IB Home Tutor in Al Riqqa

Most pages about hiring an IB home tutor in Al Riqqa avoid the number. This one leads with it. Al Riqqa sits at the Ajman end of Umm Al Quwain, and a family here can expect the published UAE market bands: AED 150 to 300 an hour online for a qualified subject tutor, AED 180 to 500 in-home with the drive inside the rate. IB Gram teaches over live video.

  • Every AED figure attributed to the provider or survey that published it
  • One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, recorded for revision

IB & IGCSE in Al Riqqa

The number first, then what it buys

Of the six competitor pages examined for this project in October 2026, three published no price at all, and one of those has a frequently asked question that asks what tutoring costs and then declines to answer it. Two of the remaining pages quote US dollars, a currency no household in Al Riqqa pays anything in. So the honest starting point for a page about hiring a Diploma tutor here is the figures, sourced, in dirhams, before any argument about quality.

Here they are. Budget online tutoring with a university-student tutor runs roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. An IB or IGCSE specialist runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 survey reaching 450 or more. An in-home one-to-one visit costs AED 180 to 500, Bestimate putting it at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500. Premium named tutors run AED 500 to 650 or above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Monthly is how a family actually budgets. Published package rates include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. None of these are IB Gram prices. They are the market, published by the parties named, and quoted here so you can argue with any quote you receive.

Now the part the market does not tell you: which band is actually buying teaching. Step from budget to qualified and you buy subject training. Step from qualified to specialist and you buy level-specific and paper-specific experience, which in a Diploma subject is the thing that moves a grade. Step from online to in-home and you buy travel. Al Riqqa sits at the Ajman end of Umm Al Quwain, which is the best position in the emirate for a drive and still means a tutor coming from Ajman or Sharjah is giving up a chunk of their afternoon, and billing you for it inside the hourly rate.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. We match on the subject and level and teach over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which removes the travel line from the invoice entirely. The rest of this page prices out that comparison, sets tutoring against the other costs of a Diploma, lists the hidden extras worth asking about before you pay anybody, and names the three ways families in this emirate reliably waste money on tutoring.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The cost of Diploma support depends far more on when a family starts than on the hourly rate they pay. These are the three entry points, in ascending order of cost per point gained.

PRE-DPMYP5 or Year 11

The year before the Diploma

Work done before DP1 begins is content and skill foundation: algebraic fluency, written structure, the habit of sitting a timed paper. Nothing is at stake yet, so the sessions are cheap in every sense. A student who arrives in DP1 able to work under a clock does not need the expensive intervention later.

In Umm Al Quwain this stage is unusually valuable because the move into the Diploma often comes with a change of school, city and teaching style at once. An Al Riqqa student may go from a local school to an Ajman or Sharjah one in a single September. A term of preparation at budget or qualified rates costs a fraction of a DP2 rescue at specialist rates.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma year one

DP1 carries the content load and the start of the coursework: the Extended Essay research question, the first Internal Assessments, the TOK exhibition. Nothing feels urgent and almost everything that will later be urgent is being decided. Hours spent here buy more per dirham than hours spent anywhere else in the two years.

This is the discount nobody takes. Al Riqqa families typically call in the DP2 autumn, when mocks, coursework deadlines and university applications collide inside an evening window already shortened by the Ajman school run. The same work done a year earlier costs fewer hours because nothing has to be repaired first.

DP2Ages 17-19 · Year 13

Diploma year two and the run-in

DP2 is coursework completion, mocks, predicted grades and paper technique, in that order of urgency. Tutoring here is diagnostic rather than comprehensive: find the question types where marks are reliably lost and work on those. It is the most expensive stage per unit of improvement because the cheap options have expired.

Specialist rates apply most strongly here, because demand peaks before the May session and the available slots are the late ones a commuting Al Riqqa household already needs. Families who book in the DP2 autumn pay more per hour and need more hours. The honest advice is to call a year earlier, which is advice against our own short-term interest.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects Al Riqqa families fund most often, with where the marks go. Subject choice affects cost: a subject with a heavy internal assessment needs coursework hours as well as paper hours.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The proof-and-algebra route. HL adds complex numbers, vectors and induction, with Paper 3 a two-problem investigation worth 20% of the HL grade. Paper 3 is the most expensive gap to leave open, because it needs practice rather than explanation and practice takes weeks.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics, calculator-permitted throughout. HL carries graph theory, Voronoi diagrams and matrices. The common loss is interpretation rather than calculation, which is cheap to fix once diagnosed and expensive to leave because it recurs on every paper.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 is multiple choice under tight timing; Paper 2 is extended response where a right number with no reasoning chain loses the explanation marks. The internal assessment needs real uncertainty treatment, so budget coursework hours separately from paper hours.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and equilibrium carry the weight in Paper 2 and organic mechanism notation is the most common hidden gap. The IA rewards a genuinely personal investigation; a reproduced textbook experiment sits mid-band however neatly written, which is a costly discovery to make late.

Biology

HL and SL

Marked as precision, not recall. Command terms decide the mark: outline, explain, describe, suggest and evaluate each want a different answer shape. Genetics and homeostasis are the usual collapse points under timing, and both respond quickly to targeted work.

Economics

HL and SL

The IA is three 800-word commentaries built on news articles the student finds, and a badly chosen article wastes a fortnight. HL adds Paper 3, arithmetic under time pressure. Budget for commentary coaching as a separate line from exam preparation.

Business Management

HL and SL

The case study decides the grade. Candidates who revise definitions and ignore the stimulus write generic answers and lose the high-tariff marks. Application to the named business is the assessed skill and it is among the cheapest improvements available in the Diploma.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen analysis against a guiding question; Paper 2 is comparative essay. The Individual Oral links a global issue to one literary and one non-literary extract. Weak IOs fail on the global issue rather than the texts, which is a planning problem and therefore inexpensive.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies must be used as evidence rather than recited: name the study, state the finding, then say what it licenses and what it does not. HL adds the extension options and a heavier research-methods load, which is where the paper separates grades.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, with the cost logic of each stated plainly. All run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one across a term

The standard arrangement: one or two hours a week for a term, following the school's scheme of work. On published market figures a weekly hour with a qualified subject tutor sits around AED 600 to 1,200 a month, and a specialist exam-year hour at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more. The cost per point gained is lowest when this starts in DP1.

  • Fixed slot held for the term rather than rebooked weekly
  • Session notes recording what was covered and what was set
  • Cheapest per unit of improvement when started early

Diagnostic block, three or four sessions

A short, bounded spend to answer one question with evidence: why the marks do not match the understanding, whether Maths AA or AI is the right route, which question types are costing the most. The output is a written analysis rather than an opinion, and it stops a family buying twenty hours of the wrong thing.

  • Past papers marked against the official scheme
  • Lost marks sorted by cause rather than by topic
  • A written conclusion you can act on or take to the school

Coursework coaching blocks

Separate from exam preparation, and budgeted separately, because it is different work. Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and the TOK essay need process coaching on the student's own writing. A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback; a tutor does not write, complete or produce the work, and we decline that request.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Research-question triage before weeks are invested badly
  • Priced as a block rather than open-ended, because the deadline is fixed

Holiday maintenance

A fortnightly session across a long break, with a past paper between them. The cheapest insurance available in the Diploma: a student who loses six weeks of momentum over the summer pays for it in DP2 hours at specialist rates. Sessions follow a family abroad, since all that is needed is a connection and an agreed hour.

  • Fortnightly rather than weekly, to hold ground without filling a holiday
  • Works across time zones while a family travels
  • Far cheaper than the DP2 repair it prevents

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Riqqa

01

Tutoring set against the other costs of a Diploma

A tutoring quote means nothing in isolation. Set against the cost of the two years it sits in, the decision becomes a question of proportion rather than a question of whether AED 250 an hour sounds like a lot, which it does out of context and does not in it.

Start with the anchor. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. That matters to an Al Riqqa family mainly as a benchmark: a household already paying international school fees in Ajman or Sharjah, where SPEA approves fees in that emirate, is weighing a tutoring budget against a school bill that is an order of magnitude larger.

Against that, published tutoring figures look different. A weekly hour with a qualified subject tutor at Bestimate's AED 600 to 1,200 a month is roughly the cost of one subject's worth of attention across a school year. A specialist exam-year arrangement at AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more a month is a meaningful commitment and usually a temporary one, concentrated in two or three terms rather than spread over the full two years. The published AED 799 monthly online package for eight sessions is the cheapest structured option in the market as read in October 2026.

The table below puts the pieces together so the proportions are visible. It deliberately does not include an IB Gram price, because this page is not a price list and our own arrangements begin with a free trial lesson and a conversation. What it does is let you judge any quote you are given, from us or from anyone else, against the market and against the rest of the bill.

The five bands, and what the money is actually doing

An hourly rate is not a quality score. It is a bundle of things, and the bundles differ. Working up the bands shows what each additional dirham is buying, which is the only way to tell whether a quote is good value or merely expensive.

From AED 45 to 150 an hour you are buying availability. A university-student tutor can keep a capable child moving, explain homework, and hold a routine. What you are not buying is specification knowledge, and at Diploma level that matters, because the difference between a 5 and a 6 is usually technique against a specific paper rather than understanding of the topic. From AED 150 to 300 you are buying subject training and familiarity with the course. From AED 200 to 450 and above you are buying level-specific and paper-specific experience: someone who has taken cohorts through HL and can name the failure modes without looking them up.

From AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit you are buying presence plus travel. Presence is genuine value for a younger child. Travel is pure cost, and in Umm Al Quwain it is a large one: a tutor driving from Ajman or Sharjah to Al Riqqa gives up roughly two hours of their day to deliver one. At AED 500 to 650 and above you are buying reputation, and any claim of examiner status should be evidenced rather than accepted, because it is unverifiable from a website and is often used to imply access to marking or boundaries that nobody has.

The practical test is to ask what the rate includes and then price the pieces. If two quotes are AED 250 and AED 320 and the second includes the drive, the second is cheaper on teaching and more expensive overall. If a quote is AED 200 and the tutor teaches a different board, it is not a bargain at any price.

03

The travel premium, priced out for Al Riqqa

Al Riqqa is the best-placed address in Umm Al Quwain for an in-home arrangement, because it sits nearest the Ajman border. That is worth saying because it means the figures here are the most favourable version of the in-home case anywhere in the emirate, and even at their most favourable they are not compelling for an exam-year Diploma student.

Consider what the tutor is selling. One hour of teaching requires them to leave Ajman, drive north, teach, and drive back, which is somewhere between two and three hours of their working day depending on the hour. A rate that makes that worthwhile has to price all of it. That is why the in-home band at AED 180 to 500 sits above the online qualified band at AED 150 to 300 despite often being the same person: the difference is the road.

Set against that, what online delivery removes is not just the travel cost but the travel risk. The appointment no longer has to be fixed against a bus arrival time nobody can predict. A late arrival costs ten minutes instead of a wasted journey that is usually charged anyway. And because nobody is driving, an evening slot at 19:30 is as cheap as one at 17:00, which matters in a household whose child commutes out of the emirate.

The one case where the in-home premium earns its keep is a younger child who genuinely needs an adult physically present to stay on task. That is a real need and it is worth paying for. It is not the situation of a DP2 student who keeps losing marks on Paper 2 extended response, where the thing worth paying for is somebody who knows Paper 2. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India.

04

The three ways families here waste money on tutoring

  • Paying the travel premium and receiving a generalist
  • Buying twenty hours before buying three hours of diagnosis
  • Starting in the DP2 spring instead of DP1, at higher rates for more hours
  • Buying finished coursework, which risks the qualification itself

The first is paying a specialist rate for a generalist, which happens most often through the in-home route. A family pays AED 300 an hour for somebody willing to drive to Al Riqqa, and the person who arrives teaches the right subject at the wrong level, or the right level on a different board. The money was spent on willingness to travel. Nobody set out to buy that, and nobody discovers it until week three.

The second is buying hours before buying a diagnosis. Six sessions of general revision costs AED 900 to 1,800 on published market bands and changes very little, because nobody has established where the marks are actually going. Three or four sessions spent marking past papers against the official scheme and sorting the losses by cause — content not known, method not shown, command term misread, units and notation, time ran out — tells you what the next twenty hours should contain. Almost no family has seen their child's losses sorted this way, and the analysis costs less than the wasted hours it prevents.

The third is starting late, which is the most expensive of the three and the hardest to see at the time. Work done before DP1 or during DP1 is cheap: the student is not under pressure, the rate is lower because specialist exam-year demand has not kicked in, and nothing has to be repaired first. The same outcome pursued in the DP2 spring needs more hours, at higher rates, in the late slots that are hardest to book, while coursework deadlines and university applications compete for the same evenings. Families call us in the DP2 autumn and the honest answer is often that the cheap window has closed.

A fourth waste deserves naming even though it is rarer: buying assessed work. One page examined for this project sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price. That is not expensive tutoring, it is a transaction that puts a Diploma at risk, and the student carries the consequence rather than the seller.

05

Hidden extras: the questions to ask before paying anybody

A rate is only comparable if you know what it contains, and the market is inconsistent about that. Two providers quoting AED 250 can mean materially different things, and the differences are rarely volunteered. These are the questions that expose them, and they apply to us as much as to anyone else.

Is the figure per hour or per session, and how long is a session? A 45-minute session quoted hourly is a 33% increase that looks like a flat rate. Does it include VAT? We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition as a general rule because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation, but any provider should tell you plainly whether the number they quoted is what leaves your account. What happens on a cancellation inside 24 hours, by either side? Does the rate rise closer to an exam session, when demand peaks? Is there a charge for the match, for session notes, or for a progress report?

Then the questions nobody asks. What happens if the tutor turns out to teach a different board or level than your child sits? What happens if the fit is wrong in week two — is there a rematch, and is it charged? If a free trial is offered, what is the condition attached: a minimum booking, a card on file, a notice period? A conditional free trial is fine; one presented as unconditional and then revealed is not.

Our own answers, for comparison. The match is not charged. The trial lesson is free and carries no minimum booking. Session notes come with every session. If the fit is wrong, say so and we rematch rather than argue. We publish no price list on these pages because an honest one depends on subject, level and availability, and a number invented for a page is worse than a conversation.

What no amount of money can buy in this market

Some things are on sale in the UAE tutoring market that nobody can legitimately supply, and knowing what they are protects a budget as effectively as comparing rates.

Nobody can sell you regulator approval. Dubai private schools are overseen by KHDA; Abu Dhabi and Al Ain by ADEK; Sharjah by SPEA; Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the federal Ministry of Education. None of those bodies approves or accredits a tutoring provider. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, requiring initial approval and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, no accreditation from any UAE authority and no partnership with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no provider should imply otherwise.

Nobody can sell you a promised grade. A tutor can teach technique, diagnose losses and hold a student to a plan; the outcome belongs to the student and the examiner. Any offer of a top-grade promise, a point-gain promise or money back on results should be read as a sales device unless the exact refund terms are published and honoured. Nobody can legitimately sell you completed coursework, and nobody can sell you access to marking, unreleased papers or grade boundaries.

Nobody should be selling you the MoHRE permit either. The private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit face fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, treat any specific amount quoted at you as unverified.

07

Equivalency is free, and not something to pay a tutor for

  • Five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that five-subject count
  • One A-Level at E, or two AS-Levels at E, on the British track
  • No IB points threshold is published here; verify it on moe.gov.ae

A Diploma student from Al Riqqa applying to a UAE institution meets the Ministry of Education's equivalency process. It converts a foreign school certificate into something UAE universities and employers can read, and it is a Ministry process rather than a service a tutoring provider performs. Nobody should be charging you to handle it, and we do not offer to.

The published British-track rules are useful even to IB families, because most IB students in the UAE have an IGCSE history behind them: five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. At least one ranking competitor page publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong and is the kind of error a family budgets around.

On the American track, English proficiency requires 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math before applying. For the IB Diploma specifically, this page publishes no points threshold, because we have not read one on the Ministry's own site. An invented figure here would be a figure a family plans two years around. Ask the Ministry, the emirate attestation authority, or your school's university counsellor.

One further caution with a direct cost implication. Tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression. Any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process in order to sell hours, and that is a reason to end the conversation rather than to open your wallet.

08

Coursework: the only purchase that can cost more than it costs

  • Permitted: criterion explanation, feedback on the student's own draft, research-question triage, method teaching
  • Not permitted: drafting, completing or polishing assessed work to submission standard
  • Not permitted: distributing IB syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as files
  • The test: a list for the student, not a document for the parent

Every other decision on this page is about value for money. This one is about risk. One page examined for this project sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a published price, and that transaction can cost a student their Diploma, which no refund covers.

What a tutor may legitimately be paid for is teaching. That means explaining what each assessment criterion rewards and in what proportion, reading a draft the student has written and saying where it falls short of the descriptors, triaging a research question that cannot be answered inside the word limit, teaching the statistics a Biology investigation needs, and explaining why a Chemistry IA that reproduces a textbook method will sit mid-band however neatly it is presented. All of that is feedback on the student's own work, and it is both permitted and worth paying for.

What a tutor may not do is write, draft, complete, ghost-produce or edit to submission standard any part of an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay, Personal Project or coursework. IB Gram does not and declines the request. A quieter line applies too: a tutor should not hand over board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads, because those belong to the IB. We cite and link to the official source instead.

The test is cheap to apply and it works every time. A legitimate coursework session ends with your child holding a list of changes to make. If what arrives is a cleaner document, you have bought something whose downside is the qualification itself, and that is the one purchase on this page where the price is not the point.

Where we tutor

Al Riqqa and the rest of the emirate, priced by distance

Where you live changes what an in-home tutor would charge you, because the drive is inside the rate. It does not change what an online specialist charges. These notes make that visible.

Al Riqqa

The closest part of Umm Al Quwain to the Ajman border, which makes it the cheapest address in the emirate for an in-home visit and the one with the widest evening window. A session can sometimes start at 17:00, which is early for this emirate.

Al Raas

The older quarter of the city near the creek, a few minutes further from the Ajman road. Similar in-home economics to Al Riqqa and the same small local specialist pool, which is the constraint neither address escapes.

Al Salamah

Inland and residential, with the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road leg as the usual route. A little further for a visiting tutor and a little later for the student's arrival home, which pushes both the rate and the start time up.

UAQ Marina

Coastal and newer, roughly fifteen minutes further from the Ajman and Sharjah roads. An in-home tutor quoting a flat rate across the emirate is subsidising the Marina from Al Riqqa, and a tutor quoting by distance will charge the Marina more.

Umm Al Quwain city centre

Where the emirate's own private schools sit, under federal Ministry of Education supervision. A locally schooled student has a shorter day, a wider evening and therefore more hours available per week for the same monthly spend.

Falaj Al Mualla

Well inland. The in-home travel premium is at its highest here and the willing pool at its smallest, so the quoted hourly rate would sit at the top of the AED 180 to 500 band for the same teaching.

Ajman and Sharjah school corridor

Not a place to live but the thing that sets both the evening window and the travel premium. A tutor driving in from Sharjah is giving up roughly two hours of their day for one hour of teaching, and that ratio is what the in-home band is really pricing.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Riqqa

Umm Al Quwain, including Al Riqqa

Private schools here are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority. The set is small, which keeps the local specialist pool small regardless of what anyone pays. Ask a school directly whether it offers the full Diploma and which Higher Level subjects it can actually staff.

  • Umm Al Quwain English Private School
  • Al Ameer English School
  • The Westminster School Umm Al Quwain

Ajman and Sharjah, where the fees and the commute are

Sharjah private schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees as well as curricula and assessment methods. Ajman sits under the federal Ministry of Education. School fees in those emirates are approved by those bodies, which is where a fee question belongs rather than with a tutoring provider.

  • Ajman Academy
  • The Millennium School Sharjah
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • GEMS Millennium School Sharjah

Schools are named as context for the education ecosystem Al Riqqa families use. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and each name should be verified against the relevant regulator's own current listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say the subject, the level and your budget shape

Tell us whether you are thinking in hours a week or dirhams a month, because the two lead to different plans. A monthly figure lets us say honestly what it will and will not cover at published market rates, rather than quoting an hourly number that sounds reasonable and then needing twice as many hours.

  2. 02

Buy the diagnosis before the hours

Send four marked past papers if you have them. Three or four sessions sorting lost marks by cause costs far less than twenty hours of general revision and tells you what those hours should contain. Most families have never seen their child's losses broken down this way.

  3. 03

Take the free trial, with no condition attached

One session, no minimum booking, no card required, at the hour you would genuinely use. Al Riqqa's position near the Ajman border often makes a 17:00 start workable. Watch whether the tutor diagnoses or lectures in the first twenty minutes, because that is what you are paying for later.

  4. 04

Review the spend against marked work every six weeks

Compare what you have paid against what has moved: school assessment marks, past-paper scores by question type, coursework feedback. If the numbers have not shifted on what you targeted, change the plan or the tutor. A rematch in week two costs an hour; one in week ten costs a term of fees.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The price question answered rather than deflected

Three of six competitor pages examined publish no price at all, and one asks the cost question in its own FAQ and then refuses to answer it. This page leads with sourced AED bands, names who published each one, and states plainly that they are market figures rather than ours.

The travel premium made visible

An in-home tutor driving from Ajman or Sharjah spends two to three hours of their day to deliver one, and the hourly rate prices all of it. Al Riqqa is the best-placed address in the emirate for that drive, and even here the premium buys the road rather than better teaching.

Diagnosis costed before hours

Three or four sessions sorting lost marks by cause costs less than the twenty hours of general revision it replaces. We would rather sell a short diagnostic block and a precise plan than a long open-ended arrangement that nobody can evaluate.

No approval claims and no invented statistics

IB Gram holds no approval from KHDA, ADEK or SPEA, no Ministry accreditation and no partnership with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. You will find no satisfaction percentage, star rating or student count on this page, because we cannot produce the underlying data for one.

A firm line on assessed work

We teach, review and give feedback on the student's own work. We do not draft, complete or produce an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework, and we decline the request. It is the only purchase in this market whose downside is the qualification itself.

Advice against our own short-term interest

The cheapest Diploma support starts in DP1, when nothing is urgent and specialist exam-year demand has not pushed rates and slots. Telling an Al Riqqa family that in the DP2 autumn means selling fewer hours, and it is still the honest answer.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Riqqa: your questions answered

What does an IB home tutor in Al Riqqa charge per hour?+

Published UAE market figures read in October 2026 put in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500, travel included in the figure. Online, a qualified subject tutor sits at AED 150 to 300 and an IB specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more. Al Riqqa is the closest part of the emirate to the Ajman border, so in-home quotes here should sit at the lower end of that band.

Do the published monthly packages work out cheaper for us?+

It depends what the package contains. Published market packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is eight contact hours either way at roughly double the price for the in-home version. A package is good value if the sessions genuinely get used; it is poor value if a commuting household misses two a month. Ask what happens to unused sessions before committing.

Where does the money go in an in-home tutoring rate?+

Partly into teaching and substantially into driving. A tutor coming to Al Riqqa from Ajman or Sharjah spends two to three hours of their working day to deliver one taught hour, and a sustainable rate prices all of it. That is why the in-home band at AED 180 to 500 sits above the online qualified band at AED 150 to 300 even when it is the same person teaching. Online delivery removes the line rather than discounting it.

What is the cheapest sensible way to support a Diploma student?+

Start in DP1 and buy a diagnosis before buying hours. Work done in DP1 costs fewer hours because nothing has to be repaired first, and specialist exam-year demand has not yet pushed rates or filled the late slots a commuting family needs. Three or four diagnostic sessions, costing far less than twenty hours of general revision, tell you exactly which question types are losing marks. Fortnightly maintenance across long breaks is the cheapest insurance available.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to an Al Riqqa address?+

No. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. All UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The market does supply in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 an hour on published 2026 figures, and this page sets out what that premium is paying for so you can judge whether it suits your child rather than taking our word for it.

How much should six weeks of exam preparation cost?+

On published bands, six weekly hours with a qualified subject tutor runs roughly AED 900 to 1,800, and with a specialist roughly AED 1,200 to 2,700 or more. Whether that is worth spending depends entirely on whether the hours are targeted. Six sessions of general revision with no analysis of where marks go changes little. Six sessions aimed at three question types identified from marked papers can move a grade boundary. Buy the analysis first.

Are there charges besides the hourly rate?+

Sometimes, and they are rarely volunteered. Ask whether the figure is per hour or per session and how long a session runs, whether it includes VAT, what a cancellation inside 24 hours costs on either side, whether the rate rises before an exam session, and whether there are charges for matching, session notes or progress reports. Our own position: no charge for the match, no minimum booking on the trial lesson, and session notes included every time.

Can a provider promise a better grade if we pay more?+

No, and you should treat any such offer as a sales device. A tutor can teach technique, diagnose where marks are going and hold a student to a plan, but the outcome belongs to the student and the examiner. Promises of a top grade, a specific point gain or money back on results should only be considered where the exact refund terms are published and honoured on the same page. IB Gram makes no promise of that kind, because none would be honest.

How much does the private tutor permit cost a tutor?+

Nothing. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. If anybody is charging a tutor for the permit itself, that is a fee the ministry does not levy.

Does tutoring cost more in exam term?+

In this market, often yes, because specialist demand peaks before the May session and the late evening slots a commuting Al Riqqa household needs are the first to fill. That is one more reason the DP1 year is the cheap window. Ask any provider directly whether their rate moves with the calendar, because a figure quoted in September that rises in February is a different proposition from a fixed one, and the difference is rarely volunteered.

Is a small group cheaper and does it work?+

Cheaper per student, yes, and it works for content coverage rather than for technique. A group of two to four can be taught a topic efficiently. What a group cannot do is sit with one student's marked paper and work through the specific reasons that student loses marks, which is where Diploma gains usually come from. Ask what the actual group size is, because two and six are very different products sold under the same name.

What should we not pay a tutoring provider to do?+

Four things. Do not pay for regulator approval: KHDA, ADEK, SPEA and the Ministry of Education regulate schools, not tutoring providers. Do not pay for a promise about a grade. Do not pay for completed coursework, which risks the Diploma itself and is the one purchase where the price is irrelevant. And do not pay anybody to handle Ministry of Education equivalency, which is a Ministry process that we describe rather than perform.

How does Al Riqqa compare with the rest of the emirate on cost?+

Favourably, for in-home arrangements, because it is the closest part of Umm Al Quwain to the Ajman border and therefore the shortest drive. UAQ Marina adds roughly fifteen minutes and Falaj Al Mualla considerably more, which pushes an in-home quote towards the top of the AED 180 to 500 band for identical teaching. Online rates do not vary by address at all, which is the simplest argument on this page.

What does school fee context tell us about a tutoring budget?+

It gives the proportion. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27 under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion, which is a useful anchor even for a family schooling in Ajman or Sharjah, where SPEA approves fees in its emirate. Against an international school bill, a weekly hour at AED 600 to 1,200 a month is a marginal addition rather than a second school fee.

If we can only afford one subject, which one?+

The Higher Level subject with the heaviest internal assessment weighting and the weakest current marks, in that order. HL subjects carry 240 teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level and contribute the same points, so a point gained at HL costs the same as one gained at SL and is usually harder to get unaided. Where coursework is both heavily weighted and unstarted, that is the subject to fund, because a deadline missed cannot be recovered at any rate.

Price the teaching, not the travel

Al Riqqa's position near the Ajman border makes it the cheapest address in Umm Al Quwain for a visiting tutor, and that is still the wrong thing to be buying for an exam-year Diploma student. The published bands are on this page, with the source of each, so you can test any quote you are given. Tell us the subject, the level, and whether you are thinking in hours a week or dirhams a month, send four marked past papers if you have them, and take the free trial lesson with no condition attached. If a short diagnostic block is the honest recommendation, that is what we will say.
