IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Riqqa

Parents hunting for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Riqqa are usually asking a narrower question than the search box allows: is there anyone nearby who has actually taught this syllabus? Al Riqqa sits at the Ajman end of Umm Al Quwain, and for Cambridge 0620 Chemistry or Pearson 4PH1 Physics the honest local answer is often no. We answer it with specialists over live video.

  • Matched by syllabus code and tier, Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel
  • Coverage stated subject by subject, including where it runs out
  • One-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time
  • UAE candidates sit the Cambridge June and November series

IB & IGCSE in Al Riqqa

The question behind the search: who has actually taught this specification?

A parent in Al Riqqa does not really want a tutor who lives nearby. They want somebody who has taught their child's exact course and can say, without looking it up, where candidates lose marks on it. Proximity is a proxy people use because search engines offer it. The proxy is poor, and in a small emirate it is actively misleading.

Start with what the course actually is. "IGCSE Maths" is not one qualification. Cambridge 0580 is tiered into Core, capped at grade C, and Extended, reaching A*. Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 is untiered and awards 9 to 1. The papers are structured differently, the calculator rules differ, and the mark schemes reward different things. The same is true across the subjects: 0625 and 4PH1 in Physics, 0620 and 4CH1 in Chemistry, 0610 and 4BI1 in Biology. A tutor who has taught one of a pair is competent on the other and slightly out of position, and at the top of the grade range slightly out of position is the whole difference.

Now the supply question, answered honestly. Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate. Its private international school set is small, and most internationally schooled students from Al Riqqa commute out to Ajman, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah. Specialist teachers exist roughly in proportion to the number of students sitting a specification, so the number of people within a short drive of Al Riqqa who have taken cohorts through Cambridge 0620 Extended is small. For the less commonly taught subjects it is often nobody at all, at any price.

That is not a counsel of despair, because the constraint is local supply rather than supply. Somewhere there are teachers who have taught 0620 Extended for five years and know that the moles questions and the Paper 6 apparatus descriptions are where the marks go. IB Gram matches your child to one of them and runs the session over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. The market does supply in-home visits at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour on published 2026 figures, with the drive inside the rate, and this page gives you those numbers rather than hiding them.

The rest of the page is built to make you a harder customer. There is a subject-by-subject account of where local supply runs out, the three questions that identify a genuine specialist in under a minute, what the market charges and who published each figure, the June and November series with the administrative-zone rule that catches families out, a breakdown of where IGCSE marks are really lost, the regulator map, and the five IGCSE passes the Ministry of Education counts towards equivalency.

At a glance

  • Cambridge tiers most IGCSE subjects: Core caps at grade C, Extended reaches A*
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is untiered in most subjects and awards 9 to 1
  • UAE candidates sit Cambridge in June and November; the February/March series is India-only
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November
  • Umm Al Quwain private schools answer to the federal Ministry of Education
  • Al Riqqa is the closest part of the emirate to the Ajman border and school corridor
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The supply question changes shape depending on where your child is in the course. These are the three stages and what a specialist is needed for at each.

KS3Ages 11-14

Years 7 to 9, before the specification begins

Nothing is externally assessed yet, so specification knowledge matters least here and general teaching quality matters most. The things being built are algebraic fluency, reading stamina and the ability to write a structured explanation, and all three decide IGCSE grades two or three years later.

For an Al Riqqa family this is the one stage where a local generalist is genuinely a reasonable choice, because there is no syllabus to know yet. It is also the cheapest and least used intervention: fixing number fluency in Year 8 costs a fraction of repairing it in Year 11, when a specialist is needed and the clock is running.

IGCSE-Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10, the first IGCSE year

Roughly half the specification is taught and the Cambridge tier decision is made. Core and Extended diverge here, and the choice sets the grade ceiling for two years. In the sciences the practical skills work begins properly, and in Maths the algebra the final papers depend on is introduced.

Specification knowledge starts to matter in Year 10, and this is the stage at which the local pool begins to fail an Al Riqqa family. A tutor who does not know whether your child is on 0580 Core, 0580 Extended or 4MA1 cannot give useful advice on the tier decision, and the tier decision is the most consequential one of the year.

IGCSE-Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11, the exam year

Specification completion plus past-paper technique, and most of the available marks sit in the second. Mark schemes reward specific wording, specific working and specific units, so a student who knows the content but not the scheme loses method marks on every paper. Alternative-to-practical papers reward apparatus precision theory revision never supplies.

This is where only a specialist will do, and where the local pool in Umm Al Quwain is thinnest. An Al Riqqa Year 11 student sits their papers at their school's centre, usually in Ajman or Sharjah, which carries its own Cambridge administrative zone and therefore its own timetable version.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE subjects Al Riqqa families ask for, with the codes and the specific places candidates lose marks. Ask any prospective tutor to do the same from memory.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1

Extended reaches A* and Core stops at C, making the tier the biggest decision of Year 10. Marks go on transformations, bounds, and the last part of multi-step problems where method marks were available for working the student never wrote down.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Electricity is the predictable collapse topic, and the alternative-to-practical paper punishes students who have read about circuits but never described a workable method. Pearson's paper structure and formula-sheet treatment differ from Cambridge's, which is exactly why the code matters.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Moles calculations and organic naming carry the marks. Cambridge 0620 Paper 6 rewards precision about apparatus, observation and safety that no textbook summary supplies. Unbalanced equations cost marks in questions the student otherwise answered correctly.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Looks like recall, is marked like precision. Command terms decide the mark: describe, explain, suggest and compare each want a different answer shape. Enzymes, transport in plants and genetics are where timed performance usually collapses.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990 · Pearson 4EA1

Reading questions are marked against specific skills rather than general comprehension, and directed writing is assessed on audience and form as much as content. A fluent writer who ignores the stated purpose of the task loses marks that have nothing to do with their English.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450 · Pearson 4BS1

The case study decides the grade. Candidates who revise definitions and ignore the stimulus write generic answers and lose the high-tariff marks. Application to the named business is the assessed skill, and it is among the fastest improvements available at this level.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 · Pearson 4EC1

Diagrams carry marks and most candidates draw them carelessly: unlabelled axes, no shifted curve, no new equilibrium marked. Evaluation questions want a judgement supported by the analysis already written, not a fresh argument introduced in the final line.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Pseudocode, trace tables and logic gates are mechanical marks thrown away for want of practice rather than understanding. Database and networking topics are taught thinly in small cohorts, which is precisely the shortage a commuting Umm Al Quwain student meets.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Taken by strong mathematicians heading for A-Level or the IB Diploma. Calculus, trigonometric identities and logarithms arrive early, and the step in algebraic demand from 0580 Extended is steeper in the first term than most students expect.

Arabic

First language and additional language

Federal rules require UAE private schools to teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies whatever curriculum they are licensed to deliver. Tutoring means supporting the school's own prescribed material, since different or additional content may not be used for mandatory subjects without Ministry permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, chosen by what the student needs rather than by what is easiest to sell.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

One or two sessions a week across Year 10 and Year 11, working from the school's own scheme of work rather than a generic syllabus order. The tutor is matched to the exact code and tier and asks for the school's assessment calendar in the first session. This is the format that changes a tier outcome, because the evidence accumulates.

  • Code and tier confirmed before the first session
  • Session notes recording what was covered and set
  • Best begun in Year 10, while the tier decision is still open

Series intensive before June or November

A compressed block aimed at a named series, built on past-paper diagnosis rather than content coverage. Find the question types where marks are reliably lost, drill those, and leave alone what the student already handles. It cannot install two years of missing specification, and we say so before anyone books.

  • Built backwards from the official timetable for that series
  • Mark-scheme-led: the exact wording and working examiners reward
  • Realistic about what a short block can and cannot repair

Specification diagnostic

Three or four sessions to answer one question with evidence: is this a Core or an Extended candidate, why do the marks not match the understanding, what has the board change left open. The output is a written analysis you can take to the school, which carries more weight than a parent's impression.

  • Timed past-paper questions marked against the official scheme
  • Lost marks sorted by cause rather than by topic
  • A written conclusion rather than a verbal opinion

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Riqqa

01

Subject by subject, where the local supply runs out

Generic claims about tutor availability are useless, so here is the specific version. Specialist supply tracks the number of students sitting a specification. In a small emirate that means Maths and the three sciences are reasonably covered, because almost every candidate takes them, and everything else thins out fast.

Maths at both boards is the easiest to staff: every IGCSE student sits it, so every school has several teachers of it and some of them tutor. Physics, Chemistry and Biology follow, though the Cambridge and Pearson split halves each pool, and a family on 4CH1 cannot assume the local 0620 teacher is the right match. English Language is widely taught but unevenly tutored, because marking directed writing against the scheme is a specific skill that general English teaching does not confer.

Then the drop. Business Studies, Economics and Computer Science are taken by a fraction of a cohort, and in a school with a hundred IGCSE candidates that may be fifteen students and one teacher. If that teacher is unavailable, or cannot tutor students from their own school, there is no local second option. Additional Mathematics is rarer still. The mandatory UAE subjects sit in their own category, because tutoring them means supporting the school's prescribed material rather than teaching freely.

The table below is the honest coverage picture, and it is the thing no competitor page publishes. Of the pages examined for this project in October 2026, none discloses a coverage limit anywhere. We publish ours because a disclosed gap costs a conversation and a concealed one costs a term.

Three questions that identify a real IGCSE specialist in a minute

  • Which syllabus code and tier, and how many cohorts through it?
  • Which paper do candidates reliably lose marks on, and why?
  • What would you ask me for before the first session?
  • If examiner status is claimed, can it be evidenced as current?

A parent cannot assess subject expertise directly, but they can assess it indirectly, and it takes less time than most people spend reading reviews. These three questions do almost all the work, and a genuine specialist answers all three without hesitation or preparation.

First: which syllabus code and tier, and how many cohorts have you taken through it? The answer should be a number and a code: five cohorts of 0580 Extended, three of 4MA1. Vagueness here is the whole answer. Second: which paper do candidates reliably lose marks on in this specification, and why? A specialist names a paper and a failure mode in one sentence — Paper 6 apparatus descriptions, Paper 4 multi-step working, electricity in Paper 2. Somebody who has not taught it redirects to their degree subject or their years of experience in education generally.

Third, and most revealing: what would you ask me for before the first session? The right answer is the statement of entry or the exam entry slip, so they can confirm the code and tier, plus any marked work. A tutor who does not ask for the code is planning to teach the subject rather than the specification, and at the top of the grade range those are different jobs.

A fourth question is worth adding where a tutor claims examiner status: can you evidence that it is current? Examiner claims are unverifiable from a website and are often used to imply access to marking standards, boundaries or paper content that nobody outside the process has. We do not describe tutors as examiners unless the status can be evidenced, and we never use it to imply access of that kind.

03

Why a small cohort cannot staff a specification twice

  • Tutoring supply mirrors school staffing, which mirrors enrolment
  • A subject with fifteen candidates in a school supports one teacher, not two
  • Permit and ethics rules can bar a teacher from tutoring their own school's students
  • Searching a wider area inside a small emirate adds very little

The supply problem in Umm Al Quwain is structural rather than accidental, and understanding the mechanism saves a family from assuming they have searched badly. Schools staff subjects in proportion to enrolment. A school with a hundred IGCSE candidates needs several Maths teachers and perhaps one Business Studies teacher. A school with three hundred needs three.

Private tutors are drawn from that same population, which is why tutoring supply mirrors school staffing and why it is lumpy rather than smooth. There is no mechanism by which a neighbourhood produces a Computer Science 0478 specialist in the absence of students taking 0478. Searching harder within the emirate does not create one. This is also why the pages for Al Riqqa, Al Raas, Al Salamah and UAQ Marina honestly give the same answer: they are drawing on one small pool.

There is a second constraint on top of the first. A school's own teacher is often not available to tutor the school's own students. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. So the one local specialist your child's school employs may be exactly the person who cannot help.

The way out is to stop treating the emirate as the market. The pool of people who have taught Cambridge 0455 Economics is national and international, and a live video lesson reaches all of it. That is the whole of the argument, and it is stronger here than almost anywhere in the UAE precisely because the local pool is so small.

04

What IGCSE tuition costs here, and who published the figure

Three of the six competitor pages examined for this project in October 2026 published no price at all, and two quoted US dollars, which no Al Riqqa household transacts in. These bands come from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, and they describe the market rather than IB Gram's charges.

What a step up actually buys is worth separating from what it costs. Budget online tutoring runs AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, and buys availability rather than specification knowledge. A qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150, buys subject training. A specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, buys the code-specific and tier-specific experience this whole page is about. Premium named tutors run AED 500 to 650 or above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500, and the drive is inside the figure. Al Riqqa is the best-placed address in the emirate for that drive, which puts a local in-home quote towards the lower end of the band, and even so the money is buying road as well as teaching. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240 to 600 for budget weekly support, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work; published packages include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions.

Before accepting a quote, ask whether it is per hour or per session, whether it includes VAT, what a cancellation inside 24 hours costs, whether the rate rises before a series, and what happens if the tutor turns out to teach a different board. The last is the question this page exists to make you ask.

June, November and the zone rule nobody mentions

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. UAE candidates sit June and November. The February/March series is offered to India only, so a page quoting a March exam window to an Al Riqqa family is quoting a different country's calendar, and that is a date a parent would act on.

The part almost nobody publishes is the zone rule. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says plainly that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The zone belongs to the centre. For an Al Riqqa student the centre is almost certainly their school in Ajman or Sharjah, so the right question for the exams officer is which zone the centre sits in — not which timetable turned up in a search.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, exams run in May/June and in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those past dates establish the pattern — a November series means January results — which matters if a sixth-form or university application is in train. Pearson publishes provisional timetables and revises them, so take exact dates from the live official timetable.

Read the table below as a chain. The rows near the top are set by the school and fall months before the papers, and they are the ones families routinely miss while watching for an exam date.

What a specialist does that a generalist cannot

This is the practical core of the supply argument. If a generalist and a specialist both understand the topic, why does the specialist produce a different grade? Because most IGCSE underperformance is not a knowledge gap. It is a mark-scheme gap, and mark schemes are specification-specific.

A specialist knows that Cambridge 0620 Paper 6 wants apparatus named, a method that would actually work, and an observation that could actually be seen, and that vague competence scores nothing there. They know that 0580 Extended awards method marks for working a student can be trained to always write down. They know which command terms recur in which paper and what each one demands. A generalist teaching the same topic teaches the chemistry, which the student may already have, and leaves the marks on the table.

The diagnosis has to come from marked papers rather than from conversation. Take four or five past papers, mark them against the official scheme, and sort every lost mark by cause: content not known, method not shown, command term misread, units or notation, time ran out. The distribution is almost always lopsided, and it tells you precisely what the next six sessions should contain. Most families have never seen their child's losses sorted this way, and the sorting is the cheapest useful thing available.

What responds fast: showing working so method marks survive a wrong answer; answering the command term rather than the topic; significant figures; labelled diagrams; apparatus precision in the practical papers. What responds slowly: two years of missing algebra. Anyone promising the second inside six weeks is selling you something, and a specialist will tell you which category your child is in.

The regulator map, and the approval nobody holds

Al Riqqa sits in Umm Al Quwain, where private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, as they are in Ajman and Fujairah. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, activities and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge on the same model. Dubai has KHDA, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, and Abu Dhabi has ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools. Those five bodies are the complete map.

A family here frequently lives under one and schools under another, which matters when a fee or curriculum question needs answering: the question follows the school rather than your address. It does not matter at all for tutoring, because none of those bodies licenses or approves individual tutors or tutoring platforms.

Tutoring is regulated separately. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers applicants including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so this page quotes none, and any specific amount circulating should be treated as unverified. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

The consequence is a sentence worth being blunt about. No tutoring provider in this country can honestly describe itself as approved or accredited by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. IB Gram holds no such permit, no accreditation from any UAE authority, no partnership with Cambridge or Pearson, and is not an examination centre. We explain what each body does and link to it, which is the only honest use of those names.

Five IGCSE passes: the equivalency rule worth knowing in Year 10

  • Five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that five-subject count
  • One A-Level at E, or two AS-Levels at E, completes the British track
  • A Core-tier pass counts, so equivalency is not a reason to force Extended

An Al Riqqa student finishing IGCSEs and applying to a UAE institution meets the Ministry of Education's equivalency process, which converts a foreign school certificate into something UAE universities and employers can read. Knowing the rule in Year 10 rather than after results day is worth real money, because it constrains subject choices while they are still changeable.

The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, together with either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. At least one ranking competitor page publishes a six-subject requirement, which is incorrect, and a family planning against the wrong number makes a real mistake.

There is a tier consequence buried in that rule. A Core-tier pass at grade C or D meets the no-less-than-E standard, so the equivalency floor is not a reason to push a borderline student into Extended. The reason to aim for Extended is a degree course asking for higher grades or an A-Level subject that needs Extended content as its foundation. Separating those two questions stops the tier decision being made for the wrong reason, which happens often.

Two cautions. Equivalency is a Ministry process: IB Gram does not perform it, expedite it or guarantee an outcome, and we point you to the official channel rather than offering to handle it. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression. A provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process.

09

What we say when the honest answer is no

  • Coverage named before you commit, including when the answer is a wait
  • Tutor location stated before the first session, not after
  • A free trial lesson with no minimum booking attached
  • A rematch in week one costs an hour; one in week six costs a term

Everything above leads to a commitment, and it is the part of this page we would most like a parent to hold us to. If no specialist in your child's board, code and tier is free in the hours an Al Riqqa school run leaves, we will say so rather than filling the slot.

That matters most in exactly the subjects this page has been honest about: Computer Science 0478, Additional Mathematics 0606, Economics and Business Studies on the less common of the two boards. In those cases the options are a different evening with the right person, a specialist based outside the UAE working to Gulf Standard Time, or a wait. We name which one applies. We do not substitute a competent generalist and let you discover in week three that your child is being taught the subject rather than the specification.

No competitor page examined for this project discloses a coverage limit anywhere, and several conceal non-UAE delivery behind a non-UAE phone number. If the specialist who fits your child is not based in the UAE, the lesson still runs over live video on your timetable and we tell you where they are before the first session rather than after it.

The matching conversation is short: the board code and tier from the statement of entry, the school and its assessment calendar, the two or three things the student keeps losing marks on, and the hours that work after the Ajman run. A free trial lesson follows, with no minimum booking attached, so you can judge the match rather than take our word for it. If the fit is wrong, say so in week one and we will change it.

Where we tutor

Al Riqqa and the emirate around it, by specialist supply

These notes answer the only local question worth asking: does moving the search to the next neighbourhood add anybody who knows the syllabus. Mostly it does not, and here is why.

Al Riqqa

Closest part of Umm Al Quwain to the Ajman border, so the shortest school run and the widest evening window in the emirate. A session can sometimes start at 17:00. The local pool of named-specification IGCSE specialists remains very small.

Al Raas

The older quarter by the creek, a few minutes further from the Ajman road. Draws on the same pool. Families who search Al Riqqa, then Al Raas, then the Marina, find the same handful of names and conclude the emirate has no tutors, which is half right.

Al Salamah

Inland and residential, on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road route. Adds housing and no subject specialists, and the afternoon road leg here is the one most likely to make a fixed appointment slip by twenty minutes.

UAQ Marina

Coastal and newer, roughly fifteen minutes further from the Ajman and Sharjah corridors. Later realistic session start, identical supply. The constraint is the size of the emirate, not where you sit within it.

Umm Al Quwain city centre

Where the emirate's own private schools sit, under federal Ministry of Education supervision. Locally schooled students have a shorter day and more usable evening, but a smaller cohort means fewer subjects offered and fewer specialist teachers produced.

Falaj Al Mualla

Deep inland with a long run to any international school. A radius search from here reaches almost nothing, which makes it the clearest demonstration that distance is the wrong filter for a syllabus specialist.

Ajman and Sharjah school corridor

Where the schools are, where the teachers are, and where your child's exam centre almost certainly sits. The centre's Cambridge administrative zone governs which timetable version applies, so ask the exams officer rather than assuming.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Riqqa

Umm Al Quwain, including Al Riqqa

Private schools here are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority, so there is no local inspection portal to consult. The practical question to ask a school is which board it enters candidates for and, for Cambridge, which tier it intends, because both decide what tutoring is useful.

  • Emirates National Schools Umm Al Quwain
  • Umm Al Quwain English Private School
  • Al Ameer English School
  • The Westminster School Umm Al Quwain

Ajman and Sharjah, where Al Riqqa candidates sit papers

Sharjah private schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods. Ajman sits under the federal Ministry of Education. The exam centre's administrative zone, not your home address, determines which Cambridge timetable version applies to your child.

  • Ajman Academy
  • The Millennium School Sharjah
  • GEMS Millennium School Sharjah
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah

Schools are named as context for the education ecosystem Al Riqqa families actually use. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and each name should be verified against the relevant regulator's own current listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Read the code off the statement of entry

Cambridge 0580, 0625, 0620, 0610, 0450, 0455, 0478, or Pearson 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1, and for Cambridge the tier as well. The exams officer will confirm it. Those few characters decide which specialist your child needs, and a provider who quotes without asking for them is telling you something.

  2. 02

    Ask us the three questions

Which code and tier and how many cohorts; which paper candidates lose marks on and why; what we would ask you for before the first session. Put the same three to anyone else you are considering. The answers separate a specification specialist from a competent subject teacher in about a minute.

  3. 03

    Send four marked past papers

Marked work beats a description of the problem. We sort the lost marks by cause, which usually shows a lopsided distribution nobody in the family has seen, and that distribution decides what the first six sessions contain rather than a sweep through the syllabus.

  4. 04

Take the free trial in the real slot, then review against marks

One session, no minimum booking, at the hour you would genuinely use — often around 17:00 from Al Riqqa with an Ajman school. Then every six weeks, compare the plan against marked evidence. If nothing has moved on what you targeted, change the plan or the tutor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The supply question answered subject by subject

Rather than claiming coverage everywhere, this page says where local supply runs out: Maths and the sciences are reasonably staffed in the northern emirates, and Computer Science, Additional Mathematics and the Business pair usually are not. That is the information a parent in Al Riqqa actually needs.

Matched by code and tier, not by subject name

Cambridge 0580 Extended and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams with different mark schemes, and the tutor who knows one is not automatically right for the other. We confirm the code and tier before the first session, because at the top of the grade range that is where the difference lives.

A test you can apply to anyone

Three questions identify a specification specialist in under a minute: code and cohorts, the paper where marks go and why, and what they would ask you for first. We publish them knowing they will be used on us as readily as on anyone else.

Exam dates correct for the UAE

UAE Cambridge candidates sit June and November; the February/March series is India-only. We also publish the administrative-zone rule, because Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who used the wrong zone's timetable, and the zone belongs to the exam centre.

Every AED figure sourced and dated

The rate bands here are attributed to the provider or survey that published them, read in October 2026, and presented as the market rather than our price. Three of six competitor pages examined published no price at all, and two quoted US dollars to families who pay in dirhams.

No approval claims and no invented statistics

IB Gram holds no approval from KHDA, ADEK or SPEA, no Ministry accreditation, no partnership with Cambridge or Pearson, and is not an examination centre. You will find no pass rate, satisfaction score or star rating here, because we cannot produce the data behind one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Riqqa: your questions answered

Is there anyone near Al Riqqa who actually knows my child's IGCSE syllabus?+

For Maths and the three sciences, possibly: those subjects are taken by nearly every candidate so every school staffs them and some of those teachers tutor. For Business Studies, Economics, Computer Science or Additional Mathematics, usually not, because a small cohort supports one teacher rather than two. That is a structural feature of the least populous emirate, not a failure of your search. Matching on the syllabus code and teaching over live video solves it.

Does IB Gram send tutors to Al Riqqa homes?+

No. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. All UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The market does supply in-home tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour on published 2026 figures, with the drive inside the rate. Al Riqqa is the shortest drive in the emirate from the Ajman corridor, so a local quote should sit at the lower end.

How do I check a tutor really knows the specification?+

Ask three things. Which syllabus code and tier, and how many cohorts have you taken through it. Which paper do candidates reliably lose marks on in this specification, and why. And what would you ask me for before the first session. A specialist answers with a code, a number, a named paper and a failure mode, and asks for the statement of entry. Anyone who redirects to their degree subject has told you what you needed to know.

Why can't my child's own teacher tutor them privately?+

Sometimes they can and often they may not. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. In a small emirate that means the one local specialist in a minority subject may be precisely the person who cannot help your child.

Does searching a wider area in Umm Al Quwain help?+

Barely. Al Raas, Al Salamah and UAQ Marina draw on the same small pool as Al Riqqa, because the constraint is the size of the emirate rather than your position inside it. The first real increase comes at the Ajman urban edge and the next in northern Sharjah, and a tutor travelling from there is charging you for the drive inside their hourly rate. Online delivery reaches the full pool without that cost.

Which IGCSE board is my child actually sitting?+

Check the statement of entry or ask the exams officer. You want a code: Cambridge 0580, 0625, 0620, 0610, or Pearson 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1. For Cambridge you also want the tier, Core or Extended. Those characters decide which papers your child sits, how marks are awarded and therefore which tutor fits. Cambridge and Pearson differ on tiering, paper structure, calculator rules and practical assessment, so the code is not a detail.

Which series do UAE candidates sit?+

Cambridge candidates in the UAE sit the June series and the November series. The February/March series is offered to India only, so disregard any page quoting a March window here. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. Cambridge also allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and says it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who used the wrong one, so ask which zone your centre sits in.

Why does the timetable zone depend on the school rather than our address?+

Because the zone is allocated to the exam centre, and the centre is the school that enters your child. For an Al Riqqa family that is almost always a school in Ajman or Sharjah rather than anything in Umm Al Quwain. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone. The practical step is to ask the exams officer for the zone in writing, and then work from that version only.

My child understands the subject but the marks are low. Why?+

Almost always a mark-scheme gap rather than a knowledge gap. Marks go on working shown, the command term answered, units given, significant figures correct and diagrams labelled, and a student can understand a topic thoroughly while losing marks on all five. The fix is to mark four or five past papers against the official scheme and sort every lost mark by cause. The distribution is usually lopsided and it tells you what the next sessions should contain.

What should IGCSE tuition cost in the northern emirates?+

Published UAE market rates read in October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150, and budget online tutoring from around AED 45. Code and tier specialists run AED 200 to 450 or more. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 500 with the drive inside the figure. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 600 to 1,200 for a weekly hour with a qualified tutor.

Is Core or Extended the better entry for a student in the middle?+

Decide it on timed evidence rather than classwork, because both wrong answers are costly. Core caps the grade at C for two years; Extended entry for a student who cannot finish a paper under timing scores below their Core potential. Three or four sessions of Extended-standard past-paper questions under real timing, marked against the official scheme, produce a defensible conclusion. Schools listen to that because it is the same kind of evidence they use themselves.

Does a Core grade still count for UAE equivalency?+

Yes. The Ministry's British-track rule asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or grade 3, and a Core-tier pass meets that standard. So equivalency is not a reason to push a borderline student into Extended. The reason to aim for Extended is a degree course that asks for higher grades or an A-Level subject needing Extended content as its foundation. Verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae before relying on it.

Can a tutor claim to be approved by the Ministry of Education?+

No, and the claim should end the conversation. The Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Fujairah; KHDA, ADEK, SPEA and the RAK Department of Knowledge cover the other emirates. None of them approves or accredits tutors or tutoring platforms. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence for training institutes with premises in Dubai. IB Gram holds no such permit and no accreditation from any UAE authority.

What happens if nobody covers my child's subject at our hour?+

We tell you before you commit and name the options: a different evening with the right specialist, a specialist based outside the UAE working to Gulf Standard Time, or a wait. For subjects like Computer Science 0478 or Additional Mathematics 0606 the wait is sometimes the right answer. We do not substitute a competent generalist and let you discover in week three that your child is being taught the subject rather than the specification.

How late is too late to start before a series?+

Six weeks is late and still useful; two weeks is mostly triage. In six weeks a specialist can change how a student handles the question types losing them the most marks, fix working and notation habits, and make them faster under timing. What six weeks cannot do is install two years of missing content, and anyone saying otherwise is selling you something. The honest plan at that point is to pick three high-yield question types from marked evidence.

Ask the three questions, of us as much as anyone

The search that brought you here deserves a straight answer, and it is this: within a short drive of Al Riqqa there may be somebody who knows Cambridge 0580, and there probably is not somebody who knows 0478 or 0606, because a small cohort cannot staff a minority subject twice. Read the code off the statement of entry, send it with four marked past papers and the hour your child is genuinely at a desk, and put the three questions to us. If the honest answer is that nobody suitable is free in that window, that is what you will hear.
