twenty-four in a science investigation, works differently from one who has been told to make it interesting.

The third is the record. Internal assessment is produced over weeks without time pressure, which makes it the most recoverable part of the Diploma and also the easiest place for drift to go unnoticed. The record this plan keeps is a dated version history of the student's own document: the research question at each narrowing, the feedback given at each stage, the criterion each comment refers to. A parent can read it. More importantly, it demonstrates that the thinking was the student's, which matters if anyone ever asks.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For Internal Assessment work the format is the correct one rather than a compromise: comments sit in the margin of the student's own file, the subject guide's criteria are visible alongside the text, every version is saved, and a family in Khalifa City or on Al Reem Island gets a tutor matched to the specific subject guide rather than to a driving radius.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Internal assessment sits inside a two-year Diploma and the point in that course determines what help is useful. These are the four stages that matter to an Abu Dhabi family.

DP1-EARLYAges 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Year 1, before any Internal Assessment starts

The cheapest and most useful moment to intervene, and the one families almost never use. Establishing what each subject's Internal Assessment requires, what its limits are and which criteria carry the most marks takes one session per subject and removes most of the later crises.

Abu Dhabi Diploma programmes vary in when they introduce Internal Assessment work, and the variation is wide enough that a parent cannot assume. Asking the IB coordinator for the school's internal deadline schedule in September of Diploma Year 1 is the single most useful administrative act available.

DP1-LATEAges 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Year 1, research question and feasibility

Most science and mathematics Internal Assessment work begins late in Year 1. This is the stage where feasibility is settled: can this question generate the data the criteria need, and does the school hold the apparatus. Changing a question here costs one session; changing it after data collection costs the component.

The Abu Dhabi academic year typically runs from late August to late June, with a long winter break. That break falls at a useful point for Internal Assessment reading and planning, and it is the most commonly wasted three weeks in the two-year course.

DP2-DRAFTAges 17-18 · Year 13

Diploma Year 2, drafting and submission

The crisis stage, where two or three Internal Assessments arrive at draft stage at once alongside the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay. Support here is triage: which component is furthest from its criteria, which can be fixed within the school's deadline, and which has to be submitted as it stands.

Abu Dhabi schools set their own internal deadlines ahead of the IB's own upload schedule, and those internal dates are the ones that bind a family. Ask the coordinator for them in writing rather than relying on a student's recollection of an assembly.

AFTERAges 17-18 · Year 13

After submission

Once a component is submitted the work is finished, and the useful conversation moves to the written examinations. A provider offering to revisit a submitted Internal Assessment is offering something that cannot help and should not be bought.

UAE schools sit the May session. No specific IB exam or results date appears on this page because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and no date here has been confirmed from the IB itself. Confirm dates with the school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject's Internal Assessment is a different task with its own limits and criteria. These are the ones Abu Dhabi families most often ask about, with what the component actually is.

Biology, Chemistry and Physics

SL and HL · the scientific investigation

An individual investigation with a 3,000-word ceiling, around ten hours of class time and 24 marks across four criteria: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, at six marks each. Fails most often on a research question that cannot generate enough varied quantitative data.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

SL and HL · the exploration

An individual written mathematical investigation on a student-chosen topic, with a recommended page range rather than a word limit, assessed against five criteria lettered A to E. Use of mathematics carries the largest single allocation, which is why topic choice caps the mark.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

SL and HL · the exploration

The same component shape and the same five criteria, with the mathematics expected drawn from a modelling and statistics syllabus rather than an algebraic one. A topic that suits the Analysis route often will not suit this one, and the reverse.

Economics

SL and HL · the portfolio of commentaries

Three commentaries of up to 800 words each, every one on a different unit of the syllabus and each built on a different published news article. Fails when the chosen article does not contain enough economics to analyse, which is a selection problem rather than a writing one.

Business Management

SL and HL · the research project

A written research project on a real organisation, with different word limits and research expectations at the two levels. The binding constraint is access: a student needs an organisation that will actually supply the information the project requires.

History

SL and HL · the historical investigation

A written investigation on a student-chosen historical question, structured in defined sections with a stated word limit. Fails on a question too broad to answer in the space, and on source evaluation written as description rather than as assessment of value and limitation.

Psychology

SL and HL · the experimental study

A report on a replication of a published experimental study, with a stated word limit and defined sections. Ethical constraints shape what is possible, and a student who chooses a study that cannot be ethically replicated has to start again.

Geography

SL and HL · the fieldwork report

A written report based on primary fieldwork data collected by the student, with a stated word limit. The constraint is the fieldwork itself: a question requiring data the student cannot actually gather in the time and place available will not produce a report.

Language A: Language and Literature

HL · the HL essay · and the Individual Oral at both levels

The Higher Level essay is an extended piece of 1,200 to 1,500 words on a work or text studied. The Individual Oral, assessed at both levels, is a timed assessed conversation built on a global issue and two works, which is a different kind of preparation entirely.

Visual Arts, Music and Theatre

SL and HL · portfolio and process components

Portfolio-based components assessed across several tasks rather than as a single document, with their own criteria and their own submission requirements. Support here is process coaching against criteria rather than anything resembling essay feedback.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Internal assessment support is block-booked against school deadlines rather than held weekly, which makes it one of the cheaper interventions in the Diploma per mark available.

Feasibility session, one per component

A single session per Internal Assessment, early, testing whether the proposed question can produce what the criteria reward. For a science investigation that means variable range and measurable output. For an economics commentary it means whether the chosen article contains enough economics. For a mathematics exploration it means whether the topic can carry mathematics at the course level.

  • One session per component, placed before any drafting begins
  • The criteria for that subject guide named with their allocations
  • Written outcome: proceed, narrow, or choose a different question
  • The cheapest intervention available in the whole Diploma

Drafting block against school deadlines

Three or four sessions per component, scheduled around the school's own internal dates. Each session reads the student's current version against the criteria and comments in the margin of their file. The student performs every rewrite. Versions are kept and dated so the narrowing is visible in the record.

  • Three or four sessions per component, booked to school deadlines
  • Feedback written in the student's own document, never a rewrite
  • Every comment tagged to a criterion and its mark allocation
  • Version history retained as part of the record

Triage session when several land at once

A single session reading two or three components together and producing a written order of work: which is furthest from its criteria, which can realistically be improved before its deadline, and which should be submitted as it stands. Used in Diploma Year 2 when the deadline stack has already arrived.

  • One session covering several components rather than one each
  • Written order of work with the reasoning stated
  • Includes the honest recommendation to submit something unchanged
  • Priced as a single piece of work, not as a continuing plan

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

The limits, component by component

The first useful document for an Abu Dhabi Diploma family is a single page listing, for each of their child's six subjects, what the Internal Assessment actually is, what its limit is and how many criteria it carries. Almost no student has that page, and almost every Internal Assessment crisis involves a limit or a criterion the student discovered late. It takes an hour to produce from the subject guides and it prevents more problems than any amount of drafting advice.

The limits matter because they change the shape of the work rather than merely capping it. A 3,000-word ceiling on a science investigation sounds generous until a student realises that research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation all have to fit inside it, with tables and graphs. An 800-word economics commentary is short enough that a single paragraph of unnecessary context removes the room for a diagram and its analysis. A mathematics exploration with a recommended page range rather than a word count invites students to pad with screenshots, which earns nothing.

The criteria count matters for the same reason. Four criteria at six marks each in a science investigation means evaluation is worth exactly as much as research design, which is not how students allocate their effort. Five criteria lettered A to E in a mathematics exploration, with use of mathematics carrying the largest single allocation, means a topic that cannot carry the mathematics caps the piece however well it is written. These are planning facts and they belong at the start.

The table below sets out the components Abu Dhabi families most often ask about. Subject guides are revised, so every limit should be confirmed against the current guide for the student's own cohort before drafting begins. The right source is the guide itself or the school's IB coordinator, not a tutoring page, and a provider who cannot say which guide version they are working from is not a safe source for a limit.

02

The criteria, named by letter

Internal assessment marks are awarded against criteria, and the criteria have names and allocations. Competitor pages in this market discuss Internal Assessment at length and name none of them, which leaves a student with advice to be original and interested rather than with a description of what the mark is for. Naming the criteria changes how a student works more than any other single intervention in this part of the Diploma.

In the sciences the four criteria are research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each carrying six of twenty-four marks. The effect of knowing that is immediate: evaluation stops being the paragraph at the end and becomes a quarter of the grade, which means the uncertainty work has to be done during data collection rather than reconstructed afterwards. A student who learns this in week one of the process works differently for the whole of it.

In mathematics the five criteria are lettered: A presentation, B mathematical communication, C personal engagement, D reflection and E use of mathematics, with use of mathematics carrying the largest single allocation of the twenty available. Personal engagement and reflection together carry a meaningful share, which stops a student treating both as decoration around the mathematics. And because criterion E rewards mathematics commensurate with the course, topic choice is a mark decision rather than a matter of taste.

In economics each commentary is assessed against criteria covering diagrams, terminology, application and analysis, and evaluation, which is why a commentary built on an article with little economics in it cannot score: there is nothing for most of the criteria to attach to. In history the criteria separate the identification and evaluation of sources from the investigation itself and from the reflection, which means source evaluation is a specific scored task rather than a paragraph of context. Every subject guide publishes its own; the point is to have read them before writing, not after.

CRITERIA AND ALLOCATIONS FOR THE TWO MOST-REQUESTED COMPONENTS
ComponentCriterionMarksWhat students get wrong
Science investigationResearch design6Too few values of the independent variable to produce a graph
Science investigationData analysis6Uncertainty stated once and never propagated through the calculation
Science investigationConclusion6A restatement of the hypothesis rather than a reading of the data
Science investigationEvaluation6A generic improvement list instead of naming the dominant uncertainty
Mathematics explorationA presentation and B mathematical communication4 eachNotation used inconsistently; variables never defined
Mathematics explorationC personal engagement and D reflection3 eachInterest asserted in the introduction; reflection written as a summary
Mathematics explorationE use of mathematics6Mathematics below the level of the course because the topic could not carry it
03

The boundary, in operational detail

  • A tutor comments, questions, names criteria and teaches method
  • A tutor does not supply text, rewrite to final form, or choose the question
  • The malpractice consequence falls on the student, not the seller
  • The supervisor relationship belongs to the school, not to a tutor

This is the part of the page that matters most, so it is stated as operations rather than principles. A tutor may read the student's draft and comment in its margin. A tutor may ask what the independent variable is, how many values of it will be tested, and whether the data will support a conclusion. A tutor may name the criterion a paragraph is failing and what that criterion rewards. A tutor may teach the subject content or the statistical method the component requires. A tutor may mark a draft against the criteria and say what band it currently sits in.

A tutor may not supply text that appears in the submission. A tutor may not rewrite a paragraph into its final form, which is the line most easily blurred: editing a sentence until it is correct produces the tutor's sentence, not the student's. A tutor may not choose the research question, perform the calculations, supply data, or design the experiment. The rewriting is always done by the student, in the session or afterwards, which is slower and is the only version that is theirs.

The reason for the strictness is the consequence. Work that is not the student's own produces a malpractice finding against the student, not against whoever sold the help, and the outcome at stake is the Diploma itself rather than a lower grade in one subject. The market in this region contains providers who sell exactly what is prohibited: one UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is not a premium service with a risk attached; it is a transfer of risk onto a seventeen-year-old.

Two further boundaries belong here. The school supervisor relationship is the school's, and a tutor should not present themselves as a supervisor or participate in the recorded reflection process that some components require. And subject guides, past papers and mark schemes belong to the International Baccalaureate: they are referenced and linked at ibo.org rather than reproduced or circulated, and a provider distributing bundles of them is indicating how it treats rules generally.

04

The three failure modes, and when each is still fixable

Internal assessment failures are few in kind and consistent across subjects. The first is a question that cannot produce what the criteria reward. In a science investigation that is an independent variable with two or three usable values, which cannot produce a graph and therefore leaves data analysis with little to assess. In a mathematics exploration it is a topic permitting only arithmetic. In economics it is an article containing a price rise and no economics. In history it is a question too broad for the word limit.

The second is data that cannot be collected. A science question requiring apparatus the school does not hold. A geography question needing fieldwork at a site the student cannot reach. A business project depending on an organisation that will not answer. A psychology replication that cannot be run ethically by a school student. All four of those look fine on paper and fail at the moment of collection, which in Diploma Year 2 is usually too late to change.

The third is criteria never read. A student writes a competent, interesting piece and discovers afterwards that reflection was a scored criterion they treated as a conclusion, or that evaluation was worth a quarter of the marks and received one paragraph. This is the most frustrating of the three because the work was good and the allocation was wrong, and it is entirely preventable by reading the criteria before drafting.

The timing of each failure determines what help is worth buying. All three are cheap to fix before drafting and expensive to fix after data collection. That is the argument for the single feasibility session per component, placed early: one session per subject in Diploma Year 1 costs a handful of hours in total and removes the majority of the crises that otherwise arrive together in the second year.

WHEN EACH FAILURE CAN STILL BE FIXED
FailureCost to fix before draftingCost to fix after data collectionWhat prevents it
A question the criteria cannot rewardOne session, question rewritten by the studentThe component, because the work has to restartA feasibility session before any apparatus is booked
Data that cannot be collectedOne session, question adjusted to available meansThe component, plus the class time already spentChecking apparatus, access or site availability in advance
Criteria never readTwenty minutes, at the startPartially recoverable by reallocating the remaining wordsReading the criteria with their allocations in week one
A limit discovered lateNo cost; the structure is planned around itSevere, because cutting a third of a piece damages all of itThe one-page limits document per subject, built at the start
Drift in the research questionNone, if versions are dated and comparedModerate; the final piece answers a different question than it claimsA kept version history, which makes drift visible
05

The draft record, and why it protects the student

Every session on an Internal Assessment produces a dated version of the student's own document with comments in its margin, and all versions are kept. That record has two uses. The first is practical: it makes drift visible. A research question that was narrowed in October and quietly broadened again by January shows up as a comparison rather than as a vague sense that the piece has lost focus.

The second use is protective and worth stating plainly. A version history showing a question narrowing over weeks, with comments that ask questions rather than supply answers, is evidence that the thinking was the student's. A single polished document that appeared in one week is not evidence of anything. Schools and boards do occasionally ask how a piece was produced, and a student with a version history is in a very different position from one without.

The comments themselves follow a convention that keeps the boundary clean: they are written as questions and criterion references rather than as corrections. 'Which criterion is this paragraph addressing?' 'Criterion E rewards mathematics at the level of the course — which part of the course does this use?' 'What was the dominant source of uncertainty here, and how do you know?' A student who answers those questions in writing has done the work. A student handed a corrected paragraph has not.

Parents receive the version history rather than a summary of it. Internal assessment is produced over weeks without a mark attached, which makes it the easiest part of the Diploma for a family to be reassured about and the hardest to verify. A dated file is the verification, and reading it takes five minutes.

06

Abu Dhabi deadlines, ADEK, and who may help

Abu Dhabi's private schools are regulated by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages found in this research, which is a notable omission on pages addressed to Abu Dhabi families, and it is the body whose framework the school's own policies sit inside.

The deadline structure a family actually has to work to is the school's rather than the board's. Abu Dhabi Diploma programmes set internal submission dates ahead of the IB's own upload schedule, they differ between schools, and they sometimes differ between subjects in the same school. Ask the IB coordinator for the full internal deadline schedule in writing at the start of each Diploma year. A student's recollection of an assembly is not a planning document, and the most common Internal Assessment emergency is a deadline that was known to the school and not to the family.

There is one rule specific to this emirate that families should know before arranging help. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. This is press-reported rather than read from ADEK's current policy document, so verify it against the authority's own publication before relying on it; the practical point is that the arrangement a parent might think of first may not be permitted.

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated more generally. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Applications go through MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service with a stated two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published.

07

What Internal Assessment support costs in Abu Dhabi

This is among the cheapest interventions in the Diploma measured per mark available, because it is block-booked rather than held weekly. A feasibility session is one hour per component. A drafting block is three or four sessions per component, placed against the school's deadlines. A triage session covering two or three components at once is a single piece of work. Nothing here is a year-long weekly commitment, and a provider proposing one for Internal Assessment is proposing the wrong shape.

Published rates in this market, read in October 2026: EdFlik lists online tuition from AED 45-65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33-52; Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150; TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist work; the Bestimate rate survey puts IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above; BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Internal assessment work needs criterion-referenced reading, which places it at the qualified band or above rather than at the budget tier.

Set against the weightings, the arithmetic is favourable. A science investigation carries twenty per cent of a subject grade and is produced without time pressure; four sessions at the qualified band is a small outlay against a fifth of a grade. The same four sessions spent on examination technique in the same subject would be a reasonable purchase too, and would address a smaller share of the grade with less certainty, because examination performance depends on the day and Internal Assessment does not.

The in-home comparison is the same as across this market: the Bestimate survey puts qualified in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for comparable work online. For Internal Assessment the online format is also the correct one, because the work is margin comments on a shared document and a kept version history, neither of which survives a visit and a paper draft. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service.

08

What to refuse, at any price

  • A completed Internal Assessment, at any price, because the student carries it
  • A guaranteed mark, which no provider controls at either marking stage
  • An editing service, which quietly produces the editor's sentences
  • Bundles of exemplar Internal Assessments or reproduced IB material

A completed Internal Assessment. One UAE-facing site advertises them at AED 3,750, and what is being sold is a malpractice finding with a seventeen-year-old's name on it. The Diploma itself is the exposure, not a grade in one subject. No framing makes this a reasonable purchase, and a provider offering it has told a family everything they need to know about everything else it offers.

A guaranteed mark or band. Internal assessment is marked by the school and moderated externally, and no provider controls either step. A promise about an Internal Assessment band is a sales position rather than a description of how the component is assessed. What can be committed to honestly is that a draft will be read against the published criteria and that the criterion it falls short of will be named.

An editing service. This is the dangerous one because it sounds legitimate. Editing a draft until the sentences are correct produces the editor's sentences, and the student submits work that is partly not theirs without anybody intending malpractice. The honest version is feedback written as questions and criterion references, with the student performing every rewrite, which is slower and produces a defensible piece of work.

A bundle of exemplar Internal Assessments. Subject guides, past papers, mark schemes and exemplar material belong to the International Baccalaureate, and circulating copies is both a copyright matter and, where the exemplars are used as templates, a route to work that is not the student's own. The legitimate version is referencing the official material and linking to ibo.org. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from the International Baccalaureate, ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education or MoHRE, and operates no UAE office or centre.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Delivery is online, so a student works with a tutor matched to their subject guide rather than to their neighbourhood. What the area changes is the school calendar and the commute that shapes when a drafting session can happen.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Villa communities with long school-bus routes and a dense concentration of international schools nearby. Drafting sessions here usually land after six, with written feedback sent the same night so it is read in the morning rather than discussed when nobody is alert.

Al Reem Island and Al Maryah

Apartment living and short commutes, which makes an after-school slot practical. Internal Assessment work needs a document and a screen rather than silence, so the constraint here is lighter than for subjects requiring timed papers.

Saadiyat Island

A small number of schools with mature Diploma programmes and well-defined internal deadline schedules. Families here often already know the school's dates, which makes planning the drafting sequence straightforward.

Yas Island and Al Zeina

Growing residential communities with students travelling across the island network to school. Fieldwork-based Internal Assessments in geography are affected directly, because the data has to be collectable within a realistic travel radius.

Al Bateen, Al Mushrif and the Corniche

Established schools and long-running Diploma cohorts, where supervisors are allocated early and internal deadlines are well published. The gap a tutor fills in this cluster is individual draft reading against criteria rather than process explanation.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

Longer commutes and a wide curricular mix, with some students having transferred into the Diploma from other systems. Transfers frequently need the whole Internal Assessment landscape explained before any single component is addressed.

Al Reef, Al Shamkha and Al Ain

Greater distances and, for Al Ain, a separate school ecosystem under the same emirate regulator. Online delivery matters most here, because the pool of tutors who have taught a specific subject guide is not available locally.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi island and Saadiyat IB provision

Khalifa City, Al Raha and the eastern communities

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the six subjects and the school's internal deadlines

The useful opening message lists the six subjects with their levels and attaches the school's internal Internal Assessment deadline schedule, obtained in writing from the IB coordinator. Without the dates a drafting sequence cannot be planned, and the deadline is the one variable a family cannot change.

  2. 02

    Build the one-page limits document

For each subject, what the Internal Assessment is, its limit, how many criteria it carries and what each is worth, confirmed against the current subject guide for that cohort. One hour of work, and it prevents more problems than any amount of later drafting advice.

  3. 03

Free 30-minute trial lesson, one per family

Live video with the matched tutor, no card details taken, no obligation. It is spent reading the student's current research question against the criteria for their subject and saying plainly whether it can produce what those criteria reward.

One feasibility session per component, early

Placed before drafting and before any apparatus, fieldwork or organisation access is committed. The written outcome is one of three things: proceed, narrow, or choose a different question. This is the single cheapest intervention available in the Diploma.

  5. 05

Drafting block against the school's dates

Three or four sessions per component, each reading the student's current version against the criteria and commenting in the margin of their own file as questions rather than corrections. Every version is kept and dated, and the student performs every rewrite.

  6. 06

Triage if several arrive at once

Where two or three components land together in Diploma Year 2, one session produces a written order of work, including the honest recommendation to submit something as it stands. That recommendation is sometimes the most valuable thing in the report.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Criteria named by letter and allocation

Every comment refers to a specific criterion and what it is worth, because that is the basis on which the mark is awarded. Competitor pages in this market discuss Internal Assessment at length and name not a single criterion, which leaves students with advice instead of a specification.

Feasibility before drafting, always

One session per component, early, testing whether the question can produce what the criteria reward and whether the data can actually be collected. Every Internal Assessment failure is cheap to fix at that point and expensive to fix afterwards.

Comments are questions, not corrections

Feedback is written as questions and criterion references in the margin of the student's own document, and the student performs every rewrite. Editing a draft until it reads well produces the editor's sentences, which is the line most easily crossed without anyone intending to.

Version history kept and dated

The record makes drift visible and demonstrates that the thinking was the student's. A question narrowing over weeks with questioning comments is evidence; a polished document that appeared in one week is not.

The limits document comes first

One page per student listing each subject's component, its limit and its criteria, confirmed against the current guide. Most Internal Assessment crises involve a limit or a criterion discovered late, and the page costs an hour.

Abu Dhabi specifics stated

ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation of the emirate's private schools, its professional-ethics rules restrict school staff from paid tutoring of their own students, and the school's internal deadlines bind a family rather than the board's. None of that appears on competitor pages addressed to this emirate.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What exactly is an IB Internal Assessment?+

It is the internally assessed component of a Diploma subject, marked by the school and moderated externally, and it is a different task in every subject. The sciences require an individual scientific investigation with a 3,000-word ceiling and 24 marks across four criteria. Mathematics requires a written exploration with five criteria lettered A to E. Economics requires three commentaries of 800 words each on different syllabus units from different published news sources. History, psychology, geography and business management each set something different again. The shared name is the only thing these components have in common.

What share of an Abu Dhabi student.s subject grade does the IA decide?+

In the sciences and in mathematics it is typically twenty per cent, and in several other subjects it is higher. The figure matters because of what it is twenty per cent of: a fifth of a subject grade awarded for work produced over weeks without time pressure, in conditions the student controls. That makes it the most recoverable portion of the Diploma and also the easiest place to give marks away, because nothing about the process generates a warning until the piece is submitted. Confirm the exact weighting for each of your child's subjects against the current guide.

What are the four criteria for an IB science investigation?+

Research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each carrying six of twenty-four marks, with the component weighted at twenty per cent of the subject grade and a 3,000-word ceiling. Research design rewards a focused question with a genuinely variable independent quantity and properly controlled variables. Data analysis rewards correct processing, graphing and treatment of uncertainty. Conclusion rewards a reading of the results related to accepted science. Evaluation rewards identifying which source of uncertainty actually dominated, which requires the uncertainty work to have been done during collection.

Which five criteria is the maths exploration marked against, and what is each worth?+

Five, lettered A to E across twenty marks: A presentation, B mathematical communication, C personal engagement, D reflection and E use of mathematics, with use of mathematics carrying the largest single allocation. The practical consequence is that topic choice is a mark decision rather than a matter of taste, because criterion E rewards mathematics commensurate with the course and a topic that permits only arithmetic caps the piece however well it is written. Personal engagement and reflection together carry a meaningful share, which stops a student treating both as decoration around the mathematics.

Why do IB Internal Assessment research questions fail?+

Three reasons, consistent across subjects. The question cannot produce what the criteria reward — an independent variable with two or three usable values cannot produce a graph, so data analysis has little to assess. The data cannot be collected, because the apparatus is not held, the fieldwork site is unreachable, the organisation will not answer or the replication cannot be run ethically. Or the criteria were never read, so a competent piece allocated one paragraph to a criterion worth a quarter of the marks. All three are cheap to fix before drafting and expensive afterwards.

Exactly what may a tutor do with an Internal Assessment draft?+

Read it and comment in its margin. Ask what the independent variable is, how many values will be tested, and whether the data will support the conclusion. Name the criterion a paragraph is failing and state what that criterion rewards. Teach the subject content or the statistical method the component needs. Mark the draft against the criteria and say what band it currently sits in. What a tutor may not do is supply text that appears in the submission, rewrite a paragraph into its final form, choose the research question, perform the calculations, supply data or design the experiment.

Is paying someone to edit an IB Internal Assessment allowed?+

Treat an editing service as the dangerous option, because it sounds legitimate and is not. Editing a draft until the sentences are correct produces the editor's sentences, and the student then submits work that is partly not their own without anybody intending malpractice. The defensible version is feedback written as questions and criterion references, with the student performing every rewrite themselves. It is slower and it produces a piece that is theirs. Ask any provider to state in writing where their line sits, and be cautious of one that describes its service as polishing.

What happens if a submitted Internal Assessment is not the student's own work?+

The consequence falls on the student rather than on whoever supplied the help, and what is at stake is the Diploma itself rather than a grade in one subject. That asymmetry is the whole argument for the strict boundary. The market in this region contains providers selling exactly what is prohibited: one UAE-facing site advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is not a premium service with a risk attached; it is a transfer of risk onto a seventeen-year-old, and no price makes it a reasonable purchase.

When should an Abu Dhabi Diploma student start their Internal Assessments?+

Most science and mathematics Internal Assessment work begins late in Diploma Year 1, and the useful intervention comes earlier than that. A single feasibility session per component, placed before any drafting, apparatus booking or fieldwork commitment, removes most of the crises that otherwise arrive together in Year 2. The other early act is administrative: ask the IB coordinator in writing for the school's internal deadline schedule, because those dates differ between schools and sometimes between subjects within a school, and they are the dates that actually bind a family.

Why does a dated draft history matter?+

For two reasons. It makes drift visible: a research question narrowed in October and quietly broadened by January shows up as a comparison rather than as a vague feeling that the piece has lost focus. And it protects the student. A version history showing a question narrowing over weeks, with comments that ask questions rather than supply answers, is evidence that the thinking was the student's own. A single polished document that appeared in one week is evidence of nothing, and schools and boards do occasionally ask how a piece was produced.

Who sets the Internal Assessment deadlines in an Abu Dhabi school?+

The school, ahead of the IB's own upload schedule, and the school's dates are the ones a family has to work to. They differ between schools in the emirate and sometimes between subjects within the same school, which is why they should be obtained in writing from the IB coordinator at the start of each Diploma year rather than inferred. The most common Internal Assessment emergency in this market is a deadline that was known to the school and not to the family, and a student's recollection of an assembly is not a planning document.

Can my child's own teacher help with their Internal Assessment privately in Abu Dhabi?+

Ask the school before arranging anything. That information is press-reported rather than read from the authority's current policy document, so verify it against ADEK's own publication. The school supervisor relationship for an Internal Assessment is in any case the school's and separate from any paid arrangement.

What does Internal Assessment support cost in Abu Dhabi?+

It is block-booked rather than weekly, which keeps the total small. A feasibility session is one hour per component. A drafting block is three or four sessions per component against the school's deadlines. Published rates read in October 2026 put a qualified online subject tutor at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors listing IB tuition from AED 200 and TutorChase quoting AED 270 for specialist work. The work needs criterion-referenced reading, so it sits at the qualified band rather than the budget tier. Measured against a fifth of a subject grade, four sessions is a favourable outlay.

Does online Internal Assessment support work as well as someone in the room?+

For this component it works better. The work is comments in the margin of the student's own document with the subject guide's criteria visible alongside, and every version saved and dated. A kept version history is the thing that makes drift visible and that demonstrates the work was the student's, and it does not survive a home visit and a paper draft. The published cost difference also runs one way: AED 180-350 for qualified in-home work against AED 150-300 online. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere in the UAE; that is an India-only service.

What if no tutor is available for our subject's Internal Assessment?+

You should be told, because a substitution does real damage here. A tutor who has not taught the specific subject guide will not know its criteria or its limits, and criterion-referenced reading is the entire service. Niche components run short — Higher Level Further Mathematics, Music, Theatre, Global Politics, a Group 2 language — and the honest options are a wait with a date attached, a tutor based outside the UAE delivering on the same live video platform and on Gulf Standard Time, or a referral elsewhere. No competitor page found in this market discloses a coverage limit at all.

Build the one-page limits document first

Before buying any Internal Assessment help, make the page nobody has: each of your child's six subjects, what its internally assessed component actually is, its word or page limit, how many criteria it carries and what each is worth, confirmed against the current subject guide. Then ask the IB coordinator in writing for the school's internal deadlines. Those two documents prevent most Internal Assessment crises and cost nothing but an hour. After that, one feasibility session per component, early, is the cheapest useful purchase in the whole Diploma.
