Edexcel IGCSE Maths A 4MA1 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

What an Edexcel IGCSE Maths A 4MA1 tutor in Abu Dhabi costs depends on four things nobody puts on a pricing page: the tier your child sits, how close the series is, whether the hour includes marking, and who is driving. Market rates across this emirate run from roughly AED 150 to AED 450 an hour. Sessions here are delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, so no travel is priced into the number.

  • Market AED rates published with the source and the date, not hidden
  • Foundation and Higher tier modelled before you commit to either
  • Past papers marked between sessions, with the marking inside the hour quoted
  • One free trial lesson per family, booked without card details

Why nobody will quote you a 4MA1 price

Search for maths tutoring in this emirate and you will find page after page that discusses value, quality and outcomes without printing a single number. In the competitor set researched for these queries, three of six published no price at all, one published a rate in its schema that contradicted the figure in its own body copy, and the two that did quote money quoted US dollars, which is not the currency a family in Al Reef pays anyone in. One agency page asks the price question in its own FAQ list and then declines to answer it.

So here is the structure of the market in AED, taken from providers' own published pages and from a dated rate survey, with every figure attributed. Budget online tutoring, usually a university student, sits at roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour. A qualified subject tutor online runs about AED 150 to 300. An in-home visit with travel inside the rate runs about AED 180 to 500. A declared IGCSE or A Level specialist runs about AED 200 to 450 or more, and a premium named tutor has been published at AED 650. Those are market rates and not an IB Gram tariff.

The reason a tutor cannot sensibly quote you before looking at the work is that 4MA1 hides two completely different jobs behind one syllabus code. A Year 10 candidate who needs the Foundation tier content secured over eighteen months needs a steady weekly hour and very little marking. A Year 11 Higher tier candidate ten weeks from the series needs fewer sessions and far more between-session labour: papers marked question by question, a topic ranking by marks dropped, and a revision order built from that ranking. The second job costs more per hour and fewer hours in total.

The third variable is tier, and it is a money question as much as an academic one. Pearson offers 4MA1 at Foundation tier, where the grade range tops out well below the top of the scale, and at Higher tier, which reaches the top grades. A candidate entered at the wrong tier either loses access to grades they could have earned or spends a year failing to answer questions pitched above them. Getting that decision right in Year 10 saves more money than any hourly discount, and it is a decision the school makes on evidence the tutor can help produce.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video with a shared whiteboard. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; sending a tutor to an address is a service we run only in India. For a 4MA1 candidate that is mostly a pricing fact rather than a pedagogical one: an online hour is an hour of maths, while an in-home hour in Abu Dhabi has somebody's drive from the island to Shakhbout City priced into it, which is why the two market ranges differ by roughly the cost of the car.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

4MA1 sits in the middle of a route, and the cost of support depends heavily on which end of that route a family is planning from. These are the stages Abu Dhabi schools actually run around it.

KS3Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9 preparation for the International GCSE route

The cheapest point in the whole sequence to intervene. Most 4MA1 grades are decided by whether fractions, negative indices, rearranging and basic algebraic manipulation are automatic before the course starts. An hour a fortnight in Year 9 costs a fraction of a Year 11 rescue block and removes most of the reason one is ever needed.

Abu Dhabi schools set their tier recommendations during Year 10, using internal assessment evidence from late Year 9 onwards. A family that waits for the first formal tier conversation is reacting to data rather than shaping it, and in an emirate where option and tier letters go out before the winter break that timing matters.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A (4MA1)

Two written papers, each two hours, each worth one hundred marks and half the qualification, with a calculator permitted in both and no coursework component. Content runs across number and the number system, equations, formulae and identities, sequences, functions and graphs, geometry and trigonometry, vectors and transformation geometry, and statistics and probability.

Pearson runs International GCSE exams in May/June and November each year, which gives Abu Dhabi candidates a genuine second window rather than a full year's wait. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. Centres differ in whether they will enter a candidate in November, so ask the maths department before building a plan around it.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Pearson Edexcel International AS and A Level Mathematics

The usual destination for a strong Higher tier 4MA1 candidate. The step up is in algebraic fluency rather than new topics, which is why candidates who scraped a grade through heavy calculator use at IGCSE struggle in the first term. Pure content assumes the 4MA1 Higher algebra is already automatic.

Several Abu Dhabi schools run the Pearson post-16 route alongside the IB Diploma, and families choosing between them at the end of Year 11 are usually choosing on breadth rather than on maths difficulty. The maths-only comparison is narrower than the marketing on either side suggests.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation

The other common destination, and the one where the 4MA1 tier decision comes back. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level assumes confident algebraic manipulation from day one; Applications and Interpretation leans on modelling and technology. A Foundation tier 4MA1 candidate entering Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is taking on a very steep first term.

Abu Dhabi has a long-established Diploma cohort across the island and the mainland corridor, and university requirements in the UAE and abroad differ on which maths course they accept for engineering, economics and medicine. Check the specific course page rather than the general admissions page, in Year 11 rather than Year 13.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The 4MA1 specification is organised into content areas, and marks are dropped unevenly across them. These are the areas a tutor works through, plus the adjacent maths qualifications Abu Dhabi families most often ask about in the same conversation.

Numbers and the number system

Foundation and Higher

Standard form, surds at Higher, percentage reverse problems, bounds and ratio. The cheapest marks on either paper and the most commonly dropped, because candidates meet this content in Year 9 and never revisit it. A single session on reverse percentages and bounds usually recovers more marks than one on trigonometry.

Equations, formulae and identities

Foundation and Higher

Rearranging, simultaneous equations, quadratics by factorising, formula and completing the square at Higher, algebraic fractions and proof. This is the area that decides whether post-16 maths is realistic, and it is where a Higher tier candidate either has automatic manipulation or spends the paper fighting the algebra instead of the question.

Sequences, functions and graphs

Foundation and Higher

Arithmetic and geometric sequences, nth term, function notation, inverse and composite functions at Higher, transformations of graphs, and differentiation on the Higher papers. Graph sketching is where method marks are most often available and least often claimed, because candidates plot points instead of describing shape.

Geometry and trigonometry

Foundation and Higher

Angle reasoning, circle theorems, Pythagoras, right-angled and non-right-angled trigonometry, three-dimensional work and circle measure. The marks here are overwhelmingly in written reasoning: a correct answer with no stated angle fact scores less than a wrong answer with a correct chain of reasoning.

Vectors and transformation geometry

Higher tier emphasis

Column vectors, vector geometry proofs, and the transformation work that runs through both tiers. Vector proof questions are routinely abandoned by candidates who can do every step individually, which makes them one of the highest-yield topics for a short, targeted block of sessions.

Statistics and probability

Foundation and Higher

Averages from tables, cumulative frequency, histograms with unequal intervals, tree diagrams and conditional probability. Histogram frequency density is the single most reliable source of dropped marks on the Higher papers, and it takes one session to fix permanently.

Calculator technique for both papers

Across the qualification

A calculator is permitted in both 4MA1 papers, which changes what examiners reward. Candidates lose marks by rounding mid-calculation, by not showing the substitution a method mark depends on, and by not knowing their own model's statistical and fraction functions. Not a syllabus topic; routinely worth several marks.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1)

IGCSE, taken alongside 4MA1 Higher

The extension qualification some Abu Dhabi schools run for strong mathematicians, covering calculus, series, logarithms and coordinate geometry. Families usually meet it as a surprise option letter in Year 10 and want to know whether it is worth the extra tutoring hours before committing.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics B (4MB1)

IGCSE, alternative specification

A different Edexcel maths specification with a different paper structure, sat by a smaller number of centres. Confirm with the maths department which code your child is entered against before buying any revision material, because past papers are not interchangeable between the two.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580)

IGCSE, the other board

The Cambridge equivalent, with Core and Extended tiers instead of Foundation and Higher and a different paper structure. Abu Dhabi families moving between schools sometimes change board mid-course, and the overlap is large but the question styles and the tiering rules are not identical.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families buy 4MA1 support, priced differently because the labour inside them differs. All three run one-to-one over live video, with work shared on screen in both directions.

Weekly hour through the course

The cheapest total cost and the hardest to sell, because it asks a family to spend money in Year 10 on a problem that has not happened yet. One hour a week through Years 10 and 11 secures the algebra and number work that the Higher papers assume, and a candidate on this track rarely needs a rescue block in the spring.

  • Lowest cost per mark across the two years
  • Tier decision supported by marked evidence, not by a guess
  • Short homework set and marked between sessions
  • A fixed slot held for the term rather than rebooked weekly

Paper-marking block before a series

Fewer sessions, more labour between them. The candidate sits a full past paper under timed conditions, the tutor marks it against the published mark scheme, and the session works only on the topics where marks were actually lost. This is the mode where asking whether marking sits inside the quoted hour matters most.

  • One timed paper per cycle, marked question by question
  • A topic ranking by marks dropped, rewritten after every paper
  • Revision order built from that ranking rather than from the syllabus order
  • Calculator technique audited on the candidate's own model

Tier and transition consultation

A short, bounded piece of work rather than ongoing tutoring. Used by families facing a Foundation or Higher decision, a board change between schools, or a post-16 choice between Pearson A Level and the IB Diploma maths courses. Usually two or three sessions and then nothing.

  • Current attainment measured against both tier ceilings
  • A written summary a parent can take to the maths department
  • Past-paper evidence rather than an opinion
  • An explicit recommendation, including no tutoring where that is right

What the Abu Dhabi market charges for 4MA1 support

Below is the rate structure in AED, with each band attributed to the provider or survey that published it as of October 2026. These are market figures, not an IB Gram price list, and they are published here because the cluster this page competes in is almost entirely silent on money. Our own model is a free trial lesson first and a quote after the diagnostic, for the reason set out above: the same syllabus code hides a steady two-year job and a ten-week rescue, and those do not cost the same.

Read the table with two questions in mind. First, what is inside the hour. A rate that covers live contact only is not comparable with one that covers marking a two-hour paper against the published scheme, which is real labour and routinely an hour of it. Second, what the exit looks like. Monthly packages in this market have been published at around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, and a package is harder to leave mid-term than a weekly slot.

The third thing to notice is the shape of the in-home premium. The published in-home band sits roughly AED 30 to AED 200 an hour above the equivalent online band, and that gap is not extra teaching. It is a car crossing Abu Dhabi in evening traffic, priced into your hour. For a family in Al Reem Island that premium is small; for one in Al Shamkha or Al Ain it is the largest single component of the bill. Whether that is worth paying is a judgement, but it should at least be a visible one.

02

The six things that actually change the number

  • Tier: Foundation needs fewer hours and almost no paper marking
  • Timing: triage four weeks out costs more than planning twelve weeks out
  • Session length: ninety minutes is cheaper per usable minute than sixty
  • Marking: a two-hour paper marked to the scheme is about an hour of labour
  • Seniority: worth paying for in Year 11, usually not in Year 10
  • Format: group lowers the bill and removes the reason for one-to-one

Tier comes first. A Foundation tier candidate needs fewer, shorter, more repetitive sessions and almost no past-paper marking, because the content ceiling is lower and the question styles are narrower. A Higher tier candidate aiming at the top grades needs full papers marked and a diagnostic ranking, which is labour outside the lesson. Two candidates at the same school in the same year group can therefore sit at opposite ends of the market band without either being overcharged.

Proximity to the series comes second. Twelve weeks out, a tutor can plan a syllabus order and work calmly through it. Four weeks out the job becomes triage, which is harder, denser and usually delivered in longer sessions. Demand also peaks in the eight weeks before each window, which tightens availability for the specialists rather than the generalists. Booking in September for a May series costs the same per hour as booking in March and buys a materially better match.

The remaining four are session length, whether marking is billed, seniority, and format. Ninety-minute sessions cost less per usable minute than sixty, because the first ten minutes of any session are spent re-entering the problem. Marking a two-hour paper to the published scheme is roughly an hour of work and some providers absorb it while others bill it. Seniority is worth paying for in an exam year and often not in Year 10. And a small group at two to four students lowers the cost per family while removing the thing a one-to-one hour is for.

03

4MA1 structure: two papers, one calculator, no coursework

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A is assessed by two written papers. Each runs two hours, carries one hundred marks and is worth half the qualification, a calculator is permitted in both, and there is no coursework or controlled assessment. That last point matters for cost planning: unlike a creative or practical subject, nothing accumulates across the two years that cannot be fixed in a concentrated block, which is why rescue tutoring works better in maths than in art.

Because both papers allow a calculator, the examiner is not testing arithmetic. Method marks are available for substitution, for a stated formula, for a correct chain of reasoning and for a sketch, and they are lost by candidates who write a single rounded answer from the calculator display with no working. A candidate who shows the substitution before pressing anything can score most of a question they ultimately get wrong, and this is the cheapest technique change available in the whole qualification.

The content spreads across six areas: numbers and the number system; equations, formulae and identities; sequences, functions and graphs; geometry and trigonometry; vectors and transformation geometry; and statistics and probability. Higher tier adds the heavier algebra, calculus, function notation, vector proof and histogram work. Confirm the paper structure and the content list against the current specification on qualifications.pearson.com for your child's cohort, and confirm with the maths department that the entry is 4MA1 rather than the Mathematics B specification, because the past papers are not interchangeable.

Foundation or Higher: the decision that costs or saves the most

No hourly discount matters as much as this choice. Pearson tiers 4MA1, and the two tiers sit different papers with different ceilings. A candidate entered at Foundation who was capable of Higher loses access to the upper grades, which can close a post-16 door that no amount of later tutoring reopens. A candidate entered at Higher who is not ready spends a year meeting questions pitched above them, loses confidence, and often ends up with a lower grade than the Foundation route would have produced.

The decision belongs to the school, and it is made on internal evidence. What a tutor can contribute is better evidence: a timed Foundation paper and a timed Higher paper, both marked to the published scheme, with the raw marks and the pattern of losses written down. That is a far stronger thing to take to a Year 10 parents' evening than a feeling. It also costs two sessions rather than a term, which is why we sell it as a bounded consultation rather than as a reason to start weekly tutoring.

The decision has a cost consequence afterwards too. A Higher tier candidate aiming at the top grades generates genuine marking labour across Year 11 and will sit nearer the specialist end of the market band. A Foundation candidate generally does not. Families who model this honestly in Year 10 often find that the cheaper total plan is a term of intensive work now to make Higher viable, rather than two years of steady tutoring inside a Foundation ceiling they never wanted.

Tutoring cost in the context of what Abu Dhabi families already pay

A tutoring quote lands differently depending on what else is on the bill, and this is context the fees cluster never provides. Private school fees in this emirate are approved and overseen by the regulator rather than set freely, and the surrounding market has been stable: in Dubai, the regulator confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year under an economic incentives package. Abu Dhabi fee decisions sit with ADEK rather than with Dubai's authority, so check your own school's published schedule rather than assuming the same.

Against a school fee, tutoring is a small and highly variable line. One session a week at the qualified-tutor band is roughly the published AED 600 to 1,200 a month. Two sessions a week in an exam year at the specialist band reaches the published AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month. A short paper-marking block of six sessions is a one-off cost rather than a standing one. And a private candidate entering an exam outside a school pays Pearson entry fees through a centre, which is a separate cost nobody includes in a tutoring comparison.

The planning point is that the total is controlled by duration, not by rate. A family paying the lower band for eighteen months spends more than a family paying the higher band for ten weeks. Most of the overspending we see in this emirate comes from starting late and then buying intensity, which is the most expensive combination available. Starting earlier at a lower intensity is both cheaper and, on the evidence of how 4MA1 marks are actually lost, more effective.

What you are actually buying in a 4MA1 hour

The honest breakdown of a specialist hour in an exam year is roughly this. Before the session, a timed paper has been marked question by question against the published mark scheme, and the losses have been sorted into careless, method and content. That is forty to sixty minutes of work on a two-hour paper. During the session, the content losses are taught, the method losses are drilled, and the careless losses are addressed as technique rather than as teaching. After it, the topic ranking is rewritten and the next paper is chosen to test what was just fixed.

That sequence is why two providers quoting the same number can be selling very different things. A rate covering live contact only, with homework self-marked at home, is a legitimate product at a lower price. A rate covering the marking and the diagnostic is a different product. Neither is dishonest; quoting the first and describing the second is. Ask any provider in this market a direct question: is the time spent marking my child's paper inside the hour I am paying for, or additional.

There is a second thing inside the hour that families rarely ask about, which is the written record. A session that produces a dated topic ranking, a marked paper your child can re-read and a short note on what to do next is checkable. A session that produces a verbal summary is not. Over a term, the difference is whether a parent can tell that the money moved something, or whether they are reliant on everybody feeling positive about it in April.

07

Online against in-home for 4MA1, priced honestly

An in-home maths tutor has real advantages and this page is not going to pretend otherwise. A tutor in the room can see a candidate's working upside down on the page, catch the moment attention goes, and keep a reluctant fifteen-year-old at the table. Those are worth something. IB Gram does not sell home visits in Abu Dhabi, so the table below compares what the local market offers against what we actually deliver, and a family is entitled to weigh it in either direction.

What online buys for a named-specification subject is the match. A 4MA1 Higher specialist who has marked those papers is a different proposition from a competent general maths tutor who will drive to Al Reef on a Tuesday, and in most of this emirate you cannot have both. Removing geography from the match also removes the travel premium from the rate, which for outlying communities is the largest single saving available. Maths is also the subject where screen sharing genuinely loses nothing: a shared whiteboard and a document camera reproduce the page.

The practical mechanics are straightforward. The candidate works on paper, photographs it or writes on a shared tablet canvas, and the tutor annotates live. Timed papers are sat on paper under real conditions and uploaded for marking. Nothing in that loop requires anybody to be in the same room, and it produces a saved record that an in-home arrangement does not. The honest exception is the candidate whose problem is attention rather than mathematics, and for those families we say so rather than selling a slot that will not be used.

Permits, invoices and the questions to ask before you pay

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful and permitted, and it is also licensed. The private tuition work permit arrived with Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years. The eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's own service page for it lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website or e-services system.

Two consequences for a family comparing quotes. A tutor who tells you no permit exists, or that one is optional, is either uninformed or hoping you are. And because individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no fine schedule published, any specific amount quoted at you as a scare tactic is unverifiable. Ask instead whether the person teaching your child holds the permit, and treat an evasive answer as the answer.

On invoicing, keep the questions narrow and factual. Ask what the hourly figure covers, whether marking is inside it, what notice ends the arrangement, and what the quoted figure includes or excludes in tax terms for that provider. Nothing on this page states the tax treatment of tuition fees in the UAE, because that is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority and not for a tutoring website to assert. Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing on the invoice rather than in a chat message.

The free trial, the diagnostic and the quote

Here is the sequence, with the conditions stated rather than buried. You tell us the school, the year group, the tier if one has been set, and the series your child is working towards. The candidate sits one timed past paper at home, on paper, under real conditions. We mark it against the published mark scheme before the trial lesson, which means the free hour is spent on the results of the diagnostic rather than on gathering it. The trial is one lesson per family and is booked without card details.

After the trial you receive a topic ranking by marks dropped, a recommended mode, and a quote. Sometimes the recommendation is nothing: a Year 10 candidate on track at the right tier with a competent department does not need paid tutoring, and saying so costs us an hour and keeps a family's trust for the two years when they might. We would rather lose a sale in October than be the reason a family stops believing anything a tutoring website tells them.

If no 4MA1 specialist has a slot in the window you need, you hear that at enquiry. Demand concentrates in the eight weeks before each Pearson series, so a May-series enquiry made in March competes with everybody else's. Where a UAE-based specialist is not available, the match may be a specialist teaching into Gulf Standard Time from elsewhere, and that is disclosed before booking rather than after. None of the competitor pages researched for this cluster discloses a coverage limit at all.

What a session costs in practice has as much to do with geography as with syllabus, because an in-home rate in this emirate carries somebody's drive inside it. These notes are about distance, evening timing and what the local tutoring market actually charges.

Al Reem Island

Dense, central, and the easiest part of the emirate for an in-home tutor to reach, which is why the local market quotes its lower in-home rates here. It is also the area where families most often compare an in-home quote against an online one and discover the gap is almost entirely travel.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

A long villa corridor where school buses arrive late and in-home tutors quote a premium or a two-hour minimum to make the drive worthwhile. Online sessions here usually sit at 5.30pm or later, and a one-hour slot is genuinely one hour rather than fifty minutes of settling down.

Al Reef and Al Shamkha

Further out again, and the point at which in-home quotes in this market start attracting a travel surcharge or simply a refusal. Families in these communities are the clearest beneficiaries of a rate with no car in it, and they tend to book later evening slots.

Yas Island and Saadiyat Island

Short commutes to the island schools and a high concentration of Higher tier candidates heading for competitive post-16 routes. The tutoring conversation here is usually about whether to add 4PM1 rather than whether 4MA1 is at risk, which changes the hours and the cost.

Al Bateen, Al Mushrif and the Corniche

Established inner-city neighbourhoods with large, experienced maths departments and strong internal cohorts. Local in-home supply is good here, so the honest comparison is specialist quality rather than availability, and that is the comparison online delivery wins.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

Mainland communities where a weekday evening is compressed by distance from the island schools. Friday and Saturday morning blocks work better than weekday hours for a paper-marking session that needs more than sixty minutes.

Masdar City and Between the Bridges

Smaller residential pockets with very thin local tutoring supply for a specific syllabus code. A family here asking for a 4MA1 Higher specialist rather than a generic maths tutor will usually be offered the generic one locally, which is the substitution an online match avoids.

Al Ain

Also under ADEK, two hours inland, and the part of the emirate where in-home rates for a named-specification specialist are least competitive simply because the pool is small. Online delivery removes the premium entirely rather than discounting it.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

The island British-curriculum schools

Students we support attend long-established British-curriculum schools on and around Abu Dhabi island, where Higher tier entry is the default and the tutoring request is usually about the top grades rather than a pass. Fee levels here also set family expectations about what an hour of tutoring should cost.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Abu Dhabi Grammar School
  • Abu Dhabi International School

The Khalifa City, Al Raha and mainland corridor

Students we support also attend the mainland corridor schools serving the villa communities east of the island. Cohorts here are large and mixed-tier, so the tier decision is a live conversation in Year 10 and the cost of getting it wrong is a year of mispitched teaching.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Reach British School
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi
  • Shining Star International School

Al Ain and the Al Dhafra region

A smaller, more widely spread cohort where local supply of a named-specification maths specialist is genuinely limited. Families here are the most likely to be quoted a travel premium or told nobody is available, which is the market condition online delivery exists to answer.

  • Al Ain English Speaking School
  • Brighton College Al Ain
  • Al Dhafra Private Schools
  • Emirates National Schools

School names appear here only to describe where Abu Dhabi families study. No affiliation, endorsement or commercial relationship with any named school is implied, and IB Gram has no connection to any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the school, the year and the tier

Those three facts decide almost everything about the plan and the price. If the tier has not been set yet, say so, because that becomes the first piece of work rather than something to assume. Confirm the entry is 4MA1 and not the Mathematics B specification.

  2. 02

Sit one timed paper before anything is paid for

A full past paper at home, on paper, to time, with no help. We mark it against the published mark scheme and sort the losses into careless, method and content. The free hour is then spent on the diagnosis rather than on producing it.

  3. 03

Take the trial lesson and the written ranking

One lesson per family, booked without card details. You leave with a topic ranking by marks dropped and an honest recommendation, which is sometimes that no paid tutoring is needed. A quote follows the diagnosis rather than preceding it.

  4. 04

Choose the mode, not just the rate

Weekly through the course, a paper-marking block before a series, or a bounded tier consultation. The mode sets the total cost far more than the hourly figure does, and the cheapest total is almost always the earliest start at the lowest intensity.

  5. 05

Work from the ranking and re-rank every cycle

Each cycle is a timed paper, marking, a session on the real losses, and a rewritten ranking. The next paper is chosen to test what was just fixed, which is how you find out whether the money moved anything rather than hoping it did.

  6. 06

Stop when the ranking stops moving

When the top of the ranking is stable and the losses are careless rather than content, the sessions have done their job. We say so. A provider who never reaches that conclusion is selling a subscription rather than a diagnosis.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED numbers are on the page, with sources

Market rates are published here with the provider or survey that quoted them and the date they were read. Three of six researched competitor pages print no price at all. A family that can see the market can argue with any quote, including ours.

The quote follows a marked paper

A rate quoted before anyone has seen your child's work is a guess dressed as a price. We mark a timed paper first, then quote against the actual job, which sometimes produces a smaller number than a family expected and occasionally none at all.

No travel is priced into the hour

Delivery is online one-to-one, so nobody is crossing the emirate in evening traffic on your money. For families in Al Reef, Al Shamkha and Al Ain that removes the single largest premium in the local market rather than discounting it.

Marking is stated, inside or outside

Marking a two-hour 4MA1 paper to the published scheme is about an hour of labour. We say whether it sits inside the quoted hour before you book, and we recommend asking every other provider in this market the same question in writing.

The tier decision is treated as a money decision

Foundation or Higher moves a family between market bands and decides which post-16 routes stay open. We support it with two timed papers marked to the scheme, as evidence for the school, rather than with an opinion offered for free.

Availability limits are disclosed at enquiry

Demand concentrates in the eight weeks before each Pearson series. If no 4MA1 specialist is free in your window you hear it immediately, and if the match teaches into Gulf Standard Time from outside the UAE you hear that before booking.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does an Edexcel IGCSE Maths A 4MA1 tutor cost per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

Market rates in the UAE run roughly AED 45 to 150 for a budget online tutor, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit with travel inside the rate, and AED 200 to 450 or more for a declared IGCSE specialist. One premium provider publishes AED 650. Those are other providers' own published figures as of October 2026, not ours. We quote after a timed paper has been marked, because the same syllabus code covers a steady two-year job and a ten-week rescue and those do not cost the same.

Is the marking of past papers included in the hourly rate or charged separately?+

That depends entirely on the provider, and it is the most useful question a family in this market can ask. Marking a two-hour 4MA1 paper against the published mark scheme, sorting the losses into careless, method and content, is roughly forty to sixty minutes of work. Some providers absorb it and price the hour higher; others bill live contact only and expect the paper to be self-marked at home. Both are legitimate products at different prices. Ask for the answer in writing, because a rate quoted without that detail is not comparable with one quoted with it.

How many 4MA1 sessions does a Year 11 candidate in Abu Dhabi usually need?+

It depends far more on when you start than on the child. A candidate starting in September of Year 11 at one session a week is working through a planned order and typically needs that single weekly hour. A candidate starting eight weeks before the series needs a denser block built around timed papers, which is more total labour in less time and costs more per week. We size it after marking one timed paper and we re-size it every cycle, stopping when the topic ranking stops moving rather than running sessions to a predetermined number.

Should my child be entered for 4MA1 at Foundation or at Higher tier?+

That is the school's decision and it should be made on marked evidence rather than on impressions. Foundation tops out below the top of the grade scale while Higher reaches it, so a wrongly cautious entry can close post-16 routes that later tutoring cannot reopen, and a wrongly ambitious one wastes a year on questions pitched above the candidate. What a tutor can usefully add is a timed Foundation paper and a timed Higher paper, both marked to the published scheme, with the raw marks written down for the maths department. That is two sessions, not a term.

Why is an in-home maths tutor in Abu Dhabi more expensive than an online one?+

Because the drive is inside the rate. The published in-home band in this market sits roughly AED 30 to 200 an hour above the equivalent online band, and that gap is travel time rather than additional teaching. In-home arrangements also commonly carry a two-hour minimum so the journey is worth making, which doubles the smallest purchase available. For a family in Al Reem Island the premium is modest; for one in Al Shamkha or Al Ain it is the largest single component of the bill, which is the saving online delivery actually represents.

Do 4MA1 tutoring rates rise closer to the exam series?+

The published hourly bands do not move much, but the practical cost of starting late does. Demand concentrates in the eight weeks before each Pearson window, so the specialists fill first and a late enquiry competes for a smaller pool. Late starts also force a denser mode: triage built around timed papers rather than a planned syllabus order, delivered in longer sessions. The result is a higher weekly spend for fewer weeks, which usually totals more than an earlier, calmer start would have. Book for a May series in the autumn rather than in March.

Can one tutor cover 4MA1 and Further Pure Maths 4PM1 for the same student?+

Often yes, and where a candidate is sitting both it is usually the better arrangement, because the two qualifications share algebraic machinery and a single tutor can stop the two folders blurring at deadline time. The practical constraint is that 4PM1 is a narrower specialism than 4MA1, so the pool of tutors genuinely comfortable with both is smaller. Ask at enquiry rather than assuming. If no single match exists we will say so and propose two tutors with a shared plan rather than stretching one across both.

Is a calculator allowed in both 4MA1 papers, and does that change how we revise?+

A calculator is permitted in both papers, and it changes revision considerably. The examiner is not testing arithmetic, so the marks sit in method: a stated formula, a visible substitution, a chain of reasoning, a sketch. Candidates lose marks by rounding mid-calculation and by writing a single display value with no working, which forfeits method marks on questions they nearly had. Revision should therefore include an audit of the candidate's own calculator model, its statistical and fraction functions, and the habit of writing the substitution before pressing anything.

Which Pearson exam series do Abu Dhabi schools enter for International GCSE maths?+

Pearson makes International GCSE exams available in May/June and November each year, so there is a genuine second window rather than a twelve-month wait after a disappointing result. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Whether your centre will enter a candidate in November is a school decision, so ask the maths department before planning around it, and use the live official timetable.

What is the cheapest way to support a 4MA1 candidate over two years?+

Start in Year 9 or early Year 10 at a low intensity. Most 4MA1 marks are decided by whether fractions, indices, rearranging and basic manipulation are automatic before the course begins, and an hour a fortnight at that stage costs a fraction of a Year 11 rescue block. The most expensive pattern in this market is the opposite: start late, then buy intensity. A family paying the specialist band for ten weeks of triage often spends more than one that paid the qualified-tutor band calmly for eighteen months.

Does a 4MA1 tutor working with Abu Dhabi families need a UAE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged fifteen to eighteen. The ministry's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so distrust any specific amount quoted at you. Verify on mohre.gov.ae.

Can we hire my child's own maths teacher from school for private sessions?+

That is the arrangement to avoid in this emirate. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the work permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the permit holder's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it. The practical reading: a teacher who offers you that arrangement is telling you something about their judgement, and the risk falls on them and on the school.

Does your quoted figure include VAT?+

Ask for that in writing on the invoice from any provider, including us, and keep the question narrow. Nothing on this page states the tax treatment of tuition fees in the UAE, because that is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority rather than something a tutoring website should assert. What a family can reasonably require is a clear statement of what the quoted figure includes, shown on the invoice rather than agreed in a chat message. A provider who cannot put that in writing has told you something useful about their bookkeeping.

What happens to our money if the 4MA1 match turns out to be wrong?+

Ask every provider this before paying anything, because the real cost of a bad match is the term it wastes rather than the hours it bills. Our arrangement is weekly rather than packaged, so a family can stop. We also replace a match on request after two sessions without requiring a reason, because a candidate who has decided they dislike the tutor will not work for them regardless of who is right. What we do not offer is any refund tied to a grade outcome, and nor should anybody else.

Is a small group class cheaper than one-to-one for 4MA1 in Abu Dhabi?+

Per family, yes, and tuition centres in this market price group classes per term rather than per hour, which makes direct comparison awkward. Ask for the per-hour equivalent before deciding. The trade-off is that the thing you are buying in a one-to-one 4MA1 hour is diagnosis: a paper marked against your child's specific pattern of losses and a session built from that pattern. In a group of four, that pattern is averaged. Groups work well for content coverage in Year 10 and poorly for exam-year triage.

We are in Al Ain - does that change the price of a 4MA1 tutor?+

With online delivery, no. The rate from Al Ain is the rate from Al Bateen, because no one is driving. In the local in-home market it changes a great deal: Al Ain sits roughly two hours inland, the pool of tutors familiar with a specific Pearson specification code is small, and families there are the most likely to be quoted a travel surcharge or told that nobody is available for that subject at all. That gap, rather than any discount, is what online one-to-one delivery actually removes for the western part of the emirate.

Get the paper marked, then talk about money

Send the school, the year group and the tier if one has been set, and have your child sit one full past paper at home under timed conditions. We mark it against the published mark scheme before the free trial lesson, so the hour is spent on what the paper showed rather than on gathering it. You leave with a topic ranking by marks dropped, a recommended mode and a quote built against the actual job. The trial is one lesson per family, booked without card details, and if the honest answer is that no paid tutoring is needed yet, that is what you will hear.
