IGCSE Mock Exam Preparation in Abu Dhabi

IGCSE mock exam preparation in Abu Dhabi is usually bought in a panic and priced badly. A mock week in this emirate is less a rehearsal than a decision point: it is the evidence your school uses to fix Core or Extended tier before its entry deadline. This page prices the whole spend stack in AED, names what pushes the figure up here, and sets out the six weeks afterwards. Lessons are one-to-one over live video.

  • Every AED figure a published market rate with the publisher named
  • Tier decision treated as the real purpose of a mock, not a side note
  • Six-week post-mock plan costed week by week before you commit

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Price the whole stack, not the hourly rate

Almost every family who searches for IGCSE mock exam preparation in Abu Dhabi has just received a mark they did not expect, and almost every one of them asks the wrong first question. The question is not what a tutor charges per hour. It is what the total looks like between now and the entry deadline, because that is the sum that lands on a household budget, and because the hourly rate is the smallest of the variables that determines it.

Here is the stack as it actually appears. School fees, already committed, which in Dubai have been held flat for 2026-27 under a decision KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026. Then tuition, which the market prices at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor online and AED 200 to AED 450 and above for an exam-year specialist, per Bestimate's Dubai rate table, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase AED 270. Then, if the tier question goes the wrong way or a grade needs repairing, a resit entry, whose fee is set by the centre and not by us. Then any materials the school does not supply. The decision parents think they are making is about the second line. The one that moves the total most is often the third.

What pushes the figure up in this emirate specifically is a combination of timing and supply. Mock windows in Abu Dhabi schools cluster in a short band, so demand for Extended-tier mathematics and science support spikes in the same three weeks every year. At the same time, a mock mark sits immediately before the centre's internal entry cut-off, which means a family often has a fortnight to decide whether to buy support, change tier, or both. Decisions made in a fortnight are expensive decisions.

The other thing that moves the number is format. In-home one-to-one in the emirate is quoted at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour by Bestimate and AED 200 to AED 500 by independent home tutors, with advertised monthly packages of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions against AED 799 for eight online sessions. The difference between those two packages is a car crossing Abu Dhabi, priced per hour. Across a six-week post-mock block it is a meaningful share of the total and it reaches nothing on the mark scheme.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons over live video. We do not send a tutor to a UAE address; home visits are a service we offer only in India. On a mock-season booking that is also the practical answer to supply, because the pool of Extended-tier specialists available to a family in Al Shamkha or Al Ain is otherwise whoever can drive there on a Tuesday.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A mock has a different meaning at each stage, and so does the money spent after it. These are the stages Abu Dhabi families are usually in when a mock mark triggers a conversation about cost.

LSECAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

Internal assessment weeks at this stage carry no certificate and no entry consequence, which makes them the cheapest useful data a family will ever get. Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October and are diagnostic. Money spent here on algebraic fluency and written explanation costs a fraction of money spent on the same gap two years later under an entry deadline.

Abu Dhabi schools on the Cambridge pathway typically use Year 9 internal data to stream for IGCSE tier. That is the quiet decision point most families miss, and it is far cheaper to influence with evidence in Year 9 than to contest in Year 11 with a mock mark in hand.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Examined in June and November, with Core and Extended tiers in subjects including Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625 and Chemistry 0620. The Year 11 mock is where the tier question gets settled, because the centre needs a decision before its internal cut-off. The cost consequence is real: a Core entry caps the grade and a wrongly optimistic Extended entry risks a lower grade than a Core one would have produced.

In Abu Dhabi the entry is made by the centre, which for nearly all candidates is the school. Each centre sets its own internal cut-off before the board's deadline, and the school's willingness to revisit a tier decision after mocks varies widely across the emirate. Ask the exams officer, in writing, what the cut-off is.

IG-EDXAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Available in May/June and November, with codes such as 4MA1 and 4PH1. Some Pearson qualifications are modular, which changes the economics after a weak mock: a candidate may be able to bank or re-sit one paper rather than an entire qualification, and the resit cost drops accordingly. Whether that route applies is a question for the centre.

The November 2026 Pearson final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, with November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026. For an Abu Dhabi family weighing a June entry against a November one after poor mocks, those are the dates the budget has to clear.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level

The reason tier matters financially. Abu Dhabi sixth forms publish their own entry grades and several specify tier as well as grade, so a Core entry can close a route that then costs a resit to reopen. Spending on Extended-tier support before the entry deadline is usually cheaper than spending on a November resit after it.

Where a sixth-form place depends on a grade not yet achieved, the November series becomes the fallback and the result arrives in January. Families should factor the cost of holding a place, or of a delayed start, into the comparison rather than treating the resit entry fee as the whole expense.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What a mock paper reveals, subject by subject, and how expensive each revelation is to act on. A technique gap is a small purchase; a tier mismatch is a large one.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended

The mock subject where the tier question is sharpest. A candidate who scores respectably on the Extended paper but leaves the final unstructured questions blank has a technique and pacing issue worth a handful of sessions. One who cannot attempt the algebraic fraction questions at all has a content gap that is expensive this late.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Mock scripts here separate cleanly into two groups: candidates losing marks on electricity and electromagnetism, which takes weeks, and candidates losing them on graph work and anomalous results, which takes a session or two. The mark total looks identical for both, which is why the script decides the spend.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Moles and stoichiometry under time pressure is the recurring mock failure, and it is cheap to repair because it is arithmetic fluency rather than concept. Qualitative analysis tables are cheaper still, being memorisation. Organic conditions sit in between. None of these justifies a term-long programme.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

The subject where a mock mark most often understates a candidate. Accurate answers written to the wrong command word earn knowledge credit only, and the fix is a short, specific habit change. Families who buy a term of Biology teaching after a weak mock frequently buy the wrong thing.

Additional Mathematics / Further Pure

Extended only

Taken by candidates heading for A Level Mathematics, and the one subject where a weak mock sometimes argues for withdrawing the entry rather than buying support. That is a cheaper and more honest answer than funding an uphill term, and it is worth raising with the school.

English as a Second Language

Core and Extended

The summary task is where mock marks disappear, through copying rather than compressing, and the directed-writing task through ignoring the register the prompt specifies. Both are inexpensive to fix and respond inside a handful of marked attempts.

First Language English

Extended

Marked on reading as much as on writing, and mock scripts commonly show a candidate retelling a passage instead of using it as evidence. A composition that runs long without a controlled structure loses structure marks regardless of quality of expression.

Economics and Business Studies

Core and Extended

Data-response questions carry the grade and mock candidates lose them on application, defining a term correctly and never pointing it at the stimulus. This is a low-cost repair and a high-yield one, which makes it a good first purchase after a disappointing mark.

Computer Science

Core and Extended

Mock marks concentrate in the written conventions rather than in programming ability: trace tables, pseudocode style, and the precise vocabulary of data representation. A capable coder can lose a grade band here, and it is among the cheapest gaps in the subject list to close.

Arabic and UAE social studies alongside IGCSE

School-set

These subjects are taught in UAE private schools alongside the licensed international curriculum and they keep running through mock season. Any costed revision plan has to treat those lessons as fixed load, because a plan that assumes they can be set aside overstates the hours a candidate actually has.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to spend after a mock, with very different totals. The right choice follows from the script, not from the size of the disappointment.

Single diagnostic session

One session per subject spent entirely on the marked mock paper, producing a written list of marks lost by cause and a straight answer on the tier question. This is the smallest purchase available and frequently the only one needed, because a mock mark that looked alarming often turns out to be a command-word habit rather than a content gap.

  • Priced as a single session, with no programme attached
  • Written marks-lost list the family keeps regardless
  • Explicit recommendation on Core or Extended entry
  • A clear statement if nothing further is worth buying

Six-week post-mock block

One or two subjects, one to two sessions a week, running from the mock to the centre's entry cut-off and on towards the series. Costed as a known total at the start because the week count is fixed. This is the standard shape where a mock showed a genuine but narrow content gap.

  • Total stated at the outset rather than billed open-endedly
  • Marked timed set every second or third session
  • Topic order set by the mock script, not by the syllabus order
  • Reviewed at week three against the marked evidence

November contingency plan

Where the mock makes a June grade unlikely, the cheaper answer is often to plan for the November series rather than to buy an intensive spring. Entries are made by the centre, results reach students in January, and the preparation block is shorter and better targeted than a panicked June push.

  • Compares the cost of a spring intensive against a November block honestly
  • Plan built backwards from the centre's internal entry cut-off
  • Clear note that November results arrive in January, not December
  • Resit entry fees confirmed with the centre before anything is agreed

01

The whole spend stack after a weak mock, in AED

Almost nobody in this market shows a parent the full cost of acting on a mock result, which is strange, because it is the only figure that answers the question actually being asked. The stack has four lines. School fees are already committed, and in Dubai they have been held flat for 2026-27 under a decision KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026, part of an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Tuition is the line families focus on. Resit entry fees, set by the centre, are the line that moves the total most when a tier decision goes wrong. Materials are small but not nothing.

Tuition prices out as follows, from published market sources. Budget online tuition runs AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65. A qualified subject tutor online sits between AED 150 and AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Exam-year and IGCSE specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, per Bestimate's rate table, with TutorChase at AED 270; premium named tutors reach AED 650, as BartyED publishes. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are AED 240 to AED 600 budget, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

The entry line is the one to establish early, because it is set by the centre and not published anywhere a search will find. Exam centres in the emirate publish their own fee schedules and revise them between series, so the correct action is to ask your school's exams officer, or an external centre, for the current schedule in writing. A family that budgets for tuition and forgets the entry fee discovers it at the worst possible moment, which is after the tier decision has been made.

Put those lines next to each other and the arithmetic usually points the same way: the cheapest intervention after a mock is the one that prevents a resit. A single diagnostic session that settles the tier question correctly is a smaller number than a term of teaching, and a much smaller number than a term of teaching followed by a November entry.

The mock is the tier decision, and the tier decision carries the grade ceiling

Families tend to read a mock as a rehearsal. Schools read it as evidence for an entry decision, and that difference explains most of the frustration in the fortnight afterwards. In tiered subjects, the centre must submit each candidate at Core or Extended, and once the entry is made the tier is fixed. Core carries a lower grade ceiling; Extended carries a higher one and assumes algebraic and analytical fluency that the Core papers never test. The mock is the last substantial piece of evidence before that submission.

Getting it wrong is expensive in both directions. A candidate entered at Core who was capable of Extended has a capped grade that may close a sixth-form route, and reopening it means a resit entry in a later series. A candidate entered at Extended who was not ready can score below what a Core entry would have produced, because the Extended paper allocates marks to content they never reached. Neither outcome is fixed by more teaching after the entry closes.

The right way to settle it is a full Extended paper, sat under timed conditions and marked strictly, read against the grade boundary the school used for the mock. That gives three usable facts: the raw mark, where the marks were lost, and how far the candidate sits from the boundary that matters. A conversation about confidence gives none of them, and a tutor's opinion offered without a marked paper is worth exactly as much.

One practical note: schools differ considerably in how willing they are to revisit a tier decision after mocks, and some have already submitted by the time mock marks are released. The question to ask the exams officer is simple and should be asked in writing before the mock, not after: when is the internal cut-off, and will a mock result change a tier entry?

03

What a mock percentage does not tell you about a grade

  • Grade boundaries are set per series after the papers are sat, and they move between series
  • A mock grade depends on which historical boundaries the school chose to apply
  • Ask for the raw mark and the component breakdown, not just the converted grade
  • A gap of a few marks is a cheap fix; a gap of a whole band may not be

Mock marks arrive as percentages and get read as grades, and the translation is where most families go wrong. Grade boundaries are set per series by the board, after the papers have been sat, and they move. A school marking a mock has to pick boundaries from somewhere, usually a previous series, and that choice can shift a candidate a whole band either way. A mock percentage is therefore a position relative to one set of historical boundaries, not a prediction.

This matters commercially because the size of a perceived gap drives the size of the spend. A parent told their child is two grades off will buy more than a parent told they are four marks below a boundary, and those can be the same script. Asking the school which boundaries it applied, and what the raw mark was, converts a frightening grade into an arithmetic question. Frequently the answer is that a handful of marks are in play, and a handful of marks is a cheap purchase.

The second translation problem is component weighting. A candidate can score poorly overall while performing adequately on the paper that carries the most marks, or the reverse, and the overall percentage conceals both. Where a school releases a component breakdown, that is the document worth reading. Where it does not, ask for it; most will provide it when the request is specific.

None of this means a mock is unreliable. It means a mock is a measurement with a known error bar, and the correct response is proportionate rather than panicked. Boards publish grade thresholds for past series on their own sites, and reading your child's raw mark against those is a free and more informative exercise than most things a family could buy that week.

04

The six weeks after a mock, costed week by week

A post-mock plan should be bounded, and the easiest way to bound it is to write it against the centre's internal entry cut-off. Six weeks is the usual gap between a mock result and the point where the tier and subject list are fixed, and six weeks of one subject at one session a week is a number a family can see the whole of before agreeing to it. Open-ended arrangements are where the cost gets away from people.

Week one is diagnostic and nothing else: the marked paper read question by question, the raw mark set against the boundary the school used, and a written answer on the tier question. Weeks two and three take the largest cluster of lost marks, with a short marked set each week to confirm the diagnosis was right. Week four is a timed section under exam conditions, which either shows the repair held or shows it did not.

Weeks five and six do one of two things depending on that result. If the repair held, they attack the second cluster and finish with a full timed paper. If it did not, they change approach rather than repeating it, because repeating an approach that failed is the most expensive thing on this page. Either way the family ends the six weeks with marked evidence rather than an impression, and a defensible answer to the tier question.

The figures below use the mid-market monthly estimate of AED 600 to AED 1,200 for one subject at weekly sessions and the specialist band of AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above, both from Bestimate's Dubai rate table. They are market rates rather than an IB Gram price list. Our route is a free trial lesson, on the condition that it is a single lesson, followed by a consultation where the subject, the tier and the cut-off date are established before any hours are quoted.

Where IGCSE mock marks actually go, paper by paper

  • Mathematics: algebraic fractions, bounds, 3-D trigonometry, unstructured final questions
  • Physics: electricity, electromagnetism, circuit diagrams, anomalous-result reasoning
  • Chemistry: moles under time pressure, exact organic conditions, analysis tables
  • Written subjects: application to the stimulus, command words, and controlled structure

In Mathematics the losses are predictable enough to check before you look. Algebraic fractions, upper and lower bounds, three-dimensional trigonometry and the unstructured questions at the end of the Extended paper. Beneath those sits a steady band of presentation marks: no method line on a method-marked question, a value rounded two steps early, a missing unit on a rate or density answer. That band is usually worth more than families expect and costs very little to recover.

In Physics, electricity and electromagnetism take the largest share, and practical-skills questions take the next. An ammeter drawn in the wrong branch, an anomalous point identified without a reason, a relationship described as increasing rather than named as proportional. In Chemistry, moles and stoichiometry dominate, with organic conditions and the qualitative-analysis tables following. In Biology the losses are almost entirely in command-word discipline and in answer length mismatched to mark allocation.

In the written subjects the pattern is structural. English candidates summarise where they were asked to use evidence. Economics and Business candidates define correctly and never apply to the stimulus. Computer Science candidates write good code and lose marks on trace tables and pseudocode conventions. Each of these is a narrow repair with a small price attached, which is precisely why reading the script first saves money.

The purpose of listing these is to make the first paid session efficient. A tutor who knows where to look turns a diagnostic hour into a plan; one who starts from the syllabus turns it into a conversation. That difference compounds over a six-week block.

06

Mock season and the entry clock: who holds which deadline

A mock mark only matters because of what it sits in front of. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, and the February/March series is offered to India only, so an Abu Dhabi candidate's realistic windows are summer and autumn. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Before each of those, a board deadline closes, and before the board's deadline the centre's internal cut-off closes. The second is the one that affects your family.

Entries are made by the centre, which for nearly every candidate is the school. The exams officer decides the internal cut-off, which subjects and option codes go on the entry, and at which tier. A parent cannot submit an entry directly. That makes the exams officer the most important person in the fortnight after mocks, and a written exchange with them more valuable than a week of revision.

There is one administrative detail specific to Cambridge that is almost never mentioned and occasionally costs a candidate an exam. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version, and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct version for the zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask the centre which zone it sits in before building a revision calendar.

If the mock makes a June grade unlikely, the November series is a genuine alternative rather than a failure. The papers are set to the same standard, the series is open to UAE candidates, and Pearson's record shows November results reaching students in January, with November 2025 results arriving on 22 January 2026. Weighing a cheaper, better-targeted November block against an expensive spring intensive is a legitimate budgeting decision and one almost nobody presents to parents.

07

Group class, tuition centre or one-to-one: what each price actually buys

  • Group class: cheapest per hour; cannot act on one candidate's script
  • Freelance tutor: widest price range; ask whether they mark to the mark scheme
  • Agency or platform: pays for matching and replacement; verify where delivery happens
  • Centre with premises: a different legal animal, requiring its own permit in Dubai

The market after mocks offers four models at four price points, and it is worth being clear about what distinguishes them, without naming or disparaging particular businesses. A tuition centre group class is the cheapest per hour because the cost is shared, and it works where a cohort has the same gap, which after mocks is rarely true: the whole point of a script is that two candidates with the same mark have different problems. Group teaching cannot act on a script.

A freelance independent tutor is next, and the range is wide because the category is wide. The published rates run from AED 33 an hour at the budget end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor, and the rate correlates loosely with whether the tutor marks to the mark scheme. The relevant question is not qualifications in the abstract but whether they will mark a paper and show you the breakdown.

An agency or platform sits above that, charging for matching, replacement and administration as well as teaching. Whether that is worth paying for depends on how much you value being able to change tutor without starting again, and on whether anyone verifies the tutor's marking. The category also includes operations that conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking number, which is worth checking rather than assuming.

The fourth model is a tuition operation with premises, which in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That is a specific permit issued to institutions with premises, and no tutoring business should describe itself as holding regulator status it does not. Separately, individual private tutors in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Asking a tutor whether they hold it is a reasonable question with a free answer.

08

How lessons run, and who regulates the school behind the mock

Lessons are one-to-one over live video, with screen sharing and the marked mock script open during the session. Gulf Standard Time lessons are set around the Abu Dhabi school week: late afternoon where the school run is short, 5pm or later for the Khalifa City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City catchments, and weekend blocks where weekday evenings are already committed. During Ramadan the same sessions move to post-Iftar timing without changing the plan.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. The cost argument for online delivery is on this page in numbers rather than adjectives: in-home rates in the emirate are quoted at AED 180 to AED 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to AED 500 by independent home tutors, and the advertised in-home monthly package sits at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 against AED 799 online. Across six weeks that gap buys several marked papers.

Private schools in Abu Dhabi are overseen by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Dubai's regulator is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Sharjah's is the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so regulator powers vary by emirate.

One caution that applies directly here. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and a teacher tutoring outside school hours needs the MoHRE permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. This is press-reported and worth verifying against the current policy document. The practical point stands: the teacher who marked the mock is not the person to buy lessons from.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

Cost is partly geography. Where a family lives in Abu Dhabi determines how long the school run takes, which determines how many usable session slots exist in a week, which determines whether a six-week plan is realistic at all.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

A large mainland catchment with a wide fee spread and a long drive to the island. The in-home travel premium bites hardest here, and families in this community see the largest saving from moving a post-mock block online rather than buying visits.

Khalifa City and Al Shamkha

Villa catchments feeding several British-curriculum schools, where the term-time school run can add forty minutes each way. Weekday sessions realistically start at 5pm or later, which caps a six-week plan at two weekday slots plus a weekend block.

Al Reem Island

Short commutes and dense apartment living, so three shorter weekday sessions are feasible where a villa family can manage two. For a candidate whose mock showed a pacing problem, frequent short timed sets beat long weekend sessions.

Al Raha and Al Bandar

Adjacent to the Khalifa City school cluster and one of the heaviest sources of Extended-tier science demand in the weeks after mocks. Slot availability here is tightest in the same fortnight every year, which is a cost in itself.

Saadiyat Island

The shortest school runs in the capital, which makes earlier weekday sessions possible and lets a post-mock plan run to three sessions a week without eating the evening. Smaller cohorts mean less internal comparison for a candidate judging a mock mark.

Baniyas and Al Wathba

Fewer international-curriculum schools nearby and a longer commute to those that exist. For a family here, the choice between an in-home visit and an online session is not marginal: travel is the dominant cost in any in-home quote.

Al Ain

Same emirate authority, an hour inland, and a thin local pool of IGCSE specialists. A family in Al Ain comparing in-home quotes after a weak mock is usually comparing availability rather than expertise, which is the problem online delivery removes.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas corridor

The largest IGCSE population in the emirate and the source of most post-mock demand. Tier policies after mocks vary noticeably between schools in this corridor, so two families comparing notes may be describing different entry rules rather than different children.

  • Yasmina British Academy
  • Reach British School
  • West Yas Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi

Island, Saadiyat and Al Bateen

Smaller year groups with shorter commutes and longer admission waiting lists. A mock mark here is interpreted against a small cohort, which can make a mid-table result look worse or better than it is.

  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Al Mushrif Academy

Mainland Abu Dhabi and Al Ain

A broad fee range and fewer specialists physically present, so this is where published in-home rates and actual availability diverge most. Families here most often discover that the quoted rate was never the binding constraint.

  • Emirates National Schools
  • Cambridge High School Abu Dhabi
  • Liwa International School
  • Al Dhafra Private Schools
  • Al Ain English Speaking School

Schools are listed as context for the ADEK private schools environment in which Abu Dhabi candidates sit mocks; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership is implied, and current inspection outcomes should be read on the regulator's own listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Get the three documents

The marked mock paper, the raw mark with the component breakdown, and the centre's internal entry cut-off date in writing. Those three determine both the plan and its cost. A family that has all three before the first paid session buys considerably less than one that has none of them.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson spent on the script

One free trial lesson with the subject specialist, on the condition that it is a single lesson, used to read the mock paper question by question and set the raw mark against the boundary the school applied. You keep the written marks-lost list and the tier recommendation whether or not you book further.

  3. 03

Agree a bounded total, not an open arrangement

Sessions per week, number of weeks to the cut-off, and the total at the market rate stated up front. A post-mock plan has a natural end point, so there is no reason for it to be open-ended. If the honest estimate says the gap is too large for the weeks available, we say that instead of selling the hours.

  4. 04

    Weekly teaching with marked checks

A fixed weekly slot, each session anchored to a marked piece rather than to a topic list, with a short marked set between sessions and a timed section at the halfway point. After each marked item you get the breakdown and a short written note of what moved.

  5. 05

A written tier recommendation before the cut-off

By week four you get a plain statement, in writing, of what the marked evidence supports at Core or Extended, with the raw marks behind it. You can hand that to the exams officer. The entry decision remains the centre's and we do not present it as ours.

  6. 06

    The honest fallback

If no specialist is free for your subject at the hours you need, we say so and offer a different slot, a later start or a referral elsewhere. The weeks after mock results are the single tightest period of the year for Extended-tier science supply in this emirate.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The whole stack, not the hourly rate

This page prices school fees already committed, tuition, the resit entry fee set by the centre and the materials, because that is the sum a household actually faces. Three of the six pages ranking in this market publish no price at all, and two quote US dollars to UAE parents.

The tier decision treated as the point

A mock exists to inform an entry decision with a deadline attached, and that decision carries the grade ceiling. We give a written recommendation backed by raw marks before the centre's cut-off, and we are explicit that the entry belongs to the centre rather than to us.

A bounded total agreed up front

Post-mock plans have a natural end point, so the number of weeks and the total are stated before anything starts. If the marked evidence says the gap is too large for the weeks available, the honest answer is a November entry rather than an expensive spring.

Every figure traceable

AED bands here come from Bestimate's Dubai rate table and from published competitor rates, each with the publisher named and the month it was read. We publish no IB Gram price list on this page because the figure depends on subject, tier and weeks remaining.

Academic honesty stated as a limit

A tutor teaches, marks and gives feedback on the student's own work. We do not produce coursework, and syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes belong to Cambridge and Pearson, so we link them rather than hosting them. Some sites in this market sell the opposite outright.

Regulator facts, correctly attributed

ADEK supervises private school licensing in Abu Dhabi, KHDA in Dubai, SPEA in Sharjah and the Ministry of Education in three further emirates. We name what each does and link the source. ADEK appears on none of the competitor pages researched for this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

My child's IGCSE mock mark was low. What should I buy first?+

One diagnostic session on the marked paper, and nothing else until it is done. A mock mark is a single number that supports no decision, while the script shows whether the marks went on command words, method presentation, a genuine content gap or questions never attempted. Those four have completely different costs, and the most common expensive mistake is buying a term of teaching for what turns out to be a technique habit. Ask the school for the marked paper, the raw mark and the component breakdown first.

Does the mock decide whether my child sits Core or Extended?+

It is the main evidence for that decision, and the decision is made by the centre in the entry rather than in the exam hall. Core carries a lower grade ceiling; Extended carries the full range and assumes algebraic fluency the Core papers never test. The useful test is a full Extended paper sat under timed conditions and marked strictly against the boundary the school applied. Ask the exams officer, in writing and before the mock, when the internal cut-off falls and whether a mock result can change a tier entry.

How much does post-mock IGCSE tutoring cost per month in Abu Dhabi?+

Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions at AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Advertised packages in the market sit at AED 799 per month for eight online sessions. Those are market figures rather than an IB Gram price list. The number that actually varies is the subject count, so settle that from the script before comparing quotes.

Why does a mock percentage not translate cleanly into a grade?+

Because grade boundaries are set per series by the board after the papers have been sat, and they move. A school marking a mock has to borrow boundaries from somewhere, usually a previous series, and that choice can shift a candidate a whole band. Ask which boundaries were applied and what the raw mark was. Frequently a frightening grade turns out to be a handful of marks below a threshold, which is a cheap problem rather than an expensive one.

Is a group class at a tuition centre good value after mocks?+

It is the cheapest option per hour because the cost is shared, and it works where a group has the same gap. After mocks that is rarely the case: the whole value of a script is that two candidates with identical marks usually have different problems, and group teaching cannot act on an individual script. Where a group class suits a family's budget, pair it with a single diagnostic session so at least the revision is pointed at the right thing.

What does an IGCSE resit entry cost in Abu Dhabi?+

The centre sets it, and centres revise their fee schedules between series, so no honest answer can be published on a page like this. Ask your school's exams officer, or the external centre you would use, for the current schedule in writing. The reason to do this early is that the entry fee belongs in the budget alongside tuition: a family that funds a spring of teaching and then meets the entry cost in the autumn has planned only half of the spend.

Should we give up on June and aim at November instead?+

It is a legitimate option rather than a defeat, and often the cheaper one. The November series is a full sitting examined to the same standard and open to UAE candidates, with Pearson's November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026. A better-targeted November block usually costs less than a panicked spring intensive and produces a stronger grade. The cost is a January result, which any sixth form or university holding a conditional place needs to be told about early and in writing.

Can my child's own teacher tutor them privately after mocks?+

In Abu Dhabi that is the wrong door to knock on. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and a teacher tutoring outside school hours needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. This is press-reported and worth verifying against the current policy, but the direction is clear enough that no family should be arranging it.

Does a private tutor in the UAE need a permit, and does it cost anything?+

A permit is required and it is free. Private tutoring is regulated through the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and official guidance states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

How many sessions does it take to recover a mock grade band?+

It depends which of the four causes the marks fell into, which is why the diagnostic comes first. A command-word or presentation habit is typically two or three sessions plus marked sets to maintain it. A pacing problem can be largely addressed in one session with timed practice done independently. A genuine content gap is measured in weeks per topic and is the only one that justifies a six-week block. Buying the block before the diagnosis is how families overspend.

What should I ask the school's exams officer after mock results?+

Five things, all short. When is the centre's internal entry cut-off. Which subjects and tiers are currently on the entry. Which grade boundaries were used to convert the mock marks. Whether a mock result can still change a tier decision. And which Cambridge administrative zone the centre sits in, because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six zones and states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for the zone. Ask by email so you have the answers in writing.

Is an in-home tutor worth the extra after a weak mock?+

The extra is the journey. In-home one-to-one in the emirate is quoted at AED 180 to AED 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to AED 500 by independent home tutors, and the advertised in-home monthly package runs AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 against AED 799 for eight online sessions. Over a six-week post-mock block that gap buys several marked papers. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case; home visits are a service we run only in India.

Can one tutor cover two subjects to keep the cost down?+

Sometimes, and it is a reasonable question to ask rather than a corner to cut. Where two subjects share a skill that is costing the marks, such as presentation discipline in Mathematics and Physics, one tutor can address both efficiently. Where the marks are going to subject-specific content, such as organic conditions in Chemistry, the saving disappears because the teaching has to be done by someone who marks that paper. Decide it from the two scripts rather than from the budget.

How quickly can sessions start after mock results are released?+

Usually within a few days, because delivery is online and there is no travel to arrange. The honest exception is the two or three weeks immediately after mock results in the emirate, when demand for Extended-tier Physics, Chemistry and Additional Mathematics peaks and a particular evening slot may not be free. Where that happens we say so and offer a different time, a later start or a referral rather than filling the hour with a tutor who cannot mark the paper.

Diagnose before you spend

A mock result is information, and information bought cheaply is worth more than teaching bought early. Get the marked paper, the raw mark and the component breakdown from the school, ask the exams officer for the internal entry cut-off in writing, then spend one session having the script read question by question. That hour tells you whether the gap is a habit, a timing problem or real content, and those three carry very different totals in AED. Book a free trial lesson with the subject specialist, keep the written marks-lost list, and agree a bounded plan only if the evidence says one is needed.
