IB Mock Exam Preparation in Abu Dhabi

IB mock exam preparation in Abu Dhabi only works if somebody reads the script. Mocks are set by your child's school, marked by their own teachers, and used to justify a predicted grade, so the useful work is diagnostic rather than motivational. This page sets out what a mock mark proves, what it does not, and the week-by-week evidence a family should be able to see. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

  • Every session anchored to a marked script or a timed question set
  • Mark breakdowns reported by component and command term, not as a grade
  • IA feedback given on the student's own draft, never written for them
  • One-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled to Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

A mock is evidence, and most of it gets thrown away

Mock exams in an Abu Dhabi IB school are written, sat and marked internally. The school chooses the papers, often from previous sessions, sets its own window, applies the published assessment criteria as its teachers read them, and then uses the result for two purposes: telling a student where they stand and justifying a predicted grade to universities. That makes a mock the single richest piece of evidence a Diploma candidate generates before the real session, and in most households it is read once, as a number, and then filed.

The number is the least useful part. A 4 in Chemistry HL tells you nothing actionable. The same script, read question by question, tells you that eleven marks were lost on command terms where the candidate described instead of explaining, that six went on a data-analysis question where uncertainty was never propagated, and that four were simply unattempted because the paper ran out of time. Those are three different problems with three different fixes and three different costs in hours. One is a vocabulary job, one is a technique job, one is a pacing job.

This page is built around that reading, because the brief for it was evidence rather than reassurance. What follows is what a marked mock script actually yields, how it connects to a predicted grade and how it does not, what the weeks between mocks and the May session should produce in writing, and where mock marks go missing in each subject group. The AED figures are here too, quoted as market rates with their sources, but they sit behind the diagnostic argument rather than in front of it.

There is a limit to state at the outset. A tutor does not set a predicted grade and cannot change one. That belongs to the subject teacher and the school, which hold the full picture including classwork, internal assessment progress and attendance. What marked work can do is give a teacher better evidence to look at, and give a student a countable list of repairs between a mock mark and the next grade band. Any page promising a grade movement is selling something nobody owns.

Delivery is one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address; home visits are a service we offer only in India. During mock season that matters practically rather than philosophically: a script marked on Tuesday needs reading with the student on Wednesday, and the scheduling flexibility to do that is easier online than it is around the Abu Dhabi school run. It also widens the pool. A candidate in Al Ain or Al Shamkha wanting an HL Chemistry specialist to read a mock paper is otherwise choosing from whoever can drive to the address inside a reasonable window, which is a constraint about geography rather than about teaching. Live video removes it and leaves only the question of who can mark the paper to the criteria, which is the question the family meant to ask.

At a glance

  • Mock papers are school-set and school-marked; the IB does not run them
  • A mock mark justifies a predicted grade but does not determine it; the subject teacher and school do
  • Marked scripts, not mark totals, are what a tutoring plan should be built from
  • Abu Dhabi DP candidates normally sit the May session, with mock windows set by each school
  • IB dates are not published here: confirm every session and results date with your IB coordinator
  • Market rates for IB specialist tuition run AED 200 to AED 450 and above per hour, per Bestimate's Dubai rate table
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mocks exist at more than one stage, and they mean different things at each. These are the IB programmes running in Abu Dhabi schools and what an internal assessment week signifies in each one.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

There are no mock exams in the PYP, and any school presenting them as such has imported a structure the programme does not use. Assessment is continuous, with the exhibition at the end of the programme as the summative piece. Where families look for support here, the useful work is in written explanation and mathematical reasoning rather than in examination technique.

Abu Dhabi PYP schools report against the programme's own framework rather than against examination grades, which can be disorienting for parents arriving from systems that test annually. Ask the school how it will evidence readiness for MYP, because that is the transition where examination habits begin to matter.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP assessment runs on criteria A to D in each subject, each with its own mark band and descriptors, and schools increasingly run formal internal assessment weeks in MYP 4 and 5 that function as mocks. Reading those papers against the criterion descriptors is genuinely useful preparation, because the criterion language reappears in Diploma internal assessment.

Several Abu Dhabi schools offer MYP through Year 11 with eAssessment as an option, and others switch students to IGCSE at Year 10. A family whose child is in MYP 5 should know which route the school has chosen, because it changes what a mock week is rehearsing for.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The programme where mocks carry real weight. DP mocks usually sit in the winter of the second year, use past papers, and feed the predicted grades that go to universities. The grade is school-issued; the papers are externally written in origin. That combination makes a mock script unusually close to the real article and therefore unusually informative.

Abu Dhabi DP candidates normally sit the May session. Mock windows vary between schools in the emirate and are usually set against university application deadlines rather than against the exam calendar, which is why two schools a few kilometres apart can mock six weeks apart.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

CP students take DP courses alongside a career-related study, so they sit mocks in their DP subjects on the same timetable as DP candidates. The reflective project runs in parallel and has its own internal deadlines, which in practice collide with the mock window more often than schools plan for.

The CP is offered by a small number of schools in the emirate, and CP candidates often find mock-season support harder to buy because tutors default to assuming a full Diploma. Stating the programme at the outset avoids a plan built for the wrong course load.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Where mock marks actually go, by subject. Each note names the component and the behaviour rather than the topic, because that is the level at which a marked script is useful.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

HL mock losses concentrate in Paper 3, where the extended investigative questions reward sustained reasoning rather than recall, and in proof. Across both levels, marks go on unjustified steps in method-marked questions and on calculator papers where an exact form was required.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistical interpretation is the heaviest mark sink: tests chosen correctly and then conclusions written without reference to the significance level or the context. Modelling questions lose marks where parameters are found and never interpreted in the terms the question set.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mock scripts typically show losses in energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, plus a consistent band of marks lost on data questions where uncertainty is calculated but not propagated or discussed. Command-term discipline between state, outline and explain costs more than content gaps.

Physics

HL and SL

Marks go on fields and circular motion at HL, and across both levels on the long-answer questions where a correct equation is applied without the reasoning line the mark scheme credits. Graph questions lose marks on gradient interpretation rather than on plotting.

Biology

HL and SL

The most command-term sensitive subject in the group. Mock answers are routinely accurate and uncredited because they describe where they were asked to explain, or outline where the question asked for an evaluation. Data-based questions reward reading the axes before the prose.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and labelled axes carry marks that are lost casually, and evaluation marks go unclaimed because candidates stop after analysis. HL quantitative questions lose marks on units and on interpretation rather than on calculation.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 marks turn on close reading of the specific text rather than on general technique spotting, and Paper 2 on sustained comparison. Mock scripts commonly show strong knowledge of works and weak control of the comparative structure the criteria reward.

Business Management

HL and SL

Marks are lost where tools are named and not applied to the stimulus, and in the extended-response questions where a judgement is required and only a summary is given. The case-study paper rewards familiarity with the pre-release material that mocks often simulate imperfectly.

History

HL and SL

Source-based questions lose marks on provenance and on the compare-and-contrast structure rather than on content. Essay marks go on argument maintained across the response, and mock scripts often show a strong first paragraph followed by narrative.

Arabic and UAE social studies alongside the Diploma

School-set

Private schools in the UAE teach Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies alongside the licensed international curriculum, and those lessons continue through mock season. For a DP candidate in a mock window this is fixed timetable load that a revision plan has to accommodate rather than wish away.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to use a mock, separated by how soon the script is read rather than by how many hours are bought.

Script review, single session

One session per subject, taken within days of the mock, spent entirely on the marked script. The output is a written list of marks lost grouped by cause: command term, method presentation, content gap, pacing. Families often buy this first because it is cheap, bounded and tells them whether anything further is needed.

  • Script read question by question with the candidate present
  • Marks grouped by cause rather than by topic
  • Written summary the student can show their subject teacher
  • No ongoing commitment attached

Mock-to-session block

Weekly one-to-one teaching from the mock window through to the May session, built around the repairs the script identified and re-tested with timed question sets. Each marked piece is logged, so the family can see what moved. This is the standard shape for a candidate two grade bands below target in one or two subjects.

  • Fixed weekly slot per subject held to the session
  • Timed question sets marked and returned with a breakdown
  • Evidence log updated after every marked piece
  • Plan rewritten when the evidence says the first diagnosis was wrong

Internal assessment feedback alongside mocks

Mock fortnight and internal assessment deadlines tend to collide, so support for both runs in parallel. Feedback is given on the student's own draft against the published criteria; the tutor does not write, complete or produce any part of the work. That boundary is stated to students in the first session.

  • Feedback mapped to the published criterion descriptors by letter
  • Comments on the student's own draft, returned for them to act on
  • Deadline mapping so coursework and mock revision do not collide
  • Clear written record of what feedback was given and when

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What an IB mock actually is, and who owns each part of it

A mock exam in an Abu Dhabi IB school is an internal exercise built from external material. The school selects papers, usually from previous sessions, decides when the window sits, invigilates it, and marks it using the published assessment criteria. No part of the process is run by the IB, and no mock result appears on any certificate. That matters because it changes who you can usefully ask about a mark: the subject teacher who marked the script owns the judgement, not an external body.

What the school does with the result is where the stakes come from. Mock marks are one of the main inputs to a predicted grade, and predicted grades go to universities. In Abu Dhabi, where mock windows are frequently set against application deadlines rather than against the exam calendar, a candidate can find a single fortnight in winter carrying both the mock papers and the point at which a predicted grade is finalised. That is a scheduling fact worth knowing before it arrives.

There is also variation that confuses families who compare notes across the emirate. Two Diploma schools a short drive apart can mock six weeks apart, use different past papers, and apply the criteria with different severity. A mock 5 at one school and a mock 5 at another are not the same statement about a candidate. The only way to read a mark is against the script and the mark scheme behind it, which is why this page keeps returning to the script.

The practical consequence is a short list of questions to ask the school: which session's papers were used, whether the marking was moderated across teachers, how the mark maps to a grade boundary, and when the predicted grade is finalised. Most schools answer all four readily. Very few parents ask.

Reading a marked script: the four causes behind almost every lost mark

  • Command-term mismatch: right content, wrong question answered
  • Method presentation: no working, early rounding, missing units or labels
  • Genuine content gap: narrow and nameable, and the most expensive to close
  • Pacing: marks lost to unattempted questions, visible only in the script

Once you read a mock script against the mark scheme, lost marks sort themselves into four buckets with striking consistency. The first is command-term mismatch: the candidate answered a different question from the one asked. Explain answered as describe, evaluate answered as outline, justify answered as state. The content is right and the credit is not available. This is the largest bucket in the sciences and in Biology above all, and it is the cheapest to fix because it is a vocabulary and habit repair rather than a knowledge one.

The second is presentation in method-marked questions. A correct final answer with no visible method, a value rounded two steps before the end, a missing unit on a rate, an unlabelled axis. In Mathematics and Physics this bucket routinely holds more marks than any genuine content gap. It responds to drilling within two or three sessions and then needs maintaining, because it is a habit and habits regress under exam pressure.

The third is the genuine content gap, and it is usually smaller than families fear and more specific than they expect. Not Chemistry, but equilibrium constants and the direction of shift. Not Mathematics HL, but the Paper 3 investigative structure. A content gap is the most expensive bucket in hours, which is exactly why it should be identified precisely rather than treated as the default explanation for a disappointing mark.

The fourth is pacing: marks lost to questions never attempted. This bucket is invisible in a grade and obvious in a script, and it is diagnosed by looking at where in the paper the blank space starts. A candidate who loses eight marks at the end of Paper 2 has a timing problem, and timing problems are solved with timed practice and a question order strategy, not with more content teaching. Misreading this bucket as a content gap is the most common and most expensive error in mock-season tutoring.

03

From mocks to the May session: the evidence a family should be able to see

If tutoring is working, it produces artefacts. Not a feeling that things are better, but a sequence of marked pieces with dates on them, each showing something the previous one did not. That is the standard this page is built to, and it is the standard a family should hold any tutor to, because it is the only one that survives a disappointing result in May without an argument about what was promised.

The sequence has a predictable shape. Week one is the mock script read in full and a written list of marks lost by cause. Weeks two and three attack the largest bucket, usually command terms or method presentation, with short question sets marked each time. Week four is a timed section under exam conditions, which either confirms the repair held or shows it did not. From there the cycle repeats against the next bucket, with a full timed paper roughly monthly.

What makes this an evidence trail rather than a schedule is that each marked piece is kept and compared. A candidate who lost eleven marks to command terms in the mock and two in a timed set six weeks later has moved, and the movement is countable. A candidate who lost eleven and then nine has not, and the plan was wrong, which is information worth having in February rather than in May.

Internal assessment drafts sit in the same log. The feedback given on each draft is recorded, with dates, so there is a clear account of what was advised and when the student acted on it. That record protects the student as well as the tutor: the work is demonstrably theirs, with feedback on it, which is exactly the position IB academic honesty rules require.

04

Mock marks and predicted grades: what connects, and what does not

A predicted grade is issued by the subject teacher and the school, not by the IB and not by a tutor. It is a professional judgement about the grade a candidate is likely to achieve, and mock marks are an important input to it alongside classwork, internal assessment progress and the teacher's reading of trajectory. Understanding that order of authority prevents the most common mock-season mistake, which is treating a tutor as a route to a higher prediction.

What a tutor can legitimately do is improve the evidence a teacher is looking at. A candidate who produces a marked timed paper three weeks after a weak mock, showing component-level movement, has given their teacher something concrete to weigh. A candidate who tells their teacher they have started tutoring has given them nothing. The difference is artefacts, and that is the whole argument for an evidence-led plan rather than a reassurance-led one.

It is also worth being clear about direction of travel. Predicted grades in the Diploma are commonly set at or slightly above current performance because they describe an expected end point, and schools vary in how conservative they are. A family who believes a prediction is unreasonably low should ask what evidence it rests on and what evidence would change it, in writing. That is a legitimate question and most coordinators will answer it.

Finally, no page in this market should publish a figure for how much tutoring moves a grade. There is no dataset behind such a number, and a statistic without a sample, a date and a method is a liability rather than a credential. What we will say is specific and checkable: the repairs identified from a marked script are countable, the follow-up marked pieces either show fewer of those errors or they do not, and the family sees both.

05

Where mock marks are lost, by subject group

  • Group 4: data handling, uncertainty discussion and command terms outrank content gaps
  • Group 5 AA: Paper 3 structure at HL and unjustified steps in proof
  • Group 5 AI: statistical conclusions written without significance or context
  • Groups 1-3: structure, comparison and evaluation marks left unclaimed

In Group 5, Mathematics losses split by course. Analysis and Approaches candidates lose most heavily in Paper 3 at HL, where sustained investigative reasoning is required, and in proof questions where a result is asserted rather than derived. Applications and Interpretation candidates lose in statistical interpretation, choosing a test correctly and then writing a conclusion that never references the significance level or the context. Across both, method presentation accounts for a steady band of marks no content teaching touches.

In Group 4, the sciences share a pattern: strong recall, weak data handling. Chemistry scripts show uncertainty calculated but not propagated or discussed; Physics scripts show equations applied without the reasoning line the mark scheme credits; Biology scripts show accurate content answered to the wrong command term. Experimental-design questions reward naming a controlled variable and explaining why it matters, and candidates routinely do the first half only.

In Groups 1 and 2, the language subjects lose marks on structure rather than content. Paper 1 responses identify techniques and never connect them to effect; Paper 2 responses discuss two works in sequence instead of comparing them. In Group 3, Economics loses diagram and evaluation marks, History loses provenance and comparative-structure marks, and Business Management loses application marks where a tool is named but never pointed at the stimulus.

None of this is a substitute for reading one candidate's script. It is a prior: the places to look first. The reason it is useful is that it shortens the diagnostic session from an exploration to a check, which means the first paid hour produces a plan rather than a conversation.

06

Internal assessment in mock season: the boundary a tutor works inside

Mock fortnight almost always collides with an internal assessment deadline, and that collision is where academic-honesty questions arise. The boundary is not ambiguous. A tutor may teach the skills an internal assessment requires, explain the published criteria, discuss a student's own draft, point out where a method is unclear or a conclusion unsupported, and model the technique on a different example. A tutor may not write, complete or produce any part of the student's work, and may not edit it to a finished state.

That boundary is stated to students in the first session and recorded in the feedback log, because the protection runs both ways. An IB malpractice finding falls on the candidate, not on the tutor, and a student who can show a dated sequence of their own drafts with feedback on each is in a far stronger position than one who cannot. Sites in this market sell completed internal assessments; one advertises them at a fixed price. That is an integrity breach and we name it as one.

Practically, in mock season this means feedback is given against the criterion letters and their descriptors rather than as line edits. A Chemistry candidate is told that the evaluation criterion requires a discussion of specific limitations with their impact on the conclusion, and that their draft lists limitations without impact. They then write the improvement. That is slower than having it written for them and it is the only version that is theirs.

On materials: syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the IB and the examination boards. We reference and link them rather than reproducing them, and a tutor asking a family to download a mark scheme from a file-sharing site is a warning sign rather than a service.

07

What a mock-season block costs in Abu Dhabi, and what the travel premium buys

Start with the premium, because it is the clearest number in this market. In-home one-to-one tuition in the emirate is quoted at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour by Bestimate and at AED 200 to AED 500 by independent home tutors, with advertised monthly packages of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions against AED 799 for eight online sessions. The gap between those two packages is not teaching quality. It is a journey across Abu Dhabi twice, priced per hour, and in a mock-season block it is money that could have bought four more marked papers.

Working from the published hourly rates: budget online tuition runs from AED 33 to AED 65, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65. Qualified subject tutors online sit between AED 150 and AED 300, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above per Bestimate's Dubai rate table, with TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes.

For a mock-season plan, the shape of the spend matters more than the rate. A single script-review session per subject is a small, bounded purchase that tells you whether more is needed. A mock-to-session block of one weekly hour per subject across the spring is a larger but still predictable commitment with a fixed end. What inflates the total is buying three subjects at specialist rates when the scripts show that two of them have pacing problems that one session each would fix.

IB Gram does not publish a price on this page, because the figure depends on subject, level and how many marked pieces the plan needs. The route is a free trial lesson, on the condition that it is a single lesson, followed by a consultation. What we will not do is quote a per-hour rate before anybody has read a script.

How sessions run, ADEK schools, and what we hand back

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, with screen sharing, a shared whiteboard and the marked script open during the session. Gulf Standard Time lessons are scheduled around the Abu Dhabi school week: late afternoon for island and Saadiyat families, 5pm or later where the Khalifa City or Al Raha school run is long, and weekend blocks where mock fortnight has filled the weekday evenings. During Ramadan sessions move to post-Iftar timing.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. In mock season the online format has a specific operational advantage: a script marked on Tuesday can be read with the student on Wednesday, because there is no travel to schedule. That turnaround is the difference between a diagnostic conversation the candidate remembers writing and one they do not.

On the school side, private schools in Abu Dhabi are overseen by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Dubai's regulator is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Sharjah's is the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and a teacher tutoring privately needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, granted free of charge for two years. This is press-reported and worth verifying against the current policy, but the implication is plain: do not buy lessons from your child's own teacher.

What a family receives is the record: marked scripts, component breakdowns, a dated feedback log for internal assessment drafts, and a short written note after each marked piece saying what moved. Where no specialist is free for a subject at the hours needed, we say so and offer a different slot, a later start or a referral rather than filling the hour.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Mock windows and school runs do not coordinate, and in Abu Dhabi the second of those varies sharply by community. These notes are about when a session can realistically sit during a mock fortnight.

Saadiyat Island

Short school runs and a small DP cohort, so a 4pm session the day after a mock paper is workable. That proximity to the mock itself is the single biggest factor in whether a script gets read while the candidate still remembers writing it.

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

Established island communities feeding several Diploma schools, with manageable commutes and a high concentration of HL science candidates. Mock weeks here often coincide with university application deadlines, which doubles the week's load.

Khalifa City

A long school run in term time, which pushes sessions to 5pm or later and makes weekend script reviews the practical option. Families here benefit most from marking turned around overnight rather than at the next lesson.

Al Raha and Al Bandar

Close to the Khalifa City cluster and generating heavy demand for HL Chemistry and Physics support in the winter mock window. Two shorter weekday sessions tend to survive mock fortnight better than one long block.

Yas Island and West Yas

A newer and growing DP population with a slow afternoon commute. Candidates here often want a session between the last mock paper and the first internal assessment deadline, which lands in the same fortnight.

Al Reem Island

Dense apartment living with short travel and the easiest weekday scheduling in the emirate. The constraint is a quiet room rather than the clock, which matters when a session involves reading a script aloud.

Al Ain

An hour inland with a small Diploma cohort and few HL subject specialists physically present. For an Al Ain candidate wanting a marked Physics HL paper read the day after a mock, live video is the only route that exists.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island and Saadiyat Diploma schools

Smaller DP cohorts where a single subject may run one HL class, so a candidate struggling in HL Chemistry has limited internal comparison. Mock scripts matter more here because there is less cohort data around them.

  • Al Bateen Academy
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas corridor

The largest Diploma population in the emirate and the heaviest mock-season demand for HL sciences and Mathematics AA. Mock windows differ by several weeks between schools in this corridor, which surprises families comparing notes.

  • Raha International School
  • GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • Al Yasmina Academy

Mainland and Al Ain

A wider geography with fewer Diploma schools and thinner local specialist supply. Candidates here are the most likely to be sitting a mock in a subject nobody nearby teaches at HL.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the marked script

Not the report and not the grade. The marked paper, with the mark scheme if the school released it, and the component breakdown if there is one. Everything in the first session is built from that document, and without it the session is a conversation rather than a diagnosis.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson spent on the script

One free trial lesson with the subject specialist, on the condition that it is a single lesson, used to read the script question by question with the candidate present. The output is a written list of marks lost by cause, which the family keeps whether or not anything further is booked.

  3. 03

Agree the first repair and how it will be tested

Pick the largest bucket, agree how many sessions it should take, and agree the timed piece that will show whether the repair held. Stating the test in advance is what makes the plan falsifiable, which is the point. If it does not hold, the diagnosis was wrong and we say so.

  4. 04

Weekly teaching with a dated evidence log

A fixed weekly slot per subject, each session anchored to a marked piece. Every marked item is logged with its date and its component breakdown, and after each one you get a short written note. The log is the deliverable as much as the teaching is.

Internal assessment feedback inside the boundary

Where internal assessment deadlines collide with mock season, feedback is given on the student's own draft against the published criteria and recorded with dates. We do not write, complete or produce the work. The dated record is also the student's protection if the authorship of their work is ever questioned.

    The honest fallback

If no specialist is free for your subject at the hours you need, we say so and offer a different slot, a later start or a referral elsewhere. HL science and Mathematics AA supply in Abu Dhabi is tightest in the winter mock window, which is exactly when it is asked for.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The script is the unit of work

Every plan starts from a marked paper read question by question, not from a syllabus checklist or a conversation about confidence. That produces a countable list of lost marks grouped by cause, which is the only version of a plan that can later be shown to have worked or not.

A dated evidence log, not a progress claim

Marked pieces are kept with their dates and component breakdowns, so movement is visible across at least three comparable items. No statistic about grade improvement appears anywhere on this page, because there is no dataset behind one and an unsourced number is a liability.

Clear about who sets a predicted grade

The subject teacher and the school do, informed by mocks, classwork and coursework progress. A tutor cannot change a prediction and should not imply otherwise. What marked work does is give the teacher better evidence to weigh, which is a real service described honestly.

Academic honesty as a working boundary

Feedback is given on the student's own draft against the published criteria and logged with dates. We do not write, complete or produce assessed work, and we link board and IB materials to their official sources rather than hosting them. One site in this market sells completed internal assessments outright.

Turnaround built for mock fortnight

Because lessons are online, a script marked on Tuesday can be read with the student on Wednesday. No travel is scheduled, so the review happens while the candidate still remembers the paper, which is when a diagnostic session is worth most.

No IB date published without a source

Session and results dates for the IB are not reproduced here, because the IB's own site could not be verified by automated checking for this project. Cambridge and Pearson dates on our pages are sourced and dated. For IB timings, confirm with your school's IB coordinator.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Who sets and marks my child's IB mock exams in Abu Dhabi?+

The school does, at every stage. It selects the papers, usually from previous sessions, sets the window, invigilates, and marks using the published assessment criteria as its teachers read them. The IB runs no part of a mock and no mock mark appears on a certificate. That is why the useful questions go to the subject teacher: which session's papers were used, whether marking was moderated across teachers, and which grade boundaries were applied to convert the raw mark into a 1-7 grade.

Why do two Abu Dhabi IB schools run mocks weeks apart?+

Because mock windows are set locally, and most schools in the emirate time them against university application deadlines rather than against the exam calendar. One school may want predicted grades finalised early for overseas applications while another runs mocks later to give candidates more teaching first. The practical effect is that mock marks from two schools are not directly comparable, and a family comparing notes with friends at a different school is comparing different papers marked to different internal standards.

What should I ask for after my child's mock results come out?+

The marked script, the raw mark, and the component breakdown, rather than just the grade on the report. A grade is a single number that supports no decision; a script shows where the marks went. Ask also which past papers were used and whether the marking was moderated. Most schools in the emirate provide all of this when asked directly, and it is the material any sensible tutoring plan is built from. Without the script, the first paid hour is spent guessing.

Can a tutor raise my child's predicted grade?+

No, and any page implying otherwise is misdescribing who holds the decision. A predicted grade is a professional judgement made by the subject teacher and the school, informed by mocks, classwork and coursework progress. What a tutor can do is produce better evidence for that judgement: a marked timed paper three weeks after a weak mock, showing component-level movement, is something a teacher can weigh. If you believe a prediction is unreasonably low, ask the school what evidence it rests on and what would change it.

My child's mock mark dropped but their classwork is fine. What does that mean?+

Usually a pacing or technique problem rather than a content one, and the script will show which. Look at where blank space starts: marks lost to unattempted questions at the end of a paper are a timing issue, solved with timed practice and a question-order strategy rather than more teaching. If the blanks are spread evenly and the attempted answers lose marks on command terms, it is a technique issue. Both are cheaper to fix than a content gap, and both are invisible in the grade.

How soon after the mock should the script be reviewed?+

Within days, while the candidate still remembers writing it. A student reading their own script a week later can usually explain their reasoning on every question; a month later they cannot, and the session becomes a lesson on the topic rather than a diagnosis of the error. Online delivery helps here for a straightforward reason: there is no travel to schedule, so a script marked on Tuesday can be read with the student on Wednesday evening.

What does a mock-season block cost in Abu Dhabi?+

Market rates for IB specialist tuition run AED 200 to AED 450 and above per hour, per Bestimate's Dubai rate table, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Unitors IB tuition from AED 200. Qualified subject tutors online sit between AED 150 and AED 300, and budget online options run from AED 33 to AED 65, per Tutopiya and EdFlik. A single script-review session per subject is a small bounded purchase; a weekly block to the May session is larger but predictable. Those are market figures, not an IB Gram price list.

Is it worth paying more for an in-home tutor during mocks?+

The premium is for the journey, not the marking. In-home one-to-one in the emirate is quoted at AED 180 to AED 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to AED 500 by independent home tutors, against advertised monthly packages of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 in-home versus AED 799 for eight online sessions. Across a spring block that difference buys several more marked papers. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case; home visits are a service we run only in India.

Can a tutor help with my child's internal assessment while mocks are running?+

Yes, within a boundary that is worth stating plainly. A tutor can teach the skills the task requires, explain the published criteria, discuss the student's own draft, point out an unclear method or an unsupported conclusion, and model technique on a different example. A tutor must not write, complete or produce any part of the work. Feedback is given against the criterion letters and logged with dates, which also gives the student a dated record that the work is demonstrably their own.

Will you send us the IB mark schemes used to mark the mock?+

No. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables and subject guides belong to the IB and the examination boards, and reproducing or distributing them is a copyright matter. We reference them and link to the official sources, and we work from material your school has legitimately released to your child, such as their own marked mock script. A tutor directing a family to a file-sharing site for mark schemes is a warning sign rather than a service.

How many sessions does a mock repair usually take per subject?+

It depends entirely on which bucket the marks fell into. A command-term or presentation habit typically takes two or three sessions to correct and then needs maintaining with short marked sets, because habits regress under pressure. A pacing problem can be largely addressed in one session plus timed practice the student does alone. A genuine content gap is the expensive case and is measured in weeks per topic. The marked script is what tells you which of the three you are buying.

Can my child get support in two HL subjects at once before the May session?+

Yes, and the sensible version uses two subject specialists rather than one generalist, with a shared evidence log so the family has a single record. The constraint is the candidate's capacity to absorb marked feedback while school continues, and Abu Dhabi DP students also carry Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies lessons alongside the Diploma. Two subjects at one weekly hour each, with marked sets between, is usually sustainable; four is usually not, and saying so early avoids a plan that collapses in February.

What happens if the first diagnosis from the script turns out to be wrong?+

We say so and change the plan. That is why each repair is agreed with a stated test attached: a timed piece that will show whether the error frequency fell. If a candidate lost eleven marks to command terms in the mock and nine in a comparable timed set six weeks later, the repair did not hold and the approach needs replacing, not repeating. Finding that out in February is useful; finding it out in May is not. The evidence log exists precisely to make that visible.

Which IB session will my child sit, and when do results arrive?+

Abu Dhabi Diploma candidates normally sit the May session. This page deliberately publishes no IB exam or results dates, because the IB's own site could not be verified by automated checking for this project and a wrong date is the one error a family acts on. Confirm the session, the internal upload deadlines and the results date with your school's IB coordinator or on the IB's own assessment pages. Cambridge and Pearson dates elsewhere on our site are sourced and carry their reference.

Send the script, then decide

The most useful thing a family can do after mock results is unglamorous: get hold of the marked script, the raw mark and the component breakdown, and have somebody read them question by question with the candidate present. That single hour sorts the lost marks into command terms, presentation, content and pacing, and those four have very different costs. Book a free trial lesson with the subject specialist, spend it on the script, and keep the written marks-lost list whether or not you book anything further. The plan after that is weekly teaching against a dated evidence log you can actually check.
