IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Raas

Hunting for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Raas, then widening the search to Al Riqqa, Al Salamah and UAQ Marina, produces the same shortlist every time. In Umm Al Quwain the question that changes an IGCSE grade is not which area a tutor lives in. It is whether they teach your child's board and tier: Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams. IB Gram matches on that, over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Al Raas

The search that matters is the board, not the neighbourhood

Parents in Al Raas usually start by drawing a circle. Who teaches IGCSE near the creek? Who would come from Al Riqqa, from Al Salamah, from UAQ Marina? The circle gets bigger, the list stays short, and after a week the family concludes that Umm Al Quwain has no tutors. That conclusion is half right and it is the wrong half.

Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate, and its private international school set is small. Most internationally schooled students from Al Raas commute out to Ajman, which is the nearest option from this part of the city, or to Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. The pool of people living within twenty minutes of Al Raas who have taught Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 to an exam cohort is genuinely tiny, and widening the circle to the next neighbourhood adds almost nobody, because the next neighbourhood is also in Umm Al Quwain.

What families should be filtering on instead is the specification. An IGCSE is not one qualification. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel run the same subjects under different codes, different paper structures and different rules, and Cambridge tiers most subjects into Core and Extended, with Core capped at grade C. A tutor who taught Pearson 4PH1 last year and is handed a Cambridge 0625 Extended student is competent and slightly out of position. A tutor who taught 0625 Extended for five cohorts will tell you in one sentence where candidates lose marks on Paper 4. Which of those two lives nearer Al Raas is not information worth having.

So the honest answer to the comparison between Al Raas and the area next door is that it makes no difference. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. We match your child to somebody who has taught their exact specification at their exact tier and run the session over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The market does supply in-home visits across the UAE at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour on published 2026 figures, travel folded into the rate, and this page sets out what that buys so you can judge it rather than take it on trust.

Put plainly: the area comparison is settled, and it is settled the same way from every address in the emirate. What follows is written around the IGCSE decisions that genuinely move a grade instead: the Core and Extended choice, the difference between the two boards, where marks are lost subject by subject, what the market charges, the June and November series counted backwards, how and where exams are sat in the northern emirates, and the five IGCSE passes the Ministry of Education counts towards equivalency.

At a glance

  • Cambridge tiers most IGCSE subjects into Core, capped at grade C, and Extended, reaching A*
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is untiered in most subjects and awards 9 to 1
  • UAE candidates sit Cambridge in the June and November series; the February/March series is India-only
  • Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November
  • Umm Al Quwain private schools answer to the federal Ministry of Education
  • The Ministry counts five IGCSE passes at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Raas families arrive at one of three points in the IGCSE course, and the useful work differs sharply between them.

KS3Ages 11-14

Years 7 to 9, before the IGCSE courses start

The years before the specification begins are where IGCSE grades are quietly decided, because algebraic fluency, reading stamina and the ability to write a structured explanation are built here rather than in Year 11. Nothing is externally assessed, so a student can look fine on school reports and arrive in Year 10 without the groundwork.

For an Al Raas family this is the cheapest intervention available, and almost nobody buys it. A student commuting to Ajman or Sharjah has limited weekday evening time, so fixing number fluency in Year 8 costs a fraction of what repairing it in Year 11 costs. One session a week for two terms at this stage changes the tier decision that follows.

IGCSE-Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10, the first IGCSE year

Year 10 is where the tier decision is made and where roughly half the specification content is taught. Cambridge Core and Extended diverge here, and the choice sets the grade ceiling for two years. In the sciences the practical skills assessment begins in earnest, and in Maths the algebra that the final papers depend on is introduced.

The Year 10 question we are asked most often from Umm Al Quwain is whether a borderline student should be entered for Core or Extended. The answer depends on evidence rather than on optimism: look at marks on Extended-standard questions under real timing, not at classwork. A tutor can supply that evidence in three or four sessions.

IGCSE-Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11, the exam year

The final year is specification completion plus past-paper technique, and the second of those is where most available marks sit. Mark schemes reward specific wording, specific working and specific units, and a student who knows the content but not the scheme loses method marks across every paper. The alternative-to-practical papers reward precision about apparatus that theory revision never supplies.

Al Raas Year 11 students sit their papers at their school's centre, which for most families is in Ajman or Sharjah rather than Umm Al Quwain. That matters because Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and the zone is a property of the centre, not of where you live.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The IGCSE subjects Al Raas families request, with the board codes that matter and the specific places candidates lose marks. Ask any tutor to do the same without looking it up.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Pearson 4MA1

0580 Extended reaches A* and Core stops at C, making the tier the biggest decision of Year 10. Marks go missing on transformations, bounds and the final part of multi-step problems where method marks were available for working the student did not write down.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Electricity is the predictable collapse topic, and the alternative-to-practical paper punishes students who have read about circuits but never described a workable method. Pearson's paper structure and formula-sheet treatment differ from Cambridge's, which is why the code matters.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Moles calculations and organic naming are where the marks concentrate. Cambridge 0620 Paper 6 rewards precision about apparatus, observations and safety that cannot be revised from a textbook summary. Equation balancing errors cost marks in questions students otherwise understood.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Looks like recall, is marked like precision. Command terms decide the mark: describe, explain, suggest and compare each want a different answer shape. Enzymes, transport in plants and genetics are the usual points of collapse under exam timing.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990 · Pearson 4EA1

Reading questions are marked against specific skills rather than general comprehension, and directed writing is marked on audience and form as much as content. Students who write fluently but ignore the task's stated purpose lose marks that have nothing to do with their English.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450 · Pearson 4BS1

The case study decides the grade. Candidates who revise definitions and ignore the stimulus material write generic answers and score badly on the high-tariff questions. Application to the named business in front of them is the assessed skill and it responds quickly to teaching.

Economics

Cambridge 0455 · Pearson 4EC1

Diagrams carry marks and most candidates draw them carelessly: unlabelled axes, no shifted curve, no indication of the new equilibrium. Evaluation questions need a judgement supported by the analysis already written, not a new argument introduced in the last line.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Pseudocode, trace tables and logic gates are mechanical marks that students throw away for want of practice rather than for want of understanding. Database and networking topics are usually taught thinly in small cohorts, which is exactly the shortage a commuting Umm Al Quwain student runs into.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Taken by strong mathematicians as preparation for A-Level or the IB Diploma. It introduces calculus, trigonometric identities and logarithms early, and the step up in algebraic demand from 0580 Extended is steeper than most students expect in the first term.

Arabic

First language and additional language

Federal rules require UAE private schools to teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies whatever curriculum they are licensed to deliver. Tutoring here means supporting the school's own prescribed material, because schools may not use different content for the mandatory subjects without Ministry permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats that work around an Al Raas IGCSE timetable, all one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

One or two sessions a week across Year 10 and Year 11, following the school's own scheme of work rather than a generic syllabus order. This is the format that changes a tier outcome, because the decisive evidence is produced over months. The tutor works from the school's assessment calendar and asks for it in the first session.

  • Syllabus-code specific from the first session
  • Session notes naming what was covered and set
  • Best begun in Year 10, when the tier is still open

Series intensive before June or November

A compressed block aimed at a named series, built on past-paper diagnosis rather than content coverage. Identify the question types where marks are reliably lost, drill those, and leave alone the topics the student already handles. It cannot install two years of missing specification, and we say so before anyone books it.

  • Built backwards from the official timetable for that series
  • Mark-scheme-led: the wording and working examiners reward
  • Realistic about what six weeks can repair

Tier and board decision review

A short diagnostic block for the Year 10 question: Core or Extended, and what happens if the school enters the student for the wrong one. Three or four sessions of Extended-standard questions under real timing produce better evidence than a term of classwork, and the conclusion goes to you in writing rather than as an opinion.

  • Evidence from timed Extended-standard questions
  • Written summary you can take to the school
  • Covers a board change too, where a family has moved schools

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Raas

01

Core or Extended: the Year 10 decision that sets the ceiling

Cambridge tiers most IGCSE subjects. Core papers are capped at grade C; Extended papers reach A*. The decision is usually made during Year 10, sometimes earlier, and it is the single most consequential academic choice an IGCSE student's family will be consulted on, because it fixes the best possible outcome two years ahead.

Schools make the call on evidence they have, which is classwork and internal assessments. Classwork is a poor predictor, because it is untimed, often supported, and rarely set at Extended difficulty. A student who looks comfortable on Core-standard questions may be perfectly capable of Extended with a term's work on algebraic fluency, and a student entered for Extended who cannot complete a paper under timing will score worse than they would have on Core. Both errors are common and both are avoidable.

The way to resolve it is to generate real evidence: a handful of Extended-standard past-paper questions under proper timing, marked against the scheme rather than for effort. Three or four sessions produce a defensible answer. That evidence is also what a school will listen to, because it is the same kind of evidence they use. An opinion from a parent carries less weight than a marked paper.

One further consideration for Al Raas families specifically. Because most students here commute out of the emirate, a change of school between Year 9 and Year 10 is common, and a change of school can mean a change of board. A student who did Core-standard work on one specification does not automatically belong at Core on another. Ask which board and which tier the new school intends, in writing, before the entries are made.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: the same subject, two different exams

A parent is told their child is doing IGCSE Maths. That sentence contains almost no information. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 are separate qualifications with separate papers, separate mark schemes and separate conventions, and a tutor who knows one is not automatically useful on the other.

The structural differences matter in practice. Cambridge tiers most subjects into Core and Extended; Pearson's International GCSE is untiered in most subjects and awards grades 9 to 1 rather than A* to G. Paper counts, calculator rules and the treatment of formula sheets differ. In the sciences the practical assessment is handled differently between the boards. None of this is exotic knowledge, but it is specification knowledge, and it is what separates a tutor who can lift a grade from one who can explain the topic.

The first thing to do, therefore, is find the code. It is printed on the exam entry slip, usually on the school's statement of entry, and the exams officer will confirm it. Four characters is all it takes: 0580 or 4MA1, 0625 or 4PH1, 0620 or 4CH1. Any tutor worth hiring will ask for it unprompted, and a provider who does not ask is telling you something.

For Al Raas families there is a specific trap. Moving between schools in Ajman, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain can mean moving between boards mid-course. A student halfway through Cambridge 0580 who arrives at a Pearson 4MA1 cohort has a real transition to manage, not a formality, and it needs a few focused sessions on the differences rather than a general tutoring arrangement.

What IGCSE tuition costs in the northern emirates

Of the competitor pages examined for this project in October 2026, three published no price at all and two quoted in US dollars. The bands below are market rates read from providers' own pages and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. They describe what the market charges, not what IB Gram charges.

Take the monthly view first, because that is how a family actually budgets. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published package rates in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. A family comparing those two monthly figures is comparing eight hours against eight hours, with roughly double the price for the in-home version.

Per hour, the bands run from AED 45 to 150 for a budget online tutor, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, up to AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 or more. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate putting them at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at 200 to 500. For context on household budgets, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year.

What a parent can verify before paying anything: whether the rate is per hour or per session, whether it includes VAT, what a cancellation inside 24 hours costs, whether the figure rises before a series, and what happens if the tutor turns out to teach the wrong board. The last of those is the question nobody asks and the one that costs most.

The June and November series, counted backwards

Nobody in this market publishes an exam calendar, which is odd, because it is the most actionable thing a parent can be handed. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series. UAE candidates sit those two. The February/March series is offered to India only, so any page quoting a March window to an Al Raas family is quoting another country's calendar.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The zone belongs to the centre, which for most Al Raas students is a school in Ajman or Sharjah. Ask the exams officer which zone applies before planning anything around a published start time.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, exams run in May/June and in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those backward-looking dates establish the shape: a November series means results in January, which matters if a sixth-form or university application is in train. Pearson publishes provisional timetables and revises them, so work from the live official timetable rather than from dates restated anywhere else.

Read the table below as a chain rather than a list. Each row depends on the one above it, and the rows that bite hardest are the school-set ones near the top, which fall months before the papers and are the ones families routinely miss.

Where the exams are actually sat, and what a private candidate is

  • The exam centre, not your address, determines the Cambridge administrative zone
  • Subjects with school-assessed components are harder to take as a private candidate
  • Private-entry deadlines are earlier and nobody chases them for you
  • IB Gram is not an exam centre and does not make entries; ask your school's exams officer

Most Al Raas students sit their papers at their own school, which is usually in Ajman or Sharjah. The school is the centre, the centre holds the zone allocation, and the entries are made by the exams officer. That arrangement is simple and it is the one almost every family is in.

It becomes complicated in three situations. A student who wants a subject the school does not offer has to find a centre that accepts private candidates. A student who has left school mid-course and wants to complete a qualification is in the same position. And a student resitting a single subject after a disappointing result may find their own school unwilling to enter them for one paper. In each case the entry is made with a centre that accepts external candidates, the fees are paid directly, and the deadlines are the centre's rather than the school's.

Two things to understand before going down that route. First, practical and coursework components are the hard part: a subject with a school-assessed component cannot always be taken as a private candidate, and the alternative-to-practical route exists precisely because of this. Check the subject, not just the board. Second, the deadlines for private entry are earlier and less forgiving than a school's internal reminders, because nobody is chasing you.

We do not arrange exam entries, hold a centre number or administer any board's examinations, and no tutoring provider should imply otherwise. What a tutor can do is teach the specification, prepare the student for the specific papers they will sit, and make sure the preparation matches the tier and board the entry was actually made for. Checking that match is worth doing in the first session rather than in March.

Five IGCSE passes: what the Ministry of Education counts

An Al Raas student finishing IGCSEs and applying to a UAE institution meets the Ministry of Education's equivalency process, which converts a foreign school certificate into something UAE universities and employers can read. Understanding it in Year 10 rather than after results day is worth real money, because it constrains subject choices while they can still be changed.

The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, together with either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That last detail catches families repeatedly, and at least one ranking competitor page publishes a six-subject requirement, which is simply wrong.

There is a tier consequence hiding in that rule. A Core-tier pass at grade C or D counts towards the five exactly as a pass does, so the equivalency floor is not the reason to push a student into Extended. The reason to push for Extended is a degree course that asks for higher grades or a specific subject at A-Level. Separating those two questions stops families making the tier decision for the wrong reason.

Two cautions. Equivalency is a Ministry process. IB Gram does not perform it, expedite it or guarantee an outcome in it, and we point you to the official channel rather than offering to handle it. And tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, for university admission or for school progression; any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency around a regulatory process.

Online one-to-one against an in-home IGCSE tutor from Al Raas

The in-home case is real and it is worth stating properly. Somebody in the room cannot be muted, cannot be ignored behind a second browser tab, and can look over a page of algebra and point. For a Year 7 or Year 8 student that presence often is the intervention.

The case weakens sharply for an exam-year student in Umm Al Quwain, for three reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of in-home teaching. The pool narrows to those willing to drive to Al Raas, which in a specific board and tier may be nobody. The rate carries the drive: the in-home band at AED 180 to 500 an hour overlaps the specialist band, but a share of the money is paying for the road rather than for specification knowledge. And the appointment has to be fixed against a bus arrival from Ajman or Sharjah that cannot be predicted to the quarter hour.

Online delivery handles each of those differently. The pool is everyone who teaches Cambridge 0620 Extended. The rate pays only for teaching. A late bus costs ten minutes rather than an hour and a wasted journey. Past papers screen-share and annotate live, mark schemes can be worked line by line, and the session can be recorded and rewatched the night before a paper, which a kitchen-table lesson never produces.

IB Gram offers only the online route in the UAE. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Setting the trade-off out is more useful than pretending it is not there, and if presence is what your child needs, the market supplies it at the rates named above.

Where IGCSE marks are lost, and what a tutor can actually fix

  • Sort lost marks by cause from marked past papers, not from impressions
  • Method marks survive a wrong answer only if the working is written down
  • Answer the command term, not the topic the question mentions
  • Units, significant figures and labelled diagrams are free marks repeatedly given away

Most IGCSE underperformance is not a content gap. It is a mark-scheme gap. A student who understands moles and loses marks for an unbalanced equation, or who can do the physics and loses marks for omitting units, is not short of knowledge. They are short of the specific habits the scheme rewards, and those habits are among the fastest things in education to install.

The diagnosis has to come from marked papers rather than from a conversation. Take four or five past papers, mark them against the official scheme, and sort the lost marks by cause: content not known, method not shown, command term misread, units or notation, time ran out. The distribution is almost always lopsided, and it tells you what the next six sessions should contain. Most families have never seen their child's losses sorted this way.

What responds quickly: showing working so method marks survive a wrong final answer; reading the command term and answering that verb rather than the topic; using the right number of significant figures; labelling diagrams; and in the sciences, describing apparatus and method with the precision the practical papers demand. What responds slowly: two years of missing algebra. A tutor who promises the second in six weeks is selling you something.

For an Al Raas student the practical value of this is time. There are fewer usable weekday hours in a commuting household, so the hours must be spent on the highest-yield losses rather than on a general sweep through the syllabus. Sorting the losses first is how a small number of sessions does disproportionate work.

Where we tutor

Al Raas and the areas next to it, for an IGCSE timetable

Measured in the only terms that affect a weekly session: how far the school run goes and when a student is genuinely at a desk. The tutor pool does not change between these entries.

Al Raas

The older quarter of Umm Al Quwain city near the creek, and the closest part of it to the Ajman road alongside Al Riqqa. A Year 11 student at an Ajman school can usually be at a desk by 17:00, which is early by this emirate's standards.

Al Riqqa

Nearest the Ajman border, which gives it the widest evening window in Umm Al Quwain. Families here often assume local tutors must therefore be easier to find, and they are not: the supply constraint is the size of the emirate, not the position within it.

Al Salamah

Inland and residential, with the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road leg south as the usual bus route. That leg is the one most exposed to afternoon delay, so a 17:00 appointment set in advance tends to become a 17:25 start in practice.

UAQ Marina

Coastal, newer and further from both the Ajman and Sharjah roads. Arrival home from a Sharjah school typically lands between 16:00 and 17:00, so a session starts at 17:30 or later. Same boards, same shortage, a quarter of an hour more driving.

Umm Al Quwain city centre

Where the emirate's own private schools sit, under federal Ministry of Education supervision. A locally schooled IGCSE student has a shorter day and more usable evening, though the subject range a small cohort can offer is narrower.

Falaj Al Mualla

Deep inland, a long run to any international school. The travel premium an in-home tutor would charge is at its highest and the willing pool at its smallest, which makes the online case clearest of anywhere in the emirate.

Ajman and Sharjah, where the exam centre usually is

Not where you live but where the papers are sat, and therefore which Cambridge administrative zone governs the timetable your child must use. Ask the school's exams officer for the zone rather than assuming the published timetable you found applies.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Raas

Umm Al Quwain, including Al Raas

The emirate's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate-level authority, so there is no local inspection portal of the kind Dubai parents use. Ask a school directly which board it enters candidates for, because that determines everything about the tutoring your child needs.

Ajman and Sharjah, where Al Raas candidates sit papers

Sharjah private schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods. Ajman sits under the federal Ministry of Education. The exam centre's administrative zone, not your address, determines which version of a Cambridge timetable applies.

Schools are named as context for the education ecosystem Al Raas families actually use. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and each name should be verified against the relevant regulator's own current listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Find the syllabus code before anything else

It is on the statement of entry and the exams officer will confirm it. Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1, 0625 or 4PH1, 0620 or 4CH1, and for Cambridge the tier as well. Four characters decide which specialist your child needs, and any tutor worth hiring asks for it without being prompted.

  2. 02

Send four marked past papers if you have them

Marked work is worth more than a description of the problem. We sort the lost marks by cause, which almost always shows a lopsided distribution the family has not seen, and that distribution decides what the first six sessions contain rather than a sweep through the syllabus.

  3. 03

Take the free trial at the hour you would really use

One session, no commitment, booked at the real time rather than a convenient weekend slot. From Al Raas with an Ajman school that is often around 17:00. The thing worth testing is whether your child can concentrate after the commute, and whether the tutor diagnoses or lectures.

  4. 04

Fix one slot and review it against marks

Hold a single weekly hour through the term rather than rebooking around disruptions. Every six weeks, compare the plan against marked evidence: school assessments and past-paper scores broken down by question type. If nothing has shifted on what you targeted, change the plan or the tutor.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by code and tier, not by driving distance

Cambridge 0580 Extended and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams, and the tutor who has taught one is not automatically right for the other. We match on the specification your child is entered for. In an emirate the size of Umm Al Quwain, matching on distance instead would often leave nobody at all.

The neighbourhood comparison answered honestly

Al Raas, Al Riqqa, Al Salamah and UAQ Marina differ by minutes of driving and not at all in local IGCSE specialist supply. Saying so saves a family a week of searching, which is more use than writing four pages that imply four separate local tutor pools.

Exam dates that are right for the UAE

UAE Cambridge candidates sit the June and November series. The February/March series is India-only, and pages quoting a March window to UAE parents are quoting another country's calendar. We also tell you that the zone belongs to the exam centre, because Cambridge will not cover a candidate who used the wrong timetable.

Every AED figure sourced and dated

The rate bands here are attributed to the provider or survey that published them, read in October 2026, and presented as the market rather than our price. Three of six competitor pages examined published no price at all, and two quoted US dollars to families who pay in dirhams.

No approval claims and no invented statistics

IB Gram holds no approval from KHDA, ADEK or SPEA, no Ministry accreditation, no partnership with Cambridge or Pearson, and is not an examination centre. We explain what each body does and link out. You will find no pass-rate percentage or star rating here, because we cannot produce the data behind one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Raas: your questions answered

Can we find an IGCSE home tutor in Al Raas or should we look wider?+

Looking wider inside Umm Al Quwain adds very little, because the constraint is the size of the emirate rather than your position in it. Al Riqqa, Al Salamah and UAQ Marina draw on the same small pool. What does change the outcome is narrowing by specification instead: Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4MA1, with the tier named. That filter finds a tutor who can lift a grade, and because we deliver over live video, where they live stops mattering.

Does IB Gram visit homes anywhere in Umm Al Quwain?+

No. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The market does supply in-home tutors at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour on published 2026 figures, with the drive inside that rate. In Umm Al Quwain the drive is long and the pool willing to make it for a specific board and tier is very small.

Is Core or Extended the right entry for a borderline student?+

Decide it on timed evidence rather than classwork. Core is capped at grade C; Extended reaches A*. A capable student entered for Core is capped for two years, and an unready student entered for Extended can score below their Core potential. Three or four sessions of Extended-standard past-paper questions under proper timing, marked against the official scheme, produce a defensible answer. Schools listen to that kind of evidence because it is the kind they use themselves.

How do I find out which exam board my child is actually doing?+

Look at the statement of entry, or ask the exams officer directly. You are looking for a code: Cambridge 0580, 0625, 0620, 0610, or Pearson 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1. For Cambridge you also want the tier. Those few characters determine which papers your child sits, how the marks are awarded and therefore which tutor is the right one. A provider who does not ask for the code before quoting is telling you something useful.

We moved schools mid-course and the board changed. What now?+

Treat it as a real transition rather than a formality. Cambridge and Pearson differ in paper structure, tiering, calculator rules and how practical skills are assessed, so a student halfway through 0580 arriving at a 4MA1 cohort has specific gaps rather than general weakness. A few focused sessions on the differences, working from the new specification and its past papers, closes most of it. Ask the new school in writing which code and tier they intend to enter your child for.

Which series will my child sit in the UAE?+

For Cambridge, the June series or the November series. The February/March series is offered to India only, so ignore any page quoting a March window to a UAE family. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. Cambridge also allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version and warns that a wrong-zone miss is the candidate's own risk, so ask your school's exams officer which zone the centre sits in.

When do November results come out?+

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE the pattern is January: November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. For the June series, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Those are past dates, cited so you can see the shape rather than relied on for a future series. Pearson publishes and revises provisional timetables, so take exact dates from the live official timetable rather than from any page restating them.

Can my child sit an IGCSE as a private candidate?+

Sometimes, and the subject matters more than the board. A qualification with a school-assessed practical or coursework component cannot always be taken privately, which is why alternative-to-practical papers exist. You would need a centre that accepts external candidates, and the entry deadlines are earlier and less forgiving than a school's internal reminders because nobody chases you. IB Gram is not an exam centre and does not make entries; your school's exams officer is the place to start.

How many IGCSE subjects does the Ministry of Education count?+

Five. The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus either one A-Level subject at E or two AS-Level subjects at E. At least one ranking competitor page states six, which is incorrect. Equivalency is a Ministry process that IB Gram does not perform or guarantee, so verify the current rule on moe.gov.ae before relying on it.

Does a Core-tier grade still count towards equivalency?+

A pass at no less than grade E or grade 3 counts, and a Core-tier pass meets that standard, so the equivalency floor is not a reason to push a student into Extended. The reason to aim for Extended is a degree course asking for higher grades or a specific A-Level subject that needs the Extended content as a foundation. Separating those two questions stops families making the tier decision for the wrong reason, which happens often.

What does an IGCSE tutor charge in this part of the UAE?+

Published UAE market rates read in October 2026 put a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150, and budget online tutoring from around AED 45. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the figure. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 600 to 1,200 for a weekly hour with a qualified tutor. Umm Al Quwain is not separately surveyed; treat the national bands as a guide, and these are market figures rather than ours.

My child knows the content but the marks do not show it. Why?+

Almost always a mark-scheme gap rather than a knowledge gap. Marks go on working shown, command terms answered, units given, significant figures right and diagrams labelled, and a student can understand a topic thoroughly while losing marks on all five. The fix is to mark four or five past papers against the official scheme and sort the losses by cause. The distribution is usually lopsided, and it tells you exactly what the next few sessions should contain.

Is a permit required to tutor privately in the UAE?+

Yes. Private tutoring is regulated through a MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so be sceptical of any specific amount quoted at you.

Who regulates the school my Al Raas child attends in Ajman?+

The federal Ministry of Education, which supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. If the school is in Sharjah instead, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates it and approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods. Dubai has KHDA and Abu Dhabi has ADEK. The practical point is that the regulator follows the school rather than your home address, so fee and curriculum questions go wherever the school sits.

Can one tutor cover Maths and Physics for the same IGCSE student?+

Often yes, because the overlap in algebraic technique and in the style of multi-step problem is substantial, and a single specialist can handle both well at this level. Chemistry and Biology sit further apart than they look. Across two different boards the case weakens quickly, because specification knowledge is the thing being bought. Our default for an exam-year student is one specialist per subject unless the overlap is genuinely strong, and we will say which case applies.

Find the code, then find the tutor

The useful first step for an Al Raas family is not widening the search area. It is opening the statement of entry and reading the four characters that say which exam your child is actually sitting, and for Cambridge, which tier. Send us that code, four marked past papers if you have them, and the hour your child is realistically at a desk after the Ajman or Sharjah run. We will tell you whether a specialist in that exact specification is free in that window, and you can take the free trial lesson before committing to anything.
