Cbse to IB Transition in Abu Dhabi

The CBSE to IB transition in Abu Dhabi has a price tag beyond the school fee, and almost nobody sets it out. This page does: which gaps between a CBSE classroom and a Diploma classroom genuinely need paid support, which close on their own in a term, what a bridging block costs in AED at published market rates, and where a family can safely spend nothing. IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

What the board change actually costs a family

Families moving a child from CBSE to the Diploma in Abu Dhabi usually budget for the school fee and nothing else, then discover a second bill arriving in instalments through the first Diploma year. It is worth naming that second bill in advance, because most of it is avoidable and the part that is not is small. Published UAE market rates as read in October 2026 put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150-300 an hour and IB specialists at roughly AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate at 200-450 for specialist exam-year work. Budget online runs roughly AED 33-65, with Tutopiya from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65.

Against those bands, the useful question is how many hours this particular transition genuinely requires. The answer is fewer than the market implies, and the reason is that a CBSE student arrives with real strengths. Mathematical fluency is usually ahead of the Diploma's starting assumptions. Content coverage in the sciences is typically broad and solid. Working habits and tolerance for volume are often better than those of classmates from inquiry-led systems. None of that needs paying for, and a provider who quotes a two-year programme for this transition has not read the student's profile.

What does need support is narrower and more specific. Writing that argues rather than reproduces, because CBSE board answers reward accurate and complete reproduction and Diploma answers allocate marks to analysis, evaluation and justification. Working to lettered criteria, because the Diploma's internally assessed components are marked against published criteria and CBSE's internal assessment works differently. And investigation design, where the student has to choose a method and defend it rather than follow a prescribed practical.

Those three gaps are closeable in six to ten sessions, which is nine to fifteen hours, or roughly AED 1,350-4,500 at the qualified band. The alternative, which is what happens when the gaps are not named, is a weekly session carried through both Diploma years, roughly seventy hours, which at the same bands is a five-figure AED commitment. That ratio is the whole financial argument for doing this deliberately rather than reactively, and no competitor page researched for this project publishes either figure.

One cost that genuinely varies and is worth asking about directly: English. Where a student has been taught in English throughout a CBSE school in the UAE, the language gap at Diploma level is usually about register and extended argument rather than about English itself, and it closes with the writing work above. Where the student has been in a Hindi-medium or regional-medium stream, the gap is larger, the support is longer, and the honest estimate is twenty to thirty hours rather than ten. We will say which situation applies after looking at marked written work rather than after a conversation.

IB Gram delivers this support as one-to-one online tuition on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run in India only. For this transition that is a plain practical advantage, because the work is subject-specific and Abu Dhabi, with fewer IB World Schools than Dubai, has a thin resident pool in exactly the Higher Level subjects a transferring student is about to start.

At a glance

  • Mathematical fluency and content breadth usually transfer intact; do not pay to rebuild them
  • The three real gaps: argued writing, criterion work, investigation design
  • Six to ten sessions closes them, roughly AED 1,350-4,500 at the qualified band
  • Left unnamed, the same gaps become about seventy hours across two years
  • A regional-medium background changes the estimate to twenty to thirty hours
  • Ask your school what induction it already runs before buying anything
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

This move spans two systems with different assessment logic. Here is what the student is leaving, what they are joining, and where the entry point sits.

CBSEUp to Class 10 or Class 12

CBSE, the starting point

A national Indian curriculum with board examinations at Class 10 and Class 12, a prescribed syllabus and prescribed practicals, and internal assessment components set within a defined framework. Assessment rewards accurate, complete and well-organised reproduction of taught material, and the mathematics and science syllabuses are content-dense relative to most international equivalents at the same age.

Indian-curriculum schools are a major part of UAE private education: Indian curriculum accounted for 26 per cent of Dubai private-school students in 2024-25 against 7 per cent on the IB, across 227 schools teaching 17 different curricula. Abu Dhabi has a comparable concentration, which is why this transition is common here and why the student will usually know others who have made it.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme, the destination

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject grade combines externally marked papers with an internally assessed component marked against named criteria. Higher Level courses carry roughly 240 recommended teaching hours against roughly 150 at Standard Level, and the total runs to 45 including up to three bonus points from the TOK and Extended Essay matrix.

In Abu Dhabi the Diploma runs in a limited number of schools, and the combination available is constrained by each school's timetable blocks. A transferring family should ask which Higher Level courses have actually run for two consecutive years before planning a combination, because that is a different question from what the option booklet lists.

ENTRY10Ages 15-16

Transferring after Class 10

The cleaner entry point. The student completes the CBSE Class 10 board examinations and enters DP1 with a complete lower-secondary qualification behind them and no interrupted course. Subject choice is open, the Mathematics route decision can be made on Class 10 evidence, and no content is abandoned mid-stream.

Most Abu Dhabi schools treat this as the standard entry and most transferring families should aim for it. Where school places are the constraint rather than the academic fit, ask the Diploma school directly what they require from a Class 10 transfer, because requirements differ between schools in this emirate.

ENTRY11Ages 16-17

Transferring during or after Class 11

Harder and more expensive. A student partway through CBSE Class 11 who moves into DP1 repeats a year in effect, while one who has completed Class 11 and enters DP1 brings content that overlaps unevenly with the Diploma syllabus, so some of the year is revision and some is entirely new. The internally assessed components and TOK start from zero either way.

This happens in Abu Dhabi most often for relocation reasons rather than academic ones, and it is workable. Budget for more support than a Class 10 transfer, expect a conversation about repeating a year, and get the school's position in writing before the move rather than after.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What follows is where a CBSE-trained student typically stands in each Diploma subject, which decides whether support is needed at all. Several of these entries say spend nothing, and they mean it.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Usually the strongest transfer in the whole combination. CBSE mathematics is algebraically demanding, so the content and the fluency are typically ahead of the Diploma's assumptions. The gap is the extended investigative paper at Higher Level, where the student must follow an unfamiliar argument rather than execute a known technique.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Often the wrong choice for a CBSE student, because their strength is exactly the algebraic work the other route rewards. Where it is chosen for timetable reasons, the gap is written interpretation of models, which is a writing problem rather than a mathematics one.

Physics

HL and SL

Content coverage transfers well and often exceeds the starting point. The gap is in extended-response answers, where Diploma marking pays for each reasoning step and CBSE answers were scored on completeness and correctness of the stated result.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Strong calculation and nomenclature background. The real gap is the internally assessed investigation, where the student designs the experiment and defends the method, against a CBSE background of prescribed practicals with known procedures.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume is not the problem; a CBSE student is used to volume. Command-term precision is, because outline, explain, distinguish and evaluate pay differently in Diploma marking and the trained default is a complete and accurate description.

Economics

HL and SL

Often new at Diploma level and a good fit, because the quantitative paper at Higher Level suits a CBSE mathematical background. The gap is diagram convention and evaluation structure, both of which have to be built rather than transferred.

Business Management

HL and SL

The demand is application to stimulus material rather than accurate definition, which is the clearest instance of the general shift. Definitions alone cap the answer in the knowledge bands no matter how precise they are.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The subject where the most support is usually needed. Diploma assessment asks how a text works and requires a repeatable method for unseen texts, against a background of studying set texts for content. Register and extended argument are the specific targets.

English B

HL and SL

Where a student has come through a regional-medium stream, this is the placement to examine honestly with the school's language department rather than defaulting to English A. Placement too high produces two years of struggle in a subject that should be a steady grade.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Programming background often transfers strongly. The specific gap is the IB's pseudocode conventions, which are marked as conventions, so a fluent programmer can lose marks writing correct logic in the wrong notation.

Hindi A and Hindi B

HL, SL and ab initio where offered

A genuine opportunity rather than a gap, and often overlooked at transfer. Where the school offers it, a strong first-language Hindi option can be a reliable grade and, in some configurations, supports the bilingual Diploma. Ask what the school actually runs.

Psychology

HL and SL

New at Diploma level for most CBSE students. Study recall comes easily and methodological evaluation does not, which holds answers in the middle bands. The gap is a skill rather than a body of content and responds to a handful of marked sessions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each shape below is priced by hours and has a stated end. The point of listing them separately is that most families need the first two and not the third.

Writing-shift block

Four to six sessions moving the student from reproduction to argument: what an evaluate or discuss question pays for, how an analysis paragraph is built, and how marks are allocated to reasoning rather than to a correct conclusion. The highest-return work in this transition.

  • Marked practice in every session, not discussion of technique
  • Uses the command terms of the student's actual subjects
  • Transfers across sciences and humanities alike
  • Four to six sessions, roughly AED 900-2,700 at the qualified band

Criterion and investigation block

Three to five sessions on writing to lettered criteria and on designing an investigation the student must justify rather than follow. Aimed at the internally assessed components, which is where a CBSE background is least prepared and the marks are most recoverable.

  • Uses the real criteria for the student's chosen subjects
  • Covers method choice and defence, not practical execution
  • Self-marking a draft against criteria before submission
  • Three to five sessions, roughly AED 675-2,250 at the qualified band

English placement and support

One session to read marked written work and advise honestly between English A and English B with the school's language department, then a longer block only where the evidence calls for it. For a regional-medium background this is the part of the plan that genuinely needs twenty hours or more.

  • Starts with marked written work, not a conversation
  • Placement advice given to the family, not to the school
  • Length set after the evidence, not before
  • Honest about where twenty to thirty hours is needed

Ongoing support where the evidence requires it

A weekly session into the first Diploma term, chosen only after week-four marked work shows a real gap, with an explicit review at week eight. Not the default for this transition, because most of what a CBSE student needs is front-loaded and finite.

  • Decided on the school's own marked work, not in advance
  • Reviewed at week eight with an option to stop
  • Roughly seventy hours over two years if it runs to the end
  • That total is stated up front rather than discovered in instalments

01

Which gaps you pay for, and which you do not

The reason this transition gets over-sold is that the gaps and the strengths are discussed together, as though a board change were uniformly disorienting. It is not. A CBSE student arrives with specific, substantial strengths and three specific gaps, and separating them is the difference between a four-figure AED spend and a five-figure one.

The table below does that separation and adds a third column that almost no provider will offer: gaps the school closes itself, inside fees you are already paying. Diploma schools in this emirate run induction, teach the TOK course from scratch for everyone, and supervise the Extended Essay as a matter of course. A paid block that covers those is charging you for something you own, and a parent cannot know that unless somebody writes it down.

The self-closing column matters too. Unfamiliarity with a classroom style, discomfort with group discussion, and the general disorientation of a new school are real and they resolve within a term for almost every student, with no intervention and no spend. Paying for study-skills sessions to address them converts a temporary condition into a line item. Where it does not resolve by the mid-point of the first term, that is worth looking at, and it is usually a wellbeing question rather than an academic one.

Use the table to build the quote rather than accepting one. A family whose child is strong in mathematics and the sciences, taught in English throughout, transferring after Class 10 into a school with a proper induction programme, may need four sessions in total. A family transferring mid-Class 11 from a regional-medium stream into three new Higher Level subjects may need forty. Both are legitimate; what is not legitimate is the same quote for both.

02

The assessment logic that changes, and what it costs to learn

  • CBSE rewards accurate completeness; the Diploma pays for reasoning
  • Command-term practice, marked, not definitions: about three sessions
  • Criterion writing transfers across all six subjects: four to six sessions
  • Investigation design is a new activity, not a harder version of an old one
  • Together, roughly nine to fifteen hours, closing before or early in DP1

CBSE board answers are rewarded for being accurate, complete and well organised. That is a real skill, and students who have it write clearly and cover ground. Diploma marking allocates marks differently: the higher-tariff questions pay for analysis, evaluation and justification, and a correct, complete statement of the right answer can score in the lower bands with nothing factually wrong in it. This single difference accounts for most of the first-term dip that transferring families mistake for a slide.

The practical form it takes is command terms. Diploma questions are built on defined command terms, and the marks follow what the term asks for. A student who answers an evaluate question with an excellent explanation has written a good answer to a different question. The work of fixing this is not conceptual, it is behavioural: list the command terms used in the student's actual subjects, write what the examiner pays for in each, then practise them separately with marked work until the shape is automatic. Three sessions typically covers a whole subject combination.

The second form is the internally assessed component. Every Diploma subject has one, marked against named criteria with published allocations. CBSE's internal assessment is structured differently, so the act of writing a piece of work deliberately designed to satisfy a lettered criterion is new. Taught against the real criteria for the student's real subjects, it transfers across all six, which makes a four to six session block the cheapest broad intervention available at this stage.

The third is investigation design in the sciences. A prescribed practical with a known procedure develops careful execution; the Diploma's internally assessed investigation asks the student to choose a method, justify the choice, handle uncertainty and evaluate the design. That is a different activity and the marks reward exactly the part that was previously decided for them. Three to five sessions, built around the actual criteria, closes most of it before the first draft is written.

03

Transferring after Class 10 or during Class 11

The entry point changes the cost more than anything else in this transition, and families often have less choice about it than they would like, because relocation and school places drive the timing. Still, the difference should be understood before the move rather than after.

After Class 10 is the clean route. The student completes the board examinations, holds a finished lower-secondary qualification, and enters DP1 with nothing abandoned mid-course. Subject choice is open, the Mathematics route can be read off Class 10 evidence, and the support needed is the front-loaded nine to fifteen hours described above. This is what most Abu Dhabi Diploma schools treat as the standard transfer.

During or after Class 11 is harder in two different ways. A student partway through Class 11 who enters DP1 is effectively repeating a year, which is an emotional cost as much as an academic one and should be discussed openly with the student rather than presented as a formality. A student who has completed Class 11 and enters DP1 brings content that overlaps the Diploma syllabus unevenly: parts of the year are revision, parts are new, and the mismatch is subject-specific rather than general. Either way the internally assessed components, TOK and the Extended Essay start from zero.

Whatever the timing, get three things in writing from the destination school before the move: what they require from a CBSE transfer, whether a year is being repeated, and which Higher Level courses have actually run for two consecutive years. In this emirate the answers differ between schools. A family that gets them in writing can plan a budget; a family that does not will be told them in September, when the options have narrowed and the spending decisions get made under time pressure.

English, and the one honest conversation to have early

  • Ask directly which language the student has actually been taught in
  • English-medium CBSE: the gap is register and argument, roughly six to nine hours
  • Regional-medium background: the honest estimate is twenty to thirty hours
  • Bring a piece of extended written work, not an impression of fluency
  • The placement decision sits with the school's language department

English is where this transition becomes genuinely variable in cost, and it depends on something families are sometimes reluctant to state plainly: the language of instruction the student has actually been working in. Where a CBSE school in the UAE has taught in English throughout, the Diploma gap is about register and extended argument, and it closes with the writing work described above. Where the student came through a Hindi-medium or regional-medium stream, the gap is larger and the honest estimate is twenty to thirty hours rather than ten.

The decision that follows is placement, between English A as a language and literature subject and English B as language acquisition. Getting this wrong is expensive in both directions. Placed too high, the student spends two years struggling in a subject that should have been a reliable grade and the whole combination suffers because English work consumes the available hours. Placed too low, the student is under-stretched and, in some configurations, the bilingual Diploma possibility is affected.

The method is simple and most families skip it. Ask for a piece of the student's own extended written work from the last CBSE year, have it read by someone who teaches Diploma English, and ask for a written view. That costs one session. A conversation about whether the child speaks English well is not evidence, because conversational fluency and the ability to sustain a written analytical argument are different capacities, and the Diploma assesses the second.

The placement decision itself belongs to the school's language department, not to a tutor and not to a parent. What a tutor can do is supply the written read so that the conversation with the school is informed. We will give that read honestly, including when it says the student should be in English B, because the alternative is being paid for twenty hours a term to prop up a placement that should not have been made.

05

Mathematics: where a CBSE background is an advantage

  • CBSE algebraic fluency usually transfers ahead of the Diploma's assumptions
  • Analysis and Approaches generally plays to that strength
  • On the applications route the difficulty becomes written justification
  • The Higher Level gap is unfamiliar extended problems: one or two marked sessions
  • Verify course prerequisites at each institution's own page, with the date recorded

It is worth stating the positive case plainly, because this market has no incentive to. CBSE mathematics at Class 10 is algebraically demanding, and a student who has done it properly usually arrives at the Diploma ahead of the course's starting assumptions on technique and fluency. For families budgeting this transition, that means the single largest potential tutoring cost in the Diploma may not apply at all.

Which route to take follows from that. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic, proof-oriented route with a no-calculator paper, and it plays directly to the CBSE strength. Applications and Interpretation is modelling-led with technology permitted throughout and a heavier interpretive and statistical emphasis, where the marks go on written justification rather than algebra. A CBSE student placed on the applications route for timetable reasons often finds the mathematics easy and the writing demanding, which is the opposite problem from the one anyone planned for.

The remaining gap at Higher Level is specific and small. The third paper is an extended investigative piece that asks the student to follow an unfamiliar multi-step argument with no worked example in view. CBSE training produces excellent execution of known techniques and less practice at unfamiliar structure, so one or two sessions on genuine extended problems, marked, is usually the whole of the work. That is a one-session check rather than a two-year commitment.

Check prerequisites separately and at source. Published requirements differ between courses at the same institution, change between admissions cycles, and sometimes distinguish conditions from preferences. Read each institution's own page for the specific course, record the date, and recheck before applying. Nothing here is a prediction about an admission outcome, and no part of what we offer guarantees one.

06

Arabic, Islamic Education and what the regulator requires either way

A board change does not change the subjects the regulator requires. The federal position is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations. In Dubai, KHDA's published mandatory-subject requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. ADEK applies the equivalent requirement in Abu Dhabi.

So a transferring student carries these forward, and the practical point for a budget is that they occupy timetable hours the Diploma does not count. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and advises that no mandatory-subject lesson runs shorter than twenty-five minutes. A workload plan built only around six Diploma subjects has left real hours out.

The organisation rules are specific. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, with the school's licensed-curriculum language used for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and moral, social and cultural studies. Schools must ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval.

One constraint worth knowing before buying support in these subjects: for the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. Support therefore works from the school's own materials and the official programme rather than from an alternative course. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, MoE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation, licensing or partnership of any kind, and claims none.

07

MoE equivalency after a board change

Families making this move often ask whether changing board affects Ministry of Education equivalency, which matters for UAE university entry and for document attestation. The honest answer has a known part and an unknown part, and publishing the unknown part as though it were known is a liability on a page a parent acts on.

The known part is the published requirements for the British and American tracks. For the British track, students must show five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education not counted among those five, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no lower than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. One currently ranking competitor publishes six as the subject count; the sourced figure is five. For the American track, English proficiency is met by an IELTS academic score of 5, a TOEFL iBT score of 61, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math before applying.

The unknown part is the IB. The source documenting those tracks states no IB points threshold, so no IB equivalency figure appears anywhere on this page. Check moe.gov.ae or the emirate's attestation authority directly for anything concerning the Diploma, and treat any site quoting you an IB equivalency score without a government source as unreliable. The same caution applies to anything stated about CBSE equivalency, which should be read from the authority rather than from a tutoring page.

Two positions we hold regardless. Equivalency and attestation are processes completed with the authority; IB Gram does not perform them, is not an intermediary in them and guarantees no outcome. And nothing about equivalency, university admission or school progression requires tutoring, so any page implying that it does is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process.

Scheduling the block around an Abu Dhabi commute

  • Indian-curriculum and Diploma provision sit in different parts of the emirate
  • A long mainland commute narrows the usable window to roughly 17:30-21:00
  • Front-load the block into the summer rather than spreading it thinly
  • Online sessions continue while the family travels
  • Ramadan shifts sessions post-Iftar; agree it before the month starts

A transferring family is often also changing their commute, and that changes what is affordable in hours rather than in dirhams. Indian-curriculum schools and Diploma schools are not in the same parts of this emirate: the concentration of Indian-curriculum provision sits in the mainland communities and in Mussafah and Shabiya, while most Diploma provision sits on the island. A transfer can add forty minutes each way to the day.

Count what that leaves. Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time, and after a long mainland commute the usable weekday window narrows to roughly 17:30 to 21:00, which has to hold three Higher Level workloads, the internally assessed work, CAS and any tutoring. For a family in Al Shamkha or Shabiya the realistic answer is often two fixed sessions a week at most, and a front-loaded block in the summer is worth far more than an open-ended weekly arrangement that will be missed.

Online delivery is what makes the arithmetic work, and the reason is time rather than preference. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, and home tutoring is a service we provide only in India. A session that starts on the minute at 18:00 is worth materially more to a Mussafah family than one that starts whenever a tutor finishes crossing the city, and the specialist pool for a Higher Level subject is global rather than local.

Two calendar realities to build in. Abu Dhabi families travel in the school holidays, and for a transferring student those weeks sit inside the window when the bridging work should happen; online sessions continue from wherever the family is, allowing for the time difference. And where Ramadan falls inside the first Diploma term, school days shorten and the productive study window moves to after Iftar, which is workable if agreed in advance and lossy if improvised.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Where a family lives shapes which schools are realistic on both sides of the move, and the Indian-curriculum and Diploma schools are not in the same places. These are the catchments.

Abu Dhabi Island

Holds both long-established Indian-curriculum schools and most of the emirate's Diploma provision, so a transfer here often involves a short move rather than a change of commute pattern.

Khalifa City

Villa communities with a substantial Indian resident population and a 20-40 minute run to island Diploma schools, so a transfer frequently lengthens the journey and compresses the evening study window.

Al Reef and Al Shamkha

The strongest Indian-curriculum concentration in the mainland communities. Transfers from here usually mean the longest commutes in the emirate, which has to be in the plan before the first tutoring session is booked.

Mussafah and Shabiya

Dense Indian-curriculum provision and long journeys to Diploma schools. For families here the online option is frequently the only route to a Higher Level specialist, because a weekday in-person session cannot fit after the commute.

Al Raha and Al Raha Beach

Short runs to island Diploma schools, so the transfer costs little in travel time and the recovered evening hours make a bridging block easier to schedule than almost anywhere else.

Yas Island

Newer Diploma provision with shorter track records in some Higher Level courses, so a transferring family should ask how many years a course has run before building a combination around it.

Al Mushrif and Al Bateen

Established central districts with a long-settled professional Indian population, where the transfer is usually driven by university ambitions and therefore by prerequisite checking rather than general fit.

Al Ain

Indian-curriculum schools with very limited local Diploma provision, so the transfer often means a change of city or a long commute, and local Higher Level specialists are almost absent.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Island and Saadiyat

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the destination school's position in writing

What they require from a CBSE transfer, whether a year is being repeated, which Higher Level courses have run for two consecutive years, and what induction or bridging the school already provides. Those four answers set the budget before any tutor is involved.

  2. 02

Send Class 10 component evidence and one piece of writing

Subject-level marks with as much component detail as the school holds, plus a piece of the student's own extended written work. The first drives the Mathematics route read; the second drives the English placement read. Both take one session to interpret.

  3. 03

Separate the gaps from the strengths

We come back with three lists: what needs paid hours, what the school covers inside fees you already pay, and what will close on its own within a term. The quote is built from the first list only, with the hours named.

  4. 04

    Free trial lesson

One session with the proposed tutor on the first named gap, at no charge, with marked work in it rather than a discussion of technique. If the match is wrong we offer a different tutor rather than asking you to persist with it.

  5. 05

Run the block before term where possible

Four to ten sessions, front-loaded into the summer, each producing marked work, with a stated finish. Front-loading matters most for families facing a long new commute, because the weekday hours will not be there once term starts.

  6. 06

Review at week four, then decide

A short look at the school's own marked work four weeks into DP1. That evidence, not a prediction, decides whether any ongoing support is needed and whether a level decision should be revisited while the school's change window is open.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The strengths are named, not just the gaps

A CBSE student usually arrives ahead on mathematical fluency and content breadth. Paying to rebuild those is the commonest waste in this transition, and we say so in writing rather than quoting a two-year programme for everybody.

Three columns, not one

We separate what needs paid hours, what the school covers inside fees you already pay, and what closes itself within a term. A quote built from all three is a quote for things you already own or do not need.

The English conversation held honestly

The cost of this transition depends on the language of instruction the student has actually worked in. We ask directly, read a real piece of extended writing, and give the placement read even when it says English B rather than English A.

Entry point priced separately

A clean transfer after Class 10 boards and a mid-Class 11 move are different jobs with different hour counts. We price them differently and tell you which questions to put to the destination school in writing before you move.

Equivalency described, never performed

The British and American track requirements are published and we state them with their source. The IB figure is not published in that source, so none appears here. We do not perform attestation, do not act as an intermediary, and guarantee no outcome.

No claims we cannot evidence

No guaranteed grade or points total, no self-assigned rating, no statistic without its sample size, date and method, and no reproduction of CBSE, IB, Cambridge or Pearson materials. Official sources are cited and linked instead.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does moving from CBSE to the IB actually cost beyond school fees in Abu Dhabi?+

Less than the market implies, if the gaps are named. The three real ones, argued writing, criterion work and investigation design, close in roughly nine to fifteen hours, which at the published UAE qualified-tutor band of AED 150-300 an hour is about AED 1,350-4,500. Those bands come from Unitors, TutorChase and Bestimate as read in October 2026 and are market figures, not an IB Gram price list. Left unnamed, the same gaps typically become a weekly session across both Diploma years, roughly seventy hours and a five-figure AED commitment.

Which CBSE strengths carry over into the Diploma without extra help?+

Mathematical fluency and technique, usually ahead of the Diploma's starting assumptions, because CBSE Class 10 mathematics is algebraically demanding. Content breadth in the sciences, which is typically solid. And tolerance for volume and consistent working habits, which are often better than those of classmates from inquiry-led systems. None of those should appear as a line item in a quote. A provider recommending a full two-year programme for a strong CBSE transfer has not looked at the student's actual profile.

Why do CBSE students lose marks in their first Diploma term when nothing is factually wrong?+

Because the assessment logic changed. CBSE board answers are rewarded for being accurate, complete and well organised, and that is what two years of training produced. Diploma marking allocates the higher-tariff marks to analysis, evaluation and justification, so a correct and complete statement of the right answer can land in the lower bands with no error anywhere in it. Once somebody names the cause and the student practises the command terms with marked feedback, it corrects quickly. The dip is usually mechanical rather than a sign of struggle.

Is it better to transfer after CBSE Class 10 or during Class 11?+

After Class 10, clearly, where the choice exists. The student completes the board examinations, holds a finished lower-secondary qualification, abandons no course mid-stream, and needs the front-loaded nine to fifteen hours of support. A move during Class 11 effectively repeats a year, which carries an emotional cost worth discussing openly with the student. A move after completing Class 11 brings content that overlaps the Diploma syllabus unevenly, so parts of DP1 are revision and parts are new, which is harder to plan around than either extreme.

Will my child need English support after a CBSE education?+

It depends entirely on the language of instruction they have actually been working in, which is worth stating plainly rather than skirting. Taught in English throughout a UAE CBSE school, the Diploma gap is register and extended argument, roughly six to nine hours. Coming through a Hindi-medium or regional-medium stream, the honest estimate is twenty to thirty hours. The way to find out is to have a piece of the student's own extended written work read by someone who teaches Diploma English, which takes one session and is better evidence than any conversation.

Should my child take English A or English B in the Diploma?+

The school's language department makes that decision, and what a tutor can usefully supply is a written read on a real piece of the student's extended writing to inform it. Getting it wrong is expensive both ways: placed too high, the student spends two years struggling in a subject that should have been a reliable grade, and the English work consumes the hours the rest of the combination needs. Placed too low, they are under-stretched and in some configurations the bilingual Diploma possibility is affected. Conversational fluency is not the measure.

Which maths route suits a student coming from CBSE?+

Analysis and Approaches generally, because it is the algebraic, proof-oriented route with a no-calculator paper and it plays to the strength a CBSE background builds. Applications and Interpretation is modelling-led with technology permitted throughout, and its marks sit on written justification of models, so a CBSE student placed there for timetable reasons often finds the mathematics straightforward and the writing demanding. The remaining Higher Level gap on the analysis route is the extended investigative paper, which usually needs one or two marked sessions on unfamiliar problems.

What is the internal assessment and why is it new for a CBSE student?+

Every Diploma subject has an internally assessed component marked against named criteria with published mark allocations. CBSE's internal assessment is structured differently, so the specific act of writing a piece of work deliberately designed so each lettered criterion is visibly satisfied is a new activity rather than a harder version of a familiar one. Taught against the real criteria for your child's actual subjects, a four to six session block transfers across all six, which makes it the cheapest broad-spectrum intervention available at this stage of the move.

How different is a Diploma science investigation from a CBSE practical?+

Different in kind. A prescribed practical with a known procedure develops careful execution and accurate recording. The Diploma's internally assessed investigation asks the student to choose a method and justify the choice, handle uncertainty, and evaluate the design, and the marks reward exactly the part that was previously decided for them. Three to five sessions built around the actual criteria closes most of it before a first draft exists. A tutor teaches the criteria and reviews the student's own draft; it never designs the investigation or writes any part of the report.

Does the Diploma school run its own induction for transferring students?+

Many Abu Dhabi schools do, and it is inside fees you are already paying, so ask the coordinator what it covers before buying anything. Theory of Knowledge in particular is taught from zero to the whole cohort, so no transferring student is behind on it and no paid block should be sold for it. The Extended Essay is supervised internally with school deadlines. Where the school's programme is a social induction rather than an academic one, which is also common, the writing and criterion gaps remain open and a short paid block earns its money.

How does a board change affect UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

The published requirements cover the British and American tracks, and the source used here states no IB points threshold, so no IB figure appears on this page. For the British track: five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. For anything concerning the Diploma or CBSE, check moe.gov.ae or the emirate attestation authority directly. IB Gram does not perform attestation and guarantees no outcome in it.

Can my child continue Hindi as a Diploma subject after CBSE?+

Where the school offers it, yes, and it is frequently overlooked at transfer. A strong first-language Hindi option can be a reliable grade in a combination where other subjects are being stretched, and in some configurations it supports the bilingual Diploma. What varies is availability: Abu Dhabi Diploma schools differ in which languages they actually run, and whether a minority language option runs at all can depend on how many students choose it. Ask the school directly which language options have run for two consecutive years before planning around one.

My child is arriving partway through DP1 from a CBSE school. Is that manageable?+

It is the hardest version of this move and it is survivable with honest planning. The student brings partial content and no Diploma assessment experience, and several internally assessed deadlines may already have passed in the school's internal calendar, which is the first thing to establish rather than the last. Expect twenty-five to forty hours of support rather than ten, concentrated on the components with the nearest deadlines. Ask the coordinator in writing which submissions are still open, because teaching hours cannot recover a deadline that has closed.

Do the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons continue after a board change?+

Yes. The federal position is that private schools must cover Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and the emirate regulators apply that requirement. For a workload plan the practical point is that these occupy timetable hours the six Diploma subjects do not count, so a plan built only around the Diploma has left real hours out. Support in these subjects also works from the school's own materials, because for the mandatory UAE subjects additional or different content without prior Ministry permission is prohibited.

How do we fit tutoring around a longer commute after changing schools?+

By front-loading it. Indian-curriculum and Diploma provision sit in different parts of this emirate, so a transfer frequently adds forty minutes each way, and after a long mainland commute the usable weekday window narrows to roughly 17:30 to 21:00 for everything, including the Diploma's own workload. Two fixed sessions a week is the realistic ceiling for a family in Al Shamkha or Shabiya. A block completed in the summer is worth far more than an open-ended weekly arrangement that term-time traffic will erode.

Can you guarantee my child adapts successfully to the Diploma?+

No, and nobody honestly can. What a properly scoped block does is close named gaps and produce marked evidence that they closed, with the gap list agreed in writing before it starts. It does not guarantee a grade, a points total or an untroubled first term. We publish no outcome statistics at all, because a figure without its sample size, date and method is a marketing claim rather than evidence, and we publish no self-assigned rating. The week-four review on the school's own marked work is the honest measure of whether it worked.
