IB Home Tutor in Al Raas

Families comparing an IB home tutor in Al Raas against one in UAQ Marina or Al Salamah are comparing fifteen minutes of driving. Al Raas sits in the older part of Umm Al Quwain city, nearer the creek, and the Ajman run is slightly shorter from here. None of that changes which specialist has taught your child's Higher Level course, which is why IB Gram matches on subject and teaches over live video.

  • Matched on Higher Level subject experience, not on driving distance
  • One-to-one over live video, Gulf Standard Time, recorded for revision
  • Umm Al Quwain private schools sit under the federal Ministry of Education

IB & IGCSE in Al Raas

Al Raas or UAQ Marina: the comparison most parents start with

A family deciding where to look for a tutor usually begins by narrowing the map. Al Raas against UAQ Marina, Al Raas against Al Salamah, Al Raas against Al Riqqa. The instinct is sound for anything that has to physically arrive. It does almost nothing for tutoring, and the reason is worth spelling out, because it saves a lot of wasted searching.

Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate. Its private international school provision is small, and a small cohort cannot staff the full spread of Diploma subjects. So most internationally schooled students from Al Raas commute out: to Ajman, which is the shortest run available from anywhere in the emirate and shorter still from Al Raas, or to Sharjah, or north to Ras Al Khaimah. That is true of UAQ Marina too, with roughly fifteen minutes more driving. The practical difference between the two neighbourhoods is a quarter of an hour of evening.

Now set that against what you are actually buying. A Diploma student needs somebody who has taught their specific subject at their specific level, knows where the marks go in Paper 2, and can tell the difference between an Internal Assessment that will sit mid-band and one that will reach the top criteria. In a thinly populated emirate, the number of such people inside a twenty-minute radius of either Al Raas or UAQ Marina is very small, and for a subject like Economics HL or Environmental Systems and Societies it may be zero. Fifteen minutes of driving does not change a zero.

That is the comparison answered honestly: the two areas differ, the answer does not. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India. We match your child to the specialist who has taught the course, wherever that person is, and run the session over live video on your timetable. The market does supply in-home visits across the UAE at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour on published 2026 figures, with the drive folded into the rate, and this page sets out what that premium buys so you can judge it rather than take our word.

The fifteen-minute difference is real and it is the whole of the difference. What follows is built around the comparison rather than around a sales pitch, because a parent who understands why the areas converge stops searching by map and starts searching by syllabus, which is a faster route to the right tutor and a cheaper one. There is a neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood table of what actually differs, a sourced table of UAE market rates, an online-against-in-home comparison, the Diploma year counted backwards from the May session, the regulator map across the school commute, the academic-honesty boundary on coursework, and the Ministry of Education equivalency rules your child will meet when applying to a UAE university.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three entry points bring Al Raas families to this page: a Middle Years student heading into the Diploma, a DP1 student meeting coursework deadlines, and a DP2 student in the final run-in. The comparison between neighbourhoods matters least at the top of that list.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each out of eight, converted to a 1-7 grade through subject-specific boundaries. No external paper arrives before the optional eAssessment, so a student can go years without an externally benchmarked mark. The criteria have names and the marks are awarded against them, which almost nobody teaches explicitly.

In Umm Al Quwain the MYP to DP step often coincides with a change of school, because the local set rarely offers both. An Al Raas student may move from an Ajman school to a Sharjah one and meet a new timetable and a new teaching style at once. The spring before DP1 is the cheapest place to absorb that shock.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Grades run 1-7 with up to three bonus points from the TOK and EE matrix. Higher Level carries 240 teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level, and in most sciences the HL extension sits on its own paper.

UAE schools sit the May session. For an Al Raas student the dates that bind are the coordinator's internal coursework deadlines, which fall through DP1 and into DP2 and do not move. Build the year around those rather than around the exam window, and use the terms before the pressure arrives.

COREAcross both Diploma years

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS

Up to three points come from the TOK and EE combination, and the core is where students lose ground quietly because nothing is marked weekly. The Extended Essay is 4,000 words with a supervisor; TOK is an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title. CAS is not graded but is required for the Diploma to be awarded.

Core work needs unbroken thinking time rather than a scheduled lesson, and a commuting Al Raas student has less of it midweek than a classmate living beside the school. Weekend sessions are worth more here than midweek ones, and we schedule them on purpose rather than as an afterthought.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects Al Raas families ask about most, with what each assesses and where marks actually go. A tutor who cannot name the paper carrying the weight has not taught the course.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The proof-and-algebra route. HL adds complex numbers, vectors and induction, and Paper 3 is a two-problem investigation worth 20% of the HL grade. Paper 3 is where marks disappear, because students have rarely worked sustained unfamiliar mathematics without a scaffold.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with a calculator throughout. HL brings graph theory, Voronoi diagrams and matrices. The habitual loss is interpretation: a correct regression without a sentence explaining what it means collects only the calculation marks.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 is multiple choice under tight timing; Paper 2 is extended response, where a numerically right answer with no reasoning chain loses the explanation marks. HL adds fields, induction and quantum material on its own paper.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and equilibrium carry the weight in Paper 2, and organic mechanism notation is the most common hidden gap. The internal assessment rewards real uncertainty analysis; a textbook experiment written up neatly sits mid-band.

Biology

HL and SL

Marked as a precision subject, not a recall one. Command terms decide the mark: outline, explain, describe, suggest and evaluate each want a different answer shape. Genetics and homeostasis are the usual collapse points.

Economics

HL and SL

The IA is three 800-word commentaries built on news articles the student finds. Marks go on choosing an article with no usable diagram and on summarising instead of analysing. HL adds Paper 3, arithmetic under time pressure.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen analysis against a guiding question; Paper 2 is comparative essay. The Individual Oral links a global issue to one literary and one non-literary extract. Weak IOs are weak on the global issue, not the texts.

Business Management

HL and SL

The case study decides the grade. Candidates who revise definitions and ignore the stimulus write generic answers and score poorly on high-tariff questions. Application to the named business is the assessed skill and it is teachable quickly.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL where offered

Underestimated by students who pick it as a lighter Group 4 option. It needs systems diagrams, named dated case studies and value-perspective analysis. A generic answer about deforestation scores a fraction of a specific one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats that fit an Al Raas evening. All run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one, fixed slot

One or two sessions a week across a term, following the school's own scheme of work. The fixed slot is the point: a tutoring arrangement survives on consistency rather than intensity. We would rather hold a reliable 17:30 session every week than schedule a 16:30 one that the Ajman run defeats every third week.

  • Held for the term rather than rebooked each week
  • Session notes naming what was covered and what was set
  • Starts when the student is at the desk, which video can absorb

Weekend coursework blocks

Longer weekend sessions for work that needs unbroken thinking: the Extended Essay, an Internal Assessment, a TOK essay plan. A commuting student has fewer usable weekday hours, so the core work goes to the weekend. Ninety focused minutes on a Saturday beats three fragmented weekday half-hours.

  • Aimed at Extended Essay, IA and TOK work
  • Scheduled against the coordinator's internal deadlines
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never a rewrite

May-session run-in

A compressed block before the May session, built on past-paper diagnosis rather than topic coverage. Identify the question types losing marks reliably, drill those, leave alone what the student already handles. It will not install two years of missing content and we say so before you book.

  • Diagnostic from marked papers, not a syllabus checklist
  • Mark-scheme-led: what the examiner rewards, phrase by phrase
  • Honest about the ceiling of a short intervention

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Raas

01

Why Al Raas and UAQ Marina get the same answer

Because the variable that decides a Diploma grade is not distance. It is whether the person teaching your child has taught that subject at that level and knows where the marks are lost. Fifteen minutes of driving changes the convenience of an in-home arrangement and changes nothing about the supply of IB Economics HL specialists in the northern emirates.

Run the numbers rather than asserting them. Take a twenty-kilometre radius from Al Raas. It contains Umm Al Quwain city, part of Ajman, and not much else. Inside that radius, count the people who have taken a cohort through IB Chemistry HL and tutor privately and are free at 17:30 on a weekday. It is a short list, and for several Diploma subjects it is empty. Draw the same circle from UAQ Marina and the contents barely change: a little less of Ajman, a little more coastline.

So the comparison between neighbourhoods is real but it is a comparison about driving, not about teaching. Where the two areas genuinely differ is the evening window, and even there the difference is a quarter of an hour. Al Raas families with an Ajman school can sometimes start a session at 17:00. UAQ Marina families with a Sharjah school are usually looking at 17:45. Both are late by the standards of the tutoring market, which assumes a 16:00 start nobody in this emirate has.

The useful conclusion is to stop filtering by area and start filtering by specification. Ask a prospective tutor which subject and level, how many cohorts, and which paper candidates lose marks on. A specialist answers in a sentence. Someone who has not taught the course redirects to their degree. That question sorts the field faster than any map, and it works identically from Al Raas, the Marina, Al Salamah or Al Riqqa.

What the UAE market charges, cheapest band upwards

Three of the six competitor pages examined for this project in October 2026 published no price at all, and two quoted in US dollars, which is not a currency Al Raas families transact in. The figures here are market rates taken from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. They describe the market, not an IB Gram price list.

Reading upwards from the cheapest band makes the structure visible. Budget online tutoring with a university-student tutor runs roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. The step to a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300 buys subject training and familiarity with the specification. The step to a board specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above buys level-specific exam experience, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. The step to in-home at AED 180 to 500 buys travel, not teaching.

That last point is the one this page exists to make from Al Raas. The in-home band overlaps the specialist band in price, but the money is doing a different job. In an emirate where the tutor has to drive in from Ajman or Sharjah, a large part of the rate pays for the road. Monthly packaging tells the same story: published figures include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Four questions to ask any provider before accepting a quote: is the rate per hour or per session, does it include VAT, what does a cancellation inside 24 hours cost, and does the figure change closer to an exam session. The answers tell you more than a rate card does.

Online one-to-one against an in-home visit in Umm Al Quwain

An in-home tutor gives you presence: somebody in the room, nothing to disconnect, a teenager who cannot quietly open another tab. For a primary-age child that presence is genuinely worth paying for. For a DP2 student failing Paper 3, it is worth much less than knowing Paper 3.

Every structural feature of this emirate works against the in-home model. The pool shrinks to those willing to drive to Umm Al Quwain, which in a specialist Diploma subject may be nobody at all. The rate carries the drive. The appointment must be fixed against a bus arrival that cannot be predicted to the quarter hour. A cancellation on either side wastes a journey and is usually billed.

Online delivery reverses each of those. The pool becomes everyone who teaches the subject at that level. The rate drops because no one is paid to drive. A late bus costs ten minutes rather than an hour. Sessions can be recorded and rewatched the night before a paper, and past papers are screen-shared and annotated live, which is closer to a desk-side explanation than most parents expect before seeing it.

IB Gram offers only the online route in the UAE, and setting out the trade-off is more useful than pretending there is none. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. If physical presence is what your child needs, the market supplies it and you now know the price.

The Diploma year counted backwards from the May session

UAE schools sit the May session. This page publishes no specific IB exam or results date, and the reason is worth stating: the IB's own site returns an error to automated checking, so no IB date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. A date a family plans a year around must be right, so take the session dates from your child's IB coordinator, who has them directly.

The shape of the year can be planned confidently, because the school sets most of it. The Extended Essay has supervisor meetings and a school draft deadline. Each Internal Assessment has a coordinator deadline, and in the sciences and mathematics those land in DP2 while teaching is still running. TOK has an exhibition and an essay on a prescribed title. Mocks sit roughly a term before the papers, and predicted grades for university applications come from work completed well before that.

Counted backwards, a Diploma student has four usable blocks: the first autumn of DP1, the spring of DP1 when coursework genuinely begins, the DP2 autumn when mocks and applications collide, and the final run-in. Three of those four are better spent on content and coursework than on past papers. The families who spend least in total are the ones who use the spring of DP1, which is also the term nearly everyone treats as quiet.

For a commuting Al Raas household this is sharper rather than softer. There are fewer usable weekday hours here than for a family living beside the school, so the hours have to be spent earlier in the two years. A student starting in DP2 is attempting the same work in a smaller container.

Who regulates your child's school, and why no tutor is approved by them

An Al Raas family often lives under one regulator and sends a child to school under another. Umm Al Quwain private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, as are Ajman's and Fujairah's. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, activities and assessment methods. Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge on the same model. Dubai has KHDA; Abu Dhabi has ADEK. Those five bodies are the complete map for UAE private schools.

That has practical consequences. A child at a Sharjah school is in a school whose fees and curriculum were approved by SPEA, not by the Ministry covering your home address, and questions about either go to SPEA. Move the child to an Ajman school and the same questions go federal. Families who assume one national system discover this at an inconvenient moment, usually when a fee question needs answering.

None of those bodies licenses individual tutors. Private tutoring is regulated separately through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no amount appears on this page.

Two consequences follow. No provider can honestly call itself approved by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence for training institutes with premises in Dubai, and IB Gram holds no such permit, no accreditation from any UAE authority and no partnership with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. And if your child's own teacher offers private lessons, check the rules: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid private tutoring of their own enrolled students, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct bars the same.

Coursework: the line a tutor must not cross

  • Permitted: criterion explanation, feedback on the student's own draft, research-question triage, method teaching
  • Not permitted: drafting, completing or polishing coursework to submission standard
  • Not permitted: distributing IB syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes as files
  • The test: a list for the student, not a document for the parent

This is the boundary that carries real risk for your child, and this market handles it badly. One page examined for this project sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a published price. The student is the one whose Diploma is at stake if submitted work is not their own, which makes that transaction considerably worse than a waste of money.

A tutor may teach. That means explaining what each assessment criterion rewards and in what proportion, reading a draft your child has written and saying where it falls short of the descriptors, pointing out a research question that cannot be answered inside the word limit, teaching the statistics a Biology investigation needs, and explaining why a Chemistry IA reproducing a textbook method sits mid-band however neatly presented. All of that is feedback on the student's own work, and it is permitted and expected.

A tutor may not write, draft, complete, ghost-produce or edit to submission standard any part of an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay, Personal Project or coursework. IB Gram does not, and declines the request when it is made. A second and quieter line: a tutor should not hand over board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. Those belong to the IB. We cite and link to the official source instead.

The parent's test is simple. A legitimate session ends with your child holding a list of changes to make. If a cleaner document arrives in the inbox instead, you have bought something that can cost a Diploma, and convenience is not worth that.

Ministry of Education equivalency, understood early

  • Five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic education sit outside that five-subject count
  • One A-Level at E, or two AS-Levels at E, on the British track
  • No IB points threshold is published here; verify it on moe.gov.ae

A Diploma student from Al Raas applying to a UAE institution meets the Ministry of Education's equivalency process, which converts a foreign school certificate into something UAE universities and employers can read. It is worth understanding two years early, because it constrains subject choices while they are still changeable.

The published British-track rules are specific and useful even to IB families with an IGCSE history: five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, plus either one subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. The five-subject figure matters because at least one ranking competitor page publishes six, and a family planning against the wrong number makes a real error.

On the American track, English proficiency requires 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math before applying. For the IB specifically, this page publishes no points threshold. We have not read one on the Ministry's own site, and inventing a figure here is exactly what a family would plan a year around. Ask the Ministry or the emirate attestation authority directly.

Two cautions. Equivalency is a Ministry process: IB Gram does not perform it, expedite it or guarantee an outcome, and we point you to the official channel. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression. A provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process.

08

When no specialist is free, and what we say instead

Every provider in this market writes as though a tutor is always available. None of them is. Coverage in a niche Diploma subject at a specific level in a late-evening slot is a real constraint, and concealing it is how families end up with a mismatched tutor two weeks before a paper.

We disclose it. If a specialist in your child's subject and level is not free in the window an Al Raas school run leaves, we say so and offer the alternatives: a different evening, a specialist based elsewhere working to Gulf Standard Time, or a wait. For a subject like Environmental Systems and Societies or Economics HL, a wait is sometimes the right answer, and we would rather tell you than fill the slot badly.

The matching conversation is short. We ask for the subject and level, the school and its assessment calendar, the two or three things the student keeps losing marks on, and the hours that genuinely work after the Ajman or Sharjah run. A free trial lesson follows, so you can judge the fit rather than take our word for it. If the fit is wrong, say so: a rematch in week one costs an hour, one in week six costs a term.

One note on fallback delivery. If the specialist who fits your child is not based in the UAE, the lesson still runs over live video on your timetable, and we tell you where they are before the first session rather than after it. Two ranking competitors route UAE parents to non-UAE phone numbers without saying so, which is the thing we are trying not to be.

Where we tutor

What actually differs between Al Raas and the neighbourhoods around it

The honest version of the local comparison, measured in minutes of driving and in what each area's families can realistically schedule. Nothing in this list changes which specialist has taught your child's syllabus.

Al Raas

The older part of Umm Al Quwain city, close to the creek. The shortest run to an Ajman school of anywhere in the emirate, which buys perhaps fifteen minutes against the Marina and occasionally makes a 17:00 session start realistic.

UAQ Marina

Coastal and newer, further from the Ajman and Sharjah roads. Arrival home from a Sharjah school typically lands between 16:00 and 17:00, pushing a workable session to 17:30 or later. Same schools, same tutor problem, a quarter of an hour more driving.

Al Salamah

Inland and residential, feeding the same out-of-emirate schools. The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road leg south is the usual bus route and the one most exposed to afternoon delay, so a fixed early appointment is optimistic here.

Al Riqqa

Towards the Ajman border and therefore the closest point in the emirate to an Ajman school gate. Families here have the widest evening window in Umm Al Quwain and still face the same shortage of local Diploma subject specialists.

Umm Al Quwain city centre

Where the emirate's own private schools sit, under federal Ministry of Education supervision. A locally schooled student has a much shorter day and can take a 16:00 slot, but the local set does not cover the full range of Diploma options.

Falaj Al Mualla

Well inland, with a long run to any international school. The in-home travel premium is at its highest here and the willing tutor pool at its smallest, which makes this the clearest case in the emirate for online delivery.

Ajman and Sharjah school corridors

Not a place to live but the thing that sets the timetable. A bus collecting several communities on the way north can add forty minutes to a journey that looks like twenty-five, which is why we ask for the real arrival time.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Raas

Umm Al Quwain, including Al Raas

The emirate's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate authority. The set is small and the Diploma subject range a small cohort can staff is narrower still, which is why so many Al Raas students commute out of the emirate every morning.

  • Emirates National Schools Umm Al Quwain
  • Umm Al Quwain English Private School
  • Al Ameer English School
  • The Westminster School Umm Al Quwain

Ajman and Sharjah, where Al Raas students commute

Ajman private schools sit under the federal Ministry of Education. Sharjah schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods as well as regulating. An Al Raas family may therefore deal with a different regulator from the one covering their home address.

  • Ajman Academy
  • The Millennium School Sharjah
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • GEMS Millennium School Sharjah

Schools are named as context for the education ecosystem Al Raas families use. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and each name should be checked against the relevant regulator's own current listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject, the level and the arrival time

The useful first message names the school, the year group, the subject and level, and the hour your child actually walks through the door on a normal weekday. From Al Raas with an Ajman school that is usually around 16:00; from a Sharjah school it is later. The plan is built from that number.

    Send the coordinator's deadline list

Coursework deadlines, mock windows and report dates are set by the school and bind earlier than the exam window. A tutor working without them is planning against the wrong clock, and the Internal Assessment dates in particular arrive sooner than most families expect.

  3. 03

Take the free trial in the slot you would really use

One session, no commitment, booked at the real hour rather than a convenient weekend one. That tests the thing most likely to fail: whether your child can concentrate after the commute. Listen for whether the tutor diagnoses or lectures in the first twenty minutes.

  4. 04

Hold the slot for the term, then review against marks

Keep one hour a week rather than rebooking around each week's disruption. Every six weeks, compare the plan against marked evidence: school assessments, past-paper scores by question type, coursework drafts. If nothing has moved on what you targeted, change the plan or the tutor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison answered honestly

Al Raas, UAQ Marina, Al Salamah and Al Riqqa differ by minutes of driving and not at all in the supply of Diploma subject specialists. We say that rather than writing four pages implying four different local tutor pools, because the honest answer saves you a week of searching.

Matched on the course, not the commute

In the least populous emirate, filtering by willingness to drive can leave nobody at all in a specialist Higher Level subject. Matching on subject and level first, then teaching over video, gives an Al Raas family the same access as a family living beside the school gate.

Figures that carry a source and a date

Every AED band here is attributed to the provider or survey that published it, read in October 2026, and presented as the market rather than our price. Three of six competitor pages examined published no price at all and two quoted US dollars to families who pay in dirhams.

No approval claims, no invented numbers

IB Gram holds no approval from KHDA, ADEK or SPEA, no Ministry accreditation and no partnership with the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We explain what each body does and link out. You will find no satisfaction percentage or star rating here, because we cannot produce the data behind one.

A firm academic-honesty line

We teach, review and give feedback on the student's own work. We do not draft, complete or produce an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, TOK essay or coursework, and we decline the request. One page in this market sells finished IAs; the student, not the seller, carries that risk.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Raas: your questions answered

Is an IB home tutor in Al Raas easier to find than in UAQ Marina?+

Marginally, and not in a way that matters. Al Raas is nearer the Ajman road, so the pool of people prepared to drive is slightly larger and the evening starts perhaps fifteen minutes earlier. Neither change the number of local people who have taught your child's Higher Level subject, which in several Diploma subjects is zero across the whole emirate. That is why we match on the course rather than on the map and teach over live video.

Does IB Gram send anyone to an Al Raas address?+

No. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The market does supply in-home tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour on published 2026 figures, with the drive inside the rate. In Umm Al Quwain that drive is long and the pool willing to make it for a specialist Diploma subject is very small.

Which neighbourhood in Umm Al Quwain has the shortest school run?+

Al Riqqa and Al Raas, both close to the Ajman border, so an Ajman school is reachable fastest from there. UAQ Marina and Al Salamah add roughly fifteen minutes, and Falaj Al Mualla adds considerably more. That shapes when a session can realistically start: around 17:00 from Al Raas with an Ajman school, 17:30 to 18:00 from the Marina with a Sharjah one. It does not shape which specialists exist within reach.

How much should we budget for Diploma tutoring from Al Raas?+

Published UAE market rates read in October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and a board specialist at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Unitors IB from AED 200. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. Umm Al Quwain is not separately surveyed, so treat the national bands as a guide. These are market figures from providers' own pages, not an IB Gram price list.

Is paying the in-home premium sensible in this emirate?+

Rarely, and the reason is geography rather than format. A tutor driving in from Ajman or Sharjah gives up substantial time in each direction, and that time sits inside your hourly rate. The same money online buys a specialist in your child's exact subject and level. The case where presence earns its keep is a younger child who needs somebody physically there to stay on task, not a Diploma student who keeps losing marks on a specific paper.

Where do most Al Raas students actually go to school?+

Out of the emirate, in most cases. Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate and its private international school set is small, so a cohort cannot staff the full range of Diploma subjects. Families wanting a particular Higher Level combination commute to Ajman, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah. Ajman is the shortest run from Al Raas. The consequence for tutoring is a later, shorter evening window than the market assumes when it schedules a 16:00 session.

If we move from Al Raas to Al Salamah, do we need a new tutor?+

No. The specialist is matched to the subject and level, not to the postcode, and the session runs over video, so a move inside the emirate changes nothing except possibly the start time. A move that changes schools matters far more than a move that changes address: a new school means new coursework deadlines, a possible change of regulator, and sometimes a different set of option subjects. Tell us about a school change, not a house move.

Which regulator covers a school my Al Raas child attends in Sharjah?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in that emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, activities and assessment methods. Your home emirate of Umm Al Quwain is supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, as Ajman is. So fee and curriculum questions about a Sharjah school go to SPEA rather than to the Ministry covering your address. Families who assume a single national system usually discover this at the worst possible moment.

Is a permit needed to tutor privately in Umm Al Quwain?+

Yes, across the UAE. Private tutoring is regulated through a MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount quoted at you with suspicion.

How do we judge whether a tutor really knows the Higher Level course?+

Ask which paper candidates reliably lose marks on at that level, and why. A person who has taught IB Physics HL or Maths AA HL answers in a sentence, naming a paper and a failure mode. A person who has not redirects to their degree or their years of experience. Follow up with how many cohorts they have taken through it. Those two questions sort the field far faster than any filter on distance, and they cost you nothing.

How much Extended Essay help is a tutor allowed to give?+

Yes, on your child's own draft. A tutor can say where the argument fails to answer the research question, where evidence is asserted rather than shown, and where the essay has drifted outside the subject's assessment criteria. A tutor cannot write it, rewrite it to standard, or supply text, and IB Gram declines that request. A legitimate session ends with your child holding a list of changes. If a finished document arrives instead, the Diploma is what is at risk.

When should Internal Assessment work begin for a commuting student?+

Earlier than for a classmate living beside the school, because there are fewer usable weekday hours. The deadlines are set by the school's IB coordinator rather than the exam board, and in the sciences and mathematics they fall in DP2 while teaching continues. The research question work belongs in the spring of DP1. Families from Al Raas who front-load into DP1 spend fewer total hours than those who start in the DP2 autumn, when mocks and applications collide.

Can both of our children be tutored on the same evening?+

Yes, and in commuting households it is the arrangement we set up most often. Two consecutive video slots, each with the right specialist for that child's subject and level, occupies one evening rather than disrupting two. Nobody is travelling, so there is no second travel premium and no second arrival to coordinate. Each child gets separate session notes, which matters when one is in DP2 and the other still in the Middle Years Programme.

Do sessions keep running if we travel for Eid or over the summer?+

Yes, if you want them to. The only requirements are a connection and an agreed hour, so a session follows a family abroad without renegotiation. A fortnightly rhythm with a past paper in between holds far more ground across a long break than it costs, and a Diploma student who loses six weeks of momentum in July pays for it in the DP2 autumn. Agree the holiday arrangement in advance rather than cancelling week by week.

What does a Ramadan schedule look like for an Al Raas family?+

Later. School days shorten, household routines invert, and the mid-afternoon hour that worked in January becomes unusable. The productive window moves to after Iftar, and a video session at 21:00 costs nobody a journey, which an in-home arrangement cannot match. Decide before Ramadan whether sessions pause, shorten or shift late, rather than renegotiating weekly. When Ramadan falls in spring it sits directly on the revision weeks before the May session.

Compare the neighbourhoods if you like, then compare specifications

Al Raas, UAQ Marina, Al Salamah and Al Riqqa are genuinely different places to live and almost identical places to find a Diploma specialist from. The variable worth comparing is not the drive but the course: which subject, which level, how many cohorts, and which paper candidates lose marks on. Send us the subject and level, your school's coursework deadline list and the hour your child is actually home, and take the free trial lesson in that real slot. If the match is wrong, tell us in week one and we will change it.
