IGCSE Maths Tutor in Hudayriyat Island

Hiring an IGCSE maths tutor in Hudayriyat Island is usually bought by the hour and should be budgeted by the job. A tier change, a trigonometry gap and a non-calculator fluency problem take wildly different amounts of time, and the rate matters far less than the number of hours. This page prices the common jobs, names the Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 detail behind each one, and sets out how one-to-one lessons over live video keep the cost on teaching rather than on travel.

  • Costs quoted by the job, with the hours each job typically takes
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 treated as separate specifications
  • Tier placement checked before a term of sessions is bought
  • Lessons one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in Hudayriyat Island

Budget the job, not the hour

Almost every conversation about an IGCSE maths tutor starts with a rate and then stalls, because a rate on its own answers nothing. AED 200 an hour for six hours is AED 1,200; AED 200 an hour for a year is closer to AED 7,000. What a family on Hudayriyat Island actually needs to know is how many hours the particular problem takes, and that depends on which problem it is. Tier misplacement, a specific topic gap, weak non-calculator arithmetic and poor exam technique are four different jobs with four different costs.

The market bands are easy enough to state. A qualified subject tutor working online in the UAE is published between roughly AED 150 and 300 an hour; Unitors lists IGCSE from AED 150. Budget-tier online provision runs lower — EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 — and buys a textbook walk-through rather than mark-scheme knowledge. Specialist IGCSE and A-Level tutors are quoted from AED 200 to 450 and upward, and in-home arrangements from AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate. Those are other providers' published figures, read in October 2026, and not an IB Gram price list.

Set against hours, those bands behave differently than they look. A fluency problem in Extended tier algebra typically needs short, frequent practice rather than long sessions, so a mid-band tutor at AED 200 an hour over eight weeks is a modest total. A tier problem discovered in March of Year 11 cannot be solved by hours at all; it needs a conversation with the school that should have happened a year earlier. Paying specialist rates for the first job is unnecessary, and paying any rate for the second is money spent on the wrong thing entirely.

Hudayriyat Island adds one specific distortion. The island is reached by bridge from Al Bateen, the residential handovers here are recent, and there is no established local teaching community, so an in-home tutor is travelling from the mainland or from along Abu Dhabi island. That travel is inside the rate whether or not the invoice says so, and it also narrows the list to whoever will make the crossing twice a week in the right specification and tier. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service.

What follows is a page built around the hours. It names the four jobs families on this island actually buy, says roughly how long each takes and why, sets Core against Extended and Foundation against Higher so the tier conversation can happen with evidence, and explains what the papers reward well enough that you can judge a tutor's answers rather than take them on trust. Every AED figure carries its source, and the exam series are named by month so nothing on the page goes stale.

One framing that helps more than any rate comparison: ask what the job is before asking what the hour costs. A single diagnostic session against a marked past paper tells you which of the four jobs you are buying, and buying the wrong one well is more expensive than buying the right one at a premium.

At a glance

  • Four distinct jobs: tier placement, topic gap, fluency, exam technique — each with its own hour count
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are separate specifications with different tier names
  • A tier problem found in Year 11 is a school conversation, not a tutoring purchase
  • Published market rate for a qualified online tutor: roughly AED 150–300 an hour
  • In-home rates run AED 180–500 with the drive to the island inside the rate
  • Lessons are one-to-one over live video; IB Gram runs no UAE home visits

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Hudayriyat Island families sit IGCSE mathematics through one of two boards, with Cambridge's earlier stages feeding into it and A Level sitting above. The stage and the board together decide what a maths tutor is actually working on.

0580Ages 14–16 · Years 10–11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

Cambridge's main IGCSE mathematics syllabus, entered at Core or Extended tier. Core covers a reduced content set with a lower grade ceiling; Extended covers the full set and is the entry route for A Level mathematics. Both tiers are examined through written papers with no coursework component, which means paper technique carries the whole mark and there is nowhere else to recover it.

Abu Dhabi centres belong to one of Cambridge's six administrative zones, and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Take the timetable from your own school's exams officer, not from a general calendar found online.

4MA1Ages 14–16 · Years 10–11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A

Pearson's international GCSE mathematics, graded 9 to 1 and entered at Foundation or Higher tier. Two written papers, with the calculator permitted throughout, which changes the balance of skills compared with Cambridge. The formula provision and the style of the longer questions differ enough that past papers from the other board are of limited use.

Pearson International GCSE runs in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November results arrive in January — November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Plan from the live official timetable on qualifications.pearson.com, because provisional versions are revised.

ADD MATHSAges 15–16 · Year 11

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics

Taken alongside the main syllabus by students heading for A Level mathematics, physics or engineering. Calculus, binomial expansion and trigonometric identities arrive here before A Level, which makes it the single best preparation available and also the course where confident Extended students most often stall. Worth real tutoring hours if the A Level route is already decided.

Not every Abu Dhabi school offers it, and availability varies between campuses even within the same district. A Hudayriyat Island family whose school does not run it, but whose child intends to take A Level mathematics, should treat the bridging work in Year 11 as a deliberate purchase rather than an optional extra.

CHECKPOINTAges 11–14 · Years 7–9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The stage before IGCSE, assessed through Checkpoint tests. These results are the earliest honest indicator of whether a child is on a Core or an Extended trajectory, and they arrive while the gap is still cheap to close. Cambridge runs Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October.

For cost purposes this is the most important programme on the page. A Year 8 Checkpoint result acted on costs a handful of general-rate sessions. The same gap discovered in a Year 11 mock costs specialist-rate hours under time pressure and may no longer be fixable before the entry deadline.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

An IGCSE maths tutor working with a Hudayriyat Island student spends their hours in a small number of places. These are listed with the honest hour cost of each, because that is what determines the bill rather than the rate.

Number, ratio and percentage fluency

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Reverse percentages, compound interest and ratio problems carry marks across the whole paper and are the most common source of silent errors in otherwise competent students. Cheap to fix: short, frequent practice over a few weeks rather than extended sessions. A fluency job, typically six to ten hours spread thinly.

Algebraic manipulation and rearranging

Extended and Higher mainly

Factorising, algebraic fractions, simultaneous equations and changing the subject of a formula. These are the skills every later topic depends on, so a weakness here looks like a weakness everywhere. Typically the largest single hour commitment on an Extended tier plan, and the one that pays for itself fastest.

Trigonometry beyond right-angled triangles

Extended and Higher

The sine and cosine rules, area of a triangle, bearings and three-dimensional problems. Students who are fine with SOHCAHTOA frequently collapse here because the problems require a decision about which rule applies before any calculation starts. A topic job: often four to eight hours, with a clear endpoint.

Graphs, functions and transformations

Extended and Higher

Quadratic and reciprocal graphs, intersections, gradients and the transformation sequences. Marks are lost on sketching rather than on calculation, because the harder questions use a sketch as the setup. Teachable in a defined block, and worth doing before the mock rather than after it.

Probability and statistics

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Tree diagrams, conditional probability, cumulative frequency and histograms with unequal class widths. The histogram question is the reliable mark-loser at Higher and Extended tier. A short topic job, but one that is frequently skipped in revision because it looks easy on the surface.

Geometry, circle theorems and similarity

Extended and Higher

Circle theorems need to be learned as named results with named conditions, and students lose marks by seeing a configuration and guessing. Similarity and congruence proofs reward a method. Four to six hours closes most of the gap, provided the student writes reasons rather than answers.

Non-calculator arithmetic and surds

Cambridge Paper 1 and Paper 3

Cambridge's non-calculator paper exposes arithmetic that a calculator has been hiding for years. Surd manipulation, index laws and standard form are the specific points of failure. Pure fluency work, cheap per hour and ineffective in long sessions: fifteen minutes daily beats two hours weekly.

Multi-step problem solving at the back of the paper

Extended and Higher

The final questions chain three or four techniques with no intermediate confirmation. Students lose marks by abandoning rather than by error. This is an exam-technique job rather than a content one, and it responds to full timed papers with marking, not to topic exercises.

Method marks and the presentation of working

All tiers, both boards

A substantial share of recoverable marks sit in working that is legible, ordered and shows the intermediate step. Students who do mental arithmetic and write only the answer lose method marks on questions they understood. The fastest improvement available to most candidates and almost never taught explicitly.

Additional Mathematics: calculus and identities

Cambridge Additional Mathematics

Differentiation and integration, binomial expansion and trigonometric identities, taken alongside the main syllabus. Confident Extended students stall here because the abstraction level rises rather than the difficulty. Worth specialist rates if A Level mathematics is the destination.

Tier diagnosis and course placement

Core versus Extended · Foundation versus Higher

Not a topic but the most consequential piece of work a tutor does. One marked past paper at each tier settles whether a student is correctly entered, and the answer has to reach the school before the final entry deadline. One or two hours, and it occasionally saves a year of misdirected sessions.

Bridging into AS and A Level Mathematics

Post-IGCSE

A Level assumes Extended or Higher tier content as a starting floor. A student entered for Core or Foundation has a structural gap to close before AS is realistic, and a student from Extended tier still needs algebraic fluency at a higher standard. A defined summer block rather than an open-ended commitment.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four shapes of maths work, priced differently because the hour counts differ. Choosing the shape before the rate is the single decision that most affects what a family on this island actually spends.

Tier and gap diagnosis

One or two sessions against marked past papers at both tiers, producing a written answer to a specific question: is this child correctly entered, and if not, what has to be said to the school and by when. For a Year 10 or early Year 11 student this is the highest-value purchase available, because it can prevent a term of sessions aimed at the wrong problem.

  • A past paper at each tier, marked against the published criteria
  • A written list of insecure topics with the paper references attached
  • A clear recommendation on tier, with the reasoning shown
  • No obligation to continue afterwards

Short topic block

Four to eight sessions aimed at a named topic — trigonometry beyond right-angled triangles, circle theorems, histograms with unequal class widths. Defined start, defined end, defined cost. This is how most of the actual mark gain in IGCSE maths is bought, and it compares well against an open-ended weekly arrangement that drifts.

  • A single named topic per block, with past-paper questions throughout
  • A fixed number of sessions agreed before it starts
  • Marked homework between sessions, returned with comments
  • Re-tested at the end on unseen questions

Fluency practice pattern

Short, frequent sessions for arithmetic, surds, index laws and algebraic manipulation, which do not respond to long lessons. The pattern matters more than the hours: fifteen or twenty minutes of drilled practice most days outperforms a two-hour weekly session, and part of the tutor's job is setting that up and checking it rather than delivering it.

  • Short sessions, high frequency, narrow focus
  • Daily practice set and checked between sessions
  • Aimed squarely at Cambridge's non-calculator paper
  • Reviewed on timing and accuracy, not on completion

Exam-technique block before the series

Full timed papers, marked, with the marking conversation as the lesson. The target is method marks, legible working and the multi-step questions at the back of the paper that students abandon rather than get wrong. Booked as a block in the six to eight weeks before the June or November series rather than as additional weekly hours.

  • Complete papers under real timing, not topic exercises
  • Mark-scheme language applied to the student's own script
  • Explicit work on presentation of working and method marks
  • Scheduled around the school's own mock timetable

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Hudayriyat Island

01

What each maths job actually costs, in hours and in AED

A qualified subject tutor working online in this market is published between roughly AED 150 and 300 an hour. Multiply that by the hours a specific job takes and the picture becomes usable. A topic block of six sessions is somewhere between AED 900 and 1,800. A fluency pattern spread over two months, using short sessions, often lands lower in total than a single month of long weekly lessons. An exam-technique block of eight full papers with marking is the biggest single item, and also the one with the most predictable return.

The job that costs least and saves most is diagnosis. One or two hours produces a written answer to whether the student is correctly entered for their tier and which topics are genuinely insecure. Families who skip it tend to buy a weekly slot in October and discover in March that the problem was placement. Two terms of weekly sessions at mid-market rates is roughly AED 3,000 to 6,000 in total; the diagnostic that would have redirected it is a rounding error against that.

Two jobs are routinely mispriced in opposite directions. Fluency work is bought at specialist rates when it needs frequency rather than expertise — a competent tutor at the lower end of the qualified band is the right purchase, and the money should go into more frequent, shorter sessions. Conversely, Additional Mathematics and the multi-step problem solving at the back of an Extended paper are bought at budget rates when they genuinely need somebody who has marked the paper, and the hour is wasted at any price.

The table below prices the common jobs by hours rather than by rate, with the market band applied so the total is visible. The rates are other providers' published figures read in October 2026. IB Gram quotes its own pricing after a free trial lesson and against the actual plan, because a single hourly figure applied across every tier and job is how competitor pages end up contradicting themselves within one page.

02

Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher: the decision that costs the most money

Tier placement is the most expensive variable in IGCSE mathematics and the one families understand least. Cambridge 0580 splits into Core and Extended. Pearson 4MA1 splits into Foundation and Higher. The lower tier in each pair covers less content and carries a lower grade ceiling, so a student entered at the lower tier cannot reach the grades the higher tier makes available, regardless of how well they perform on the day.

The consequences run forward. A Level mathematics, and by extension engineering, physics, economics and many other university routes, assume the higher tier content as a starting point rather than an aspiration. A student entered for Core or Foundation who intends to take A Level mathematics has a structural problem, and it is a problem that gets more expensive the later it is identified, because closing it eventually competes with new A Level content for the same hours.

The entry deadline is the hard edge. Final entries are made by the school's exams officer months before the papers, and a tier change has to be agreed before that date. Once entries are in, the tier is fixed for that series. This is why the diagnostic conversation belongs in Year 10 or very early Year 11 rather than after the mocks, and why a tutor who raises it in the first session is worth more than one who quietly works within whatever tier they were handed.

What a tutor can usefully contribute is evidence. A past paper at each tier, marked honestly, converts a conversation about potential into a conversation about marks, and schools respond to marks. The table below sets the two pairs out side by side so a parent can walk into that meeting knowing what is actually being decided.

Where the money gets wasted on this island specifically

  • Paying the in-home premium for work a shared screen does equally well
  • Buying long sessions for a problem that needs short frequent practice
  • Committing to a package without the hourly equivalent and cancellation terms in writing
  • Letting a tutor work from the wrong specification's past papers
  • Leaving the tier question until after the mocks, when entries are already in
  • Paying specialist rates for homework supervision, or budget rates for Additional Mathematics

The first waste is paying a travel premium for a maths lesson that gains nothing from physical presence. In-home arrangements in this market are quoted between AED 180 and 500 an hour with the drive inside the rate, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor working online. For a Year 10 student working through past papers with a shared screen and a visible worked solution, the premium buys a car journey across the Hudayriyat bridge and nothing that appears in the marking.

The second is buying hours in the wrong shape. Non-calculator arithmetic does not improve during a two-hour weekly lesson; it improves through short daily practice that somebody checks. Families who buy long sessions for a fluency problem spend more and get less, and then conclude that tutoring does not work for their child. The tutor's job on a fluency problem is partly to set up and police a pattern rather than to fill the hour.

The third is the unexamined monthly package. Plans circulating in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four in-home visits of two hours. Both look tidy and both conceal the same three things: the effective hourly rate, what a cancellation costs, and what happens to unused sessions. Ask for all three in writing before committing to a term.

The fourth is specific to maths and almost universal. Working from the wrong board's past papers wastes every hour of every session. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ in tier names, calculator rules, formula provision and question style, and a tutor who has not asked which specification your child sits is not going to discover the mismatch on their own. Ask for the code, not the board name, and get it from the school's exams officer.

04

What the Cambridge and Pearson papers actually reward

Marks in IGCSE mathematics are not distributed the way students assume. A large share of recoverable marks live in method rather than in answers, which means the presentation of working is worth real points. A student who performs a step mentally and writes only the result loses method marks on questions they fully understood, and that loss is invisible to them because they believe they got the question right. Correcting this habit is the fastest grade movement available to most candidates.

Command vocabulary matters more than it appears to. Show that, prove, hence, and verify each require something different, and hence in particular means the previous part must be used. Students who restart a question from scratch after a part marked hence have thrown away the structure the examiner built for them. These conventions are rarely taught explicitly and are quick to teach once named.

The back of the paper is where tier-appropriate students lose grades. Those questions chain three or four techniques with no confirmation along the way that the route is correct, and most candidates abandon rather than err. The skill is tolerance for ambiguity under time pressure, and it is trained by doing complete papers rather than topic exercises. Any tutoring plan that never has the student sit a full paper under timing is incomplete.

Cambridge's non-calculator paper deserves separate mention because it exposes arithmetic a calculator has been concealing. Surd manipulation, index laws and standard form are the specific failure points, and they are pure fluency rather than comprehension. Pearson's calculator-throughout structure removes that exposure and introduces a different one: students who trust the display and never sanity-check a result.

05

The June and November series, read backwards from the money

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series. Pearson International GCSE runs May/June and November. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to candidates in India only, so a UAE family planning around those dates would be preparing for a window their child cannot enter. That mistake has a real cost attached, which is why it belongs in a section about money rather than only in a calendar.

Read backwards, the cheap decision points all sit early. A Checkpoint result in Year 8 or a Year 9 internal assessment, acted on with a short topic block at general rates, costs a fraction of the same gap addressed in the spring of Year 11 at specialist rates with the entry deadline already passed. Cambridge runs Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and those results are the earliest honest signal a parent gets.

The expensive decision points cluster in the final two terms, and they are expensive partly because everybody wants the same hours. Demand for tier-experienced maths tutors across Abu Dhabi concentrates in the months before the June series, which tightens availability and firms up rates. A family that books an exam-technique block in advance pays for the block; a family that books it in the last fortnight pays for scarcity, if the slot exists at all.

Results and resits carry their own arithmetic. For Pearson, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. That January timing matters: a November resit entered after disappointing June grades produces results in the middle of the university application cycle rather than before it, which changes what a resit is worth. Confirm every date with the school's exams officer and the live official timetable.

ADEK, the tutoring permit, and what a parent is entitled to ask

Abu Dhabi's private schools are regulated by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes inspection ratings. Dubai's regulator is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Sharjah's is the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. A Hudayriyat Island family is inside the ADEK system.

Tutoring is permitted separately. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The MoHRE service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the smart app, website and e-services system.

Because the permit costs nothing, a tutor's failure to hold one is not a cost question. Anyone providing private lessons without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Abu Dhabi adds a conflict rule: ADEK's professional-ethics expectations restrict private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a comparable bar. Hiring your child's own maths teacher privately is not a route to pursue here.

IB Gram holds no ADEK permit, no KHDA permit and no board accreditation, and makes no claim to any. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a licence issued to a specific kind of entity. What a parent can reasonably ask us for is the tutor's permit position, the specification and tier they have taught, and a free trial lesson before any money changes hands.

07

What a maths tutor may and may not do, and what we will not sell you

IGCSE mathematics carries no coursework component at either board, which removes the academic-honesty problem that dogs other subjects. There is still a boundary worth stating. A tutor may teach, set problems, mark work, explain a mark scheme's reasoning and work through a past paper question. A tutor may not sit an assessment, complete work submitted as the student's own, or supply material a board has not released. Providers in this market who sell completed assessed work for other subjects exist, and the consequence of buying from them falls on the candidate.

Board material is the second line. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson. We reference them and point to the official source rather than reproducing or distributing them. A provider handing over a bundle of copied board documents is telling you how it treats rules generally, and that is worth noticing before you hand over a term's fees.

The third is the claim boundary, which is where most of this market falls down. There is no self-asserted star rating on this page, no percentage of students achieving anything without the underlying data, and no tutor described as an examiner without the board, component and years behind it. Competitor pages in this cluster publish contradictory ratings within a single page and a review count that cannot be reconciled with their own student numbers.

And one promise that will not appear anywhere here: a grade. No tutor can guarantee a grade, and any provider offering one is either misunderstanding the assessment or misrepresenting it. What can honestly be offered is a diagnosis, a plan with a stated hour count, marked work that shows whether the plan is working, and the willingness to change the match or say the problem lies elsewhere.

08

Starting from Hudayriyat Island: four messages and a free lesson

Tell us four things and the match becomes straightforward: the school, the specification code and tier, the most recent assessment mark with the paper if you have it, and the times that genuinely work once the bridge crossing and the school run are accounted for. The specification code is the one families most often cannot supply and the one that matters most, and the school's exams officer can confirm it in a minute.

The first lesson is a free trial with no card required. Spend it on diagnosis rather than on a sample lesson: ask for a past-paper question worked and marked live, and ask at the end which of the four jobs this is — tier, topic, fluency or technique. A tutor who names it and estimates the hours is giving you a budget. A tutor who offers a weekly slot without naming the problem is giving you a subscription.

Pricing follows the trial and the plan rather than preceding them, because the hour count is what determines the total and the hour count depends on the diagnosis. For comparison while you decide, the published market figures used throughout this page were read in October 2026: AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor, AED 200 to 450 and upward for specialists, AED 180 to 500 in-home with travel included, and monthly packages at AED 799 online or AED 1,599 to 1,799 in-home.

Two last honest notes. If no tutor with the right specification and tier experience is free in the slot you need, we will say so and give a date rather than filling it with a generalist, and if the available specialist is based outside the UAE we disclose that before anything is booked, with sessions timed to Gulf Standard Time. And enquiry forms here collect a child's year group, school, board and subject because a match needs them; we do not ask for grades, documents or photographs at that stage, and the privacy policy linked on every page explains deletion, which is a UAE obligation under Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021.

A separate island with a separate bridge and its own cohort. An in-home maths tutor covering both Saadiyat and Hudayriyat in one evening drives the length of Abu Dhabi island between appointments, which is why that arrangement rarely survives a term.

Al Reem Island

High-density towers with a large British-curriculum population. Reem and Hudayriyat families are bidding for the same Extended tier and Higher tier maths tutors in the months before the June series.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

The corridor along the Abu Dhabi–Dubai road, with concentrated British-curriculum enrolment and heavy late-afternoon traffic. Maths sessions here are better booked after dinner, because arithmetic accuracy falls off sharply with tiredness.

Khalifa City

Villa communities with a large IGCSE intake and a well-documented school-run bottleneck. The same tier questions arise here, and the same travel loading applies to any in-home rate quoted for the island.

Al Reef and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Mainland communities far enough from the island campuses that an in-home specialist is often simply unavailable rather than merely expensive. The constraint disappears entirely when the lesson is delivered over video.

Yas Island and the Corniche

Opposite ends of the city, both inside the same tutor market. The distance between them is the clearest illustration of why filtering a maths tutor by proximity to Hudayriyat removes most of the qualified candidates.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Hudayriyat Island

Abu Dhabi island — western and central campuses

The schools Hudayriyat Island families reach across the bridge. Boards differ between these campuses and sometimes between subjects within one campus, which is why the specification code matters more than the school name when briefing a maths tutor.

  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi Grammar School (Canada)
  • Cambridge High School Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Al Mamoura Academy

Al Reem, Al Raha and Khalifa City corridor

The eastern catchment with dense British-curriculum provision. This is where demand for Extended and Higher tier maths help is heaviest in the spring term, and where families most often discover a tier problem too late in the entry cycle to act on it.

  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

These schools are named as context for the Abu Dhabi curriculum picture only; IB Gram has no affiliation with, relationship to or endorsement from any of them, and board, tier and inspection detail should be confirmed with the school and with ADEK.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the specification code from the school

Not the board name — the code. Cambridge mathematics is 0580, Pearson Specification A is 4MA1, and Additional Mathematics is separate again. Ask the exams officer for the code and the tier your child is entered for. Five minutes here prevents a tutor working from the wrong past papers, which wastes every hour that follows.

  2. 02

Buy the diagnosis before the hours

One or two sessions against marked papers at both tiers, producing a written answer on tier fit and insecure topics. This is the cheapest useful purchase in the market and it determines which of the four jobs you are buying. Families who skip it frequently spend two terms on the wrong problem.

  3. 03

Pick the shape that matches the diagnosis

A topic block, a fluency pattern, an exam-technique block and full-course weekly support cost very different totals and do very different work. The shape should follow the diagnosis rather than default to a weekly slot, because a weekly slot aimed at a nameable gap is the most common overspend on this page.

  4. 04

Agree the hours and the terms in writing

Ask for the number of sessions, the effective hourly rate, what a cancellation costs and what happens to unused sessions, all in writing before the block starts. Any provider unwilling to answer those four in writing is not worth a term's commitment, whatever the headline rate looks like.

  5. 05

Fix a slot the student can do arithmetic in

Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time. After the bridge crossing and the school run, the realistic windows for Hudayriyat Island families are straight after the commute or well after dinner, and for mathematics the later option is usually better. Accuracy, not comprehension, is what tiredness destroys.

  6. 06

Re-test at the end of the block

A block finishes with unseen questions on the same topic, marked. That is the only honest way to know whether the hours worked. If the re-test shows no movement, the next step is a different tutor or a conversation with the school about tier, not another block of the same thing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by the job, not by the hour

This page publishes the hour counts the common maths jobs take and applies the market band to them, so a family can see a total rather than a rate. Three of six ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote dollars. A rate without an hour count is not information.

The tier question raised first

Core against Extended, Foundation against Higher, is the most consequential variable in IGCSE mathematics and it has a deadline attached. Tutors here raise it in the first session and produce marked evidence for the school conversation, rather than quietly working inside whatever tier they were handed.

Specification, not just board

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ in tier names, calculator rules, formula provision and question style. Tutors are matched on the code and the tier, because a tutor working from the other board's past papers wastes the hour regardless of how well they teach.

No travel premium on the invoice

In-home arrangements in this market are quoted AED 180 to 500 an hour with the drive inside the rate; a qualified online tutor sits roughly AED 150 to 300. For past-paper work with a shared screen, the premium buys a crossing of the Hudayriyat bridge and nothing that shows up in the marking.

Nothing claimed that cannot be evidenced

IB Gram holds no ADEK permit, no KHDA permit and no board accreditation, and says so. No self-asserted rating, no outcome percentage without data, no examiner claim without the board, component and years. Competitors in this cluster publish contradictory ratings inside a single page.

Availability stated before you book

If nobody with the right specification and tier experience is free in your slot, we say so and give a realistic date. If the specialist who fits is based outside the UAE, that is disclosed before booking, with sessions on Gulf Standard Time. No competitor page found in this market discloses a coverage limit.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Hudayriyat Island: your questions answered

What does an IGCSE maths tutor cost for a Hudayriyat Island family, in total rather than per hour?+

It depends on the job. A tier diagnosis is one or two hours. A single topic block is four to eight. An algebraic manipulation rebuild is ten to sixteen, and an exam-technique block of full timed papers is eight to twelve. Applying the published market band of AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified online tutor, a topic block lands roughly between AED 600 and 2,400 and a diagnosis between AED 150 and 600. In-home rates in this market run AED 180 to 500 with travel inside them. Those are other providers' October 2026 figures; IB Gram quotes after a free trial.

Is my child on the right tier for Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1?+

A marked past paper at each tier answers it in about two hours, and the answer has to reach the school before final entries are submitted. Cambridge splits into Core and Extended, Pearson into Foundation and Higher, and the lower tier in each pair caps the grade available regardless of performance. The consequence runs forward: A Level mathematics assumes the higher tier content as a floor. Once the entries are in, the tier is fixed for that series, so this conversation belongs in Year 10 or very early Year 11 rather than after the mocks.

Why does working from the wrong board's past papers matter so much?+

Because the two specifications differ in the things that decide marks. Cambridge 0580 includes a paper without a calculator; Pearson 4MA1 permits the calculator throughout. The tier names differ, the formula provision differs, and the style of the longer questions differs. A student drilled on Cambridge non-calculator arithmetic while sitting a Pearson paper has spent hours on an exposure that does not exist for them, and vice versa. Get the specification code from the school's exams officer and give it to the tutor before the first session rather than after it.

My child's arithmetic is weak. Is a long weekly session the answer?+

No, and this is the most common misallocation in IGCSE maths tutoring. Arithmetic, surds and index laws are fluency rather than comprehension, and fluency responds to frequency. Fifteen or twenty minutes of practice most days, set and checked, outperforms a two-hour weekly lesson and costs less in total. Part of the tutor's job on a fluency problem is designing and policing that pattern rather than filling an hour with it. Families who buy long sessions for this problem spend more, see less movement, and often conclude tutoring does not work for their child.

Does IB Gram send a maths tutor to a house on Hudayriyat Island?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and a recording. For maths specifically this costs almost nothing in teaching quality: past-paper work with a visible worked solution on a shared screen is the same lesson it would be at a kitchen table. What it saves is the drive across the bridge, which in this market is quoted inside rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour.

How many marks am I losing by not writing out working?+

More than most students believe. A substantial share of recoverable marks in both specifications sit in method rather than in the final answer, so a candidate who does a step mentally and writes only the result loses marks on questions they genuinely understood. The loss is invisible to them, which is why it persists. Correcting the habit is usually the fastest grade movement available and takes very few sessions: the tutor marks the student's own script against the published criteria and shows exactly where a written intermediate step would have earned a mark that was forfeited.

What are the hardest topics for Extended and Higher tier candidates?+

Trigonometry beyond right-angled triangles is the first, because the problem requires choosing which rule applies before any calculation begins, and students fine with SOHCAHTOA have never had to make that decision. Circle theorems are second, because they must be learned as named results with named conditions rather than recognised by shape. Histograms with unequal class widths are a reliable mark-loser that looks easy. And the multi-step questions at the back of the paper defeat tier-appropriate students who abandon rather than err, which is technique rather than content.

Can we sit an IGCSE maths exam in February or March in Abu Dhabi?+

No. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to candidates in India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. This matters practically because general online calendars sometimes show the India dates, and a family revising towards a window their child cannot enter has lost real time. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct zone timetable, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version.

Is a November resit worth the money after disappointing June grades?+

It depends on the application timeline rather than on the maths. For Pearson, November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, and June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026. A November entry therefore produces results in the middle of the university application cycle rather than before it, which changes what the improved grade can actually be used for. Work that out with the school and the universities concerned immediately after results rather than in the new year, and treat the short intensive block plus entry fees as the cost of the decision.

Does a maths tutor in Abu Dhabi need a government permit?+

Yes. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation issues a private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. The MoHRE service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone offering private lessons without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since it costs nothing there is no reasonable explanation for its absence.

Can my child's maths teacher at their Abu Dhabi school tutor them privately?+

Not while the child is enrolled at that teacher's school. ADEK's professional-ethics expectations for private and charter school staff restrict teachers from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Teachers tutoring outside school hours also need the permit. The practical effect in Abu Dhabi is that some of the nearest and most obviously suitable maths teachers are the ones a family cannot lawfully hire, which is one reason the local search for a tutor feels unproductive.

Is Additional Mathematics worth paying specialist rates for?+

If A Level mathematics is the destination, yes. Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics introduces differentiation, integration, binomial expansion and trigonometric identities before A Level, which makes it the best available preparation and also the course where confident Extended tier students most often stall, because the abstraction level rises rather than the difficulty. This is one of the few places on this page where a budget-rate tutor is poor value at any price: the hour needs somebody who has taught and marked the paper. Not every Abu Dhabi school offers it, so check with yours.

What should I ask before committing to a monthly maths package?+

Four things, in writing. What is the effective hourly rate once everything is inside the price? What does a cancellation cost, and how much notice avoids the charge? What happens to sessions the family does not use? And how many sessions does the provider think this specific job needs? Packages circulating in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home visits, and both look tidy while concealing the same three answers. A provider who will not put them in writing is not worth a term.

What if no tutor with our tier and specification is free when we need one?+

We say so and give a realistic date rather than putting somebody without that experience into the slot. Demand for tier-experienced maths tutors across Abu Dhabi concentrates in the months before the June series, which is exactly when most families start looking, so the tightest combination is a fixed weekday evening in the spring term. Where no UAE-based tutor with the right specification is available, the alternative is a tutor based elsewhere teaching the same specification over the same platform on Gulf Standard Time, disclosed before anything is booked.

Can a tutor guarantee my child a grade 7 or above in IGCSE maths?+

No, and a provider who offers one is misrepresenting how the assessment works. Grades depend on the paper, the tier, the student's performance on the day and the boundaries the board sets afterwards, none of which a tutor controls. What can honestly be offered is a diagnosis naming the problem, a plan with a stated number of hours, marked work that shows whether the plan is moving the marks, and a willingness to change the tutor or say the issue lies with tier placement instead. Treat any guarantee in this market as a reason for scepticism rather than reassurance.

Name the job, then look at the rate

The useful question about an IGCSE maths tutor in Hudayriyat Island is not what an hour costs but how many hours the actual problem takes. Send the school, the specification code, the tier and the last assessment mark, and take the free trial lesson with one request: ask the tutor to name which job this is and roughly how many hours it needs. If the honest answer is a tier conversation with the school rather than a block of sessions, you will have saved considerably more than the lesson was worth. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
