IB IGCSE Tutor near me in UAQ Marina

Searching for an IB IGCSE tutor near me in UAQ Marina almost always starts as a price question, so this page starts there too. Published market rates around Umm Al Quwain run from roughly AED 45 an hour for a university-student tutor to AED 450 and above for a Diploma specialist, and most of the gap between those two numbers is travel and overhead rather than teaching. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, so a UAQ Marina family pays for teaching hours instead of driving hours.

  • Live one-to-one video lessons; IB Gram runs no UAQ Marina home visits
  • Market AED bands printed on this page, each attributed to its published source

IB & IGCSE in UAQ Marina

What an hour of IGCSE or IB teaching actually costs a family in UAQ Marina

A parent in UAQ Marina typing "IB IGCSE tutor near me" into Google is usually holding two numbers in their head: the rate a neighbour mentioned, and the rate a Dubai agency quoted on the phone. Those two numbers are often three times apart, and nothing on the first page of results explains why. This page explains why, prints the bands, names who publishes each one, and then says plainly what IB Gram does differently with them.

The published market in this country splits into five tiers. A university-student tutor working online advertises from AED 33 to 65 an hour; EdFlik lists from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits between AED 150 and 300, with Unitors publishing from AED 150 for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB. An in-home one-to-one visit, travel folded in, is quoted between AED 180 and 500, with Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500. A named IB or IGCSE specialist runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650.

Read those five tiers side by side and one thing becomes obvious: the in-home band overlaps almost exactly with the specialist band, but it buys a different thing. In-home money buys a car, fuel and forty-five minutes of unpaid driving. Specialist money buys someone who can look at a Paper 2 script and tell you which command term the student misread. For a family in UAQ Marina, where the pool of tutors willing to drive is small and mostly lives in Sharjah or Ajman, those two purchases are not available at the same price.

Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate, and most internationally-schooled children here commute out to Sharjah, Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah for school. That commute compresses the evening. A child back home at 4.30pm, fed and settled by six, has a workable window between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on a school night. A tutor who has to drive into Al Salamah or UAQ Marina for that window will quote for 90 or 120 minutes, because a 60-minute booking does not cover the trip. The minimum booking size is the cost nobody quotes you, and it is where a UAQ Marina budget leaks first.

Online one-to-one over live video removes that leak. A 60-minute lesson is economically viable for the tutor, so it is available to you, and the tutor can be the Chemistry HL specialist who happens to be free at 7pm rather than the generalist who happens to live twenty minutes away. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. That is a limit worth stating in the first two hundred words rather than burying, and the rest of this page argues the case on cost, tutor pool and continuity instead of pretending the limit is not there.

Everything below is organised around money. What the market charges, what each tier buys, where families overpay, what a month costs instead of an hour, what you can verify before you pay, and what happens to the price when the specialist you need is not free. The exam calendar, the permit rules and the academic-honesty boundary all appear, because each one has a direct effect on what you should be willing to spend and when.

At a glance

  • Qualified online subject tutors publish AED 150–300 an hour; in-home visits are quoted AED 180–500
  • Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour: AED 240–600 budget, 600–1,200 mid, 1,000–2,000+ specialist
  • Market monthly packages seen online: AED 799 for eight online sessions, AED 1,599–1,799 for four in-home two-hour visits
  • UAQ Marina's realistic school-night window is roughly 6.30pm to 8.30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Umm Al Quwain private schools are supervised federally by the Ministry of Education, not by KHDA or ADEK
  • A tutor working privately in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is issued free of charge for two years
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four programme routes cover nearly every Umm Al Quwain family who searches this phrase. The cost of teaching each one differs, because the assessment load differs, so each entry below notes what drives the hours as well as what the programme is.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked A to D on an eight-point scale and converted to a 1-7 grade by published boundaries. There is no external paper until the optional eAssessment, so the grade a student carries is built entirely from internally marked tasks. Families usually seek help when criterion marks stop moving despite effort, which is a rubric-literacy problem rather than a content problem.

MYP places in and around Umm Al Quwain mean a commute, most often to an IB continuum school in Ajman or Sharjah. Teaching hours for MYP tend to be cheaper than Diploma hours because the work is criterion coaching rather than paper technique, and one hour a fortnight is often enough. Spending Diploma-level money on MYP 3 is the single most common overspend we see from this emirate.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment worth roughly 20 to 25 per cent of the grade, and the external papers sit in the May session for schools in this region. The Diploma is the most expensive thing to tutor because HL depth and IA supervision are two different skills and the same person needs both.

A Diploma student commuting from UAQ Marina loses an hour a day to the road, which is why Diploma families here are the most likely to buy long in-home blocks they do not need. The cheaper structure is a weekly 60-minute online slot in term time, stepped up to twice weekly for six to eight weeks before the series, with IA work booked as discrete sessions around the school's own draft deadlines.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Subjects are coded and the code decides the paper structure: Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610, English Language 0500. Most sciences split Core and Extended tiers, and the tier caps the grade. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series, and every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, so the timetable version matters as much as the date.

UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the February/March series is offered in India only, and a page that tells an Umm Al Quwain parent otherwise is handing them a wrong deadline. Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used, so confirm your child's zone with the school's exams officer rather than with a tutor.

EDEXCELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other IGCSE board in common UAE use, with its own codes: Mathematics 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1, Biology 4BI1, English Language 4EA1. Papers are available in a May/June window and in November. Some Pearson qualifications are modular, which changes when a student can bank a result and therefore when tutoring is worth buying.

For the November 2026 series the Pearson final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results follow in January: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Pearson revises provisional timetables, so work from the live official timetable rather than from a figure on any tutoring site.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Not every subject costs the same to tutor, because not every subject has the same failure mode. The ten below are what Umm Al Quwain families ask for most, with the specific thing that eats marks in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The proof-heavy IB maths route. Marks go on unjustified steps in calculus and on the HL proof and complex-number work in Paper 3. An IGCSE maths tutor cannot teach this; it needs someone who works at HL regularly, and that is a different hourly band.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with a graphic display calculator throughout. The common loss is interpretation: a correct regression with no sentence explaining what it means in context scores the calculation mark and nothing else. Calculator fluency is cheap to fix and worth fixing first.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics

0580 Core and Extended

The Extended tier reaches A*, the Core tier caps at grade C, and a student entered on the wrong tier is paying for teaching that cannot reach the grade they want. Check the tier on the entry before buying hours. Algebraic fractions and bounds are the recurring Extended losses.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics

0625 Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetic induction carry the heaviest mark loss, followed by anything asking for a method. Paper 6 alternative-to-practical questions reward precise apparatus language and nothing else, which is why a tutor who only teaches theory leaves marks on the table.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry

0620 Core and Extended

Moles calculations and organic reaction pathways are where Extended candidates lose most. The qualitative-analysis tables are learnable in two sessions and often the cheapest grade movement available in the whole subject.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology

0610 Core and Extended

Content volume, not difficulty, is the problem. Students lose marks on extended-response questions by listing facts without using the command term. Transport in plants, homeostasis and inheritance diagrams account for a large share of dropped marks.

IB Chemistry

HL and SL

HL adds depth across energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, and the Internal Assessment demands a research question narrow enough to control. The IA is where a tutor is most useful and most constrained: feedback on the student's own design and analysis, never drafting.

IB Biology

HL and SL

Data-based questions and the statistical treatment in the IA are the two reliable mark sinks. Students who can recite a process often cannot read an unfamiliar graph under time pressure, and that is a trainable skill rather than a knowledge gap.

English Language and English A

IGCSE 0500 / 4EA1 and IB SL/HL

At IGCSE the loss is structural: directed writing that ignores audience and form. At IB the Individual Oral and Paper 1 guided analysis both reward a line of argument rather than feature-spotting. Both are coachable without any writing being done for the student.

Economics and Business Studies

IB HL/SL and IGCSE 0455 / 0450

Diagram accuracy decides IB Economics marks more than prose quality does, and the IB commentaries need real published articles chosen early. IGCSE Business Studies rewards applied answers tied to the case material rather than textbook definitions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three delivery patterns cover almost every budget shape a UAQ Marina family brings. All three are taught one-to-one over live video, which is why a 60-minute booking is possible at all.

Weekly 60-minute one-to-one

The default and the cheapest structure that actually moves a grade. One hour a week in term time, same slot, same tutor, with work set between sessions. Because no one is driving, a single hour is viable for the tutor, which keeps the weekly spend at the bottom of the band rather than the top.

  • Fixed Gulf Standard Time slot, usually between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on a school night
  • One subject, one syllabus code, one tutor
  • Work marked and returned, not just discussed
  • Reviewed every six weeks against the school's own assessment points

Pre-series intensive block

Six to eight weeks ahead of a June or November series, stepping to two sessions a week on the two weakest papers. This is where specialist money is well spent, because past-paper marking under timed conditions is the part a student cannot do alone. Booked as a block with an end date, so the spend stops when the series does.

  • Timed papers marked against the published mark scheme
  • Command-term drilling on the specific questions that lost marks
  • A written list of the topics still at risk, updated weekly
  • Ends when the series ends; no rolling commitment

Internal Assessment and coursework process coaching

Discrete sessions timed around the school's draft deadlines, covering research-question scope, method design, data handling and criterion interpretation. The tutor teaches the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own drafts. No part of an assessed piece is produced for the student, and we say so on the first session as well as on this page.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Research question narrowed until it is actually answerable
  • Referencing and academic-honesty expectations explained early
  • Booked per milestone rather than weekly

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in UAQ Marina

01

What a UAQ Marina parent is really asking when they search for a tutor near them

  • Proximity buys travel time; specialism buys marks
  • An online IGCSE tuition in Umm Al Quwain slot costs the same as the equivalent slot in Dubai
  • The local in-home pool is thinnest exactly where demand is highest: Chemistry HL and Maths AA HL
  • Weekend mornings are the cheapest time to buy past-paper practice for a commuting student

The honest answer to "is there an IB IGCSE tutor near me in UAQ Marina" is that proximity is the wrong variable. There are specialists who teach Cambridge 0620 Chemistry and IB Chemistry HL every week of the year; almost none of them live in Umm Al Quwain, and the ones who would drive here are charging you for the drive. The question that gets a parent a better outcome is "who is free at 7pm on a Tuesday and knows this paper", and that question has a much larger answer.

This matters more in this emirate than almost anywhere else in the country. Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate, and the researched competitor corpus for UAE tutoring mentions it almost nowhere — the content that ranks for these searches was written about Dubai and had the place name swapped. A page that tells you an in-home IGCSE maths tutor is readily available in UAQ Marina at Dubai rates is describing a market that does not exist here.

What does exist is a short list of generalist tutors who work across the northern emirates, a longer list of Sharjah-based tuition centres, and the whole online market. The first group is convenient and expensive per useful hour. The second means another drive at the end of an already long day. The third is where the subject depth is, and it is the only one of the three where a UAQ Marina family and a Dubai family can buy the same tutor at the same rate.

So this page answers the search literally and then reframes it. Below you will find the market bands, the places the money goes wrong, a monthly rather than hourly view of cost, what you can verify about a tutor before paying, how the exam calendar should shape when you spend, and what we tell a family when the specialist they need genuinely is not free. IB Gram delivers all of it as live online one-to-one teaching.

02

The published AED bands, and what each tier of money actually buys

Three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. That is useful to know before you accept a number over the phone, because it means the going rate is not something you can easily check. The table below gathers what providers have actually published, with the provider named against each band, so you can see where a quote you have been given sits.

Read it as a ladder of purchases rather than a ladder of quality. The bottom tier buys supervision: someone sitting with a student while homework gets done, which has real value for a disorganised MYP 3 student and almost none for a DP2 candidate six weeks out from a Chemistry paper. The middle tier buys paper literacy — a teacher who can look at a script and name the lost mark. The top tier buys scarcity, and scarcity is worth paying for only when the subject genuinely is scarce.

The in-home row is the one to study. It overlaps the specialist band almost exactly, but the overlap is not like-for-like: a tutor quoting AED 300 for an in-home hour in Umm Al Quwain is pricing in a round trip that a tutor quoting AED 300 online is not. Somewhere between AED 30 and AED 200 of that hourly rate is the car. You are entitled to ask a prospective tutor to separate the two, and a reluctance to do so tells you something.

One caution on every figure here: these are market rates published by other providers on the dates recorded in our research, not IB Gram prices. If you want our number for your child's subject and level, the free trial lesson and the consultation that follows it is where you get it, and the trial is free with no card details taken.

Five ways an Umm Al Quwain family overpays without noticing

  • Buying 120-minute sessions because the tutor needs the trip to pay, not because the child needs the time
  • Paying HL specialist rates for MYP criterion coaching
  • Starting four subjects in the same week
  • Spending evenly across the year instead of loading the eight weeks before a series
  • Never asking whether the tutor holds the free MoHRE private tuition work permit

Overspending on tutoring rarely looks like a high hourly rate. It looks like a sensible rate attached to the wrong structure. The five patterns below account for most of the wasted money we see from families in this emirate, and each one is fixable in a single conversation before the first invoice.

The first is the minimum-booking trap. A tutor who travels needs 90 to 120 minutes to make the trip worthwhile, and a twelve-year-old does not concentrate for 120 minutes. You are buying attention you cannot use. The second is paying specialist rates for generalist work: AED 300 an hour to supervise MYP homework is a real invoice someone pays every month. The third is buying hours for six subjects at once, which produces a timetable no child follows and a bill nobody wants to look at.

The fourth is spending in the wrong eight weeks. Money spent in the two months before a June or November series does measurably more than the same money spent in September, because that is when timed papers and mark-scheme work actually bite. The fifth is paying for a tutor whose permit position you never checked, which is a risk rather than a waste — the UAE private tuition work permit exists and is issued free of charge, so there is no cost reason for a tutor not to hold one.

The underlying fix is boring: name the syllabus code, name the paper, name the grade you are trying to move, and buy the smallest structure that could plausibly move it. Then review after six weeks against the school's own assessment data rather than against a feeling. Almost every family who does this spends less in the first term than they expected to.

04

Online one-to-one against a tutor who drives to Umm Al Quwain

This is the comparison a UAQ Marina family actually has to make, and it is worth making on paper rather than on instinct. A home tutor in UAQ Marina is a real option; it is simply an expensive one here, for reasons that have nothing to do with the tutor's ability. The table sets the two side by side on the dimensions that change a monthly bill.

The tutor-pool row is the one that decides outcomes. Umm Al Quwain cannot supply a Chemistry HL specialist, an Economics HL specialist and a 4MA1 Mathematics specialist within driving distance on the same weekday evening. Online, that constraint disappears entirely, because the only question is who is free in the Gulf Standard Time evening window. Families who insist on proximity end up with a generalist teaching three subjects, which is the compromise that quietly costs a grade.

The lost-time row matters almost as much. A round trip from Sharjah or Ajman into UAQ Marina on a weekday evening is 45 to 90 minutes, and someone pays for it: either the tutor absorbs it and raises the rate, or the family absorbs it by accepting a 9pm start. Neither is good for a fifteen-year-old with a mock the following week.

To be explicit, because the URL you arrived on says "tutor near me": IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses in Umm Al Quwain or anywhere else in the UAE, and no in-person session is available here. In-home teaching is a service we run only in India. What a UAQ Marina family gets instead is one-to-one teaching over live video with screen-sharing and a shared whiteboard, from a tutor chosen for the syllabus rather than for the drive.

Think in months, not hours: four spending patterns and what each one fixes

Hourly rates are how tutoring is sold and monthly totals are how families actually experience it. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session put a budget tutor at AED 240 to 600 a month, a mid-range tutor at AED 600 to 1,200, and a specialist in an exam year at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. Packaged offers circulate too: AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

Converting to monthly figures changes decisions. An AED 650 premium hour looks unthinkable until you notice that one such hour a fortnight is AED 1,300 a month, which is roughly what the in-home package costs — and the in-home package includes travel you are not using. Equally, a cheap AED 60 hour looks like a bargain until a parent realises they are buying eight of them a month to produce the same effect one specialist hour would.

The right pattern depends on the year, not on the family's means. In MYP 3 or Year 9, light maintenance is usually correct and anything heavier is money held in reserve badly. In Year 10 or DP1, weekly mid-range teaching builds the habits that matter later. In the final IGCSE or Diploma year, specialist money in the eight weeks before the series is the highest-return spend available, and that is also the period when good tutors have no free slots left.

One structural point about packages: a monthly bundle buys a number of sessions, not a specific person at a specific time. If having the same tutor in the same slot every week matters to your child — and for an anxious student it usually does — check that the package actually commits to it before you buy the discount.

The regulator, the permit, and what a parent can check before paying anything

  • Umm Al Quwain: federal Ministry of Education supervision for private schools
  • Ask any prospective tutor for their MoHRE private tuition work permit; it is free, so there is no excuse
  • No tutoring company in the UAE is KHDA-accredited for tutoring, whatever a homepage says
  • Verify equivalency and attestation questions on moe.gov.ae rather than with a tutor

Private schools in Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, which u.ae describes as playing a central supervisory role for private schools in those three emirates. Dubai has KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain have ADEK, Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge. If your child commutes to Sharjah, both the federal rules and SPEA's requirements are in play — SPEA approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods in that emirate.

None of those bodies accredits private tutors, and no tutoring provider in this market can honestly describe itself as approved by any of them. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, IB, Cambridge or Pearson accreditation, partnership or licence, and neither do the sites that imply otherwise. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific document issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai; it is not something an online platform or an individual tutor has.

What does apply to individual tutors is the permit. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the MoHRE private tuition work permit, granted free of charge for two years, with eligibility extending to teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page, "Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing", lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through its app, website and e-services. Anyone tutoring privately without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so treat any specific figure you read as unverified.

A separate rule is worth knowing before you ask about a school teacher tutoring privately. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules describes Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff being barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct covering similar ground. Confirm the current wording with the authority before relying on it, but the practical advice is clear: do not arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them for money.

07

Reading the exam calendar backwards, and why it decides when you spend

  • UAE Cambridge candidates: June and November only
  • Pearson International GCSE: May/June and November, results in August and January respectively
  • Entry deadlines sit months ahead of papers, so resit decisions are summer decisions
  • Confirm your Cambridge zone timetable with the school's exams officer

The single most expensive mistake in tutoring budgets is spreading money evenly across a year. Assessment does not work evenly, so spending should not either. Working backwards from results day rather than forwards from September tells you which weeks matter.

For Cambridge IGCSE, UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered in India only, and a parent in Al Riqqa who acts on an India date will miss an entry. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam when the wrong one was used. The school's exams officer, not a tutoring site, is the source for your child's zone.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, papers run in a May/June window and in November. The dated evidence is instructive about lead times: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Final entries close months before a paper is sat, which is why a decision to resit in November is really a decision made in late summer. Pearson publishes provisional timetables that it revises, so always work from the live official timetable.

For the IB Diploma, schools in this region sit the May session. We do not publish IB session or results dates on these pages, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date is worse than no date. Confirm every IB deadline with your school's Diploma coordinator. The budgeting rule survives the uncertainty: load the eight weeks before the papers, keep term time light, and book Internal Assessment sessions against the school's internal draft deadlines rather than the external ones.

08

What a tutor may and may not do with an IA, an Extended Essay or IGCSE coursework

  • Inside the line: criteria teaching, question scoping, feedback on the student's own drafts, oral rehearsal
  • Outside the line: drafting, rewriting, supplying data, editing to completion
  • Never buy a completed IA or Extended Essay, at any price
  • Keep the student's own draft history; it is the authenticity record

This boundary is worth more to a family than any discount, because getting it wrong costs the qualification rather than the fee. Some sites in this market sell completed Internal Assessments outright — one advertises them at AED 3,750. Buying one is academic malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the student, not the seller.

A tutor can do a great deal inside the line. They can teach the assessment criteria and what each criterion letter rewards. They can push a research question until it is narrow enough to be answerable with the equipment a school actually has. They can explain why a data set needs error bars, read a student's own draft and say which criterion is underserved, model an analysis on a different data set, teach referencing conventions, and rehearse an oral. All of that is teaching.

What a tutor cannot do is produce any part of the work. No drafting, no rewriting a paragraph into its final form, no supplying data, no editing to completion. IB Gram tutors give feedback on the student's own work and nothing beyond it, and they say so in the first session. If a tutor offers more than that, the correct response is to end the conversation, because the offer tells you what else they are willing to do.

The practical structure that respects the line also happens to be cheaper. Three or four discrete sessions timed around the school's own draft deadlines — scope, method, analysis, criterion review — does more than a weekly open-ended slot in which a student slowly hands over ownership. It also leaves a visible trail of the student's own drafts, which is exactly what a school asks for if a question about authenticity is ever raised.

When the specialist you need is not free: what we say instead of a waiting list

  • Scarce at short notice: Chemistry HL, Maths AA HL, Physics HL, smaller Group 3 subjects
  • You are told when the specialist is not free, with the alternatives named
  • A free trial lesson with the proposed tutor, with no card details taken
  • Specialist availability collapses six weeks before a series; ask earlier

No tutoring platform has every subject at every level free at 7pm Gulf Standard Time, and the ones that imply otherwise simply put a generalist in front of your child. For a family searching for an IB tutor in UAQ Marina, the subjects most likely to be unavailable at short notice are Chemistry HL, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL, Physics HL and the smaller Group 3 options.

When that happens, you get told. The options we put in front of a family are a different time slot with the right specialist, a different day of the week, a short-term match with a strong non-specialist for foundational work while the specialist slot is held, or a plain recommendation to wait two weeks rather than start badly. Nobody is charged for a match that does not happen, and no slot is confirmed against a tutor who has not agreed to it.

The trial lesson exists for this reason as well. One free lesson, no card details taken, with the actual tutor proposed for the actual subject, tells you in sixty minutes what a profile page cannot. If the fit is wrong, say so and the match changes; it costs nothing and it is a far better test than a review score of unknown provenance. Several providers in this market publish star ratings they cannot evidence, which is a reason to trust a trial lesson over a number.

The last thing worth saying about availability is that it is seasonal in a predictable way. The six weeks before a June series are when specialist slots vanish, and the families who get the tutor they wanted are the ones who asked in March rather than in May. If your child is sitting papers in the June series, the cheap time to buy is earlier than it feels.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around UAQ Marina

Umm Al Quwain is compact, and the practical difference between its neighbourhoods is how long the school run takes and therefore when a lesson can start. That is a scheduling fact with a price attached, so each area below carries its own timing note.

UAQ Marina

Waterfront villas and apartments on the Khor Al Beidah side, popular with families who commute to Sharjah or Ajman schools. A 6.30pm to 8.30pm online slot is the realistic school-night window once the drive home is done.

Al Salamah

One of the emirate's main residential districts, close to the corniche and the older town. Families here often run two children on different school buses, which makes staggered online slots cheaper than a single long in-home block.

Al Raas

Established housing near the old town and the UAQ lagoon. Shorter internal journeys than the newer developments, so an earlier 5.30pm start is sometimes possible for a primary-age MYP student.

Al Riqqa

On the Sharjah side of the emirate, which cuts the Sharjah school commute noticeably. Families here are the most likely to be offered an in-home visit, and therefore the most likely to be quoted the travel premium.

Al Humrah

Industrial and mixed-use with residential pockets, close to the Emirates Road corridor. Convenient for a Sharjah or Dubai commute, inconvenient for a tutor who then has to drive back through it at 9pm.

Al Haditha

Inland residential area with federal and private schooling nearby. Internationally-schooled children usually travel out, so weekend morning sessions work well here for IGCSE past-paper practice.

Falaj Al Mualla

The agricultural inland town, roughly 45 minutes from UAQ city. In-home tutoring is effectively unavailable at any sensible rate, which makes online one-to-one the only route to a named HL specialist.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in UAQ Marina

Sharjah commute cluster

Most Umm Al Quwain families with children on an IB or IGCSE route drive into Sharjah. Programme offerings change between academic years, so confirm what your child's year group actually sits with the school's own curriculum page before buying tutoring hours against it.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School
  • American School of Creative Science
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • Sharjah American International School

Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah commute cluster

The closer alternative for families in Al Riqqa and Al Salamah, and the main IB continuum option within a reasonable drive. Ras Al Khaimah is further but serves families in the north of the emirate who want a British route through to Diploma.

  • Ajman Academy
  • GEMS Our Own English High School Ajman
  • RAK Academy
  • Ras Al Khaimah English Speaking School
  • Scholars Indian School Ras Al Khaimah

Schools are named here as context for the Umm Al Quwain education market; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and programme details should be checked on each school's own site.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus code, not just the subject

"IGCSE Chemistry" could mean 0620 or 4CH1, Core or Extended, and the tier caps the grade. Tell us the code, the tier, the school and the year group, and the match narrows immediately. A screenshot of the last marked paper is more useful than any description of how the term has gone.

  2. 02

Get a named tutor and a reason

You receive a specific tutor with a specific reason for the match: the paper they teach most, the level they work at, the time they are free in Gulf Standard Time. If no suitable specialist is free for your window, you are told that rather than offered the nearest generalist.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One lesson, no charge and no card details taken, with the tutor proposed for the subject proposed. It is a teaching test, not a sales call: the tutor should find something specific in your child's work within the hour. If the fit is wrong, the match changes at no cost.

  4. 04

Fix a slot and a review date

Agree a weekly slot that survives the school run from UAQ Marina, usually between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, and set a review point six weeks out. Term-time structure should be light; the spend steps up in the weeks before the series, not across the whole year.

  5. 05

    Judge it on marked work

At the review point you should be looking at marked papers, criterion marks and a short written list of topics still at risk — not at a verbal impression. If the evidence is not there after six weeks, change the structure, the tutor or the plan rather than adding hours.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates are on the page, not behind a form

Three of the six best-ranking competitors in this market publish no price at all. Every band on this page is printed with the provider who published it, so you can tell whether a quote you have been given is normal. Our own number comes from the consultation after the free trial.

You pay for teaching hours, not driving hours

A tutor travelling into Umm Al Quwain prices in a 45 to 90 minute round trip, which is why in-home rates run AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 online for comparable teaching. Live video removes the trip, which also makes a 60-minute booking viable instead of a 120-minute one.

Tutors are chosen by syllabus, not by postcode

A UAQ Marina family and a Dubai Marina family see the same pool, because the only real constraint is who is free in the Gulf Standard Time evening window. That is the difference between a Chemistry HL specialist and whoever was willing to drive north on a Tuesday.

The academic-honesty line is stated, not implied

Tutors teach criteria, scope research questions and give feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not draft, rewrite or produce assessed work. Sites in this market sell completed Internal Assessments; we name that as malpractice because the student carries the consequence.

Availability is disclosed, including when it is bad

When no specialist covers a subject in your window, you are told, with the alternatives spelled out. No invented headcounts, no self-asserted star ratings, no statistic on this page without its source. The free trial lesson is the test we would rather be judged on.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in UAQ Marina: your questions answered

How much should a UAQ Marina family budget for an IB or IGCSE tutor?+

Work from published market bands rather than from a single quote. A qualified online subject tutor sits at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB. A named specialist runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home one-to-one is quoted AED 180 to 500 because travel is inside the rate. Monthly, Bestimate's estimates for a weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 plus for an exam-year specialist. Those are market figures, not IB Gram prices.

Is there actually an IB IGCSE tutor near me in UAQ Marina, or do they all live in Dubai?+

Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate and the pool of IB and IGCSE specialists physically based here is very small. Most tutors willing to travel live in Sharjah or Ajman and price the drive into their hourly rate. That is why we deliver one-to-one teaching over live video instead: the constraint becomes who is free at your slot rather than who lives within range. A UAQ Marina family and a Dubai family see the same specialists at the same rates, which is not true of in-home provision here.

Why does an in-home rate in Umm Al Quwain sit above an online rate for the same teaching?+

Because a round trip into UAQ Marina from Sharjah or Ajman takes 45 to 90 minutes on a school night and somebody has to pay for it. Published bands show the effect plainly: AED 180 to 500 for in-home against AED 150 to 300 for a comparable online subject tutor. The second cost is subtler. A travelling tutor needs 90 or 120 minutes to justify the trip, so the minimum booking grows, and you buy attention a teenager cannot sustain. Online, a 60-minute weekly session is viable, which keeps the monthly figure low.

What is the cheapest sensible way to start IGCSE support from this part of the emirate?+

One 60-minute online session a week in a single subject, with the syllabus code and tier confirmed first. Add a free trial lesson before any payment so you are not buying on a profile page. Keep term time at that level and hold the money back for the eight weeks before the June or November series, where timed-paper work and mark-scheme drilling do most of the grade movement. Resist starting three subjects in the same month: it produces a schedule no child follows and a bill that makes the whole thing feel like a failure.

Does a tutor charging AED 60 an hour ever make sense for my child?+

Sometimes, and it depends on what the problem is. The budget tier, advertised from AED 33 to 65 by providers such as Tutopiya and EdFlik, buys supervision and worked examples. For a disorganised MYP 3 student who simply does not start the homework, that is a reasonable purchase. For a DP2 candidate who needs someone to read a Paper 2 script and name which command term was misread, it is not, and four cheap hours will not add up to one capable one. Match the tier to the failure mode rather than to the budget.

Do tutors working with Umm Al Quwain families need a permit from the authorities?+

Yes. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which u.ae states is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone tutoring privately without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of amounts has been published, so treat any specific figure you read elsewhere as unverified.

Which authority oversees the private schools that children from UAQ Marina attend?+

It depends on where the school is. For schools inside Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Fujairah, u.ae describes the federal Ministry of Education as holding the supervisory role. Dubai schools answer to KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to ADEK, Sharjah to the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge. Since many UAQ Marina children commute to Sharjah, SPEA is often the relevant body in practice, and it approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods rather than merely inspecting.

Which Cambridge IGCSE exam series do candidates in Umm Al Quwain actually sit?+

The June series and the November series. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only, so any site quoting a February or March exam window or a late-November entry deadline to a UAE parent is giving you the wrong country's calendar. One further detail matters: every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge says it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong one was used. Get the zone from the school's exams officer.

When do Pearson Edexcel International GCSE results arrive after a November sitting?+

In January. The dated evidence from Pearson's own timetable pages: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, and the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. For the summer route, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. The practical consequence for budgeting is that a resit decision is effectively made in late summer, because final entries close months ahead of the papers. Pearson revises provisional timetables, so work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

How many IGCSE subjects does UAE Ministry of Education equivalency count for the British track?+

Five. Gulf Today's reporting on the clarified requirements states that students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited Advanced Level subject at grade E or better, or two accredited Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject figure, which is wrong. No IB points threshold should be trusted unless you have read it on moe.gov.ae or the attestation authority's own page.

Can a UAQ Marina tutor help with my daughter's Internal Assessment without crossing an academic-honesty line?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can teach what each criterion rewards, narrow a research question until it is answerable with the school's equipment, explain uncertainty and error treatment, read your daughter's own draft and say which criterion is underserved, model an analysis on different data, and rehearse an oral. A tutor cannot draft, rewrite, supply data or edit to completion. Some sites in this market sell finished Internal Assessments outright; buying one is malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student. Keep the student's own draft history as the authenticity record.

Is tutoring priced per hour or per lesson, and does a longer session cost more per hour?+

Across this market it is usually priced per hour and billed per session, which is why session length changes your monthly total more than the headline rate does. A tutor who travels needs a 90 or 120 minute booking to make the trip pay, so the hourly rate may look reasonable while the monthly figure is double what you planned. Packaged offers behave differently again: market bundles seen online include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Check what a package commits to before buying the discount.

What happens to the cost if no Chemistry HL specialist is free for our evening slot?+

You are told, and nothing is charged for a match that does not happen. The options are a different time in the Gulf Standard Time evening window, a different day, a short-term match with a strong non-specialist for foundational work while the specialist slot is held, or a recommendation to wait rather than start badly. Chemistry HL, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL, Physics HL and the smaller Group 3 subjects are the ones most often unavailable at short notice, and availability tightens sharply in the six weeks before a series.

Can sessions move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan without a rescheduling charge?+

Yes, and this is one of the clearer practical advantages of online delivery for families in this emirate. School hours shorten during Ramadan and the useful study window shifts late, so sessions commonly move to a post-Iftar slot or to early morning. Because nobody is planning a drive to UAQ Marina, moving a slot costs nothing and is usually agreed a week ahead. A travelling tutor has to re-plan a journey for every change, which is why in-home arrangements tend to lose weeks during Ramadan and the early revision period after it.

What should I check about a tutor before I pay anything at all?+

Four things. Ask which syllabus code and tier they teach most, because "IGCSE Chemistry" alone tells you nothing about 0620 Core against 4CH1. Ask whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free, so there is no reason not to. Ask them to separate teaching from travel in any in-home quote. Then take a trial lesson and watch whether they identify something specific in your child's marked work within the hour. Treat unevidenced star ratings and unsourced success percentages as what they are: marketing, not information.
