IB 7 in Maths Coaching in Abu Dhabi

IB 7 in maths coaching in Abu Dhabi costs a different amount depending on which maths your child is taking, and almost nobody says so. Analysis and Approaches at higher level is a four-component course with a separate investigative paper; Applications and Interpretation is a different subject with different marks at stake. This page prices each route in AED, names what moves the figure, and sets out where the seventh grade point actually lives. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

  • Paper weightings set out by component, with the subject guide named as the check
  • AED figures quoted as market bands with the publisher stated each time
  • Exploration feedback given on the student's own work against the criteria
  • One-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

The price of a 7 depends on which maths course you are in

There are two IB mathematics courses, each available at two levels, and a family asking what coaching costs is really asking about four different products. Analysis and Approaches at higher level is the heaviest: two long papers, a separate investigative paper, a non-calculator component, and an exploration. Applications and Interpretation at standard level is a different course with different demands and, in practice, a different number of tutoring hours between a 6 and a 7. Quoting one hourly rate for all four is how this market avoids answering the question.

The market figures themselves are available and worth putting on the page, because almost nobody does. Qualified subject tutors online in the emirate are quoted between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above per Bestimate's Dubai rate table, with TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED publishing AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Budget online options run AED 33 to AED 65 per Tutopiya and EdFlik. Those are market rates, not an IB Gram price list.

What changes the number for a maths candidate in Abu Dhabi is mostly structural rather than geographic. Higher level carries a third examination paper, which means a distinct body of technique to teach and therefore more hours. Analysis and Approaches carries a non-calculator paper, which demands algebraic fluency that cannot be rehearsed in a fortnight. The exploration is worth a fifth of the grade and is written over months, so support for it is a separate line rather than part of the revision budget. And a candidate starting in September buys fewer hours than one starting in March for the same outcome.

The local variable that does matter is supply. Higher level Analysis and Approaches specialists who can mark Paper 3 to the mark scheme are scarce on the ground in this emirate, and scarcest between the mock window and the May session. A family choosing from tutors who can reach their address in Khalifa City or Al Shamkha on a weekday evening is choosing from a much smaller set than a family choosing online, and the in-home market prices that constraint at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour precisely because the journey is part of the service.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons over live video. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address; home visits are a service we offer only in India. For mathematics specifically the online format has a second practical benefit: working on a shared whiteboard with the student's own script on screen is closer to how marking actually happens than sitting beside somebody with a textbook, and the session leaves a record both sides can return to.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mathematical readiness for a 7 is built before the Diploma starts, and the cost of fixing it rises at every stage. These are the programmes in Abu Dhabi schools and what each contributes to a Diploma maths grade.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme mathematics

MYP mathematics is assessed against criteria including knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. The investigating-patterns criterion is the direct ancestor of both the exploration and the higher level investigative paper, and students who take it seriously in MYP 4 arrive with an advantage worth real marks.

Where an Abu Dhabi school runs MYP to Year 11, the criterion work is good preparation for Diploma internal assessment but gives less timed examination practice. Where the school switches to IGCSE at Year 10, the reverse applies. Knowing which gap your child has makes the first Diploma year considerably cheaper.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Mathematics as the entry route

An Extended-tier IGCSE pass is the usual entry point to Diploma mathematics, and Additional Mathematics is the better one for Analysis and Approaches at higher level. The gap between Extended IGCSE and higher level Analysis and Approaches is algebraic fluency and the expectation of proof, which is a term of work if addressed early.

Abu Dhabi schools vary in whether they require Additional Mathematics or a particular IGCSE grade for entry to higher level Analysis and Approaches, and some set an internal test. Ask before Year 11 ends, because a student placed in the wrong course in September is an expensive problem by February.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme mathematics

Two courses, each at higher and standard level. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and analytical route with a non-calculator paper; Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics route with calculator access throughout. Both carry a mathematical exploration worth a fifth of the grade, and higher level in both adds a third examination paper.

Abu Dhabi Diploma candidates normally sit the May session, and schools set their own internal deadline for the exploration, usually in the first half of the second year. That deadline is the single most commonly missed opportunity in the subject, because the exploration is worth more than any individual examination question.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme mathematics

CP candidates taking a DP mathematics course sit the same papers and complete the same exploration, with the same weightings. The difference is workload context: the reflective project and career-related study compete for the same weeks the exploration needs, which is worth planning for in September.

A small number of Abu Dhabi schools offer the CP. A CP candidate taking Applications and Interpretation at standard level should confirm with the school how their mathematics grade is reported to destination universities, because the surrounding qualification is read differently.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Mathematics is one subject on a timetable and several distinct skills in assessment. These are the areas where the seventh grade point is won and lost, named by component rather than by topic heading.

Algebraic manipulation without a calculator

Analysis and Approaches, HL and SL

Paper 1 on this course is sat without a calculator, so exact-form work, surds, logarithms and algebraic fractions have to be fluent rather than merely understood. Candidates who are strong with technology and weak by hand lose marks across the whole paper rather than on one topic, and the repair takes weeks of short daily practice.

Proof and reasoning

Analysis and Approaches, HL mainly

Proof questions divide the top band. A candidate who asserts a result where a derivation was required loses marks they had the mathematics to earn, and induction in particular rewards a learned structure. This is among the most teachable sources of marks at higher level.

Calculus

Both courses, HL and SL

Differentiation and integration carry marks across every paper, and the losses at the top of the range are in setting up the problem rather than in executing the technique. Related rates, kinematics in context and volumes of revolution all reward reading the situation before reaching for a rule.

Statistics and probability

Both courses, heavier in Applications and Interpretation

The band divider is interpretation. A test chosen correctly and concluded without reference to the significance level and the context scores below a response that does both. At higher level in Applications and Interpretation the statistical content is substantial and the explanations are where the grade sits.

Mathematical modelling

Applications and Interpretation, HL and SL

Marks go to candidates who find parameters and then say what they mean in the terms of the question. A model fitted and never interpreted earns the technical marks and stops there, which is the single most common way a 6 stays a 6 on this course.

Vectors, matrices and complex numbers

HL content, varying by course

The higher level extension topics are where candidates most often have genuine content gaps rather than technique gaps, because they are taught late and examined fully. A marked paper will show immediately which of the two is in play, and only one of them needs a term of teaching.

The third examination paper

HL only, both courses

The investigative paper rewards sustained work on an unfamiliar problem presented in stages, and it is a form as much as a topic. Candidates who have practised the structure handle the later parts; candidates meeting it cold in May answer the first two sections and stop.

The mathematical exploration

Both courses, HL and SL

Worth a fifth of the final grade and assessed against published criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. It is the component where careful candidates gain most, and the one most often written in a rush against a school deadline.

Calculator technique

Both courses

A graphic display calculator is a skill rather than a possession. Marks are lost on solving numerically when an exact answer was required, on failing to state the method the calculator performed, and on not checking a result that any sketch would have shown to be wrong.

Arabic and UAE social studies alongside the Diploma

School-set

These subjects run alongside the Diploma in UAE private schools and occupy timetable hours a maths plan has to fit around. For a candidate adding daily algebraic practice to an already full week, the honest accounting of available hours matters more than the ambition.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy mathematics support, and the right one depends on which component is costing the marks rather than on how worried the family is.

Technique block, examination papers

Weekly one-to-one work on the examination components, with a marked timed section every second session. For an Analysis and Approaches candidate this usually splits between non-calculator fluency and the structure of longer questions. Costed per subject per month, with a clear end at the May session.

  • Diagnostic marked paper before the plan is written
  • Non-calculator practice set as short daily work between sessions
  • One timed section marked every second session with a breakdown
  • Higher level Paper 3 treated as a separate strand, not an afterthought

Exploration support track

Separate from examination work because it is assessed separately and worth a fifth of the grade. Feedback is given on the student's own draft against the published criteria; the tutor does not write, complete or produce any part of it. Usually three to five sessions spread across the months before the school's deadline.

  • Topic and scope interrogated before any writing begins
  • Feedback mapped to the published criteria by name
  • Mathematical communication and reflection treated as mark-bearing, not decoration
  • Dated feedback log so authorship of the work is demonstrable

Single diagnostic session

One session on a recent marked paper, producing a written list of where the marks went and whether the gap is fluency, structure, content or pacing. The cheapest purchase available in the subject and frequently the only one a family needs before deciding anything else.

  • No programme attached and no commitment implied
  • Written marks-lost list the family keeps
  • Clear answer on whether the course and level are the right fit
  • Honest statement when further hours would not help

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the choice behind the cost

The two IB mathematics courses are genuinely different subjects, and a family that does not know which one their child is taking cannot price coaching for it. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and analytical route: it expects fluency by hand, it includes proof, and its first paper is sat without a calculator. Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics route: technology is available throughout, and the marks sit in choosing a model or a test and then explaining what the result means in context.

That difference changes the teaching entirely. A candidate struggling in Analysis and Approaches at higher level usually needs daily algebraic practice over months, which is cheap per session and long in duration. A candidate struggling in Applications and Interpretation usually needs to learn to write interpretations, which is a short, high-yield intervention. Quoting the same package for both is how families end up buying the wrong shape of support at the right hourly rate.

There is also a destination question, and it should be asked before the course is chosen rather than after. Many degree programmes in engineering, physical sciences, mathematics and economics specify a particular IB mathematics course and level, and some specify Analysis and Approaches explicitly. Those requirements are published by each institution and they change, so the only reliable action is to read the admissions page of the specific university and course, or ask its admissions office, rather than relying on a general claim from a tutoring site.

For an Abu Dhabi family the practical sequence is: confirm the course and level in writing with the school, confirm the destination requirements with the universities under consideration, then price the support. Doing it in that order avoids the most expensive outcome in the subject, which is discovering in the second year that the course taken does not match the course required.

The components and their weightings, written out

Candidates and parents routinely plan revision as though the papers were equal, and they are not. On both courses at standard level the two examination papers carry the bulk of the grade with the exploration taking a fifth. At higher level a third examination paper enters, and the weighting of the first two falls accordingly while the exploration keeps its share. The consequence is that higher level candidates have a whole component, worth a substantial slice of the grade, that standard level candidates never meet.

Spelling out the weightings changes behaviour. A candidate who knows the exploration carries a fifth of the grade treats a weekend spent on it as equivalent to a weekend spent on examination practice, which it is. A higher level candidate who knows the third paper exists as a separate component with its own style prepares for it deliberately rather than hoping their general ability covers it. Neither insight requires a tutor; both are routinely absent.

The durations matter for pacing practice. Standard level papers are shorter than higher level ones, and the higher level investigative paper is shorter again, which changes how questions have to be approached: a sixty-minute paper with extended multi-part problems punishes a slow start far more than a two-hour paper does. Rehearsing under the actual duration is the only way to learn that, and candidates frequently practise untimed and then meet the clock in May.

Everything in the table below should be confirmed against the current IB subject guide, which your child's teacher holds and which the IB publishes. This page does not reproduce IB documents, and weightings and durations are revised between syllabus cycles. Ask the teacher to confirm the figures for the specific course and level your child is taking before planning a revision split around them.

What a 7-track in maths costs in Abu Dhabi, and what moves the number

Four variables move the figure, and only one of them is the hourly rate. The first is level: higher level adds a component, which adds hours. The second is course: Analysis and Approaches needs sustained fluency work spread over months, while Applications and Interpretation gains often come from a short, targeted intervention on interpretation. The third is the exploration, which is a separate line because it is assessed separately. The fourth is start date, and it is the one families control and the one they most often waste.

On rates, the published market figures are these. Budget online tuition runs AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, per Tutopiya and EdFlik. Qualified subject tutors online sit between AED 150 and AED 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above per Bestimate's Dubai rate table, with TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to AED 600 budget, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

In-home delivery carries the travel premium that shows up clearly in the market: AED 180 to AED 350 an hour per Bestimate and AED 200 to AED 500 for independent home tutors, with advertised monthly packages of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions against AED 799 for eight online sessions. For a mathematics candidate that premium is particularly poor value, because the work benefits from frequent short contact rather than long visits, and travel makes frequency expensive.

IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page, because the honest figure depends on the course, the level, whether the exploration is in scope and how many months remain. The route is a free trial lesson, on the condition that it is a single lesson, then a consultation where those four are established. What we will not do is quote a number that looks competitive and then discover the candidate needs Paper 3 technique nobody costed.

Where candidates at the top of the range lose maths marks

  • Method marks lost to unwritten steps, in every marked script at every level
  • Exact form given as a decimal, particularly on the non-calculator paper
  • Models and tests completed without an interpretation sentence
  • The higher level investigative paper attempted without rehearsing its structure

Method marks are the largest single loss and the easiest to recover. Both courses award marks for method, and a correct final answer with no visible working collects fewer of them than a wrong answer reached by a clearly shown method. Strong candidates lose these constantly, because they can do the step mentally and see no reason to write it. The repair is a habit, it takes two or three sessions to install and it needs maintaining under timed conditions, because it is the first thing to go when a paper is tight.

The second loss is exact form. On Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 and in many Paper 2 questions, an answer left as a decimal where an exact value was required scores nothing for an otherwise correct piece of work. Candidates who have grown up with technology find this the hardest adjustment in the course, and it is worth drilling specifically rather than hoping general practice catches it.

The third is interpretation, which is where Applications and Interpretation candidates lose a band. A model fitted, a parameter found, a test performed, and then no sentence saying what it means for the situation in the question. The marks for that sentence are allocated and they go unclaimed. This is the highest-yield fix in the subject because the mathematics is already right.

The fourth is the higher level investigative paper, met cold. Candidates who have practised its structure work through the staged parts and pick up marks in the later sections; candidates who have not answer the opening sections and stop. It is not harder mathematics so much as unfamiliar presentation, and three or four practice papers under timed conditions changes the outcome more than a term of extra content.

05

The exploration: a fifth of the grade, written in a hurry

The mathematical exploration is an independent written investigation assessed against published criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the mathematics itself. It carries a fifth of the final grade in both courses at both levels. That makes it worth more than any single examination question a candidate will face, and it is the component most often produced against a school deadline in a fortnight.

Most of the quality is decided by the topic. A topic too broad produces a survey; a topic too narrow produces four pages; a topic where the mathematics is below the level of the course caps the mathematics criterion regardless of how well it is written. Choosing well is a conversation worth having before anything is drafted, and it is a conversation that takes about an hour. Candidates who get this right rarely need much help afterwards.

The criteria that cost marks are the ones that look like formalities. Personal engagement is not a sentence about why the student likes the topic; it is evidence of independent thinking in the mathematics. Reflection is not a paragraph at the end; it is a running commentary on the significance of what is being found. Mathematical communication includes notation, variable definition and the consistent use of terminology, and it is routinely lost through carelessness rather than ignorance.

The boundary on help is firm. A tutor may teach the skills the exploration requires, explain each criterion and its descriptor, discuss the student's own draft, point out an unclear argument or an undefined variable, and model technique on a different topic. A tutor must not write, complete or produce any part of the work. Feedback is given against criterion names and logged with dates, which both keeps the work the student's own and gives them a record if authorship is ever questioned.

06

Calculator discipline and the two paper cultures

A graphic display calculator is an examined skill, and the IB mathematics courses treat it differently from each other. On Analysis and Approaches the first paper is sat without one, which means the course contains a genuine by-hand culture that cannot be faked. On Applications and Interpretation technology is available throughout, and the examined skill becomes knowing which tool to use and how to report what it did.

The errors are correspondingly different. Analysis and Approaches candidates get into trouble by relying on technology in preparation and then meeting Paper 1 without it, which produces a paper where every question costs slightly more time than it should until the clock runs out. The defence is short daily by-hand practice over months rather than a block of revision, because fluency decays and has to be maintained.

Applications and Interpretation candidates get into trouble the other way: a numerical answer produced with no indication of the method, on a question that awarded marks for the approach. A regression run, a solver used, an intersection found, and nothing on the page about what was done. Stating the method the calculator performed is a presentation habit worth real marks and it takes one session to install.

Both groups lose marks to the same unforced error, which is failing to sanity-check a result. A sketch that takes ten seconds will show that a probability cannot exceed one, that a length cannot be negative, or that a gradient has the wrong sign. Candidates at the top of the range are as prone to this as anyone, because they trust their own arithmetic. Building a check into the routine is cheap and it is where a surprising number of single marks live.

07

How sessions run, who regulates the school, and the limits we state

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard, screen sharing and the candidate's own marked script open. For mathematics the whiteboard is the point: the tutor sees the working as it is produced, which is where the method-mark habits are visible. Gulf Standard Time lessons are scheduled around the Abu Dhabi school week, with earlier slots for island and Saadiyat families, later for Khalifa City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City, weekend blocks for timed papers, and post-Iftar timing during Ramadan.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. The relevant argument here is frequency: non-calculator fluency is built by short, regular contact, and the in-home market prices each visit at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour because the journey is included, which makes frequency the expensive option. Online, three short sessions a week costs what one long visit does, and for Paper 1 work the three are worth more.

Private schools in Abu Dhabi are overseen by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate; Dubai's regulator is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and Sharjah's is the Sharjah Private Education Authority. IB Gram holds no regulator approval of any kind and says so plainly. Separately, individual private tutors in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, and asking a tutor whether they hold it is reasonable.

Two limits worth stating. First, no tutor can guarantee a grade in this or any subject, and this page offers none. Second, specialist supply for higher level mathematics in this emirate is thin between the mock window and the May session, and where no specialist is free for your course at the hours you need we say so and offer a different slot, a later start or a referral rather than filling the hour with someone who cannot mark the paper.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Daily algebraic practice is the one thing a Paper 1 candidate cannot buy in bulk, and whether a week contains it depends on the commute. These notes are about that arithmetic.

Al Reem Island

Short commutes and apartment living, which makes a twenty-minute daily practice habit realistic on weekdays. For a non-calculator paper, frequency beats session length, and this is the community best placed to deliver it.

Saadiyat Island

The shortest school runs in the capital and small Diploma cohorts, so a candidate can sit a timed Paper 1 section after school and still have the evening. Small cohorts also mean fewer peers at the same level to compare working with.

Khalifa City

A term-time school run that removes a substantial part of each weekday, which pushes timed work to the weekend. Candidates here do better with two weekday technique sessions and one longer weekend paper than with three equal slots.

Al Raha and Al Bandar

Adjacent to the main Diploma cluster and the heaviest source of higher level Analysis and Approaches demand in the emirate. Tutor availability in this corridor is tightest between the mock window and the May session.

Yas Island and West Yas

A growing second-year cohort with a slow afternoon commute. Families here frequently split the week between examination technique and exploration work, which is the right structure if both are booked rather than one displacing the other.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

A large mainland catchment where the in-home travel premium is at its highest and the local pool of higher level mathematics specialists at its thinnest. This is where moving online changes both the price and the choice.

Al Ain

An hour inland with very few higher level mathematics specialists physically present. A candidate here wanting Paper 3 marked by somebody who teaches it has no local route, which is the practical argument for live video rather than a preference.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas corridor

The largest Diploma mathematics population in the emirate, and where most higher level Analysis and Approaches classes sit. Exploration deadlines differ by several weeks between schools here, which matters because the exploration is a fifth of the grade.

  • Raha International School
  • GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • Al Yasmina Academy

Island and Saadiyat Diploma schools

Smaller cohorts, often with a single higher level mathematics class, so a candidate at the top of the set has little internal comparison. Externally marked timed work is correspondingly more informative here.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi

Mainland and Al Ain

Fewer Diploma schools across a wider area, and the thinnest supply of specialists who teach the higher level investigative paper. Candidates here are often the strongest mathematician in their year, which is isolating and makes external marking useful.

  • Emirates National Schools
  • Nord Anglia International School Abu Dhabi
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Ain English Speaking School

Schools are named only as context for the ADEK private schools environment Abu Dhabi mathematics candidates study in; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership is implied, and inspection outcomes should be read on the regulator's own listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the course and level in writing

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, higher or standard level. It sounds obvious and it is regularly unclear to families, and the four combinations need different teaching. The school can confirm it in one line, and it determines everything about the plan and the cost.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson on a recent marked paper

One free trial lesson with the subject specialist, on the condition that it is a single lesson, spent on a recent marked paper read against the mark scheme. The output is a written list of marks lost by cause: method presentation, exact form, interpretation, content or pacing.

  3. 03

Decide whether the exploration is in scope

It carries a fifth of the grade and is assessed separately, so it is a separate decision and a separate line in the plan. If the school deadline is months away, this is the highest-value work available. If it has passed, the plan is examination technique only and we say so.

  4. 04

Short, frequent sessions with daily practice between

Mathematics responds to frequency. Sessions are short and regular, with brief by-hand practice set between them for Analysis and Approaches candidates, and a marked timed section every second session to test whether the method habit holds under pressure.

  5. 05

Rehearse the right paper under the right clock

Timed practice uses the actual duration of the component being sat, including the higher level investigative paper where it applies. Pacing is a learned discipline and it cannot be learned untimed, which is how most candidates practise and why the clock surprises them in May.

  6. 06

    The honest fallback

If no specialist is free for your course at the hours you need, we say so and offer a different slot, a later start or a referral elsewhere. Higher level mathematics supply in Abu Dhabi is tightest between the mock window and the session, which is when it is most asked for.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Four courses priced as four courses

Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation at two levels are different products with different hour requirements, and this page prices them separately. Quoting one rate for IB maths is how the rest of this market avoids the question a parent actually asked.

Weightings on the page, with a check attached

The components and their shares are set out so a family can plan a revision split that matches the marks. Every figure carries an instruction to confirm it against the current subject guide, because weightings are revised between syllabus cycles and a stale number is worse than none.

It is worth more than any single examination question and it is usually written in a rush. We schedule it separately, interrogate the topic before drafting, and give feedback on the student's own work against the published criteria with dates recorded.

Frequency instead of long visits

Non-calculator fluency is built by short, regular contact, which is exactly what the in-home model makes expensive by pricing a journey into every hour. Online delivery buys three short sessions a week for what one long visit costs, and for Paper 1 the three are worth more.

Prices with sources, no price list

Every AED band here is attributed to Bestimate's rate table or to a competitor's own published rate, with the month it was read. We publish no IB Gram figure because the honest one depends on course, level, exploration scope and months remaining.

No guarantee, no accreditation claim

Nobody can guarantee a grade and this page offers none. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from the IB, KHDA, ADEK or any board, and says so. Individual tutors in the UAE need the MoHRE permit, which is free, and you may ask whether a tutor holds it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Which IB maths course is my child taking, and why does it change the cost?+

Confirm it with the school in one line, because the four combinations need different teaching. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic and analytical route with a non-calculator first paper and proof; Applications and Interpretation is the modelling and statistics route with technology throughout. Higher level in either adds a third examination paper. A candidate needing months of by-hand fluency work and one needing a short intervention on writing interpretations are not buying the same thing, even at the same hourly rate.

Is the exploration really worth as much as an exam paper?+

A fifth of the final grade, on both courses and at both levels, assessed against published criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. That makes it worth more than any single examination question a candidate will meet, and it is the component most often written in a rush against a school deadline. Confirm the exact weighting for your child's course and level with their teacher against the current subject guide.

My child's maths answers are correct but the marks are low. Why?+

Almost always method presentation. Both courses award method marks, and a correct final answer with no visible working collects fewer of them than a wrong answer reached by a clearly shown method. Strong candidates do steps mentally and see no reason to write them. The second common cause is exact form: a decimal given where an exact value was required scores nothing for otherwise correct work. Both are habits, both take two or three sessions to install and both need maintaining under timed conditions.

What is the higher level third maths paper actually like?+

It presents extended investigative problems in stages, so later parts depend on earlier ones and the paper rewards sustained work on something unfamiliar. It is a form as much as a topic. Candidates who have rehearsed its structure work through the staged sections and collect marks in the later parts; candidates meeting it cold answer the opening sections and stop. Three or four practice papers under the correct duration changes the outcome more than a term of additional content teaching.

Which of the two IB maths courses should an Abu Dhabi candidate pick?+

They are different rather than ranked, and treating one as the easier option is how candidates end up in the wrong course. Analysis and Approaches demands algebraic fluency by hand, including a paper sat without a calculator, and includes proof. Applications and Interpretation demands modelling and statistical interpretation, which many candidates find harder to write than to calculate. The right question is which course your destination universities require, which is published on their own admissions pages and should be read there.

Does my child's university course require a specific IB maths route?+

Many do, particularly in engineering, physical sciences, mathematics and economics, and some specify Analysis and Approaches explicitly. Requirements are set by each institution, published on its own admissions pages, and revised. The only reliable action is to read the page for the specific course or ask the admissions office directly. No tutoring site should tell you what a university requires, and nothing on this page implies that tutoring is needed to meet an admissions requirement.

How much does IB maths tutoring cost per month in Abu Dhabi?+

Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions at AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Hourly, qualified subject tutors online run AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and TutorChase AED 270. Higher level sits at the specialist end because the third paper is additional work. Those are market figures, not an IB Gram price list.

Can short frequent sessions work better than one long weekly lesson?+

For Analysis and Approaches, usually yes. Non-calculator fluency decays and is built by regular short contact rather than by a single long block, so three twenty-five minute sessions a week often outperform one ninety-minute lesson for the same total. Online delivery makes that affordable because no journey is priced into each session; the in-home market quotes AED 180 to AED 500 an hour precisely because travel is included, which makes frequency the expensive option.

What makes an exploration topic worth a 7 rather than a 5?+

Before any drafting, and with the criteria in front of you. A topic too broad produces a survey, one too narrow produces four thin pages, and one where the mathematics sits below the level of the course caps the mathematics criterion regardless of the writing. The useful test is whether the student can state a specific question and name the mathematics they will use to answer it. That conversation takes about an hour and it determines most of the final mark.

What help with the exploration is allowed?+

A tutor may teach the skills it requires, explain each criterion and its descriptor, discuss the student's own draft, point out an unclear argument or an undefined variable, and model technique on a different topic. A tutor must not write, complete or produce any part of the work, or edit it to a finished state. We give feedback against criterion names and log it with dates, which keeps the work the student's own and gives them a record if authorship is ever questioned.

My child relies heavily on their calculator. Is that a problem?+

On Analysis and Approaches, yes, because Paper 1 is sat without one and every question then costs slightly more time than it should until the clock runs out. The defence is short daily by-hand practice sustained over months rather than a block of revision, since fluency decays. On Applications and Interpretation the risk is different: a numerical answer with no indication of the method on a question that awarded marks for the approach. Stating what the calculator did is a one-session habit worth real marks.

Is it too late to improve a maths grade three months before the session?+

It depends which of the four losses is in play, and the marked paper will say. Method presentation, exact form and interpretation are habits and all three are improvable in three months, often substantially, because the mathematics is already understood. Pacing responds to timed practice in the same window. A genuine content gap in higher level extension topics is the one case where three months may not be enough, and an honest adviser names that rather than selling the hours anyway.

Should the same tutor cover maths and a science subject?+

Where the marks are being lost to a shared habit, such as method presentation or unwritten reasoning lines, one tutor can address both efficiently and the saving is real. Where the marks are going to subject-specific content, the saving disappears because the teaching has to be done by someone who marks that paper. Decide it from the two marked scripts rather than from the budget, because buying a generalist for a specialist problem costs more in the end than the hourly difference.

When is the exploration deadline, and who sets it?+

The school sets it, not the IB, and in Abu Dhabi the dates differ by several weeks between schools a short drive apart. Most fall in the first half of the second Diploma year. Ask the teacher for the internal deadline in writing at the start of the year, because the exploration carries a fifth of the grade and the work needs months rather than a fortnight. This page publishes no IB session or results dates; confirm those with your IB coordinator.

Name the course, then price the work

Before comparing any quote, establish three things in writing: which IB mathematics course your child is taking, at which level, and when the school's exploration deadline falls. Those three determine both the shape of the work and its cost, and families routinely compare prices without knowing any of them. Then spend one session on a recent marked paper to find whether the marks are going to method presentation, exact form, interpretation, content or the clock. Book a free trial lesson with a subject specialist, keep the written marks-lost list, and build the plan around frequency rather than long visits.
